We now have Relegated Huddersfield

I remember that we now have relegated poor Huddersfield twice now. Once yesterday and once when we beat Stockport on the last day some years ago, I bet they don't like us now.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Spurs (away)

————————————Guaita—————————————
AWB—————-Tomkins————Dann———————PVA
Townsend——McArthur————Milivojevic————Schlupp
———————Benteke—————Zaha————————-

That’s our best XI (Sakho for Dann when fit). Lots of work to do to bring us back to where we were at the end of last season. We’ve gone backwards since losing Cabaye and RLC. Time to replace them properly in the summer.

This game kept us up

samedi 30 mars 2019

Can see that this one pushed us over the line. Maybe we don't need anything more, maybe a point or three - but I'm putting my feet up.

Suggestion: Aaron Mooy

Worth a look in the summer? Or soon to be 29, too old?

Brawl in the Old Stand

Come on then, what sparked that off?

Poll Luka v Kouyate

I know you may prefer to pick both but if you only get one defensive midfielder who would it be? This reflects a chat we had at the game. Kouyate for me.

To the people in the Arthur who booed at HT and booed when Macca came on...

Please go back to Chelsea or Man Utd or whoever you used to support. The would be better not selling tickets that away fans don’t want if that’s who buys them.

Palace coach quits following race allegation

Palace coach David Muir has quit his role after the club opened an investigation following a complaint that he made a racist remark on an FA Training Course.

Would you sell your home because of crappy neighbours?

I noticed on another thread someone mentioned doing just this and I'm working towards it myself.

I live in a house I'd never thought I could own overlooking the Pacific. We're both extremely happy here but our immediate neighbour has turned into right **** and is always doing what he can do to wind us up. I let it wash over me because the moment I bite back he's won and he's not going to stop. He's a bit mental and bored, so it's for his amusement.

So I'm in the process of buying a piece of land down the road with the aim building a house then selling ours.

I'd never thought I'd be pushed to do this.

Damary Dawkins - 13th Minute Applause

Hi all.

Damary Dawkins, a Palace youth player who was the subject of a campaign to get a stem cell transplant last year, died on Sunday last week.

His family will be in attendance at the Huddersfield game tomorrow, and we'd like to show our love and respect to them by applauding in the 13th minute, to mark his age.

If you're going, please do your best to applause in the 13th minute.

Buy a bigger house or put it in a pension ?

Hoping for any advice from fellow BBSers who are self employed.

I know everyone has different circumstances but generally speaking, when you start considering retirement, and what we are all going to do when that time comes, would you recommend putting the money (that would normally go into a private pension) into investing in a bigger property ... one which you could then trade down from and hopefully have made a decent profit on.

Would you put your pension money into a property ?

Bournemouth Financial Fair Play

Bournemouth released their accounts this week, in it they made a loss of about £11m for the 17/18 season. This included a settlement with the EFL for their breaches of Financial Fair Play when getting promoted, paying a fine of almost £5m for their cheating in that league.

However what is most striking is that their wage bill rose 42% and their staff costs (predominantly players and coaches) went from £71m to £102m, so how do they do that without breaching the STCC rules?

Building reg - new kitchen

Looking for some advice. We have had a new kitchen fitted (old one completely ripped out) and had oven in new location 4ft feet away and new dishwasher installed, new sink. Wall, re-tiled, new cabinets, etc etc. Cost a fair amount.

I've asked the fitters for certificates for the work. And, they said you don't need them as they said they haven't moved any electrics. (I think they have only removed them and put them back where they were after tiling.

After having them in my house for 2 weeks, realised they seem like cowboys as had a number of issues and don't have a great deal of clue what they are doing at times.

They have now finished and pleased to get rid. But, don't want to pay out - if I'm missing anything that they legally should provide.

Football documentaries

As a consequence of binge listening podcast "Quickly Kevin Will He Score" I have found myself falling down the rabbit hole of TV documentaries about, usually, struggling football teams.

Obviously this has been continued with the recent Netflix "Sunderland Til I Die" which is the 2nd time cameras have been allowed to follow that teams fortunes as previously there was "Premier Passions". This followed the fortunes of Peter Reids team in the top tier during the 96/97 season which is available to watch on You Tube.

However, there are some absolute gems which are worth a view, here are links to some of the best...enjoy. :)

This has to be my absolute favourite, Chester City: An American Dream

Then there is "They Think Its All Rovers" which features the superb Danny Bergara trying to keep Donny Rovers up

Then this one....which had me swearing at the screen...if you want proof that there are absolute ***** out there that care not one jot about football or the people that work in it (Thats if the previous two efforts havent convinced you) then this must be the convincer. Trouble at the Top: Luton Town

Obviously we all know "There's Only One Barry Fry" and the superb "The Impossible Job" featuring Graham Taylor but anyone else got any recommendations?

Then on channel 4 news tonight they finished off with "UK going to recommend car are fitted with limiters to restrict speed to 70mph" stating it will save thousands of lives a year!

Deaths on the road have gone down from 5990 PY in 1980 to 1770 PY in 2018 and only 480 were due to speed so the maximum lives that can be saved is 480.

EPL finals Xbox and PS4

I’ve not seen a thread about this even though we seem to have been drawn in the same play-off groups as Brighton.

I sort of assumed that the guys representing the teams are keen players who won through to the finals at club heats. However, I’m pretty sure that I heard on the radio yesterday that one of Man City’s players is a professional gamer who they ‘signed’ for the competition. Apparently he is a PlayStation world champion. Are our representatives professional gamers as well?

London Transport Improvements

Plans to re-build Clapham Junction have been released:

"The redevelopment would see more trains able to stop at Clapham Junction, and preparatory works for the underground platforms for Crossrail 2 to arrive.

It also results in around 5,000 additional homes being built in the area, with the goal of not so much burying the railway station, but making the space more permeable so that it’s easier for people to get from one side to the other."

Expected to be completed in a decade...

