137:

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

Wimbledon

Some pretty cracking matches already.

Liam Broady on the first day was one hell of a comeback. Great to see Watson get through earlier today too. And is it just me, or is the women's game a lot more varied and exciting these days - convinced I was watching old school BJK serve and volley at times today. Could it be that skill and deftness actually replaces tree trunks this year?

Federer was regal as always. The man is so sinuous, it's just a joy to watch. Novak had a tough ride, but TBF Kohlschreiber is the kind of opponent you'd expect at the start of week 2, not the opening day. Rafa and Murray through after slight wobbles at times.

Murray for the men's for me. Fancy Kyrgios to get to the Semis. Think it might be too much for Serena this year, and it could be anyone once she's gone. Maybe Lisicki?

Good sunny resort in October with baby

Any tips for good resort to go to in October. Main criteria:
  • Need some guaranteed sun
  • A shortish flight from London
  • Baby/toddler friendly
  • No chavs
  • Somewhere ok to walk around and see stuff, but mostly beachy!
  • Not acceptable to drink magners/aftershock at 11am

The 'Leap Second'

What measures will you all be taking to deal with this? I for one will be staying up to check all household appliances still work and nothing disastrous happens.

"Midnight will come later tonight as for the first time in three years an extra second is added to the official time set by atomic clocks.

The "leap second" means the last minute of June will have 61 seconds in it.
Leap seconds - and leap years - are added as basic ways to keep the clock in sync with the Earth and its seasons.

However, there are concerns the extra second could cause problems for some computer systems because it has to be added manually."

Terry Wharton

no idea why but a vague memory if Terry popped into my head this morning. Seem to remember him joining us and I think he scored either a very quick goal early on in his stay or he scored the first goal of our season. Something like that. Didn't stay long being at the end of his career. The match I think was either in the North or against a Northern team.

Gonna watch this on Thursday...it's making it's way around the country with small limited showings...looks to be heavy duty. Basically when the US invaded Vietnam, Cambodians had their first taste of rock music through Armed Forces Radio and built their own vibrant scene. Then, with the rise of Pol Pot and Khmer Rouge most all of the scene was tortured and murdered and they tried to destroy all the music as well. A compilation of the music was just released on To view the link you have to Register or Login, one of my favorite labels.

Looking for an old friend, can anyone help?

Hi,

I'm looking for an old mate of mine called Billy Rixon that I used go to games regularly with in the 80's.

I last saw him about 15 years ago, he was living in Waddon at that time but I have since lost contact with him.

It would be great to get back into contact with him so if anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Colin G

Help with white goods when renting

I currently rent a house in Carshalton and i am having a problem with my fridge freezer.

WE reported that it had a problem on the 16th May.
They sent someone to look at it on the 25th May and he said it was bust and a new one was needed It will slowely get warmer and the part will evently give in.
This weekend it finally went completley with about £50 of food in there.
Not that fussed about the food but as i have a 3 year old son i have had to feed him so i have bought a mini fridge this weekend for milk and essentials. This cost £60.

Were do i stand on getting this paid back and what pressure can i put on them to get it sorted quicker. As a mini fridge just isn't that big. It is also costing me a fortune buying food every day.

Another 'new business' thread

I was out for a walk with the missus and our little one and the thought occurred to us both that it would be awesome to have a babies play cafe in our area. The kind of place where you can go with a little one, sit and have a decent coffee and play with your baby without bothering the kind of curmudgeonly gits who don't want that kind of thing at their local Nero. Coincidentally, we saw a vacant business premises to let, which would be perfect for just such a purpose. This has set me on a chain of thought that I don't want to let go of until I've at least done some proper research to find out if this might be possible. The truth is, that although we've had a nice idea, neither of us have much experience in making a business plan or starting a business from scratch. We are both thinking that there must be an awful lot that we don't know about, which we really should know about if a venture like this is to survive. Things like accounting and the legal aspects of running a business are going to be completely new to me. I actually don't know exactly how much I don't know.

This is why I have decided to approach the BBS - long acknowledged as a comprehensive font of knowledge, good business sense complete lack of sarcasm - to give me some pointers as to what must be borne in mind at the seminal stages of making a startup small business. I'd like to ask for your input as to what I might have forgotten . Considering I'm starting from a very small knowledge base, please don't assume I'm remembering anything that you think should go without saying. The chances are, I don't know about it. Particularly, I'd like to hear from anybody who has learned something in their small business that they wish they had known from the start. Over to you BBS. Show me your pearls. Of wisdom.

