Rumour: Giovani Lo Celso (Loan)

lundi 31 juillet 2017

Apparently looked at this guy, don't know if we have approached source came from someone from another London club.. basically they have been interested loan I believe. Thought no harm to share here.

Personally seen a lot of PSG but never him. Young talented Argentine playmaker from what I been told/see online.

Anyone know him or more?

FA Cup 2018

It all kicks off this weekend, the extra-preliminary round of the 2018 FA Cup. I'll be watching my stepson playing for Horley Town v Raynes Park Vale. Loads of sides involved this weekend, basically all entered sides below Ryman League level.

Suggestion: Oliver Giroud

as a backup for Benteke?

*grabs tin hat*

Discussion: Here we are in August with no new keeper signed

Very poor by the club in my view. It's clear we need a new number one, and have done since January frankly. Goalkeeper especially is a position that needs time to bed in, get used to his defence, and vice versa, as well as settled into the squad in general. Even if we sign one before the start of the season (which i'm starting to doubt frankly), we'll have missed that valuable settling in time.

Sorry to sound negative, but i really think this is pretty shabby by the club.

SKY

Probably AATOT, and I apologise if so.

Went to sign up to SKY TV, and they want £52.50 (discounted!) a month so I can watch Game of Thrones, cycling on Eurosport, box sets, football, F1 & boxing. Anyone else slightly astonished it is so much? Feel I can't justify that expenditure every month. Will just sign up for NOW TV to get GoT, and be satisfied with Netflix as well.

I have BT sports app free though for 2 years, I will just have to get by with that.

Diana Tapes , Let them air or not ?

I say yes , She has been dead for 20yrs from next month and she wanted the world to hear the Tapes , Fed up with royalty getting special treatment , I am not a fan of Diana as she used the paparazzi when she wanted whilst complaining about her privacy being infringed by them .

Slide from back in the early 80's

Dusted off some old slides to find I had taken this shot down at the Palace early 80's, my guess is 82/83 season. No info as to who it's against although it looks early season to me and is that Mabbutt taking a shot? Maybe it's Tommy Langley? not sure at all. Got some more from our 3-1 defeat to Forest at the end of the 81 season.

Anyway just thought it might interest somebody.. maybe not, if there is interest then i'll post up the pictures from the Forest game.

Programme Booklet

Anyway who purchases the above been delivered yet?

Palm Springs, California

Anyone on here ever been? I'm going in September.

What is there to do in the afternoons and evenings? I'll be playing golf in the morning.

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

Free The Nipple

So there is a growing movement ( Free The Nipple ) around the Western world for women to be afforded the same freedom to expose their breastages as us menfolk.

So what do the ladies and gentlemen of the good ship BBS think? Are there sensible reasons why women should cover up or is it a form of oppression? Do women on this forum wish they could expose some extra skin on an uncomfortably hot day and are stopped only by law and social convention? Or do women quite frankly not want to see other women's boobs, in much the same vein as those that object to breast feeding?

Are there even men that would object? Would we feel uncomfortable?

If this is ever allowed, do the women who strip have the right to expect men not to look? Or other women?

Is it right breasts are sexualized? Given that they currently are, is it realistic for women who would be granted the legal power to bare them to expect no one else to be affected? Or is this another example of the individual expecting society to adjust to accommodate individual desires?

Will it incite more molestation or even rape? If so, should baring female breasts continue to be banned, even if to stop the misbehaviour of men?

If female breasts can be shown publicly, where should this new attitude stop? Is public nudity something that should be allowed? Is it a question of us all adjusting, in the same way society adjusted to short skirts?

What would men and women alike think of women who wanted to go topless? Is anyone right to even judge someone on that metric?

In short, if we were truly a civilized society, which way should the pendulum swing on this?

Housing benefit advice needed

samedi 29 juillet 2017

Dear all

A mate of mine has recently taken seriously ill.

He earns modest wages and doesn't get sick pay.

He is now in ICU for the foreseeable future and will not be able to keep up with his rent.

Does anyone have any idea how I can start a claim for him, I can maybe get him to sign some forms but for most of the time he's "out of it"

Would really appreciate any advice/help.

Live Com and Updates: FC Metz (A) - 29th July 2pm BST

Stan Bowles

Not one usually to big up another team's ex player - but sadly he now suffers from Alzheimer's. He was a fantastic player - great skills and a bit of a showman and would be worth a fortune on today's market.

Hope they raise plenty - even though Bournemouth are the opposition [emoji4]

Suggestion: Troy Deeney

Looks like he's had a bust up at Watford, would be perfect for us.

Things you've done

That would make you berate a friend or loved one if they did it.

For example this morning getting to an appointment to change your tyres via a popular online service and realising you haven't physically checked the tyre size and as a result ordered the incorrect ones.

Unpopular Palace opinions

vendredi 28 juillet 2017

This is a safe space for those opinions you're usually hesitant to say on here (or in real life, whatever). No judging ITT unless you say something completely stupid like Wilf ain't all that or you like Manchester United...

Mine is as fans we need to accept that as we progress as a club the likes of McArthur, as good as he's been in the past, don't really cut it these days and we shouldn't make a big fuss if they are sold.

