Strange Stats on Football Managers with strong Palace connections

mardi 17 avril 2018

Did you know that in the last 3 seasons in the top 5 English football Divisions, including the Prem, there have been twelve managers with a strong connection to CPFC - as a former Palace player, manager or equally strong connection.

Of these 12 Palace 'Old Boys', no less than SIX have been sacked, in the last 3 seasons.

The List of Shame is (most recent sacking only):

Pardew, Alan - player & manager - WBA
Symons, Kit - player & manager - Fulham
Dickov, Paul - player - Doncaster Rovers
Derry, Shaun - player (Club Captain) - Cambridge Utd
Goldberg, Mark - owner - Bromley
Harrison, Craig - player - Hartlepool

The Survivors are:

Allardyce, Samuel - manager - Everton
Bruce, Steven - manager - Aston Villa
Warnock, Neil - manager - Cardiff City
Pulis, Anthony - manager - Middlesbrough
Holloway, Ian - manager - QPR
Fullarton, Jamie - player - FC Halifax Town

We are the only club in the Football League who have an owner who has become a manager and then also been fired.

We are amongst only a handful of clubs in the last 3 seasons who have had players who have also been managers of CPFC - two in fact: Pardew and Symons.

In total, 4 former Palace players have been managers in the Top 5 Divisions of the Football League in the last 3 seasons.

There are of course dozens of others below manager level, and/or who have retired, and I do not want to ignore their excellent service.
