Banning sexting

mercredi 30 novembre 2016

At sixteen you can get marries, have sex but Jeremy Hunt wants to ban you sending a picture of your cock to your wife.

Banning something doesn't stop it. It just creates an administrative burden for the state and a consequence for the people who do it. Horny teenagers like sex and you can't stop that

New England manager. Confirmed.

Mods don't be afraid to change the titie

Eddie Howe, Sean Dyche or Garry Monk

Why does no one think we could get any of those three? Especially when the other option is Big Fat Sam...........

Both Bournemouth and Burnley are a long way off being able to sell a player for near £30M and buy one in for the same.

The club backs their managers is patient to a fault, will pay a big salary and has funds and wages set aside for the January transfer window based on last years cockup as referenced by both AP and SP.

They'd get to work with a couple of French internationals, a Belgian international, an England International some AfCon internationals and some blokes from Wales and Scotland

Plus we've got some big American financial muscle, 40K seater stadium plans, nearly a million people worth of catchment area, a strong academy system plus we got to an FA Cup final so there's definately the potential there.

The club has the potential to challenge for Europe with a tiny bit of defensive solidity added to the spine of it and some additional tactical nous.

Why does everyone think we are Charlton circa 2005/2006?

Old songs (and anything else) that Alt.rights would want to ban.

We know what elitist, authoritarian nut jobs the alt right, UKIP etc are.

So what are the whinging about and banning?

Defensive or midfield???

So talk sport today they were pondering how our very rated defence let in five goals?
But to my mind it's the small midfield infront on them missing a real big defensive midfielder like Jedinak that is falling to protect the defence allowing the opposition to target our left back and pull our defenders around and out of position!

This week's solution from Pardew for Southampton is ....
Tomkins. Dann. Damo. Ward.

I still think the opposition will target our left back position as it was being done even last season after Christmas.....Kelly = Pardew's latest excuse for losing.....

Favourite Christmas Carol

What's yours and do you sing 'em?

Mine has to be 'Stille Nacht' and when I get the opportunity I do sing, as I can hold a note or two.

Will be singing this and others at my company's Christmas carol service soon.

Old songs that Soc.libs would want to ban.

Found myself humming along to 'Lola' by the Kinks the other day when it was played on the wireless and it set my old grey matter fizzing about what a fuss the Lemon suckers would make of it if it were to be released today. I am sure that KoW would be dialling 999 to report a 'hate crime' whilst demanding a safe space should it be played at the East Thurrock Polytechnic end of term disco.

And I hate to think what they might make of 'Brown Sugar' by the Rolling Stones.

All suggestions welcome. Might be a compilation album in this!

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

Victor Moses

Just won PFA Premier League Player of the month.

To think it wasn't that long ago people were debating whether we should resign him and whether he was good enough.

Fair play to Conte getting this out of him - would never have thought he had the discipline in his game to perform at wingback but he's been a revelation.

Kudos to him.

How to get a response from the club via email?

I emailed the club on Monday 21st November and again yesterday about the brightness of the new supporter facing advertising during the Man City game but have had no response, does anyone know a better address than customer.service@cpfc.co.uk to contact the club on for matters like this?

Thanks

FLAMINI

Maybe this has been discussed elsewhere but..
Knowing how vulnerable we now are at defensive midfield - Why has Flamini never been started ?

Zaha should be given a free role

He was our POTY last season. He will walk it again this season. How can we honour him, and help him to enjoy his football even more? WZ, out of all our players, deserves it. I say give him a free role, without any defensive responsibilities. No doubt he would still track back, such is his love of our wonderful club. But let him drift wherever he likes. Get him on the ball, left wing, right wing, just off Benteke, in the channels, it doesn't matter.

This guy deserves the freedom of Selhurst Park if not the freedom of Croydon. SIGN HIM UP TO A NEW CONTRACT. He deserves every penny.

Love Pardews's cardigan!

What else is Pardew to blame for?

Following on from the "Is Pardew to blame for the injury crisis" thread, I thought we should see if we could get a list of what else he is to blame for:

1) Global Warming

Pardew thread tracker

A new thread, just to keep track of how many different Pardew-out / discussion on managerial situation threads there are on the front page at any one time (not counting this one of-course)

As of now : 7

(Actually it was 6, one was about ditching all the players, not the coaching staff)

Is Pardew to blame for the injury crisis?

In all my years of supporting the club I have never known so many players to get injured as have done during Pardew's reign.

We were doing just fine with Alex Manos and Scott Guyet. Since we blew £2 million on new medical staff last pre-season it's all been downhill.

2015/16 pre-season Pardew went on record saying he was changing the way players were doing pre-season and their fitness training. Since then we have had injuries left, right and centre.

We seem to have more medical staff than ever (a doctor, 2 physios & fitness trainer) on the bench each game, but we look more injury prone and unfit than we ever have.

Idiomatic sayings

I thought we could have an interesting thread on the origins of some common figures of speech. Generally they are used in a metaphorical sense, I wonder what their literal meaning and origin was.

One to start with all the rumpus over AP.

'Busted Flush' - where does that one come from? We all know that metaphorically it means that someone/something is finished with no hope of a come back. But where did the expression come from?

Toxic !

Pardew has to go before the weekend and the players will play better without him!
Tactics.....he doesn't have any! So nothing to miss if he goes!
The players are playing for us and their group pride....this will be helped if Pardew is not in the dressing room! They celebrated with us not Pardew when taking the 3-4 nearly winner!
We all know it's over for him why bring it to another game or prolong it in anyway!
Just get rid and gave our players the chance to show us the real spirit still in the group!
Keith Millen for this game then the the new boss for Hull!

New words for O E D

Following the issue of the Pulis papers, I've been thinking about some new words for the Oxford English Dictionary:

1. Pulis. A fraudster.
2. Parish. A person with the ability to stop a "pulis" whilst having a shampoo & set at the hair dressers.
3. Pardew. Meaning some one who tries to win football matches without having a defence.

Feel free to add to the list.

Par-dewwwww !!

Keep AP

There was story's going around on Saturday , that a players dad was talking to fans in a pub, the dad said AP had lose the dressing room. The player is a midfield player and was not to far from home.

However if AP has lose the dressing room, I don't think the players would have got back to winning the game.

My view is that the backroom team are just not good enough, Maybe if we could get someone like S Clarke in to help AP out, He could turn it around, When you look at our goal keeper coach, would you really see him raising the bar for our keepers,

The rest of the staff have any got Premier experience?.

We need to stand together but review the people who should be helping AP out, on his day he can be a good manager at this level.

