Squad size

vendredi 31 janvier 2020

So now we’ve shipped out another senior player plus several young players where does that leave us in relates to squad size it must be at 22-24, surely palace aren’t that stupid to face the next 14 games with a depleted squad , will they end up doing exactly what Roy said he didn’t want and rely on loans and free transfers ? It certainly appears to be the case .

Match Updates: Feb 1/2

Leicester v Chelsea

Today let’s show Roy and the boys support

It’s not their fault our upper management are a ******* shambles as per usual. Is there a way of supporting our real “heroes “ while still being able to show displeasure at the ones in charge at the same time?

Parish is mugging us off !

When does it become apparent that our owners are raping our club !! Countless managers have left, we still like happy clappers support the 2010 consortium, when do we start to reject the way we have been run and hoodwinked !? Someone is making a mint out of us the fans and the club I love !? Where is the new main stand Parish !? Where are the signings ? Where has all the money gone !? We are pathetically loyal to a chairman and ideal that isn’t ever going to be delivered !!

Speculation: Roy wants 4-5 players (to leave)

You have to wonder what Roy is thinking given the effort to enable players to leave and the numerous failed attempts to bring in the players we require.

Missed out: When did we ever win a signing

I can't remember when we won a signing over another club, or a player choosing palace in preference to somone else. Our recruitment must be really uninspiring - just getting overpaid older players.

Chinese tourists in the Arthur

I expect the club won't bother filling up the soap or hand sanitiser units as per usual tomorrow in our stand, despite it being full of tourists and dangerously overcrowded. Hygiene in the stand must be appalling.

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after.

Seeking footy players for Monday evening friendly

Hi all,

I run a kick about on a Monday evening at Oasis Academy, Shirley Road (CR9 7AL). A couple of regulars have recently moved away, so we’re on the lookout for a couple more players.

A good group of lads ranging from 18 to late thirties in age. Very much an emphasis on it being a friendly. 8-9pm. AstroTurf surface. Subs are £4 a week - first game is free.

Drop me a PM if you’d like to join us. Cheers.

Humour: Final Day Who Will We Sign (If Anyone)

Our rep isn't great with players or managers is it?

Given the current struggles with convincing both Bowen and Ferguson to come to us I think we should probably **** them off and move onto other targets unless there is a glimmer of hope that it's agents negotiation posturing.

I then see this on twitter. Don't know if anyone else has seen it. But this just sums us up

To view the link you have to Register or Login

I mean I get that the blades are his club but they were a L1 club at the time. Without the moneybags owner they now have. While we were a prem club? Wilder, Bowen, Ferguson WTF?

Why does everyone else in the world of football that's not Palace think we are a jumped up L1 club? I don't get it. Is it because Selhurst has seen better days or something?

Interest rates, where are they going?

I know we have some of the finest economists of the 21st century on here. I'm looking at perhaps buying a property - and I can get a fixed rate mortgage for about 1.6%, or a variable at about 0.8% - these over 20 years. If it weren't because the Euribor's been so low for so long, and the underlying reasons, I guess, still looking set fair for quite a while, I would obviously go for the fixed - but I'm having doubts.
I have savings to the value of about two thirds of the cost of the property - i was planning to get a mortgage for about two thirds and so keep about half my dosh in savings.

Some boffin is bound to have some good ideas about what I should do - can any of you help?

New Five Year Plan fanzine out Saturday

Just to let you know that there will be a new FYP Fanzine #54 out on Saturday.

It will be on sale for £2 and we will have sellers at the top and bottom of Holmesdale Road and on Park Road, coming up from Norwood Junction. I will try to get a seller at the Whitehorse Lane End of the ground too.

As well as an interview from Perth with Tony Popovic and features with Matt Woosnam and Palace fans across Europe there are also differing views on how the season is going: 1) Is Roy one of our greatest managers ever? 2) Has he been let down by Steve Parish and the other owners? 3) Is watching Palace this season like pulling teeth.

I read quite a bit of the BBS and quite enjoy the differences of opinion. If you would like to express an opinion on any topic Palace-related then please let me know. That could be on the style of play; thoughts on the club charging fans for streams and also having to pay a full adult cost to upgrade a child season ticket for an individual game to an adult one; the owners' reluctance to put their hands in their pockets - anything.

Give the fanzine a try and feel free to contribute.

Thanks, Tom

Has anyone been to see Brooklyn Nets play...?

I'm going to New York in March and want to take in a bit of American sport.

I've always fancies going to watch a basketball game. Knicks aren't playing while we're there so we thought we would go and see Brooklyn Nets play instead.

Has anyone been? If so, could anyone suggest best way to get tickets and where to sit?

Cheers

InOnTen

Hi all

I hope you don't mind me posting on here.