Pre Newcastle away
midday to 2pm
only 150 tickets available

For tickets go too http:bit.ly/crystalpalaceboatparty

We have decided to put on a pre party before the Newcastle away game, down the Tyne, on board one of the Tyne party boats.

The boat holds 150 and we will be taking requests for music. Plan is to play a wide variety through from the 80s, 90s, indie and pop to Palace anthems.

The boat boards at Newcastle Quayside (near the Tyne Bridge) and drops back at the same place. It's then a 20 min walk to the stadium.

Plan is to chant our way down the river and enjoy a good drink while we do it. Food will be served on board, including sausage sarnies and bacon rolls.

Hopefully see you there!!

UEFA Nations League Finals Porto June 2019

Any other Palace fans going to this?

I gave up with the England team several years ago but the latest squad have got me excited again.

Porto is a great city, so even more reason to take this in. Managed to get 4 tickets so it will be a train from the Algarve to Porto. Hotel booked in the city.

First game (and England's next game) is on Thursday 6th June versus Netherlands.

Could be England's first major football trophy since 1966.

Anybody playing this? I got it on PS4 and I suck. I've played 6 games so far and have 0 kills in 5 of them. The other one I had 4 kills and our team was Top 3. It's been since Black Ops 2 since I've played COD but the controls feel similar. Just have to get used to the other stuff that's involved.

Renewables Push Energy Price Negative for 6 Hours

For all those naysayers out there that say renewable energy doesn't work and/or is too expensive and pushes everyone's bills higher, here is something interesting. Yesterday, the unseasonably warm and bright weather sent the wholesale energy price negative for 6 hours.

Of course, this is a challenge to conventional, big box energy and the utilities that depend on it so expect to see more negative headlines and grumbles about renewable energy from them and their friends in the nuclear industry.

How would you fix UK Transport

Congratulations, you are now the Transport Minister for the UK. How do you fix issues with cars, how do you fix issues with buses, with rail and with airports.

Roads

Make every motorway a smart motorway, but, allow this to increase speed limits in "perfect" conditions from 70 to 80.

Abolish road tax and make it a legal requirement for every vehicle to be fitted with a GPS Tracker that will then weekly/monthly/yearly charge 1p per mile driven. Discounts will be available to business/freight etc. and off-peak time of travel.

This fund will then go straight into road development funds and funds into new fuel technology working alongside manufacturers.

Cap fuel pricing at £1 per litre for petrol and £1.10 for diesel.

Fully motorway the A1 from London to Scotland.

Extend the M5 Motorway from Exeter to Penzance.
Extend the M11 Motorway from Cambridge to Hull.

Create three new East to West Motorways by upgrading the A14, A66 and A69
Create a new motorway from the M11 to Norwich (the M12?)

Create a North to South Welsh Motorway from Cardiff to Chester and a new West to East Welsh Motorway from Holyhead to Shrewsbury.

Trains

Fully electrify the entire UK Rail Network.

Standardise all carriages and facilities on board to create one big network.

Introduce a pay as you go 1p per mile (based on track distances). Discounts will be available to business/freight etc. and off-peak time of travel.

Create a new London Orbital Railway that vaguely follows the path of the M25 with big parking areas at certain points to encourage people to stay away from Central London for commuting.

Create a new West to East "Cornwall to Kent" railway that avoids London.

Create a sport railcard that will give you access to pre-paid but, changeable tickets for any sporting event registered onto the website. Governing bodies - the FA, the RFU etc. will need to register the events.

Buses

Non-Profit, every penny from fares put back into network improvements. Especially rural routes.

1p per mile with discounts for Under 16s, 18s and OAPS and off-peak travelling.

Airplanes

Two new national airports to be built, one in the South, in-between the M4, M5 and M40 in the South with dedicated motorway and public transport links. One to be built in the North in-between the A1(M), M6 and new A69(M)/A66(M) Motorways.

Offer improvements to Newcastle/Manchester/Cardiff/Edinburgh/Southampton/Birmingham Airports.

Suggestion: Young Welsh players

Wales seem to have a good young squad at present and I think we should go after a few of them. We've missed out on Brookes which is a real shame but there are some potential gems left.

Dan James looks really good player and will end up in a Premier League side, I hope it's us.

Ben Davies is a little older 25 and I don't think he is a regular for Spurs. Definitely an upgrade on Van Arnholt.

Harry Wilson is with Liverpool but he has been out on loan so could be worth a bid. Good player and takes a great free kick.

There are a few others but I think these three would be excellent additions and wouldn't break the bank.

Hennessey back in Wales team v Slovakia

Wayne Hennessey is back in the Wales team for today's home match against Slovakia - his 82nd international cap.

Interesting one this, still only 21 years of age so has lots of room to improve. If this is true I'm liking the approach with the players we're eyeing up, Reece James and possibly Oliver Burke.

Rumour: Reece James

I was chatting to a Wigan fan this evening at work who mentioned he was told by a fellow fan Palace have offered £10m for Reece James. Reece is currently on loan at Wigan from Chelsea. He said that James has been the standout player for them this season and has been switched recently to midfield where he looks comfortable, normally his position is right back. Now for me it seems a bit far fetched that we have already made a bid at this stage, but it could be a decent bit of business if we were to lose AWB. It seems this lad has plenty of potential, at 19 he has been almost ever present at Wigan this season.

Players who made a critical impact against Palace, but otherwise have largely been sh

I'll start:
  1. Kelechi Iheanacho, scored a last minute winner against us as his first ever goal for Man City in 2015. Scored 12 in 46 for them (not bad), went to Leicester for £25m and promptly flopped.

Timekeeping

It’s not the reason we lost to Brighton or Watford, before anyone tries to derail things, but timekeeping in matches by officials is ridiculous now.

Saturday was a case in point - all that time wasting, and players going down, and goals, and substitutes, resulted in just four minutes at the end of the game. First half was arguably even worse - just two minutes despite a goal and two injuries. Holebas alone was down for longer than two minutes.