Suggestion: George Friend

Need a decent left back as Kelly and Souare are not good enough. 27 years old, was in championship TOTY last season and has won Middlesbrough POTY for last 2 seasons. With Boro missing out on promotion, he would surely love a move up to the prem.

Rumour: Matt Phillips

Quote:

Crystal Palace are battling with West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland to sign Queens Park Rangers winger Matt Phillips.

Phillips was a rare shining light for QPR last season during the club’s relegation from the Premier League and the 24-year-old is poised to leave Loftus Road.

Palace, West Brom and Sunderland have all opened talks over a deal to sign Phillips, although it is understood that no club has agreed a deal with QPR at this stage.

QPR are likely to demand around £8 million for Phillips, who cost the club £5m when he joined from Blackpool two years ago.

Phillips scored a stunning 40-yard goal in QPR’s defeat at Palace in March that manager Alan Pardew claimed was better than David Beckham’s famous long-range effort.

US allows Gay marriage and brace themselves for the pending wrath of god

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Americans react on Facebook. Some gems I've just seen - there were 2740 comments on this news article at the time. I'd say 9/10 were negative. Where would America be without guns and religion? In 2015?

Wendell Wilburn: SUPREME COURT JUST RULED THAT ALL GAY MARRIAGES MUST BE ACCEPTED EVERYWHERE. Christians Gird up Your loins for the fight against Satan. The Supreme Court Just tried to take the Power of the Supreme Being. WOE,WOE, WOE and pity for America. All Churches and Pastors and Christians are fair game for destruction from the President, Supreme Court and All the Leaders in Government.

Dennis A Lippy: The perverts win another one. The court is as sick and disgusting as the perverts are.

Harvey Altemose: It may be time for us to begin assembling the militia as was done in the 1700's, when tyranny ruled. Our Constitution gives us the right to take our nation back, when those we elected into office no longer act for our benefit.

Glenda Trapp Wardrup: They can rule all they want. Marriage is Marriage defined by God.

Drew Patterson: We have gone from a God fearing nation to a godless nation. May God have mercy on us, but I fear it is too late for that now.

Eula Eaker Ledford: This ruling only let us know where America will stand in the scheme of things of Bible prophecy. There is only one critical decision left American will have to decide to drive the final nail for its destruction and that being where do we stand on Israel? The question remains how long will God allow his creation to provoke him and his laws and laugh at him. Who is the supreme being God or man? We are about to find out.

Donna Smith Bignar: Heaven help us. God cannot be happy with America. We can all read in the Bible what happened to nations when they angered God. I am no longer just angry with the direction that Obama and those who are advising him and following him are taking this country. I am fearful of God's wrath upon this country if congress does not throw on the brakes. In two more years, we will not know America as the country our forefathers fought and died for.

Richard Myers: Another negative mark in History was made today (2 Peter 2:19) political correctness applied enough pressure allowing a curable sexual addiction to become ruled as part of a family role. No matter what, the homosexual couples still cannot create babies. However, it is also sad that they can adopt and force their lifestyle on children. Jehovah God please forgive this nation for not keeping you the holy Creator God you are. All our Leaders, Pastors and teachers in any position of authority who teach or lead anyone astray from any of Gods instructed Holy bible will be held accountable to an even higher standard when they meet God.

Metroid Games Series (Nintendo)

After all the furore ove the Metroid game shown at E3 I have been on a bit of a Metroid trip the last week or so. Super Metroid is one of my favourite games of all time, in fact it is number two in my own personal list. Anyway over the last week or two I have been buying up all of the games and now own every Metroid game bar Pinball on either my 3DS or Wii U. Such great games.

Are there any other Metroid fans (or loathers) for that matter patrolling the BBS these days? Would love to talk about one of my favourite series of games. I even use Samus about 90% of the time on all the Smash Bros games. Anu thoughts on any Metroid games, future games, ideas etc? Not really got used to Metroid Prime on the Wii version yet, the controls are still a bit weird for me, and even Metroid Prime Hunters on the 3DS takes a bit of getting used to having to use the stylus to look around.