We can still make mid table this season, in fact if we win our next two games then we are back on track, Yes Saturday was painful, VERY PAINFUL.

Brazil plane crash

lundi 28 novembre 2016

Looks like a plane carrying 72 passengers including Brazil football club Chapecoense on their way to play a game in Medellin

Clean out the lot of them

Very emotional post by me after a demoralising loss on the weekend. I had that one down as a win, I just assumed the players would lift knowing how important the game was. The fact they didn't shows that they've lost all faith in the manager and for me that's all the proof needed that a change needs to be made.

Analysing the current squad, I can't help but feel that any new manager that comes in is going to face an uphill battle saving the side from relegation. When you go through player by player, you see how desperate times have become:

Mandanda - Average, nothing more than that.

Scott Dann - Average defender who masked his deficiencies last season with goals but now they have dried up, is being exposed. Questionable whether he is a keeper next season.

James Tomkins - Probably one of the only quality players we have. Unlucky with his injury at the start of the season but a quality football, technically gifted and a leader at that. Definite keeper for next season.

Cabaye - Nowhere near the player he was for a brief 6 month period at Newcastle. Was exposed at PSG, exposed for France and is now being exposed here. Has aged quicker than anyone I have seen and unlikely he is here next season so not a keeper.

McArthur - For me, the best player in the side just ahead of Tomkins. Hard working, inspiring, plays with his heart on his sleeve. If the rest of the side had the drive that he and Tomkins have then we wouldn't be in this mess. 100% a keeper, good shout for captain too.

Puncheon - As many have pointed out, he's a Pardew favourite but doesn't offer much. Once Pardew goes, he will go too. Not a keeper.

Zaha - Decent player, looks like he was developed well at the back end of last season. I'd keep him but he needs to prove this isn't just a purple patch he is in.

Benteke - Good player, will be kept. Think he needs to do more but good enough for now.

Ward - Boring player, a sign of the times that he is relied on at Palace. Won't be kept.

All of the other remaining players aren't even worth mentioning.

I am so angry :wallbash:

Woy Woy

I'm currently on a train in Australia, travelling from Sydney to Gosford. We just pulled into a town called... "Woy Woy".

It's a sign, a sign I tells ya! An unsettling, terrifying premonition of what's to come.

And before anybody moans about this thread, please understand that it's the official Roy Hodgson thread now. Please feel free to discuss all the ways that appointing Woy Woy would be an unmitigated disaster.

You're the manager

Just a little bit of fun to get away from the doom and gloom. Everyone fancies themselves as a bit of a tactician, so how about we do a little game, you're given the job as palace caretaker manager, tasked with getting us through the next few games, you've got to have a plan to pick up points in the next few games BUT the owners have told you, you could be their pick/around longer if 'their man' is unavailable, start by picking a system and some players and build a way to grind out points, but have half an eye on January targets and a longer term system.

Have a go!

Network web history

Is there a way of checking what websites other people have been visiting on the wifi network?

I am on EE broadband and have logged in to the 192.168.1.1 page and have been trying to find a web history of all websites visited by users in the house but can't seem to find the option, does it even exist? Trying to check what websites the kids have been on as their internet history which we check regularly is being carefully deleted.

Southern Rail strike called for 13th/14th December Man United game 14th December

A planned rail strike by Southern Region has been called for the 13th and 14th December.

The Man United home match is being played on the 14th of December which will greatly impact on the size of the crowd as many fans rely on the trains to get to Selhurst Park.

Major problems if the Rail strike goes ahead.

Planet Coaster

Anyone else playing this? The true successor to Roller coaster Tycoon 3. It is amazing. Its like a cross between RT3 and City Skylines in terms of the customisation and workshop support. You are only bound by your imagination!

2016 - A S**t Palace Year

Since we beat Stoke 2-1 away just before last Xmas, we were all getting a serious PL nosebleed.

How times have changed.

This year is the worst since the double relegation period in the mid-70's.

We could be doing SO well but best ever squad on paper has lost

It's on pitch leaders (Mile and Sleepy Damo!)
It's defensive drills
It's leadership (Pardew and his crew)

The togetherness as a squad is there, as shown in recent games. BUT, we are not being led and coached properly. Confidence is draining out by the game. Fortress Selhurst, is now more like comedy corner. Yet we still turn up to watch, because it is OUR club.

CPFC 2010 has to now reassess its management investment...and fast!

We will get relegated without sorting our defence out, and sadly, after we fans have given Pardew and his team the benefit of patience, his ship has now sailed in my view.

Failure to prepare, is to prepare to fail, as Benjamin Franklin said. We have failed to prepare defensively for 2 seasons now. We are now seeing the results.

New Defensive Coach Please

Lots of hoo haa about Pardew but for me buck stops with defensive coach. What the **** are we doing - the goals vs Swansea were laughable and the defence should be ashamed.

Who is the defensive coach and tactician and when did he come as hes shit and should go immediately.

Zaha should be the club captain

Everyone says that it doesn't matter who is captain on the pitch as the leaders will talk. Well, that being the case, let's make Wilf the captain. Of all the first teamers he is our longest serving player. More caps, more love for Palace, came through the academy. Let's show him that we care about him and do everything we can to keep our only true world class player at Selhurst Park. (And give him a new contract on 100k a week - we simply cannot afford to lose him.) Let's do all we can to keep him here for as long as possible.

Some ranted on Talksport - split from thread from 2015

Just discussing Pardew on Talksport (yes I know it's a shite station but so is the choice).

Ray Houghton is so predictable and cliched but otherwise the consensus is Pardew never takes the blame for poor performances, dating back years.

Suggestion: Jordan Amavi in January please

We desperately need a left back in January. Realistically most teams in the Premiership and abroad are going to be unwilling to let their players leave half way through the season. This is a £9m player, who Villa fans rate. He's playing in the Championship, so available, especially as Villa won't be going up this season. He was rated as better than Souare when the 2 were in France. He has come back from a serious injury and grabbed an assist at the weekend. Offer £10m and we'd get him. We must do it because failure to sign a decent left back in January could contribute to relegation.

Mandanda, who is currently out with a knee injury suffered on international duty, has added to the current chaos at Palace by making himself available in the transfer market.

“I had wanted to change and discover the Premier Premier League,” he told French TV. “I am not disappointed. Go to a bigger club in England? That depends on my performances.”

Q&A with Kevin Keen and Richard Shaw -all welcome

There will be a Q&A with first team coach Kevin Keen and U23s coach Richard Shaw on Monday 28th November at 7.00pm in the Malcolm Allison Lounge. They are guests at the Supporter's trust AGM but all are welcome. The Q&A will be first and you can leave before the AGM or stay as you wish.

