Some of the headers he won today for a payer of his size were ridiculous. He was beating the scouser in the wig to headers at the end. No one can contest how hard he is working for the club. I personally really hopes it works out for him.
Dropping Punch
He's undoubtably a quality player and by no means have we seen the last of his quality but in my opinion be hasnt hit the right note yet this season for whatever reason. Should he have a brief break from the starting 11 to refocus or should we play him through the lull?
Best Foreign Language Film.
I'm not one for artsy fartsy stuff so I nominate Ip Man.
I was never a martial arts film fan until this.

Bolasie of old last 20 minutes today
The number of times Bolasie eased past the united full back and whipped in deadly crosses in the 20 minutes, that is what we need him doing again. Just a shame someone like Murray wasn't there to finish them off :(
Encouraging result today though, we've been awful results wise against united recently in the league.

Getting closer and closer to a settled side. Just need MC and CW back. Masterstroke Mcarthur as defensive mid and covering Cabaye. That works.

Supporters Club
Comments on here recently have mentioned when we used to have a supporters club I spoke to a couple of people today to get there views they said it might be worth looking into.So are there any other supporters out there that think its worth looking into it would be interesting to hear peoples views and if they would be willing to get involved.
Yellow cards.....WTF
Does anyone actually know what's turns a straight forward foul into a yellow card offence. Against West ham although not intentional nasty tackles Gayle got 2 yellow cards. Today in the first half no Man Utd player got a yellow card but 3 were dished out in the second half for similar offences. Kelly got a yellow card for a foul and then didn't for almost exactly the same tackle minutes later. Cabaye got a yellow card and then TWICE kicked and throw the ball away and got no yellow card.
Seems to me Ref are just making it up as they go along. Today's ref had a good game ,but on another day we could have had 2 players sent off

Trick or treat
Is it okay for young kids with there parents to do it or not?
I took my 5 year old only to houses we new or ones with Halloween stuff outside because they were excited.
However I saw some adults get really angry at other kids and some very salcastic notes.
So right or wrong?

Player Ratings And Reviews: Man Utd (home)
Hennessey 7 superb save 1 on 1 and catch from free kick. Decent distribution.
Ward 7 good
Delaney 7 solid
Dann 7 Solid
Kelly 7 good
Mcarthur 7 superb in holding role
Zaha 7 beat his man
Puncheon 5 gave ball away. Poor
Cabaye 7 did well after picking up early yellow
Bolasie 7 hit the bar. Worked hard
Gayle 7 lively and won headers he had no right to win.
Subs:
Jedinak 6 average
Pardew 7 did well putting Mccarthur in holding role. Team much better balanced as a consequence. Like it. Puncheon poor. Other than that everyone a 7 or an 8. Chamakh instead of Punch and we win the game. Good performance though.

Rules are as follows
1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.
2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)
3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).
4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.
5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.
6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.
7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.
8 Singles and upwards accepted.
9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.
10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2
11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.
12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.
13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..
14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You cant shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.
15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher
16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)
17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

The Championship is a great league...Wenger
vendredi 30 octobre 2015
According to Wenger, the championship has improved in quality. This, he said after Arsenal getting dumped out of the Capital One cup by Sheffield Wednesday ....courtesy of a splendid performance from one Barry Bannan. :lux:
For quality, money, class....its surely the Premier League. Anybody watch that boring ManUre Versus Citeh game the other day ? Boring. Money. Yawn.
but, for Entertainment, surprises, goals, passionate fans, local homegrown players, affordable tickets, teams at the top of the table getting spanked by minnows at the bottom ....its got to be the Championship.
2 questions :
- is the Championship one of the best leagues in the world, and therefore a shame it gets so little coverage on the telly
- do you have any sympathy or pity for Millwall who are missing all the fun :sob::sob:

Fast Eddy's
So the yearly Croydon food hygiene ratings have been released, and Fast Eddy's have been revealed to have the lowest possible rating in their June inspection (0 out of 5).
I am distraught. I've had so much pre match food here, and just the thought of how dirty their kithen was at the time of the inspection is off putting!
Where can I go for my pre match food with the guarantee it won't be covered in rat poo?

