Your best Palace XI since promotion.

Forget the injuries/number of appearances/loss of form. Just the best players so far in your opinion you've seen for an XI. Probably got a pool of 70-80 players to choose from five years in.

New Kit Manufacturer?

Has there been any info regarding who we are likely to be getting as our next kit manufacturer? As far as I'm aware this was Macron's last season?

Would love somebody like Hummel or Umbro (new Everton kit is pretty decent) to sort us out.

Fan Pictures and Videos from: Key moments of this (stressful) season !

Just noticed this picture that for some reason I took right at the end of the Brighton match. Look at the tension on all the faces. Sums up for posterity how we all went through the wringer in this season of seasons !!

Any other pictures / vids post here

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

All time Palace team

Back in 2005, the fans picked their 'Centenary XI'
A lot of the names would stay the same but who would people change in light of the last decade or so, especially in light of our longest spell ever in the top flight?

Martyn

Hinshelwood
Coleman
Cannon
Sansom

Salako
Thomas
Gray
Lombardo

Wright
Johnson

Johann, Luka and Jimmy

One of the pleasures on Saturday was watching the quick passing combinations through the middle epitomising a team unit coming together, and being able to, may be for the first time this season. I believe that was our 4th or so unchanged side in a row and it showed.

I Just wanted to point up what a fine unit these three in central midfield have become. They are definable as our main men in that area. No superstars but very effective. It looks flexible, interchangeble, hard-working and very good to watch at times. We can now actually control the tempo. They can all pass, score and put their foot in when needed.
We I think we can get damned as a one man team. Wilf may be seen as the speeding bullet but these guys are now loading the gun. Fully fit and properly organised as we now look we really should not have got in trouble this season which is so frustrating

Zaha for goal of the week

I’m not on twitter but thought I’d highlight zaha’s goal against Leicester is currently 1% behind mkhitaryan’s scuffed shot for goal of the week on sky sports.

Wilfs goal but a great team goal

Figure the might of the bbs could probably tip this his favour as it was clearly the better goal. Votes please chaps

Palace v The Rest 2017/2018

Simon Gleave, Head of Analysis at To view the link you have to Register or Login, who provides the To view the link you have to Register or Login, has pointed out that since losing to Newcastle on October 21 last year, Palace have lost against only Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, Everton and Manchester United.

That's something that may have occurred to some Palace fans, but I admit that it surprised me. It does however show that we should be a top ten side and that after a dreadful start Roy has managed to get the very best from our talented group of players.

Travel Information Stoke City Parking

It always seems to take ages to get away from Stoke, although I guess most of their fans might wait in the stadium as it's their last home game.

Has anyone tried Longton Rugby Club before? It looks like you can park there, eat and drink there and they claim it's quicker to get away from. Would be good to hear whether that's the case from anyone that's tried it before.

I know it’s a bit of a twatty term and it’s been given to no marks like Barbara Windsor and Cheryl Cole but are there any worthwhile candidates?
I was thinking Paul Weller for his body of work but is he a bit obscure for the general public and also the curmudgeon he is, he’d probably hate it!

Humour: Iniesta

Tagged the thread humour but is it so fanciful/far fetched. Definitely leaving Barca at the end of the season, will not join a club that has the possibility of playing Barca so that rules out a whole raft of clubs in Europe. Obviously sky high wages. I'm just dreaming really as outside of Palace he has been my favourite player of this generation

Display for West Brom

Can this be arranged for West Brom?

A big display thanking Roy?

The way he had handled the mess he inherited has been staggering , and the classy way he has handled it all has been wonderful.

I would gladly pay towards that.

Sainsbury and Asda merger

Seems a strange marriage to me . Possibly they are going to merge and cut prices heavily to kill off the growth of the heavily discounting stores Lidl ,Netto Aldi ,Tesco etc

And Kit Symons gone too.

Our best ever performance?

I've been watching Palace since 1983 so missed the previous golden eras of 1969-73 and 1978-80, but I did see the Coppell team including the semi final 4-3 game.

However I'm trying to wrack my brain to think of a better performance by a Palace team than today. These are the days we wait all that time for.

McArthur's Backheel

Oh sod it. It deserves a thread of its own.

What was he thinking of?

:lux::lux::lux::lux:

Our best ever turnaround?

Is Roy’s achievement even better than Pulis, Pards or Sam’s?

Pulis took over the worst squad and we had only four points in late November.
Pards took over a team playing terribly and immediately lost Jedi and Yannick to international competitions.
Big Sam had to undo 18 months of lost confidence.
And Roy - four games, no points, no goals.

Who’s the best?

Do the Normans still run the U.K.?

Do the French still control Britain :)

league position

Crazy to think we are 11th and could still get to 10th is crazy.
.
we could finish where we all would of been happy at the start and the truth of it is even with a good season with no relegation panic best we realistically would get is 8th.

Roll on next season hopefully mistakes will be learnt and we as fans will less heart palpatations.

Curry / beers and motd c'monnn

Our Previous 3 Games - 2013 Playoffs

Maybe no need for a thread but just something I noticed.

