No less than you would expect from the Islington elite

Certainly for the many not the few

Bluetooth Headphones

With so many out there, I was looking for some recommendations for a pair of fairly cheap in ear headphones I can use for running?

I still think my beats Solo are the best I’ve had but interested to hear others reviews. Not just I have an £800 pair and their good.

Enforced holiday when sick

Just wondering if any of you slick genius's have any idea on what to do.

One of my relo's has just re-started work after being on furlough and sick (due to blindness) but has a week off (paid holiday) booked for next week.

They have told her that they've used that weeks pay for one of the weeks that she was off and if she does have the week off she won't get paid. They didn't either ask or tell her they'd used the week so its come out of the blue this week.

Is there anything she can do about this, it seems to me they've decided to cheat her out of the week. Just as background they are very short staffed at the moment so getting her to come in benefits them in that way as well.

Rumour: Reiss Nelson

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Among those is Reiss Nelson, whose representatives and Arsenal are working to secure a loan deal after the winger was left out of the squad for each of the first three Premier League games of the season.

Crystal Palace are among the clubs keen to secure Nelson's whilst Brighton and Hove Albion and Burnley have also been linked with the 20-year-old.

Nelson did not want to leave this club at the start of the summer but as his frustration mounts over his limited opportunities to prove his worth to Arteta he is understood to be more open to a temporary move away from the Emirates Stadium.

Bromley 4-0 Palace U23s

Apparently our U23s lost 4-0 is a behind closed doors friendly yesterday to Bromley. From looking elsewhere online it seems like it was mainly our U23s and no first teamers featured.

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after.

Tickled me looking at the prices that each charges.

Set yourself back £50 for one from Bruce Grobbelaar.

If you’re a little short then Roy Evans is selling himself for just a tenner.

Thought Sven was quite cheap at £35.

Ex Eagle Marcus Bent’s in there at £10.

Wonder what the deal is about what they are willing to say? I’m guessing I couldn’t get Sven sending my Mrs a birthday wish saying, ‘You’re more gorgeous than Ulrika.’ Or Grobbelaar mentioning the 4-3 semi final.

I guess a unique and surprising present for some. I see Sylvester McCoy is £75 for anyone who’s close to a Whovian.

Ideas on how VAR should be used by referees.

This is how I would set it up from next weekend.

1 review per team, per half. Review retained if correct. (Maybe a traffic light system like the cricket to deal with handballs)

The only reason VAR should exist is to ensure injustices are eradicated from the game. 1 review per half is each teams insurance against that. Otherwise back to how the game used to be.

Has anyone got a better idea?

Managers - who's good, who's not

In your opinion and why?

We post our views constantly about who is stealing a living, past managers (seemingly) getting multiple opportunities to fail, quality of manager vs funds available, English managers, black managers, flash in the pan managers, all sorts..

Why did Curbishley not get another job? Why is Pochettino still not in a job? Has the Premier moved on from the likes of Pulis and Allardyce.

Even with astronomical sums to spend, you can't discount a manager with loads of trophies under their belt. Or can you, to some degree.

Even though our Roy has done an overall amazing job, he failed at Liverpool and England and was criticised very recently by Roberto Carlos. I also think three of his key changes seem to have been forced on him a bit - and wonder whether they would have happened at all if players hadn't been injured. The inclusion of TWO young full backs due to injury, and the need to put Kouyote in defence. At least he can see that Luka wasn't cutting it, and he kept faith with Townsend when most of us weren't.

Who do you think are excellent managers, with and without money. Who would you like (as a fantasy thought) at Palace post Roy if it were at all possible. Who do you think is stealing a living or is at least bang average? Who would you regard as terrible?

Rumour: Scott Dann

Alan Nixon in Twitter:

Burnley. Keen to sign Steve Cook from Bournemouth. Cost about 8. Selling Tarkowksi would give them funds. Dawson at Watford and Dann at Palace also on list.

Can’t see it myself.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Chelsea 3/10

samedi 26 septembre 2020

I’m going to be controversial with the front choice here, but I feel this side would do well.

Guaita
Ward - Kouyate - Sakho - Mitchell
Townsend - McArthur - McCarthy - Eze
Zaha - Schlupp

Hennessey, Kelly, Riedewald, Milivojevic, Meyer, Ayew, Benteke

I think if Schlupp is back this week, then he needs to start. But he can’t replace Eze who has done well and just oozes class. Schlupp can come in as a front man who can hustle and can make runs, which Eze will thrive off.

Ayew has been poor and Batshuayi can’t play against his parent club.

Is football broken?

Immediately after Kevin Friend gave the penalty against us today, I decided to switch off and not bother any further. As far as I am concerned, football is broken and Roy summed up my own feelings pretty accurately. The laws make no sense and there is no enjoyment in it anymore.

However, I am an old sod who remembers what football used to be like before the intervention of microscopic analysis and armchair critics.

So, is this a generational thing? Is it because I am old that I do not see the supposed improvements to the game? Is it because I don't sit glued to each and every game SKY broadcasts that I do not appreciate the new excitement that technology has brought to the game? Is it because of both these factors that I can no longer tolerate what football has become at the top level?

I could do with some feedback on this because the game I fell in love with, played, managed and have watched no longer exists and I will not be returning to it at this level until common sense returns. It may be that by making such a condition, I will never watch another top level game again.