Interview today in the guardian
http://ift.tt/1kUh4pQ
I tried a couple of avenues made a few calls, put my CV in for a few jobs like Brighton and Colchester, but I never got an interview. So I asked Steve Coppell if there was a position on the coaching staff coming up at Reading, where he was managing at the time. To be fair to him, he politely said no and thats how I ended up doing some work for Sky."

cabaye and his effect on our team.
Now, first of all, I will state that I have only been to the Speroni testimonial, and the Shrewsbury and Charlton cup games. I did, however, watch most of Watford on TV, and I have watched MOTD. I think the cup games and Watford give me at least a little bit of room to have an opinion. Reading various posts on here though also fuels my thoughts.
Has Cabaye upset our team? In the sense that Gayle was on spot-kick duty in the cup games, and scored a hat-trick against Charlton, yet was then taken off penalties in the Watford and subsequent games. It's made Cabaye look like he's done more, and Gayle done less since, and whilst Gayle was stupid to get sent-off against West Ham, he had done well up to then.
Puncheon was fantastic last season, and took all of the free-kicks. In the end, I think it's safe to say that he was the main man for much of last season. He used to take a lot of the set-pieces - namely the free kicks, from which he scored a fair few. This season, Cabaye has taken over. I wonder if, Cabaye coming in and taking over has knocked Puncheon back. Are Puncheon's lacklustre performances and what he produces being effected by the fact that Pards has basically said, Cabaye has come in to take us up the level, and is now the main man.

Doom and Gloom Thread?
Doom and Gloom thread.
Long month ahead. Hard to see where our next points can come from.
What is up with all the injuries at the moment? And most of them happening in training!
Can't remember the last time we had luck like this. New Doctor has got his work cut out for him.
Could we be in the bottom 3 by Christmas?
Bolasie looks a shadow of his former self. Jedinak looks a different player.
Mutch and Bamford are League 1 players at best.
Have I missed anything?

Player Ratings And Reviews: Man city away (league cup)
Dysmal stuff really, a game to forget
Poor defending, horrendous finishing and just a general lack of effort.
There is no disgrace in losing to City but atleast let them know they are in a game.
Some questions that need answering
Why is our shooting so poor? why cant we pass a ball accurately? where has the workrate gone? whats happened to our defending?
Feel very sorry to the fans who went up and watched that, think the players should refund them

Experienced coach required now surely
I get the feeling Pardew feels he can do it all with his chum Salako to hold his hand and be the eyes n ears. We need an experienced coach to help out, esp our attacking play. We are not as good as the press have made out recently.
Pardew time to swallow your pride and get in someone that has the know how and quick.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Man United
McCarthy
Ward Dann Delaney Souare
Cabaye Ledley McArthur
Zaha Gayle Sako
Hennessey Mariappa Puncheon Bolasie Mutch Jedinak Bamford
Never been comfortable with Hennessey and actually like McCarthy. Assuming Wickham is out. Hoping Souare and Ward are fit to play. Time to drop the under performers = Bolasie & Puncheon. Don't think Delaney has been great, now his given away a ridiculous penalty as I'm writing this. This whole thing where we haven't scored from open play since Chelsea is embarrassing now. I'd actually take 0-0 just to stop the rut and build on with an extra point on the board
Pardew really needs to get the players going otherwise the "Pardew run" what Newcastle refers to is starting to happen where we build up a long losing streak. BAN ALL SHORT CORNERS
Not good enough

No Delaney in Irish squad for play-off.
Don't know if it is Damo or the Irish management but he is absent from the provisional squad for their play-off v Bosnia. If it is Damo who said no, then fair enough. I know he put it out on his Instagram account that he needed time to recover from the PL fixtures and that was why he didn't put himself forward. However, given the paucity of decent ROI players and the crucial nature of the fixture, I'm a bit surprised he wouldn't put his name forward for selection. If, as I suspect, it is MON and RK playing silly buggers then they are beyond stupid. Especially since John O'Shea (called up) is likely to miss the game through injury (he already misses the first game through suspension), you might have thought that the two bosses would be begging Damo to play a role. Football is such a stupid game sometimes.
Anti virus/internet protection software
Can anyone recommend a free anti virus/internet protection software? I currently use Norton 360, which is slow and about £70 a year, so I want to replace that.
Cheers.

Discussion: Outs in January
Parish has said we right up the FFP wage limit so need some outs before getting any ins.
Who you let go?
For me
Campbell - even if we have to pay some wages
Jedi- big call but whats the point of having him and Ledley sat on the bench or not even in the match day squad
Out on Loan
Mutch- needs to get some matches under his belt and I cant see him
Chungy -see above

19-0-19. Happy?
Currently, at 5-0-5, perhaps a similar level record at the end of the season would not be such a bad thing? How would you feel about 57 points and a 0 goal difference?
Detroit - New Quantic Dream PS4 Game
Quote:
Some of you might remember a PS3 tech demo called Kara that we released in 2012. It was about an android who discovered she could feel emotions and appeared to be sentient. Many people were deeply moved by this character and felt empathy for this character who just wanted to live. But everyone had the same question: what happens to Kara when she leaves the factory? I kept asking myself the same question since we released this short. I knew I had to find out! So we imagined our world in a near future where androids like Kara would look, speak, and move like real human beings. We wondered how we — humans — would react if we were confronted with a new form of intelligence, how androids conceived as machines would be perceived if they started to have emotions. We didn’t want to do another story on AI (there are already so many great ones), we wanted to talk about what it means to be human and what it would be like to be in the shoes of an android discovering our world and their own emotions |
Colocinni Red Card Recinded
Just heard this, Newcastle captain's red card turned around on appeal.
I think the FA may not have heard the last of this considering how boderline some decisions have been in other matches so far.