I get the feeling Nintendo tend to neglect Metroid due to the fact it seems more popular in the US and Europe than it is in Japan. Nintendo seem a bit funny like that though, games like Fire Emblem and Earthbound generally being Japan only releases until the recent past.

Rumour: Ashley Williams

Quote:

Crystal Palace are eyeing an ambitious move for Swansea centre back Ashley Williams

The 30-year-old has been outstanding for Swansea and Wales over recent seasons and saw a prospective move to Arsenal fall through last year as they baulked at Swansea's £12m asking price.

Palace manager Alan Pardew is a firm admirer and wants to test Swansea's resolve to keep the Wales captain and team him with Everton target Scott Dann.

Palace have also made a move for Swansea target, Benfica striker Ola John.

The 23-year-old John has two years left on his current deal with Benfica but they are ready to sell the Holland international for around £7million . Swansea have also held talks with his brother and agent Collins John but stopped short of agreeing a fee.

Rumour: Ola John

mercredi 24 juin 2015

Quote:

Crystal Palace are close to trumping Swansea City to the signing of Benfica winger Ola John, Goal understands.

The 23-year-old looked to be heading to the Liberty Stadium, with the player's brother, Collins John, revealing in May that the Swans had made the best impression after talks.

"Some other clubs in the Premier League were interested, but Ola had the best feeling with Swansea City," the former Fulham striker told Voetbal International.

"Last season Swansea already tried to sign Ola, but the transfer failed at the very last moment. The club followed him after that in the hope of agreeing a contract with him. That moment is very close."

John has two years left on his current deal with the Portuguese giants, but they are ready to cash in on the one-time Netherlands international after a move to failed to materialise last summer.

Goal understands that Pardew has already met with John and is confident of securing his first summer addition after seeing Brede Hangeland pen a new contract and planning extension talks with James McArthur.

Perhaps it is just me but does anybody else think that the political debate in England is now becoming not only tedious but also with such a bitter divide that we are in serious danger of becoming a nation split into two rival camps ?

On the one side we seem to have a vocal left wing that is prominent on social media and makes a lot of noise but seems to be almost powerless and a right wing that seems to be cowed from expressing what it truly thinks but actually gets out to vote when it matters and is increasingly looking likely to dominate the actual results, as opposed to the debate, around English politics ?

Has it ever been thus ? Or has this last election fragmented English politics (and that is without the impending boundaries changes) in a way that nothing else seems to have done for a long long time ?

It strikes me that the left is dominated by people who don't actually like the 'English' very much and seem to make no bones about it. Have the left, in the course of the growth of this almost visceral loathing of the English, actually sealed their own fate to the political wilderness or are they simply playing the long game with their hopes pinned on future waves of immigration or the tribal loyaltys of 2 and 3rd generation migrants eventually over-whelming what could be (clumsily) described as the indigenous population ?

Arkham Knight

Anyone got this? Loads of problems reported on PC but it's been running fine for me (980 + 4790k)

Excellent game so far. Packed with side missions and the world is huge compared to previous installments. The only negative, so far, for me is the being forced to use that Batmobile, which becomes a bit of a chore after the novelty wears off.

Suggestion: Alex Song and Jon-Obi Mikel

According to the Times West Ham are refusing to pay £5m for Song. Mikel is also looking to get out at Chelsea. I think either would be great signings.

I know there's been frustration that we haven't signed anyone yet, but I think that these types of opportunities could come up as new signings go to 'bigger' clubs. Pards said that we're well positioned for the players that these clubs no longer need.Vic Mo could be another example where if we're patient we can get better players.

Problem about aware of the CPFC fundraising

Dear all member!
We know most of you are aware of the CPFC Foundation and the programmes we run in the local community, some of you have even benefitted from our ongoing projects.

We are proud to exist under the mighty name of Crystal Palace FC, a club with deep roots and longstanding heritage in the community, but the CPFC Foundation itself runs as separate from the infrastructure of Crystal Palace FC. By this, we mean that the CPFC Foundation exists as a charitable trust with no direct financial investment from Crystal Palace FC.

Being that we are entirely self-funded, we are reaching out to our loyal fan base, faithful supporters and trusted friends to drive our future aspirations forward and create the most successful, thriving football Foundation that exists in the game.