Worst Away Game You've Ever Been To.

It should be Anfield and the 9 nil (still got the ticket stub) but I'd have to say Barnsley on a Sunday (I think it was a Sunday).
The loudest speakers you could imagine blaring out 'waiting for a star to fall' by some wankers.
Taking the piss out of the ref before the match, George Courtney iirc.
And losing 1-0.
There are so many others probably worse than these no doubt.
Yours?

Suggestion: Arnaud Souquet

Very underrated RB who had a good season for Nice last year. Nice don't seem keen on keeping him as they've brought in a new RB. He'd be relatively cheap.

Palace Related Things That You...

....wouldn't do for any amount of money.

I was working with the usual glory hunters this week and I was asked if I would have a Brighton badge tattooed on my forehead for a million pounds.
My response was that there was no amount of money that could make me suffer that shit. Ever.

Would you?

The non politically correct behaviour of football fans of differing clubs

Seeing that there seems opinion that we'll get hammered when the inevitable 5-15,000 of our fans sing the infamous, "We scored 2 they scored none....", what examples do people have, as other clubs behaviour that will put what we do in perspective and inevitably ignored as football culture.

I think Spurs and singing Yids, as described by sections of the Jewish community as racist and deeply offensive.

Millwall making light of the death of a Leeds fan at the hands of Galatasary (possibly the worst one when celebrating murder in my opinion.)

Millwall singing to us, "you take it up the arse", to counter our wooooaahh.

Millwall singing, "for east London is like Bengal".

Harold Shipman for killing Mancs, I think Leeds sung this.

Man Utd singing about the deaths at Hillsborough against Liverpool - another super nasty one.

Someone pointed out that some journalist will look to point out what we do but in reality it'll blow over as one day news.

Any other examples of where the media aren't throwing a hissy fit where the behaviour is obviously worse than ours.

Counter-Homophobia Chant

I think we have a major problem on ours hands, this is definitely going to blow up this season. I know there is two threads about homophobia already but I am thinking there needs to be a counter-chant for the supporters that when hearing any homophobic chant (most likey against Brighton) we have a way to distance that section of our club from ourselves, and shout it down before it spreads and then ends up in national and international press.

All I can think of is boo-ing, or 'Shut up.....'

Any ideas? I know I will atleast boo if I hear anything.

Im also ready for any of you saying Im a PC Bedwetter....

Gareth Thomas Documentary – Alfie v Homophobia

jeudi 27 juillet 2017

Dear all,

I have just seen the documentary made from Gareth Thomas Alfie v Homophobia , it was on BBC Wales tonight, and will be on the 6th of August 2017 on BBC TWO

Can I please urge all Crystal Palace fans to watch this.

As a gay man, I am proud to support Crystal Palace, but on the programme the HOL site was shown and at least 5 messages. The language and content was disgusting and must be removed

To ensure there are no similar messages can this site please can all messages be reviewed. If there are any abusive messages can these be deleted and that these members are banned.

Chelsea's Ridiculous Loan Policy

Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas has signed a new four-year deal with the Premier League club and rejoined Championship side Fulham on a season-long loan deal.
Kalas made 40 appearances on loan at Craven Cottage last season.
The 24-year-old, capped seven times by the Czech Republic, has featured only four times for Chelsea since signing from Sigma Olomouc in July 2010.

So, he has been with Chelsea for SEVEN years, during which time he has made all of four appearances. And based on that "success", they have now given him a further four-year contract.......before immediately loaning him out again.

Why?

Quote:

Crystal Palace have eyed a move for Benfica wide man Andre Carillo, according to reports.

The Peru international, 26, was previously with Sporting Lisbon where he played more than 100 times in five seasons in all competitions.

Carillo has a wealth of Champions League experience and would certainly add to Palace's attacking flair out wide.

It has been reported that Newcastle United, Stoke City and Huddersfield Town are also keen on Carillo, who only joined Benfica last year.
There is some talk of a cut-price £6m deal but the sources saying it are not great, so best wait and see really

The faggot thread.

I love faggots, faggots are great. Nothing I like more on a chilly evening than to tuck into a plate of hot steaming faggots. Now I always presumed that Mr Brains faggots were the best faggots available, especially after I tried Icelands own brand faggots.

They were a gristly faggot and the faggot sauce they were in was very insipid and not worthy of a faggot sauce whatsoever. Apparently there are other brands of faggots available, so are there any faggot officionados on the BBS? I can't believe i am the only enjoyer of faggots on here....so come on people, get recommending faggots, to help in my search for the perfect faggot.

Liverpool train tickets 4 adult, 2 kids (with railcard)

I booked the train when they were cheap for 4 adults and 2 kids, using Family & Friends Railcard. Unfortunately family holiday now means we can't go, so I now need to sell.

11:07 - London Euston 13:19 - Liverpool Lime Street TRAIN (Virgin Trains)
17:47 - Liverpool Lime Street 19:59 - London Euston TRAIN (Virgin Trains)

Adult returns are £29.70 and kids are £8.55.