Around 2 weeks ago I created a twitter page called 'InOnTen' after reading multiple tweets regarding the need for an organised, meaningful but peaceful protest against the use of VAR in the Premier League. Many people stated that they would be willing to participate in a realistic protest however there was a need for an exact protest idea and dates for such a protest to be communicated to each fanbase.

The account is advocating the idea that fans enter the stadiums of all Premier League matches in the 10th minute on the weekend of the 22nd February. That weekend, Palace host Newcastle. Palace fans do seem generally anti-VAR and some have responded to the twitter page. Anti-VAR chants can often be heard when viewing Burnley on TV/MOTD, aswell as some good displays by the Holmesdale Fanatics. I am therefore hoping that Palace fans will play a big part in the protest.

I was wondering what the general feeling is among the Palace fanbase would be regarding this idea, and if people on this forum would be willing to participate. Also, if are there any other forums, twitter pages or fan groups who I should speak to, or you would be happy to speak to regarding this idea in order to raise awareness among the Palace fanbase. It is the easy thing to do to say ‘Not enough people will do it’, or ‘It won’t work’ but as fans we have to come together, get as many active fan groups involved as possible, and a meaningful protest is more than possible.

All the best,

InOnTen

A foreign object in my bread

I've just found what appears to be a small spring about 15mm long which looks similar to the small spring that you find in a biro, in a slice of bread I was eating. Any advice on whether to just chuck it in the bin or take it to the supermarket and see if they offer me a refund on the loaf or maybe a £20 voucher. Anyone had similar? Any advice?

Rumour: Michael Sparkes

We are all over Scottish youth prospects by the look of it ! Clear strategy to bolster the U23s and plan for the future.

Rumour: Adil Rami

lundi 27 janvier 2020

Two years on from the last time he was linked, this from The Athletic:

Quote:

French World Cup winner Adil Rami hopes to secure a move to the Premier League before the closure of the transfer window.

The 34-year-old defender was pursued by Arsenal last summer following discussions with his former manager at Sevilla, Unai Emery.

Instead, he joined Turkish side Fenerbahce, where he has since made only five appearances.

Interest in Rami so far has mainly come from the Championship, with Derby County leading the race to sign him ahead of another unnamed club.

Rami, however, hopes to play in the Premier League and Crystal Palace are considering making an offer for him.

Capped 36 times by France, Rami launched his career with Lille in France before spells with Valencia, Milan, Sevilla and Marseille, from where he was sacked in August after missing training to take part in a mud wrestling competition in French gameshow, Fort Boyard. Earlier in the summer, he had split from Pamela Anderson, the former Baywatch star and his girlfriend of two years.
We're clearly short of centre-backs, and at eight days younger than Cahill, he's a veritable spring chicken. What's not to like?

Suggestion: Shrewsbury's Josh Laurent

Watching the FA Cup game between Shrewsbury and Liverpool. This guy looks quality, only 24. Absolutely bossed the midfield today. He reminds me of a harder working, tackling RLC in the the way he carries the ball, great throughballs and looks brilliant in attack. Perhaps a bid for this tenacious box to box midfielder who would likely be quite cheap then a loan back to Shrewsbury to help them in their FA cup campaign because we are sweet like that:D

According to Voetbal International, PSV Eindhoven have made a move to sign Patrick van Aanhoilt from Crystal Palace.

PSV are keen to add a new left-back to their squad this month and moves for Ricardo Rodriguez and Thomas Ouwejan have failed.

According to Voetbal International, PSV have now set their sights on a move for Patrick van Aanholt.

Crystal Palace have rejected PSV’s first offer for the Dutchman and are asking for around €10 million.

Van Aanholt has another 18-months left on his contract with the Premier League side.

Organ donation rule change

samedi 25 janvier 2020

In the spring the rules around organ donation are changing to opt out rather than in.
To view the link you have to Register or Login

I am quite happy for any serviceable parts(there won't be many)I have to be used to help someone else in there life.
Listening to Essex radio in the week there was a programme on it that really made me think about it,very touching in places. What was really startling was the amount of people on the dead list(waiting for an organ from a dead person rather than a donation from a living person, usually a relative)Can't remember the numbers but it's big, hence the rule change.

How do you feel about donating body parts?

Is the BBS under attack?

With IT being so critical to companies today they invest huge amounts to stop the bad guys getting in and stealing user data and the magic credit card numbers. They are also attacked to deny service and it got me wondering how much the BBS gets hit. I presume, and I'm not asking for details, that it has decent defences but are we being hit? Does our defence mean we have to spend more and more on keeping it that way and are the donations still keeping our heads above water?

Devoted football fans experience 'dangerous' levels of stress

jeudi 23 janvier 2020

To view the link you have to Register or Login

I find this very easy to believe. I remember Ian Hart saying after he had health issues that he made a conscious decision not to watch/listen to the Hillsborough (?) game as he felt the stress would be dangerous. Instead he pottered around the house or some-such and said he had no regrets.

