French World Cup winner Adil Rami hopes to secure a move to the Premier League before the closure of the transfer window. The 34-year-old defender was pursued by Arsenal last summer following discussions with his former manager at Sevilla, Unai Emery. Instead, he joined Turkish side Fenerbahce, where he has since made only five appearances. Interest in Rami so far has mainly come from the Championship, with Derby County leading the race to sign him ahead of another unnamed club. Rami, however, hopes to play in the Premier League and Crystal Palace are considering making an offer for him. Capped 36 times by France, Rami launched his career with Lille in France before spells with Valencia, Milan, Sevilla and Marseille, from where he was sacked in August after missing training to take part in a mud wrestling competition in French gameshow, Fort Boyard. Earlier in the summer, he had split from Pamela Anderson, the former Baywatch star and his girlfriend of two years.

We're clearly short of centre-backs, and at eight days younger than Cahill, he's a veritable spring chicken. What's not to like?
