Jedinak and his elbow

This is being discussed on several different threads so I thought I would create it's own.

Taking out of the equation he is one of our players do we think he should have seen a card today. Or was it an accident?

Do we think the FA will take retrospective action. It sounds like the ref didn't see it so they are in a position to punish if they want to.

The Away Fans Tumbleweed Thread

Thought this might help some our regular *friends* pass some time during these difficult times. Don't worry, no need to thank me.

Some unhappy Hammers fans here

does super al love the palace?

He plays down the club link in interviews a lot and loves to bring up Newcastle at any opportunity... is this just a job to him or is there more in it?

Hearts 10 (ten) - Cowdenbeath 0 (nil)

Yep...and ex Palace player Gus Sow got 2 of them

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.

Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.

Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

Looking for A Johny Ertl Interview

Doing a piece of sports psychology coursework looking into collective efficacy , and I remember a great Interview with Johnny Ertl, but can't seem to find it.

Something on the lines of 'I looked into Paddy McCarthy's eyes and knew we had to give our all for our club'

Salisbury FC - please help save this club.

Some of you may be aware of the bizarre and ghastly circumstances in which Salisbury City FC finally folded last summer as a result of disastrous financial mis-management followed by the somewhat surreal and fatal interference of a cretinous Walter Mitty character who really ought to be in an institution (name of A. S. Otail M. Touzar, whose CV says that he once nearly bought Crystal Palace. He didn't even hand over the pound for which he "bought" Salisbury City; all he did was break into the clubhouse and remove a safe containing over £3000 of supporters' money deposited for season tickets).

A consortium of local businessmen (there are many similarities to Palace's recent history) has established a phoenix club, Salisbury FC, with the aim of rejoining the non-league pyramid next season. But just as everything was beginning to take shape a potentially fatal blow has been dealt by the trustees who represent the family of the late Raymond McEnhill, former club chairman who built the RayMac Stadium in 1997, and which has been leased to SCFC since then.

With the original tenants now gone, the trustees have said that they will act in the "best interests" of the family concerning the future of the land on which the stadium stands. These "best interests" may or may not be influenced by the fact that the ground is surrounded by new housing developments (more of which are needed, apparently) or the fact that Sainsbury and other supermarket giants are sniffing around Salisbury to build a "superstore".My understanding is that the family themselves have no influence on the outcome, but the trustees have reneged on an earlier promise to allow a new Salisbury football club to play there, brushing aside the consortium saying that there is no point in talking.

I've supported Palace since the early 70s but having lived in Salisbury for 8 years have enjoyed watching local non-league football with my daughter. The current hiatus has meant we have seen more of Palace, home and away, this season, but when we hear the fans singing the "You are my sunshine" song we exchange knowing glances at the line "you'll never know just how much I love you until they take my Palace away". Palace have been close to this more than once, and I can tell you, you really do not know what it is like until you see the team you follow dismantled bit by bit and then kicked at every attempt at recovery. A petition has been raised to urge Wiltshire Council to do what it can to preserve the RayMac stadium for football, and to urge the Trustees to think again. Without a ground of its own the new club will have little chance of playing again. If you love football, please help by signing the petition below.

Thank you.

Sky bastards

I felt we need a thread for reasons why Sky are scumbags, please feel free to add your own about anything in the Murdoch empire.

I recently made the biggest IT gaff I have ever made. In an effort to save my dad some money because he was paying for another ISP I suggested he use Sky because he already subscribes to Sky TV. Then when switching smtp settings for outgoing mail I find this. Sky in bed with Yahoo, the biggest email scumbags on the planet today, and their first move is to block your existing account and force you to use Yahoo. Utter utter bastards, please share and shame them (as if......)

Laptop Help

My laptop is not well. The hard drive is knackered. I've backed up all the recovery files for vista to an external hard drive. Is it as simple as swapping out the old drive for new and plugging in my external drive to do the recovery stuff?

Player Of The Season Thus Far

Saw FYP do an article about this t'other day. They'd narrowed it down to 5 candidates which I think were the correct 5. Just thought I'd see what everyone else thought - & if they think anyone else deserves to be included. Think a certain little Scottish midfielder will be the runaway winner but here we go...

- Jedinak

- Bolasie

- Dann

- McArthur

- Ledley

Jedi article in today's Times

RoboCop happy to play enforcer if it helps keep Crystal Palace secure

Mile Jedinak always ends up as the captain. “Most of the time as a kid growing up I was captain,” he says.

