New contract for Wilfred Zaha

vendredi 30 septembre 2016

The window is closed, the internationals in the squad are internationalising, surely now is the time to give our best player - the one who more than any other helped get us into the Premier league - a new contract.

Zaha is vital to the team and vitalising for the fans, he deserves to be in the top pay bracket. Time for the club to act and keep our star man for years to come.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Everton away

Great game and performance. Some good decisions by Pardew again. The tweaks at HT saw the same 11 become a real handful for Everton. I was impressed with how hard players were working and overcoming difficult spells. Ledley, Kelly and Delaney all had difficult spells but overall came out on top. Kelly made a lot of key tackles and blocks. Not pretty to watch but gets it done. Benteke's goal was ridiculous TBH.

Delaney's goal wasn't a super spot of Macca's run at all, the linesman gave it incorrectly for Damo being offside. Typical! He was well onside and it was a good goal. I can't see Macca made enough movement or distracted the keeper to warrant the decision but that all irrelevant. I had thought their FK was indirect as there was no contact but leave that to the refs in here as I dont study the annual rule changes

The BBS is lost without Glaziers Fan

Let's be honest we're all lost and dont have a clue how to start a ratings thread. GF is our god.

Jamie Carragher is utterly clueless.

Discuss.

For those who want it ... I'm afraid I missed the 1st 20 minutes putting the kids to bed. Sorry. Maybe someone else can up a better version.

A fine way to go nto the international break

Top half of table going into break - I will take that

Sky Friday Night Football and Rachel Riley

....as nice as she is to look at ........its not working is it!

The show is really clunky...... Carragher nearly tripped over too!

Too many cooks spill the broth i say.

Intelligent Rachel Riley is a football bimbo slag

What is that self obsessed stupid bitch doing on this show? A plastic Man U fan from Essex who is obviously getting told what to say or ask through her earpiece. Piss off back to your spelling and sums on Countdown with your piss stinking geriatrics.

And before anyone replies and says 'but you would though wouldn't you', seriously no I f*cking wouldn't. Rather stick her in my dungeon with my baseball bat. Hate women like her. And it was her fault we had a perfectly good goal ruled out.

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

Major California Earthquake Incoming?

This is obviously inevitable (and hopefully California BBSers are already prepared) but is it happening in the next week?

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Quote:

A series of quakes under the Salton Sea may be a signal that the San Andreas Fault is on the verge of buckling. For the next few days, the risk of a major earthquake along the fault is as high as 1 in 100. The United States Geological Survey has been tracking a series of earthquakes near Bombay Beach, California. This “earthquake swarm” is happening under the Salton Sea, and over 140 events have been recorded since Monday September 26. The quakes range from 1.4 to 4.3 in magnitude, and are occurring at depths between 2.5 to 5.5 miles (4 to 9 km).

Calculations show that from now until October 4, the chance of a magnitude 7 or greater earthquake happening along the Southern San Andreas Fault is as high as 1 in 100, and as low as 1 in 3,000. On the plus side, the likelihood of it happening decreases with each passing day. These estimates are based on models developed to assess the probabilities of earthquakes and aftershocks in California. “Swarm-like activity in this region has occurred in the past, so this week’s activity, in and of itself, is not necessarily cause for alarm,” cautions the USGS. That being said, this is only the third swarm that has been recorded in this area since sensors were installed in 1932, and it’s much worse than the ones recorded in 2001 and 2009. This particular stretch of the San Andreas Fault hasn’t ruptured since 1680, and given that big quakes in this area happen about once every 150 to 200 years, this fault line is considerably overdue.

PS4 500G + FIFA 17 £150 Still available...

jeudi 29 septembre 2016

PS4 500GB Blu-Ray console (Black C Chassis)

That's what to search for on Tesco Direct. Under the listing there is a promotion link for FIFA 17, hit that and add to basket. Most of the time it will say out of stock, but once in a while they seem to allow a few sales. You just have to keep refreshing.

Took me 20 minutes, but a mate has been doing it for an hour and had no luck so far. I think it's a bit of a lottery.

Good luck.

Edit. Make sure you have an account set up first with all account and delivery details ready, or you might lose the order while wasting time...

Match Ticket Information Ticket purchase question

I want to buy a couple of tickets for the home game against Liverpool, the rules of the match state that I need to be a member (tick) with 1000 points (non-tick).

Is there no way I can buy tickets unless meeting this criteria? Seems a bit daft that I'm a fan willing to buy tickets but can't because of this?

Mother Teresa a Saint

The pope declares this dead woman a saint because, according to this article by the BBC, someone prayed to her and a tumour was miraculously cured. Another source has suggested the person who prayed also put a picture of the new saint on her stomach (although the husband suggests there was no tumour to begin with). She then caused someone else to be cured.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

The medical evidence for these cures is non-existent. There's also no reason to believe that praying is the reason something else happens. I wonder if any Palace fans were praying to her on Saturday in the 94th minute just before Christian leapt to head the winner as Pickford removed himself from making a miraculous save?

But if miracles really do happen shouldn't the junior doctors be waving pictures of mother teresa rather than 'save the nhs'?

According to the Hitchens' book on this woman, she really only gathered the dying poor together in a building and left them to die with the only medicine being the equivalent of paracetamol. However, when she was feeling poorly, she booked herself into a very nice clinic with proper medicine. What was wrong with her own place?