It would be nice to see some people there as this is one of the few times that the club provides the chance for people to ask questions of people at the club these days.

Intriguing comment from Pardew yesterday

After the game yesterday Pardew said " I think the group understand that we have some options, we can change the team around".

What do you think he means ? Different formation (again) ? Current players to play in different positions ?

Any thoughts ?

Why does Pardew hate our Academy?

Herein lies part of the problem with our position.

We had a decent left back cover in the youth set-up with Binnom-Williams and Scales. Both would surely have been a better shout than forcing Kelly there. Instead they were both sold in the summer.

Every other Premier League club plays youth when needed.

Why has Pardew not given youth a chance?

Ruzzle

Is anyone else addicted?

Would you renew with Pardew in the championship

I expected a decision either last night or some time today on Pardew , it seems Parish is happy to see the run continue .

So who would renew or get a season ticket for 17/18 with Pardew in charge if we were in the championship.

What will the yanks do if we are relegated

It is known that the yanks do not like Pardew for a variety of reasons and the only reason Pardew is still employed is because control freak Parish likes a lap dog yes man as manager - which is why Pulis did not work out.- this also applies to BFS who is very much is own man. However the yanks paid a lot of money for what is a controlling stake in terms of the percentage shares held and if Parish persists with Pardew and we are relegated then the yanks will almost certainly use their majority shareholding to remove Parish from the decision making process.

Delaney at left back?

I'm prepared to be shot down for this, but while Souare's out injured, would it be the worst thing in the world if we played Damien Delaney at left back? He used to play there for Hull and QPR as well as Ireland.

Transfer window in hindsight

Was our transfer window all that good? No evidence so far that:

Mandanda is better than our other statues
Tomkins is any better than Hangeland
Townsend as good as Bolasie
Flamini is a viable replacement for Jedinak
Remy will ever be capable of completing 90 minutes

The only improvement to the squad is Benteke, and he was brought in at the expense of Gayle who it looks as though we let go too cheaply.

The squad has not noticeably improved. Am I the only person that feels like this?

Managerial Suggestions, Howe/Dyche/Karanka etc

They are not going to come here at this stage of a season if at all for a relegation dog fight that would most likley end up in relegation and destroying their reputation as well, anyone who thinks so clearly has no idea about the game at all. Brendan Rogers is employed in his dream job enjoying CL football every season and guaranteed silverware, De Boar has just left the Italian giants and whose next job will be with a huge club, Mancini wont come here, for every so called up and coming European manager with zero PL experience let alone a relegation dog fight think of Solskaer,Magath,Hyppia,Remi Garde,Jol,AVB,Meulensteen, Avram Grant, the list is really very small who will come here and it will be managers out of work or maybe Chris Coleman, BFS,Woy maybe HR or Nigel Pearson, please offer more sensible suggestions chaps!

Please keep Zaha on the right

If Wilf is arguably our best player at the moment, why should we move him out to the left, where he becomes less effective ?

To top it all, he surrenders his position to Townsend.... who hardly changes or affects the game ! I could understand it if Townsend was ripping it up week in, week out, but if he was then he would be starting.

Just can't understand why we move our best player every week ? :(

By all means 'turn' on Pardew

None of us are happy with the current state of affairs, but some of the comments on here and social media are totally uncalled for. Yes, Pardew and the players do seem to have lost the plot, but let's not forget that he has also given us some good times and perhaps doesn't deserve quite the level of abuse he is currently getting. Just a thought ;)

Why do we concede so many free kicks

For a team that is unable to cope with dead ball situations , we seem to give opposition plenty of opportunities with needless free kicks , corners etc . From what I can see , we have lost the art of tackling . Our midfield is too lightweight and even on rare occasion that they win a tackle is goes straight to opposition . Dann & Delaney are giving more away then ever , Tomkins looks bit soft to me and cant jump thus gives free kicks away . Kelly is just not good enough or left footed and looks like he will foul all the time .

'I can’t defend my defenders'

I know some of you cant stand the CA and I'm sure the quote is elsewhere but this comment really grates. Why cant he, just for once, say he get it wrong instead of blaming everyone else?

Crowd yesterday

I have not posted until now as I was so bloody angry and the train journey home I just sat there in shock

The fans yesterday were IMO the real hard core of the support and a lot of people from the 30 years of following Palace home and away were there so these are people who follow the club through thick and thin and are normally up beat and to see this support turn on the manger I think speaks volumes and only leaves Parish one option and he has to act now.

I can honestly say the last time I was this angry over a game was Millwall when Punch scored a hatrick against us for Millwall absolutely disgusted with the team today

So I will leave you with the song Palace fans sang when arriving back to Paddington last night as it sums up my mood this morning

Al Al **** off Al
Al Al **** off Al
**** of Alan Pardew !!!!!

Time to sack........ the captain??

Convinced much of pardew is to blame for coaching, tactics, system etc but he can't do it on his own, he needs leaders on the pitch as well, to gee up players, organise etc. Clearly we have missed Jedinek and an able Damo, and I'm wondering if Scott is still the man for the role and whether he just needs to focus on getting himself back to his previous form and fitness.

Jimmy Mac would work better for me at the moment.

You know things are dire...

When you are begging big fat Sam to be your next manager! :lux:

Pardew's criminal record in the transfer market

Makes for shocking reading.

Sako - large spells where he's been unfit. Accusations of not trying in games (eg. Villa away last season) and personal issues with his weight - MISS

Mutch - signed when unfit and has never fitted in. Wants a move - MISS

Lee - publicly fell out with Pardew. Said he wanted a move in the summer. Victim of public shaming by Pardew last week. - MISS

McCarthy - brought in to be the new No.1. Didn't end too well & no longer at the club - MISS

Townsend - brought in to play on left despite preferring the right. Doesn't fit in the team. MISS

Flamini - has played 8 mins. Clearly not rated - MISS

Remy - signed when injured. Never featured & costing ££££ every week - MISS

Mandanda - still alot to prove but he does have Woodman coaching him - JUDGE STILL OUT

Tomkins - still alot to prove. At fault for 2 goals today. Looks far off being a long-term replacement to Delaney - JUDGE STILL OUT

Benteke - still alot to prove - JUDGE STILL OUT

Cabaye - been a massive disappointment on the wages we are paying - JUDGE STILL OUT

Souare - only signing that could be called a success

Loans:
Bamford - the less said the better - MISS

Sanogo - the less said the better - MISS

Ameobi - had a good attitude but was past this level - MISS

Adebayor - glimpses of quality but lacked goals - MISS

Serious questions need to be asked about Parish too as a couple of these (Sako and Townsend) were his recommendations.