On a related level, one of the reasons I stopped directing plays was because of the stress - again, emotionally bonded to but unable to affect the result. It got so bad I couldn't watch my own work and would hide outside the theatre.

Repairing paint chips on a car

Had a bit of a boo boo on my vehicle. I accidentally hit the tailgate open button on the key fob when the vehicle was in the garage with the door closed. The edge of the tailgate hit one of the hinges on the garage door and chipped the paint.

Anyway, doing some research there appears to be a UK product called "Chipex" that seems to be highly recommended. Looking at YouTube videos it looks pretty easy to use, and have somewhat successful results, although not perfect.

I've used plain old touch-up paint in the past, and not liked the results, but this product certainly seems to be better than that. It's not cheat at around $50 for the smallest kit, but certainly cheaper than taking it to a body shop.

Question: Has anyone used this, or another product that will cover/fix stone chips or small edge damage on their cars?

Where's deanchilds when you need him?

Throw ins

Something that really has annoyed me of late is how shocking we are at throw ins. We always lose possession from our throw ins and let the opposition easily retain the ball from theirs. Do they never practice this?

We never have anyone show for the ball so the thrower is just forced to throw it up the line into a melee of heads where we inevitably lose it and we don't mark tightly enough when the opposition have a throw so they just retain possession with ease.

I'd love to see some stats from the Southampton game on possession following throws, i imagine they'd be shocking.

We have struggled a lot of late to get hold of the ball in all our games so this is an important thing to get right. Just like set pieces it needs to be relentlessly practiced and just like our success from set pieces it leaves a lot to be desired.

I know Roy likes to drill the team relentlessly but is it the case he's so busy doing that he's ignoring these fairly essential aspects of the game??

Why have Palace become so poor at passing(forward) and crossing

Considering that Palace once had Glenn Murray scoring 31 goals in a season (many from crosses) Johnson who was prolific for 2-3 seasons (being played in from good balls) and going back even further the likes of Freedman/Morrison who also received the ball regularly in good positions, I remain baffled as to why we have become so poor at delivering the ball forward, or just crossing the damn thing accurately on a regular basis.

Roy is renown for repetitive training in defensive formations and play etc, but we don't seem to employ the same amount of effort offensively.

Whilst I appreciate some may consider the likes of Macca, McCarthy and Kouyate as not exactly creative pass masters, I fail to see why the likes of Brighton, and Southampton can excel at something pretty basis, and probably honed by repetitive training routines, whilst we can't. We saw McCarthy put a great through ball to Wilf against Man City, but that was just the once, whereas our opposition puts these dangerous balls in time and time again (Derby kept on doing it it in the FA Cup match)

Likewise with crossing the ball. Obviously with Townsend absent it leaves a big hole, Ward is probably the best crosser of a ball, the likes of Schlupp and PVA seem to like to do so at speed and low on the deck where it gets cut out, and as for Wilf...he seems to have a spot on the goal line (about 5metres from the first post) which he aims for and usually wont release it (if at all) until he gets there. No wonder our front guys get so few chances.

At the moment we prefer to do lots of tippy-tappy push and run against defences to get forward, but that only works when the likes or PVA, Schlupp, Townsend and Meyer are fit and on song. With most of those guys out, we now seem to just to rely on mass defence sucking people forward and then hoping that Wilf and Ayew can conjure a bit of magic to beat a load of players.

However with the forwards we have, a midfield properly drilled in releasing good forward balls should reap dividends. Is this something that Roy and Ray struggle with?

Strangely only Sakho seems to be able to provide constant accurately struck forward balls, and he's barely played this season

Hopefully we'll have a re-juvenated Luka back next match, and he seems to be the best we have in midfield for distribution, but we certainly will need to improve in this area if Wilf goes at the end of the season

Football accounting question

mercredi 22 janvier 2020

I have a question about amortisation of player contracts which I’m hoping one of the accountants on here can answer. Does amortisation only happen on the initial purchase of a player? So, if a player is purchased for £10m on a 4 year contract then there will be an amortisation of £2.5m in the next 4 years of accounts? What happens if the player signs a new 4 year contract some time in that period, is that reflected anywhere other than in the wages costs? Thanks.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Sheffield United

All the players will get a good rest having missed out on the next round of the cup.

There’s also plenty of time for our returning players to recover. All players offer something that is lacking something from our line up at the moment. Sakho can split midfields from his passing. Schlupp, Townsend and PVA all offer directness and pace also, something we’re missing in abundance.

Hopefully if all these can get fit, then Roy is right, it will feel like 4 new signings.

We’ll have to wait and see but our strongest line up potentially:

Guaita
Ward - Cahill - Sakho - van Aanholt
McArthur - Milivojevic - Riedewald
Townsend - Ayew - Zaha

Hennessey, Kelly, Tomkins, Kouyate, McCarthy, Schlupp, Tosun

Of course the strongest line up is subjective but absentees include Dann, Meyer, Benteke and Wickham. We’re not in a bad place in terms of squad depth, just unlucky.