Obviously you'd need to have a family and friends railcard and to travel with at least one kid.

Anyone interested please PM me

Thanks

Looking for a gardener

Are there any gardeners on the BBS, or has anyone got a recommendation for one? Looking for someone to maintain our communal garden in Beckenham on an ongoing basis, I think the previous gardeners came round fortnightly.

No show bastards - billing them back for my time

Will keep this short and sweet.

I waited in for 4 hours for a no show appointment for water meter repairs. Call the company and engineer was diverted to another job without this being communicated to me so I wasted an entire morning.

They have offered me £20 compensation.

I want to bill 4 hours of my equivalent hourly rate approx £120.

Do I legally have a leg to stand on?

Football combination Result

Does anyone know where there are statistics for the Football combination results....in particular 1957-8 and Palace Brighton from November?

Travelling to Uzbekistan - advice needed

I'm travelling to Uzbekistan in March and am looking to get visas etc sorted early doors so as to avoid any aggro further down the line. Can anyone that's been help with the following:

Rather than sending my passport to the Uzbek embassy via post (the embassy website says this is a requirement) I'd rather take all forms and documentation up together on one day and get everything processed on the same day if possible. Is this possible and is it the better way to get the visa sorted? I've been trying to contact the embassy all week but can't seem to get through to anyone.

Which currency is best to use there? I've looked at websites that suggest taking dollars and changing to Som on the black market as the rates are far more favourable than at state outlets. Is it possible/advisable to just use dollars the entire time rather than carrying large wedges of Som about? If so how much would I be looking at losing out?

Other info - I'm there for a week travelling between Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara and perhaps down to Shahrisabz for a day if time allows it.

Any other tips/advise from anyone that's spent some time there is welcomed!

Employment Tribunals government loses case - Victory for working people

Another victory against this repressive government - the so called friends of worker's rights To view the link you have to Register or Login

This is a massive win for working people. Too many low-paid workers couldn’t afford to uphold their rights at work, even when they’ve faced harassment or have been sacked unfairly.

Tribunal fees have been a bonanza for bad bosses, giving them free rein to mistreat staff. Any fees paid so far should be refunded as soon as possible.
Ministers vow to end employment tribunal fees after court defeat.

Supreme court rules fees of up £1,200 are ‘inconsistent with access to justice’ and government may have to pay back £27m

The Ministry of Justice said it would take “immediate steps to stop charging fees in employment tribunals and put in place arrangements to refund those who have paid”. Unison said more than £27m of fees needed to be refunded.

I am so very proud that it is my union (UNISON) which has successfully challenged this great injustice. As the Supreme Court has said Employment Tribunals play a vital role in enforcing employment rights by employees and workers including the low paid.

The Court found that UNISON’s evidence showed that the fall in claims when fees came in was “so sharp, so substantial and so sustained” that fees could not reasonably be afforded by those on low to middle incomes. It also held that fees particularly deterred claims of low value which as we know are generally brought by the most vulnerable workers.

This historic judgement makes heavy criticism of the Government’s actions. It found that the system of fees introduced in 2013 infringed constitutional rights.

The Court said that citizens’ right of access to the courts which is guaranteed by Magna Carta was effectively prevented by the Fees Order which introduced fees in Employment Tribunals. The level at which the fees had been set contravened “elementary economics and plain common sense”.

This is why we need stronger unions in the workplace - join a union today To view the link you have to Register or Login

Name a club that Palace have done business with....

Missed Palace more this summer / close season than any other so catch myself either popping on here or eagles.cpfc videos to get my Palace fix.

There must be a couple of English clubs out there we've never done any sort of business with so let's try and sift them out.

It's clubs we've either:
Sold a player to
Signed a player from
Loans
Or managers
(Add the foreign ones as well)

First up:

Yohan Cabaye - PSG

Rumour: Raul Jimenez

26 year old Benfica and Mexico striker according to reports in Portugal: To view the link you have to Register or Login

Suggestion: Karsdrop

Keeping up the Dutch revolution if we are serious about the 5 at the back formation we could do a lot worse then Feyrnoord RWB Karsdrop. Young, Pacey and good on the ball also delivers a wicked cross. 8 million could be a offer big enough for him.

Suggestion: Jeremy Toljan

Right back. Germany U-21 player with Hoffenheim. Entering last year of his contract and available for £3.1m. Spurs sniffing around but surely more likely to get better opportunities at Palace.

Dulwich match

There is an U23 match tonight - don't suppose anyone is doing coverage or knows likely teams etc.?

Jairo is under 23 :)

Junior Gold Membership

I wonder if anyone knows....

I was going to get my son his usual kit for the forthcoming season and the shirt is £35 alone, but junior gold membership which includes the shirt plus some other bits and pieces for £40.

Question is - if i do that can i get his name printed on the back of the shirt?

Figure for an extra £5 if he can get along to the junior events it be a good spend of money.

(He already has a season ticket, so im assuming i can buy this membership as well?)

Monk Rumour Tim Krul again ...

Assuming its just a fan from another team putting 2 and 2 together and making 523, but a Man City fan who claims to have inside knowledge of this one, says Krul is coming to us.