Save Norwood Library!
I'm part of the Save Lambeth Libraries campaign, and some Palace supporters are going on the march in a block. The details are:
Saturday 7 November, 10.30am, meeting at Windrush Square outside Brixton library (two minutes walk from the tube), and marching to Tate South Lambeth Library.
So please come along if you can make it.
Basically Lambeth councillors voted on 12 October to close five of Lambeth's ten libaries. One library is to be closed entirely, three of them are being handed over to a pravate company to turn them in to gyms and are being given peppercorn rent to do so and Norwood library is to be given to a trust who won't have to use the building as a library.
No detailed financial information has been given, and the Friends of Libraries Groups, trade unions and local authors all oppose the plans. Two of the three local MPs have also come out against the plans.
Lambeth libraries are some of the most used libraries in London and this will be a devestating blow to local communities. The councillors are under increasing pressure to reverse this decision so please come along if you can.
Also the Save Lambeth Libraries campaign has asked if any of the following would be possible:
1) Could some Palace supporters do a stall outside the next home game against Man Utd. Me and my dad sit in the Holmsdale Road end and I'm going to try and do one. Please PM me if you'd like to help with petitions and the stall.
2) Is it possible to do a Save Norwood Library banner in the ground. If any of the Holmesdale Fanatics could contact me or anyone else that would be great. I can get a banner done if anyone is up for holding it up in the ground.

Morning, Palace fans!
A couple of points from a level-headed Leicester fan to level-headed Palace fans (lets just ignore the dicks on both sides :) )
The Flags
Any Leicester fan who is seriously suggesting contacting the police, the club or anyone else is just taking this too seriously. Don't pay attention to them (I'm sure the police won't). That being said, there will obviously be a response. We won't be stealing your banners because a) you'll be expecting that and b)the only way we'd get them is through violence which neither HF05 or UFS is interested in. Let's leave that shite in the 80s where it belongs (although your group's tough guy poses on FB are adorable!). Our response will be good-humoured but piss-takey just like yours was.
Stealing Chants
I don't sing along with WLY or EWG not because they're Palace's (they're not, everyone sings them), it's because they're shit. They belong in the Championship with 'Ey-I-ey-I-ey-I-O' We've had quite a few chants copied from us over the past few years but we don't care since that's the nature of the beast. We just come up with more (including a couple of absolute shockers that got an airing on Saturday).
"Shit Palace Tribute Act"
Oh come on! Get over yourselves! You didn't invent the concept of a fan group. Is no one else allowed to gather in a group, sing songs, organise tifos and wave flags? No one's copying you. This stuff has been going on for decades. Stop being so precious.
The Clappers
These were massively unpopular when they were brought in. But in fairness, they get the rest of the ground involved in making a noise. Those of us who sang anyway, just use them as projectiles or shred them up. You'll never see anyone using one of them and singing at the same time. I'm sure at Selhurst Park you have a fair few thousand who just sit on their hands not making any noise or even worse fans who buy tickets in your little corner and just stand there taking in the atmosphere. HF05 tourists, if you will. These clappers are for people like that to play with.

Any hearing experts on here?
After years of DJ'ing, my hearing is crap, I went for a hearing test yesterday at Hidden Hearing, and I need hearing aids in both ears, they programmed some shop ones and the difference was immence, however the ones I liked are £2 grand. I told them I wanted to shop around, however, after looking online its a bloody minefield. Can anyone reccomend a site to go to for good quality, but cheaper aids. Cheers.
Christmas food advice please
lundi 26 octobre 2015
Hi all
I see my sister much these days (as in almost never), but once a year I do send an email asking her if she could give me some idea of what she'd like for a Christmas present.
This year she has asked me for (and I quote)
"Olives, Lemons and Za'atar"
Being more of a shop at Iceland kind of bloke, I'm not familiar with this delicacy. Please could someone save me from my ignorance and give me a clue as to what I should be getting? :(
Thanks. :afro:

We should take a look at him. Holds the ball up well with a good turn of pace. Been impressed when I've seen him this year.
For sure.
Why would you say this?
Are you going to work? For sure.
Will you win today? Fore sure.
Having a wank today? For sure.
Of course, or yes would do. Fecking Americans.
Its like saying hey, instead of hello. Septic bastards.
Having another beer and pacheran now, to calm down a tad.