Referees continually point to their watch, but it’s clearly a meaningless gesture. As is booking a goalkeeper for time wasting in stoppage time. It’s absolutely pointless, but ticks assessor boxes I guess.

Referees are clearly incapable of doing it properly, so why can’t it be done independently, like more or less every other sport? It’s not hard to stop a clock when there are subs and stoppages and so on.

When that idea of 60-minute matches with stopping clocks was raised, it was largely mocked, but I’m all for it - we would see more football than we do now, where every set-piece takes an age.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Huddersfield CHANGES NEEDED FOR HOME GAME

We are playing bottom team, let's try to get best out of squad:

------------------------------------Hennessey---------------------------------
AWB--------------Tomkins---------------------------Dann------------------PVA
Townsend---------Meyer (Kouyate)---------------Milivojevic--------------Zaha
-------------------Batshuayi-------------------------Benteke---------------------

Subs

Guaita
Kelly
Schlupp
McArthur
Kouyate
Ayew
Wickham

Personally think Hennessey deserves No1 jersey because he is better under the high ball. We are at HOME Mr Roy Hodgson, so ******* act like we are. 2 up top please. Personally would play Meyer in this one, out of all the games this is the one that he would be best in. But if it's too attacking for a home game against the bottom side then play Kouyate. Wingers can switch sides regularly. 2 up top. Take it to them. Options on the bench. COYP.

Getting a taste of our own medicine

I remember when we were a 'horrible team' back in the early 90s when we roughed up top teams to get results. Everton hated us as did Liverpool. Eric Young broke Martin Keown's nose in one game, Neville Southall sat in his goal at half time because he was so pi**ed off at us.

After the 1990 FA Cup Final replay the Man United team refused to swap shirts with the players after the game, even refusing to open the dressing room door to them because of how they perceived we man handled them.

Sure, football has changed since the 1990s... Or maybe people just forget?

When we got promoted in 2013 we were a horrible team to play against. Jedi got sent off at West Ham for a headbutt (I do not condone that behaviour) and generally we were physical as a team.

I am not advocating kicking the opposition off the park but we used to be up for it and now that team seems to be Watford. Fair play to them, if they can perform the 'dark arts' and get away with it. We'll see how it goes under VAR next season but that said we need to be more physical.

I don't like Deeney but everyone going on about what he said earlier in the season about taking turns in kicking Wilf. Was that really something we didn't suspect? Again, we used to rotate fouls under Pulis to avoid yellow cards. It isn't something new but maybe it isn't something our manager likes his players to do?

The difference between now and before is we never stayed in the top division long enough for us to taste our own medicine. We need to just 'man up' and give it back.

Bluetooth Issues.

I've recently been exploring music 'mixes' on Youtube and internet radio stations using iTunes. My MacBook Pro connects to a Bose sound link mini via Bluetooth.

I often lose the connection between the two and have to reconnect the speaker with the laptop but this never happens when I'm playing music from my iTunes library.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a Bluetooth issue (of done all the de-bugging stuff) or is it something to do with streaming?

My ipad has been getting slower and slower with each update so I’m now looking to replace. I’ve seen the new Galaxy 10 that is sooooo far ahead of the iPhone I’m switching on the next upgrade. This has made me think about is there an alternative that’s much better or equal to an ipad but saves a few £. Any pitfalls to avoid?

We Are The World?

I recently watched The USA's answer to Feed The World, a better song too imo, but there are some singers I don't recognise. I know I could google it but I thought it'd be fun to ask.

I know the first 2 are Lionel Ritchie and the great Stevie Wonder and then the equally brilliant Paul Simon and Kenny Rogers but who's great voice is straight after Roger's? Is it James Ingram?

And is the Dionne Warwick duet with Willy Nelson? I know the singers straight after are Al Jarreau (love him) and The Boss but who are the 2 right after them and before my fave (Daryl Hall) ?

Come on Millwall.

After much thought and examination of the pro's and con's that is the official line.
;)

That Gaming Wow Moment.

As a gaming vet I've had quite a few of these wow moments.
Pong being a first followed by the great Space Invaders and then Moon Cresta.
But after F-Zero and SMW, it would have to be Ridge Racer on PS for me...

I had this game and console on jap import and played it solid for months.

You?

Palace, Brighton and Watford

It could be argued that the three clubs are of similar size.

Yet, both Watford and Brighton:

- were promoted to the EPL after us;
- have greatly improved their grounds in recent years
- have smaller wage bills
- have spent considerably less in the transfer market in recent years
- have no "galacticos"
- have far fewer current internationals on their books
- in fact, currently have two Palace rejects as important players in their teams, whom they got for next to nothing
- lack the "Fortress Selhurst" home support that Palace has, yet have vastly superior home records
- are both likely to be in the semi-finals of the cup this year
- have played us five times - and won each game this season

- have managers who have completely out-thought ours on those five occasions, by changing personnel and shape

No reason for this to change now is there?

Oops sorry just seen the previous thread. Please merge, mods.

Is this our least enjoyable season in the PL?

The best squad we’ve ever had, and at best we’ll limp to safety.

So many games we’ve blown it - either tactically, missing sitters or terrible defending.

Out of both cups despite relatively helpful draws.

At least in the Pardew middle season we enjoyed being high up the table and despite our awful second half, got to the cup final.

We have seriously underachieved this season, appalling home form, and five defeats between Watford and Brighton.

So despite this being the season we’ve looked least likely to go down, it’s been by far the least fun.

A new manager would revive the club

This has been a damaging season for the character of the club and the collective spirit amongst us supporters who attend games.

Even before a ball was kicked, the club had dithered and stalled on the repeated requests from the HF to re-configure the lower Holmesdale. A series of decisions were then made which led us to starting the season on a Monday night against Liverpool with a strange feeling in the air, although the performance that night from the players was actually commendable. But it wasn't right. The stitches of our core support were pulled apart, without assigning blame or delving back into that debate, all supporters stances can be respected and understood. The club however failed massively to control a situation and be professional. Short, poorly written statements, u-turning, poor communication and finally presenting a half cooked, not quite what it should have been, solution.