Our last three matches have been against the rest of the sides that made up the playoffs when we were promoted (Brighton, Watford and Leicester).

Shame about Brighton though, but I find this quite interesting.

Is wilf the next Thierry Henry?

Have to admit that I was not sold on wilf playing in a central role to begin with but now I think it would be hard to argue that he's better on the wing, I have been converted, I think he really could follow in the footsteps of Henry and Ronaldo and become a dominate player centrally. So wing or central is the question

Luka hands Benteke closure

Not sure I've seen anything quite like that at Palace. A moment of poetic closure. Felt quite emotional because it was so great that our fans were willing Christian on and it's a huge credit to Luka that he had the kindness and I'd say humour to give Christian the chance. The Palace spirit in action. Wonderful.

Roy, take a bow.

That performance was a thing of beauty.

To have RLC, Andros and Wilf working across the front in a pack together: genius.

The skill and confidence that Roy has brought out of these players, after what FDB did you them, it's astonishing.

Players like PVA are now playing with such desire and focus.

Today was wonderful. A game that'll live long in the memory.

And to be able to get closure on that Benteke penalty, it was poetic - football is pretty amazing sometimes.

We are safe (arn't we?)

Surely because Saints and Swansea play each other at least one of them must finish below us?

Or am I just seeing what I want to see?

Alfie Evans

RIP.

So sad.

I wont claim to know all the ins and outs or the legal arguments in this case, but I can only draw on my own experience of having a child with special needs, and encountering the incredible arrogance that many professionals have when they feel their authority and knowledge is questioned by parents.

Instead of embracing and accepting the knowledge the parents bring to the table, and creating an environment where both professional opinion and the parents opinion are respected so everyone works together for a common cause, my own personal experience says that authorities stoop as low as is neccessary in an attempt to silence the voice of the parents, when disagreements exist.

In my own case this primarily involved Education and Social services, but also the health professionals. In the case of my son, I even saw the minutes from a multidisciplinary meeting, that we were never invited to, or even knew of it existence *****il I requested his medical records) that was critical of myself and my ex wife, in a totally imappropriate condescending and arrogant manner. All it did was create suspicion in our minds and to be less trusting of them.

Are their others on here who have had to pit their wits against powerful authority in trying to achieve the best for their child, and wish that their voice is had been both listened to and given the respect it deserved?

I cannot help but feel if the parents in this sad case, had been respected and listened to, it would never have become the high profile case it has.

How much chocolate do you eat

We still have an unopened box of Milk Tray, just over half a box of the same, 3/4 of a giant Toblerone, and an unopened box of Ferrero Rocher all left over from Christmas. Considering that that's all we had (but full boxes of course), I think it's safe to say that chocolate is a wasted gift for us.

My missus can make a Crunchie bar last over a week, just taking a bite every now and again, and if I take a chocolate bar to work, it can sit in my lunch bag for weeks.

Anyone else not bothered about chocolate?

HQ Triva Quiz App

Has anyone else played this?

It's an app that has free live daily trivia quizzes broadcast by presenters in the UK and the US, and you can win cash by answering all 12 (multi-choice) questions correctly alongside / against tens of thousands of other participants.

The numbers whittle down as people drop out because they get a question wrong - and the last few people share the cash pot.

My kids put me onto it the other day and it's pretty cool, although I haven't got very far through in the 2 or 3 times I've played it so far :)

It's already pretty big, people have won anything from tens of thousands of quid to the odd hundred quid here and there... and I think it's going to get bigger!

Cramp

Anyone get it, inner thigh? Started off in one leg, then the other and as i went to get up, both. Almost knock out pain, lasts about 5 mins and there's literally no stretch out for it. I've heard about quinine in tonic water and that does ease it but for some reason it doesn't agree with me. Anyone have a remedy?
cheers.

Suggestion: Kenedy

Seeing as the previous thread got locked (To view the link you have to Register or Login)
I'm dropping this suggestion again.

After seeing how much of a positive impact the pacy left winger /LWB Kenedy has had at Newcastle, at times what seems like he's single-handedly pulled them out of relegation trouble, we really should be closely monitoring his situation.

He's had a successful loan in the grim old North, but surely we can throw our cards on the table and bid for him too. He's got his friends in London, opening up a restaurant with Willian and David Luiz, so might be interested in staying south. We might even be able to get a bulk deal with RLC too, who knows unless we ask.

Liverpool recommendations

Off on a stag weekend in Liverpool this weekend, and I've been tasked with a pub crawl on Saturday evening. Thinking of focusing on the Ropewalks area as there's plenty of bars and pubs, but will have some time to kill in the afternoon. Looking for any recommendations for pubs with a dart board and/or pool table to set up camp in for a couple of hours. If anyone who knows Liverpool or lives up there has any ideas I'd be much appreciated.

Headphones

mercredi 25 avril 2018

I thought I'd try the good ship BBS for some suggestions regarding headphones for a home hi-fi setup.