Crystall Ball - Man City in Capital cup
Not the usual please. Because this is a cup game, the special "must get a result" rules apply.
1. Correct score 3 points as per usual.
2. Correct result 1 point as per usual
3. In the event of a win to either side, nominate if it will be in normal or extra time. If you are right, you get 1 bonus point.
4. In the event that the match is drawn, nominate who will win the penalty shoot-out for a bonus point.
5. Nominate scorers as per usual.
6. Nominate attendance as per usual.
Please note that a penalty shootout means the game is drawn. There's always some mental cripple who asks why, if Palace won, he's not getting any points when he said we would advance via penalties. And I have to write back, "It's because you picked a draw, you moron."

Cars with 3 individual back seats
Looking to change cars in February and with 3 growing kids would like to get a car with 3 separate seats in the back. Currently have a Qashqai which we've liked, but the middle seat is a bit squashed.
I'm probably biased toward German or Japanese and against French but open to ideas.
Options I've seen are S-Max, XC90, Prius+
Any recommendations (or "to be avoided")?

What does Manchester United have to do with anything relevant in the world of club football ? Supported by kids, supported by people in developing countries (countries with zero football tradition) and supported by american women who think the offside rule is a parking restriction and responsible for the boring defensive dirge that now blights all football when the money or the stakes get too high. You know, Luton Town versus Grimsby would probably have more passion, enthusiasm, ambition and heroism ?

Leicester flags pinched
Pic going around on fb and twitter about a couple of Leicester flags nicked by Palace fans at yesterdays game.
Leicester fans not too happy - To view the link you have to Register or Login
Apparently they were taken when the ground emptied, which seems slightly less impressive than having "won" the flags in battle :D

Things to do before you are 40
I'm 40 next year and on my 39th I wrote a list of things I wanted to do before then. Some, such as complete my first 10k, I have achieved.
Can you suggest any things to go on the list? What do you want to do before you're 30/40/50 etc?

Can anyone who refs explain this rule?
I see every week players shielding the ball with their body on the touch line. This rule seems to be at odds with that
The Football Association's law on impeding an opponent says: " A player who places himself between an opponent and the ball for tactical reasons has not committed an offence as long as the ball is kept within playing distance and the player does not hold off the opponent with his arms or body.
They use their body to Sheild, what are they supposed to use ?
Thx

Atmosphere
What has happened to us?
Other clubs fans were commenting on how good we were not long ago,now it's awful IMO. swathes of people yesterday not bothering at all.West ham when we were down to 10 and the players needed us.Nothing.
Are we becoming like others, where it is wholly dependant on what's happening on the pitch?
Are we getting diluted with a new breed of premier league glory hunters just there to watch the game and nothing else?.
Have we lost the feel good factor? No new songs etc? complacency? a lack of connection with the players? Or a combination of everything?
Need to get our mojo back ,but how?

Personally I would double the price of games consoles and tablets and use the money for free footballs and skipping ropes and get the kids outside playing.

D.O.D/ Date of Death.
Just suppose on your 18th birthday that, along with the keys to the door, you also received your d.o.d or date of death.
Of course, depending on the date and how long you had, each of us would be affected differently, but, on the whole, do you think that knowing it would have significantly changed your approach to life in general?
(p.s. no bucket lists)

Wasn't at the game and didn't see any streams so only saw match of the day.....
WTF is going on with that refereeing? Clearly that was 2 penalties!
Zaha probably got fouled by 2 players, clear pen
The handball.... I get that it's not a handball when it's ball to hand from close range but since when did the hand ball rule not get applied when you are too shit to kick it and it then hits your hand??
Horrible officiating! Decisions are not going out way

Frazier Campbell has made the Bench for my All Time Worst Eleven
I've been going since 1993 and only Calvin Andrew and Wayne Andrews are keeping him from a starting role in my all time worst eleven. After today's performance Campbell has relegated Dele Adebola to being a squad player. Anyone care to stick up from him and argue otherwise?
PS- to all the dogooders who tell me to stop being so negative- you clearly weren't there today.