Viewing the action on the pitch at Selhurst, season ticket holders have toiled and suffered, shelling out £150 (on average) per win so far. Only six goals from open play, SIX. Many of us can probably admit that we walk up Park Lane or Holmesdale Road, with less appetite and anticipation for what is to follow. The matchday experience and excitement is no longer something I personally that proud to be a part of and just don't feel the buzz in the same way. Some argue that we've played well at home and just failed to take our chances. When your home form is only slightly better than Huddersfield's, you cannot make excuse it with any stats.

Townsend's wonder goal aside, we've been starved of any moments as fans that bring us together. Even our cup run has been relatively unremarkable when you consider the moments that got us through each game. No dramatic gaols, no big celebrations... pragmatic and steady.

Moments that bring fans and players together are what gets the blood pumping through the veins of a club. Being out of form is one thing, but slowly declining and eroding the spirit of your supporters is another. It's a cumulative effect and at times it can come back briefly, but it takes real change to slowly turn the tide. Little ways the club operates, the under-achievements of the players, the division amongst those fans in the Holmesdale lower, the tired matchday experience at Selhurst (same music, same Crystals dancing, same super draw, same half time thing, same lack of goals, same getting crushed in the Arthur)...and then the prices get put up.

"yeah but if we were winning you wouldn't be saying all this" - I'd argue that the club won't be winning and properly get beyond this gloom until lots of things are addressed, not just in the footballing parts of the club. The point is that we aren't being fickle by expressing frustration, we are realistic - this squad is underachieving when you look at the individuals in it and the wages being forked out. We should be watching good, exciting football and seeing us progress. Watford were promoted a year after us and look at how well they are doing in the league AND cup.

One thing that I do think could be the catalyst to spark a new era and revive us supporters and the players, is a new manager in the summer. It has to happen then, no later.

If Roy persists, then I think the culture at the club will continue to change, getting flatter and flatter. He's done some brilliant work here, but it's insane to keep doing the same thing and getting the same negative results (poor home form, not changing in game tactics via subs).

Dreadful season and now we have owners that want out, a manager who lacks ambition and supporters who are more disconnected from the club than ever, since we got promoted.

So who should it be?

Roy - Important new poll

What say the forum after the past week?

That was exactly what I was expecting in every way!

Typical Roy and typical or this bunch of players!

Who is your MotM?

5 minutes to go to stay in the cup and...

...you leave a striker on the bench (Wickham) and don't bring a winger on to provide crosses (Ayew) in place of your ineffective and struggling center midfielder (Jimmy Mac) who has been playing wide all game...

I just don't understand how blunt our in game tactics are.

Why would you just not throw all you have on for the final five minutes?!? Does Roy think GD counts in the cup or something?

Are Watford the most pathetic club in history?

We knew that coming to the game they would rather have netted seats rather than Palace fans. However they have netted off seats BETWEEN the palace fans.

1 block on 1 side 1 on the other and netting down the middle stopping friends and family from meeting up at the game.

Pathetic club.

Driving Instructor Training

At the ripe old age of 50 I’m soon to be made redundant. Although I’ve sort of come to terms with it and had to accept it, I’m still gutted and a bit anxious about what to do next, going back in to my line of work isn’t a prospect as it’s a dying trade unfortunately.

So I’m toying with a couple of self employed ideas, one of them is to do the ADI driving instructor training, however working evenings and weekends isn’t something I’m used to, but it is what it is and I’m going to have to get my head round this if this is what I decide to do.

I’ve been looking at the courses and what’s involved online and had a chat with someone who’s in the business, but I really don’t know what company would be good to go with.

Anyone on here done this, doing this or have any recommendations ?

Man City (home)

So after today’s CL quarter final draw it appears spurs play Man City on April 9 (tues) with the return leg being April 17 (weds) so does that mean the game against palace is back to its original slot of Saturday ?

North vs South for music

I’m sure there’s been threads on this before. Been having this debate on twitter, and a fair few times in real life in the past. Seems ridiculously biased and blinkered to say anything other than the South (although plenty of northerners have managed it). You can have personal opinions on bands you prefer (I’d still comfortably pick South), but the record sales don’t lie, and 2 minutes of research shows me that of the 38 British acts to sell 50 million or more records, around 27 were Southern. 5 from the North, few from Birmingham and Wales. So, personal opinions on which side of the country’s music you prefer, and any counter arguments to the cold hard facts of popularity?

Paul Scholes - The Manager

Another great example of a great player proving they don't make good managers?

Has just resigned after a month at Oldham, 7 games and only 1 win in that time. Says its because he can't manage the way he wants... Some suggestion the owners were sticking their noses where it doesn't belong. Hardly gave it much of a chance though for a boyhood fan!

To think there was a big song and dance made to allow it to happen to.

Who is Black Man ?

Waiting for a delivery . . . . .

. . . . . is really boring. I can't go out, dare not do anything noisy in case he rings and goes. So I am just sitting here, one eye on the front door and one on the screen . . which isn't easy.

How is everyone? It's been a while since I posted here.

If you're interested, I retired two weeks ago, sold my van and am now without transport until Sunday when I pick up a new car. I under-estimated how inconvenient that would be :(

To all my customers on the BBS, thanks for all your years of custom. I did send out mass texts and emails saying about retiring, but it seems not everyone got them, so apologies if you are one of them. PM me and I'll give you the details of a guy I can recommend to take over.

I miss our Racehorse BBS drinkies we used to have. I hardly see any of the old crowd now, especially since The White Horse changed hands after Danny. Never realised how well-off we were. Everyone would come in there at some time during the season, now we are lost souls, roaming the streets of Selhurst looking for a home. I miss the away-days, too :(

We have just started using The Victory Club, we will have to see how that goes.

