Stand up if you love Palace

samedi 25 octobre 2014

Well I don't know about you, but since the summer, I think most of us have been reeling. I'm not sure any of us have had time to take stock. When we went up on that magical day in May 2013, we were prepared for it (as fans). We knew it might happen and we knew how incredible it might be, considering our previous few years of struggle.

Like me, do you feel that this season so far has seemed a little like treading water? A little like we're actually unsure about where we are now? Regardless of the previous manager leaving in such a shocking way, it's just not quite taken off - like any season in the top flight should do for Palace. Come on, forget your stance on 'modern football and the perks of playing Barnsley on a foggy Tuesday night (I'm not really sure of these by the way) - playing in the top flight is something to be cherished - and as a Palace fan of 15 years, I will never take it for granted. We worked so so hard to get here. Who went crazy when KG smashed in that goal at Peterborough? Remember that KP hat trick against Hull at home? We deserve this.

Think back to Sean Scannell pulling the ball back to Ambrose, the feeling of the goal going in, the unity of the red and blue, living to fight another day

A week on Monday we have one of those sacred night games against a side in and amongst it. Being taken over by a yank or not, we MUST retain our identity as aspirational, passionate and proud supporters of the players wearing OUR red and blue shirts. I'm picking up a little sense of confusion in the ranks, we're not sure about our owners, who I think have delivered an unprecedented and incredible 4 years of progress - it's an exceptional turn around lets be honest.

We cannot let this era go south now. Us fans are still as entitled to support our club as passionately as ever. I for one will not turn my back if the owners change, I will also not let this season pass us by. This season is huge for Palace, I don't want foggy nights at Barnsley - I want to show the world why South London is red and blue. We should all be mighty proud that we've come from that day in Sheffield in 2010, to where we are now - it's some achievement - but why slow down? Why give in now and cite 'modern football' as the excuse for not caring?

I hope against Sunderland, we can pull together and deliver one of those magical nights that can kick start the momentum we need to make this season mean something on the pitch.