Is it just me?

Minutes silence today

I hope there is am minute's silence today to commemorate the local police officer tragically murdered in Croydon.

Selling a Business

Turning to the BBS for some guidance and advice.

I’ve taken the decision to put my company on the market - looking either for investors or a buy out - just genuinely open to offers to see what we get.

Company has grown massively over the last 10 years but in truth the last two have seen unprecedented growth levels that we’d never have anticipated largely born out of a relationship we’ve forged with a single blue chip client. We’re talking 10x growth since the launch of a new internal platform behind our service.

The Challenge we understandably have is we’ve got this spike in turnover and we’re heavily reliant on this client so likely negotiations will take place over true value of the business...sometimes I fear it’s worth nothing inspite of strong turnover, growth and profit...it’s purely a brand, a piece of IP software and a huge client who loves our service.

Anyone been through anything similar? Any advice on what to expect in negotiations.

17 positive Covid tests

So Leyton Orient Vs Spurs was postponed and the game has now, under Cup rules, been awarded to Tottenham as Orient were unable to play the fixture.

Orient are upset about this as they feel they have been punished for undertaking testing which was paid for by Spurs. It has been reported that 17 positive results came back.

Surely all clubs who are back playing matches should be regularly testing their players and staff? It seems unlikely that 17 of them became infected in the few days between their game with Mansfield and ahead of the Spurs game.

If the figure of 17, reported by the BBC is correct, it surely undermines the whole season? Surely all Mansfield staff and players will now need testing along with the referee etc?

Palace Signatures From The Past, What Date Anyone?

After having a good sort out I came across my get well card I received many moons ago after breaking my leg playing for my local team as a youth.

From what I remember the card was signed by the Palace team just before a match, so I wonder if anyone can work out the team from the signatures (some are obvious I know) and maybe even work out the actual date and match it may have been?

It was that long ago I honestly can't remember the date I broke my leg, I could probably just about work out the year.

It would be impressive if someone can work it out, not easy though, but fun trying.. enjoy..

Press Conference Live: Pre-Everton Thursday 1:30pm

Summary from club Twitter feed...

Roy: It's always good to get points on the board. We looked at our fixtures when they came out and thought it would be a difficult period. Now we know we're capable of this level of performance we need to repeat it again.

Roy: Transformation isn't the word I'd use. Some of the performances [last season] weren't actually poor performances. We are trying to carry on what we were doing.

Roy: The situation is still rather surreal. It's not the same, after all the years, going to big stadia in front of crowds. Everybody misses the fans. They give that extra motivation.

Roy: It's nice to have those two games and two performances but we've got a tough task on Saturday against Everton. I thought last year they were a good team, too. I think they have made three excellent signings.

Roy: Benteke has been training all of this week. One or two others have started to make an appearance but it's still the non-contact stuff.

Roy: We're happy with our signings. Eze and Michy have been fantastic since coming in and have proved they can improve the quality.

Roy: Tyrick got his chance at the end of last season, took that chance well and has really continued in pre-season and the start of this season. He has been a big plus.

Roy: We need grassroots football. We are a football pyramid and we don't want to lose the base of the pyramid even though we are at the apex of it.

And that's it for the broadcast section! Stay tuned on To view the link you have to Register or Login for the press conference in full.

Suggestion: Gazzaniga

Slipped to 3rd choice at spurs behind Joe Hart, maybe we could do a swap deal for Hennessey. Think he'd be a decent backup to VG and would be far more confident with him than WH!

P45 to wrong address

So my girlfriend was made Covid redundant, 6 weeks beforehand she told her line manager we'd moved address but they didn't bother to do anything with that information.

As a result the P45 has gone to our old house, the new tenant has said that they passed it to the landlord who now says they don't have it.

Is there anything that can be done? My understanding is that it isn't something that can be redone.

Has anyone had a response from the club regarding ST's?

considering people have paid for this season and we wont be going for probably 6 months now? ive e-mailed the club and had no replys at all!

nothing on clubs site either?

I hope this is ok to put this on here. This has been professionally transferred from the original VHS tape to DVD. This I believe is the first ever Crystal Palace type of Season Review.

This is the season that Ian Wright and Mark Bright set the Second Division alight with Wright scoring 33 goals and Bright 25. There are also contributions from Phil Barber, Geoff Thomas and Super Alan Pardew culminating in Palace’s promotion to Division One. This is Wright and Bright playing for Palace at their peak.

If you are interested in obtaining a DVD with case and artwork from the original VHS (see photo) please pm me. If preferred, I can provide an MP4 file copy on a memory stick.

Please note that the running time is 30 minutes and only includes the “Golden Goals” from the 1988/89 season. Please remember that it is VHS quality.

Is it known if any current Palace players read this forum?

Would it be worth their while?

Suggestion: Callum Hudson Odoi

Rumours in The Guardian that he is going to be made available for sale. Obviously his wages are absolutely massive. However if we could sort out something on that front then CHO would be a perfect fit as the Zaha replacement. He is the closest thing I’ve seen to Zaha in about 15 years. Really talented. Not as strong, but could become stronger and he already has the end product. Could play up front in the future. Apart from the wages he’d be a perfect fit. That said, Zaha is on £120k+ per week and no-one grumbles about that. If he could produce half of what Zaha has done for us then he’d be an excellent signing, even if wages were big. Depends if he wants to play I guess, or if he’s happy to just take the cash and sit in Chelsea’s or another big team’s reserves.