Oh well, maybe see you around :hi: (Where is that bloody parcel!)

Songs with the best endings

So we've had a thread with the best opening riffs, here's one with the best endings. I'm interested to see if somebody else puts up what I think is the best ending to a song. Here's an example, I think the last 15 seconds or so of this R.E.M. song is great.

Paedophile Hunters.

mercredi 13 mars 2019

I've been watching a few of their videos on YT recently.
I'm not sure if they're a good thing or detrimental yet.
The likes of Dark Justice have a softly softly approach but then the likes of Shane Brannigan seem over the top.

Here's 2 examples..

That was Dark Justice.
This is Shane Brannigan...

I'm not sure about this sort of vigilantism.
If you watch more of these videos it's obvious some of these suspects are backward. Some of these vids have helped identify the families of the suspects and have caused them much trouble.

I'm not so sure that these paedophile hunters are doing more good than harm.

Thoughts?

John Smout RIP

A Palace fan has advised me (from the Exeter City website) that former goalkeeper John Smout has recently passed away aged 77.

Although only at the club for the 1965-66 season he was back up to both Tony Millington & John Jackson, playing regularly for the Reserves and London Challenge Cup sides.

His only first team appearance came in the home Division Two game against Cardiff City on 4th December 1965 when both Millington and Jackson were unavailable through injury or illness.

It was also a dramatic occasion as, having suffered an injury to his ribs in the first half, John was stretchered off in the fifty-fourth minute after diving at the feet of a Cardiff player. In those days of no substitutes Brian Whitehouse went in goal and the match finished as a 0-0 draw.

In the summer of 1966 John left the club for Exeter City where he played for two seasons before returning to his hometown club of Newtown in Wales where he became player-coach.

Best season in the Prem?

Not this one, obviously. So which has been the best? They've all been patchy at best, but I'd have to go for 2014-15. Not just for the 10th place finish, but the general feeling of optimism by the end.

Relegation statistics - 12 March 2019

Here is the latest relegation statistics table from Simon Gleave, (Head of Analysis at To view the link you have to Register or Login):

He comments:

"Wins for Cardiff, Newcastle, Brighton and Southampton haven't changed things that much. Huddersfield are now 100% to 2 decimal places (ie at least 99.95%), Fulham's chance is 99.91% chance. 34-36 points likely to be enough to stay up so probably one win secures it. Palace are projected to finish on 42 points."

What would be a perfect end to this season?

lundi 11 mars 2019

Beat Watford in FACQF
Secure PL status for a 7th consecutive season
Beat B****** or M******* in FACSF
Beat the W****** in FACF

This would make it the GREATEST season in CPFC history.

That is all.

Time to move on

Saturday’s defeat was a low but far from defines our season . Yes there are issues with tactics at home but we can still make this into a great season.

Win on sat we might even get an opportunity to avenge brighton in a semi final.

We were in some good form before Saturday. Not the game to under perform in but don’t let it deflect from bigger picture.

All energies towards Saturday now, if anything I feel more confident as team have a massive point to prove .

Trust in lucky ones going to get behind the team.

Believe.

Great number plates

Saw a number plate yesterday in Chichester that must belong to a Palace fan. It was CP55 ZHA.

I'd love to have that.

Palace v Watford in York

Any Northern based Palace fans watching the match this weekend in York, or any recommendations for a decent pub to do so?

(There is a pub there called The Crystal Palace, but when I was there a couple of years ago it was not showing any sport).

Cheers

No one has mentioned our penalty

Andros was clearly going down before the contact. Is it only me that has seen this? Not even the weed picked up on it.

Adds to a poor refereeing performance yet again. The challenge on Luka, the penalty that Dann should have conceded, the penalty that Andros won. All game-defining moments, and all wrong.

When fans invade

dimanche 10 mars 2019

Thought we needed a dedicated thread for pitch invasions now it seems to be a common event again. What’s going on?

We had the Hibs fan last week jumping onto the sidelines to kick the ball from the Rangers player, then square up to him. The Grealish punch yesterday followed by yet another pitch invader this time at the Arsenal Man U game, pushing Smalling. Whatever happened to the days of the peaceable streaker whose only motivation was exhibitionism?

Is this just coincidence or is it the case that when you have one of these types of incidents, it kind of triggers the possibility of it in the mind of the slightly unhinged, inebriated and suggestible, and so copycat incidents are inevitable?

Back in the day this triggered the inhumane fences to go up, but I guess now the onus will be on the stewards to be more aware of the possibility.

On another note re. the Grealish incident; the guy was cheered and applauded off by thousands of Brum fans. Made me wonder; for example had someone run on the pitch on Saturday and clocked Knockaert one as he brandished his disgusting tongue at us, would that fan have also received a similar ovation?

The lost art that is the long diagonal ball....by Crystal Palace FC...

...no, not hoofball.....the long diagonal ball, previously played to Bolasie (over the top) during Pulis' reign and on to Benteke's head during the Pardew era... (his goal at Everton away springs to mind)....

We seem to overpass, move forward too slowly and over think every attack.

The diagonal pass on the break is commonly used teams in an around us...Burnley, Brighton, Southampton, and teams above us such as Leicester and West Ham, with great affect.

We are not good enough for tippy tappy football.

Im not saying play Benteke, or expect Zaha to run onto every ball, but come on Roy, we need to mix it up a bit.

Crofty diagnosed with colon cancer

Fellow BBS'ers.

I have very recently been diagnosed with Bowel Cancer and my nurse advises me to tell everyone. Given that I look in here every day it seems churlish not to include the Palace community.

I am having a sigmoid colectomy (don't ask!) on Tuesday at Kings and I am told that I will be out of the loop for up to 3 months.

The result yesterday hasn't lightened my mood!

Up the Palace!