Finding our actual level
The inane, over-inflated, non-sensically positive few on here who think we are a humungous club with a plethora of top-class players are hopefully now calming down a bit and experiencing our actual reality.
We have some good footballers in our ranks fo'sho', but we are have a collection of defenders (Souare aside) who are not. Good at defending of course, but not capable of adding too much value to our offensive play.
This is a hugely inhibiting factor if we are to become the top 8 club far too many feel we already are.
We're in 6th place; after the next 3 games we'll be in mid-table.
If we finish 10th-13th I'll personally be pretty content.

Football (England) Trivia Question
I like to think I'm pretty up with my football and not often I get caught out, but someone just got me with a bit of knowledge I didn't know...
Which player who played in the last round of England matches could have played for Nigeria?
Maybe it is common knowledge (I do think I had heard it before)... let's find out :)

Zaha - easy target?
Must admit, I feel rather sorry for Wilf.
Dug out by the manager a couple of times, when Bolasie and Sako have been abysmal recently.
Is criticised in the media for not becoming the new Ronaldo at Manchester United.
Has never been given enough protection from refs, but now has a reputation amongst fans and journalists as a diver, which he isn't.
Seems to have become a black sheep in the England family on the back of one story involving Henderson throwing his weight around, yet England have no problem picking a proven racist like Vardy.
Wilf is one of our own, and one of our best players. He needs to be loved to play his best stuff, so if nobody else will, let's make sure we love him.

Honestly I wouldn't bother with any other strikers on the bench. May as well bring a centre back on to play upfront if Wickham is not fit.

Discussion: What Striker Shall We Get in For Jan?
Ok folks,
After today's bad result against Leicester it's obvious we need a decent striker in Jan transfer window.
I will kick this debate off:
Let's go for both Austin & Remy and get rid of Campbell, Gayle & Bamford.

Everyone in the UK are you really not watching the game now (3pm)?
I'm still trying to come to grips that all the 3pm games (most of Crystal Palace's games) are not on TV in the UK.
Short version, are you watching on an unauthorized stream now, radio, or just following text updates? (Don't post the streaming links)
Longer version, is there a way to watch the games on demand afterward? even pay per view? It's not like Leicester is close to London so going to the game isn't an option for most people. I'm just wondering what they officially want you to do to watch the game.
Also, does the 3pm rule hurt the lesser clubs more? Palace I assume has less games on TV than Chelsea. Chelsea is obviously more popular to start with, but they are also more likely to stay that way. If I'm counting correctly this is the 10th game and 6 have been at 3pm on Saturday for Palace.
A whole separate question is if teams in lesser divisions make replays of their games available. A colleague of mine claims to be a fan of Brighton and I take solace in that he can't watch any of the games on TV here in the States, but then I can barely comprehend that most of you can't watch most of Palace's games either.
So what are you all doing? Stream, radio, or textual updates?

Campbell vs Leicester City
vendredi 23 octobre 2015
I've always stood up for Campbell. I know he has the potential to deliver but just needs to prove to everyone else that he does. We need his Cardiff form. I swear Campbell if you score the winner against Leicester, I will ******* love you forever, I know that it is not much but just imagine this is Michelle Keagan...
Gorn lad, you can do it!! Outstanding peformance today and you'll get the respect you deserve!

Can only be a good thing, although will be interesting to see how this turns out. Things have thankfully moved on since Justin Fashanu came out in 1990, but here we are 25 years on and no other professional still plying his trade has felt comfortable enough to come out.

Stats prior to Leicester Away first 9 matches
Southgate Eagle posted a thought re comparative performance stats this year vs last on the Dwight Gayle thread and as ever it triggered a thought and I got a bit carried away with it - true to form. I haven't spent a lot of time looking at the results TBH but thought I would dump the data on here first for all to see and then take a look.
Underlying data is from Opta via Squawka I had to retype it and so room for error but check their site yourself if concerned. To even things out a little I have:
- taken the period covering the first 9 games of last season vs the same this season.
- only included players that have played in 4 or more games
- have then looked on all stats averaged out on a 'per 90 min' basis
It seems like the best and fairest way to compare the seasons. Before there is a load of excuses/rationalisation of why this isn't fair because the first 9 games were against different teams etc. - my best answer is 'tough s**t' this was hard enough :)
2014/2105
Last season over the first 9 games the players ranked in this order based on performance and I have added a smattering of key stats for them.
This season over the first 9 games they rank like this:
2015/16
Will explain the headings in the next post. Have to say this is a pain to format :(

Anyone getting this? I was probably one of the top 10 guitar hero players in the country back in its heyday, this new one looks OK, but the new six button controller tells me it's probably going to be too chord based for my liking.