The armband also kept on growing in significance. He wore it at Wembley when Crystal Palace won the Championship play-off final in 2013 to reach the Barclays Premier League for the first time in eight years. He led Palace to their great escape last season. He captained Australia in the World Cup finals last summer and captained his country to victory in the Asian Cup four weeks ago.

Does he sweet-talk his managers, beg them for the honour or drop hints?

“I never asked anybody to be captain of any football team I’ve played in,” he says in his usual emphatic, intense manner. “So given that perhaps people see the leadership qualities, you’ve got the respect of your team through your actions, through your mannerisms.”

You would be hard-pressed to find anyone in football who takes the role more seriously. This is a man who watches his team-mates closely, not just on the pitch but on the training ground. This is a captain who tries to zone in on potential weakness before it has a chance to spoil the game. Jedinak is concerned, in particular, by lapses in concentration — so how does he spot them? “Maybe not in their eyes but it’s really the behaviour throughout the course of the week,” the 30-year-old says. “I have to make sure everyone’s focused. We can’t afford to go into any game with someone not at it.”

His team-mates are in the dining room next door and laughing loudly and I wonder what he does when he spies someone who is “not at it”.

“It’s a quiet word before the game, giving people instructions,” he says. “It’s positive reinforcement. You get accustomed to what players like to do and not like to do.”

Quite possibly, sometimes all he has to do is to make eye contact. Jedinak has the unnerving habit of looking me in the eye only when unimpressed with a question. When he is being expansive he looks into the distance.

All of which might build a portrait of the player as some sort of football RoboCop, but he does have a softer side. Strangely, no one, until now, had told him that while he was celebrating the defeat of South Korea in Sydney, the Palace fans had cheered his achievement before their side faced Everton. He was on the other side of the world and his team needed him — Palace lost — but still they applauded.

“It’s the first time I’m hearing it,” Jedinak, who hopes to be fit to face West Ham United tomorrow, says. “That’s special. I must mean something to them and this place means an awful lot to me. The feeling is definitely reciprocated.”

Despite the fervour of the support, Palace’s home form is poor. Jedinak says that results would have been better, though, had it not been for a lack of concentration at “key moments.”

That was also the problem in Brazil last summer. Australia were widely billed as the nation that would be most outclassed, but they went close to defeating Holland and were hugely entertaining, despite finishing bottom of their group.

“It matters that, for all the hard work we did, we didn’t get anything from it,” Jedinak says. “We performed admirably and we captured the imagination of a lot of people, but we didn’t get any points.”

Jedinak is the seventh Croat Australian to captain the “Socceroos”. His parents moved to Sydney when they were very young and he grew up fervently supporting Sydney Croatia, which became Sydney United.

“The Croatian community had built the club up from nothing,” he says. “I strived my whole junior career to play for them.”

Clubs in Australia tended to be defined by different immigrant communities. “Yes,” he says when asked if the preponderance of Croats in particular in the national side meant that football was treated as a niche sport. “It has been seen as separate, but when it came to playing for your country I don’t think it ever mattered. The players were the best at that time. Multiculturalism is what Australia is about.”

Jedinak left Sydney United aged 17 for his first professional contract with NK Varteks in Croatia. He foundered in the reserves but the hardship made him the player he is today, he argues. He was far more successful in Turkey with Gençlerbirligi.

“Once they saw I was there for the fight and rolled my sleeves up they respected me,” he says, and it is this obvious intensity that explains why he has become a Captain Fantastic in south London.

Cheltenham Festival Betting Competition

A simple I'm In will suffice for now, while we work on the rules, but here is the basic rule for me.

You can place a bet any time starting this Monday, but only with a bookmaker offering Non Runner No Bet on the particular race. This keeps things equal with the amount of bets.

£300 to bet (again) - 35 bets. 5 x £20, 10 x £10, 20 x £5

You have to place a bet on every single race (27 of them... Not the St Patricks Derby), as well as Top Owner, Top Trainer and Top Jockey. This leaves 5 bets to be placed on anything you like. Extra horses for specific races and things like that.

You can take advantage of special bets and prices, but declare the bookmaker.

However, specials such as William Hill's Money Back as a free bet if your horse doesn't win the Supreme Novices are not allowed, neither is Paddy Power's offers to return the stake should Douvan or Un Des Sceaux win their races.