To do this, we need your help! The CPFC Foundation will be organising a variety of fun filled charity events, challenges and fundraising days to support the growth of your Foundations activity. Our current model has allowed us to develop and excel in certain areas, now we are looking to be a sector leader in every department, and all in the name of mighty Crystal Palace FC.

Information about Reunion

Hello everybody.

Real long shot on too fronts...I would love to make contact with anyone that was in the sainsburys end during the late eighties to mid nineties as that was when my late dad worked heaven and earth to get us up from somerset as season ticket holders (all 5 of us) to watch the mighty palace as season ticket holders.
Kids being kids the cost of that season ticket and transport costs were lost on us so rather than watch football we would have a game under the stand with whatever constituted a ball for pretty much the entire game or until the parents realised their hard earnt cash was going on a crushed can of whites lemonade.
Also I would love to get hold of a photo of me being mascot in i think the 89 game at home to blackburn which sadly along with all my 400+ programmes got pinched.
I know there was a lad called lee who used to have a kick around and by coincidence was mascot at the same game. and also three brothers ben, lee and simon who were living at locks bottom at the time.
Any help would be appreciated and obviously willing to pay for photo or programme. Oh and my mum added i like stamp collecting in the programme profile as a joke for my 18th birthday in years to come.....fantastic.
Once again any help would be whole heartedly appreciated.

Suggestion: Shane Long

With Southampton signing forward Juanmi from Malaga, they now have him, Pelle, Mane and Jay Rodriguez returning from injury.

At the beginning of the month he was linked with QPR as part of a deal to see Charlie Austin go the other way.

Pacey and hardworking and has a goal scoring record of around 1 in 4 in the Prem.

Suggestion: Jordan Amavi

If we are looking at 24 year old Davide Santon, a LB from Inter / recently Toon, as 'competition' for Pape, we should really be looking at 21 year old Jordan Amavi, Nice's LB who would cost about half of Santon's fee and certainly fits the mould with him being French, and having bigger potential regarding sell-on fees etc...

He's touted as being France's next LB and is Europe's most in-form LB:

Surprised he's not been suggested before tbh.

The When Thread?!

lundi 22 juin 2015

So here we go our own special 'WHEN' Thread. :p

I'll start it off with 'WHEN' Sponsors come?

Stan Bowles Diagnosed with Alzheimer's

Very sad that a proper genius footballer from the 70's has succumbed to this horrible illness. Liked a drink and a gamble by all reports, is skint now.

I know he was never Palace related but he played for QPR before they became the play thing of foreign owners.

But I always remember as a teenager in the 70's him and Tony Currie were two of the best players of their era. Often claimed to be the new Georgie Best's.

It's incredible to think that between them they only got 22 caps for England?

help request

Hi, I hope this is allowed but I need to ask for your help.I dont post often but I sit in the Lower Holmesdale and I missed the last games of the season because my 19 yr old daughter was pregnant with her first baby, my grandson Noah. Unfortunately he died a week before he was due and we are all devastated. Any way my daughter has set up a go fund me page to help her pay for a headstone as we have spent all our savings on the funeral and making sure he had a day to remember. If any of the Palace family would like to help us, however small We would be very grateful. Thanks for reading.

her gofundme page is Noahs head stone fund ..Meads Ward Eng(as I am not able to post a link)

Happy Birthday Ant Palace

Wedding Reception Venues (Croydon/Surrey)

Turning to the useful advice of the BBS when it comes to this topic that I am grossly inexperienced in.

Does anyone have any recommendations of a venue to have a wedding reception party (not the ceremony, this will be in a church in Croydon), that is within easy driving distance of central Croydon (there will be hire buses to move people to it too).

Will be around 50-60 people so not looking for anything massive, but definitely somewhere that can feed this amount of people and have a dancefloor etc, and hopefully provide accommodation for some (not essential though).

Not set on any type of venue; urban hotel, countryside manor, or anything in between is good.

Rumour: Davide Santon

I posted this in the Transfer Rumour thread but digging around probably needs its own thread note the Italian press think its unlikely but it appeared a couple of times now....

It might have to be moved to a full rumour soon but twitter has a few comments about I think an article in Italy suggesting we are interested in Davide Santon, left back well rated by Jose when there, was at Newcastle now back at Inter.