Not been to Patricks in Beckenham for a game. Could anyone who has give an idea of the picture quality and what time you need to be there for to be assured of a spot (seem to recall a £10 entry fee with two drinks being mentioned?)?
Have been to the Swan in West Wickham for Sky games. Again, anyone know what the quality is like when game is from a stream?
Your answers will be much appreciated:p

Term time holidays
Figures release shows that the number of parents getting fined for taking their children on holiday during term time has tripled. Whether this is because the schools are imposing the fines more heavily now or just that parents are getting fed up of being ripped off isnt clear.
However isnt time we had some common sense here? I have 3 children and the cost of taking them away in the summer holidays compared with say taking them in the last week in June is amazing. The same holiday can be up to 3 times cheaper in June than it is say in the second week in July, and the holiday companies have cottoned on to people who try to just go in the last week of term, that is in the high price market too now.
I understand business, supply and demand etc however why cant something be done to bring the cost of the holidays down to stop people even contemplating taking their children out of school?

Landlord and tenant (again)
A young colleague of mine rents a room in a house shared with friends. The tenancy ends in March. They have been notified by the estate agent who manages the property that they will be painting the ceiling of my colleague's bedroom. There is no apparent trigger for this and they don't want to paint any other ceilings or any other part of the flat. previously the painters used by the agents have painted common parts of the flat, taking longer than promised and getting paint on the tenants' property. Obviously this is a massive inconvenience but I was wondering if they actually have any rights in preventing this unwanted intrusion into their enjoyment of the tenancy?

I really do think the governing bodies of sports (is darts even a sport?) are in danger of overstepping reasonable boundaries. Many sportsmen have now been banned for the use of substances that provide no competitive advantage and provided they aren't under the influence whilst competing are causing no harm other than to themselves.
I see no reasonable argument for the governing bodies testing and banning for these substances. I include dettori anf Livermore in this, by all means test them if you employ them but the governing bodies have no right to do this anymore than they do enforcing an alcohol ban.

When Can I Buy Tickets for the Chelsea Game? (Jan 3rd)
I want to buy tickets for my son-in-law and granddaughter who will be travelling to London at Christmas from Australia. I live in Australia also and am a fully paid up international member of CPFC and want to know the easiest way to secure tickets prior to the day. Any advice would be very appreciated.

Doing the state's bidding
If you join the police force you expect to enforce the government of the day's law. Similarly if you join the Army you can reasonably expect that you may be are asked to fight on behalf of the state and border officials can hardly complain about having to query the visa status of immigrants arriving into the UK.
However, and maybe this is just me, there seems to be an increasing creep of getting regular institutions and citizens to police others on behalf of the state.
Schools have to decide and report on parents who take their own children out of school, seeting teachers and headmaster against parents.
Employers have to carry out checks on their employees. I can understand that employers need to get a NI number and pay the PAYE and NI for their staff but if the government is willing to take that tax why does the employer have to investigate further?
Now it seems landlords have to become immigration officials and ensure anyone they rent a room to has all the neccessary visa and paperwork. Why does a landlord have to be an immigration expert?
I see this occuring more and more. Should regular citizens really be forced to police other citizens? Reminds me of communist China and the old Soviet bloc

I see this occuring more and more. Should regular citizens really be forced to police other citizens? Reminds me of communist China and the old Soviet bloc
Between Two Worlds - Executive Producer - Scott Dann
Anyone know anything about 'Between Two Worlds'? premiered last night. Our own Scott Dann is the Executive Producer.
Couldn't find much on the net, only know what I know by what Palace tweeted last night.
Apparently it has a lot of scousers in it.
Couldn't find another thread on this either.
All I could find was stuff about an older film of the same name.

Leaving a job with immediate effect
Hi all just wondering what my rights are in regards to leaving a job with immediate effect. I've been placed on performance review unfairly and completely out of the blue. My manager has made it impossible to work with her in doing so. They have not offered me redundancy and it's clear from conversations that they will attempt to fire me at the end of a review period regardless of whatever work I submit. Do I have any rights to leave? Thanks in advance guys.
Has Palace missed a trick ?
According to the Times, Xi Jinping is going to Manchester (he's a ManUnited "fan"), to look around the Etihad stadium and witness the induction into the Hall of Fame, at the National Football Museum (isn't that in Preston ?) of Sun Jihai.
But Sun Jihai and Chinese captain Fan Zhiyi were brought to the Prem by Palace. Shouldn't Steve Parish have been invited to share the kudos of this "event" ?:(

Charlton are up to their old tricks again.

City Break Suggestions Needed.
Mrs Sluggo and I looking at going on a little 'City Break' between Christmas and New Year. So far we have narrowed it down to either Eurostar trip to Belgium (Brussels and Bruges have been mentioned) or flying to St Petersberg.
So my question to the wise and widely travelled BBS is as follows: Which would you choose and what would you do / see / visit when you get there?

