Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

We are back to a normal Saturday kickoff as Palace hosts the saints from the South coast.

Where will you be watching at across the states? Ask us where to watch near you!

Ketogenic diet

Has anyone else tried a ketogenic diet? I am nearly four weeks in and really feel & see the difference.

I have also started a high intensity exercise programme. My moobs are disappearing, my dumps are more satisfying and I can now see definition in my arms from weights.

I do miss bread, don’t miss sugar or chips.

Builders/tradesmen in Worthing Area

Anyone have any recommendations or know anyone that does interior building work in Worthing area? Need a house refurbishing, windows, doors, electrics, new flooring, decorating new boiler etc.

Ideally would be good to get one firm to do the whole lot, and would welcome any recommendations any BBS members have.

UEFA to make new European competition

No major details as yet but just read on Football Italia that UEFA want to reduce the size of the Europa League from 48 teams to 32 and then create a new European Competition of 32 teams. This is being planned for 2021.

Thoughts?

What should the odds be on this?

What should the odds be on this football handicap bet?

I've been going through this in mind and am struggling to get it straight. Perhaps someone can help?

Imagine a football match between Chelsea and Wolves. I have worked out that Chelsea will win by about 2 goals. I think this is the average margin I can expect. If they repeat this fixture many times, sometimes Chelsea will win by more than 2 and sometimes by fewer than 2 (or lose or draw), but on average the margin will be 2.

I look for 2-way Asian Handicap odds, and see there is a market for Chelsea -1.5. What would be the fair odds I should expect, to represent an average win by 2 goals?

It's not a trick question, it's something I have been puzzling over in an effort to improve my handicap betting. Any help welcome :)

Southgate - Put your hands up and shut up

I see Gareth is bemoaning the number of young English players coming through the PL and the fact that they are not getting any playing time.

He is the man responsible, he was the architect of the EPPP and THAT is what is causing him his problems now.

That system favours the big clubs, pushes all the best players into a small number of clubs and ones that cannot give youth a chance as much because they are constantly fighting for titles.

If you want young players coming through then yes give them good coaching, yes give them good facilities, but have them at clubs where opportunities to play will be plenty.

It is a joke that he is bemoaning a situation of his own making.

Scary Films.

I thought I was pretty much desensitised to them.
The Babadook came close to freaking me out in recent years but I saw Insidious the other night and it had me swearing. More than usual.
I don't think I'll be able to listen to 'tiptoe through the tulips' whilst smiling again.

Return flights cheaper??

Hi All,

I'm after some advice. Looking at the BA website as their sale started today.

We want a single flight to Cape Town, currently listed as £1700 each! However, a return to Cape Town is £650 each.

Is there a catch? What's to stop us not using our return portion?

The Crystal Palace Story by Roy Peskett

I have recently come into possession of a copy of the Crystal Palace story by Roy Peskett. I have an original copy from 1969 therefore this copy is surplus to my collection. If anybody would like the book please PM me.

It is in reasonable condition, but no dust cover. However it makes a good edition to any Palace fans collection.

Published in late 1969 it is a complete history of the club up to the summer of that year. Forward by Arthur Wait and some great photo's as well as detailed facts and figures.

I am sure this was the first ever detailed book of the clubs history and as we are in the year/season that celebrates the 50th anniversary of our first promotion to the top division a nice keepsake of that achievement.

just looking for a good home for this piece of Palace history.

No major surprises in there but seems pretty typical that Luke Shaw gets a call up but no spot for AWB.

Now I know that we are well stocked at RB and AWB has barely any games under his belt but I feel his talents are worthy of recognition. I personally would have him in over Kyle Walker for these friendlies but am prepared to accept I probably have my red'n'blue specs on.

I can't help but feel that is AWB played for one of the usual media darlings he'd have been in Russia let alone this latest squad.

Santos v Independiente crowd trouble last night

I was watching this Copa Libertadores game, played in Sao Paolo in Brazil, last night.

With about 10 minutes to go, it all started going off with Santos fans chucking flares onto the pitch, trying to get through the barriers onto the pitch, and the police responding with batons. Eventually the players and coaching staff got involved too.

Some reports refer to the 3-0 penalty against Santos for fielding an ineligible player in the 1st leg. But I'm not sure how much a factor this was in the trouble, I didn't see any until around the 80th minute. It's not the first time I've seen things like this in South American games, Brazilian games in particular.

Here it is:

NFL Fantasy League 2018

Right then, I’m taking over from Ben who will be missed this year and hopefully we will see his return next year.

It will be mainly the usual rules, except this year, it’s for moolah!

12 teams.

£10 per person. £80 to the winner, £40 to the runner-up. I’m happy to keep the funds in a separate account until the end of the season or let people directly pay the winner/runners-up at the end of the season. I won’t be doing a runner with your money simply because quite a few people on this site know who I am, let alone the club having my address, and Bitcoin isn’t as valuable anymore!

It will be using Yahoo FF as always.

Provisional spots from the old thread:
1. pauldrulez (confirmed)
2. LLCOOLSTEVE
3. AddiscombeEagle
4. BBK
5. Funk Butter
6. CPFC Born&Bred
7. mcg77uk
8.
9.
10.

12.

I was considering making this a keeper style league but with only one keeper each season but I think that might be too much too soon!

Awb excellent again

Leeds Utd

Prepare yourselves for the media darling onslaught this season if Leeds finally stop being the mid-table shite they have been for a generation.