Do people really believe this woman can do miracles?

Watching Palace in india

mercredi 28 septembre 2016

Does anyone know if they show games there. Mrs KM and I are going there and I want to watch the Everton game. Think we are in Delhi that day.

Managers we 'dodged'

The big Sam posts got me thinking of managers who we were strongly linked with but didn't come and we dodged a bullet.

There are a few obvious ones but the one that springs to mind right now is Craig Brown, who nearly got the big job under Jordan.

I'm sure there are worse, hit me with them.

BIG SAM

If we went on another bad run and were in relegation trouble and pardew got the boot.
Would you take Big sam?
I would in a heart beat.

Ambulance - BBC series

Saw this last night. Based upon this I struggle to see how I could work within that environment and believe you need to be a certain type of person to be able to contend with the broken bodies they encounter and the associated emotional fallout from the victim's friends and relatives.

Tremendously stressful in many ways.

20 Years Ago Today,September 28th 1996 ANOTHER SIX! Palace 6 Southend 1!

It happens again! Following our 6 goal "Royal" Show at Reading the previous Saturday,Palace follow it up with another 6 goal rout! At Selhurst against Southend.

The Palace scorers that day in following order were Muscat,Houghton,Hopkin,Veart,Dyer & Freedman.Having watched the highlights its no lie to say we could've got 10! That day!

Dyer & Freedman missed sitters at 1-0 up (although, surprise! surprise! Dyer was offside! :D Veart missed a easy far post header at 2-0 & for a keeper who conceded 6! Simon Royce made a number of good saves.

Ex Eagle Paul Williams pulled 1 back with an excellent header at the Whitehorse end.

Give us your memories of what must have been a game seen through disbelieving eyes! :) :lux:

MCC v the Champion County match - 2017

The Champion County match is an established fixture in the English season, with a strong invitational MCC side brought together to give the previous summer's best four-day side a testing start to the year.

Traditionally, the fixture was held at Lord's and always attracted a decent crowd. However, in 2010, it was decided to play the match (against the then County Champions Durham) in the UAE. The MCC justified the decision as an important means to "strike up a partnership with the Abu Dhabi Cricket Club".

Cynics might suggest that this fixture gives a handful of MCC and EDB executives an excuse to enjoy a bit of early season sun, at the other people's expense.

This year, the County Champions are Middlesex, the Club which shares it's home ground with the MCC. A petition has been started aimed at persuading ECB to relocate this match to the home ground shared by both participants.

It would be great if this match could be enjoyed by thousands of members of the two clubs rather than a tiny handful.

If you agree, you can sign the petition here:

Crystal Palace official calendars

I still have a Palace calendar from 2013 on the wall next to my computer which I turn over each month. I know what a cheapskate.

I thought I would list the players featured just to see how we have moved on, or not:

January - Wilf Zaha
Febraury - Jonny Williams
March - Owen Garvan
April - KG - Kagisho Dikgacoi
May - Dougie Freedman
June - Julian Speroni
July - Glenn Murray
August - Paddy McCarthy
September - Jonathan Parr
October - Darcy Blake
November - Yannick Bolasie
December - Mile Jedinak

So two still in the current squad, one on loan and two sold in the last transfer window.

I sure there are some classic earlier examples still out there.

Pardew favorite to replace Allardyce as England manager

I wouldn't be happy at all if Pardew left now to take over. I don't think it's likely but still - he's the favorite!

From Guardian live blog just now - The odds with all the bookmakers are supplied here by Oddschecker and these are the leading candidates according to the people at Paddy Power.

Alan Pardew 5-1
Eddie Howe 6-1
Steve Bruce 15-2
Gareth Southgate 9-1
Glenn Hoddle 9-1
Gary Neville 12-1
Jurgen Klinsmann 12-1
Alan Shearer 14-1

02 bundles and crapperoonie

Stoopid techie question cos I'm a luddite.

My cheap phone had a beer bath the other day- so I had to buy a new one for a tenner, which I bunged a tenner credit on.

I sent one text then got a message saying they had taken the rest of my credit and turned it into some bundle- giving me 1000 text messages, so and so minutes etc.

Its PAYG, but it says I have to use it buy the 26th October.

My only question is that I wasn't even given the choice that I wanted this, don't just take my ******* credit without asking..

I realise that its better value mind as if you just topped up, it wouldn't give you a 1000 texts- so i'm being a moany old ****.

but every time i send a text it sends me a text saying I have no credit, which is rather annoying.

Maybe i should stop being such a cheap bastard and get a decent phone..

Match Updates: England vs Malta

Obviously these are interesting times.

This would however be a time to blood some new talent.

I know West Ham are in the shit, but it would be good to see Mikhail Antonio get a run out next week.

Townsend, may be an outside bet to make the squad too.

Lucky in a way, that this is almost a gimme game

Pubs for: Everton (Watchin in Brighton)

Unfortunately I find myself in Brighton for this weekend for a mates birthday. Anyone know of any decent pubs in Brighton to watch the football where I wont be berated for being a Palace fan?

Forza Horizon 3

Set in Australia the new Forza Horizon 3 was released yesterday and it is a cracking racing game with great graphics and car handling.

You now have the ability to create your own Horizon Festivals and races to suit your tastes after you reach a certain level to open up this option.