We’ll have to wait til nearer the time to see if we’ll be getting them back.

Food at the Palace

This may sound like a minor gripe after last night's performance but does anybody else feel angry about the catering at SP? As a season ticket holder that has been supporting the club since the early 60s, I feel taken for granted. We get messed about with fixtures being changed to suit TV scheduling, we turn out in all weathers, spend a lot of money supporting the club and end up (in my opinion) being ripped off to boot with the quality and cost of food! I'm not mean with money but £5 for a burger, £4.50 for a hot dog, £2.50 for chips that have the consistency of cardboard . . . . it's not on. If anything, I'd like to see our support acknowledged with decent prices and decent food, not taken advantage off in order to make a few more bob off of us. If the can pay players over £100k per week would it hurt to give us a break and give us a little something back? Rant over, I just had to get it off my chest!

Nokia 3450 replacement battery

Hello all,

I have an old Nokia 3450 (don't ask ;))

The phone is fine, but the battery constantly dies after about 20 minutes, so I regularly find myself speaking into thin air, and then hunting for a power point to finish the conversation and recharge the battery. Many people have told me the battery needs replacing. I'm finding it harder than expected to identify and buy the right replacement battery.

Can anyone help me identify the right one please? From an initial search, it looks as thought it should cost £5 - £10 ish.

Rumour: Josh Brownhill

From To view the link you have to Register or Login:

Bristol City are considering a player plus cash deal with Burnley for captain Josh Brownhill, which would include Nahki Wells moving in the opposite direction, TEAMtalk understands.

The Robins do not want to lose Brownhill, but the player has a release clause in his contact which kicks in at the end of the season – so they know they also can’t stop him from leaving come the summer.

Brownhill has become a key player under Lee Johnson, but his form has not gone unnoticed and it is not just Burnley – with Bournemouth, Southampton, Brighton, Crystal Palace and Leicester also showing a keen interest.

But it is Sean Dyche’s men who are in pole position, and whilst City are not keen on selling Brownhill – the Clarets have a trump card in the shape of Bermudan star Wells.

Wells is currently one of the top-scorers in the Championship, where he is on-loan with QPR – but Burnley have the option of recalling him this month, and then sending him elsewhere.

And Burnley are indeed ready to bring back Wells and send him to Ashton Gate along with around £3million to land Brownhill, but it remains to be seen if a deal can be agreed.

This idiot ignores the fact that we've been defensively good for three seasons ever since Roy turned up. Being defensively good is the only consistent part of our team. Vicente is incredibly consistent he had similar numbers in La Liga he has been one of the best GKs for shot stopping in his league for three seasons.

Having most of our squad injured and 20 goals a season out injured might just possibly be related to the fact that we are scoring **** all at the moment and haven't actually been all that good. What el twato misses is that last season when we had a fit team plus competent striker across the second half of the season we were fourth in the form guide.

It's frankly incredible we are were we are given the total lack of interest from our board in supporting our manager and our crippling injury list. Today the luck ran out and the sun did not come up.

How do I put this succinctly.....WTF!

I've had a season ticket for the past 3-4 seasons so I've been out of tthe casual fandom game for a while now but I swear last time I was going to a handful of games a season I could pick tickets up for £25-£30??

They want £40 minimum to go and watch us toil against Southampton on a Tuesday night! It's ludicrous. When did the prices ramp up to that extent? I'm sure it can't be supply and demand because the ground never seems sold out like it was in the first few years back in the Prem...

Next 7 games (starting with Saints at home)

Following on from Bubbs previous thread/poll before the last set of 'easier' games here we go with another 7 which hopefully should see reach/surpass the 40 point mark & safe by the end, if not before.

The question is, how many points do you think we'll get in the next 7 games?

Here's the games in question.

Southampton (H)
Sheff Utd (H)
Everton (A)
Newcastle (H)
Brighton (A)
Watford (H)
Bournemouth (A)

This will then leave the remaining 8 games which include Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea, Leicester, Man Utd, Wolves etc so we would hope we have accumulated enough by then.

Guess away guys and gals.

Long history of Palace V Southampton

I read somewhere that this will be our 120th game against Southampton, but I can not remember where. I saw a list of 89 games against them on the Holmesdale.net site, but that only goes back to 1921. So this will be our 90th game against them since 1920/21 season.

Our first ever game in the Southern League Second Division back in September 1905 was against Southampton Reserves.

It then looks as we though we played them every season (in SLI) until WWI so that is another 22 games which makes 112 games in total.

Does anyone know how many times we have played them and if we have played any teams more than them?

Discussion: Freedman's signings

I am probably in a minority but I believe Dougie has been an incredible asset for Palace in terms of recruitment.