Rumour: Logan Chalmers - young Dundee Unt player

mardi 22 septembre 2020

Logan Chalmers is the latest young Dundee United star to attract the attention of Premiership and Championship clubs in England, Courier Sport can reveal.

Crystal Palace, Southampton and Birmingham all sent scouts to Tannadice on Saturday to check out the young forward.

And they left having seen the 20-year-old put in a man of the match performance against St Mirren.

Earlier in the season he had played a big part in United’s winning goal against Ross County.

Manager Micky Mellon believes Chalmers is one of the brightest young talents in Scotland.

New Palace fan

Congratulations to my youngest brother Gary (Him in my Avatar from years ago)and his wife Lala on the birth of their first child, he was born on Saturday morning at 3.30am just in time for the wankers game. Welcome to the world Freddie Peter.

I know some of you know Gary.

Office/Desk Chair

As we're all stuck at home for the foreseeable, I need to buy a new chair for the home office. There seems to be so many out there with varying prices, any recommendations?

Thanks

Rumour: Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Iago Herrerin

Should possibly be 'humour' rather than rumour. What does Latvian think as source on all things Spanish?

ManU or Brighton?

Just before our game on Saturday Brighton play Manchester United.

I loathe Utd much more than I dislike Brighton, so will be hoping the reds get beaten again.

International Day of Peace

Wouldn't it would make sense for the 21st Sept to be an international bank holiday around the whole world?

Would obviously be a lot of work to arrange but there's not many people who don't like a bank holiday, with the spirit of it being that absolutely everyone around the world stops fighting and is nice to each other.

World Peace solved, for a day ;)

Not sure if it's reached the UK but a Briton and an Aussie were killed today in Hoiniara in the Solomon Islands. They were employed by a Norwegian charity to find un exploded ordinance from the last war in the Solomons which saw a great deal of fighting (Guadalcanal) and other islands.
They were'nt disposal experts just locators, disposal done by SIPF, apparantly there is tons of the stuff there.

Suggestion: Lucas Torreira

Presumably settled in London, not in Arteta’s plans. Don’t know about wages but he’s 24, and would suit Hodgson’s deep double pivot perfectly as he has the mobility to get around the pitch to make the tackles, and the class to pass it simply. Thoughts?

Drainage help

Without boring you to death I’ve just had my driveway blockpaved but am a bit concerned about the downpipe I share with my neighbour on the boundary.

I don’t know what was there before but having a look today and any water coming on to my side looks like it will now run off in to an aco drain and to a newly dug soakaway. It doesn’t appear to me as though any water landing on the neighbour’s side will go anywhere though, the pipe stops about a foot above the ground and looks like it drains straight in to the soil directly in front of their house, which I don’t think is right.

If I contact the driveway people first I think they’d fob me off, so who would I contact to take a look at it and offer advice first? Council? The couple are elderly and don’t need the stress.

Rumour: Jarosław Jach

Article google translated:

Jarosław Jach unwanted at Crystal Palace. The club offered it to the Norwegians

Although Jarosław Jach recently played in a League Cup match, his situation at Crystal Palace is not improving much. As we have established, the Premier League club wants to get rid of the player. On the last days he offered it to Norwegian Sarpsborg 08 FF.

After Jach's transfer to Zagłębie Lubin, the 26-year-old had a hard time in London. In principle, he did not play any significant role there, and yet he retired from the position of the representative of Poland. Last season he was loaned to Raków Częstochowa. When he returned in the summer, his position seemed to be slightly better. Especially that Roy Hodgson put him in the starting line-up in the League Cup game against Borunemouth, the loser in penalties 10:11 (the Pole used his X-ray).

The debut after 2.5 years' stay, however, may be the last appearance this year at Palace, as the club is looking for a new employer for the defender. Our information shows that Jach was offered to Sarpsborg 08 FF. This is the club of the Norwegian Eliteserien playing in a city located 90 km from Oslo. At the halfway point of the tournament, he is ranked 7th.

Sarpsborg authorities are now wondering whether the Pole is a suitable candidate for a defense - a position they are looking for reinforcements. There is still a lot of time until the transfer window closes (October 5), so it is possible that the transaction will be finalized and Jach will move to the south of Norway.

Of course, the consent, apart from The Eagles, must be given by the player himself, who has a valid contract with the Londoners until 2022.

That's it really

Zaha as captain

How do we feel he did as skipper?

Roy's Team Selections

They confuse every Palace fan game to game. Especially today. I'm sure a high percentage of Palace fans were shocked/annoyed when they found out Eze/Batsman weren't starting. Do we honestly think today's result would have been different (had they started) or is Roy actually a tactical genius?

EDIT: Not that I am trying to make today's performance about individuals. It was an all round great performance

Suggested Team and Formation For: Everton ( H )

Same team for me that turned manure over

Please can we put Wilf back onto the wing

I am deeply concerned that Wilf Zaha is getting into too many goalscoring positions. Another 2 goals today, from a player that half the bbs said was a just a winger. People said Wilf couldn’t finish. Funny that he can finish when given the opportunity. Such a threat on the shoulder of the last man. Such a threat when in the box. Scored another disallowed goal with a great finish past a top keeper as well as the further 2 goals today.