There are 350 different cars in the game and many more will be added via DLC.

Forza at its best.

Palace No.9 Targetmen

Benteke is a proper old school number 9 and so far has fitted perfectly into our 4-2-3-1 formation, with his strength, aerial ability and link up.

I know it's early days but just searching through my memory over the years and it's hard to think of a better one, although I still think Mark Bright is ahead at the moment.

Here's some others to add to our list of targetmen of varying ability over the years:

Glenn Murray
Alan Lee
Shefki Kuqi?

Other than Glenn Murray & Mark Bright my favourite of these was Garry Thompson, proper hard striker. Overall though I guess it shows how far we've come.

Any others? I never had the privilege to witness the likes of McCulloch, Langley, Jones, Brown in the early 80's so have probably missed a few.

Andy Johnson's Magic Hat - new blog!

Hey everyone, despite the amount of Palace blogs/ Palace sites out there to feed you daily updates, news, player ratings and reaction; I thought I'd start my own.

However - this will be a little bit different (and probably not to everyone's tastes).

This blog will focus on Palace from a statistical perspective - looking at the numbers behind Palace's performance as a team as well as a look at individual players. This will be less of a week by week analysis and more trying to see the bigger picture. Stats are used more and more in football these days, but often misused, so I'm going to try to convince as many Palace fans as I can that they can be useful.

Anyway I have probably waffled on enough, please check it out if you fancy. Links to current blogs are below - will hopefully be adding two more this week - 1 looking at the summer transfer business, and 1 looking at the season so far.

What's not to like?

At the risk of being one of those positive sorts, having read a bunch of decisively negative stuff on these boards this past couple of months, I started to think about reasons to be cheerful (spoiler, there are more than three).

I'm struggling to find many things not to love about our club right now.

We're an established (or well on the way to being an established), Premier League club. If you'd said that to me 6 years ago, I would have literally laughed in your face.

We have a spine to our team that, thinking over the last 26 years that I've been watching (albeit youthfully), is very tough to beat. Mandanda, Dann, McArthur, Benteke.

We still have a South London flavour with Wilf in the team, still improving.

Our manager 'gets' Palace.

We've won three on the spin.

We have owners and leadership who 'get' Palace.

We have our warrior sorts in the likes of Delaney.

We're littered with serious international players, not Greg Berhalter and Craig Foster.

We're nowhere near administration.

We STILL have players who will come into the team and improve us.

Leaving aside corporate hospitality (ha!), and concourse facilities, I honestly don't know what more this club could be doing right now to make us fans happy.

So, for those negative sorts, can you fill me in? I seriously cannot help but smile every single time I think about our club right now. That's a rare thing in my lifetime, at least.

What age were you (and your children) when you attended your first Palace match?

I'm eagerly waiting the day when I can take my daughter to Selhurst but at the age of nearly two, I think it's a bit too soon. I'm interested to know when you first went to your first match and then in turn your children?

Me: 11
Stepson: 8

('New') Holmesdale Stand originals

How many on here were the original ST holders for Ron's new Holmesdale stand?

I remember having to wear a hard hat and go and pick out a seat. It was just a coulke of weeks to the start of the season and they looked a long way off the building schedule. In the end, much to Ron's annoyance, they had to relocate the Holmesdale ST holders to the AW for the first game of the season (Barnsley I think).

When we were finally allowed into the stand, I loved the view though it was a bit quieter. I chose the back row of the Holmesdale upper so I could stand up through the game.

Arnold Palmer

dimanche 25 septembre 2016

He was the king, his impact on golf was enormous and in many ways he is the Godfather of modern sport.

I had the pleasure of working with him for 15 years. Always a man of the people, I am sure even here on British football forum there will be a fair few who met him and have a story to tell

Great Palace Comebacks, and late late shows

After yesterday's heroics, it got me thinking of great Palace comebacks (or late late shows from yester year) A few Spring to mind.

Walsall away in 2002 (a few days after the 5-0 win over the weed):supergrin: we were trailing 3-1 after about 50 mins before Freedman and an AJ brace (to complete his second hat-trick) saw a superb comeback. One of AJ's goals on the night was world class.

Notts Country away in 1992. (Who I believe were managed by Warnock at the time) We were two nil down before cookie stabbed home a late goal to go in at the break a goal behind. Mark Bright levelled matters with a near post volley, before Nige saved a Mark Draper penalty, and Mortimer completed the comeback with a looping header into the away end.

Bolton away 2000. Bolton were a good team at the time, and always seemed to turn us over, and this saw the debut's of Staunton and the second debut of Freedman who had returned to the club from Forest. Trailing 3-1 with just minutes to play, Freedman and Morrison scored late goals to level matters. I'm also sure this came a matter of days after Alan Smith publicly criticised Morrison and put him on the transfer list (I may be wrong on that one)

Blackburn in the play-offs deserves a mention. Trailing 3-1 from the first leg, we comprehensively won 3-0 after extra time to secure our return to the top flight.

Sheffield United away September 1995? Sure we were 2-1 down with a matter of minutes to play and Deano popped up with a brace (one being a stunner) to complete a thrilling comeback.

Any others?

Can a ref give a free kick for dissent

Well apparently in Gloucestershire he can.

