See if this is of interest or not. probably not.... :0
Anyway - clearing out the loft for the umpteenth time but this time forced by having to have a new roof I came across an old school Maths exercise book that I had used (don't report me to my teacher :)) to keep lists of team sheets/squads for every team in all 4 divisions at the time. Meticulously copied from Goal (I think) or Shoot, these will be drawn form a series of matches and then updated where I realised that some key players were missing. Starts with Aldershot and ended with York City. Sure there could be arguments about some of them but they will be pretty accurate because as this post shows I was football bonkers and spent a lot of time on it.
Sad I know, but I then proceeded to play myself (playing both sides 5 mins each way) the entire season's worth of fixtures including cup matches. Pre dates Football manager and very sad. Don't ask me about the cricket...... Pretty sure Palace had a good year, running away with every trophy (OK we were lucky and Gerry Queen was on a hot streak )
Anyways, I have every team for that year but can't actually remember which year it was although my guess is that it was 1970/71 season. I was 15 and football still dominated my days/nights.
So feel free to make requests if you want to know how Reading were lining up back then, Leicester or Millwall.
To tease - back then Leeds United were lining up with the team I could have reeled off anyway without the books still as it was awesome and still has some of 'non-palace favourites' in it.
Sprake, Reaney, Cooper, Bremner, Charlton, Hunter, Lorimer, Clarke, Jones, Giles, Gray and Madeley the ultimate utility player that literally played in every position for Leeds including as keep I believe. !00% in every other position. Even turned out to be good at decorating! Those were the days when you had to have a job when you retired. :)
I have 29 palace players in the book if you fancy a guess but no cheating. There is little point in checking your Google skills. :)
Enjoy. It has brought a few memories back - not least my glued up Gerry Queen figure that had an amazing body swerve on it. Queen of the Palace......