Any issues with bets will be discussed amongst the competition and then decided on as a group, just to keep it simpler!

Please declare all each way terms when the bets are placed to make it easier, and it helps my spreadsheet!

Post 2 will have all the races, please copy and paste them to your post when placing a bet, and keep track of how many bets are used to give an easy comparison to the spreadsheet

Hi all, just wondering if there is any Palace fans in the north west who do travel to games and looking for some others to start going with them?

Stage lighting

I'm looking for some basic lighting for gigs for my band, coloured, something that will alternate and flood light a bit, wash colour on the stage. I say stage, I mean pub and small venue such as village hall stage. I need some BBS advice because I'm new to this, I've been looking at some of the LED light bars but I don't really know what to go for bang for buck.

Liverpool Wage Bill 1960

Love stuff like this, no spoilt brat millionaires here!

A thought occurs though, if the maximum wage (excluding bonuses) was £20 a week before it was abolished in 1961, how come a number of these players are on more? Or was the maximum wage net of income tax?

Shagging on Charlton's pitch

On the BBC's Sportsday rolling stream:

Charlton are investigating footage that appears to show a couple having sex on the club's pitch.

The video shows footage of a man and a woman on the centre spot of a football pitch.

The description on the video claims the incident took place at The Valley, with the pair having broken into the ground at night.

A Charlton spokesperson told Press Association Sport the club knew nothing of the incident, adding: "There will be a club investigation."

Racism definition in law

I had to give a statement to the police this afternoon over someone using inappropriate language towards Muslims (to a non muslim).

The guy himself did not see that he had said anything wrong (he had) and the complainant had reported it as Racism.

I pointed out to the guy a few days after the incident that what he had said 'was inappropriate and illegal but not strictly racism' which he just could not get his head around, and did not deny using the words he was accused of using.

When the police came to take my statement I told them I had said to the bloke that it was illegal and then afterwards questioned whether I was right as IMO he was not enticing hatred.

So asked the police on what law he could be charged under, and they said that they have 3 avenues and one being (if I remember correctly) racially aggravated harassment, enticing hatred (which they also agreed was not the case here) and another subtle version of the first (which I do not remember).

I said to them, so in law Racism has a different definition as to the common definition, which they said it did.

Is this actually the case or re both The police and myself confusing Racist crime with religious crime?

Any Legal gurus want to give some clarity?

Travel Problems to West Ham Saturday

Just in case you are unaware there are problems for rail and underground travel to Upton Park this Saturday.

Normal service to Victoria.

Circle and District Lines will not be running between Gloucester Road and Embankment. Alternative option is to take Victoria line to Oxford Circus, change onto Central Line to Mile End and then change onto District or Hammersmith and City Lines to Upton Park.

Another alternative is to change at Clapham Junction for a train to Waterloo, then take the Jubilee Line to West Ham and then change onto District or Hammersmith and City Lines to Upton Park.

limited Southern services into London Bridge as there are engineering works between Crystal Palace/ Norwood Junction / West Croydon and New Cross Gate with a bus replacement service for all intermediate stations. No Overground service from West Croydon and with some trains from Beckenham Junction also diverted to Victoria.

Thameslink trains to Bedford will travel direct from East Croydon to Blackfriars. You can then take a District Line train direct to Upton Park.

Suggestion: Pione Sisto

19 year old attacker playing for FC Midtjylland in the Danish league. People here have compared him loosely with Christian Eriksen. Help! Child's home shirt needed

Okay BBS, I need your help.

My daughter, who's about to turn 4, made me a very proud man when she told me she wanted a Crystal Palace shirt for her birthday. However, having checked online there are no home shirts in the 3-4 or 5-6 age range. I called the club shop direct and the guy didn't seem very sure himself but said there aren't any left in the size I want.

Does anyone know of a way to get hold of one, or alternatively does anyone have a good quality second-hand home shirt suitable for a 4/5 year old that they might want to sell?

Inconsistent Stewarding

I attended my first Home game in a very long time due to living in the deepest darkest East Midlands and was sat in the Arthur Wait near the away fans, incidentally on the same row as film director Paul Greengrass (he of The Bourne Trilogy fame).