Translation of an article on Google :- The news of the market seems somewhat absurd . The portal Sportmediaset known , however , is convinced: Davide Santon could arrive at the Crystal Palace . This is the news of the transfer market in Inter left the house today , despite the focus of attention is all on the matter Kondogbia . The young talent could have to pack up and joining in the Premier League ?

Advice on house buying in Croydon

My son is thinking of putting an offer in on a property in Bourne Road in Croydon. He knows it isn't the best area but would be grateful for any advice as to whether it is acceptable and if there is anything he should be aware of.

Carpenter - Mid Sussex

Not a tribute band but a plea for assistance.

Been let down a few times now by various handy-people's. I need a patio door frame replaced (sliding door is aluminium and does not need replacing) plus a couple of other small tasks done about the house, I am guessing one days' work? Close to A2300, near Burgess Hill.

I need the collective to aid me in my search.

Please PM any solid recommendations or if you do this kind of thing.

Cheers.

Palace Managers in their prime XI

Bit of a left back problem. Bit of a problem with defenders in general - it is is surprising how few managers we have had who have been defenders!

Discussion: "All managers need to be fully involved in transfers"

In light of what happened last summer with Pulis I thought this was an interesting comment from Pardew recently and worthy of discussion. Also, based on the comments that we can compete with the likes of Everton, Newcastle and even Spurs I'm assuming this means he wants us to go into the £50k/week+ category for players.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

I cant deny it is exciting being linked to players like Cabaye, Remy etc. but am I the only one who feels a bit uneasy about the ever increasing wage bill? I reckon keeping Pardew happy with the transfer situation could be a tough task for Parish this summer, hope they find the right balance and signings.

Religious Conventions at Selhurst Park

I believe Billy Graham held a rally one time, and also the Jehovahs Witnesses, as my mum was baptised there I believe in the late 60's, any one any idea how many years they held these at SP?

Swimming pool

vendredi 19 juin 2015

We are planning to have a swimming pool built in our back garden and are down to the nitty gritty of negotiating price and "extras". (8m x 4m x 1.8m. NSW, 100km north of Sydney)

Has anyone got any opinions on the best form of heating? (Bottled) gas, electric heat pump, solar or just let the sunshine warm it up?

I know this is mostly aimed at ex-pats in warmer climes but Palace are now a "global brand"...

Kerry Dixon Jailed for 9 Months

Former England and Chelsea footballer Kerry Dixon has been jailed for nine months for punching and kicking a man who is said to have called him "fatso".
Dixon, 53, denied assaulting the man at a pub in Luton in May 2014, but was convicted of the offence last week.
Luton Crown Court heard the assault was captured on CCTV cameras at the Nag's Head in Dunstable.
Judge Barbara Mensah described the attack as "shocking and sickening to watch".

Blimey !

Discussion: Steven Caulker

I said on another thread that this time last year we were all creaming ourselves that we were after Steven Caulker, but he made a mistake and signed for Arry boy and had a bad season. Now I see that Bournemouth are after him. He's still only 23 and has bags of potential, so is he still worth a second look?

What I don't understand is if they were in the landing gear compartment why wouldn't they have frozen to death at -60C at altitude? Or did they wear extra long johns? They would starve of oxygen as well surely? But this seems to be pretty common as are deaths caused.

Maybe the bloke had been dead for hours and fell out when the landing gear doors opened. The other one was half dead when he was found.

Are they bonkers, how desperate are these people?

I mean really.Surely everyone has heard the stories of people freezing to death in planes where the wheels stow away?

Good to see that there is live(legal)coverage of this event from the official website, usopen.com
The course looks amazing. They have three channels, one devoted to following a group( next up Woods, Ooosthuizen and someone else, can't remember), covering the holes 12 and 15 and a third channel showing other events like practice area and so on. Very good.

Good price to supply / fit French doors?

i've been shopping about for some uPVC double glazed French doors and came across a local (and reputable) firm who have quoted me £1380 to supply and fit a set of VEKA French doors, A rated , hinges to allow the doors to open wider and door stops to avoid the door from swinging back against the hinges and causing damage

I'll be honest, I have no idea if that's a decent price. I was hoping for a couple of hundred less (and will be bartering if I can) but wondered if anybody had any recent comparisons to share?