I'm forced to use headphones as I upset the neighbours, the wife and the children (if they're at home) when I listen to music at the sort of volume I like.

I have a relatively good set of kit but the headphones I'm using don't seem to be doing the business.

They are Sennheiser HD206, which I bought on a price/performance basis but I think the price is better than the performance.

I don't want to spend a fortune and £100ish would be the max before I got the feeling I was being shafted.

I like hard rock music and I like it loud but don't want to become deaf at this stage of my life.

Any ideas?

Amsterdam Palace Vs Leicester

is there anywhere in amsterdam showing the game on saturday. thanks.

Watching CPFC vs Leicester in Bangkok

Sorry if in the wrong section.

Unfortunately, business dictates that I'll miss my first home game of the season this weekend. I know there is a Hong Kong supporters club, does anyone know of one in Bangkok?

If not, any bars which would definitely show the game? I don't mind travel time within reason as long as I get to see the game!

Cheers

Also, possible block B ticket for sale for the game, if none of my mates want it (i'll post a sale thread later in the week)

Suggestion: Leander Dendoncker

Wasn't sure whether to put this as suggestion, discussion or rumour. I read from time to time that we have been and are being linked to this holding midfielder from Anderlecht but I couldn't say that the references look more than guessing and so rumour didn't seem right.

On the thread re Luka and the next window threads it's likely that we will need another DM to sit alonsgide Luka if Cabaye leaves or maybe even if he stays if Jairo isn't going to be selected there which is unclear currently. Anyway this guy could be a candidate. Lots of good noises about him, good age (23) and so on.

Took another look at his highlights reel which by definition has good things on it. Couple of things that struck me:

1 - he looks genuinely two footed, striking it powerfully with either foot whether he is passing or shooting.
2 - he loves a long diagonal :D - BOY does he love a diagonal :D The reel is full of him hitting it to either wing. So Andros and Wilf would need to get on their 'bikes' and ready to run into those spaces because he isn't likely to knock it off short. His power enables him to drop it right on the touchline
3 - Belgian midfield and strikers don't close DMs down and so he is probably used to a lot more time on the ball in those positions than he will get here which is a consideration. Countering that is his touch around the opponent's box looks good.

But all of this is from a reel and so huge caveats needed. I still think you would learn a lot more about a player if the highlights was accompanied with a lowlights reel.

I completely understand why the naval officers have decided to step in and tell the kids that the game is up and they need to stop hunting each other but if Ralph, Simon, Jack and piggy want to tear each other apart while sort of watching over the littleuns it seems a bit harsh just to cull jack or Ralph and piggy? The littleuns will only get an echo chamber.

HR Question

Hi I'm not sure if anyone with a background in HR could possibly answer a question regarding a situation a friend of mine is in...

He currently is the charge hand of a production team, however a new production manager has come in and decided he doesn't think he is charge hand "material" and has now had authorisation to hire a new charge hand to replace him. The new guy starts on Monday, and the current charge hand is being pushed back into just a production role.

I'm not a HR person myself but is there not something in place to prevent your job being given to someone else while your doing the named job, and you are effectively being demoted?

I know this is probably missing detail that would be required but if there's anymore information needed please let me know and I will give as much information as I have.

Thanks

What is going on?

Surely he should be banned completely or he should be allowed to post in all forums now.

Obviously a complete ban should be justified, but what is being achieved by denying him access to all forums ?

It appears like he is being played with like a cat plays with a mouse. Now I know many dont like him but what has he actually done wrong? Expressed views you dont agree with? I dont agree with a lot of what he posts, but this aint North Korea.

Service Charge Vs Council Tax

BBS'ers,

Has anyone had any experience or are currently in a situation where they are paying a Service Charge for their development which includes a range of services such as landscape gardening, refuse collection, management of parks & community center and the street lighting are but a few, but are then also required to pay a large sum of council tax every month covering similar services?

I feel that I am being double charged for services from the Management Company & The Council themselves. That is outside of the ridiculous charges I have from the Management company such as Communal Phone (Never seen it), A Commercial Office Building (Rented by private businesses paying a monthly sum) and Reptile Tunnels (I live in Kent!)

I don't know where I stand with regards to challenging either entity and thought I'd draw on the many years of life experience on the BBS to get some advice on how best to move forward?

POTY Awards Do 2017-18?

I know last year was cancelled for various reasons but do we know/think/want if there will be one this season? Normally we would have heard something by now.

BTW: I'm not sure it is down to whether we are "safe" or not as in previous seaons it has been announced before our safety has been confimed.

Pompeii

I'm looking at organising a surprise trip for my wife and daughter to Pompeii. It appears to be top of their want to go to - places.

Has anybody visited Pompeii while having a beach holiday not too far away? Although they want to go to Pompeii, I know the wife is a bit stressed and would benefit from three or fours days on a good beach in a good hotel but as I mentioned, within easy travel of Pompeii.