Enough is enough though. PLEASE please revert to 4-5-1 for the next couple of games until the transfer window closes Mr Hodgson. I’m worried we are going to lose Wilf with this reckless abandonment of stifling our greatest ever player. Please play him on the wing for the next couple of games. He looks far too dangerous and I want him on the wing tracking back into the left back position at all times  We can’t allow him to score again until the transfer window is closed. More defensive responsibility required from him please. The lethal Jordan Ayew can play up front for us instead. Or Batshuayi. Or Benteke. Please just get Zaha back on the wing.

United fans can’t believe what just happened to them

Losing to Palace? Losing to Hodgson? How dare we!

Will Tyrick Mitchell Get An England Cap?

on the basis of today's performance, I would say yes! Still has work to do, but I really like him as a player.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Man U 1 - Palace 3

Who is your Motm?

Best Performance Since Promotion?

imo YES. absolutely brilliant, can't fault anyone. Mitchell a little inexperienced at times which is fully understandable, but has the potential to be an England LB in the future imo. Zaha with two goals, fantastic. My personal MOTM would be Mccarthy, thought he was an absolute beast in that DM position. I've said my opinion about Roy, but he got it spot on this evening. 10/10 to all players and coaching staff, up the Palace!!!!!!!!

The “grassing” conundrum

It’s been a while since we’ve had a good Friday afternoon thread to kill some time so I thought I’d start one on the age old conundrum of when it’s ok to grass on someone.

Whilst out for my run I was half way across a narrow road when a Range Rover comes hurtling round the corner, almost taking me out, he then speeds off at prob 40 in a 20. I finally catch up to him as he’s parking his car in a bus stop opposite a School. At this point I was only contemplating shitting on his bonnet but then I noticed he had a disabled badge on his dash.

He proceeded then to open the boot, take out a folding chair and then plonk himself in the park to sunbath. Now he seemed more than able to walk and carry his chair and cooler no probs.

After doing my circuit, on my way back I noticed the douche was still in the park and worse someone who was in a wheelchair was unable to park on the road.

By this point I’d noticed to top it off he had a number plate that spelled out “FELLA”.

At what point is it ok to grass this guy for taking the piss with a disabled badge and being a cock?

Press Conference Live: Pre-Man Utd Thursday 1:30pm

Missed this yesterday but here's the summary from the club Twitter feed...

Roy: We are starting to get players back from injury. Mamadou is the latest to be back. Benteke and Wickham took part in today's session and we hope that Jairo will return tomorrow.

Roy: Nathaniel Clyne is being tested before coming to train with the group. He's likely to begin Monday.

Roy: I'm certain Manchester United are going to have a good season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be pleased with the job he's done so far.

Roy: Michy Batshuayi has added enormous competition to the attacking line. Zaha did well up there on Saturday.

Roy: Manchester United have progressed since our victory at Old Trafford last season. They've added some quality players.

And that's it for the broadcast section! Stay tuned on To view the link you have to Register or Login for the press conference in full.

Trust Meeting With Club

The Trust held a Zoom meeting with the Club on 17 September pm.

The Club referred to the unprecedented times and the financial commitments being made in terms of the Academy, the new stand (awaiting the Mayors approval) and player purchases, the lack of match day and advance season ticket income and the effects on tv monies.

The Trust referred to its open e-mail to the Club regarding the recent arrangements for the sale of season tickets. In the e-mail the Trust urged the Club to make certain changes as soon as possible. In brief these were:-

1) to extend the deadline for renewal of tickets until the end of the month while also providing any details possible of the Club's response plan to Covid 19 to allow fans to make an informed decision.
2) to extend the defer to 2021/22 option to everyone.
3) to provide partial refunds (for matches not attended) within 14 days.
4) to re-introduce the Direct Debit option for those fans who are unable to pay up front.

The Club acknowledged the points made in support of these proposals but had decided not to change the current position in any way. It indicated that the deadline had already been extended and that the deferral option was now open to over 65's. A further week would be given for 'save your seat' but no other alterations were envisaged.

At the end of the period others would be invited to apply for season tickets and movement of seats may be possible.

It was confirmed that as at the time of the meeting 12,000 season tickets had been renewed and 1000 deferrals applied for.

In respect of deferrals the Box Office would contact those who had applied and ask for a note of the situation dealing with them on a case by case basis.

They would not act in a 'Draconian' way and any fan whose case was rejected would receive a refund.

The only other change was a commitment to review the finance arrangements for those paying in installments at the end of the season.

Details of arrangements for reduced capacity games would follow central Government and ruling bodies advice but specific guidance relating to Selhurst Park could not yet be provided.

Frank de Boer to be named Holland Manager

Quote:

In the search for a new national coach, the KNVB ended up with Frank de Boer. In the meantime, an appointment has already been made to talk to the now unemployed trainer at very short notice.

The football association hopes to present a new national coach for the international matches against Mexico, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Italy. Previously, the selection of Orange would have put forward Henk ten Cate as a candidate, but that was immediately labeled as 'nonsense' by player Marten de Roon. Ten Cate would not have been approached at all by the KNVB.