I'm guessing the 'proper' sanction would have been a yellow card so Young Away should perhaps count himself lucky (even if he thought he'd been fouled and, he was careful to point out, didn't actually swear). Perhaps the ref was bending the rules to better fit the situation.

But it made me wonder. Can a ref give a free kick for dissent?

Certainly adapted to CM better then I thought.

Francesco Totti

What a legend this guy is....250th serie A goal today and turns 40 in a few days.

He loves and lives his team and his city

I watched their last match against fiorentina, came on and after 5 minutes hit a 50 yard ball pin point to dzeko

There are very few players who are worth the money they earn bit between merchandising and his clear superior technical skills, Totti is definitely one of them.

Team for Everton (away)

-------------Mandanda---------------
Ward---Tomkins------Delaney---Fryers
---------------Ledley-----------------
------Puncheon------Mccarthur-------
Zaha----------Benteke-------Townsend

Subs:

Hennessey
Kelly
Cabaye
CYL
Sako
Wickham
Campbell

1) Fryers offers a left foot cross.
2) Cabaye needs a kick up the backside. The quality still remains. The attitude appears poor. Great sub to bring on too if closing out a game
3) bring in CYL if Zaha is unfit.

Wilf's injury

samedi 24 septembre 2016

It may be mentioned in another thread somewhere but is there any news on the nature of Wilf's injury?

Arsene Venger

TWENTY YEARS!!! Where are Kevin Keegen, Joe Royal, Brian Robson, Gerry Francis etc now? Got to hand it to him, in a world where the average life of a Premier League manager is 15 months he's managed to put Arsenal in the top 4 every one of those 20 years. Respect.

Crosses

For years now we moan about lack of crosses and the quality of them and suddenly we have scored 5 goals in the last 3 games all from superb crosses.

What's changed, the players or better training?

Pardew Manager of the Month?

Net spend £8 million.

Undefeated in September.

9 points from 9.

:lux::lux::lux:

Is Cabaye our Rooney

Just as the wankers look so much better without Rooney, have we now got the make the same decision with Cabaye. Love him as a player but he just seems to slow us down and we lose our main asset i.e. pace on the break. Not sure he fits the team and as has been shown today there are at least three better dead ball specialists

Would the leave vote increase if the remain camp had their 2nd referendum ?

I genuinely think the Leave vote has increased since the Brexit referendum as the Remains prophecy of economic armageddon has truly been exposed as far fetched to put it mildly .
If the bitter remain camp actually had their way and there was a re-run of the Brexit referendum , I can see them actually ending out with egg on their faces .

Railcard discounts possible.

It is possible to pay on the day to upgrade to First, £20 each way. In my opinion, Hull are the best train operators in the country despite being owned by FirstGroup.

The fixture is NOT confirmed yet, however I reckon Man City v Leicester, Liverpool v West Ham will both be moved for tele considering that two games (Man Utd v Spurs and Southampton v Boro) have already been moved for Europa League reasons. At these prices, it may be worth the risk.

Loyalty points not being added after club shop purchases (with season ticket)

Has anyone else had problems with loyalty points not being added after they have made purchases in the club shop.

Recently noticed that I haven't got any on my account for stuff I bought in August at the Bournemouth game and neither has my friend (who spent quite a lot that day).

We both have season tickets which we gave to the staff to scan - which they seemed to do. Has anyone else had the same problem?

CORPORATE HOSPITALITY - AWFUL

Being an old Directors Box season ticket holder of many years standing ( who declined to renew due to the exorbitant price increase ) I recently attended a match as a guest in the re-vamped Malcolm Alison Lounge. The new "matchday experience " is quite frankly appalling and far worse than dare I say it corporate hospitality at places like Millwall who are 2 divisions lower. For you £1600 a year there are on average 1 seat for every 5 guests in the lounge itself as most of the area has been taken over for diners -- who sit in a special roped off area - although due to inadequate demand for dining most of the space is unused. If you do manage to find a seat in the lounge section some old dragon then comes along and asks you to vacate the seat for someone else who in her opinion is more deserving of it.Throw in the overpriced beers and lack of any food ( unless pre-ordered in the roped off area ) and the whole matchday experience was an embarrassment for a premier league club.If Parish thinks that this is an improvement on what it was like before he is deluded.

Playstation VR

I know there's another thread on Virtual Reality headsets but I feel that the Playstation VR is the one that most likely to really take off, at least until it's competitors become more affordable to general Joe Public.

As much as I'm looking forward to it's prime function (the VR element), is it sad that I'm also excited by it's "cinematic mode". This mode can simulate a screen up to 226". Given the PSVR has very little "screen-door" effect, this will come in extremely handy if the Mrs wants to watch Strictly and I don't want to have to lug my Playstation upstairs to the spare TV

I received my confirmation today that it will be with me on it's release date (13th October). My question is, has anybody else pre-ordered?

Also, has anybody experienced it (Benzhiyi will have for sure) as yet?

Murder at the Station

Did anyone catch this on BBC2? It's a well trodden path, revisiting a murder conviction, given the BBC makeover. It's a charity 'Inside Justice' assessing whether they think there has been a miscarriage.

Was a good programme, but a couple of the 'characters' unearthed as sources had to be seen to be believed.

I still think the 'suspect' is probably guilty and feel a bit for the victim's family that this is all being dragged up again 8 years on.