Any hints, tips and recommendations would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Latest Relegation Statistics (24 April)

Here you are (as always, thanks to Simon Gleave, Head of Analysis at To view the link you have to Register or Login):

Simon comments: "Very little change from Friday but the results have reduced Palace's chance of relegation to 0.71%"

Suggestion: Ryan Fredericks

Fulham right back, 25 years of age whos out of contract at the end of the season has looked really impressive for them. He's quick and very good on the ball. If Joel Ward leaves following the end of his contract it would be a good option to look at. Being more similar to Van Aanholt and Wan Bissaka it would provide a better balance for the squad.

Oldham 1993

There has, as usual, been much talk of the 'Oldham' factor in GPD over the last few weeks. It appears that we should now be safe from the drop, but in 1993 we all felt much the same, only to suffer a shock relegation after Oldham pulled off three highly unlikely wins to end their Season.

Most people remember the five point gap, but on the Saturday evening, after Palace win against Ipswich, the gap was 8 points, with Oldham due to play the following day.

Palace looked to have pulled well clear of relegation after an excellent 4-1 win against Middlesbrough on 12 April and that 3-1 victory against Ipswich on 1 May. In addition, we managed a point away to Leeds on 17 April. A reverse against the champions Manchester United (a narrow 0-1 defeat at home on 21 April) didn't do much to affect the optimism.

So, following our win over Ipswich (as has been frequently mentioned) there was a lap of honour. This looked safe as we then had a massive EIGHT point lead over Oldham (and a better goal difference) - although they had a game in hand (albeit against Aston Villa away, who were second in the table). This is how the table looked that evening, after the Ipswich match and the premature celebrations:

Middlesbrough only had one game left, so they couldn't catch us. Oldham had to play Aston Villa away, and Liverpool and Southampton at home. Palace had to play Manchester City and Arsenal (both away).

Oldham had to win all three to survive (highly unlikely) and rely upon Palace picking up no more than a single point.

So, what happened?

Oldham did win all three: Aston Villa (A) 1–0, Liverpool (H) 3–2, and Southampton (H) 4–3. Palace managed a draw against City and lost the final match against Arsenal (with Ian Wright scoring against his former Club to hammer the metaphorical nail into the Palace coffin).

So, what are your memories of that awful Season end? I flew to New York on the Sunday morning, confident that Palace would be safe. I didn't find out that Oldham had beaten Villa that day until three days later, when I saw the result buried in a US newspaper. Still, we had a five point lead, with both having two to play. I couldn't find the midweek results anywhere, and only discovered the awful truth when I arrived home on 10 May 1993.

Here is the final table:

Sakho and Tomkins

lundi 23 avril 2018

Deserves its own thread 12 games 7 wins 5 draws 0 losses. With 18 goals scored only 9 conceeded plus that includes 6 clean sheets.I am amazed but Tomkins and Mama are clearly superb together add the improvement of PVA and the huge potential of Wan Bissaka plus Luka in front that Spine is great. If only we had forwards who would put away their chances and they were fit all year where could we have been?

PC case fan gone mad

The PC case fan has decided to sound like a helicopter. Until yesterday the noise was barely noticeable, but now it starts up at full volume and stays there as long as the machine in turned on.

2. BIOS settings all OK
3. All cables seated correctly

Any advice gratefully received.

Vicarage Road

Hoping to avoid the research if a good soul could help out off the top of their head, but it's now seven unbeaten visits to Watford since a Championship defeat in February 2009. Is this our record run at an away ground? (Though not sure where to place a yardstick for minimum visits etc)

Congratulations William and Kate

A new Prince. Congratulations.

Chris Kavanagh

Only reffed 14 matches this season? Who even is he? Clattenburg's son?

I never want to see this weak, easily-influenced, spineless, useless prick ref a Palace game ever again.

He looks like a 12 year old. Would be out of his depth reffing my six-a-side Wednesday games.

Cost us a win on Saturday, and someone pointed out that he was (probably) the ref who overturned his own penalty when we beat Wednesday 2-1.

Rakip - why did we sign him?

So, we signed this young player on loan until the end of the season. We haven’t played him and probably won’t.

Why on earth did we sign this player? I presume there was a loan fee involved.

West Brom (H) Sunday 13th May 3pm

dimanche 22 avril 2018

Additional tickets have been put on sale in AW block U for this match. About 150 currently available.

Retain/Release List

The following players are out of contract on the 30th June 2018. So, who do you re-sign and who do you release?

Bakary Sako
Chung-Yong Lee
Damien Delaney
Diego Cavalieri
James McArthur
Joel Ward
Julian Speroni
Martin Kelly
Wayne Hennessey
Yohan Cabaye

For me:

Re-sign: Sako, McArthur, Ward, Kelly, Hennessey and Cabaye

Release: Lee, Delaney (give him a new role), Cavalieri, Speroni (give him a new role)

I'd look to sign two new keepers one to be in the first XI (with WH on the bench) and a youngster to bring through in the cups etc.