Mike Croft

Luka on set pieces

Has to stop. Penalties he can stay on of course but his corners are a joke. They either don’t beat the first man or they miss everyone. On the rare occasion he gets it in the danger area, it’s a floated ball causing no danger to the defence.

Surely makes more sense to have Townsend or Meyer on the corners and Luka can use his size and strength in the box!? Corners were wasted so much yesterday that I’d have rather just given them a goal kick every time.

Little bit of legal advice needed - car issue

Having been driven crackers by the missus and other members of my family pointing out where i've gone wrong. I'm now turning to the BBS for my next bit of advice, mainly because i haven't got time in the week to explore different courses of action.
I want to go down the legal route of reclaiming my money back after being stitched up by a warranty company (and possibly to some degree by the car dealer) but i've no real clue where to start. Whether it is straight to a solicitor, Small claims dispute, citizens advice etc.
The car is eventually back on the road and now fume free, but despite the slippery warranty company claiming the issue of a knackered turbo wasn't covered, i believe that they have been negligent and completely uninterested in deeming it had a fault. Their appointed company passed it twice before it was eventually condemned as damaged by a second opinion from another independent company. Resulting in a re-build and the standard labour costs for stripping down and re-fitting the turbo to the tume of about £920
For pretty much the last two months i have been going around in circles with first the warranty company, then the dealer who managed to involve the warranty company's area manager. The dealer is now the only contact after the area manager has gone to ground without a word of explanation as to why they are not prepared to pass the claim, other than an offer of £200  The dealer has offered to raise this to £500 for some reason (possibly as he made a fair bit on my part exchange), possibly through guilt. But has also told me i'm welcome to go the legal route if i so wished.
The wife reckons for my own sanity it might be worth taking it and writing off the £400 as experience but having juggled work and doing my level best to sort everything amicably, i feel i'm being shit all over and £500 is an insult. Just wouldn't mind being guided in the right direction for the next course of action.

Bicycle Kick

I find it very strange that a Bicycle Kick is now synonymous with a Scissors Kick. In my youth a long time ago they were entirely different things. The scissors kick was an overhead kick resembling the motion of scissors in which the legs are mostly straight, the bicycle kick was a method of hitting a ball which is off the ground and you leapt up and did a cycling motion and hit the ball. It was a very good method of getting over a ball that was off the ground. It seems to have totally disappeared from the modern game unfortunately, and it leads to players skying too many balls over the bar. Schlupp's effort yesterday would have benefited from such an approach.

Schlupp at left back

Surely we should be very seriously considering playing Schluppy at left back now. PVA has been absolutely dreadful for months - the clear weak link in the team. He was always better in attack than defence but he doesn’t seem to be competent at either anymore. Presumably a significant factor is that, since Schlupp has been repurposed as a cm, PVA has absolutely no competition for his place. Something surely has to be done because as it stands Patrick has no future in this team and we should be signing a replacement as a priority this summer.

I really don’t think we’re going to miss Schlupp in midfield either when we have Kouyate and Meyer on the bench.

twitter

Where are the usual suspects twittering so to speak now?

To be fair even with bad results a few come on with 'On to the next' or ' not good enough' bit strange not one said nothing yet.

Music at Selhurst

On a different note from what we just watched. Am I the only one who hates the music at Selhurst before the match? 😂
It’s diabolical!

Murray late inclusion

Surprised the late change to the Brighton line up didn’t get more reaction. Hughton was asked about it at his press conference and kind of shrugged it
off, fsaying something about an injury late on in the warm up. Ok, but it seems like a bit of sharp practice. Murray and the other player have different styles. Again, Hughton asked about this and gave a fluffy answer. Can imagine Roy was influenced by Murray’s original non-inclusion. The game plan, although sure to have been decided well in advance, is probably tweaked according to the opposition line up. I think Hughton was being disingenuous and had Murray in mind all along. I am sure Palace and all our fans expected Murray to start. You’re better than that Chris!

REMF

I have been a moral and financial supporter of Robert Easton Momerisl Fund , which does some good stuff in the name of someone who’s lost their life.

Sitting opposite the away people today, I was sickened to hear them singing the Cantona song. Being one of the metropolitan elite , I hope they, and everyone they care about, get murdered. As a musician, I. will compose an original song - a strange concept for the death glorifying twats from nouveau soccersville.

Darren Moore in the summer? (Just sacked by westbrom)

Good young manager , west brom 4th in the league, sacked . We should make an approach in the summer.

Certain Palace Fans after match

So on Twitter there are some pictures that were taken after the match. Palace fans were getting autographs from Brighton players, fans asking for their shirts and even one loser got a Brighton shirt, asked his son to put it on and then tweeted it saying things like ‘you are only rivals for 90 minutes blah blah blah’. It was embarrassing to see and summed up the day as a whole tbh.

Patrick van Aanholt

About time we binned this prat now. Awful player defensively and useless going forward now as well. Absolute liability for us. Must be someone in the youth team we can replace him with?

Suggested Team and Formation For: Watford (FA Cup QF)

Just came out of our biggest game of the season so far against Brighton and lost. Come Saturday, this one will be even bigger. What a game to try and bounce.

This is what I’d go for:

Guiata
Wan-Bissaka - Tomkins - Dann - Schlupp
Milivojevic
Kouyate - Meyer
Townsend ———————————— Zaha
Batshuayi

Hennessey, Ward, Kelly, van Aanholt, McArthur, Ayew, Benteke

Team Management v Brighton today

My biggest problem today was definitely team management and Roy. I’ve never really criticised Roy much but today I put him at fault for that abysmal performance. Starting off the match with Luka, mcarthur and schlupp in midfield, the defensive mindset you would expect when coming up against Man City or Liverpool, when you are playing an average side like Brighton is just so negative.

What I think makes this worst is three things:
This is a derby.
We are playing at home.
We have attacking creative players on the bench.