Good enough to have played for Palace but never did.

People you don't remember dying ..
Was chatting with a friend Saturday about tv series we would like to see given a one off comeback .. I suggested the young ones , because I'd love to see if the writers would show rik and Vivian as middle aged anarchists or 2.4 children city types.. My friend pointed out Rik Mayall died last year , I was surprised I didn't remember his death being so recent and widely reported .. anyone else done this ?
Fans in Sydney
Hello guys, I am moving to Australia indefinitely on March 14th after 10 days in Hawaii.
This means I will have to give up my season ticket at Crystal Palace, I will no doubt really miss this!
I was wondering if there were any bars or pubs in Sydney that Palace fans go to watch the games?
UP THE PALACE!!

Kenny Burns Admission
So he's going on about filing his studs down to the metal in order to inflict damage to opposition players back in the 70's and 80's Ha bloody ha.
Can't he be arrested for that along with Ron 'chopper' Harris for historic football crimes?
I'm sick and tired of these 'characters' making a living out of all this bullshit.

Can we win with 10 men?
Seemed pretty obvious to me on Saturday that in this league with 10 men its virtually impossible to win with 10 men for over half the game.
I guess you might still fancy Man City to win against say Watford or Sunderland.
But I don't think we could have beaten West Brom or anyone to be honest.
We may have only beaten Charlton 3-0 ?:D
Anyway - Begs the question that at this level sending a player of for 2 fouls is incredibly harsh as you effectively handing the game to the opposition - That defeat may cost us a place in the table come the end of the season - Which will have a direct monetary value of say 2/3 million. Things need to change IMO.
Anyway -Back to the question - Can we win with 10 men is the question? Against anyone in the EPL?

Hotel Squatters to stay for winter
dimanche 18 octobre 2015
Despite my irrational hatred of everything to do with ManU and celebrity footballers this has made me think twice. Not that I should need to, it's just engrained.
Fair play to Giggs and Neville.

When Manchester United footballers Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs got planning permission to turn the historic Manchester stock exchange into a boutique hotel replete with basement gym, spa and rooftop private members’ terrace, they envisaged opening it up to an exclusive and moneyed clientele. Instead, a group of homeless people with little or no money have moved in – with Neville’s blessing.
The hotel, which is undergoing extensive renovations before opening its doors to paying guests, was occupied on Sunday by a group of squatters and housing activists called the Manchester Angels. Instead of the usual response of property owners – rushing to court to obtain an order to get the uninvited new incumbents evicted – the famous ex-footballers who own the building have told them they can stay, not just for a few days, but throughout the coldest months of the winter.

Wesley Hall, 33, a housing and human rights activist who is leading the protest, said that he broke down in tears following a phone conversation with Neville on Sunday in which Neville said he had always supported homeless people and had no problem with the activists using the hotel to house people during the cold winter months.

“From my point of view, I’m quite relaxed about this,” Neville replied. He added that for the past 10 years he had offered support to homeless people he has seen on the street while walking through Manchester.
“Thank you so much – you don’t understand what you have done for us,” Hall said repeatedly to Neville.
Hall and his fellow activists say they can now act on their plan to provide a one-stop shop for homeless people – a roof over their heads, hot food, health checkups, benefit advice, workshops, signposting to other services and help with securing permanent accommodation. They are calling the initiative Operation Safe Winter, and have renamed the stock exchange the Sock Exchange, as they will be distributing clothing to the new occupants.
“We are going to do everything properly,” said Hall. “We have already drawn up rotas for cooking, cleaning and staffing the gate. Everyone will be able to have their own room and each person will be able to lock their bedroom door. We were expecting that as soon as Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville found out that we had occupied the building, they would try to get us evicted and that we would have to look for another building. Having a few months during the winter to work with homeless people without the threat of eviction hanging over our heads is brilliant.”

He said Neville’s only stipulation was that surveyors and other work people would be able to gain access to the building as and when they need to, which was readily agreed to by Hall. “We undertake not to cause any damage to anything and to leave the building in as good if not a better state than we found it in. I have ordered smoke alarms to keep the building safe. I even suggested to Gary that he might be interested in employing some of the homeless people who are living here as labourers to help with the redevelopment work on the hotel,” he said.
The former stock exchange in Norfolk Street in central Manchester was built in 1906 and is Grade II listed. Neville and Giggs have permission to turn it into a 35-bed hotel with basement gym and spa, also featuring a rooftop private members’ terrace and a ground-floor restaurant and bar.
The first regional stock exchanges opened in 1836 in Manchester and Liverpool, linked to the one established in London more than a century earlier. Its early days were driven by the railway boom and the need to raise capital in the north of England. The Manchester Guardian described the mood at the time as “Joint Stock mania”. The exchange listed railway companies as well as insurance, minerals and manufacturers. The building was designed by the Bolton architects Bradshaw, Gass and Hope, and cost £86,000 to build.
Wesley Hall

