Apologies for this dull dull dull thread but i am interested in getting peoples opinions. I went to see the London Oratory with my son last night. A school with a big reputation and undoubtedly great facilities and track record. In truth it took me back to all the elements of going to school that i personally hated, humourless strict teachers and heavily influenced by a pious version of Christianity which often feels like it has very little to do with love and forgiveness (I am not no longer religious but my wife and son attend church).
Whilst there the headmaster couldn't emphasis enough the importance of the value added figures as a measure of how a school is doing. Mainly i think because that meant that it put The London Oratory near the top and well ahead of the direct rival Cardinal Vaughan. However in reality it didn't place the school well in terms of the schools we are actually considering.
So are there any schooling experts or parents that have been through this before? What figures/stats did you put most emphasis on? What other factors did you consider? After having made the choices and your kids having started school, were there any other factors you would consider now that you never considered before?