To properly analyse his record we need to look at his signings in the round. Obviously some of these may be board, manager, or scout influenced but below are all the signings 'under his watch' as far as I know/remember.

I am bound to have missed a few though and got bits wrong so please copy paste and correct.

As manager

Alex Marrow (nominal)
Ward 400k
Jermain Easter (nominal)
Jedinak Free
KG 600k
Andre Moritz (free)
Bolasie 200k rising to 700k
Delaney Free
Glen Murray Free

As Director of football

January 18
Jach 1.5 million
Sorloth 9 million
Rakip unknown loan fee

Season 18/19
Kouyate 9.5 million
Meyer Free
Guita Free
Batshuyai 1million loan fee
Sako Free

Season 19/20

Ayew 2.5 million
McCarthy 1.5 million
Cahill Free
Tosun unknown, loan fee 17million to purchase?
Camarassa unknown loan fee

On the basis of the above I would say pretty much every season has seen superb signings for an amazing aggregate transfer fee. Only that first window as D of F was poor, with Sorloth not being a bad signing IMHO but a terrible, terrible price.

As I said do copy and paste in a more complete list, and of course comment.

Lawro on Palace

I'm not sure how many Palace fans look for Mark Lawrenson's Premier League predictions each week. If they have, they will surely have noted that Lawro has predicted a loss for Palace in each of the last six matches. As a result, in his table (i.e. where all teams would be had his predictions been accurate) we are second bottom:

He usually says something quite complimentary about the Team ('hard to beat', 'well organised' etc) before predicting a narrow defeat - well, 0-3 yesterday. It has to be said that he is equally tough on Sheffield United.

It's just a bit of fun of course, and to be honest I hope he does keep forecasting defeats. It's quite fun seeing the +/- total of actual against predicted position increase week by week.

Rumour: Aaron Hickey

From To view the link you have to Register or Login:

CRYSTAL PALACE will outbid Celtic in the £1.5million race for young Hearts left-back Aaron Hickey.

The Eagles are happy to buy the versatile 17-year-old, who can also play in central midfield, then loan him back to the Tynecastle club for the rest of the season.

Celtic also fancy lifelong Hoops fan Hickey, who was released by the club as a kid.

But they are reluctant to go to the asking price.

They are entitled to 30 per cent of any profit Hearts make on him, though, so will benefit if Palace get their man.

Hickey is keen to play and may have to wait at Celtic while the Eagles’ offer lets him continue in the Hearts’ first team.

Palace want to make it a double Scotch by signing midfielder Scott Banks, 18, from Dundee United on a pre-contract.

The teen refuses to pen a new deal at Tannadice.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Don't agree with everything in the article but interesting points.

Quote:

Corbyn, meanwhile, began to win grudging praise from the guardians of established opinion for his willingness to coordinate the resistance. Yet this was, precisely, his undoing. Cummings’s plan had always been to win by losing. The point of the parliamentary drama was to reduce Corbyn—whose entire appeal had been based on the fact that he did not look, act, or calculate like a politician—into someone who did exactly that, and to paint the only movement in generations that had genuinely aimed to change the rules of British society as the linchpin of an alliance of professional-managerials united only by their willingness to deploy every legalistic or procedural means possible in order to reverse the results of a popular referendum and keep things exactly as they were.

If the results of the 2019 election mean anything, they reveal an overwhelming rejection of centrism. Particularly instructive here are the fates of the rebels who broke from Corbyn’s Labour to form Change UK, including Chuka Umunna, who was widely billed as Britain’s future answer to Barack Obama. On realizing that there was virtually no support for another centrist party, they ultimately joined the Lib Dems. Though the Lib Dems did increase their share of the overall vote (slightly), doing so largely served to knock out their ostensible Remainer Labour allies in close races. Not one of the defectors managed to win a seat.

Jo Swinson, the Lib Dem candidate for prime minister, who had somehow convinced herself it would be a winning formula for the Lib Dems to run as a single-issue anti-Brexit party while also making clear that under no conditions would they ever form an alliance with Corbyn’s Labour, failed to win her own district and is no longer an MP. Labour lost fifty-four seats to the Tories—fifty-two of them in Leave-voting districts. But, as James Schneider, Corbyn’s director of strategic communications, confirmed when I showed him a draft of this piece, only three (Dennis Skinner, Laura Pidcock, and Laura Smith) were from the radical left of the party. Dozens of “moderates” had, effectively, blown themselves up.

The same, incidentally, is true for the Tories: not one of the purged Remainers who ran for their old seats as independents returned to Parliament.

The center of British politics has become a smoldering pit. The country is now being governed by a hard-right government placed in power by its oldest citizens, in the face of the active hatred of its increasingly socialist-inclined youth. It’s fairly clear that for the Johnson team, Brexit was never anything but an electoral strategy, and that they don’t have the slightest idea how to translate it into economic prosperity. (It is an unacknowledged irony of the current situation that the people most likely to profit from the Brexit process are, precisely, lawyers—and, probably secondarily, accountants. For everyone else, it’s hard to imagine a scenario where they will improve their current situation, and quite easy to imagine Johnson being remembered as one of the most disastrous prime ministers in British history.)