"Palace set to send 'X' player on 2 year loan......what should the obligation fee be?

Following the Sorloth Saga (decent documentary title that), what would you set any future fee at if a club were obligated to buy after a season loan

Ignoring young players that we may want to keep after loans anyway, these are probably the players I think we/they would want to move on .

The basis is that they must play 50% of this season and the fee is set in stone, as with Sorloth. Contract situation is 1 year left on their deal when they return to us.

Benteke - The value of his final years contract would be enough for me. £6m
Wickham - If he played 50% for anyone, I would set the fee low as heck just to force the move. £2.5m max
Meyer - If we broke even on the length of his contract paid by us, I would say it was a gamble worth taking. £12-14m
Townsend - Accounting for age, I'd consider bids of £7.5 - 10m as acceptable
Sakho - As with Benteke, wages off the books with a little on top is the most I'd ask - £10m
Riedewald - Wouldn't particularly want him to leave now, but he may, and with age still on his side any future fee would need to be around £12m to make it seem like a reasonable risk, he could be a £20m midfielder with regular game time in Europe, he could be no better than he's shown here.

Will the club take the opportunity during COVID to rebuild a stand?

mercredi 16 septembre 2020

Watching the Union Berlin game and it looks like they’re rebuilding a stand. Smart idea considering there won’t be any fans let in the stadium for a while. Are we planning to do the same?

1 Goal in 2 Games

well we've bought in attacking reinforcements in Eze and Bats but good old Roy STILL has us averaging half a goal per game. Even under Peter Taylor the football wasn't this shite ... I mean it probably was, but come on I'm bored as **** seeing us defend defend defend every bloody game and nick a 1-0 win, draw 0-0 or lose 1-0. Watching Palace under Hodgson is so damn boring, and totally unnessecary with this squad. I appreciate that staying in the league is top priority, but surely there's a better way than the current rubbish Roy is serving up.

PES 2021(PES 2020 Full Update)

The new PES 2020 Update was released yesterday and is a complete game for the bargain price of £24.99.

Basically it is an improved and updated version of PES 2020 and the game tweaks and updated teams and rosters make it great value for money as you do not need to have PES 2020 to play it as it is a game in its own right.

The game-play changes significantly improve the game especially the ball control.

This is probably one of the bargains of the year for the money and the best football game just got better.

My Rating is 10/10

Unchanged, with Eze, Batshuayi and Milivojevic off the bench?

Suggestion: Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Yes, I know he has a long standing back problem that needs to be managed, and he's had his fair share of serious injuries. He's also currently wedded to Chelsea. However on Monday night he flunked his big opportunity at No10. They have Havertz, Ziyech, Pulisic, CHO, Mount, Barkley with several due back in the coming weeks. He's not going to get the game time there. He liked it at Palace.

It may dawn on him eventually, as he loses his place in the England squad, that his career is going nowhere at Chelsea. If he really wants to continue his career rather than just take the money, he will have to move on.

We are supposedly looking for a centre mid. He has played as a holding mid before, he did well under FdB on the right side of midfield and also on the left under Hodgson in our current 4-4-2. He is not a No10, he wants to play box-to-box. He is 6'3", physical with a good passing range and ball-carrying ability. He could play next to one of our defensive mids further down the line if we were willing to be more expansive.

I'm not saying we go for him in this window, but perhaps in January when he becomes disillusioned with what is happening at Chelsea we might have a chance? Permanent transfer only please.

Memory lane stuff from my subbuteo book

See if this is of interest or not. probably not.... :0

Anyway - clearing out the loft for the umpteenth time but this time forced by having to have a new roof I came across an old school Maths exercise book that I had used (don't report me to my teacher :)) to keep lists of team sheets/squads for every team in all 4 divisions at the time. Meticulously copied from Goal (I think) or Shoot, these will be drawn form a series of matches and then updated where I realised that some key players were missing. Starts with Aldershot and ended with York City. Sure there could be arguments about some of them but they will be pretty accurate because as this post shows I was football bonkers and spent a lot of time on it.

Sad I know, but I then proceeded to play myself (playing both sides 5 mins each way) the entire season's worth of fixtures including cup matches. Pre dates Football manager and very sad. Don't ask me about the cricket...... Pretty sure Palace had a good year, running away with every trophy (OK we were lucky and Gerry Queen was on a hot streak )

Anyways, I have every team for that year but can't actually remember which year it was although my guess is that it was 1970/71 season. I was 15 and football still dominated my days/nights.

So feel free to make requests if you want to know how Reading were lining up back then, Leicester or Millwall.

To tease - back then Leeds United were lining up with the team I could have reeled off anyway without the books still as it was awesome and still has some of 'non-palace favourites' in it.

Sprake, Reaney, Cooper, Bremner, Charlton, Hunter, Lorimer, Clarke, Jones, Giles, Gray and Madeley the ultimate utility player that literally played in every position for Leeds including as keep I believe. !00% in every other position. Even turned out to be good at decorating! Those were the days when you had to have a job when you retired. :)

I have 29 palace players in the book if you fancy a guess but no cheating. There is little point in checking your Google skills. :)

Enjoy. It has brought a few memories back - not least my glued up Gerry Queen figure that had an amazing body swerve on it. Queen of the Palace......