I'm hoping they fail, because they are as bad as scousers, and it's a long way to go but they were knocking at the door last season and look to have progressed.

Crystal Ball Swansea Caribo Cup

lundi 27 août 2018

Looks like this hasn't been got underway but if there is already one, please merge.

As experienced players will know, you pick what the result will be before penalties. Then, if you have picked a winner, you say if it will be won in normal or extra time for a bonus point. In the event of a draw after 120 minutes, you get the bonus point for picking who wins the penalties.

You have about 12 hours so get stuck in.

The Diego Garcia question . No not a new Palace transfer target

Mauritius want it back and the UN are backing them in their legal battle ..
I can't see it happening as the US virtually own the highly secretive military island base and have put who knows what military weapons on the island as well as removing 2000 locals .
Some even think flight MH370 ended out on the Island .

Greetings BBSers. As you know i don't post here much these days but thought it might interest some of you old timers to know that my son, Connor, is 16 today. Not sure where all the years went, but there you are. Time flies when Palace are, er, enjoying themselves, sort of!

Appreciate we have a Cup game first, but thought we could still get this going to hear people's thoughts after the Watford game:

--------------------------Hennessey-------------------------
AWB------------Kelly------------------Sakho-----------PVA
Andros---------Luka-------------------Meyer----------Ayew
-----------------Zaha------------------Benteke--------------

Traveling to Bournemouth from Bristol

Probably a long shot... but are their any fellow Bristol based Palace fans planning to drive to Bournemouth and back for the game on 1st October, and have a spare seat in the car?

Would love to go to this one, but train's not an option and I can't drive. More then happy to contribute towards petrol money.

Cheers

wait till first 10 games

Hopefully, win v saints and we would have had a good start before 2-week break.

Then we have a run of games with a chance to achieve a good points tally after 10 games to give us a platform to not be looking over shoulders and look upwards hopefully.

The Capoue Tackle

Just back from Watford and surprised to see there is no thread on this. We didn't play well today, and got what we deserved. However, I'm seething about one incident above all else.

Having watched it back, the tackle on Zaha by Capoue is scandalous. Studs up, a fully three or four yards from the ball, no attempt to play it whatsoever, against wilf's achilles in a clear attempt to hurt him. And, right in front of the referee, yet just a yellow card.

That could be a season or even a career ending tackle. If that happens to Hazard or De Bruyne or Salah we dont hear the end of it. I hope the club kick up an absolute stink about this, because it was ******* vile.

When that **** comes to Selhurst in January he needs absolutely ******* dogs abuse. Absolute shithouse ****.

Without Loftus cheek and Cabaye we are limited .

Major feck up IMO .

Jason Lokilo is potentially going on loan to Lorient, and according to L'equipe there is an option to buy.

The loan part is definitely true, I've heard that too. But not heard about an option to buy.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Watford away

A game in which we did enough to earn at least a point but we come home with nothing. No one would have been disappointed with a draw. The winner was a flukey cross caught in the wind and caught everyone out as it sailed into the top corner. The keeper inevitably carries the can but it wasn’t one of the dumber mistakes we have seen. Watching it again he was where he should have been for the cross I thought but as it carried with the wind he needed to take one more step back before jumping. Earlier he kept us in it stepping out and spreading himself wide to block. Shame.

Defensively, for the most part we coped despite losing half the back line and worst still Tonka getting injured only just before KO. Ward had a tough game at RB up against Pereyra and Andros covering was not always as helpful as recent weeksmalbeit not for lack of trying. Kelly TBF did well but they often looked at sea at set pieces. Most worried that for long spells we looked as if were just ticking over rather than forcing things. It’s here that we miss Cabaye because he would read the game and change the pace when needed. Luka isn’t himself yet and Macca is a different type of player and it’s not quite working there for me. At the EOD we made enough chances to win comfortably but we didn’t take them. This feels likely to be a problem we will struggle with all year but I hope I am wrong.

Surprised that we haven’t yet seen Ayew or more of Kouyate yet. Meyer looks sharp and gets his first assist but needs to be on longer than 10 or so mins. Lot to do still I think. Hoping Tomkins is just a precaution.

Hennessey - 6 - played well up until their second. Has to carry the can for it but it doesn’t need blowing out of proportion. Distribution was flakey at times but a couple of encouraging moments.

Ward - 5 - struggled to contain Pereyra but kept at it. Made a couple of good clearances. It shouldn’t have come down to him but missing that late header for an equaliser summed things up for him really.

Kelly - 6 - did pretty well in the circumstances and to his credit didn’t look like a problem defensively. Not easy opponents. Distribution was nervous but not an issue.

Sakho - 6.5 - tough battle but came through. Didn’t seem to organise at first but got us through.

PVA - 7 - stop PVA and these days you stop 70% of our attacks. He is often at the heart of our best openings. Wilf often seemed to drift too far into the middle leaving few opportunities for a pass today.

Townsend - 6.5 - the key to most good things in the first half but mostly nullified in the second. Defensively a bit rash today and a couple coincided with their goals.

Macca - 6.5 - excellent first half and so close to scoring an opener at a key time. Difficult to fault him on his touches but the middle two aren’t quite working for me. Should not have let Capoue pass Jim like that but see Luka.

Luka - 6 - just isn’t the Luka that finished last season. His failure to challenge Capoue for their second was pretty woeful and left us adrift. Not terrible but missing that extra that made him so dominant last year. Is his head right? He almost looks distracted, reminiscent of his time under De Boer.