Whatsmore we've only signed 2 defenders during his reign, despite offloading Mariappa, Hangeland, Hunt

Relegation Avoidance Calculator

well here is a thread that no one wants to see again but after today it looks like it may be relevant. I've gone through the remaining figures and set down the type of results that we are going to need in order to get to 39 points (which should be safe). Less than 39 points should probably be OK as well so falling behind target isn't too dire but better safe than sorry. We therefore need a further 28 points

These are not predictions but should give some idea as to where we are bearing in mind the difficulty of the fixtures and the fact we seem to have a run of difficult fixtures followed by some easier looking ones.-

Pardew vs Warnock

Interesting that since that press conference last December where Pardew said Warnock "didn't do very well" at Palace, we have been on our worst run for 50 years.

So, who do people think is the better manager of the two?

I'd have Warnock back in a heartbeat over Pardew.

Parish..do your job!

Fire the manager....nuff said!

We have over stayed our welcome.

And it's time for us to go. I really think after watching today's game, our time is up in the premiership. We will be back in the championship next season and it doesn't matter who will appoint as manager.

We have the players

We have the players to survive another campaign if picked back up and managed right even players like Kelly could be bought back to life.

We have a squad who could easily sit 10th to 13th at the end of the season.

We know where the problem lies and lets hope this gets addressed (not having a bash but it's glaringly obvious)

In the right hands we have a good squad.

Swansea defeat proves we are over rating the squad .

Maybe now some die hard Pardew fans will admit we sold underated players for overrated ones ?

Pardew sacked

His gone

Goals Conceded: Who is to Blame ? Name and Shame !

Today, there were so many defensive errors. After looking at all the goals again here is my assessment:

1) Goal 1: Puncheon makes a silly challenge. On another day it may not have been a free kick but everyone know how lethal Sigurdson is ..so expected a goal. That said, Hennessey has to take some blame. It was on his side of the goal and he seemed to wrong footed.

2) Goal 2: All the corners were coming because Kelly was struggling. Loriente got ahead of Dann. I think Dann should take the blame here. Cabaye could have done better on the line and Ward was also slow to cover Fer who scored from the rebound.

Goal 3: McArthur lost the first header and then Ward to slow to react. Dann's body shape was poor.

Goal 4: We should have been slowing down and killing the game but Montero made mug out of WArd and Puncheon while Townsend was just watching. Loriente got in between Dann and Tomkins and even after Hennessy made a good save ..Dann/Tomkins were not as alert as Loriente.

Goal 5: Tomkins missed the header. Maybe a more imposing keeper would have come and claimed the high ball. Once the ball bounced, Benteke was in poor position and Dan/Tomkins were slow to react and the ball fell to Loriente.

Against Manhester City, we played well ...first Mcarthur then a combination of Kelly/Townsend and then Tomkins could be blamed for the first goal.

2nd goal was just shambolic and I cannot figure who to blame.

Against Liverpool...I think Dann and Tomkins were each guilty of the 2 goals from corners while Ward/Mcarthur could shoulder some blame for the first goal and misunderstanding between Tomkins and Dann for the 4th goal.

We can see the pattern.
Dann - Delaney is probably a better combination than Dann- Tomkins. Even with Delaney- Tomkins combo which was used against Sunderland and Everton we did not lose a match or concede from corners.

In my opinion, while Delaney is getting on and lacking pace, he is better at defending set pieces. Delaney is also a better leader on the pitch than Dann.

It will be interesting to see how our defence is organised for the next 2 games.

Remember the days.....

...not so long ago when Palace's defence was never really an issue but they couldn't score for toffee at the other end? WTF has happened that they now have no problem scoring but defend like a really bad schoolboy team? I can't put my finger on it, much as I try. The only theory I have is that, despite many saying Jedinak was over the hill, he was in fact the glue that held the team together and orchestrated the troops when they were under the cosh. Sorry, but I am really struggling to come up with an answer here. I haven't seen as bad a Palace defence for years.

On a positive note...

Last time we lost 5-4 we ended up getting promoted (at the expense of the team who'd beaten us 5-4)

Short term manager would be a big mistake

If we are a club that matches the ambition of the American owners then a short term panic appointment is not what we need.
Big Sam, Harry Redkanpp would be huge mistakes...they may have an initial impact but would lead this club on a longer path of ruin....Redknapp would insist on breaking the bank to solve the clubs problems and Allardyce would bring media baggage that would potentially undermine everything that he attempted to achieve.....apart from that they are not good managers.....
We are in trouble yes.....we have a manager who is deluded and misguided in his decision making and tactically inept and naive .....for these reasons the club needs to start again with its management structure........but at this moment in time we are not in the relegation zone and we do have good players.....if not good defenders.....so the panic button does not need to be pressed......
Chris Coleman may not be as impossible as some might think to encourage to give up the Wales job.......we wait to see the outcome of the Southgate situation...could be a surprise there.......Hughton is a very good manager......is there more to come from Karl Robinson after his MK Dons experience, what about Johnson at Bristol City...bright and original in his thinking and attention to detail with a good transfer record..........What I am saying is so called tried and trusted managers are not the answer.....they will demand long contracts based on reputation alone, they will lack hunger and will not take this club forward to the mid table PL club we need and aspire to be........

Suggested Team and Formation For: Southampton (home)

-------------------------Mandanda------------------------------
Ward---------------Dann-------Tomkins------------------Sako
---------McArthur-------Cabaye---------Puncheon------------
---------Townsend------Benteke--------Zaha-----------------

Fryers on for Kelly

3-1 down and this happened! You couldn't make it up!

4 goals out of 5 from set pieces is dreadful as well.

We've scored 21 goals (only the top 4 teams have got more) but we've conceded 26 (only Hull have conceded more)!!!

Live games

We are live on TV loads in December , could this be the end of Pardew ?
Some hard games Man U , Chelsea ,Watford plus Arsenal on New Year's Day .

Don't think Parish would want the added media hype with these defeats putting more pressure on Pardew . The tabloids have now got it in for Pardew, after successfully stopping stories coming out about his personal life they will make sure he gets the boot.