Not just that, but at around 35 minutes to me it was obvious what the next move was to do. Take of mcarthur and bring on Meyer. Yet this was only done IN THE 76TH MINUTE WHEN WE WERE ALREADY 2-1 DOWN. And then in an interview to say we had lots of the ball and was unfortunate not to make many goals. Well maybe if we had sako and Meyer on, we would’ve made goals! Not just that, but when we did have the ball, the passes were disgustingly bad from people like mcarthur and van aanholt. But I can’t really put that one on Roy.

Point being, I expected us to play to win a bit more by using the players we have, especially against our rivals. But hey, at least he picked Guaita 🙄

Glenn Murray

Diving, play acting twat.

Rip off Palace

Rarely do I come on here and moan about being ripped off, but being so pissed off I thought I’d take a look at the programme and I saw the advert for the “Annual Golf Day” £599+ VAT for a four ball.
As a keen golfer let me tell you what an incredible RIP OFF that is for many reasons
1) The green fee per person is just £25 per person so just £100 for 4
2) There is no VAT for golf green fees ( as made by law in 2014)

So that means our football club want to encourage it’s fans to a very average golf club ( Surrey National is nowhere near the best course in Surrey) and charge £719 for four £179.75 PP ( yes there is a prize and lunch ) but let’s say add £20 to to the green fee means They want us to pay £179.75p per person as against what it would cost as a normal visitor of £45.
WHAT A DISGUSTING RIPOFF off for loyal fans. Tell them to stick it where the sun doesn’t shine. Also they are suggesting to odd player will be there but we have a possible game that night at Spurs so that’s also bullshit

Palace - Brighton rivalry RIP 09/03/19

It's done.

Players dont give a **** and for the first time since that beautiful day in October 2002, it seems the fans don't either.

Handful of lads up for it, the rest tourists and rich boys from gentrified South London suburbs.

Sad times.

RIP the rivalry, I will forever remember the glory days (Im too young to remember the glory gorly days but even from the 5-0 in 2002 and Jobi in the last minute times have changed beyond recognition).

Total embarrassment today.

Meyer sub took 7 minutes to happen

Max takes his tracksuit off and stands up in the dugout.

Five minutes go by and he still hasn't come on. He starts leaning back against the seat behind him, in his full kit. They score. Houghtons calls a player out, they go straight on, no delay. Two minutes later Meyer comes on.

If he's coming on, he's coming on. Why on earth was he standing there, muscles getting cold, waiting. What were they waiting for?

Do you mainly associate Palace with, London or Croydon?

As a distraction from the Brighton game... And this is a genuine question.

Do you associate Palace more with London or Croydon (Surrey)? Sounds like a silly question but for me, as a 48 year old supporter who lived in London, I associate Palace with Croydon more than London.

When I was going to Palace every week (80s and 90s) I would go to Croydon before the game and there afterwards. Maybe that is influencing my view?

However, when the Crystal Palace was erected on Penge Common where Crystal Palace Park now exists it wasn't in the old County of London (which existed from 1889 to 1965), it was outside. Furthermore, every Palace ground including Selhurst Park has been outside of London until Greater London was formed in 1965, the same can be said for for Tottenham.

So historically Palace isn't a London club, we just became absorbed into London.

Why is this relevant? Sooner or later we'll have to move grounds to grow and we can't afford to get a new site inside the London postal area so moving out into Surrey is probably the best we can do. As we were founded and have been a Surrey club maybe taking that identity is the way forward?

Surrey's only league club inside a London borough (Croydon)?

Home incompetence has to end

Fed up of utter dross.

That was the drizzling shits today. A total farce.

We've been crap all season at home yet nothing new is tried and us who go every week just suffer.

The players should be ashamed of their "attempts" at football today.

Who is your MotM?

DreamTeam/Worst Nightmare owners

So if the US owers are looking to sell what is your best and worst alternatives?

Best - SP staying with a benevolent billionnaire who can provide top price sponsorship to boost the coffers and is prepared to spend on infrastructure and give Sainsburys the value of the land (or even a bit over) to get the stand moving.

Worst - SJ returns backed by a shadowy untraceable set of money men for somewhere where local laws can be flexible if you have the right contacts money but who get shot/arrested/vanish 3 weeks after the ink is dry on the contract.

Most likely of course is another set of US investors still thinking you can make serious cash from "soccer" in the UK.

Who is already buzzing with excitement?

It’s three hours until kickoff and I’m already impatient for the game to start and have been for hours beforehand. It feels odd because I’m weirdly feeling confident for a change.

BFS on Comic Relief Apprentice show

Anyone watch this on Thursday and Friday night?

He looked like he didn't want to be there, and offered virtually nothing to raise cash, except for a signed Brazil shirt to be auctioned on the night.

He was criticised by Sugar and others for not finding any "millionaire" players or others in the world of football to pledge any cash. He said, well this is London, and I don't know anyone around here. Then I thought, you managed Palace and West Ham recently, and yet you still haven't got a contact to cough up? What about Parish, he's worth a few bob, but then I thought, well you resigned and so perhaps he is not exactly enamoured with the you at the mo. Whatever the reasons he struck a lonely figure, and seemed disinterested and uncomfortable throughout the entire programme.

Crystal Palace could play first game at Tottenham's new stadium!

BBC News:
To view the link you have to Register or Login

Tottenham will play the first competitive fixture at their new stadium in the first week of April.

Spurs were scheduled to move to the new White Hart Lane stadium in September but construction has been delayed.

They will run two test events in March and could face Crystal Palace at the venue in the Premier League on 3 April.

However, if Brighton lose their FA Cup quarter-final against Millwall on 17 March, they will be the opposition for the stadium opener on 6 or 7 April.

The Benteke Problem

The problem we have with Christian Benteke, whether you like him or not, is that his contract is said to be expiring at the end of next season. If true, I am surprised we paid £28m for a player and only gave him a 4 year deal, most deals are 5 years at that level. Maybe it is 4 years with a 1 year option?

Whatever the case, this can only go one of three ways. We either try to sell him, offer him a new contract or he runs his contract down.

