I came across the old Spidey stories in the British comic "Pow!" (later "Pow & Wham") when I was at primary school and was hooked - taking on CrimeMaster & The Green Goblin, The Scorpion, Doc Ock, Molten Man, Vulture, Mystery, Kraven the Hunter - it was all set in a strange 40s type New York and Spidey quipped his way through all his fights. And in the same comics you'd get British comic strips like The Two Faces of Janus
