Does anybody have experience of trying to get a visa for a non-EU spouse under the current rules?
The very nice people at the home office would only repeat what was on the UK visas website and before I start paying an immigration specialist (any recommendations?) I thought Id consult the collective genius of the BBS.
My wife (non-EU) and I (UK citizen) married in the UK but have been living and working in Turkey for the past ten years. Current rules stipulate that since neither of us have a UK income, we must prove savings in our name above a certain threshold and demonstrate that we will have adequate accommodation in the UK.
Though we have savings, our hope is to put this money towards buying a house in the UK should our visa be granted. We cant really buy a house when theres any chance we wont both be allowed to stay in the UK, and even if we did, that would take our savings below the required threshold.
Some years ago I believe that having relatives willing and able to house you was enough to satisfy the requirement for adequate accommodation. Does anybody know if this is still the case? I really want to avoid having to come to the UK alone, splitting up my family for six months to a year while I waste money on renting a place just to have an address to put on a form.
Have you or has somebody you know been through this process? Can you recommend an immigration lawyer/advisor? Id really appreciate anything anyone can share.