When were we last in the relegation zone?

May be wrong here but I don’t think we have entered into the bottom three for well over a season. Wonder when the last time was? Definitely a very promising sign in terms if where the club is now. More often than not looking up rather than down.

Crystal Ball: Bournemouth away (Caraboa cup)

5. Cup matches this year (as last year) will be judged on the result of the match before any penalties. Therefore if you choose a draw and it goes on to penalties a draw is the result we will award points on.

Your predictions for tomorrow night please.
score and scorers.

Crystal Ball: 2020/21 season ongoing thread

Crystal Ball Ongoing Thread 2020/2021

To anyone new to this, it's all very simple. Basically each week someone will start a new thread (you don't need to wait for us to do so; feel free to start your own) in which you are asked to predict the score of the forthcoming Palace match. Simply enter your prediction on the thread - the score, the scorers, and the attendance. Scoring is as follows:

1. You get 3 points for correctly predicting the score of each match.
2. You get 1 point if you predict the correct result, but get the score wrong.
3. If you correctly predict the score, you will also get 1 point for each goalscorer you correctly predict. (To retain parity with anyone who correctly predicts a 0-0 draw, we will award a total of 4 points for that correct prediction).
4. You get 2 points if you are the closest to predicting the attendance figure. Additionally, everyone whose prediction is within 100 gets 1 point (therefore 3 points if you were closest and within 100). If you are within 101-200 you will get a bonus point. (A bonus point only counts at the end of the season in the event of a tie). not going to be counted until all fans allowed back in (not partial crowds)
5. Cup matches this year (as last year) will be judged on the result of the match before any penalties. Therefore if you choose a draw and it goes on to penalties a draw is the result we will award points on.

Please note the latest allowable time to post predictions is a minute prior to kick-off time. However, for an attendance punt or the scorers to be valid, the post must be made at least an hour before the kick off.

There is also a final position prediction thread already started and also a Kiwi Cumulator thread started that you can score points from.

Finally the first match day thread has been started by me today.

Palace 2020

Feels like disputing against BLM is a sin on these boards. When I saw the political undertones on the banners on the empty Selhurst Park today it made me sick. Why is our club supporting a Marxist divisive organisation? Disgusting. I know most Palace folk are woke and all. I didn't see any other club doing the whole BLM thing. I'll be Palace for life but not other club did that shit on the banners.

Our experience on Saturday around Selhurst

Hope you enjoy our little video. Also, there's an amazing new mural near the ground!

Quite surreal being in such an empty pub too. Just not used to it on a match-day.

We thought we'd try and get as geographically close as possible to Selhurst Park as we could. It was a bit of a mad idea but in the end it was worth it. Had a good laugh in the pub too.

We had fun. It was definitely more fun than watching it at home, in any case.

Anyone seen this old style football?

Hi all,

I was gifted a Crystal Palace football some years ago. See attached photo. It’s pretty classy, nice leather and not a scratch or a scuff.

I’m thinking of listing it on eBay but I’m not even sure how to describe it. It’s almost like it was an item of club shop merchandise that evaded me!

Any ideas would be very welcome.

Thanks

Seán

Suggested Team and Formation For: Bournemouth

dimanche 13 septembre 2020

Hennessey
Woods - Kelly - Inniss - Mitchell
Meyer - Milivojevic - Riedewald - Eze
Batshuayi - Schlupp

Henderson, Ward, Dann, Kouyate, McArthur, Zaha, Ayew

Very worried about that defence, but if we’re making wholesale changes to ease the congested fixture list, then that’s that! Hoping Riedewald is fit too.

I can imagine Bournemouth will also be making a lot of changes to their line up, having 8 more games than us this season.

Loan: Youth Loans

The Sun linking Scott Banks with a loan move to Rochdale and John-Kymani Gordon to Bradford.

Banks Would link up with former Palace youth player Kwadwo Baah.

Speculation: Luis Henrique

Is Palace going to become the new goto club for Brazilian agents to flog their players?

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Don't read Portuguese but according to Google Translate, here is what the article says:

Quote:

Crystal Palace is delighted with Luis Henrique and prepares to attack the striker from Botafogo; business model is disclosed

Luís Henrique is one of the biggest recent revelations of Brazilian football. Although young, the striker has a great personality and has become very important for the Botafogo squad. The boy's technical leadership draws the attention of several European clubs, which are already beginning to move to try to get him out of General Severiano. For now, the Botafoguense board resists harassment.
...............................................
At 18, the athlete already drew attention from the grassroots categories. He quickly became a fan of the Glorious crowd. The good performances will only further increase the demand for teams from the Old Continent. Aware of this, the Botafoguense summit is already thinking about making the best deal possible to pocket good money. Crystal Palace wants to have the striker permanently and analyzes how he will be successful in negotiations.

"Who should League or Ireland fans support" extratime article …

Just found this on the 'extratime' Irish football site … they compare Irish League sides to PL ones. Thought it was quite funny …

"This weekend will see the return of one of Europe’s youngest leagues: the ‘Premier League’ was created as recently as 1992 in order to allow England’s top professionals to face each other on a regular basis.

It doesn’t have the history of the League of Ireland, which was created in 1921, but the fledgling ‘Premier League’ has steadily grown despite a weak domestic economy and non-membership of the European Union." ...