Cheers.

Sony Xperia Z NUC Code

can anyone help? Been banging my head against a wall with Vodafone trying to get a network unlock code. It's been 3 weeks now and I'm still no closer despite having requested it twice. Don't really want to fork out the quoted price from some of these websites which is £20+.

Any other ideas chaps?

How much is down the back of your sofa?

£26.29p for me and 12p in the armchair. Result :p

Discussion: Will we sign anyone before the start of the season?

Lots of other clubs getting business done early. Lots of rumours floating around about various players we're trying to sign. Cabaye, Remy, Casillas ( :D ), etc.

Come on, let's face it - we all know that in reality, we'll be kicking off with the same players to pick from (minus a few we've let go) as we finished last season. I'm not bothered personally, I'm quite happy with the squad we have - but I predict a rising level of hysteria in the coming weeks if any signings fail to materialise :D

Training Ground Update

There was a deal agreed to buy HSBC's ground in Beckenham but they changed their mind due to the impact on staff morale. Plan B is to rent grass pitches from Goals and the kids will train and play there leaving more room for the U21s and adults at the current ground. It's been suggested that the combination could get us to Cat 1.

The Met ( new documentary series )

I watched this series last night and found it very reassuring and thought it showed the met police in a good light .

Everyone seemed very well trained and thorough nothing like the Sweeney of the 70/80s .

Find it hard to understand how sometimes the met go OTT like when we played Brighton at home and a few demo 's I have been on .

Can't see that there is a thread devoted solely to them...I personally think they deserve one...:hi:

Has anyone heard their new track? If so, what are your thoughts? I think it's superb.

I can't think of many better bands in the world than them right now. Having seen a number of their gigs, their are even fewer bands better live IMO.

2015/16 season compared with last season calculator

The following thread compares the results from last season to the actual results in the coming season. It is not a predictor but it does provide a guide to how well we are doing overall.

In our first season it was our form against the clubs who eventually finished below us that stood out, whereas last season we almost doubled our number of points against the teams that finished above us but dropped points against teams that finished below us, particularly at home. Our away form continues to be our main strength.

Over the 2 seasons around one third of our points have come from the teams who finished above us and two thirds from the teams below. However, in both seasons we only accumulated 16 points in the first half of the season. Before the fixtures came out I thought we should be aiming for 25 points in the first half of the season and looking at the comparable results from last season this is certainly achievable. That would leave us in a comfortable mid-table position at the half way stage but as we know things don't often go to plan.

I have switched the results from last season for Hull to Bournemouth, Burnley to Watford and Norwich to QPR.

What is the point of FMV trailers ?

I just don't get it . Why show off your new game with a just full motion video and no gameplay footage?

Any game company can produce a video...why do it for the new gen games when the video could have easily been done on old gen ?

It always strikes me as they are hiding something . Does anyone buy a game or is swayed into purchase based on these adverts ?

Leg injury

Hi all, need a bit of help. Over 2 weeks ago I was playing football for the first time in a while and as I stretched my leg going for a ball and being kicked at the same time did a bit of damage. I went to the hospital the next day as was in a lot of pain. Had the usual x rays done but as my leg was very swollen he couldn't see that much. They gave me a temporary leg support cast that I can use and crutches but after the first couple of days I found it okay to walk on my legs again although there was a bit of pain.

The real problem however is what followed. Every night since I have felt really bad pain at night which I don't feel too much during the day. It's like a very dull ache pain and no tablets help including the co-dyromol I was given. Literally having the worst sleeps ever. I'm due to see a specialist next Friday but wanted to see if anyone has experience or knows why it's like this. When they called back to book the specialist appointment they said they could not see anything too serious.

Estonian Cup game ends 36-0

The funniest thing is that there are two goals in the 74th minute. I also think it's hilarious that another team had a 20-0 win the same day.

It reminds me of the famous Arbroath vs Bon Accord result, which was also 36-0. Another game played that same day finished Dundee Harps 35, Aberdeen Rovers 0. The myth is that the Dundee players convinced the ref that the score was 35-0 not 37-0 as they couldn't account for who scored two goals. If they had let the ref send in the score, they would have had more than Arbroath.