The next few years are likely to be tumultuous. What remains to be seen is whether Labour can fully break from of the trap into which past generations of centrists have placed it: as a party that represents the interests and sensibilities of both carers and administrators at the same time.

The 25-year-old alleges men in the crowd called on the referee to "check the gender" of several Palace players.

Palace TV's four part history.

Don't think anyone has mentioned this yet ?
Comes across as a promotional video initiated by people looking to sell the club ! Can't think of another motive !
Wish they'd have included Wilf's play-off semi goals and also take issue that we didn't qualify for Europe when we finished third because there weren't as many places for English clubs then. Always thought it was because the Scouse hooligans had caused everyone to be banned.

Wish - online retail app

mercredi 15 janvier 2020

Hi, this may be a dumb question but I get bombarded with online Adverts from WISH whenever I check FB and just about everything looks ridiculously cheap. is this for real or just a neat way to capture a huge database of credit card and user information? I am pretty aware of anything that looks too good and so have stared away because it rarely turns out to be safe. I did quick dig around online and it seems connected to the alibaba ceo but I am not sure that’s making me any more comfortable.

Anyone else using this or know if it’s ok to use. I know one person that uses it but tbh after asking them about it they have no idea but just signed up because things were free. Right..... so how many times does that happen? And how well does it typically end up? Did I say I was sceptical? :)

Anyone know anything ?

It’s a bloody minefield out there.

Anyone ever bought a ski apartment in the alps?

I found one that I'm interested in as a little family place and rent out to friends at cost covering prices. My question is, did you haggle on the price? If the price is 100K would you start with 10% off and expect to get 5% or is this simply a non movable thing over there. Any advice welcome. Not a leaseback btw.

Deleting a 'Sandbox' File.

I have had a file PKinstallSandbox.4dwjwg sitting in the Trash on my MacBook Pro for months. I can't delete it and get a message that it is 'in use' whenever I try. I can't open it either and am told that I don't have permission.

What is it and how do I get rid of it?

Which player has scored the most in games you have attended?

Which player has scored the most in games you have attended?

I've asked a few folks all aged between 35 and 55 and it's been a right mix of answers.

Trying to work out my own answer and it'll be between Freedman and Morrison.

Started going in 88, regular home games from 1990 onwards and then nearly every game 1993-2001.

By that rationale I didn't see enough Wright & Bright; copped a whole load of Armstrong and Dougie goals; with a flurry of Clinton 1998-2001. Since moving away from London my 2-3 games a season meant I missed most of the AJ and Murray glory days. Bizarrely I've seen as many Thomas Ince goals as Glenn Murray! Also as many Klinsmann goals (for Spurs) as Gareth Taylor!

If this was aimed at Newcastle fans, the answer would be pretty unanimous. Likewise Arsenal fans going this century (Henry) whereas last century it'd be Wright.

Because we've had a decent set of strikers good for 3-5 year periods rather than a decade, it's a very mixed set of answers.

Murray, Wright, Bright, Armstrong, AJ, Dougie, Dyer (specifically if you went 1996-98 and never again!) Clinton, Swindlehurst, Peter Simpson (!!?) Who's your goal king?

Taking your BBS persona to other websites

We have a kind of neighborhood watch bulletin board for news of crimes, lost and found, events, suggestions etc... Also, the local newspaper has one where you can leave comments at the end of an article. Much like this BBS most discussions end up getting political and abusive. Trouble is the people posting are not as good as it as members of this good ship.

I tried to keep off of there, but sometimes it’s very hard to resist pinging back at some of the nitwits posting on there. So, like a true keyboard warrior, I’ve started posting responses to some of them using my best BBS sarcastic, irreverent persona I can muster. Funny thing is they become very indigent and become very defensive – on the whole they don’t know how to handle it. Take them out of the “Praying for you” Facebook format and they are stumped.

It’s amazing how many people can politicize a car break-in or a car accident. Also, you get the little suck ups who endorse the right-wing wackos, who go off at tangents with their not so very subtle agendas. Racial, Trump supporting, gun toting undertones are rampant.

The BBS has taught me well, and about 20 years of posting on here has been good practice for responding to some of these nut jobs! Do some research, and hit them with facts is always a good response. Oh, and acting as the grammar police usually upsets them pretty good!

Anyone have similar experiences with posting on other websites not football related? And if so, do you use the same cadence/tone as you use here?

BONG !

So the speeches were all about uniting the country and bringing us all together after the last couple of years.

So what the hell is this desire to 'celebrate' Brexit by sounding Big Ben on January 31st? How will that make the 48% plus of the country who don't want to leave? Isn't it just brash and nasty triumphalism?