Schlupp - 6.5 - thought he did well today and was a little unlucky to come off. Plays tightly to instruction and very much a team player.

Benteke - 6 - very good first half and unlucky not to score with the header. Disappeared In the second half although the turn and shot was impressive but wide. An enigma but one we need to unravel and quick.

Zaha - 6 - not sure what was going on with his game today. He has become very static. I know sometimes this is him pulling players out of the middle but he needs to watch how Hazard moves in a match. Never stays still. He is beaten to the ball and bullied. He took his goal well although a little lucky to find a gap. Benteke was screaming for the gap in but air enough he scored.

Meyer - looks very sharp but needs longer to make an impact. Got his first assist though. I would like to see him in the middle but understand why that might seem a risk against the giants of Watford.

Sorloth - won every header I think which is better but I had expected Ayew on at the death.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Swansea

Guaita
Ward Innis Kelly Schlupp
Kaikai Kouyate Meyer Puncheon
Ayew
Benteke

Guaita could still start Saturday anyway, and although Innis is a risk, it's one that protects a Sakho while Tomkins' injury is unknown. I don't want to risk any key players at this stage, and there should be enough there to compete with Swansea without taking the p!ss out of the competition.

Get Roy a new assistant.

Need someone in his ear from the sidelines. He does not manage the match from the touchline and Ray won’t challenge Roy . At 55 mins we needed to two changes - had been losing mementum in the last ten of the first half and it continued in the second.
This was the pairs flaw last year , plus no plan b and it’s there to see again. Too conservative (substitutions when they eventually come are just like for like ) At least one if not three points thrown away .
We miss Steven Reid , need a new bold influence - someone to work with the strikers

Suggested Team and Formation For: vs Southampton

Don’t care who’s in goal
AWB Tomkins Sakho PvA
Townsend Milivojevic Kouyate Meyer
Ayew Zaha

Dunno if AWB is back or not? Pray Tomkins is fit. Benteke just can’t score anymore. Hodgson is far too loyal to players. It’s his in game management that lets games drift away

Abramovich Selling Up.

Apparently, Abramovich is preparing to cash in. First in line, another mysterious US private equity company, (price ~ £2B+).
In other news, in future MI5 will decide who is a "fit and proper person".

A true American hero and a rarity of being an honorable politician.

RIP John McCain.

Not the time or place, but anyway - I thought the differences in the "tweets" from Trump and Obama were telling.

Your Favourite Ice Cream.

It's out of a possible 2 for me. Or maybe 3.

The first is Haagen Daz Strawberry Shortcake which I think will be the winner if I'm honest.

Or it's the stuff that comes from ice cream vans. With a flake and everyfink.

My big sis and her middle daughter run a coffee kiosk on Hastings sea front.
I try the whipped variety on me way home every night from work. For free. And I'm still not sure which I prefer.

I'm leaning towards the free stuff.

Oh and btw, Fab lollies are the very best.

YouTube boxing thing today.

My 15 year old son badgered me to pay for a stream (which I did after extreme nagging) which involves two youtube pricks getting into a boxing ring to settle a beef they have.

At £7.50 a time these ****ers are making a shitload of money which is great for them but I imagine a lot of that that is from vulnerable teenagers who follow these tossers on youtube hassling their parents to pay for the stream.

Also, that Brighton prick Joe Weller is on the commentary team. What a little **** he is.

I'm not really making a point here, just really pissed off with it all.

I think I'll lie down in a darkened room and listen to Pink Floyd.

Peter Gabriel.

I think he's worthy of his own thread.

I was lucky enough to see him at The Guildford Civic Centre in the middish '80's.

It was an evening with Mike Rutherford and special guest which was assumed to be the hugely popular, at the time, Phil Collins.
Turned out to be the far more talented Gabriel.
What a great night!

The one and only...

Serie A

vendredi 24 août 2018

A great start to Serie A season. Ronaldos debut in a 5 goal thriller against Chievo, when he didn’t score. Inter losing, again, to Sassuolo, Parma’s return to the top flight being a credible 2-2 draw with Udinese and Roma, the likely challengers to Juve, winning in the last minute thanks to Dzeko.

As Serie A has welcomed foreign investment, we could be on the verge of the league becoming a more relevant force. Given the influx of new stars, hoping this season will be a classic.

Does anyone else follow the league?

Also, any recommendations on areas for bars and places to watch the football?

Crystal Ball Watford away

Hi all,

Time for your Watford predictions, score, scorers and attendance please.

Buying a Boat

In a couple of years our mortgage will be paid and we're planning to move to the coast. Cliche.

The Mrs says it's a waste of money and a sure signifier of a mid life crisis but I want to buy a boat. She's suggested I just buy a Harley Davidson or go after young women. But no. I want a boat. But I've got no idea what this entails.

I'm not expecting a Sunseeker super yacht. I'll be happy to pay around the cost of a mid range car. Any idea what I could get for that? I don't want a boat to sleep in. Just to drive along the coast for an hour or so on a Sunday afternoon.

Are there any other costs I haven't thought of? If I leave it somewhere how much will a year's mooring fees be?

Is the wife right? Would this be a glorious waste of money?

Serious advice gratefully received but piss taking welcome too. It won't be any worse than what I get at home.

The trouble with you land clubbers is that you are not in thrall to the siren call of the oceans as I have been for the last three weeks...

Roy’s System

I came across this the other day. It does give a very good overview of how we set up and why we give up the wide areas. It shows how hard it was for the scousers to break us down and it was all going well

Referee for Watford

Already mentioned on the Liverpool thread, but Sunday's referee will be Mr Anthony Taylor.