I feel sorry for those members of the family who genuinely didn't know what was going on and have lost a loved one.

However, if these morons want to go to Syria or Iraq, and allow themselves to be talked into blowing themselves up, I say we chip them, fingerprint them, iris scan them, take their passports and parachute them straight into Kirkuk.

If they don't want to live as Britons, why not grant them their wish to live for a short period under ISIS?

Rumour: Ben Davies

Daily Mail are reporting that we're considering a move for Spurs left-back Ben Davies on loan (To view the link you have to Register or Login). Interesting if this comes off - think Souare's done well overall and we do have plenty of cover at left-back...maybe Pardew's thinking of viewing Kelly solely as a centre-back option for next season, wants a specialist left-back to provide competition for Pape? Seem to recall Davies being pretty decent for Swansea a season or two ago.

(Article also mentions we're looking at contract talks with McArthur, which would be good.)

Fck me I nearly chinned him

dimanche 14 juin 2015

My bosses mate,he comes from the middle east speaks perfect English, not short of a few bob, english educated and supports the Arse and has done for the last 10+ years.Flies in to see them quite often.

So were all coming back on the train from Gatwick this morning and it stops at Selhust station "Thats where the mighty Crystal Palace play" I say to him

Why do you support Crystal Palace, when they lose all the time.
Why do you go up and down the country to watch them lose.
Did they get relegated this year.
What are your fans like,do they make much noise.

To try and explain the feelings for your club and that there is more than 6 teams in the premier league to a bloke that knows fck all about fck all but thinks the Arse are wonderful.

California Drought

I'm surprised there isn't already a thread on this but California is experiencing their most severe drought in over 1,000 years. But, not only is it a dangerous situation to people in California (and the rest of the US if food supply is affected) but it is also causing a sort of class warfare in California. The hard data on Cali’s biggest water hogs may not be publicly available, but we all have eyes and a smartphone. So, as another season of “exceptional drought” descends on the West, people sick of witnessing egregious water waste in their backyard are taking to social media to vent. #droughtshaming is blowing up. And it’s shoving another of California’s problems—vast income inequality—into an uncomfortable spotlight.

Quote:

RANCHO SANTA FE, CALIF. — Drought or no drought, Steve Yuhas resents the idea that it is somehow shameful to be a water hog. If you can pay for it, he argues, you should get your water.

People “should not be forced to live on property with brown lawns, golf on brown courses or apologize for wanting their gardens to be beautiful,” Yuhas fumed recently on social media. “We pay significant property taxes based on where we live,” he added in an interview. “And, no, we’re not all equal when it comes to water.”

Yuhas lives in the ultra-wealthy enclave of Rancho Santa Fe, a bucolic Southern California hamlet of ranches, gated communities and country clubs that guzzles five times more water per capita than the statewide average. In April, after Gov. Jerry Brown (D) called for a 25 percent reduction in water use, consumption in Rancho Santa Fe went up by 9 percent.

Players holidays

Players including the Palace boys, used to be on the beach soon after the end of season, have at least a month off, then come back about 4/6 weeks before the start, light training, pre season games then the season starts again.

Seems that now, many clubs go straight into Far East,American tours, international games,( some of our boys included) Mini club competions etc etc.

When do our boys actually get on the beach and for how long ?

Ex players coming back as fans.

After watching the Matt Laurence interview after after Jules' testimonial saying he still comes back with his mates and watches from the stands it got me wondering. Which ex Palace players come back after leaving/retiring as fans or to watch the matches?

Obviously Brighty does but then he works for the club although I think he would do anyhow as he comes across as a fan. Who else have you seen in the stands? Ian Wright I know has been back in the boxes before.

Palace for the cup?

It seems we have managed to develop a fairly decent squad and with the 3-4 additions Pardew is aiming at there will be lots of competition for all spots.

To compete in the PL and mount serious runs in both major cups, it requires often two first team to be extracted from the squad.

With two credible keepers, a stacked midfield, variety of winger options and most likely next season Chamakh, Gayle, Murrey and certainly 1 more striker all vying for 1/2 spots it seems that we can mount a challenge in these competitions without risking fatigue or injury taking effect on the priority of PL survival.

I also feel that giving players clear aims & goals at the start of the season further increases the chances of success.