Wilf Zaha - on goals on Sunday

Wilf is a guest on goals on Sunday at 11:00 am today , should be an interesting watch

Suggested Team and Formation For: Leicester City

Hennessey
AWB Tomkins Sakho PvA
Milivojevic
Cabaye McArthur
Townsend Sorloth Zaha

or

Hennessey
AWB Tomkins Sakho PvA
Milivojevic Cabaye
Townsend RLC Zaha
Sorloth

Cabaye was holding his calf in the second half, so hope he's okay for next week. We now have some options up front, and the fact Puel won't be able to plan too much for our forward line is in our favour. Really want to see players in their best positions now though.

4-4-2 and Zaha up front, or Zaha on the wing?

I have long argued that Zaha should be played further forward, and that he was wasted out wide on the wing, and with defensive responsibilities. I believe he is far too good for that, as he has the ability to really hurt teams when in the attacking third. I was shouted down.

However, starting with Big Sam we have now had 3 successive managers who have looked to play him up front: Big Sam started it and to good effect, with the wins away at Bournemouth and Chelsea that spring to mind. FdB has been clear that Zaha up front was always his plan, and now Roy seems to have decided that Zaha up front for the majority of games is a good idea. We have seen his end product improve month on month and he scored his first Premier League double last weekend. So, I'm now interested to know, would people still like him to play on the wing, or are people now converted to the idea of him up front?

Crowdfunding

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience of using crowdfunding to raise funds for a commercial business as opposed to community or charity. Basically, I need to raise some funds to rebuild my smokery business.
I started up a smokery business in Stock, Essex ‘The Old Barn Smokery’ in November 16.

Its been a very up and down 18 months to be honest not least because September last year we had to close for a while whilst I had some major brain surgery so the momentum we had built up over the previous 9 months stalled a little. Its taken a lot longer than I expected to get back to full health and so only this year have I been back to normal and things were starting to pick up nicely. That is until last week on Friday 13th of all days!! we had a serious fire due to an electrical fault which totally destroyed the smokery building, equipment, stock etc.

On the plus side we have a very good reputation for the quality of our products and even won a 3-star Great Taste Award last year and were in the top 3 products for East Anglia with our Duckstrami. This opened a few doors and were just about to go into a project with one of the higher end supermarkets.
As we have invested a significant sum over the past 18 months starting up, supporting and expanding the business but unfortunately, I don’t have the £25k to £30k it will take to replace equipment. Turns out the contents insurance only covers the landlords’ contents and not mine. That will teach me to read the small print ☹

So any advice on crowdfunding would be very welcome ..I’m also exploring possible grant etc.

Strange Stats on Football Managers with strong Palace connections

Did you know that in the last 3 seasons in the top 5 English football Divisions, including the Prem, there have been twelve managers with a strong connection to CPFC - as a former Palace player, manager or equally strong connection.

Of these 12 Palace 'Old Boys', no less than SIX have been sacked, in the last 3 seasons.

The List of Shame is (most recent sacking only):

Pardew, Alan - player & manager - WBA
Symons, Kit - player & manager - Fulham
Dickov, Paul - player - Doncaster Rovers
Derry, Shaun - player (Club Captain) - Cambridge Utd
Goldberg, Mark - owner - Bromley
Harrison, Craig - player - Hartlepool

The Survivors are:

Allardyce, Samuel - manager - Everton
Bruce, Steven - manager - Aston Villa
Warnock, Neil - manager - Cardiff City
Pulis, Anthony - manager - Middlesbrough
Holloway, Ian - manager - QPR
Fullarton, Jamie - player - FC Halifax Town

We are the only club in the Football League who have an owner who has become a manager and then also been fired.

We are amongst only a handful of clubs in the last 3 seasons who have had players who have also been managers of CPFC - two in fact: Pardew and Symons.

In total, 4 former Palace players have been managers in the Top 5 Divisions of the Football League in the last 3 seasons.

There are of course dozens of others below manager level, and/or who have retired, and I do not want to ignore their excellent service.

I can't seem to find a thread on this when I search so apologies if there is one (it seems like there should be).

Latest Relegation Statistics

Thanks as always to Simon Gleave, Head of Analysis at To view the link you have to Register or Login:

Simon comments:

"West Bromwich Albion's win at Old Trafford improved their chances of survival from below 0.05% to 0.2%.

Southampton's defeat by Chelsea combined with Huddersfield's win puts the Saints into a very bad position.

Huddersfield edging towards safety which would be one of the most remarkable survival stories given that they were the worst team in our database (back to 2007) to be promoted.

Relegation chance for both Swansea City and Brighton & Hove Albion has increased although still remote for both.

Palace now the outsiders of the remaining realistic candidates to go down. One win from the last four matches should suffice for Palace.

Capitalism and Democracy

I’ve just looked at figures and 40% of the global population are designated as free, 25% partly free and 35% as not free.

I’d take issue with the USA being free given elections cannot be won without billions of pounds but that aside, to those who support capitalism is this as good as it gets?

There’s been barely any improvements in 25 years.

This isn’t about going off on one about how other systems are worse, is this, along with wars, mass inequality and huge amounts of poverty the pinnacle of human development?