He's currently very much available.

Suggestion: Lucas Perez (striker)

Reported unhappy with Arsenal for stripping his no.9 shirt number to Lacazette.

Spanish international, 28 yo, bought by Arsenal from Deportivo for £17.1 million couple seasons ago and maybe available for less than that now.

Limited opportunities given by Arsene, but good goal scoring record when on the field. Has Premier League experience and would provide good competition for Benteke and Wickham.

Rumour: Chris Smalling

If Sakho and Chambers prove to be too expensive and BMI chooses to remain at Stoke, then Smalling wouldn't be a bad backup option at all, especially at £10M. There's also the added benefit of taking him from under Pulis' nose.

The cuts from Macron coming in thick and fast. His popularity reduced by 10% to 54% in just three months. All very predictable.

The Blair of France will end up hated. Let's hope that it's the left rather than the fascist right of Le Pen that benefit and offer an alternative.

China visas

Good morning BBS

I have a question re visas for China. We will be ending a cruise in Beijing (from Singapore) & leaving there within 72 hours - would this qualify for the transit waiver? The Embassy website hasn't helped me on this - the crucial thing seems to be that the traveller must leave the Beijing area to a third party country, not the destination they have come from. So not LHR>PEK for 70 hours then PEK-LHR. We will be coming from LHR>SIN then via ship to Beijing.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

TIA :)

Jairo Riedewald discussion

Highest pass completion rate in the dutch premier league last year i think they said, 92% likes to pass forward and can dribble with the ball. be interesting to see what sakhos pass completion rate was at us.

Suggestion: Andre Blake could he shine for Palace

MLS player of the year 2016 also was number one draft pick first time in MLS history a goal keeper has done this

Been watching him for a while and he has no obvious weaknesses. Agile good shot stopper commands his area good with his feet can catch with good distribution. Excellent communicator marshalls defence extremely well. What's not to like. Oh hes also young experienced international with sell on possibilities wont cost the earth either

Political fandom ... ?

Not convinced by this at all. Seems a very blithe way of dismissing the views of vast swathes of the electorate, rather like calling Brexiters thick ...

Or maybe we really are all this superficial these days?

Quote:

Political fandom isn’t entirely new. Margaret Thatcher had her fan base and, in 1994, Silvio Berlusconi in Italy created a party, Forza Italia, named after a football supporters’ chant. His candidates even wore Italy’s blue football shirts. But social media gave political fandom a lift. Now supporters have spaces to express themselves, away from old po-faced wannabe-neutral political media. Partisans gather on social media to root for their candidate in a debate, almost as if it were a boxing match. Elections look ever more like sporting spectacles.

Suggestion: Lucas Perez

Should try and get him on loan from Arsenal after the massive barney he's had with them.

Would be great support up top for Benteke, wants game time in a World Cup year and he wouldn't have to leave London.

Apparently his old club Deportivo have offered him a TEN year deal...

Selling Property without an Estate Agent

Hi All,

Asking for a bit of advice. having a bit of trouble getting our flat sold, so Mrs KP and I can move up to Norwich for work. We've been on the market for approx. 6 weeks now and only had 4 viewings. We've missed out on at least 3 viewings because the agent's communication is less than ideal. Long story short, is there anywhere we can advertise without using an estate agent, because at this point, I don't want to give the buggers a penny...

Cheers

Holmesdale Display Donations v Huddesfield

With less than three weeks to go until the opening day of the season, we as the Palace fanbase must now start building momentum to make the upcoming campaign a success.
There is much to be positive about. Puncheon, a perfect embodiment of the spirit of our club, proud South London lad and leader on and off the pitch is now confirmed as full time captain.
New contracts for Zaha, Speroni and Delaney ensure the loyal Palace spine of the squad remains and in De Boer we have an exciting, dignified, progressive appointment and a manager whose early statements, mentality and track record suggests a great match for the Palace ethos.
One whose core values and history of pushing youth prospects to the forefront of the team and creating a positive culture which represents and celebrates a clubs spirit is something to massively build on.
Together, we go into this new season ready to push on but as always this will only be achieved with all of us ready for the fight ahead.
With this in mind and to hit the new season running, the group is putting together an opening day two tier display. As ever we rely on your support to make this a reality and are asking for contributions from the Palace support to help us finance the plans.
As always, YOU make these displays the successes they are.
Please do your bit, share this message and together we'll be ready to start this season as only the Palace can.

Ebay and collections

Hi all,

Hope someone can help.

I've just sold an item for £570 on ebay. Its my first time selling anything on it.

My item needs to be collected. The buyer who has #283 good recomendations has paid straight away via paypal. I've got emails from paypal saying the money is there and i need to dispatch the item.

I'm worried that i dont have any tracking reference or such if the guy loads up his car, drives away and them puts in a query saying he didnt recieve it. He obviously knows its my first time selling something.

Am i ok to just let him have the goods? Or what should i do? How do i get or have proof that he has reciept of the goods?

I've asked him to just bring the cash but he has emailed to say he's paid paypal and its too late.

Advice please. Thanks.

Why is "unemployment" low, and at the same time, wages are down?