IMO he's probably the weakest/biggest bottlejob ref in the Prem, so prepare for loads of decisions to go against Wilf when their crowd moan about him for 95 minutes. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if he sent him off under the pressure.

I was hoping for a strong ref for this one after the shambles of last season. Alas no luck.

Let's hope we blow them away with our football so it's not an issue.

Vuelta 2018

Starts on Saturday.

Haven't got a clue who's going to win this year!
There's no big Sky leader(s) so the race should be a more open affair.

It's unsurprisingly very lumpy, but there are fewer (more typical Spanish) stages with 160km of flat followed by a ridiculously steep ramp up to the finish. There's a bit more variety with IIRC 7 mountain-top finishes!
There are quite a few riders who didn't do well in the TDF (and also in the Giro) for different reasons who will be wanting to finish this Tour on a more positive note!

Here's some reading matter ...

Ethical foreign policies: Saudi Arabia.

Is it morally justifiable for the U.K. to sell arms to a Saudi regime that uses them to blow up bus loads of kids or does the intelligence we glean from them in the war on terror make it worthwhile?

Nigel Farage in a box for Southampton game!

Common knowledge that Nige is a Palace supporter. Speaking to a chap who knows a member of Nigel’s family well and he says he will be in a box for the Saints game! What is it with all these political figures visiting the Palace these days?!

At least Nige is a Palace supporter though unlike the Islamist (Khan)

But in all seriousness, what a pleasure it will be to have one of the best politicians of all time visit Selhurst. Let’s hope we get a win for him!

The SE25 Cast - A somewhat new Palace podcast

Hello everyone, I'm not sure how familiar you all are with Reddit or if anyone happens to visit our Crystal Palace subreddit on there ( To view the link you have to Register or Login ) but in the middle of last season we decided to set up a podcast for members of our community to come on and discuss each game and their result.

What makes our podcast a bit different is that we are community focused, in that if someone from our Subreddit or our Discord would like to come on for an episode and discuss the game that just happened they are more than welcome to, if anyone here wanted to join in for an episode we'd have no problem with that either.

Last week we released out first episode of the season where we discussed the Fulham result, as well as our transfer business, and later on this evening our Liverpool episode will be available for listening.

Here are the ways that you can listen to it:

Buying tickets using the “choose seats” function on iPad/iPhone

When buying away tickets on the online box office, I really want to use the “choose seats” option on my iPad or iPhone. Because that function requires flash (which Apple obviously doesn’t support), I find myself either settling for using “quick seats” or waiting until I can use a pc, which I don’t always have regular access to. I’ve tried downloading a couple of other browsers that claim to support flash, but the ticket website is still having none of it.

Please, does anyone know of a browser app or some other thing that I can do or download that will make the choose seats option work?

Thanks

Selhurst Super Draw...Only £2

So why has this gone up 100%? It used to be a fun thing I did with my lads, for years I have given them a quid and they have bought a ticket. One has even kept all the stubs from years ago.
Now? It's a till roll receipt with an electronically generated number that is apparently also available online.
I dunno, I'm a grumpy old git what with scousers in the AW in away shirts and no beer at HT plus Michael ******* Oliver but why did they need to change this and why double the price?

An alternative view on last night's atmosphere

I've been standing towards the back of Block B for a good few years, and whilst there have undoubtedly been worse atmospheres than last night's during that time, it has to be said that Selhurst really was very quiet yesterday evening.
I won't discuss the HF situation here as there's already a thread on that, but what I would like to highlight is one non-HF related reason why I thought the atmosphere was so muted last night: the people who've moved in to the front of Block B.
First and foremost, does anyone know whether the majority of them are season ticket holders or just day trippers? Either way, whilst at the back of the Block we really were trying our hardest to get the noise going, those at the front seemed, to me at least, to be more or less entirely silent all game.
Doubtless I'll be accused of telling other Palace fans how they should support their club here, but I really had hoped that those who took up the space left behind by the HF (as they have every right to do) would at least join in with the songs starting at the back, and provide that link in the corner between Blocks A/B and the Arthur.
But, as aforementioned, the first 10ish rows seemed more or less totally quiet all game. Did anyone else notice/have a view on this?
I'm not trying to be disrespectful to those who had tickets down at the front (some of whom, for all I know, might actually still be HF), but we really could've done with their help last night.
We don't know when the HF will be back, so we've got to try and make the best of the situation we're in, which at the very least means getting all of Block B rocking - hopefully things will improve in this regard over the coming games.

Sadiq Khan

The Mayor of London sat next to Steve Parish last night
Is he a Palace fan?

Tommy Robinson chants

I was at the game last night and also heard the Tommy Robinson chants in Block A/B. I was a little disturbed at first and made my feelings clear to my mate I go football with every week. Why were our fans singing about a racist/ islamaphone? My friend however urged me to do some research on Tommy Robinson and then to get back to him. So I have done just that today. My goodness, I urge everyone in here with negative feelings towards him to do your own research on him. He is more like a modern day Robin Hood! You will all hold very different opinions I’m sure. I might even purchase one of his books.

However, even so, what has it got to do with football? Well, football being a working-class mans sport, and Tommy seems to be standing up for the working-class of this nation. So I now totally get why people were singing his name last night.

I for one probably won’t be involved in anti Tommy songs because I don’t sing normal Palace songs anyway to be honest.