Streakers from years ago

Does anyone remember the two girls/women who streaked at a Palace game? My memory is not great but I think it was a midweek game against Bradford in 2002? It was either the same night or very close to when Trevor Francis and Kolinko had a bit of a thing.

there might be another thread about this, sorry if so.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Southampton away EFL Cup

Meh, just got in from the game. It was a game that lacked quality from two teams giving some fringe players a run out, most of the game felt like a friendly. We kept the ball well at times but once Cabaye had the ball off the defenders he only had Zaha and chungy moving in front of him and so had to keep playing short sideways balls before some space opened up. sako, mutch, and Wickham were terrible.

Fryers did ok got caught out of position a couple of times also there were a couple of moments of hesitation but I'd put that down to a lack of game time and the the fact he had no real support from sako at all who appears to so immobile and heavy it amazes that he is a professional footballer.

Pros: Zaha, chungy, Hennessey all looked solid.
Negatives: Wickham looked completely lost and never challenged for headers.
Mutch: Forgot he was playing at times, never got involved in the play and bottled all his 50/50 challenges.
Sako: looks so heavy and immobile it's unreal.
Danns injury!

Everyone else played average.

Manspreading

An increasing scourge on the travelling public.

I am not a manspreader but am victim to it, if you are unlucky enough to sit in the middle of a three seat on a train between two spreaders then you may as well stand up as it will be equally as comfortable.

One guy this morning couldn't possible have extended his legs any wider and it almost looked painful. Is there some primal or physiological reason blokes do this?

I see in NY they are starting to put signs up asking people not to spread, it seems to me the only answer to this modern cancer on commuting.

At last a step in the right direction

I suggested something similar to this over 10 years ago.

I'm disappointed that its made up of loans as well as grants.

Now it needs to be extended so that in the poorer nations workers are paid to work by a world fund to build dams, houses, roads, pipes for water, then farms and so on and so forth.

Give a man some bread and feed him for a day, help him grow wheat and he can feed himself for a year.

There has been no effort made to do this because there is no profit in it. Well f*** profit. Do it because its the right thing to do.

Defensive Injuries

Looking like we have Dann and Delaney injured tonight. Let's hope they aren't as bad as they look, otherwise defensively we are f***ed

Ryan Innis - Arrested / Convicted / Jailed / Free

To view the link you have to Register or Login

WTF?? When did this happen? Hope he gets the help he needs and that the other poor bloke he beat on is ok.

Quote:

Ryan Inniss, from the Crystal Palace youth squad, has been allowed to walk free after admitting assault by beating.

A premier league footballer who was locked up after bottling a man in the head has been released from jail - just THREE DAYS into his sentence.

Ryan Inniss, from the Crystal Palace youth squad, left a fellow reveller soaked in blood after the attack and was jailed for 14 weeks after admitting assault by beating.

But the 6ft 5in centre-back appealed against the ruling and has been allowed to walk free after the judge accepted that he had an "underlying alcohol issue". (snip)

Peter Hunter, defending Inniss, told the court the footballer came from a troubled background, growing up with a drug-addict mother and a father in prison.

He said: "To become a professional footballer is not just talent, but commitment, hard work and dedication.

"He told the probation officer: 'I have no other skill set'. He accepts his actions have been stupid."

Inniss's mum, now in recovery, was in court along with his agent, Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish and the club's lawyer.

Judge Adam Hiddleston told the court Inniss needed to get treatment for his issues with alcohol.

He said: "He says he was so drunk he could not recall the events at all and his cautions for violent and unruly behaviour all seem to have occurred while he was in drink.

"He accepts alcohol has played a part in all his offending behaviour. Use of a weapon is utterly unacceptable and deplorable.

"Anyone, no matter how famous or popular, must accept prison will follow. Mr Inniss needs to appreciate that with success comes responsibility.

"He is in the public eye. He's a role model to young people. There seems to be an underlying issue with alcohol that needs to be addressed."

This was Innis's first criminal conviction but he was arrested and cautioned for common assault, being drunk and disorderly and resisting a police officer last year and a public order offence in 2011.

Judge Adam Hiddleston gave Inniss an 18-month suspended sentence and 240 hours community service at the hearing at Croydon Crown Court .

He has also been issued with an alcohol treatment order and banned from entering pubs and bars for 12 months, except for work or buying food.

WWE 2K

Apart from a brief go of 2k16 on the Xbox One I haven't really played a WWE game since the Smackdown vs Raw games on the PS2.

Really tempted to get WWE 2K17 for my PS4, but wanted to get the NXT collectors edition and it has already sold out on PS4 and when I was in Game earlier the guy said that it is sold out and they won't be making any more. Bit gutted. They have it for Xbox One but I don't want it for that so looks like I am stuck with the normal version when it comes out.

Anyway is anyone else getting the game or got the older ones and are they any good? The one thing I found from my brief go of 16 was that I really struggled to kick out of pins. :wallbash:

20 Years Ago Today,September 21st 1996 Reading 1 Palace 6!

Anyone remember this game? :lux: It was the start of a 20 goal blitz in barely a fortnight that led to the release of a VHS video called "Palace Score" that I still have indoors.