Mike Deakin RIP

The club has recently been advised of the passing of Mike Deakin aged 83.

Mike was a centre-forward who joined the club from Bromsgrove Rovers in November 1954 and made just over 150 first team appearances and scoring 62goals until his last game in August 1959.

This was a difficult time for the club as we became a founder member of Division Four but Mike then found himself playing alongside Johnny Byrne as
the upturn in the club's fortunes began. Mike then played for Northampton Town and Aldershot.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.

Players Benefiting from FdB's Coaching

Is it just me or do nearly all our players look a lot more comfortable on the ball? Even Delaney seemed better as it looked like he knew where the next pass was meant to go even if it didn't get there a couple of times. The players seemed to know where to come short for him to give him an easy pass. Also a lot of times over the past few seasons most players didn't seem to know what to do with the ball when they received it. Although some of the passing moves didn't come off it at least looked like they knew where the next pass was meant to go and where to move to receive the ball. Seems to me that FdB has already improved our current playing squad after just a few weeks.

Jules - one last season?

Watching Jules against WBA I'd forgotten what it's like to have a keeper on that we have confidence will actually stop shots and save us some points. If we don't buy another keeper then I'd say on this showing that he should be reinstated as our number 1 for this season. :lux:

Spurs Home and Man U at Home

Just noticed these are on consecutive weeks end Feb/start March. Just as my long Santiago summer holiday is coming to an end.

A bit of money should be entering my bank account next week.

I just looked at flights (taking into account all possible Sky changes). I think I may be bringing my wife to Europe and incidently taking in a couple of matches.

Found Santiago to Amsterdam returns for a very good price indeed. Gets into Amsterdam the morning of St Valentine's Day. Just have to plan from there. A couple of tips of nice towns to visit in Holland and Belgium wouldn't go amiss. May even take in Paris and Eurostar to London.

Tilting at windmills

vendredi 21 juillet 2017

I've always sort of understood what this meant, but not really had occasion to use it as the idiom it is.

As I'm currently reading Don Quixote, I saw and read it's origin and was surprised to read the feat barely filled a very short chapter, and in fact the term itself was not actually used as far as I recall.

Anyway - since rediscovering the saying I am using the term a lot, and realize how appropriate it is (especially considering on the whole American's don't have clue what I'm talking about).

My wife is a prime example... she is always looking for a fight with something, be it a doctors office, a billing office, the supermarket, her mothers care etc.

Another example is a a woman I work with... for 8 hours a day she is fighting the world... everything is a crisis. It is the same for many of the people at work.

I on the other hand am the Sancho Panza... I run and hide from conflict.

I see while doing a Google search they are saying Donald Trump is Tilting at Windmills, and I have to say I was thinking exactly the same before I read that!

What is it with people?

Sorry... self indulgent thread. :sunglasses:

Do you like your manager?

My normal boss is off sick at the moment and has been for a few months - I think it's due to a potential heart issue, which is a real shame.

He's a bit of a crap manager but one of the best guys I know, so I give him a lot of slack when he f*cks up. He's almost like an office version of Ian Holloway. A bit crap, but an good bloke and you know that he means well.

The guy who has come in to replace him temporarily (though I fear it will likely become permanent) is a wanker.

Like my old boss, he's not actually very good at managing a team. However, unlike my old boss, he's not a decent person. He just doesn't seem to get people at all and the only term that comes to mind is 'lizard-person'. I just don't like him at all and I think if he were to become permanent, I would have to leave. It's got to the point where I dread coming into work knowing that he's going to be there.

What do you think of your boss?

Old Dog or New Tricks?

jeudi 20 juillet 2017

Now that BFS is ready to return to football, I found myself wondering if I'd rather have Fat Sam back instead of De Boer. Before BFS came here I disliked the man, ( not that fond even now ) didn't rate him that highly as a manager and would have taken De Boer over him in a heartbeat. Yet the way Fat Sam got the best out of our players, spent superbly and found a system not only to win but with the best football we've seen since promotion won me over. BFS is about as close a thing to assured Premiership safety as we're going to realistically get from a British manager and would, I'm sure, have taken us forward to at least some degree.

On the other hand, FDB gives us an international cachet Sam couldn't, has intimate knowledge of the European market and his name will likely enable us to bring in players we'd otherwise have no easy access to, provided we have the necessary funds to spend. In time, if the risk we are taking to change how we play pays off, FDB could potentially take us to a whole new level on the global stage. But making the changes FDB wants is, make no mistake, a risk.

So if we could wave a wand and choose, who'd we prefer at the helm? BFS or FDB?

Rumour: Jeroen Zoet

Palace transfers through the ages

Some good data here.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Can't do a full analysis because I think the website is missing some deals.

Plus, these days there is all this bullshit of undisclosed deals - how does that correspond with transparancy, tax, and FFP rules?

But looking through this year by year you can gauge the turmoils of Palace.

Interesting things to note:

1) There seemed very little transfer activity from 1982 to 1987 - is that correct?

2) Ron and his partners really fleeced Palace - buy for next to nothing (usually with the fans lifeline money), and sell high. Even some of the marque signings only spent a percentage of what had been brought in. Over the years Ron must have pocketed 50% of all transfer fees.