Just my view. Cheers.

Steve please rip out the seats and put in benches ...

It's obvious we have problems in the lower holmesdale .... Fans standing up and some sitting down.
Quickly replacing individual seats with long benches with no seat numbers would instantly mean fans could turn up early to form a nucleus of a singing area.
This would inject new life into the stand with youngsters able to quickly join into the singing area and fans to a naturally move out a little as they get older, if they wanted.
First come first serve for the best seats behind the goal, it's a choice you can make every week.
A cheap fast fix that could be put in place within weeks!
I freely admit I have no clue if we allowed bench sitting or if the grounds safety certificate would be affected?
Just trying to get a feel if such a move would be supported buy the fan base on here?

Stadium Wi-Fi

Has anyone had any success with this? Checking last night and found it impossible to connect, 4G being a pipe dream at halftime with everyone online at the same time. During the Toulouse match I was getting notifications that it was available but last night nada.

Anyone else checked this out ?

Starts of with the old match day classics but then kicks on with loads of really good tracks.

Homophobic & Tommy Robinson Chants Last Night

Sad to hear a return to the old days yesterday with homophobic "we know your sh**gin Will Young" chants. And then a pro Tommy Robinson / EDL one too. Clubs been very vocal in opposing this kind of thing and rightly so

Haven't heard this sh*te at Palace in years. Thought we were better than that?

Does anyone know what the attendance was for last night's match?

Liverpool fans throw flares onto pitch.

Don't seem to have seen any press or tv reaction to the flares. I guess there will be no action taken. So much for the search at the ground.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Watford (away)

Give them another go. Need to get crosses in for Benteke.

Nandos chicken

lundi 20 août 2018

Enjoyed seeing that chicken in goal (and no, i'm not talking about Wayne Hennessey... :p)

Never had so much advertising for a single company thrust into my face outside the ground!!! Parish clearly been up to some some deals over the summer I see :p

Can we appeal the Wan-Bissaka red?

The replays surely show that that is never a red card. Roy seemed to say that it was the right decision in his post match interview which can't help.

What is the point of stewards? Liverpool in the home end.

Every game there are away fans in the home end, I don’t like it but I guess it is something to put up with. Besides, I myself have done it at away games but kept quiet and tried to ‘blend in’.

However, today there was a middle-aged man wearing a Liverpool shirt. No coat to cover it up, not with kids or anything, just part of a group of fans. Why is this allowed? Why is he not refused entry?

Brentford

Went to see them play Wednesday yesterday and they were brilliant. Up until the shooting they tore Wednesday apart and could easily have won by 6 or 7. Missed 4 one on ones. I don't think their squad will be good enough to come up but the will entertain and rip some teams apart.

The moneyball system appears to work up to a point but selling all their best players will never get them promoted.

Divorce Form Filling

Quick question for anyone that might know.

I’m going through a divorce at the moment and to complete a Form A Notice of [intention to proceed with] a financial application to which the standard procedure applies.

My soon to be ex an I have agreed on finances ourselves, amicably and without cause for mediation, but I’ve been told that I have to complete this form A to accompany it. I have absolutely no idea which boxes to tick and the Internet is proving confusing at best. Other than ticking yes to Applying for an order of consent, I’m confused about which other boxes to complete, as they all seem to pointbto the court deciding on financial outcomes, when we already have.

I appreciate this is probably a long shot but does anyone have any I’m understanding that they would be willing to share.

FYI I am the respondent in the divorce.

Any help gratefully received.

Journalists that you will always read (even if you don't agree with them)

The important part is 'even if you don't necessarily agree with them'

Im keeping my list short, so for me, If I see an article by any of these I'll read them:

Jay Rayner (food -guardian) - Anyone who comes up with the line "My lips purse, like a cat's arse that's brushed against nettles" when describing a dish gets 5 stars from me.
Rod Liddle (sunday times)
John Harris (Guardian)
The late AA Gill (various)

first 7 games points total?

So come on what do we all think?

i think minimum 9 but reckon 12

Best Palace free kicks

Good video made by the club this week of the best Palace free kicks over time. I'm sure there are some not included in the video that have poor footage or perhaps no footage at all! I always thought that scoring free kicks was a very un-Palace thing to do - a bit too fancy for us! But watching it back we have scored some crackers in recent years.

My favourite is Puncheon's at Anfield. We were absolutely superb that day to ruin Gerrard's party with Chamakh in particular showing all his class in the midfield but Punch's free kick was special. There's just something stylish about a free kick whipped in low across the goalmouth to leave the goalkeeper rooted to the spot.

I’m not trying to copy the HF. I am a big advocate of their support and hope that we see them all back however that can happen...not going there anyway. Separate thread...

I do think it’s within the realm of possibility though for a group to get together and help organise displays.

Basically need a team of volunteers to help:

- raise funds (salespeople and social media whores)
- design display (need some graphic designer tekkerz)
- print/produce display (find a local print partner)
- communicate with club to plan (sure they’d be open)
- place material on matchday (many hands make light work)

Repeat. This isn’t a new group. We’ve always been here - we are called Crystal Palace fans. Palace fans for short. And whenever, however the HF come home they will have their place kept warm and be welcome back into atmosphere that they undeniably took to a whole new level.

Not saying this will be a piece of cake, it won’t be at all. But a good team of people should be able to pull this off to a good standard.

DM me if you’d be keen to help and let’s see what we can do...

Travel Information Bournemouth Away Last Train

Anyone done this of a weekday night e.g. Jan 2017?