Off the top of my head, without checking Youtube,The Palace scorers that day were Tuttle,Muscat,Hopkin,Veart,Ndha & Freedman (Pen) Please correct if im wrong! ;)

The game also,i believe? Was the Debut in goal of "Clitheroe Kid" Carlo Nash,We were starting to score goals for fun that September after a slow start to the season, possibly due to the overhang of the last minute defeat to that C\/nt Claridges Shin in injury time in Extra time at Wembley in the Playoff final at the end of the previous season :veryangry

Give us your memories of a fantastic away trip! :lux:

Selecting Schools

Apologies for this dull dull dull thread but i am interested in getting peoples opinions. I went to see the London Oratory with my son last night. A school with a big reputation and undoubtedly great facilities and track record. In truth it took me back to all the elements of going to school that i personally hated, humourless strict teachers and heavily influenced by a pious version of Christianity which often feels like it has very little to do with love and forgiveness (I am not no longer religious but my wife and son attend church).

Whilst there the headmaster couldn't emphasis enough the importance of the value added figures as a measure of how a school is doing. Mainly i think because that meant that it put The London Oratory near the top and well ahead of the direct rival Cardinal Vaughan. However in reality it didn't place the school well in terms of the schools we are actually considering.

So are there any schooling experts or parents that have been through this before? What figures/stats did you put most emphasis on? What other factors did you consider? After having made the choices and your kids having started school, were there any other factors you would consider now that you never considered before?

Watching Palace in Aus - technical help needed please!

As the title suggests, I need some help from our Aussie fans who watch Palace at home on the TV.

At my home address, the only internet connection I can get is wireless - I cannot get a broadband cable or ADSL connection.

I have my mobile phone with Optus and signed up for the EPL deal. I explained to Optus - at length - that I only have wireless, and that I want to watch the games on my big TV, not just on my phone. I could have got a satellite dish account with Optus, but didn't want to.

They suggested I get a mini Fetch TV set top box, tether my mobile phone to it (where the EPL is data-free), and watch it on my TV that way. I got the box a week before the season started, set it all up, and it worked fine, until the day before the season started.

Then I started getting the message on the live Optus Sport channels that "you can't tether data from a mobile device to watch this content". I could still watch their preview programmes, but not the live stuff.

My wireless broadband account was with Telstra, not Optus, so if I watched the game via that, it chewed up my data. But I was able to connect the Fetch STB wirelessly to my Telstra mobile broadband and watch the game, without that "you can't tether data..." message, albeit it was not data free.

But my plan with Telstra was crap - only 8GB for $65/month - so basically after 2 games that was that. Having looked around I could get 200GB for $60 with Optus, so I spoke to Telstra about a better plan, but the best they could do was 50GB for $150, and they refused to deviate from that, despite me explaining what I could get from Optus. So I switched to Optus although on this plan the EPL isn't data-free, but with 200GB there is no issue over the amount of data the games use anyway, so I can live with that.

BUT... now I can't connect the Fetch STB to the Optus mobile broadband, as I get that same message about "you can't tether data..." etc. Even if I connect it to the Optus router via an Ethernet cable I get the same message.

I've called the Optus technical support line, and they keep saying the mini Fetch STB won't work wirelessly. I keep telling them it DID work wirelessly via my Telstra internet, and to stop telling me it won't work wirelessly when it offers me a connection either wirelessly or by Ethernet cable when I switch it on.

Ultimately this means I can't watch the games live, only "on demand" 12 hours later. On the one hand, that means I don't have to get up at stupid o'clock in the middle of the night to watch the games, but I WANT to watch them live; I'm HAPPY to get up at 2am to watch them, and watching it later just isn't the same.

The sales people at Optus basically mis-led me re the tethering to mobile info, but as the box only costs $5/month and means I can watch the game "on demand" later, I thought I'd just bite that bullet, as without it I couldn't watch anything other than on my mobile phone.

So my questions to any Aussies who watch at home: is there any way round this? Do I need to get a full size Fetch TV box? Is there a way I can connect the mini Fetch STB to my Optus wireless broadband box?

Any help appreciated! :(

Not sure how these stats relate to performance but according to today's Times after 5 matches Moan Utd are bottom in the league when it comes to distance covered during matches. Was just after some advice - we are in the process of selling our (central London) flat at the moment and rather typically our boiler has packed up and needs replacing. It is a conventional boiler (Glow worm) and given we are moving out don't want to throw too much money at it so would replace with like for like - the quote from the plumber we have previously used seems a little strong for parts and labour and wanted an idea of what they would expect to pay?

People recording themselves doing nice things

lundi 19 septembre 2016

And then putting the video online afterwards. Charity type stuff.

I find it annoying. Does this make me a bad person?

I saw one recently where a guy recorded himself buying a car for his grandparents. Great, what a nice thing to do. But why then upload the video to Facebook? Are these people so desperate for approval that they must share stuff like this online?

Or should I put this part to one side and just focus on the good deed? I just get the feeling that if Facebook didn't exist, these people wouldn't bother doing stuff like this.

Them there new fivers

Just got my hands on one of those new ladies.

Very nice, but a bit weird.

CPU Fan Error

Can anyone offer any advice with a PC problem I'm having please?

I have a PC that I got from Palicomp around 2-3 years ago. Lately on boot up, I've been occasionally getting a warning that says "CPU fan error". When this happens, the PC will make a series of beeps and go straight into the BIOS.