Decision for Parish and Harris

Obviously the Defence is why we are having this period of bad results ...Pardew main error was not signing a left back. If we wanted to move up a level as they all spoke about(AP and SP).
We should have 2 decent premier division fullbacks. Spurs for example have 4 very good fullbacks. The whole Souare situation has made the back 4 unsettled. Also although Tomkins done ok, coming in hasn't helped, poor management with the whole Delaney situation maybe from AP. Dann hasn't stepped up as a captain in my opinion. Wayne also when he plays scares the hell out of back 4.

A combination of all these things is the main reason, we are where we are.

The manager has to take responsibility for the above yes.

Question for Parish and Harris is does this grant him the sack today?
2 wins and we are in top half. To change him for next match in my opinion would put extra pressure on players, for example in the next game against Hull. Which we MUST win.

If we don't win then a change is maybe needed.

That was the most Palace thing I've ever seen

Never seen anthing like it yet it feels so Palace. Grabbing defeat and humiliation from the jaws of victory. I think I'll show that game to my kids in the future to perfectly describe this club

Oh DEAR what can the matter be...

Palace losing every Saturday
Soon be down playing Brentford and Wed-nes-day
Nobody cares cos you're SHIT AAAAGHHH

New Manager needs to be ready for January window and appointed before Hull City match

Shambolic chaos football with no defensive structure under Pardew.

Inexcusable to waste more time with him in charge.

If we don't pick up points versus Hull then we could be Bottom at Xmas when you look at our fixtures in the coming weeks.

Teams bottom at Xmas go down.

We cannot allow a Manager who has failed to deliver an organised and effective side throughout 2016 to ruin our Premiership status and spend more money in January on players that his replacement won't want.

STEVE PARISH PLEASE ACT NOW AND SACK ALAN PARDEW so that we can set about arresting what has been a striking decline on the pitch since November 2015.

PARDEW MUST GO NOW . We are an embarrassment on the pitch.

He goes but then what?

It may well be time for Pards to depart from his position at Palace, but I'm very concerned about the rest of this season. We've perhaps got complacent, thinking we're an established club, spent A LOT of money in the summer and now face a very serious risk of relegation.

The fixtures you'd look to rack up points from which we've now played worries me greatly:
Swansea (a), Burnley (a), West Brom (h), Bournemouth (h) - that could easily be 9 points, we're way off being on track to survive.

Going down would end a glorious era of supporting Palace, an unprecedented time of stability in the top flight. It's pretty painful thinking about that fading away.

Where do we look to find a manager who can be a long term part of the club, give us identity, progression and re-build our confidence. We really need to pull together and drag ourselves out of this. A defeat like today will be very, very significant for morale, the management of the dressing room over the next week is probably equal too, if not more important than any other week since we got promoted.

Pardew in or out? The final edition.

Get this wand out of our club before he takes us down.

Poll to follow.

Thank you Super Al

With his departure now inevitable, here's a positive thread for Pards.

Thank you for the semi-final goal obviously.

But also for the exhilaration of 2015 - we honest believed the sky was the limit and it was wonderful. Liverpool away, Spurs at home, Burnley away and many more beautiful games.

Thank you for he cup final run - we got so close, but alas...

Sorry it didn't work out, but you remain a Palace hero, despite the last 11 months.

Good luck and I hope you can win that FA Cup you've always dreamed of.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Swansea (away)

Have just got my breath back - most amazing game I've ever seen Palace involved in. Poll to follow

Clean Sweep Required

Pardew Out. Millen Out. Woodman Out.

IMHO the answer does not lie in the signing of a new striker but a quality centre hal

"IMHO the answer does not lie in the signing of a new striker but a quality centre half".......posted 24th January 2016.......when all the talk was about signing a striker due to a lack of goals.....

I'm just a fan with no credibility so why is it that highly paid so called experts can't see the bloody obvious......

You can spend all you want on Benteke and Townsend........you can say all you like about Adebayor being the best striker ever to play for Palace Mr Pardew....but you have completely misunderstood what this squad of players needs with your simplistic tactics and naive team formations......Tomkins is not the defender we needed......not physically strong enough....not brave enough .....we have the worse full backs in the PL.......and have had for months......get the defending right before you start looking at scoring goals AP

Piss Poor

Apart from not being able to defend this goes back to not buying enough players in the summer

yes we duped some deadwood and yes we spent 50 million but we got in over 40 mill for Yannick, Gayle and jedi not enough net

now we are reaping the benefits

England Internationals in the Current Squad

We have four England internationals on the books who are all in their twenties and should be at their footballing peak.

Two of them are backup players (Campbell and Kelly) and a third doesn't look like they deserve a place in the Palace side (Townsend).

Is this a measure of how far Palace have come, or how far England have fallen?

Palace brighton - old tickets

There's probably a thread somewhere that these should have gone on, i'm sure someone will move it if necessary. Going through some old stuff found these (along with my away travellers club membership cards!)
Not sure what match the first one was for - no opponents or date on the ticket.
70p = around £5.60 in todays money!

Paul Stewart at Palace

Awful news about Paul Stewart and the other footballers who are in the press at the moment .I'm sure all palace fans wish him all the best .He has been very brave in telling his story .

In nearly 40 years of supporting palace .I can think of no one single Player who transformed the team as much as when he came to us on loan .

i havent looked up any Stats , but I remember from the time that He stood out as a class above any one in our team or the league .

if I am right we got Promoted that year and his goals , assists and overall play got us there .

Cheers to Paul Stewart

Keep seeing articles and adverts about this!

Some of the pictures and videos from the last couple of years are comical. People fighting over an iron because it's got a sale sticker on it :D

I'm personally hoping for some good online deals, want the Amazon echo but cant see that coming down in price anywhere.

What makes you the best Palace fan ever ?

mercredi 23 novembre 2016

So people's opinions are judged on certain criteria. I will provide my own Palace CV for scrutiny and for the BBS to judge whether I am worthy of an opinion. :D

Fistly, I cannot spill or punctuate properly so that makes my opinion void on all subjests in mitigashun, I have fat fingers

I had an ST for a couple of seasons in the early 2000's

I've been to niniam park and nearly ate all of one of their dog-pies. shittest food ever. and Palace lost, and it rained

I once shagged a Cardiff fan,...it was female,....and human,...and up the wrong 'un too. She had low standards too :D

I went to a midweek game at Selhurst against Crewe,...and we lost,...and it pished down all evening.
But there were bad times too,....:D

Please regale me with your stories of support that deserve a medal

Reacher None Jack

Actors who could play this character. Just saw Never Go Back, truly terrible. Tom Cruise, all 5'2" of him (I may be exaggerating) bought the rights and now acts as the 6'5" character and got me thinking who could do it better. My money would be on Ray Stevenson, Titus Pullo in Rome, he has the build, about the right age and has played an American accent before.
So go on, who's your choice?