Was it quite tight to get the last train to London?

Looking at the timetable now (for October 1st), it seems there is a last train at 22:16 from Pokesdown which seems very doable as a 10 minute jog or even 20 minute stroll, assuming the match is on time.

Or, was there a later special put on?

If dashing for the 22:16, how is one meant to buy a crate of drink for the 3 hour train journey to Waterloo?

I suppose many might consider the Club Coach for this. No rush after, and getting back same time or probably earlier than the train...

Ex-Palace players still playing

I watched the Sheffield Wednesday v Sunderland game last night and was pleasantly surprised to see that Barry Bannan was controlling the game.

I liked Barry when he played for us. I like midget midfielders who, have perfected diagonal pitch passing.

Therefore, whom else is still playing out there in the EFL and elsewhere whom used to pay for Palace?

Red Dwarf

I am off work for a few months and I am, amongst other things, watching the whole of the Red Dwarf series on Netflix.

I have to say that the episodes of series 4 and 5 were the best. Rimmerworld episode is hilarious. Genius.

The later series seem to have gone too far. I love the premise that humans are the only lifeform in the universe and all they encounter is human created.

British Sci-fi is the best. So sarcastic and demeaning. I love Red Dwarf.

Max Meyer discussion

Haven’t noticed one of these yet. On Instagram he captioned a photo of him training with ‘see you again on Monday.’ Does that mean he’ll be in the squad or am I reading into it too much?

Open Training Session

Cant see a thread on this here, so thought id mention it.

Went along with my son today, and it was brilliant!

Really good to see the players being put through their paces to an extent, and having the coaches inc Ray Lewington explaining what they were doing, and the usual process of training leading up to the game.

Great to have the club do something like this during the school holidays, and not charge a penny for it.

Biggest win for me was seeing how many little kids turning up to see the players, and the acknowledgement from the players as well.

If they do it again next yr, def recommend it.

All or Nothing

The Manchester City documentary is now available on Amazon Prime.

I watched the first two episodes last night and it is pretty ******* class.

Highly recommend to everyone; if you haven't got Amazon Prime, sign up for 30 day free trial. Ample time to watch the entire season :p

Artist at WBA Channel 4

Bit of a rush or I would have looked up the exact title/details but I watched an interesting programme on All 4 (channel 4 catch-up to last night that was interesting. Kev on FYP mentioned it on his podcast (I think). It has the artist Tia S....... (long foreign name I can't remember that is also a judge of Sky's portrait artist of the year) who spent a season with WBA painting a number of pictures but at the same time trying to understand the people and who they really were and why there is such a passion about the game. So he focused on Pulis, 3 players and a Father and so fan. Worth a watch as each were interesting and it covers the sackings etc. What was also interesting was watching his complete lack of understanding of why anyone was so bothered to him crying when WBA scored a crucial goal that at the time he thought gave them a chance.

Search for artist and you should find it. Enjoy.

Property dispute - any good lawyers?

I thought I’d reach out to the BBS to see if any of the good folk on here can advise ?

At the end of my tether with a property I bought off plan.

Bought in 2015 off plan, I was told a parking space was included in the purchase. Fast forward to completion this year, and it turns out this has been missed off the contract and now the developer (well known) is trying to charge me £30k for a space. The context is that this is a large property that needs to have a parking space to sell (I.e this materially impacts the value of the overall plot).

The estate agent who sold the place to me in 2015 has now left the company and is working for another agent (not helpful !). He is however adamant that:

- it was included in the original price and is an admin error
- other reservation forms were filled out the same way and the owners got their spaces

The question is - do I have a claim for mis-selling against the Agent / Developer?

All witnesses to the transaction agree the basis on which it was sold. Unfortunately as all of the negotiation was done face-to-face I don’t have any written confirmation.

Any advice appreciated !

or if anyone can recommend a good property litigator to have a quick conversation with, it would be much appreciated as well !

Thanks :)

How far can we progress this season?

To me, we now have the best ever Palace squad in terms of quality. We have one often best managers in our history in charge. We have a limited number of signings to integrate into the squad, whom compliment the existing talent. Our best player has just signed a five year contract. The club and fans are pretty much aligned with other and there is confidence and a feel good factor around the place.

Therefore, what do we think this will translate into? Could we win something, finish in the European spots or, do a ‘typical Palace’ and create some unnecessary controversy or problem which details all the progress to date, with us getting relegated on the last day of the season by a virtue of a single goal difference total?

If we play to our abilities and don’t suffer from injuries, we could conceivably qualify for Europe. I would actually be very happy with a mid table and a cup run, consolidation/development and see a few young talents such as Kirby come through, plus beating the scum twice & making Mourinho even more unhappy.

Luton fans supporting Tommy Robinson

Luton Town CEO urges fans to stop chants in support of Tommy Robinson

• Section of Luton support chanted far-right activist’s name
• Gary Sweet says Hatters’ trip to West Brom was ‘blemished’

Luton Town’s CEO has called on the club’s fans to stop chants in support of Tommy Robinson, after a section of their support was heard to back the founder of the English Defence League.

In a statement released on the club’s website, Gary Sweet said the club’s Carabao Cup tie against West Brom was “blemished” after the name of “a political figurehead” was sung by the visiting fans. Far-right activist Robinson – real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon – was jailed for contempt of court after he filmed outside Leeds crown court during a trial, but was released on bail earlier this month after an appeal court ruled that he should face a retrial.