So why not build a team to win a cup (something based on our performances (City, Liverpool etc) last year, we are easily capable of winning) and a team to survive (with a little variation & chop and change during the process a natural phenomenon)

......oh and to all those thinking we intend to sell anyone - no chance, no need of the money and the squad whilst certainly getting there is not yet strong enough to shed any weight.

Rumour: Steve Mandanda

Sean's Show - Crystal Palace in the European Cup final episode

This is one of those things that I vaguely remembered from 20 + years ago so I was often not sure if it actually happened or I just imagined it.

I went looking for it about 5 years ago but I could only find Season 1 of the series, but I had a quick look there and came up trumps.

12 year old me thought that Sean Hughes was the funniest thing going, but it's hard to argue it hasn't dated a little.
Anyway though, it might be closest thing you get to seeing Palace play Real Madrid in a European Cup final and it's worth it at least to see Chris Armstrong and a few others very briefly take up acting.

The Master Phone Socket

OK folks, my sleepy village is now getting fibre and my new BT Home Hub 5 arrives next week. Back in Purley when we got fibre there was a separate hub and modem and they had to be adjacent to the main entry socket for the phone which was a pain as it was nowhere near the computers, but in the end wi fi was fast enough for our needs and the socket was in a cupboard hidden away with the home patch panel.

The HH5 doesn't need the modern but still infers it will only work off the main socket, not any other socket around the house. Is this correct or do you just get slower speed on the slave sockets? Our master is in the hall with no power point nearby and I could run an extension cable about 5 metres to get the hub where I need it but it may not look great in the short term until I can tack it around properly.

Any comments? Cheers all

Crystal Palace 1991-92 memories

The 1991-92 season is a blind spot in my Palace memory. My first memories of Palace were the 92-93 season and I subsequently watched that season review video many times (not understanding how we got relegated). And my dad's extensive programme and VHS collection gives me a pretty complete picture between the Swindon play off semis in 1989 and the 3-0 win at home to Man Utd to sign off the 1990-91 3rd place campaign.

But probably because 1991-92 was a bit of a 'meh' season (relatively), I didn't know much about it until I came across this season review video on YouTube (presented by John Salako!!):

To view the link you have to Register or Login

What struck me watching that was how quickly the 1991 team broke down:
  • Wright was sold in September
  • Salako was injured, out for the season, shortly after
  • Andy Gray was transfer listed and eventually sent out on loan to Spurs (I never knew this, and his Wikipedia entry mentions nothing about a loan to Spurs, only a permanent transfer at the end of the season; but Steve Coppell definitely says that he was sent out on loan, in the video)

There seemed to be a lot of other injuries at points during that season, meaning we were regularly fielding teams with Southgate at right back, Lee Sinnott, Paul Mortimer, Simons Roger and Osborn and David Whyte or Stan Collymore.

With all that going on - and considering how much we've lauded our current 10th place finish - it feels like that team actually over achieved that year, despite finishing third the year before. We never dropped below twelfth from September and up until the last few games, we were seventh:

Would love to hear memories from that season.

DIY - Paint Sprayer

So having sorted most of the bungalow the kitchen is the last of the DIY projects. The built in cupboards are in good nick made of wood but the old oak colour is not what the wife wants. So I am thinking of painting them. Trouble is I need it to look good quality and painiting is not my best skill. So I am thinking of paint spraying them tried locally and there asking £750 which is 16 doors, kick boards etc and there would still be some exposed surfaces that would need to be hand painted.
So the question is anyone brought a paint sprayer if so would you recommend it, how easy to use etc. Looking at the reviews many talk about garden fences not inside the house. Also some very mixed reviews on ease of use. She is looking at using Dulux Eggshell Paint for Wood.

Help the dying Mum of a Palace fan

I hope no-one minds me posting this, but my cousin Tina was recently diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. She only has a few months left. Her son, Neil, is a big Palace fan.

One of Tina's dying wishes is to marry her partner Spencer (who I'm sure some of you on here will recognise) and their family and friends are trying to raise enough money to make this happen next month. We are doing various fund-raising activities but the target is quite big and we have very little time to reach it.

It would be great if the Palace family could donate and help make Tina's day as special as she (and her family) deserves. A link to the fund-raising website is below if anyone is able to help.

Thanks in advance.