Pardew's criticism of Lee

Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere - too many threads to keep up with at the moment.

I hate clicking on The Mail but I did when I saw that Pardew has blamed 'a sub' (Lee) for not giving over the message about marking Toure on Saturday.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

'The message with what one of our players needed to do, didn’t come from one of the substitutes to him. And that is not acceptable to me,' Pardew said. 'We will have to make sure that the next time they out there they wear a t-shirt with the message on it, or something. That is a little bit frustrating, if I’m honest.

Not the first time there has been public criticism between these two - I also thought his comment about the T shirt sounded particularly patronising.

Either way, it doesn't sound like a farcical way to drop another point.

Moved posts

It seems some of my posts responding to Les from earlier in this thread have gone missing.

There was nothing against the rules in them.

Can a mod explain please?

EDIT - It looks like the posts from Les have gone too.

Calendar year stats

If mentioned in other threads I have a bee in my bonnett about these (it's unhealthy and nerdy I know!) You all know the ones, the "5 wins in 2016", the "worst performance club in England 2016" and then the Geordies relate it to 2014 etc etc. I see how it appeals though, as the saying goes "it is easy to sell tickets for the ghost train" - and give the punters the scariest looking stats then it will sell more.

If people don't know already, I don't care. I care if we are one of the worst performing premier league sides this season, whether by not winning games, lacklustre performances, lack of clean sheets, a lot of which are true. This is where you can measure our form as what we did in the summer must also come into play.

And when judging a manager I judge his overall performance during his tenure, not an artificial cut of point. Then you see how he is has performed through good and bad times, and what has been done through multiple transfer windows.

Anyway, I know it's a small point in comparison to our defensive problems for example, but it was niggling on me and I had to let my point out. I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks it anyway!

One Punch Killer

mardi 22 novembre 2016

Did anyone watch this on Channel 4 last night?

I thought it was quite well done and worth a watch.

The young lad that was on Palace's books didn't come across well at all. He appeared to lack any real obvious remorse and he clearly rewrote the scenario in his head to justify hitting the lad that passed away. Unlucky certainly but you would find it a lot easier to feel for him if he wasn't quite so keen to remove any blame from himself.

I missed a bit of it.. what happened to the old dude that punched the bloke for parking in a disabled bay? I caught most of the story and clearly he was not telling the truth. i just wondered if he went to prison.

Football League Admin

Hi

Does anyone run a league from an admin point of view?
I mean keep the league stats on a spreadsheet?

I am taking over the running of one in Northamptonshire and could really do with a starting spreadsheet to tackle this

thanks

Blood test question.

Got to go and donate an armful tomorrow morning to be scrutinised for all sorts of potential horrible nastys. Test is at 8.00am so have been told not to eat or drink anything after 8.00pm this evening. But they also told me to drink plenty of water prior to the test.

A completely daft question, and feel free to mock, but does that mean I should only drink the water just prior to the blood being taken or can I drink water this evening after 8.00pm as well?

Samaritans film

Hi There,

I work in Comms at Samaritans where we're producing a film on male help seeking around our 'We Listen' campaign you may have seen on the railways. If you're interested in being part of it and are travelling to Swansea on 26.11 on the 9.25am train from Paddington let me know - j.sim@samaritans.org. You will only be in vision, no direct quotes or interviews and the resultant 2 minute film will be used across railway/football/Samaritans channels.

You will need to sign a release form.

Thanks

Jon

Ben Garner

lundi 21 novembre 2016

Curious to hear views on whether his departure last year is linked to our downturn in form. Must admit I knew little about him when he was here other than he was widely viewed as a highly promising coaching talent.

I understand he left after being asked to move away from the first team (presumably to make way for Salako) and into a new role linking the Academy/Development players with the main squad.

He was promoted to assistant head coach at West Brom this season after Pulis took him there last season, and their form this season with a fairly average squad has taken them into the sort of position we would (at least) hope to be in.

Fukushima earthquake

Hope beyond hope that this does not have the same levels of devastation as the previous one only years ago.

Jürgen Klinsmann

Figured we could hash this one out in its own thread, we have one for corrupt Fat Sam ffs.

You probably have all heard by now he is just out of a job. If not you have now, To view the link you have to Register or Login.

For a while there have been rumours that he is mates/favoured by the American board members. We seem to be at the peak of unrest regarding our current form and manager.

Is Jürgen your choice? What would he fix? What would he break? Would he bond with Zaha over diving allegations?

Pardew and Parish Conversations...

How do you think their conversations have played out during this wretched run?

Regional/local flooding

I may have gone on a rant about this a while back.
I see the Environment Agency are issuing guidelines to those people in Flood Risk areas.
All the Environment Agency (EA) Flood maps are out of date. Caused by a mixture of climate change and the increase in developments/roads/hardstanding, which prevent water taking its natural course to soakaway. Their advice is worthless.

And finally,....EA Flood defence measures do not protect properties 'up-stream of a river'. Well yes , they do. But it just moves the problem somewhere else further downstream, that wasn't previously at risk. It would be cynical/realistic of me to suggest more affluent areas were being protected at the expense of lesser value homes.

The Government/EA really need to sort their stuff out pronto. This carnage is only going to increase, year on year

New Mod

I would like to be the first to welcome Kipungu as the newest member of the BBS Moderator team.

New Players !

The wife and I always talk about the match after watching the latest game, and we have come to this conclusion time and time again.

How is it, that when we have a new player, example Sako, Mutch, Benteke, etc, that they always start of with their pants on fire, eager to impress no-doubt, and give us all 'hope', but only to as they get more into our training, their game style changes. They no longer run around like demented hungry players, but s-l-o-w down, and lose that attacking flair.

Their whole game seems to lose it's exciting go-go-go.. alright, I know we have our particular plan, but surly, let them play how they want to play a little bit..Another great example..Look how Dwight is setting everything on fire at Newcastle.. fantastic, we are soooo happy for him..

Many said he didn't have the Premier league skills.. that is bull... he is a good example of NOT, being given the opportunity to show it.. its no good putting him, or anybody on with a short time to go and expect miracles.. yea-yea, I know Connor is the exception, but in general it don't happen.. so, we killed his skill, and then off he goes to Newcastle, and plays like we all knew he can..

So, who's at fault...Alan... No, it goes deeper then that.. coaching staff..maybe.. players..yes, they have to accept that some of them at times play in a dream world..plus one or two are not our league material. So, to us , we are hoping that the next transfer window we can rid a lot of dead wood from the club, and get skilled players, with perhaps some new coaching staff. (new goalkeeper coach for a start, Jules old coach was great..why get rid of him) and KM is great, but------ time for a change?