Sakho

Just looking at highlights again what was he doing in last minute when he went all gung-ho and left Murray to try head the ball that was clearly Tompkins to go for. If he stays Murray isn't left alone.

As much as I like him he does make me nervous at times.

How great to have the positive vibe back on the BBS after so much negativity this season.

Long may it continue

Keep the faith.

We are staying up

COYP

Where will we finish at the end of the season?

Left out the mathematically impossible places, as much as some people would’ve liked to have voted 1st. I’m going for an optimistic 12th.

Zaha- Best Palace Player Ever?

samedi 14 avril 2018

Have been thinking this for a while now, Zaha already has legend status amongst pretty much every Palace fan but after yesterday and thinking of his contributions over his Palace career, is it now time to start considering him as the best player we have ever had?

The brace yesterday I think sealed the deal for me. He is immense, contribution wise overall for me he is our best ever .

Where did you celebrate today's win?

I ended up at a 50th birthday bash in one of the suites at New Road (Worcestershire CCC). It's fair to say that I am now completely toasted. :D

This is the view across the ground and river towards the cathedral. There are worse places to sup beer!

When will Londoner post again?

If someone could add a poll that would be great.

What a sad wanker :D

Are Brighton going down?

They have a very tough run in

zaha transfer value

Really don't want him to ever leave us, But feel we will get tested this summer how much do you think we will get offered for him in todays crazy world?

Back post

Are we allergic to the back post?

I can't see any other reason as to why we seem to be unable to mark it from corners.

Kane, against Bournemouth and again today from a corner we just have noone stationed there and goals go in.

Nsc blaming Murray

Christ lucky benteke doesn't play for them.

Some are saying Murray could cost them with his misses.

AGENT MURRAY😂

The third shirt - sizing

I see that the white third strip is only available in 'Players Fit' and EU sizing. For those who've bought it, how do the EU sizes compare to UK ones?

Thanks in advance. :)

Atmosphere v Brighton

I've been critical of the atmosphere and general mood at Selhurst this season but today was immense.

Couldn't believe what I walked into when I got into the Holmesdale entrance, the HF had got the party started early in the Lower concourse, great seeing smiles on everyones faces and at one point it felt like a carnival with the drum booming and chants ringing round in the concourse where its normally very quiet. Felt like this then lead on to help to kick start a positive atmosphere in the stands right from the start with all the flags going, no nerves at all... the players seemed to really feed off it! The chants were going all round the stadium, not seen it like that in a good while. Looking across at Blocks B and C today got me thinking there really is no support like it in the Premier, magic scenes :p

Luka's Improvement

When he signed last year and provided an immediate impact, i thought he was slightly overrated by a lot of palace fans. His defensive contribution was immense, but i thought his lack of mobility/limited passing meant he was pretty much at our level - and much of the hype was simply down to us playing with out any defensive mid at all.

However this year he has continued to be a complete beast defensively, but his passing/creativity/technique seems to have come on a long way! Perhaps i underrated this aspect of his game last year, but he has fantastic vision and a real ability to pick a pass. For the first time since promotion we have a player who can pick out a runner from deep - much like we thought cabaye would.

An absolute gem of a player, and for me its a toss up between him and tomkins for POTY.

Just wanted to rant about how much i love luka really. Pretty much Jedinak with +50% technically ability.

Lucky Hat Lost!!!!

Fellow BBSers I’d be very grateful if anyone found a hat somewhere between block F Holmesdale lower and Selhurst station if they could PM me.
It’s not a nice hat, it’s not expensive but has sentimental Palace value beyond all measure. It’s also magic and has been responsible for many an important Palace goal, perhaps most notably it help Darren Powell score in the last minute away at Sunderland in play off semi final.

It is wool, red and blue all over and has ear flaps and a weird tassly bit on top.
Looks a bit like the one in the pic but red and blue flex all over
Any help appreciated and it’s worth a few pints for anyone that returns it.

Anyone seen Spencer (Londoner) on here today?

He's normally pretty active on our forums?

can I upgrade computer parts

Hi all, as the title says I have a HP computer about 5 years old and it struggles to play Total war games on steam (Rome II etc)
The graphics are awful and the map is half blanked out, it can cope with Rome Tw and Med TW but not much newer
As a computer ignoramus what should I do ?

Predict what you will say when the final whistle blows

As per the title, what do you think you will utter to the person who sits next to you at full time today?

I know the Holmesdale is open from 9am(!) but was hoping to go to the Clifton. Seen someone on Facebook say that it's closed?

ZAHA ON BRIGHTON

[From Today's GuardianB][/B]
[Zaha says about Brighton:
" I just want to play the game. I want to beat them and then they can be quiet. I don't feel like they're better than us, so we just need to get the game over and done with, beat them and then they can just go back to wherever they came from.
I get so much stick from them... I'm looking forward to the game"

Sure we'd agree - but what chance of a card if he is so hyped up ?B][/B]

Tourettes Syndrome

Does anyone have any experience of this ?