Now I completely understand the difficulty in telling a couple of thousand away fans to sit down etc and recent issues with coin throwers, however I can’t understand why I then get told to pretty much sit down and be quiet at venting my anger at some shocking refereeing decisions, while a small group of away fans can stand there giving it large and insulting home fans many of which were kids with not even a quiet word?

Is there a different rule for us as home fans? Is it just the norm in our new found Premiership environment or haven’t stewards got the authority or even bottle to deal with away fans, even when they are a in a small minority?

Yours, disgruntled of Derby.....

Palace were not refined enough in the final third

Spot on....we need craft and guile in the final third...hopefully that can come next season....until then its blood and thunder:D

2) Palace lacked a cutting edge

Alan Pardew said that Crystal Palace’s performance in their 2-1 defeat to Arsenal was the best that they have produced since he took over last month and the numbers certainly helped his argument. Palace had more shots, more possession and more corners, while they also felt that Arsenal’s first goal should have been a free-kick instead of a penalty and that their second goal should have been disallowed for offside. Yet Palace were not refined enough in the final third. They failed to test David Ospina in the first half and although there were some near misses in the second half, the Arsenal goalkeeper did not make a meaningful save until he kept out a Glenn Murray header near the end. Palace’s forceful style would have paid off if Murray’s stoppage-time header had flown an inch or two to the left, instead of crashing against the post, but the truth is that they need more subtlety. Alternatives to Sky

Having moved in with my mate following a period of upheaval for the both of us, we're looking at ways of cutting a few costs. One of them is almost certainly going to be having to get rid of Sky.

What's a good alternative? He doesn't have Movies. Need/want the Sports channels. Some of the channels that the American dramas get shown on would be good, but again not essential. HD content obviously. Oh and being able to record too.

As an aside, isn't it funny how you get used to things like Sky? I love the Sky+ app, and being able to remote record with it. Sky Go is great for the iPad. Just one of those luxuries you get used to I guess.

KG

Anyone know what has happened to KG.

Only played a couple of times this season and i can't find anything on him later than Oct last year.

What footballers say

I sit quite a long way back in the AW. Always have, so I never here anything from the pitch other than the thud of the ball from a pinpoint fifty yarder from Damo's boot or the whistle signalling yet another free kick against us.

But I'm interested in what players say when they're on the pitch. Is just the standard 'man on' and 'line'? Are there more of your Sunday league shouts 'all day lads', 'still nil-nil' and ''put a name on it'?

Is there friendly chatting? What have you heard players, refs or managers say on the pitch in a professional game?

Video Technology MUST be introduced in football

As the title says video technology must be introduced in football.

Week in week out the standard of refereeing in this country is exposed as totally and utterly inept.

In 2015 it is embarrassing that football continues to stay in the dark ages and fail to embrace technology when pretty much every other sport has.

With all the money at stake in the game we can't continue having games decided by refereeing inadequacy. Within seconds everyone watching at home can see that a wrong decision is made, so why not sacrifice a little more time to get the right decision?! When it comes to contentious decisions the players normally surround the referee and have a long debate anyway, so you could argue that using the technology would only add a little added time at most.

The time for having a wally with a whistle and two wallies with a flag making wrong decisions and changing the outcome of games should be over.

Palace Goals This Season

Yesterday's late flurry of activity got me thinking about how many late goals we have scored this season (premier league) and when we are most likely to score.

Having been through the games it breaks down like this..

1st Half Goals - (9)

0-15 - 2

15-30 - 5

30-45 - 2

2nd Half Goals - (19)

45-60 - 8

60-75 - 3

75-90 - 8

Adding all the minutes together and dividing by the 28 goals we score then on average we should score in the 54th minute.

everton v Leicester

First up. Who turned the sound down. Its like a morgue.

second I think a draw or Eveton win suits us. We have 10 points on Leicester. I think it useful if we eliminate bottom place as a possibility.I still cannot imagine Everton dropping

Ticket pricing suggestions

So much talk about this at the moment (and kudos to the HF for their sterling efforts), I thought it might be interesting to get some opinions and ideas on what stipulates fair pricing. Perhaps if SB and/or SP read this they might take some of the suggestions away with them.

Obviously utopia would be a maximum of £20 on all tickets, but you have to balance out the concepts of fair pricing and realism, whilst also rewarding loyalty and, to an extent, 'penalising' the glory hunters who are only interested when the big boys are in town.