Under 23-s bad run of form

The under 23-s have gone 7 games without a win , and won only 3 games all season.

I heard of clubs trying to play the same way all through the age groups but this is taken it a bit far.

And the under-18 are currently only a run of 6 games without a win

|Is the captaincy too much for Scott Dann?

For all the negative posters heaping pressure on Pardew, perhaps it is also time to have a look at the skipper on the pitch Scott Dann. I questioned whether he was the man for the job when he was appointed, so perhaps I am not as neutral on the subject as some others. Obviously he's a good player, and i felt after the Bournemouth equaliser that I needed to hold my hands up because that was real leadership. Since then though, he looks sluggish, he is not winning as many headers, and the defence looks all over the place. Is he the right man for the job? Or would it be better to put the captaincy elsewhere in order that he can concentrate on his own game and organising the defence? (This is not meant as a dig at Scott Dann by the way, but I feel it merits discussion.)

£369 million to repair Palace

Must have been a cracking meeting in New York.

Even Pardew could rebuild our team with that money, 3 new defenders, a replacement for Jerdinak and a creative player would do the trick.

The BBS, social media and all of that

The BBS has become a massive part of my (and increasingly so my sons' lives) being an amazingly convenient portal to combine news on Palace and the real world ! (much appreciation and thanks to Dave and all the Mods :)).

The speed of the internet and linking in with lots of other people is an extremely powerful thing (witness the 7/7 thread where people in the know were feeding in news quicker than Sky, the Southern thread that actually has drivers who know whats going on etc) and quite a few of us have actually 'grown up' together over 10-15 years + (the kindness on the Malarkey thread still one of the best things I've ever seen) and more importantly the chance to spar with people from different backgrounds and viewpoints that is an eye opener (not saying I've become a raging lefty but certainly appreciate others views).

That all said over the last few months things have got a bit rabid to say the least. I'm not necessarily talking about Brexit since I think we can all agree this is almost a uniquely complicated and divisive topic that has got everyone treating it like supporting a football team and will run and run for years, but some of the other threads have got really nasty and insults etc generally a lot worse.

Obviously this has always been part and parcel of the BBS and you do have to have a chin of steel sometimes but some of the postings over the last few weeks have been particularly vicious and quite a few people really should be ashamed TBH !!

There seems to be a general social media malaise (really stepped up post Brexit) in that everyone in the World now has an opinion and seems to want to discuss everything but will quickly resort to insults if someone has a different opinion to them etc - is this now the way of the world and am I getting too old :(:(

Guus Hiddink (serious suggestion)

I know people will think this is a ridiculous suggestion, but I don't see why we couldn't pull it off. If we are going to pay the likes of Townsend, Cabaye, Mandanda and Benteke £60k plus p/w then shouldn't we have a top class manager to get the very best out of them? (and the rest of the team obviously)

He's managed (successfully) in the Premier league, lived and worked in London, and taken smaller nations further than they have ever been in the world cup before.

OK, he's 70 so he's not a long term option, but if we could get him for 2 years, he could establish us as a solid mid to top half of the table team. This would hopefully open the door to the new manager after him having a lot more proven track record of being a decent prospect to keep building the club, rather than us having to look to the likes of a Coleman or Warnock type.

Surely with the extra money you get these days for finishing a place higher up the table, it would make more sense to pay someone like Hiddink more than what we may be paying Pardew, is a no brainer if he has more potential to finish an extra 4-6 places higher up come the end of the season?

Who would have thought that Benitez would go to Newcastle as his next job after Real Madrid? If they can do it, why cant we?

Flamini

OK. He's a bit old, but provided decent cover for the Arsenal defence.

Given our weaknesses is there an obvious reason he's not playing?

Leadership and Organisation

Couldn't find a thread relating specifically to this among all the Pardew out ones although quite clearly when looking at some of the comments, there is a growing consensus that the players themselves need to take responsibility for what occurs on the pitch.

I have no desire to slate Scott Dann but the evidence would suggest that his leadership and organisation skills are a bit lacking. I know that many on here want to lay the blame at the feet of coaches and management but the 2nd goal yesterday was probably one of the most abject pieces of set play defending I have seen at this level in a long while. The players are supposed to be talented, top level footballers and they are being paid vast sums of money which in any other profession would require significant levels of responsibility to be placed upon them.

Whether Scotty lacks the persona to do the job or does not command the respect of his teammates is a question for others to answer. However, it is clear that organisation and leadership is lacking on the pitch and that needs to be addressed. There has been a suggestion that Delaney should play simply because he appears to have these talents. Certainly Chelski stuck with Terry for longer than his footballing skills alone merited and although I don't agree with this part personally, many will argue that Jedi should have been kept at Selhurst for the same reason. But he has gone so please, no more BS about what we should have done in the past. Looking forward, should consideration be given to replacing the skipper and if so, who would you go with?

Remember when Pardew slated Warnock publicly for 'not doing a very good job here'?

Turning point

With all the doom and gloom of recent months it is important to remember that it was not always like this. Rewind to New Year's Day and we were flying, 6 unbeaten and chasing a European spot. So where did it all go wrong?

There are a number of small margins that, were they to be altered, could have changed our fortunes significantly. Bearing in mind that we seem to be very streaky, changing a draw to a win, or a win to a draw somewhere along the line could have been pivotal in making 2016 less of a nightmare year.

Bolasie's injury away to Stoke?
Zaha's late miss at 0-0 at home to Swansea?
Zaha hitting the post in the first minute away to Villa?
Hitting the post twice at 1-1 late on at home to Spurs?
Cabaye hitting the post in the last minute at 2-1 down at home to Watford?
Clear penalty not given at 3-2 down away to West Brom?
Borini's hit and hope in the last minute away to Sunderland?

There are obviously deep rooted problems which are impacting why we are losing games, but confidence/mentality is clearly one of them. I wonder which 'small margin' would have had the biggest impact on possibly balancing the negativity and downward momentum and might have stopped the rot in 2016.

For me, I think losing away to Villa was crucial. It was sandwiched between tough games to Man City, Spurs and Chelsea and a win would kept things ticking over. As it happened, we ended up on a run of 5 games without a goal, 14 without a win and the old "no win in 2016" stat started to snowball. Getting a par for the course away win might well have stopped the momentum before it gathered and set us up for a better 2016. Had Zaha scored in the first minute, I think we would have gone on to win that game quite comfortably. As we know, he struck the post, we looked impotent from that moment on, Villa grew in confidence and Hennessey threw the ball into his own net. And so it began...