I used to know a guy who was badly afflicted and would regularly come out with varied unprovoked obscenities. I thought it was hilarious.

Over the last few years, I have found myself involuntarily loudly shouting "f*ck off" whenever something reminds me of any embarrassing situation or unpleasant experience from my past.

I thought it quite harmless as it only happens at home, although the neighbours must have heard it sometimes.

But today I was walking through the Grafton Shopping Centre in Cambridge, when a particular shop woke up a memory from years ago. And out it came, loud and clear !

It was quite busy and I was totally mortified and just walked faster avoiding looking anyone in the eye. A bit worried now.

Pre Season Tour 2018

Following on from last seasons tour to HK has there been any news on where we’ll be going this year?

I wish they could announce these 6 months in advance so that we could plan flights etc. Saying that I’m sure the destination largely depends on which division we are in.

Luka as CM?

He started out as an attacking midfielder, is the only midfielder we have liable to make a truly incisive pass, has the best technical ability proven by his taking the best set pieces, scores from the edge of the box and we have Reidewald who can play DM cover. If we stay up and struggle to find a box-to-box CM who can play in the striker directly ( which we've never had and have missed more than anything else in this team since promotion ) is it time to consider buying a specialist defensive mid and advancing Luka?

Wearing Football Shirts to Matches

When did it start? My guess 1987.

Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics

lundi 9 avril 2018

First of all, here is the up to date relegation chances table provided by Simon Gleave, head of analysis at Gracenote.

Simon has also produced this fascinating table, which shows how Palace have massively underperformed this Season:

Simon offers this:

"Here is the list [of Palace results against expectation] so you can judge for yourself. Anything not on this list produced the expected result given the chances for both sides. [Despite some possible errors] overall the -17 is a good estimate in my opinion. Palace's [underperformance] really does look like bad luck.

One other thing on this. Palace's -17 points is ENTIRELY due to the attack which has scored 19 goals fewer than we would expect based on the chances.

Huddersfield (H) Lost, should have won -3
Swansea (H) Lost, should have drawn -4
Burnley (A) Lost, should have won -7
Southampton (H) Lost, should have drawn -8
CHELSEA (H) WON, SHOULD HAVE DRAWN -6
Newcastle (A) Lost, should have drawn -7
West Ham (H) Drawn, should have won -9
Tottenham (A) Lost, should have drawn -10
WEST BROM (A) DRAWN, SHOULD HAVE LOST -9
Bournemouth (H) Drawn, should have won -11
Swansea (A) Drawn, should have won -13
Man City (H) Drawn, should have won -15
WEST HAM (A) DRAWN, SHOULD HAVE LOST -14
Newcastle (H) Drawn, should have won -16
Everton (A) Lost, should have drawn -17
Liverpool (H) Lost, should have drawn -18
Bournemouth (A) DRAWN, SHOULD HAVE LOST -17
"

Before anyone feels inclined to launch into Benteke with a predictable torrent of abuse, it is instructive to consider this from Simon:

"Benteke, Zaha, McArthur, Tomkins, Dann, Cabaye, Schlupp and Puncheon all have fewer goals than we would expect given the opportunities they have had. While there will be some difference in finishing ability between recognised strikers and the rest, the data suggests that this is very small indeed (primarily because you don't often have your lumbering centre back running through one-on-one with the keeper or your 5' 6" midfielder trying to get on the end of crosses). Basically players get the sorts of chances they always get and thus score over the long term as many as our data suggests they will."

Simon suggests that Benteke's lack of goals is temporary, and that we should be patient. He says:

"At Liverpool in 2015/2016 he should have scored 10 goals and got 9.

At Palace last season, he should have had 16 but scored 15.

At Palace this season, he should have scored 11 or 12 but has 2.

I've seen this pattern before, albeit perhaps not so extreme and [goal scorers] always bounce back. Selling him would mean:

a) Getting less than he is really worth

b) Probably losing a top quality striker
"

Dealing with BT moving into a new build

Ah this has got to be one of the most frustrating processes I have ever gone through!!

I made an order for my internet on 26th January - I have Fibre to the Premises but this has proven to be nothing but lie after lie and push back after push back! It's meant to be superfast 300mb but trying to get this service up and running is killing me, I've actually lost my temper twice already which isn't a small feat as I'm a very patient individual!

I am keen to find out if any fellow BBS'ers have had such an excruciating time getting a phone line and Fibre connection in a new build property? If so, how did this get rectified!? They haven't even confirmed my account number yet so cannot log onto the openzones/hotspots provided by the other BT Hub's in the building!!

Happy Birthday James and Waddon Eagle

To our late lamented moderator and to someone who seems to have erased his birthday from the list (but I haven't fogotten)

Hope you both have good ones.