When this happens, the fan speed will initially come up with "n/a", and then soon after (around 5 seconds) come up with a speed reading. Once that happens the PC works fine. I had a look inside yesterday and all seems to be OK. The fan isn't clogged with dust and I made sure that the power cord was plugged in properly.

At the moment it doesn't seem like anything untoward is happening other than the error message - no freezing, no warnings about temperature or anything like that. I obviously don't want to disable the message in case I do have an issue later on. The fan seems to be working fine so I'm not sure buying a new one will solve the problem either.

Can anyone suggest a remedy?

Advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Now that we have named our 25 man squad - does anyone know when we are due to have our team photo for this season taken?

premier table after 5 games- no shocks!

All 7 clubs above palace are arguably the 7 who are head and shoulders above palace in terms of premier experience, squad and deep pockets.

All the clubs below palace are the ones I would now be disappointed if we didnt get 3 points, home or away.

West Ham really look like a crisis club. If you had to pick one club that will rise from its current position, its Leicester

I was pretty surprised to see how close the table looks after 5 games to how the bookies think it will end.

Do you know need to pay to support Palace?!

So due to work commitments I can no longer get a season ticket.

I have however decided to spend the money instead this season on going to a few more 'obscure' away games at grounds ive not done before. Everton, Hull and Stoke being my initial thoughts.

So 3 of us (all in similar positions) decide to book to go to Everton. Phone up to get tickets, and turns out apparently we need to spend £25 or £55 on a memberships. When I asked why, lady said it was to prove to I was a Palace fan. I said I have over 3000 loyalty points. Her response was it was now policy 'members only for away tickets too'. So decided to leave it.

I assumed she must have got something wrong - so have just checked online and yes, even the likes of Sunderland (where we sold under 500 tickets) is members only.

I totally get it for the likes the more popular away games like Arsenal. But making it members only for these others game that will not sell out is just pure greed from the club.

Anyway, wont be going now and thanks to the policy the away end will have less support for the team.

Is it me or is this totally bonkers from the club?

The Non-assist assist thread

dimanche 18 septembre 2016

A lot has been made of stats and especially assists over the last week or so, so thought it would be good to see how many times players assist without assisting. In the game vs Stoke, Zaha won both the free kick and the corner that we scored our first two goals from and Townsend took two players away for McArthur to have space to shoot.

Zaha - 2
Townsend - 1

Sloppy late goals

Great result against Stoke. However a clean sheet was missed with the last kick of the game.

Is it just me but games like Liverpool at home last season, FA Cup final equaliser by the w***ers seem to show lack of concentration until the final whistle. Very frustrating especially for the defensive unit.

Otherwise best game we've played for a very long time. Jimmy Mac was awesome today with Ledley. Our passing was slick and quick.

Where does Dann rank in terms of aerial ability?

Second only to Droy I'd say.

Dann needs a song!

Captain Dann DEFINITELY deserves a song. Coooome on

:lux:

Sunderland - Do you play Cabaye?

Pardew could have a big decision to make.

Assuming all midfielders are 100% fit (including Cabaye) do you put him in your starting 11?

Save Fabric

Great banner by the HF. Showed real show of support by real people who are preperaed to make the effort to display their feelings.

Many pictures were posted on the save fabric facebook page, all of which have now been deleated!!!

Are football fans not what fabric want to be associated with ? Do they think there club is going to be saved purely by twitter "slactavists" and their hashtags??

A real shame that fabric are shunning this.

Holding by Defenders

Heard something today , think it was on BBC about Shawcross ( who is a rock normally for Stoke ) who has been poor by his standards and in two minds how to defend set pieces - due to the new directive on holding . Just wondered why we have also looked a bit shaky , especially Delaney . Could it be that defenders are so use to stopping forwards by holding that they have forgotten the art of defending ( as in positioning and getting to the ball first ? )

Matt Clarke

I'm on a tour in SE Asia and a fellow tourist is ex goalkeeper Matt Clarke's mum.

Anyone like to share any memories of him and his time at Palace, that I could share with her? I'm sure she would appreciate it.

She says that he has always spoken well of Palace. He retired following his bad injury with us. Now lives in Leicester, has a couple of daughters and is in the building trade (doing what, I'm not quite sure, but could find out if anyone is interested).

Thanks

Free Internet Streaming

vendredi 16 septembre 2016

Does anyone have any good links to sites that show internet stream football for free or are those days over?

Thanks

Terry Fenwick

Maybe it's because I was young at the time or maybe it was because Fenwick was trying to fill Kenny Sansoms left back position at a young age but I can't remember him being really that good for us. So how did he go on to win 20 caps for England and have such a good career at QPR and Spurs?
No idea what he is doing now

Excel - Project Mgt / Gantt chart

Just seeking some advice from some of you experts, particularly anyone familiar with PM work.
I need to put together a fairly straight-forward timeline/ Gantt chart to supplement some project work I'm doing for a client. However, the timeline needs to be in Excel format to match their work processes.
So......I've got Excel loaded on my Mac and now seeking a cheap/free software download to help me. Seems like there a lot of options out there so just wondering if there are any recommendations from the BBS brain-trust ?
Suggestions welcome...thanks.

Pick any player past or present for this Palace team

Who would you choose?