I think most would agree that season tickets are pretty reasonable (they could perhaps come down a bit in an ideal world, or perhaps they should include up to three cup matches, or incentives for away matches), but perhaps we should stick to individual match tickets for now.

Firstly I think a £20 blanket price for away fans would be a start, but that needs reciprocation across the league.

I think there should be a more German model where there is a far greater range of pricing options - perhaps under 8s, 9-14, 15-18, 19-21, students (all ages), unwaged and adults. Give everyone a chance to attend.

I'd stick with the membership model, but scrap having to couple a B match with an A. Instead, as mentioned on another thread, make the pricing more reflective of the opponents and those likely to come - make a few games a season (WBA, Burnley, Stoke etc) say £20, and all cup games up to quarter finals a maximum of £15, but by all means charge £40, maybe even £45 for Arsenal, Chelsea etc.

It's not an exact science, but that way you reward the people who truly want to see Palace, and exploit the day-trippers and glory hunters. You will always get tourists in the Premier League - they have large disposal incomes, and being here for only one match, will likely pay almost any price.

Also, there should be a bigger sliding scale in terms of the areas of the ground. Something like this, going from cheapest to most expensive: Whitehorse, corner blocks of the AW, Holmesdale Lower, Corner blocks of the Main Stand, middle of the AW, Holmesdale Upper, middle of the Main Stand, Gallery, Stephensons, Director's Box.

It's a way of offering affordable football whilst taking the corporate dollar and maintaing revenue streams. It may be harsh on people who have sat in a certain area for a long time, but if you want the best seats in the house, surely only right you pay for it (perhaps, in terms of season tickets, prices could reflect season ticket history? Thus long-standing people in the Director's box don't pay as much as newbies?).

It may look complicated, but I don't think it needs to be or would be. There needs to be more creativity in pricing.

Have you got any ideas? It would be cool if Palace could lead the way in new pricing models.

Possession/Shots/Shots on Target

Against Arsenal this season in the Premier League we put in, in my opinion one of our best performances and I have compiled some stats to back up how good it was:

In terms of Possession this is only the 6th time in 26 games Arsenal have had less than the opposition and in terms of shots for and against it is only the 4th time that Arsenal have not had as many as their opponent on the day. In games where they have more shots on target than their opponents it is normally by 3.5-4 more but today they only had 1 more than us.

The key for me is, compared to the opening game of the season which was Arsenal away we had 29% more possession and 18 more shots against them.

Full stats attached for those sad enough :hi:

High ticket prices -rewards loyal fans

Although it is shame some fans are priced out of football nowadays. The fact is the premiership is a quality product that people want to see.

If Palace reduced all seats to between £25-£40 , then you wouldn't get more Palace fans attended ,you would get more rich football fans buying a season for Palace games and cherry picking the games against big teams and just not turning up for the other games .

Next year a season ticket in the Arthur wait is £500 an absolute bargain and I have already got mine and my sons (£250).

Movement and urgency from throw ins

Puncheon In the holding role

I thought he was a revelation in that position today, weve been crying out for a playmaker for a couple of years now, someone to set up our play, he can also put a foot in as well when needed.

Id like to see him there every home game atleast, if we play with that intensity every home game we'll be fine.

Hennessey

Time to see what we have in Hennessey as a Keeper, see if he has enough to play in the PL and whether we need to buy one this summer or not.

Speroni isn't good enough anymore, and his reflex "saves" seem to cause more goals than they save.

Palace U18s 0-1 Brentford U18s

Palace U18s hosted league leaders Brentford this morning in a Category 2 South U18 league fixture at the Palace training ground as they chased a top 2 finish in order to get into the end of season play offs with the top 2 in the North section to establish the overall champion side.

The Palace line-up was:

GK Brad Comins

RB Ryan King-Elliott

LB Jason Akiotu (Olly O’Dwyer)

CB Ben Wynter

CB Jahmal Howlett-Mundle

LM Aaron Bissaka

CM Will Hoare

CM Spencer Forte (Olly Bennett)

AM Michael Phillips

RM Elliot List (Andre Coker)

CF Corrie Andrews

2 mins – Hoare clips thru ball over the defence but Brentford keeper Tzanev rushes off line and heads clear just before Andrews arrives

9 mins – Forte conceded FK on edge of own box –shot is deflected and loops into arms of Comins