A small number of Luton’s 1,100-strong travelling support were heard to sing Robinson’s name at the Hawthorns, a game Luton lost 1-0, as they also did in the Hatters’ previous away game, against Portsmouth in League One.

“Apart from the result, our experience was blemished, for the second away game running, by hearing the chanting the name of a political figurehead by a small number of Hatters supporters,” said Sweet. “This is hugely disappointing for us, as a board, because the individual in question wasn’t playing or involved in the squad or staff.

“Everyone at the club has worked extremely hard and will continue to work tirelessly to create an environment – whether that be Kenilworth Road or any away game – for our community of supporters to support their team and enjoy a football match knowing that all prejudice – whether that be political, religious, cultural or racial – can and should be left for another day.

“This allows us to invite anybody into our environment without discomfort, disrespect or fear, and welcome any and every member of our wide community respectfully.

“We absolutely accept and respect the fact that everyone holds their own independent opinions and values, but we politely ask for you to temporarily overlook those views for a couple of hours or so when attending Luton Town matches in future.”

Luton’s next away game is against Peterborough United this Saturday.

Fifty Years Supporting Palace.

Just realised that yesterday marked the fiftieth year since I first walked down onto the Holmesdale and stood to watch Palace play for the first time ever.

157 page thread about Wilf leaving this summer on North Korea Chat

Has anyone read this? The thing is hilarious. The first few pages are dripping in anticipation about Wilf leaving and the end of it is justifying that no one wanted him.

What they're all missing is that Wilf will be ripping the stuffing out of their barely premiership quality squad for another season in the red and blue.

Carabao Cup 2nd Round

Draw is tomorrow night - alongside the winners of 1st Round ties, the 13 Premier League sides who are not involved in a European Competition and Stoke/Swansea will be in the hat.

Once the teams have been confirmed (apart from tomorrow's fixtures) a North and South split will divide the draw, there are no seedings in the competition.

So, who do we want?

Title winning odds

Anyone know who offers the best odds for Palace winning the title this season. I just fancy a slightly tongue in cheek bet. Obviously we are not likely to win the title but I just feel that we will be much better this season than people realise. Need to get the bet on before we stuff Liverpool and cat is out of the bag ;)

Shut down / sleep problems

Hello,

A long and exhaustive google has yet to yield any positive results. Since a windows update several months my laptop (an HP) has failed to shut down or sleep properly.

If I shut down it doesn't complete the process and if I close the lid it will not wake up. The only solution is to open the lid and do a hard restart holding the power button until it powers down.

Any one got any solutions, I have been through all the various sleep and power settings through control panel and its driving me mad that my otherwise healthy laptop is so painful to use.

Any Danish Palace fans?

I'm in Denmark next week, staying near Asserbo north of Copenhagen. Any Danish Palace fans on here know a good place that might show the Palace v Liverpool game on the Monday night?

Also thinking of going to a game on the Sunday either FC Roskilde or FC Nordsjælland, anyone ever been or any tips?

cheers

The Future of Sports Broadcasting

La Liga has just signed a deal to be exclusively on Facebook in India, the US Open tennis is now on Amazon Prime - who also have 20 PL games this season with two rounds of fixtures exclusively live in their platform. Amazon also have the ATP Tour from next season, and the US Open tennis from this year. There are also huge deals been done with Discovery for the Olympics (which stay on the BBC over here without so many Red Button streams) and the PGA Tour (although Sky have it at least until 2022. Then there was Eleven Sports with the PGA Champs, La Liga, Serie A. Twitter is going for streaming of NFL games as is YouTube. F1 is also known to be wanting to go more to an on line experience. There are also the in house streams like Palace Player.

Until recently - for us in the UK sports viewing was very simple - the traditional 4 - BBC, ITV, C4 and C5, Sky, Eurosport and BT, all TV based but increasingly using different delivery methods with on demand, on line (Sky Go, iPlayer) and clips offerings (eg BBC Web TMS highlights). You paid the licence and then decided whether to take some sort of bundle for Sky and/or BT. Now, the market is getting fractured, and the social media and on line offerings are coming seriously into play - albeit mostly (at the moment) on the more niche sports and leagues.

I suppose to me this throws up two questions. (and I should say that despite my advancing years I am very IT savvy having worked in the industry all my career). Firstly, just how does the average consumer wanting to watch two or three of say, football, cricket, F1, golf, rugby and tennis keep to a reasonable financial outlay with all these different providers charging for their content?

But secondly - and I know that "youngsters" increasingly watch stuff on tablets, phones etc - what does it say for the hardware side of the TV industry and how people watch? Someone said on the golf thread that they watched the last few holes of the PGA on their laptop, I watched some on FB - not the usual social experience of watching live sport with family & friends on a large screen with a few beers or glasses of wine. Some of the offerings (not Eleven at the moment) do offers apps on interactive TV which are fine - if you have decent BB etc - but that goes back to the multiple providers and multiple fees.

I think that the "traditional" players like ITV, Sky, and to a lesser extent the BBC & BT, are underplaying the value of their more mixed delivery methods - live TV, on demand and live on line/streamed but other than Sky they are clearly struggling to keep pace financially - and ultimately the consumer will end up paying more.

TV will inevitably end up as a web delivered service in the years to come with satellite and aerial delivery fading away - but will we all sit watching in isolation in our bedrooms, offices, on phones or tablets - or will it still be the haunted fishbowl in the corner?