Shetland

jeudi 10 septembre 2020

The Shetland council has overwhelmingly voted for independence and wants to become a self governing Crown independence, subject to a referendum.

You would imagine that the SNP will support this if they believe that Scotland should have independence over the UK but how will they deal with the loss of the oil fields that Shetland will have claim over ?

Scotland already has the highest deficit in Europe losing more of its potential revenues is not going to help The SNP’s plight but will there case but you would think that they will be very supportive of Shetlands wishes based on what they think they want to achieve for themselves.

Best player you have seen in a Palace kit.

Got a reminder today about Lombardo, Jesus, this guy was head and shoulders above everyone else on the pitch!

(sorry I know it has been done before...but)

We have the team, not the manager

with Bats coming in on loan we have a mad exciting team up front and a solid base, unfortunately with a dinosaur manager. Isn't it time we made the decision (albeit a fairly brutal decision) to sack Roy and get someone in that will use our players in a slightly less tediously dull way?

Ayew - Zaha - Eze
Bats

is not a front four that should be in a team parking the double decker bus all bloody game as is Roy's style.

VAR

Football use to be so simple ,

Thought VAR was going to change with regard to off side decisions where a toe or finger etc would mean player is offside ?

New rules - including VAR
The Premier League agreed to revert to allowing only three substitutions per team for the upcoming campaign, with a maximum of seven subs on the bench.

They also outlined five key areas that highlight the difference in implementation of VAR for 20/21, as listed verbatim below:

Referee Review Area (RRA): Increased use of the RRA, which will be used for subjective decisions in the three key areas - goals, red cards and penalty kicks

Goalkeeper encroachment on penalty kicks: The protocol does not allow for tolerance levels, so if the goalkeeper saves a penalty and his foot is over the line then VAR will advise it is retaken. If the goalkeeper is off his line and the ball hits the post or goes over, it won’t be retaken unless the 'keeper has a material impact on the kick being missed

Player encroachment on penalty kicks: It is now judged on any part of a player’s body that is on the ground when the kick is taken. So if any part of the foot is on the penalty area or arc line it is encroachment. The player must still have a material impact on the outcome of the kick

Offsides: The protocol does not allow for tolerance levels

Keeping the flag down for tight marginal offside offences: When an immediate goalscoring opportunity is likely to occur, the assistant referee will keep their flag down until the passage of play is completed. Once the goalscoring opportunity is complete, either a goal is scored or the chance is gone, the assistant will then raise the flag to indicate the initial offence. If a goal is scored the VAR will then review the offside judgement

Which big earner should go first? (POLL)

With talk of more incomings and a big earning player leaving to free up more wages - who would you choose to go first?

Poll;

- Sakho
- Benteke
- Meyer

There is (of course) reasonable arguments for all three but I'd have to say Sakho because of the numerous injuries. When he's fit and match fit he's one of the first on the team sheet but it's too irregular for me. Max is still young and still think there's a player in there if we can open it up. Benteke, is well, Benteke but I still think he offers someone to the match day squad and gives you an alternative to what Bats brings. I also think he's been woefully starved of any service for a couple of years. Supply him in a good position and let's see what he can do.

Breville sandwich toaster

Does anybody still use one of these? I bought one on Amazon the other day just out of sentiment, not actually looking for one! (loved a cheese toastie) not had one of these since the 80's. Always remember they were a pain to clean but they now have removable plates, much easier. Still taste great although not the heathiest!

everyone contact the club / parish over ST disgrace

dreadful installment plan of 6% interest and £28 service fee, wanting the full amount of £400-500 (depending where you sit) for a season ticket even though we dont know how many games we will attend and waiting a year for a refund? we are basically lending the club money. what if we are in this situation next year? then what happens with the money? Charges per minute to call the box office and some people have been waiting over a hour, what is it 20p a minute?

its not been very well thought out and seems like total GREED. Times are hard, people have lost jobs / struggle with money due to this man made virus.

Simple option would be to offer us a "pay as you go" season ticket where we pay season ticket prices per game so it wont hit the bank so hard. Please tell me whats wrong with that? I think other clubs are doing this?

i myself have contacted the club regarding this and have had no reply at all.

As many people should contact the club / parish over this, has anyone had a successful reply? :wallbash::wallbash:

Im waiting for the people to stick up for the board regarding this but many ive spoke to and when i look online are against this.

Back of the Nest Podcasts - 2020/21

It's a new season and we're getting a new thread so we're not just constantly updating a thread with "18/19" and "Holmesdale Radio" in the title. All about the up-to-date brand awareness... or something.

So this year we've got the two main teams back - Preview and Review - with Diyar also doing a lot of stuff on YouTube, as he has been across the whole summer.

This will be the place we'll put updates on when the shows are up, what's discussed and such, but we also would love feedback, questions and debate on here too. Unless it is to abuse Albert and I for not drinking wanky craft beer.

Right, to that end, the first show by the Review Team is up, available on all podcast apps and Spotify, where Diyar, Hambo and Mike talk about the season ahead, including tactics and signings, and I believe a YouTube version will be up soon too.

Hooray!

Speculation: Tiemoue Bakayoko

Not really rumour, but this snippet from "The Boot Room" reports that the Telegraph has us in for this guy?