The successful occupation is second time lucky for the activists. During the Conservative party conference held in Manchester earlier this month, they occupied another prestigious Grade II-listed building. As the prime minister made his keynote speech about a new house building programme to develop 200,000 new homes, the activists aimed to send a strong signal to the government. They argue that while this initiative might help those on middle incomes, it will not tackle the problem of homelessness and the hundreds of thousands of empty homes they say should be used to provide short-term accommodation for homeless people.
The activists say that homelessness in Manchester has risen by 150% in recent years and that the local council has penalised rough sleepers who have pitched tents in the city centre. According to the latest statistics published by Crisis, 280,000 people in England approached councils last year seeking assistance, while 7,581 slept rough on the streets of London, a 16% increase on the previous year. The latest figures released by the Empty Homes Agency says that there are currently 610,000 empty homes across the country.
Hall is already considering how Christmas will be celebrated. He is hoping to enlist the culinary expertise of celebrity chefs to provide a festive lunch to remember. He asked anyone who would like to help out to contact him on Twitter.
“I can’t quite believe it. The whole thing is a dream come true,” he said. “We’ve got a real opportunity to do some intensive work with homeless people and make a big difference to their lives.”
Fair play to Giggs and Neville.

Old Stand question
I am sure someone on the BBS will know the answer to this question, along the back of the Old Stand between the Directors box central area and Whitehorse lane stand there looks what looks like "executive boxes " are they.
I know the other part towards the Holmsdale stand is the "press area" but any ideas, there always seems to be spectators in that area, wondered if it was for staff or Players friends etc

Our wingers - we are not using them enough
All the opposition managers give us so much credit and respect because of them, and rightly so - Bolasie and Zaha can win a game out of nothing, and when on form are the best pair of wingers in the league. By a long way. So why are we always so down on them? Build the team around them! If they are running out of puff for the final 10 minutes hook them, but if not they should be the last players taken off. I bet Billic couldn't believe his luck at half time. Not only were we down to 10 men but we had just taken off our best player in the previous game, and a player they feared so much that they had double and triple marked him for the entirety of the first half, starving him of ball and thus making it look like he had a bad game according to some. It's complete nonsense. As for Bolasie, his workrate leads a lot to be desired, but I do feel a bit sorry for him. Not only has he had to contend with issues off the field, but he has also been used as a makeshift centre forward whilst at the same time wearing a ridiculous No 10 shirt that must really confuse him. The management need to keep it simple with him. Play him on the left wing, and play him into form.
Sure, our wingers need to improve end product, although Zaha has helped win numerous penalties this season, has 2 goals and Bolasie scored the crucial first goal in our last win. But we need to give them confidence and back them more. Carrot as well as the stick. Neither Wilf or Bolasie should be subbed until at least 80 minutes have elapsed. Don't make problems that are not there. Our issues are up front, and in the pocket behind the striker. The wingers are not a problem. Play them.

Ward------Dann---------------Hangeland-----Souare
--------------------Jedinak-----------------------------
----------Cabaye------------Ledley-------------------
Zaha---------------Wickham----------------Bolasie
I just feel that Mccarthur and Puncheon need a kick up the arse. Both have been playing below their capabilities for a while now. Badly need Wickham back in the team, so hope we see him back if nothing else.

Apparently, an investigation has found that players with darker skin have a 30% greater chance of getting a red card.
"Dark-skinned players were 1.3 times more likely than light-skinned players to receive red cards."
Can't say I've ever noticed it myself these days, although there might have been something in it back in the day (70's/80's), but now?

Professional Footballers and Alcohol
we have all seen the footage of Footballers out partying on the town. Especially after a big win or the end of season, the who would begrudge them letting their hair down. Even Ventola, Andy Johnson and Iain Dowie may have let their hair down on occasion. :hi:
Anyway, long gone are the days of George Best and Gazza publicly on the lash and indifferent to who sees or photographs them. If players have been drinking, we often only learn after they got caught drink driving. Of course the significant number of Muslim players do not drink alcohol. Beckham, among many others, is famously teetotal.
Different managers have differing attitudes to booze. Some are puritanical, others encourage a team bonding session on the odd special occasion. Some like tipple themselves while other managers overindulge.
anyway, what stories or opinions can you share. Cheers