What's the precedent? When Johnson gets thrown out of office can we ask for Big Ben to sound? Better still, when Mark Francois kicks the bucket can we get all of the bells in the country to peal?

Horrible, horrible people, Brexiters...

Boro to train at Palace

Boro are at Spurs tomorrow night then Fulham Friday night. They are staying in London for the week and needed somewhere to train and Palace offered I hear.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Man City (away)

Assuming no new signings or players back from injury:

---------------------------Guaita--------------------------------
Kelly------Tomkins-------Dann--------Cahill--------Riedewald
-----------McArthur------Kouyate-----McCarthy--------------
----------------------------Ayew--------------------------------
----------------------------Tosun--------------------------------

5 man defence with 3 defensive mids protecting them. Try to hold out for as long as possible. Ayew to track back. Go long, and hope for free kicks to expose their lack of height with our centre backs, Kouyate and Tosun in the box.

Rest Zaha for the crucial home game vs Southampton.

Rumour: Ashley Young

samedi 11 janvier 2020

From the To view the link you have to Register or Login

CRYSTAL PALACE and Lazio have joined the battle for the services of Manchester United captain Ashley Young.

United are desperate for the 34-year-old to sign a new one-year deal to remain at Old Trafford amid interest from Inter Milan.

Inter boss Antonio Conte has offered the England star an 18-month deal to join his Serie A title hopefuls this month.

But now Italian rivals Lazio and Roy Hodgson’s Palace – who drew 1-1 with Arsenal this weekend – have also come forward wanting to sign the winger-turned-defender.

Lazio registered their interest this week, while Palace want Young to help strengthen their squad this season.

Hodgson has been a long-term admirer of Young since working with him while England boss.

And he believes he can offer regular first team football and the chance to stay in the Premier League to the United star.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted he wants his club captain to stay at least until the end of the season, but also for another 12 months.

But Young now has plenty of options available to him to extend his career at the top level, and regular starts is one of the key things he is looking for.

Young was left out of the United squad that demolished Norwich 4-0.

Putting your foot in it!

At work an elderly lady colleague asked me how I was doing. I replied that I was having a disastrous afternoon. Still I said as a throw away line, "it's not like a pilot having a bad day." She walked away and later returned to ask me if I had meant anything by my comment. Of course I said no. She said, "it's just that my husband died in a private plane crash."

Greek flag waved by someone in the Fanatics zone

Found it a bit odd that someone in the Fanatics zone was waving a Greek flag when Tosun came on

Did they...

1) Not know he was Turkish

2) Have a problem that he's Turkish and have some sort of allegiance to Greece?

Don't want any international incident at a future home game

Cenk Tosun

Not a bad debut - made a nuisance of himself, won some free kicks etc and linked the play when he could. Think we’ll get to see him in full flow when he gets match sharp

Unpopular opinion: our scouting is decent and there is a transfer strategy

I tend to Jude people on here on their opinion on our transfer policy. Separating the fact that the Board do not want to spend much money the successes (since the dark days of Kebe and Maranje) have far outweighed the failures.

We continue to attract good players without paying out huge fees, (usually due to us being clever and looking for players who’s contracts are running down). The savings that we are making here may allow for the longer term ground improvements and training facilities to get category A status for the Academy.

Overall I think that Dougie, Moody and their team are actually doing a decent job under the circumstances.

Rumour: Steven N'Zonzi

From To view the link you have to Register or Login:

Palace are looking at a number of deals themselves this month, so allowing McCarthy to go would help them do business.

We understand they are in the market for midfielders too and they are believed to be one of the sides looking at France international Steven N’Zonzi, whose career has stalled somewhat since a high-profile move to Roma in summer 2018.

After failing to make much of an impression in the Italian capital, the €30m signing from Sevilla was loaned out to Galatasaray for the 2019/20 campaign. But he could be allowed to move on again if Gala agree to terminate his loan spell – giving Palace hope of a potential deal.

Rumour: Omar Elabdellaoui

Not sure if this one has come up this window? Think it was around in the summer. From the Guardian live feed....

Olympiakos captain Omar Elabdellaoui has turned down the chance to join Turkish giants Galatasaray in order to focus on securing a move to the UK. The defender, who will be available for free in the summer, has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa and Crystal Palace, in addition to Scottish champions Celtic. Italian side Atalanta are also keeping a close eye on the defender, watching him in his most recent match.

Olympiakos want to keep Elabdellaoui, who came through the ranks at Manchester City and has previously enjoyed a loan spell at Hull, until the end of the season as they battle PAOK for the title and face Arsenal in the Europa League. It will be a busy few months for Norway captain Elabdellaoui who will lead the national team, including Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard, in the Euro 2020 playoffs.

Harris and Blitzer

I am seeing lots of frustration on twitter and the transfer forum about our inept scouting, useless recruitment team, lack of plan for the window etc.