3) The team of the early 90s was sold off cheaply.

4) Other than a couple of abhorations SJ's transfer results were pretty prudent overall. I can see why he is still bitter about the things conspiring against him. Yet, he managed to mismanage the club...

5) CPFC2010 spent very little in respect of player transfers, and have done very nicely on the back of the Zaha situation and selling to the Yanks.

6) The transfers of the last couple of seasons and NOW really are unchartered territory for Crystal Palace.

Company loans to director question

This might be a really silly question but...

For reasons I'm not going to disclose I'm looking into an individual company that we have dealings with. Obviously I'm a complete amateur and don't really know what I'm doing as I don't know a lot about company law/tax law/any other associated issues.

Anyways it turns out that the director of the company is also a director for 5 other companies.

Judging by the abbreviated accounts for each of these companies it seems each financial year these 2 of these companies loan the director at 0% interest somewhere between £100,000 and £150,000 each year (and has been doing so since at least 2010) and the director seemingly repays all of these loans. Another linked company loans another family member circa £25,000 each year, which again is paid back.

It may not be relevant to what I'm doing but I'm just curious as to why this might be the case and what are the reasons why the director would take these loans each year and repay them. Is it legit and above board or does it sound a bit dodgy?

3-4-3 So who fits where and what do we need?

mercredi 19 juillet 2017

It certainly sounds like Frank intends us to play this way and after our first look at the set up I am trying to work out what it means for our squad, who will fit where and what we still need.

Obviously the goalkeeping position is the same whatever the formation and we are 1 short, whether that is a new No.2 or a new No.1.

But for the 3 CBs we currently have Dann, Tomkins, Kelly, Damo and maybe Ward. So we probably need more there and hopefully an improvement in quality.
I imagine Riedewald will play left of the three if he has signed (or does in the future) with Dann and Tomkins the most likely out of the other players we have. I thought Ward did OK in that role today but I'm not sure if in the longer term is an option for that position or whether he would compete for the right wing back role?

We have 2 obvious candidates for the left wing back role - that looks sorted - but what about the right? I presume Townsend is more likely to play in the 3 up top when we have everyone available. Ward could probably play there but I'm not sure his game really suits the role. So will we be in the market for a right wing back? Can Chambers play that role? Or is he more of an out and out defender?

The new system also means that we may only play with 2 central midfielders. With Luka, Cabaye, Punch and RLC - we may actually have enough in that department already. So maybe selling Jimmy Mc does start to make more sense if we will only play 2 of them. We will also have Jonny (hopefully) as another option.

In the front 3 we obviously have Wilf and Benteke and I imagine Townsend will also nail down a place there. Wickham (if fit) provides some depth, along with Sako and possibly Lee.
I wonder when we look at strikers if we may try to get someone who could operate both centrally and in one of the wider roles. Am I right in thinking RLC played quite high up for Chelsea last season?

So our current options look something like this

GK Hennessey, Speroni
CB Dann, Tomkins, Ward, Kelly, Delaney, Jairo (if he has signed)
LWB Schlupp, PVA, Souare
RWB Ward?, Townsend?
CM Luka, Cabaye, Punch, RLC, Jimmy Mc, Williams
WF Wilf, Townsend, Sako, Kaikai, Lee
CF Benteke, Wickham

So apart from a goalkeeper, we may look for another CB (even after Riedewald), we obviously need another forward or two. However right wing back may be the area we are currently weakest in?

Is that a fair assessment? Thoughts?

What does Grujic need to do to get a red

Match report: CPFC v Glenavon

Not often I get to see a Palace team play 10 minutes away from where I live in NI so I was glad to go to the CPFC 'Development Squad' match against Irish league side Glenavon from Lurgan. Terrible evening! The average age of our squad looked about 15 and none of them seemed to want to be there. They were nervous and not at all up for it. They didn't create a single chance all evening and ended up being lucky only to get thumped 4-0. To be fair, the Glenavon team did include several first team players and their player manager came on at one point presumably to be able to say he'd played against 'Crystal Palace' - wazzick. Our young keeper was the only one of the team who looked anyway decent. Not sure if anything was gained other than to confirm that most of the kids on show may not be up to it (then again, they have to start somewhere, so who knows?).

FDB Too intense?

FDB has seemed VERY intense from day one. I have hardly seen the players smile or laugh once during the training photos (apart from when they are mucking about between themselves). It must be a bit of a culture shock after Big Sam's more relaxed approach, but they all do look very miserable when FDB is about!

Hopefully it's just when the cameras and videos are rolling, but I hope that training is more of a balance of intensity and 'fun' than we see on the vids.

I'm not suggesting that they shouldn't be taking the job seriously but good morale is an important element in any job surely?

Hammersmith Tube Station

I have a friend at work traveling to London next week and will be taking the tube from Heathrow to Goldhawk Road (which I have never heard of).

All the Internet travel planners say to change at Hammersmith and walk for 7 minutes to to the Hammersmith & City line then the one stop to Goldhawk Road.