What do you think was the most important 'turning point' that led to our disastrous 2016? I'm sure there are others that I have forgotten.

Happy Birthday Keltic Eagle!!

Match Ticket Information Man U @ Home - Aussie desperate for ticket.

Hi All,
I'm travelling to England from Australia this December, and I'm hoping to see an EPL game.
I'm only staying in London for a few days, so the only game i can really see is the Crystal Palace vs Manchester United game.
I'm after any advice you guys may have on how to get some tickets (or even if you think its possible at this point).
I've looked on the club site but it says I'll have to become a member. I'd be more than happy to do so, but I don't think there's any tickets left to purchase.
If possible I'd also like some advice on ticket re-sellers (e.g. Viagogo, ticket gum, ticket stub etc). I know some clubs are affiliated with certain resellers, but I can't seem to find any crystal palace tickets. My last resort is one of those scalper websites. I'd be fine with paying more to secure a ticket, but has anyone had any experiences with them?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
broden25

Suggested Team and Formation For: Swansea away

Would just like to say a few things before Im labelled as bonkers:

1) Townsend must play. He is one of our few pacy players. Where does he play for England and where does he want to play and where does he play best? Right wing. That's where he should play for us too.

2) Wickham must start. He's on fire.

-------------------------------Hennessey----------------------------------------
Ward---------------Dann-------------------Tomkins--------------MK/ZF/JP/BS
Townsend--------McArthur-----------------Cabaye-------------------Zaha
-------------------Benteke------------------Wickham---------------------------

I have no idea who should start at left back. Kelly is the safest defensive option. Not for a minute saying he would be a natural fit, but harsh on Punch to drop out of the side, and maybe he could play there and push on into midfield? Plus he has a left foot which could prove useful.

Discussion: Summer Signings

All a bit of disappointment so far ?

Benteke 6 Needs to up his game (obviously an improvement but £30m ? )

Townsend 5 Doesn`t look interested sometimes , and too easily knocked off ball

Tomkins 5 Switches off and looks bit slow

Mandanda 6 Okish but nothing special yet ?

Am I being too harsh ?

Townsend

Not impressed. Awful today, no surprise when he was taken off at HT. Even in his better games he seems to go missing for long periods. I'm hesitant to say give Sako another go, but he can't be any worse?

Dumb PS4 question

I have had numerous PLaystations over the years but never been a regular gamer. More an occasional player. In terms of games I have enjoyed (PC and PS3), Call of Duty MW2, Battlefield 3, Motor Storm and Deus Ex. Prefer playing vs computer although the option of something online is useful I haven't used them very often. I am not brilliant and so anything that requires massive game expertise to play is probably wasted on me.

Thinking of perhaps getting a PS4. So some simple advice please? I looked around but my question is too dumb I think to find a simple answer.

Are there different models and if so which is the best and why?
What are likely to be the best games bearing in mind the above comments.

Apologies for asking but all I can find online is desperation to sell me what they have.

The Grand Tour

Starts tonight, I understand. My children and I are very excited (although I need to get the internet connection to our family television fixed so we can actually watch it ...).

It seems to me that Danny Cohen unwittingly did the boys (including Andy Willman) a great favour - they can now produce a truly global programme to match the viewing audience they had built up during their tenure at Top Gear. Whether that is a good thing for the BBC is another matter.

Oh, and whatever happened to Danny Cohen ... ?

Finally this thread probably doesn't need that sort of contributor who doesn't watch a programme but feels the need to make a post telling us that, and why, they don't. Not that this will stop them.

Restoring vintage and classic cars.

mercredi 16 novembre 2016

I inadvertently took one of our regular threads a bit off track recently - rabbiting on about old Fords, during which I mentioned the Channel 4 series 'For The Love of Cars' fronted by Philip Glenister and based on the astonishing work Ant Anstead does.

I have known for some time that talk of a third series was ongoing, but in the meantime, they've put together 'The Lost Lotus: Restoring a Race Car' which Channel 4 are showing at 8:00pm on Sunday night. :p

Wayne Rooney

Interesting discussion on 5 Live about Wayne Rooney and his weekend indiscretions (he was out until 5am at a wedding party close to where the England camp were staying).

People seem to be divided as to whether his behaviour was acceptable or not.

Do BBS ers believe that:

a) As a highly paid professional athlete Wayne Rooney should not be out drinking until 5am, particularly when he is on England duty?

or

b) He should be allowed to let his hair down once in a while particularly as he probably knew he was injured and therefore unlikely to play against Spain?

Technical Tram Stuff

Thought I'd start a new thread to avoid those wanting to express their condolences. I worked for Croydon Tramlink as a Controller for several years, l left several years ago but feel competent to answer most general questions. All operational staff are qualified to drive and have to refresh their license
by completing a full driving shift monthly. I have spoken to several Tram staff and all are horrified by last weeks tragic event, they all mostly live in the area and have family and friends who travel on the system, as I do.
The Croydon tram is bi-directional, a driver's cab in both ends which are identical. The driver operates the tram by using the Traction Brake Controller (TBC) which he/she operates with the left hand. The TBC is usually upright and must be depressed to operate, any release of the TBC will result in the emergency brakes being applied after a couple of seconds. Basically it's a push to go pull to stop system, the further forward the TBC is pushed the faster the tram goes, and the same in reverse, if the TBC is pulled back the brakes are applied. The braking system is dynamic, in that it uses the electrical motors on the roof to transfer power to the brakes. There are also Track Brakes, basically huge magnets which lock on to the rail on each set of wheels which the driver can apply manually or if the tram applies an emergency brake.
The tram speedo is in kph and all tram speed signs you see are in kph, max speed is 80kph which equates to 50mph, which the trams are governed to not exceed. Permanent speed signage is black on a white background, temporary or emergency speed restrictions are red on white.
I saw a light rail "expert" on the news the other night talking about a button the driver needs to press every 30 seconds or the brakes would apply, no such thing, at least there wasn't on the trams when I worked there and I doubt they have been upgraded.
Again, this horrible event hits close to home and I am as shocked as anyone else, no one steps on any form of public transport expecting for this to occur.
Obviously I can't offer any explanation for this tragedy, I wasn't there and it would be unwise to do so. However I have driven trams, and trains too, and know how difficult it can be. Minds wander and we don't know what this particular man's state of mind was.
Condolences to all who are effected by this, if anyone does have any questions about trams in general please keep them here.