21 mins – GOAL – nice approach plays by Brentford ends with their number 11 lobbing the ball over Comins from 14 yards out

25 mins – Hoare swings over a FK from wide left, keeper Tzanev drops it badly and LB just beats Andrews to ball and clears

29 mins – good approach play again by Brentford looks to have out Jatta in on goal but his shot is blocked by a last gasp tackle

33 mins – Andrews and List link up well wide right and clever back heel leads to a foul and FK from which an Andrews header is saved at full length by Tzanev

36 mins – driving run by Brentford CM James Ferry is only stopped in area by good Howlett-Mundel tackle

41 mins – good run forward by Akiotu and does stepover to beat full back and cross almost leads to a tap in for Andrews

42 mins – Brentford break and are in on goal in inside right channel and Comins produces a great tip over save from strong shot

47 mins – chance for Brentford as Zain Westbrooke has shooting chance from which he lobs Comins but ball goes over bar

52 mins – nice one two on edge of Palace pen area puts Brentford CF Bradley Clayton in on goal but Comins rushes out and saves with his feet

55 mins – Jatta gets on end of right wing Brentford cross and crashes effort against crossbar from 6 yards out

57 mins – clever play by JBA sets Andrews away but his shot from inside left channel is saved by Tzanev at his near post with his feet

62 mins – Akiotu burst forward but sees long range shot fly wide of far post

75 mins – good full length Comins save low to his left from long range effort by Westbrooke

80 mins – surging run & cross by King-Elliott almost creates good shooting chance for Bennett

82 mins – Brentford mess up 3 on 1 breakaway and ends with shot wide

85 mins – Comins saves point blank from Ferry with his feet

A tough game for Palace against a big, strong physical Brentford side who were not adverse to using a tactical foul to stop game whenever the more fleet of foot Palace side looked like breaking. It was easy to see why Brentford were top of the league as they also played some nice football. The Palace lads did not shy away from the physical challenge but they were outpowered in midfield and in attacking areas.

Whole of Palace back 4 played well. Howlett-Mundle and Wynter excelled themselves. Akiotu was his usual solid self. King-Elliott at RB was my joint Palace MOM. Clever on ball going forward and won almost every tackle in defence and was clever when left outnumbered. Comins in goal was other joint Palace MOM. Heroic effort to keep score to one and made several full length diving saves and stopped 3 close range efforts.

Not a day when Palace offered much threat going forwards.

Happy Birthday RickyB and Oisín

Happy Birthday!

Figo for Presidente

With Becks and Mourinho on the Board.

He looked good at his conference at Wembley today and the idea of distributing the kitty (i.e. using FIFAs war chest to garner favour) is cheeky but good. Good old-fashioned corporate takeover stuff. Not that the various confederations are interested in money of course.

What'll be interesting is if his bid gathers pace. Platini - the heir apparent will be all kinds of pissed off and it will be interesting to see what Blatter will offer up.

So do we think he has a chance or will he be swamped by the establishment?

Crystal Ball: Palace vs Arsenal

Time to rub those crystal balls and predict score, scorers, attendance and how long it takes Wenger to do up his zip.

Chelsea French Tube chants

Given that the match in Paris is probably equivalent in length to away at Man U I did find it somewhat strange the Gendamerie were nowhere in sight?. Would this have happened on the London Tube I ask??

I'd have thought they would be out in Force given other recent events.

Last time I went to the Parc De F it was with England and it kicked off big time, tear gas you name it. Those were the days....

Kiwi looking for support to help realise her dying dad's wish to watch Palace at home

A apologise if I've posted this in the wrong place or if I shouldn't. Please note I'm in no way connected to this other than as another Brit who now lives in NZ. I'm just passing this message on to give it a bit more visibility.

Give a little - kiwi raising funds to help her a terminally ill father realise final wishes is to return to UK and to a final Crystal Palace football game at their home ground.

>My father Paul Morriss is a father of three and a grandfather of 6 and another on the way. He has worked for the Otago Polytechnic, Taieri Print and various other places in Dunedin and has been a long time member of the Taieri Rotary Club. He has always been the hard working man, the teaching man, the family man and the man who would give you the shirt off his back. Hes not a smoker, hes not a heavy drinker, hes always been fit and active but yet now at age 58 he has been dealt the roughest hand and been diagnosed with terminal cancer. His time is quite limited due to the aggressiveness of the various cancers throughout his body. One of my dads final wishes is to return to his birthplace England to go to a Crystal Palace football game at their home ground, spend some time with his son, daughter in-law and their two young boys, his brother and his elderly parents and say his final goodbyes to them all. So if you would like to do something to help him, me, his parents, his brother, his sons and his grandchildren please be so kind as to make a donation to help us raise enough money to grant one of his wishes and let him tick a few things off the bucket list and say his final goodbyes to his loved ones.

