This is a call to any BBSers who might be able help me with something. I am in my final year of a MSc and my dissertation is on a subject that I've been working on to various extents over the last few years - patient education in diabetes.
I know that formalised programmes run either privately or through the NHS (programmes like DESMOND, DAFNE, XPERT etc) but what I cannot gauge is whether or not there is a focus on foot health to any great extent? My profession is Podiatry and despite there being tonnes of research into the effects of diabetes on the feet and the sheer financial and health-related costs of that it still seems to receive way below the level of education that it should. This is true of physicians as well as patients in my experience.
So if any of you out there have experienced any formal diabetes education for patients / practitioners, could you just let me know whether or not foot care was covered to any great extent? This is just to give me a general impression rather than anything too specific.
Much thanks in advance!