Let’s be realistic, nobody is sitting in our recruitment meetings consciously choosing to sign Tosun and Ibe over the likes of Watkins, Chalov, Bowen, Bats etc. I have no doubt that all of the recruitment team are doing their level best under the conditions imposed by these utter thundertw**s, in fact the recruitment team have done a fabulous job with the magic beans they’ve been given to work with over the last 4 windows.

I am sick of seeing Roy getting loads of stick on matchdays despite performing miracles with his walking wounded. I am sick of seeing Dougie and his team getting roasted after every ‘diabolical’ window...the blame should go right here and towards these clowns. They get far too easy a ride from us, regardless of whether or not they are trying to sell up.

Do you believe in Zlatan Ibrahimovic again?

mercredi 8 janvier 2020

AC Milan is delighted to announce the signing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Club and the striker have agreed on a deal until the end of the current season with an option to extend the contract for the next one.

Ibrahimovic  made a sensational return to AC Milan after striking a six-month deal worth a reported £3 million.

Ibrahimovic will wear the famous number 21 shirt which was previously donned by his former team-mate Andrea Pirlo.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, born in Malmö (Sweden) on October 3, 1981, returns to AC Milan where he played a leading role in the Club's history.

The striker played for AC Milan in the two-season 2010/11 and 2011/12 recording 85 appearances, 56 goals and significantly contributing to the achievement of the 18th Scudetto and the Italian Super Cup.

Zlatan’s extraordinary career began with Malmö Fotbollförening. He then moved to play with AFC Ajax, Juventus FC, FC Internazionale, FC Barcelona, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain Football Club, Manchester United, and Los Angeles Galaxy, recording a total of 788 appearances and 473 goals.

Ibrahimovic will be in Milan on January 2, 2020, to take his medication and he will then join his teammates for his first training session.

AC Milan announces that Zlatan Ibrahimović's press conference is scheduled for Friday, January 3rd at Casa Milan at 10 am.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored and grabbed an assist on his AC Milan debut after returning to the club this month.

Zlatan Ibrahimović has made his second debut at AC Milan in a goalless draw with Sampdoria. The match marks the Swede’s return to AC Milan, after leaving the club in 2012.

A large part of the problem for AC Milan, who has now been blanked for a three consecutive Serie A matches, is Piatek who remains mired in an awful slump with just a single league goal in his last 10 appearances.

The draw left Milan still 12th in the league table, now level with Hellas Verona on points and 13 back of a Champions League spot.

Car Accident - Advice Appreciated!

Alright people,

Thought I’d have a crack at getting an answer on here as I’ve been googling for a while and can’t get one - but I’m sure there’ll be someone here who can tell me!

Mrs has had a car accident - her fault no question - went to drive around a stopped car and clipped his bumper. He’s had a quote for £800 so gona have to go through insurance.

I know this is gona increase her premium as it’s a fault claim but my question is - since her premium is gona go up anyway is it worth getting her car fixed up on the insurance as well? It’s nothing major, just a bit of an unsightly gash which if I’d been able to avoid insurance I would have left, but seeing as we’re gona take a hit anyway, is there any reason not to get hers repaired as well?

I guess what I’m wondering is there anything to be gained by only allowing our insurance to pay for the other party’s repairs? If not I might as well get them to repair hers as well, right?

Cheers in advance for any thoughts!

This one seems to have passed without mention (probably because there’s nothing in it) but got me thinking. Now I’m the first to criticise the strength of the Scottish Premier League let alone the Championship but this guys record the last couple of years screams of needing a step up. Obviously there’s a massive gulf between our leagues but could he be one of those natural goal scorers who just seems to know where to stand and how to finish? Probably wouldn’t cost a fortune relatively. Anybody know much more about him or seen him play?

If only we had fans like Everton.....

From the BBC

Everton director of football Marcel Brands addressed a small group of angry supporters at the club's training headquarters after the humiliating FA Cup third-round loss at Liverpool.

The group of seven fans arrived at the Finch Farm complex, in the Merseyside town of Halewood, on Tuesday.

Everton lost 1-0 against an under-strength Liverpool team on Sunday.

Brands spoke to the assembled fans for around 20 minutes in what is said to have been an amicable exchange.

It is understood Brands - who joined Everton in 2018 after working as PSV Eindhoven's sporting director - addressed the supporters' concerns over Everton's display and a perceived lack of commitment from the players against their city rivals.

Everton are also expected to speak to midfielder Fabian Delph after he appeared to get involved in a social media confrontation with a supporter following the defeat.

Liverpool's selection of a host of younger players - including match winner Curtis Jones - raised Everton's hopes that tcould end their winless sequence at Anfield, which stretches back to 1999.

The loss was a second in four matches for manager Carlo Ancelotti, who took charge following the sacking of Marco Silva on 6 December.