>My father has always given a lot and never asked for much so I am asking for your help please by giving a little back to this caring, loving, generous man.

>Thank you all so much,

Font has gone weird on Windows

Don't know what's happened and hoping someone can help me. For some reason some of the fonts on Windows have gone faint and the style appears to have changed. Thought I'd accidentally adjusted the resolution with CTRL+Mouse Scroll but that's not the issue. Run virus scans and spyware scans etc but problem still present.

Anyone??

Is Blur sufficiently significant to merit its own thread? Maybe.

Anyway, they've just announced the impending release of their first album in 12 years.

Travel Information Arsenal (home)

From what I can gather there is a bit of disruption this weekend:LONDON OVERGROUND: Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 February, no service between Highbury & Islington and Shadwell, and between Sydenham and Crystal Palace due to Crossrail works.

Use alternative London Overground trains between Highbury & Islington and Dalston Kingsland (for Dalston Junction) when available on Saturday, replacement buses operate on this section on Sunday, or use local buses on this day. Replacement buses operate Service W: Dalston Kingsland - Dalston Junction - Haggerston - Hoxton - Shoreditch High Street - Whitechapel - Shadwell; Valid tickets are accepted for travel on London Underground services via any reasonable routes (for entrance and exit at Canada Water and Stratford stations only) and also on Southern train services between Crystal Palace and Norwood Junction (on Saturday).

London Bridge

Engineering work at London Bridge means there are a reduced number of platforms available for trains to and from the station.

Trains between London Bridge and Uckfield will run between East Croydon and Uckfield only.

Most trains between London Bridge and Horsham will run between Norwood Junction and Horsham only

In London

It's all about me.

Just a heads up to those that know me, or for some strange reason might want to meet me. I'm in London now. I'm catching three games, starting at Arsenal on Saturday. I'll be hanging around The Cherries beer garden like a bad smell from Midday onwards.

Any more news on next years kits? I know there was a thread but couldn't find it

With the transfer season over we need something to discuss!!

Extreme weather

Early tomorrow morning in South East Queensland (where I live) a category 4 cyclone which has been forming at sea will hit land. They are expecting flash flooding and winds up to 250km/h(155mph ).

People are using sandbags to protect their house, are panic buying everything and being told not to leave their houses. We get loads of massive storms during our summers but people are freaking out about this one. Thankfully for me I live on top of a hill so I'll be spending the day at home watching tele.

It got me thinking what kind of extreme weather I'd been in before and I came up with the following

Heat-45 degrees Celsius with 100% humidity

Hail-size of baseballs

Flash flooding-every summer

What is the most extreme weather you've been in?

Afroman punches female fan

mercredi 18 février 2015

A woman got on stage during Afromans set, danced right up to him and he turns and wallops her one right in the mouth.

Arguments all over the Internet. Was he aware it was a woman?, does he have a right to defend himself on stage if somebody sneaks up uninvited?, should she have snuck on stage and got within his personal space while he was playing?, if this was a female performer belting a male fan who snuck up on stage behind her would this be accepted? Should he get done for assault?

Those are just some of the things I've been reading. The video is pretty damning.

Ps-I have no idea who the **** Afroman is:D

Pps-how did the woman get up from it so quickly? Looked like he connected flush

Child abuse in hampstead?

My wife showed me a thing from facebook last night, its a film if two children telling of how they have been abused by their Dad, teachers at school and other parents. They also say that these people sacrifice babies, which they have to help to do. I found it all really hard to believe, especially the babies part, it sounded like children making up silly stories to me. Has anyone else seen or heard of this.

Nigel Pearson's Pupils...

mardi 17 février 2015

I'm a little bit out of date with this post as I have been travelling a lot the last week or so.

I was catching up with last week's MOTD and noticed during the interview with NP that he had one dilated, and one undilated pupil.

Anyone else notice it? A little bit odd... especially considering he has been acting very strange of late!