Again I don't think I've heard of the Hammersmith & City line but it is not an area I've ever spent much time in.

My question is anyone familiar with Hammersmith Tube Station? Is it really a 7 minute walk between platforms (or even stations)?

The guy is going to be with his family, have a ton of luggage, never been to London, and been traveling for at least 12 hours. He asked my advice, but I've not been a lot of help.

I'm tempted to tell him to get cab from Hammersmith to the house he is staying at.

Lazy Journalism which assumes we are 1 of the 3 Premier League teams interested as we have been linked with him before. Nevertheless.

The agent of Stefano Sturaro admits Premier League offers have arrived for the Juventus midfielder.

Sturaro is weighing up his options at Juve this summer, having come close to joining Crystal Palace in January.

Palace remain keen and agent Carlo Volpi admits they're not alone this summer.

He told calcionews24.com: "There are many interested foreign clubs, three in England, one Russian and several Chinese interests.

"But we're not ready to give up (on Juve) just now."

Witnessing tragic/morbid events

dimanche 16 juillet 2017

Apologies for the morbid title of the topic but i was witness to a train fatality on Friday night on my way home from work. The rescue services were having to deal with the person underneath my carriage and I saw people on the platform inconsolable and covered in blood.

It's been on my mind since then and I've had s few dreams about it but wondered if anyone else had witnessed anything like this be it transport or anything else?

What would you rather have...?

Our 10 year old son posed the following question while we were all sat watching The Hotel Inspector (no comments please) last night:

What would you rather have - farts that smell of petrol or bogies made of chocolate?

For the avoidance of doubt - we agreed that the petrol aroma would be non-harmful to health over the long term.

Interestingly, all four of us (me, him, wife, daughter) went for the petrol farts option. I mean, who doesn't love the smell of petrol - imagine having access to that at regular intervals throughout the day? You'd be shovelling baked beans and curry down like there's no tomorrow in order to feed your addiction.

Our daughter's reasoning was typically obtuse - she can't stand the smell of petrol but would get fat shoving chocolate bogies down her gob all day, as indeed she would due to her notorious lack of willpower where food is concerned.

I wondered if this small sample was representative of the wider population.

What say you?

Discussion: new transfer policy: focus on youth

Since we've been promoted, there's been a lack of younger players breaking through into the first team or exciting talent on the bench that we have been able to develop.

Obviously, it's less risky to bring in a tried and tested player at prem level whilst blooding youngsters in the first team is difficult when you are scrapping for your lives on the edge of the relegation zone!

However, it's still depressing to see the likes of Adebayour, Remi, Flamini waltz around the pitch, knowing they are here for one last big pay day and it's hardly about building a team for the future.

With FDB now at the helm and his track record of bringing players through the ranks at Ajax, we seem to have a new found desire to bring in younger players than we’ve previously targeted (Loftus-Cheek, Riedewald sounds close, rumours link us with Chambers).

Part of this may be due to our focus on a passing and pressing game which a midfield of Punch, Cabaye, McArthur etc would struggle to manage (given their age) for a full 90 minutes (how many late goals did we concede last season!).

It may seem like folly to some, but I'm delighted with this approach as we’ve always been a club that’s good at developing real youth talent and it’s exciting to get that energy back on the pitch!

Ultimately, if the player ends up moving to a larger club, than it’s a big pay day for us (vs a signing on large wages that we can’t get off the books)!!!! It seems like the only sustainable model (see Southampton) that a mid-sized club like Palace can feasibly operate for the long-term.

What do others think?

Stamp Duty - Help - @ any accountants or legal bods

I have a situation whereby I'm buying a property with my partner who is currently named on another mortgage until November this year.

Her relationship with her ex broke down last year and she moved out of the property and he paid her off (via a solicitor) so she is no longer responsible for the property.

However, it was a 2 year fixed deal and he couldn't afford a new mortgage as a single applicant at the time. So she has to wait until the end of that 2 years (this November) to formally come off the deeds.

So, as we've just had an offer accepted, I need to know how I can go about just paying the standard 3% stamp duty and not the second home one at a much higher rate.

In the circumstances I am hoping this is possible? She's been paid off, doesn't reside there or have any financial obligation to the mortgage she is literally just waiting for her name to come off on 1st November.

Any help greatly appreciated!!

Cheers.

Rumour: Kyle Bartley

SWANSEA centre-back Kyle Bartley has been targeted by Crystal Palace and Stoke.

The 26-year-old, who has one year left on his contract at the Liberty Stadium, is also wanted by Garry Monk at Middlesbrough but has Premier League interest.

Former Arsenal defender Kyle Bartley is a wanted man
Stoke boss Mark Hughes is also looking to bolster his defence with Kyle Bartley

Stoke boss Mark Hughes is also looking to bolster his defence with Kyle Bartley
Monk coached the ex-Arsenal defender at Leeds last season and wants him at the Riverside after his impressive season in the Championship.

His form has also led to Palace looking at putting together a deal as they prepare to replace Mamadou Sakho, who was on loan from Liverpool last season but too expensive to sign permanently.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes is also looking to bolster his back line and is hoping Bartley will add to competition at the Bet365 Stadium.