Currently, his stock is low and nobody would want to pay big money for his fee or his wages. I'd be surprised if we got £15m for him baring in mind his type of striker (Giroud and Llorente) are not in demand these days.

So, we try to give him a new contract. He is rumoured to be on over £100k a week, he isn't worth that at the moment so it stands to reason we'd offer him less. As he is currently 28 (his turns 29 in December) this might be his last chance at a big contract so I think he would turn down less money than he is currently getting.

So this only leaves what I think will happen and that is that he will run his contract down so he will get to the summer of 2020 as a free agent. Doing so will mean he can sign for another club on a big deal as the signing club will be saving millions on a transfer fee and we'll lose £28m in the process.

Even if he plays a blinder next season and makes the Euro squad for Belgium unless he signs a new deal he will walk for free.

Do you think we should just get what we can for him this summer use him while we can and let him go for free in 15 months time?

Vanishing Emails

I was working with two separate ongoing email conversations using Outlook 2016 on my PC (receiving and responding) this morning and suddenly the original emails received vanished.

I’ve checked Deleted, Trash, Junk and Achieve Folders, also all sub folders of the Inbox for the missing emails without any luck. I’ve also done an all folder search.

I’ve checked my iPhone mail and iPad mail and no sign of them there either. I even contacted the sender to see if they recalled them for some reason, which they did not.

Google has not been a lot of help, only really covering what I already tried. I have to believe the emails are .pst files and must be somewhere including a server with the host (AT&T), but not having any luck in that regard either.

Not really a huge problem as I have the original embedded with sent emails from when I replied, but frustrating none the less.

Anyone got any suggestions or had this happen to them?

Anyone got a link to see how many yellow cards we have got .In regard to possible suspensions for quarter final game

attendances at Selhurst 1967-68

Just came across a copy of the Crystal Palace Football supporters Club Official Handbook of the 68-69 season which looks back on the previous season (67-68) It has 112 pages of brilliant reading and information. Even the ads are worth reading for nostalgia's sake. The page on attendances that season was well worth the read. Some of you might find it of interest.

We were one of only three teams in Div 2 that season to have a 30,000 plus home crowd on more than one occasion. 38,006 v Q.P.R and 30,304 v Millwall.

Our average gate was 16,126. In that season there were 69 matches played at Selhurst Park.

20 reserve team matches. Average crowd was 708. Highest attendance was 1,087 v Norwich.
A London challenge cup v Tottenham 3,537
Sutton v Leytonstone F.A Amateur Cup Semi final 10.096
England youth v Palace under 19's 654
F.A Youth Cup v West Ham 287 v Charlton 403 v Coventry 2,021
Surrey Youth Cup Horsell 203, Westfield 101,Kingswood 298
Junior Cup final v Chelsea 530(abandoned) and 759
Various School cup finals average gate 198

Also interesting to read that our under 19's went to Holland to participate in a tournament. We had a guest player called Malcolm MacDonald. Bet we wished later that we'd signed him up.

Is a fall in police numbers related to an increase in knife crime?

Not according to Theresa May yesterday when interviewed following a huge rise in knife attacks in London and elsewhere. Even the BBC last night produced a graph showing that as police numbers have fallen, so have violent attacks in tandem. However, both these reports are deceptively presented. When you single out knife crime alone, the startling rise in attacks beginning in 2014 correlate exactly with the drastic cuts in police numbers from 2014. To add some further meat to this, the number of charges for violent crime has also dramatically fallen, something perhaps not unexpected when you reduce police numbers and detection leading to arrests are more difficult to achieve.

The BBC reported on all this in January this year, but you have to delve into the text and tease out the information to get to the truth of the matter.

Here is the link:

The cuts in youth services due to austerity policies since 2010 also contributes to the problem in all sorts of ways. Is anything effective going to be done? Not when our own prime minister is in total denial and exudes complacency.

Pubs for: Brighton (H)

Any news on pub opening times and / or pub closures for Saturday?

squad rotation

lundi 4 mars 2019

Having now seen Some of roys reasons for the changes he made on Saturday Im actually quite heartened, before I continue I want to say one thing:

we all have opinions and are perfectly entitled to them abou the mrits or lacke thereof of players in our squad but what actually encouraged me is that we really do have a sqad with dcent competition. This thread is not, as too many are about the merits of some players over others

No its not 25 Internationals like the Mancunians or Liverpool but: Roy Hodgson is now in a position in areas to juggle. He has been able to rest one or two ever presents but also to play as he saw it what he thought would serve us best at Burnley, So he rested Andros nd Jimmythough they've done nothing wrong . Whatever the rights and wrongs he he brought in a bigger keeper patly as I suspect he thought Burnley would exploit our lack of inches as Man U did. I suspect he also believed having Kouyate meant we could cope in the height department while getting Meyer on the pitch. It also may have caught Burnley on the hop when teamsheets were announced.

Whatever. My general point is I dont think in our 6/ 7 years up we have the depth or enough people of the right quality available to have this luxury. It might over time have the double benefit of less injuries and less tired performances, even less late goals against.

Get used to it folks we may have more rotation in future

Small gin and beer fest help and ideas.

Good evening BBS. My local Legion club is holding a small gin and beer festival with possibly 8 or so different gins and around the same number of ales. Not having been to many of these sorts of things I am looking for some ideas and advice on what goes down well at these events. I think we have the actual gin and ales sorted along with a 3 piece jazz band. What other things have you enjoyed at beer tests or gin fests that we could include to make it a success. I look forward to your replies. Cheers.

The goals from: Palace away goals

Have just read an article in today’s Times by Bill Edgar entitled “The game in Numbers” which says ......

“Palace are on course to record the highest proportion of away goals in the top division since the leagues formation in 1888”

Currently we are at 71.4% the previous highest being Man City in 2006/07

Amazing but as a season ticket holder (who just 4/5 games away a year) how I wish it was the other way around :wallbash:
