Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

Living and working in the Emirates

Anyone willing to help me understand the advantages and disadvantages of living in the Emirates.... I really would like to understand the +/- of living and working here...i think from next summer...or sooner if i get a fantastic offer....

I would be working as an English teacher, and need to understand if i can work for two years and enjoy a good lifestyle and save good money over a two-year period...I understand it depends on lifestyle of course ))

I have lots of questions, eg. cost of living, cost and type of accomodation.

Anyone willing to answer a load of questions/give advice? on this thread or via PM ?

I see schools offering free (i guess shared...) accomodation, but i will be travelling with my non wife...is that a problem for such benefits?

Football Manager 2019

Release Date

November 2nd - BETA Release for the fortnight prior

Announced Features

To view the link you have to Register or Login

VAR

FM19 includes the introduction of video technology in competitions that currently use it – either in the form of a referee using a TV screen to check a decision, and/or communicating with their VARs via an earpiece. The game will also include goal-line technology to avoid any Pedro Mendes-esque howlers from officials.

You'll be asked about controversies in your post-match interviews after instances of technology being used, so get prepared...

Training Overhaul

The biggest yet in FM history, say SI. The studio's knowledge-sharing with real-life coaches has helped them revamp the training module to make it a more realistic proposition. Training is now split into three sessions per day, which you can customise to fit you squad's needs. There are 10 different training areas to focus on, and individual sessions within them (i.e. Aerial Defence, if you're about to face some notorious long-ball merchants). Pre-season training is now given the importance it deserves.

New Manager Tutorials

Picking up FM again after a spell on the sidelines can be daunting, so on-screen pointers have now been introduced to ease in new or returning players. SI say that even those working within their own studio have been using them to improve in areas where they have knowledge gaps, to great benefit.

Revamped tactics module

Featured are the inclusion of tactical styles (i.e. gegenpress, tiki-taka), team instructions for specific phases of play, goalkeeper distribution options, new player roles and tweaks to mentality terms. Meanwhile, pre-match briefings have been simplified for ease of navigation, and your assistant can recommend topics for debate.

Graphics & Visuals

SI say they've replaced or improved 500 graphics for FM19. They also note improved stadiums with capacities of up to 5,000, making them more realistic and varied for lower-league bosses. Meanwhile, disabled fans will also be visible in all stadia.

Team talk improvements

These will contain more information than previous editions, including player positions in the squad hierarchy, and how your words of wisdom have been received by your team's leaders. Naturally, these dressing room influencers are ones to keep onside, so be careful how you treat them. You'll also be able to discover what your assistant manager says in team talks too, should you wish to give them free rein in the dressing room.

DFL Bundesliga licence

For the first time, including 36 clubs with proper badges, player faces and trophies.

Best small family car?

Any suggestions? Safety for the little one obviously most important.

I’ve looked at a Volkswagen Polo and a Mini 5-door hatch. I won’t be driving it but thought a mini might be a more fun car.

Any suggestions or thoughts?

I’ll be getting it second hand whatever it is.

Warn8ng for diesel car owners

Firstly I know little more about my car than I start it and it works and if it doesn’t I call the AA or garage.

I have a 2011 Cmax that I bought with 18k and now has 118k onit great car reliable serviced once a year etc. A couple 9f weeks ago it broke down got towed home and then taken to the garage to be fixed (garage owned by friends) two of te injectors had faults and needed to be replaced £800. At the same time my van 2013 60k miles broke down and again had the same problem but with only one injector. We have waited over a week for the part f9r te van and still don’t have it.

My friend who owns te garage has said that this is happening more and more often he even had a diesel with 25k that had the problem and the fact that the parts are delayed is evidence to this. Apparently this is due to te 30% of rapeseed oil in UK diesel and the injectors can’t deal with it.

He has given me an additive called 245 and he has said that this being out 8n every 10k will stop this from happening.

I hope this can help someone

Palace vs Cambridge April 79, who scored?

Towards the end of this season it will be forty years since my first game, Palace vs Cambridge Utd, 10th April 1979 (a few days after my eleventh birthday). With hindsight towards the end of 1978-79 season was the perfect time to start supporting Palace, I thought that all seasons would be like that.

I can remember that the score was 1-1 but I can't remember who scored, is there anyone here with a better memory than me, someone who can recall the name of the goal scorer?

Vibration Plate

A couple of years ago I was given one of these, but never really used it. A few weeks ago I noticed that most of my clothes were getting a bit on the tight side :). I've been eating healthy and getting plenty of exercise, but wondered if it was worth giving this contraption another go in conjunction with regular exercise.

Anyone used one and found it beneficial? Is it a con? Or should I just get rid as it's just sat in the garage?

Solicitor advice pls...

I wonder if anyone out there can help me.

I'm selling a property... the last 3 weeks, there has been no movement. The buyer has called/texted me, to say their solicitor is blaming my solicitor for delay. I call/email my solicitor,(and surprise surprise) they blame the other solicitor. I get a call this morning from buyer, she's upset... she's on a deadline, she's stressed and she explains that delay is costing her (and me) £££.
I again phone my solicitor. I explain the situation. My solicitor explains they have sent out draft contracts, but have yet to hear back. She advises me to call Estate Agent, to see if he can move things along.
I phone the estate agent, I explain the delay... he interrupts me...

Estate agent: hang on, are they seriously blaming each other for delay?

Me: Yes.

Estate agent: You and the buyer are using the same firm... their offices are opposite each other!

I phone back my solicitors, I ask her what firm the buyer is using... she taps away on her laptop... she goes quiet... she says... "oh, this is embarrassing, they're using us".

I'm a little pissed off... it's too late to change solicitors, but I'm not happy at the service I'm receiving.
My buyer is at her wits end.

Do I (and buyer) have grounds for complaint, or is this all part n parcel of the property selling business?

TIA

P.S. the other thing that pisses me off.... Is I only find out about delay from buyer, my solicitor seems incapable of communicating with me.

Having a natter, earlier today, and this subject came up.

Do inmates get internet access? If so, why?
Does it depend on the reason you are banged up?

Amsterdam football club

Has anyone got any experience of watching a game at this club?

Can you buy tickets on the day? I guess that's all I'm really interested in knowing but if there's any more local knowledge anyone can impart on me as a visitor looking for a game to watch while in Amsterdam please do!!

A slight improvement...

An interesting BBC article mentions Palace's slight improvement so far this season...

Points after six games in 2018-19 = 7
Points from corresponding fixtures 2017-18 = 6

iPhone Xs Max

I have just taken delivery of the new iPhone (Xs Max), and the mobile reception is crap. I was getting three bars with my iPhone x, now it's down to one and sometimes no reception at all. I've had a look at the forums and it seems that I am not alone in my disappointment.

Has anyone else here taken the plunge and if so, is your experience the same?

Freecycle: Old Programs/Palace Echo/Eagle Eye

I have a whole bunch of collected memories I'm moving on as I'm moving out and want to trim down on stuff.

I have three shoe boxes full of various Palace publication in London N4, free to anyone that wants it.

I'd sooner not chuck it in the recycling.

Any takers?

Suggested Team and Formation For: Bournemouth (away)

--------------------------Hennessey------------------------------
AWB-----------Tomkins-------------Sakho----------------PVA
Andros--------Milivojevic------------Meyer------------McArthur
----------------Benteke--------------Zaha-----------------------

Subs:

Guaita
Schlupp
Ward
Kelly/Dann
Kouyate
Ayew
Sorloth/Wickham

1. That is the best XI until/if Wickham is ever fit.
2. If it is 4-3-3 it is not a massive issue, however...
3. I would prefer we line-up 4-4-2 because I prefer Zaha to be more influential by picking the ball up in the centre of the pitch rather than out wide where he is no danger unless he scores a worldie like at Huddersfield. He can still drift wide from the centre, but he's not as effective on the wing all the time. Too predictable.
4. By playing 4-4-2 we could potentially bring on Ayew to replace McArthur wide left if we need more creativity from the midfield. He has played there before.

Other players need to step up

Obviously our strikers are rightly taking flak for not scoring but it feels like the rest of the team need to step up as well, instead of just relying on Wilf.

Last season Luka, Jimmy Mac and PVA chipped in with important goals, but it seems like everyone has forgotten the art. The glaring one for me is Townsend, who despite his industry seems to get no way near these days.

We probably miss Dann's goals a bit as well.

Suggested Team and Formation For: West Brom (Cup)

--------------------------Guaita-----------------------------------
Ward-----------Dann----------------Kelly----------------Souare
Puncheon-----Meyer--------------Riedewald------------Joniesta
---------------Sorloth--------------Wickham-----------------------

Subs:

Speroni
Schlupp
Kouyate
Kai Kai
Townsend
Benteke
Ayew

If we can get another 60 minutes under Max Mayer's belt it would be brilliant. Not sure how fit Scott Dann is but you don't have to do too much running as a centre back, he's back in training so hopefully we can give him the game to increase his fitness. Wickham is also back in training so he starts. Local favourite Joniesta deserves another 90 minutes. If Benteke is fit enough to play 30 mins it would be great to get him back in - seeing what else we have got we miss him.

Free kicks and fouls on wilf

Until we can score and offer a consistent threat from free kicks, teams will continue to foul wilf. Fouls on wilf and our lack of scoring from set pieces go hand in hand. Until we figure it out he's going to get lumps kicked out of him.

Where to watch the Newcastle game in Marbella, Puerto Banús, San Pedro?

I'm currently on holiday in San Pedro near Marbella and was wondering if anyone could be kind enough to recommend somewhere to watch the game tomorrow? All tips are much appreciated :p

Best London Mayor ?

Ken Livingstone by a country mile for me .

GIVE PEAS A CHANCE

Anyone who travels on the M25 will know the classic graffiti. Seems it has now been removed. When I was working it was a landmark that meant I was nearly home. One piece of vandalism that became iconic should of have been Grade 2 listed along with Banksy work.

Police Dog Concerns

On reading the reports of the death of 73 year old Irene Collins, whose demise was attributed to being attacked three times by a police dog, it turns out that this particular dog had bitten 10 other people.

One incident mentioned was it had bit the face of a Crystal Palace fan at Reading Station in 2010.

I’m pretty sure the poor sod bitten that day was a member on here and it left me wondering if this dogs, clearly unacceptable behaviour, was brought up in the subsequent court case?

Cashless society.

mercredi 19 septembre 2018

Just wondering how people are going with the pending Cashless world. I've probably been almost 100pct cashless now for almost 2 years. Reason it came to mind is I've just come back from Holiday in Bali and it was a right bleeding nightmare having to use cash again.

I'd say most Australian cities are now go with at least 75 to 85 pct cashless transactions. Most of those paywave as well.

I personally see the whole progression as great for the individual, inasmuch as it's almost impossible to lose money because of the zero liability guarantee that banks give one on any unauthorised transactions particularly on Mastercard and Visa..... In Australia at least, I assume the rest of the world is covered. The other major benefit, is an online record of exactly where you have spent your money.

So like it or hate it?

Israel/Palestine, 2018

Rather than derail the Gaza massacre thread, here is a general thread that is apparently wanted.

Chris Packham - Shocking

Regular readers of this site will know I have absolutely no time for Packam, I think the bloke is generally an utter cock who uses his position as a
Presenter on BBC programmes in a manner that would be banned if he was directly employed by them. He freely spouts crap and the BBC when challenged, just say they don’t employ him directly, so he’s free to make demonstrably wrong or political claims on programmes that they broadcast.

But today I saw him suggesting that primary schools should be ‘twinned’ with local farms and that kids should “own” urban trees.

The blokes still an utter ****, but I’m shocked to say I think he’s come up with a brilliant idea.

Off for a lie down in a darkened room.

IE Help

Afternoon all.

I am having issues with IE 11, basically, I can only access 2-3 sites maximum (The BBS being one of them)

I have tried delting and re-installing, this doesn't work, aI have also tried installing an older version, again, to no avail!

I get the generic message which reads;

This page can’t be displayed

•Make sure the web address To view the link you have to Register or Login is correct.
•Look for the page with your search engine.
•Refresh the page in a few minutes.

I have tried to diagnose the issue but it shows that there are no faults? I am at a loose end currently so any help is much appreciated.

Palace Stats 18/19 (Whoscored.com)

In the pursuit of coming top of my Prem fantasy league at work I spend a fair amount of time checking out player stats on whoscored.com etc.

I know stats don't tell the full pictures but over a season its does paint a fairly good picture and are used more & more in sports/betting.

Thought I'd post a few I found interesting so far this season:

*Palace are 6th Statistically in the league with a rating of 6.81 (Man City 1st on 7.09 & Huddersfield 20th with 6.40)

*Palace have the 15th lowest Possession with 45.8% (Chelsea 1st on 65.8% & Newcastle 20th with 6.53)

*Aaron Wan-Bissaka has the highest rating in the team with 7.51 with Joel Ward the lowest on 6.36 (Based on players playing over 90mins)

*Mamadou Sakho has a the highest pass success percentage with 91.4% with Christian Benteke bottom with 51.5% (Wayne Hennessey on 50.4)

*James McArthur tops the team for "Key passes per game" with 1.4

*James Tomkins comes out on top in regards to "Clearances per game" with 8

*Wilf Zaha tops the table for "Dispossessed per game" with 6 & "Bad Control per game" at 4.3

Vintage shirt question

Any vintage palace shirt collectors out there?

I've just managed to get a couple of adidas 1980-83 sash shirts. One is definitely legit (there is a very faded adidas label attached). The other one has no label, is a slightly different colour and has a much bigger embroidered adidas logo on the front and the badge looks a bit dodgy. Did someone bother to make some (fairly decent by the look of it) fakes of that shirt?

Also having been looking at the old kits, what chance do I ever have of getting any of the Hummel kits from the 1980s.

QPR v under 23's

Any news on this? - k.o. 1pm. Typically if you click Live Match Centre on the Palace website it says 'Lineup will be displayed here shortly before the game' - still nothing.

Palace Kit Mobile Wallpapers

Been searching the net for these. All 3 of the current kits would look great on the phone.

Does anyone have them or knows where I can get them?

Spider-Man (PS4)

Anyone been playing this?

It's pretty amazing. Just swinging about New York is stunning. The storyline and visuals are pretty much perfect too. I think i'm about a third of the way through the story and it's got me on the edge of my seat. I want to play it all the time, but at the same time I don't because I don't want the game to end!

Steve Ditko spider-man artist died last week

dimanche 16 septembre 2018

He created the look and told the original tales of Spider-man way back in the 60s and he created Dr Strange too.

Died last week in his 90s - bit of a loner was not found for a couple of days after he died.

I came across the old Spidey stories in the British comic "Pow!" (later "Pow & Wham") when I was at primary school and was hooked - taking on CrimeMaster & The Green Goblin, The Scorpion, Doc Ock, Molten Man, Vulture, Mystery, Kraven the Hunter - it was all set in a strange 40s type New York and Spidey quipped his way through all his fights. And in the same comics you'd get British comic strips like The Two Faces of Janus

Player Ratings And Reviews: Huddersfield Town v Crystal Palace

Poll to follow

Loan Watch 2018/2019

(I tend to merely state facts as I do not pretend to know as much about these players as other BBS devotees do)
As far as I know the following Palace players are out on loan.

Jaroslaw Jach - Çaykur Rizespor (Turkey Super Lig - their top League)
So far CayRiz have played 4, drawn 2 and are 16th of 18.
Jach was an Unused sub in games 1 & 2. Game 3 - Subbed on, on 36th min.
4th game - an unused sub

Jason Lokilo - Lorient (France) Ligue 2
Lorient are 2nd in a league of 20 after 7 games.
Lokilo did not feature until the 6th game when he was an unplayed sub

Ryan Iniss - Dundee - Scottish Premiership
Dundee are bottom of the league.
Did not feature games 1&2. Game 3 - Inniss subbed on at half time. Unfortunately Motherwell scored 3 in the 2nd half. Game 4 did not feature.

Levi Lumeka - Leyton Orient - National League.
Currently, after 11 games, Orient are 3rd. Game 8 - an unused sub. Game 9 Lumeka was subbed on, on the 92 min.

James Daly & Tyler Brown - Kingstonian Bostick League. This is a part time league and both players come back to Palace to train.
Kings are 17th of 22. I am struggling to find a decent, up-to-date, source for Kingstonian teamsheets, match reports

Beat Huddersfield at their own game

On train home. Their fans are whinging that we’re dirtiest team ever, kicked them off the park, cheated our way to a win.

Good.

About time we beat those cloggers at their own game. Well done Roy and Ray.

New way of looking at things: Benteke the new Cameron Jerome

Wilf is our goal scorer.

Benteke does the CamJam role - few goals but makes life difficult for defenders.

My Curly Wurly's chocolate covering?

It used to be a thicker covering...just another example of Cadbury's crimes! :veryangry

The referee for Huddersfield is...

Graham Scott.

Yeah...

Apparently he's reffed Huddersfield 11 times and they've only won once.

He's never reffed us in the Premier League. In fact the last time he took charge of one of our games we drew 1-1 with (ironically) Huddersfield in the Championship.

Let's hope he refs the game as strongly/fairly as Mike Dean did last season.

Watching Palace in Brighton

jeudi 13 septembre 2018

Tricky one this.

I'll be in Brighton this weekend. Anywhere that might show the Huddersfield match, where I can freely cheer Zaha goals secure in the knowledge that my head won't end up on a spike?

There must be loads of Palace fans in Brighton. So come on, where's your safe space?

Bolton going into administration

lundi 10 septembre 2018

Quote:

I have of course seen this evening's Bolton News article and I am very disappointed that Stuart Wilson and Michael Henson of Blu Marble Capital Ltd have decided to reject my offer to repay the loan they originally made to the club through Sportshield Ltd and place the club in administration.

The amount received by the club was £4m and l offered to repay this plus substantial interest. Unfortunately, this offer was rejected.

As they come to understand and appreciate the consequences and repercussions of this action, l feel sure that they will live to regret their actions for what can only have been personal reasons as their actions do not make commercial sense.

As l understand it they are currently taking legal action against their own lawyers in respect of a negligence claim on the original transaction with Sportshield Ltd and are expecting to receive substantial compensation from the lawyers' PI insurance and this may explain their actions.

They will now need to fund the club administration going forward, which will take a minimum of three months and will automatically put the club in a two-year transfer embargo and a minimum immediate points deduction of 12 points.

In my opinion, their actions will substantially reduce the value of the club in respect of any future sale and will make it far more difficult to find a future investor/buyer.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the three debenture holders who all agreed to make concessions in order to try and reach a settlement with Blu Marble, but unfortunately these were not accepted and they will all now play a major part in the administration discussions going forward.

I will continue to do everything possible to help the club and have let the administrators know that l will do my best to assist them.

Kind regards

Ken

Hearing Aids

As the BBS gets older, I’m sure I’m not alone in having to wear hearing aids. I’ve had mine for a week now and so far, I’m not impressed with the experience.

Everything sounds tinny, and the frequency of electric motors in air conditioning and fans is really annoying as it sounds crackly and high pitched. As for typing on a keyboard and clicking a mouse, the sound is very high pitched and VERY annoying.

Yesterday in a restaurant the background hubbub noise was horrible, and made listening to direct conversation with table companions no less easy than not wearing the aids. I have to say the same about watching TV, I’m not hearing any improvement on clarity, especially in movies and dramas.

I’m going back to the audiologist tomorrow for a follow-up, hopefully they can do some fine tuning. For what these things cost I should be able to hear like the Bionic Man!

Please someone tell me this is normal, and my brain just needs to get used to the new sounds.

Republic of Ireland Squad

dimanche 9 septembre 2018

Do Ireland still take any player with at least one grand-parent born in Ireland? If so why is their current squad so weak, compared to in days gone by?
I thought millions of the UK population qualified, but the squad features more league one players than premier league players in midfield / attack.
Quite a strong defence mind you.

Goalkeepers: Colin Doyle (Hearts), Sean McDermott (Kristiansund BK), Darren Randolph (Middlesbrough)

Defenders: Seamus Coleman (Everton), Cyrus Christie (Fulham), Matt Doherty (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Shane Duffy (Brighton & Hove Albion), Richard Keogh (Derby County), Ciaran Clark (Newcastle United), Kevin Long (Burnley), John Egan, Enda Stevens (Sheffield United)

Midfielders: Alan Judge (Brentford), Jeff Hendrick (Burnley), Conor Hourihane (Aston Villa), Shaun Williams (Millwall), David Meyler (Reading), Daryl Horgan (Hibernian), Callum O'Dowda (Bristol City)

Forwards: Graham Burke, Callum Robinson (Preston North End), Aiden O'Brien (Millwall), Ronan Cutis (Portsmouth)

SNP has no chance with these boys.

Absolutely no idea that Glasgow had this going on still and wth such numbers.
I would expect it in Northern Ireland but why is this so big in Glasgow?
Glasgow Rangers, Celtic ... Yes I know but is sectarianism Scottish or Northern Irish?

Saturday & Sunday League 2018/19

It's been a while since I saw one of these on here, is anyone on the good ship BBS still playing football on Saturday's or Sunday's?

After a two and a half year hiatus and spending a large chunk of it playing 5 a side at Goals and not really enjoying myself (despite managing and guiding the team to back to back league titles!), I decided I needed and wanted to get back out there for 11 a side to prove to myself if nothing else that I still had it.

Anyway first league game today in the Leatherhead & District League Division 5 and a very sobering 5-2 defeat brought us down to Earth with a resounding bump. 4 criminal defensive errors done for us, thankfully I can say none of the 5 goals were my fault but I think I am in for some really frustrating games this season unless we can sort our defence our pronto.

Destiny

Anyone play destiny here? If so, I’d like to create a Palace clan and talk about destiny stuff.

Chuka and the Moderates

Looks like there will be a significant number of Labour MP's who are not on the Jezza wagon who will face deselection.

Interesting to see if they quit Labour to see out their term as Independents, form a new party , or force by elections by resigning

I think Westminster is with few exceptions full of self interest on all sides so very much settling down to watch the fight in the playground here.

In my view since the rise of Multi Million Pound Tony we have the worst bunch of politicians ever .

I’m seeking responses to questions relating to supporter views of the corporate governance problems that have befallen the FA in recent times. There are a maximum of 14 questions and should take less than 5 minutes to complete.

The results that are to be collected and reproduced in my Dissertation using statistical data analysis will remain completely anonymous.

Love Pete and Alice like they are a member of my family and by no means suggesting we get rid of them, they are Palace .

New iPad Pro 2018 - sell out?

I have been saving for the new iPad Pro that looks likely for release at the next Apple event next week (with 3 new iPhones!)

I know new iPhones sell out in minutes but do the iPads also sell out or can I wait a couple of days when they are released and just walk into an Apple store (as I have a blue water voucher!) and kick one up when the iPhone queues have gone!

Was hoping someone might work in an Apple store who would have a good idea? Thanks! :p

Holmesdale Lower Tier ST holders please read

I am a Season Ticket (ST) holder Holmesdale Upper tier, supporter for 50 years and have read all the various posts and statements relating to the ‘singing section’. Whilst my sympathy lies predominantly with those in the Holmesdale Lower Tier (HLT) and the club I understand the benefits of having a ‘singing section’. I do however feel the Holmesdale Fanatics (HF) proposal is flawed and put forward the following proposal which addresses the concerns of those in the HLT. This could be put to the club if the feedback is favourable:-

1. ASAP CPFC announce that from season 2019/2020 the HLT will be a designated singing section.

2. CPFC announce that by 31.01.2019 all ST holders (except those in HLT) must either
a) Renew and pay for their ST

OR

b) Release their ST and register for the ‘Singing Section’ HLT.

Many fans wait to see if we avoid relegation before renewing which together with those who have vacated their seats to join the ‘singing section’ will ensure there is a large amount of good seats available throughout the ground.

3. Feb / March 2019 ST holders in the HLT are provided with the opportunity to either:

a) Register for the ‘singing section’

OR

b) Offered the opportunity to pick and move to the seats now available elsewhere in the ground.

c) If they decide to relocate away from the HLT they are offered a 20% discount on their ST to compensate them for moving (this is paid from interest received by the club as a result of the early ST sales, therefore no financial loss to the club).

d) If they are unable to find a seats suitable they are offered the opportunity to stay in their current seats or a seat of their choice in HLT on the understanding that the HLT is now a ‘singing section’ and it is likely to be more raucous and people may stand for long periods.

4. April / May 2019 seats in HLT are allocated along the lines of the HF proposal namely long term ST holders / loyalty points or those that show a preference for sitting in a particular block (not everyone will want to be centrally based). It is important at this stage that those who want to sit together have made the club aware.

5. June-August remaining seats throughout the ground released, initially to ST holders who did not renew in January and then to new ST holders.

This would provide a satisfactory outcome for all those affected.

If agreed between CPFC and the HF, the HF could return to their original seats this season pending implementation. The 35 fans who have purchased ST would be asked to move to seats of their choice of available seats this season and provided with compensation (£100?).

For next season offered

1. Opportunity to renew their current ST at 20% discount in January
2. Register and obtain a seat in the HLT (no discount).

Match Updates: Slovakia v Denmark

Just kicked off.

A lot of interest across the country here in this because of the disputes between the Danish FA and the players leading to futsal players being selected. Could get interesting!

Darren Ambrose

Was good to see him on the pitch last weekend, brought back a lot of great memories. I googled him to see what he'd been up to since leaving us, was quite surprised to see how much of a rapid descent his career took, despite him having a pretty damn impressive strike rate of about 1 in 4 (as a midfielder) for us.

He only played a handful of games here and there after leaving us before retiring a couple of years ago. I wonder what happened with him.

Was also surprised to read he is only 34, he seems to have been around forever!

Shaqiri in Belgrade?

So, Liverpool will play Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.

The match in Belgrade should be ,to say the least 'interesting' given Shaqiri likely presence (if only on the bench) for Liverpool. Shaqiri was born in Kosovo. Kosovans are ethnic Albanians. They and Serbians in significant numbers in my experience hate each other. I've repeatedly seen normally liberal sensible Serbs go completely off on one when the topic of Kosovo comes up.

As well as Shaqir's Albanian eagle display (and his boots logo) when Switzerland played Serbia at the World Cup, let's remember the amazing scenes a few years ago when a Serbia v Albania game in Belgrade was abandoned after someone flew in a drone with the Albanian national symbol on it to hover above the pitch!

Then there's Red Stars 'ultras' who have been known to focus on the 'ultra violent' part of the3 word ultra not infrequently.

As the Guardian reports:

'Red Star Belgrade have said they will protect Xherdan Shaqiri from “unwanted situations” when the Liverpool winger arrives for their Champions League group match in November.

The club’s general director, Zvezdan Terzic, believes the Switzerland international, born in the former Yugoslavia to Kosovan-Albanian parents, will be under “unbelievable psychological pressure” because of his background.

Alisson will be Liverpool’s first choice in Champions League, says Klopp

Shaqiri courted controversy during the World Cup when he celebrated a last-minute winner against Serbia with an “Albanian eagle” gesture.

He and his Swiss teammates Granit Xhaka and Stephan Lichtsteiner were all fined for unsporting behaviour for making the gesture, which symbolises the Albanian flag.

“Personally I can’t imagine that an Albanian will play for Red Star,” Terzic told

Belgrade newspaper Kurir. “Red Star is a Serbian club, Partizan [Belgrade] was Yugoslav.

“I think that Shaqiri will be under unbelievable psychological pressure because he will know where he is coming; he knows that the Red Star is a symbol of Serbia and playing the Marakana, I don’t know whether he will play.

“Of course, as a football club we treat our rivals equally and we do not have to deal with the past and the history.

“Red Star must do everything to make Shaqiri feel that he came to play football and it is our duty to protect him in the case of unwanted situations. Let’s be good hosts.”

VAR to be trailed in Prem

Couldn't see a thread on this, also figured as it directly affected us it was better to put in GPD than WOF.

Anyway, according to Sky Sports the league will be trailing VAR in about 15 games this season, starting with the 5 3pm kick offs next Saturday.

This should include our game against Huddersfield... Which could be a bit of a relief knowing how they play, especially if Wilf is fit :)

Sod's law of course they still manage to mess up on a clear pen/red card in our favour and manage to use it to award something against us in the 90th minute for a 1-0 defeat :D

Liberal Democrats

As far as I know they haven’t had a thread.

Just dropped to 6%. Less than UKIP.

Given all the problems in the tories and Labour how is this possible.

Put seats in the corner between the Holmesdale and Arthur and be done with it.

Singers in Block B.
Singers at the back of the Arthur.

Fill the corner and there’s your singing section.

It doesn’t need to be behind the goal. Visibility is wherever the cameras are pointing and guess what, cameras move. All the good images of the HF came from pitch side cameras, not the gantry. When the Main Stand is built the cameras will be moved to that side of the pitch so they’ll be facing this corner anyway!

The stadium is a round entity. It doesn’t make a blind bit of difference what part of the circle the sound comes from. You’ll have a better chance of engaging the Holmesdale and the Arthur by starting in the corner.

Stop the seat grab. Stop trying to displace fans and their decade-old match-day social groups. Stop holding the club to ransom.

Sakho interview on CPFC YouTube

Brilliant watch. Talks briefly about tough childhood and losing father. Seems really humble and nice guy.

An example of what is wrong with The US Health System

I have the pleasure of having to start wearing hearing aids. About a month back I had the tests and was advised of the need to wear them. I was quoted $7,000 for the pair which included the testing and the fitting etc.. I was told, “Oh don’t worry this won’t cost you anything, your insurance will cover it all”.

Fast forward a month and I get the statement from the insurance company. The audiology place had billed the insurance for $13,000+ for the pair of aids! The insurance company states this is above and beyond established cost and will only pay $7,000. Funny how that worked out.

Although not directly affected by this, I fear ultimately, I the consumer does pay for this skullduggery. This is all legitimate and above-board practice, but just doesn’t sit well with me.

Looking at the hearing aids themselves (as a retired engineer) I would say parts and labour would put them at about 5 to 10 dollars each max. But that’s another whole thread for another day!

Amazing interview. Had no idea of how difficult a life he has had. Great bloke happy he has succeeded.

Sightlines: is a central singing section even practical

This is a serious question, and completely separate from the issue of the current dispute and the impact of any moves on existing season ticket holders - which is why I've started a new thread. And it is genuine question - no agenda on my part.

Has anyone actually checked the sightlines in the Lower Holmesdale. Say we ended up with a large singing - and therefore standing - section covering blocks D, E and F. Would people who wanted to sit and therefore had to occupy the outer blocks have clear sight lines to the opposite side of the pitch when play was near the Holmesdale end?

If the answer is yes - then fine. If no, then that's a pretty major flaw in the whole plan. Given what happened with the TV-required infrastructure changes when we were promoted and the completely unintended and unforeseen consequences they had for some fans, including the disabled area, it seems a reasonable question to me.

Question for a scaffolder

I'm having some painting done to the masonry at the front of my flat and the builders will need to put up a scaffold. Can someone give me an idea about how much that should normally cost?

Thanks

IT Help

Have just scanned an old hard copy CV onto the computer but can't work out how to edit it before re-printing because I am a doofus.

Any assistance much appreciated.

I have tried the edit function on the scanned doc but doesn't seem to do anything.

Safe standing - a couple of questions

A couple of quick questions about self-standing.

- What needs to happen for it to be allowed? It it just a case of someone giving approval, or does there need to be a change to the law (and if the latter, is it just regulations, or primary legislation). I want to understand how quickly it could be brought in.

- Does it allow for more supporters in the same area, or does the fact it's rail seating mean the density of fans (no jokes, please!) remains the same.

Cheers.

Points after 10 ?

What do we think?

Still have the games to get ok start I'm hoping 13 from 10 now so we have abit of breathing space or will we be below par??

