Crystal Palace are battling with West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland to sign Queens Park Rangers winger Matt Phillips. Phillips was a rare shining light for QPR last season during the club’s relegation from the Premier League and the 24-year-old is poised to leave Loftus Road. Palace, West Brom and Sunderland have all opened talks over a deal to sign Phillips, although it is understood that no club has agreed a deal with QPR at this stage. QPR are likely to demand around £8 million for Phillips, who cost the club £5m when he joined from Blackpool two years ago. Phillips scored a stunning 40-yard goal in QPR’s defeat at Palace in March that manager Alan Pardew claimed was better than David Beckham’s famous long-range effort. |