I suspect a lot will go for the obvious choices, but worth considering what we would need the most and who would fit the best in the current setup?

I wasn't quite sure which forum to put this in. If a mod feels it fits another better than feel free!

For me, (and yes I guess it is on the list of obvious choices) Thierry Henry alongside Benteke and the rest of the squad would be a thing of beauty and Champions League. Simply unreal player and most natural finisher I ever saw.

UK visas for non-EU spouses – any advice or experiences?

Does anybody have experience of trying to get a visa for a non-EU spouse under the current rules?

The very nice people at the home office would only repeat what was on the UK visas website and before I start paying an immigration specialist (any recommendations?) I thought I’d consult the collective genius of the BBS.

My wife (non-EU) and I (UK citizen) married in the UK but have been living and working in Turkey for the past ten years. Current rules stipulate that since neither of us have a UK income, we must prove savings in our name above a certain threshold and demonstrate that we will have adequate accommodation in the UK.

Though we have savings, our hope is to put this money towards buying a house in the UK should our visa be granted. We can’t really buy a house when there’s any chance we won’t both be allowed to stay in the UK, and even if we did, that would take our savings below the required threshold.

Some years ago I believe that having relatives willing and able to house you was enough to satisfy the requirement for adequate accommodation. Does anybody know if this is still the case? I really want to avoid having to come to the UK alone, splitting up my family for six months to a year while I waste money on renting a place just to have an address to put on a form.

Have you or has somebody you know been through this process? Can you recommend an immigration lawyer/advisor? I’d really appreciate anything anyone can share.

Ref for Sunday

It's Craig Pawson he was the man in charge for West brom thought

This bake off show.

What is all the fuss about?

Now I like a cooking show like the next man but why all the hype and hysteria about this one? Never watched an episode because, despite appearances, always been more about the savoury than the sweet and people baking cakes is simply not my idea of a spectator sport.

But others obviously do and more strength to their mixing spoon for it.

What I am struggling with is why the 'news' that this show is transferring from the BBC to C4 or whatever is deemed to be of any national interest what so ever?

Does it break new ground in baking? I always believed that baking was more of a science than an art form i.e, you needed very specific amounts of flour, eggs and so on to ensure that your Aunty could make a nice Victoria sponge for tea on Sunday? And you could not help but know that a Muslim won it last year but once again, so what? Even I am not that prejudiced to think that Muslims cannot bake a nice cake so once again, I struggle to get the fuss.

So what makes this show so special?

Wingers

Despite having a very decent first eleven when fit , I still feel uneasy if either Zaha or Townsend were to miss a few games . We have relied on Zaha and Bolasie for so long and even on Saturday when we kept possession a lot better ( albeit against a very pedestrian Miiddlesbrough team ) our aim was always to get the ball out wide to the wingers .
I can only really think of Sako that can play wide , maybe Puncheon at a push . Just hope both Zaha and Townsend remain fit this season .

I hope people don't mind me starting a new thread about Pape's accident but I thought this was worth a thread of its own.
As following on from the clubs lead in donations, I think it would be great if we can, as fans, raise as much possible for the London Air Ambulance who are entirely self funded. They were instrumental in helping Pape receive quick and speedy treatment.

Hillary Clinton dead or does she always look that way?

Reports and videos of Hillary Clinton leaving her daughters apartment after her collapse on Sunday seem to suggest it was her double. She looks 30lbs slimmer, has a different gait, wore her bag over her right shoulder Instead of her usual left, wore a different wedding ring, index and ring fingers same length when she waved ( clintons are different lengths) and her profile was different.
Another story is that the DNC are discussing whether they can change horses midstream.
Now, don't shoot the messenger, her exit from ground zero was dramatic, and her health has been a big topic, but this is getting some coverage. T

Hanjin Fall Is Lehman Moment for Shipping

First off let me say I know next to nothing about shipping. Having said that I've been following the story of the shipping company Hanjin going broke for the last few days with interest.

Apparently there's about 93 ships, including 79 container vessels, stranded at 51 ports in 26 countries because the shipping company Hanjin can't afford the fees to let them dock. In total the vessels are holding around about $120 billion in goods.

And as this article is saying, people seem to think this is a big deal, and that the whole shipping industry is pretty fragile.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

On top of all of this - this British artist who makes films with "absurd scenes like a person dressed as a frog bouncing on a pogo stick in a puddle" is now stranded on a not docking container vessel and feeling "emotions of amusement to anger and incredulity".

To view the link you have to Register or Login

What the hell is going on? Could this be the start of a major meltdown with repercussions that extend well beyond the shipping industry, or will this disappear from my feeds in a couple of weeks never to be heard of again? And perhaps the bigger question is whether Rebecca can come up with a viral sensation centered around this calamity?

I'm just fishing for information from people that know a lot more than I do and generating a little discussion. Wish I could add more comment.

Next five games against bottom five

Our next five games (inc League Cup) against bottom five! Wet Sham and Soton, perhaps, surprisingly among those at the bottom.

This is a huge chance to kick on in, make a real statement about our intentions and start to fly, this season.

Of course, it's early days, and nobody seriously thinks those five teams or squads are the worst in the division, or that the three to be relegated will come from them.

But our last game and a half suggests that 10 points and progress in the league cup is very attainable.

Five poor games/results and I doubt Pards will survive.