Pubs/bars to watch Palace in Edinburgh on Monday

Afternoon all,

I'm having to travel up to Edinburgh for work on Monday, so thanks to Sky I've given my season ticket to a mate.

Does anyone know of any decent places that will be showing the Palace/Liverpool game in Edinburgh city centre/Haymarket? Ideally somewhere where I can watch it in peace and sit down (I'm far too old for this standing up and beer throwing nonsense we saw over the summer).

Any recommendations welcome.

London's Metropolitan Police service said Tuesday that a man was in custody after driving a car into a gate outside the Houses of Parliament in the British capital, injuring "a number of pedestrians." It remained unclear whether the crash was intentional.

No further information was immediately provided by the police. Streets in the area surrounding the British legislature were cordoned off and closed to traffic during peak morning rush hour and there was a heavy police presence.

One witness told British television network Sky that he saw the car driving toward Parliament at high speed.

Police at the scene told CBS News it was an ongoing incident

Tourist Tickets

I have a friend in Denmark that is coming over to the UK in December and wants to take his son to the Palace v Burnley match.

When I lived in Denmark in 2007 I took a bunch of the guys in the office to London for the weekend to watch Palace at Selhurst Park and he would now like to take his son. What would be the best way for him to get tickets as a "one off"?

Suggested Team and Formation For: Liverpool at home

I know we are at home but I think we need to sit in and keep our shape. Kouyate starts for me in a narrow 4-3-2-1:

Hennesey
AWB. Tomkins. Sakho. PVA
Luka. Kouyaté. McArthur
Zaha. Townsend
Benteke

Breaking with the full backs at pace. Make Liverpool break us down.

Which summer signing will have the greatest impact this season?

Well, it is hard to say how long it will take each player to get fit and to then get a place in the team but which do we think will be raving about most come May and the POTY awards 2018/19?

I think it will be Kouyaté, mostly for his versatility. I see him chipping in with some wonder goals too.

Emery covering his mouth

I dont often watch other football matches than Palace but yesterday watched the Man City vs Arsenal match. For the first time over I saw a manager covering his mouth when talking on the sideline, one time he was talking to a player who wasnt covering his mouth. For this alone I hope he lasts 6 months.

Brentford Away - League Cup 1st Round - 1st Leg

Lost 2-1

Ridiculous isn't it … I cant remember to put the bins out in the morning, but I can remember, as a 17 year old, details of a league cup game 41 years ago.

Hot, sunny day … I went to wrong train station … South Ealing … and had to walk what seemed like miles.

Crowd violence in the shape of "Chelsea Punks" appearing on the covered End terrace.

Anybody else got any recollection?

A week later I went to Millwall and watched a sublime 3-0 win.

Fifa 19

Did anyone else get an invite to the Beta testing. Interesting new game mode just for fun. Survival mode. You can turn off the ref and also when you score a goal, you get a player removed.

The gameplay itself seems very similar with a slight tweak to First time touch and shooting is a little different too. Other than that, I am a little underwhelmed by the lack of change.

Rumour: Wickham and Ward out on loan

Quote:

Alan Nixon@reluctantnicko

PALACE. Wickham can go on loan for games. STOKE and BLACKBURN checking into that one. Needs action after lay off.
Quote:

Alan Nixon @reluctantnicko

WEST BROM. Want Joel Ward from PALACE on loan with a view to a buy. First choice before Tavernier. May try again. Need to bring wallet.
Wickham i could see but loaning out Ward would surely leave us a little short at RB.

Emergency Loan to Lay Off a Large Bet

My friend has a golf treble where 2 legs have come in and 3rd leg is Brooks Koepka who is leading by 2. He would win £82,000 if he wins but given his odds are 6/5 he'd rather lock in a £35,000 profit. Skybet have refused to make any offer to close the bet which is bizarre but to fully lay the bet off on Betfair he needs to find £55,000 in the next few hours. Anyone had a similar issue and found a solution?

Best Palace Defensive Partnership

I think we’re currently watching one of the best defensive partnerships we’ve ever had at the club with Tomkins & Sakho. I still can’t get over just how good Tomkins is - £10mil is proving to be an absolute bargain.

So it got me thinking, which defensive partnership is your favourite in your time supporting Palace?

Player Ratings And Reviews: Fulham 0-2 Crystal Palace (FT)

samedi 11 août 2018

Shocked it hasn't been done by now, slacking after the off season folks ?!

(Ratings out of 10)
WH: 10 Didn't put a foot wrong

AWB: 9 Made light work of Sessegnon and an assist

JT: 8 Solid and assured

MS:8 Solid and seemed always first to react to Waynes saves

PVA: 7.5 Energetic but seemed not to feature in last 30 or so before PS got a run

AT: 7.5 Hard Working as usual, more bullets for the front 2 next time hopefully

JMc: 8 So important, such a reliable Midfielder

LM: 8 Made some good interceptions and a good team up with Jimmy

JS: 8 Would've given him more after his goal but let Christie have too much space on their right for a good while that made me nervous, lovely finish though !

WZ: 8 Thanks to his goal, for a while was worried Chambers had him under wraps but should've had 2, possibly 3 in the end

CB: 7.5 Almost with a 1st half header, was an effective target, Zaha should've buried his flick on in the 2nd half but distinct lack of chances again has me worrying he needs a League goal ASAP

Subs:

CK, AS and PS weren't on long enough to do too much, well except Cheik had a great chance where he should've passed to Jimmy for an easier chance but saw his name in lights instead, we can forgive him it seeing as we were 2 up I suppose :)