Anti Social Neighbours

I ask for the knowledge of the BBS. I know of a couple that have lived in a street, not in London, that have applied for a thing called a Community Trigger. It is effectivly part of a government anti social behaviour law that was made law in July 2014.

It allows anyone to raise a community trigger that has to be investigated by both their local council and police.

I am not talking about just general noise, we are talking about a family of 5 that havent worked since 2008 and rent from a private landlord who gets rental payment from the DHSS. The house they live in is basically a tip but the landlord is not going to do anything because they pay him rent and it would probably cost him more to up the property if he had to rent it again.

The anti social behaviour basically goes on all day, an Alsatian dog that is left in the garden all day barking 24/7, the kids are 18, 17 & 14 and roar up and down the road on their mopeds with no crashhelmets on and intimidating other drivers. There are on a number of occasions fights in the streets where other yobs from near by areas have come looking for fights in the early hours that have had the police turn up and make arrests. I believe there were 46 cases of anti social behaviour in the last year reported.

They are basically a scumbag family that have no interest in working or providing anything to society.

The dilemma is the community trigger has now got to the stage where it has gone to court, driven by a lot of neighbours but only the couple who raised it are willing to go to court and be seen in the witness box, as the others who backed it are scared of retribution. Now the couple who raised it are in two minds whether to push ahead with it. Personally I would carry on.

They have been told that the evidence provided is so bad that it is almost certain that the scum bags will be evicted. But what would you do in their situation press on and hope that there is no come back?

It's difficult to put into words but they have lived a nightmare for 6 years.

Chelsea fans: We're racist and that's the way we like it

Thought the whole stopping a black person getting on train was likely blown out of proportion and they would just be stopping any old bloke... But then that song! Disgusting. Easily identifiable and banned I hope.

Croydon Advertiser want the HF to give up their banners for lent.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

One of seven things in an article by the Croydon Advertiser that they think Croydon should give up for lent.

I think the article is trying to be light-hearted and is written in a way that is attempting humour (but failing).

Holmesdale Fanatics' banners

The HF's support of Crystal Palace has won widespread acclaim across the football world - a throwback to the days when supporters actually used to sing at games, rather than take selfies and eat Haribo Starmix. But perhaps we could give the banners a rest for a month lads, especially those carrying that self-righteous 'we hate modern football' nonsense.

U21s v Ipswich 2pm today

Not seen it mentioned elsewhere on here. U21s play Ipswich today at Tooting & Mitcham. 2pm ko. Fiver to get in.

Just heading off there myself.

Playstation 4 one year on

Recently updated from PS3 to PS4, wondering what people thought about it one year on. Visuals are obviously better, but can't say I've been blown away by anything. Am on Dragon Age Origins, which looked pretty but has become a tad repetitive and I'm a great fan of RPG's.

Sold Fifa 15 pretty quickly as it didn't do anything for me, The Evil Within was overly hard and the visuals not brilliant, Driveclub visually brilliant but gameplay and AI a little meh.

Apparently one of the games I was looking forward to The Order 1886 has five hours of single player gameplay and that's it for £50. And there's nothing that stands out too much for me, wondering if this is because developers are lazy and a lot are just ports upscaled, or if they are struggling to get to grips with it's hardware. Am hoping 2015 proves me wrong and looking forward to The Witcher and FF (if that one appears).

CouponDropDown Malware

Had to reinstall Adobe Reader last night from what looked like the official site but now have some Malware of the above name which is putting unwanted ads over anything I look at. Not showing in the 'unistall' programmes and I have disabled 'SecureWebBHO Class Publisher (Not verified) Jelbrus' in manage options on internet tools. Ran a full Microsoft Essentials which did not pick it up overnight. I don't trust some of the google suggestions of downloading software so was hoping someone might know of a safe way of getting rid of this little bugger such as a safe malware product?

1 question. Bring back goal music straight yes or no answer? It's been debated for too long and we all know the great cpfc 2010 owners will come across this and make a reasoned decision either way.

Does Pardew tinker with the team too much?

I know he's had his hand forced through injuries, but it does appear to me that he's not afraid to make a number of changes in personnel and tactics each match.

With a squad of 25 first class players, is there a danger of too much tinkering to keep everyone happy?!

Last season under Pulis, what made us so resilient was the togetherness that comes with the same 11 playing week in, week out.