Jonathan Moss

dimanche 2 septembre 2018

I know that Man Utd usually seem to get favourable refereeing decisions but how did Moss not give red cards to Bardsley for a deliberate kick on Rashford and to Mee for a deliberate handball, when he was the last man?

Smallest and tallest Palace players?

After watching Max Meyer yesterday... oh my, he is diddy.. thoughts overtook me about who was our littlest ever player...

For me it's Phil Holder height wise but feck me, iirc, his physique was like Arnie compared to Max.

Tallest for me is Ian Evans but that maybe an optical illusion cos he was so skinny. Do you agree?

Club never asked all Block E ticket holders

They took the letters and responses to the "leaked" news they were considering moving the HF - and with these responses they thought they had the full picture.

There are so many people who sit in that block who would consider moving, but they didn't but in place a process to consult them. They just reacted to the responses to the leak.

Amateur. Failure to manage this professional is costing us all and I don't blame the HF for going back to just being like the rest of us. The club use the HF in their marketing, messaging and branding.

So - if you are in block E and would consider moving, let's hear from you now. Maybe 100 seats could be found to sort this mess out.

Funniest thing you ever seen...

...involving Palace at a match.

Just to lighten the mood a bit.

This is mine...

The home game before we had Liverpool in the semi, can't recall who it was but it'll be easy enough to google it, The Croydon Advertiser was a sponsor who had a bloke who dressed up as a blue bear (The Croydon Advertiser Blue Bear) who used to have a kickabout with the mascot pre match.

The game I mentioned had the blue bear kicking around with the mascot who couldn't have been anymore than 5 or 6.
The bear decided to poleaxe this little boy just as he was about to score a goal.
We stood in The Holmesdale at the time and my brother went ******* mental on seeing this. We had to hold him back and everything So much so that he swore he'd get the blue bear one day.

Well that day came at Villa Park v Liverpool.
The blue bear made an appearance in The Holte End pre match, dancing up and down the aisles. My brother got hold of him, reminded him of what he'd done at Selhurst and then kicked him down the steps.

We all laughed and laughed. And it probably wasn't even the same bloke but we didn't care.

You?

Scottish football

Old Firm derby today. Celtic red hot favourites. Hopefully a good game, unlike recent encounters.

Oh what a beautiful morning!

It's the kind of morning that makes you want to …

Sorloth criticism OTT

I rate him and think we are in danger of losing a good player because he hasn't been given a fair crack of the whip .
Looks dangerous around the goal mouth just like Glenn Murray does .
Once he adjusts to the Premier league and gains confidence he will be a pivotal player at this level .

Should Roy start Benteke vs Huddersfield

samedi 1 septembre 2018

Seems more of a relevant poll than whether he will or not.

Sainsburys Car Park

Anyone understand what was going on today? I arrived at 1.11pm and was told the car park was full. I asked a guy in a suit when it was full he said just after 12.30pm. I then explained to him the 4.5 hour rule which meant that they all had to be out by 5pm or get a ticket? "Nothing to do with us" he said "that is a matter for Sainsburys."

So the implication was that you need to be in at 12.30pm but risk getting a parking ticket.

Will roy start benteke vs huddersfield

PALACE things that annoy you?

Back of block B not bothering to sing even when they're in the spotlight!

Surely Now Is the Time to Get Rid of 4-4-2 and Revert to 4-3-3

Seeing as some twat started a Hodgson out thread, I thought I would actually start of thread that is worthy of discussion. In a league where most teams play some version of 4-3-3/4-2-3-1, our compact 4-4-2 formation made us a different proposition to play against and saw us grind out results last season. But teams seem to have figured it out, Wilf doesn't get on the ball enough and more worryingly we don't have enough possession. We only had 40% possession against Fulham which is poor against a promoted team and only 35% possession first half against Southampton today. Surely now Roy has to change our system to 4-3-3 and try to get some more control in midfield and also give Wilf more space to get on the ball.

Lost the plot big time

-----------------Ayew----------------------Benteke----------------------

Subs:

Guaita
Ward

What have you done? More importantly, what are you going to do to correct it?

Player Ratings And Reviews: Southampton (home)

Poll to follow

Unsavoury atmosphere today

Never normally post directly after a game but I feel I need to get this off my chest. The 12th man has gone, soton used this to their advantage. Players didn’t fancy it. Continuos discontent in A/B block. Cards handed out before the game encouraging fans to grass on their own wasn’t a great idea imo.

Match Updates: Weekend 01/09

Liverpool in the early action and Salah has missed a sitter. Mundane fixtures today (apart form us of course). Any other highlights lower down (after the dullsville of Leeds V Boro last night)?