His contract situation at Swansea means he could go in a cut-price deal rather than losing him for free in a year.

Bournemouth attempted to sign the ex-Arsenal man in the January transfer window but moved for Nathan Ake as their centre-back signing of the summer.

Leeds were also interested in taking him again after his spell at Elland Road but are behind Premier League clubs in the race to land him before the start of the season.

Owen Jenkins, RIP.

mardi 11 juillet 2017

A very brave boy called Owen Jenkins, aged 12, died yesterday at the Beeston Weir Fields in Nottingham. He died trying to save a young girl who'd got into difficulties in the fast moving waters of the River Trent yesterday teatime.

Not the usual celebrity departed obituary thread, but nonetheless, I wanted to make people outside of Nottingham aware of this selfless act if you've not seen the story covered in the national press.

Ironically, we (wife and me) were walking our three dogs yesterday on the playing fields adjacent to the Weir, and we saw young Owen and his pal, walking along, having a laugh and a joke together. Little did we know, half an hour or so later, the happy boy, full of life, would be reported missing to the close knit community of Beeston Rylands, soon out in their hundreds, looking for the him. His body was found some hours later by the emergency services.

Today, I returned with our dogs to the Weir Fields. Around 200 or so people were gathered to pay tribute to young Owen. Flowers placed on the ground as the crowd stood silently by the waters that took their boy away. No media, no agendas, just his friends, family and local people in general, giving up their time to show their respect. I found the scene incredibly moving. More so because I'd seen Owen beforehand, out enjoying himself. I will never forget it. RIP.

Rumour: Jairo Ridewald

Everton are trying to hijack Crystal Palace's move for £.8.6m-rated Ajax defender Jaïro Riedewald.

Ronald Koeman wants the 20-year-old, who can operate at left back and on the left side of central defence, as cover for Leighton Baines and Ashley Williams.

The 6ft Netherlands international was heading to Selhurst Park for the opportunity to work with Frank de Boer, his former coach at Ajax.

But Everton have made a late bid to lure the Dutchman, who can also play as a defensive central midfielder, to Goodison Park.

The ECHO understands Koeman, who is currently travelling with the squad to Tanzania, has earmarked the highly-rated youngster as an important squad player who could play a key part in his Europa League selections.

Riedewald received his first call up to the senior Dutch team in August 2015. He has three caps.

The Ajax academy product – who has made 63 appearances for the senior side, scoring twice - is represented by influential Dutch agency SEG.

Meanwhile the Blues also want Vitesse goalkeeper Eloy Roon to replace Joel Robles as back-up to £28m summer recruit Jordan Pickford.

Private parking 'fine'

Got a ticket through the post for spending too long in a McDonalds car park (I know...).

Was sending a load of emails whilst ordering copious amounts of poor quality coffee, so was a genuine customer. I still have the receipts. Rumour: Stefano Denswil

Crystal Palace are keen on Club Brugge defender Stefano Denswil.
The 24-year-old started out at Ajax where he initially attracted a lot of attention from the likes of Manchester United and AC Milan. However, he fell out of favour under now Palace boss Frank de Boer and was allowed to leave for Club Brugge.
He has improved while in Belgium, winning the league, and has been a recent target for Monaco and Everton. De Boer is understood to be keen to give the versatile Denswil another chance as he looks to strengthen a suspect defence.

Inheritance Tax - delaying payment

Just wondering if anyone can advise me on inheritance tax? Specifically on what I have to pay and when I have to pay it.

My Dad died in January, and according to HMRC "You must pay Inheritance Tax by the end of the sixth month after the person died". That means it has be paid by 31st July.

HMRC also say they "will charge you interest if you don’t pay by the due date" which seems to leave open the option of paying some or all of the tax late. Probate has not been granted yet.

Although Dad's main asset was his house, there is just about enough in cash and shares to pay the Inheritance Tax bill. But I would prefer to keep some cash back for now to cover my own expenses and to have some spare money for the upkeep of the house.

So rather than pay the full amount by 31st July, I would like to make a small initial payment, and tell HMRC I will pay the balance over the next XX months, and I understand that interest is chargeable.

In practice, can I delay payment in this way, or would HMRC demand that the full amount is paid immediately on the basis that the funds are available to pay?

Fed up with football

After hearing that Anthony Modeste (25 goals in 36 games last season) is going to China rather than stay with FC Cologne during their first outing into European football for over two decades.

After hearing United have gone all out to break a transfer record again on a single player just because the brand is more important than the actual football these days. (Richest club in the world last three years now due to the brand alone).

After hearing Costa wanted out in January for China or Atletico when he was at a club challenging for the league title.

After hearing the Arsenal fans moan, protest and gesticulate over their manager for the entire 2016/17 season when the FA Cup was still up for grabs. Do they just not see it as a major trophy anymore now Wenger delivers it all the time? Since when was a major trophy less important than a last 16 Champions League exit every season??

How can I hate the game I love at the same time so much ? :wallbash:

Of course money killing the game is nothing new. But it's clearly influencing the game more than it ever has done before. I don't like it one bit.