Useful Telephone numbers

Having read through quite a lot of the threads here, I felt I had to post some useful telephone numbers for some of our more troubled supporters:-

AA - 0800 9177 650
Drugs helpline - 0845 1200 660
Samaritans - 116 123

I'm sure some may need more than one of these numbers!!;)

Palace vs weeds

Now we’re in the build up to this game I’ve started reminiscing about past encounters . I’ve got loads of memories ,good and bad , but on the whole we’ve had the upper hand .
The 5-0 one was a classic , “ 5 nill and you can’t **** off “ plus the last minute winner at the running track was pretty enjoyable.
But what are your memories of games in the past ?

Bert Head- A Manager with ideas.

England had won the World Cup. Bert Head was new Palace manager. The article attached November 1966 to me makes interesting reading. What do you think ?

Our defending at the back post (CORNERS)

dimanche 8 avril 2018

I'm thoroughly disgusted. We don't just look shaky on corners we look wide open. I've been going on for ages about us putting someone on the back post, but now we don't even have anyone defending the back post! We have a lot who can't win many headers (PVA, Cabaye, Zaha, Townsend) and that is compounded with the injury to Benteke. Sakho is not very commanding for a centre back, and the keeper flaps around occasionally.

I just can't believe how poor we are set up when defending corners. I know we would still concede from corners with a guy on the back post, and also that it was an individual error from AWB for their equaliser on this occasion, but with such a well-drilled and organised team under Roy I'm amazed that we look so shocking defending corners. Please correct me if I'm imagining what appears to be the side's major flaw. Hope it can be rectified for the game against Br*ghton because they will destroy us from corners with Murray, Ulloa and their big centre backs if we continue as we are.

Jordan Mutch - worst signing ever?

I can’t think of a worse signing given he was £5 million?

Relegation . Could it actually make us better equipped for the next trip back ?

samedi 7 avril 2018

No hiding the fact some major cock ups backstage have put us in this mess , and lessons will no doubt be learned from them. So if we drop would it be that bad ? If we made it back would we be better equipped and a tad more ready to kick on instead of the annual relegation fight that we have had every season since 2013 ? Five seasons of this would suggest we wouldn't, but are we better prepared now or forever destined to be a yo yo club with the odd flash of glory .

hurtfulness/name calling and hypocrisy

thoughts

subs and the reason chaps like myself shout so loudly

during the Iceland game in the 2016 EC we were 1-2 down to a team that had outdone us by rolling their sleeves up and adopting the very work ethic that had been the cornerstone for success for British clubs and the national team in many years( the 1966 WC) especially with things like a long throw, generally getting stuck in and using a direct style of football, enter Marcus Rashford, he simply needed to be introduced at half time in that game, we could have played all night long with that starting 11 and I dont think we would have scored, Rooney and Sterling were so bereft of form they resembled no more than Sunday morning pub players, 99.9% of the fans in the stadium that night must have screamed themselves hoarse at the idiot in charge to bring Rashford on, likewise I'm sure the many millions at home would have being screaming at their TV sets similarly to bring Rashford on, yet what did the idiot do? he brought Rashford on in injury time? why doesn't the clown ever listen? why do mere mortals like me have to suffer unimaginable abuse from fellow posters just because I vent a subjective opinion that might dare disagree with the status quo? why are we seeing history repeating itself at the club of my birth when I thought in all honesty there wouldn't have been a club in the world that would have touched the clown with a barge pole after the 2016 EC, I just understand it, I'm sorry is it a lot to ask? I expect and demand so much better

Not.

Good riddance.

Zaha player manager

Todays goal shows Wilf's worth once more and simply poses the question again what would we do without him?!

Jack Walker once faced this question with Alan Shearer at Blackburn and took drastic action, offered him a player manager role. It got me thinking would it really be that crazy?! If anyone knows the Palace DNA of a Palace team it's Wilf and we could have some experience alongside him, personally I'd bring back Rambo Ramage as his assistant and a coach like Sammy Lee.

This would really show our commitment to Wilf, and with Roy not going to go on forever this could secure our managers position for the next 40 years.

Wilfried Zaha's rednblue army!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

Player Ratings And Reviews: Bournemouth vs Palace - 2-2

No one seems to have done this so thought I would give it a go, apologies if I screw up. Maybe a nice mod will tidy it up if I have fluffed it

Luka Milivojević

Best centre mid I’ve seen at Palace. Been going since 2000 and I’ve not seen better. Class. I’d be worried about losing him in the summer. Proper captain

defending corners

We are not good at all

It's not a strong point of our current defenders

For a start you need leadership defending a corner like a jedinak

Also someone defending the back post

Too many Scottish football teams and their top division is shit!

Watching Sky TV waiting for the league tables.... But you have to wait for all the crappy little jock results!
This is just a throwback to the days when people needed them for playing the pools betting,
Tiny teams with no gates why the hell does it matter with all their divisions?
Plus the English championship should be second on the BBC website rather than the Scottish premiership as it's a better division with more fans watching only twats at the BBC would put it second!
Welling and Bromley are probably bigger than most of the Scottish teams!

Conceding late goals... the Ray Lewington effect?

I remember us conceded late in game very often in the Coppell + Lewington days. I see a pattern.

Baffling. Shut up shop. Bring on Jairo.....!