Everton were interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko before they secured Allan’s signature, with The Telegraph reporting that Crystal Palace are now monitoring the 26-year-old.

The Toffees have kicked into top gear in the market in recent days. They confirmed James Rodriguez’s move to Goodison Park this week. And that deal came just a couple of days after it was announced that they had also signed Allan from Napoli. As reported by BBC Sport, he has signed a three-year contract after agreeing a £21.7 million move.

Had they failed to sign to sign the Brazilian however, it appears that they may have gone after Chelsea midfielder Bakayoko.

It also conflates us wanting Gallagher, and talks about Bakayoko's £110k pw salary being an issue........

Crystal Ball: First Six Kiwicumulator 2020/21

Our eighth successive season in the the top division starts on Saturday.

As part of the Crystal Ball competition, we have two Kiwicumulators, one for the first six matches and another for the last six matches, which will be in April next year, with the season running through tot he end of May. Not sure when we will be playing in the FA Cup Final.

Credit to Hughff from New Zealand who created the*Kiwicumulator many years ago.*

Predictions must be in before KO on the first of these first six games, i.e. just before kick-off on at 3pm on Saturday 12th September.

Just Win/Draw/Loss for this: no need to predict the score, scorers or attendance. There will be individual threads for each match for that.

Crystal Ball points are awarded for:
no predictions right - bonus point
3 predictions right - 1 point
4 right - 3 points
5 right - 5 points
6 right - 7 points

The matches that are the subject of this*Kiwicumulator*will be the first six league games thus:
Southampton (H)
Manchester United (A)
Everton (H)
Chelsea (A)
Weed (H)
Fulham (A)

Get predicting.

Trail Walking

Any other distance walkers on here?

I’ve really got into it over the past couple of years, having found running marathons etc was taking more of a toll on my ageing bones.

I’ve done several of the 100km UltraChallenges (Jurassic Coast, Cotswold Way, Wye Valley and London to Brighton), and in October I’m doing the entire length of the North Downs Way - that’s 150+ miles from Farnham to Dover (including both sides of the loop) over 6 days.

I’ve been training by doing the monthly virtual challenges run by Ultra Challenge (300km a month in August and now September), which has been a great motivation to get out.....

Suggestion: Rico Henry

samedi 5 septembre 2020

With Van Aanholt coming into his 30's now and under a year remaining on his contract I think we need to look at long term options at left back. I appreciate Mitchell is there at the moment and I hope he comes through and does well. But a Premier League club should have more security in each position and I feel Henry would be an excellent addition especially with the way we're setting up right now.

It looks like Hodgson is opting back to that old 442 with the narrow midfielders allowing the full backs the width and freedom to get involved in the attacking play. From what I've seen of Henry he'd flourish in this system. Brentford supposedly value him at £7M which I think is great value.

Suggestion: Eddie Nketiah

Newcastle been linked with a loan for him.

Raw, but a treble for the under 21's, I think him and Gallagher on temporary basis would be good business

Ketchup as one for the future at the back

Racial Equality etc.

Worth a little debate this one, and I thought I would start a new thread.

As a somewhat personal joke I sometimes consider myself a black person inside a white skin. That is almost solely due to my tastes in music, and the fact I can dance like a mother fecker. Of course I am a lucky son of a bitch, born as a white Englishman speaking English etc. etc..

In recent years I have come across radical writings, interviews, and social media comments from people complaining about white appropriation of black culture. Some saying that whites shouldn't be allowed to like black music etc., to the point that it is even oppressive to black people for whites to steal the culture that doesn't belong to them.

Normally, I just ignore such crazy talk. But I saw this case of a white, jewish teacher in a black university and her attitude annoyed me somewhat..

To view the link you have to Register or Login

She is absolutely the wrong doer here, and admits it.

But as some from of self-justification she still tries to blame others for her failings..

Ms Krug described her behaviour as "the very epitome of violence, of thievery and appropriation, of the myriad ways in which non-Black people continue to use and abuse Black identities and cultures."

Personally, I think she's got some fecking front...

Discuss.

Discussion: PALACE WANT BOGA IF ZAHA LEAVES

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Crystal Palace are planning to sign former Chelsea winger Jeremie Boga, if Wilfried Zaha leaves Selhurst Park in this transfer window.

The two Ivory Coast wingers know each other well, with manager Roy Hodgson aware he’ll have to part with in excess of £30m if he is to land the 23-year old, who left Stamford Bridge for Sassuolo two years ago for just £3.5m.

A stellar season in Serie A has attracted the attention of a host of clubs across Europe with Napoli placing a £27m offer in the past 48 hours. This follows a £20m bid earlier this week from Rennes.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Southampton (home)

Obviously a week is a long time, but barring last minute purchases/sales and radical returns to fitness, the team could look something like this:

-------------------------Guaita----------------------------------
Ward---------Kouyate------------Dann------------Mitchell
Eze-----------McArthur--------McCarthy----------Schlupp
----------------Ayew--------------Zaha-----------------------

Subs:

Henderson
Kelly
Riedewald
Meyer
+3

I just think that Schlupp will play in an attacking capacity, and that means Eze will switch to the right (but with a free role, and freedom to drift into central positions). What are other people's thoughts?
