Derek Chauvin trial

mercredi 31 mars 2021

They say Justice has to be done, and that Justice has to be seen to be done. However, this trial scares me. I worry that whatever the result it will prove both divisive and provoke a backlash from one side or the other.

Watching the footage it is hard not to feel anything other than deep anger with Chauvin, but will he get a fair trial?

Know nothing about him, but if he’s anything like the last winger we bought from Bristol City, then yes! :D

Surgery

Hi everyone. Havent been on here much over the last year or so. Had to go for an EKG for clearance for cataract surgery about a month ago. Cardiologist was concerned about my high cholesterol. Upon further examination and numerous tests i am now undergoing heart bypass surgery tomoro. Id heard of quadrupal byoass but im going with five bypasses. I must be special! So, spare a thought for me and if i owe you money youd better be quick to collect. The idea of having lly sternum sawn lengthwise then a reverse clamp to spread my ribs scares the poopies out of me but i hope to have the dubious pleasure of discourse with you lot later. Www

Suggestion: Silas Wamangituka

Silas Wamangituka 21 year old midfielder/right wing who is quick and scores in the Bundesliga

Valued around £20m seems a bargain

Glad they've replaced the BNP supporting Wayne Brown with a black guy and I hope he saves them from relegation. Loved him as a Palace player. Good luck Hayden.

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after.

Working From Home Tax Question

mardi 30 mars 2021

Hello fellow BBSers

My employer has been paying me £26 a week extra tax free for WFH.

This occurred for 10 months.

I was WFH for the whole tax year, but it appears if I claim for the other 2 months through a self assessment form then I will be given tax relief at either 20% or 40% but don't get the full £26 a month as if my employer gave it to me.

Is this right or am I missing something?

Thanks.

Get well soon John Burridge

Some of you may have heard Budgie has been suffering from Covid 19. The good news came from the man himself on Facebook that he believes he's on the mend and is much boosted by the get well messages hes received. He's a keeper I always enjoyed watching when with us back in the day for his agility betwen the sticks and the mad warm up excercises he had. Guess now you have to be a certain age to remember but he was sometimes worth the admission on his own

Kitting out your home office (and avoiding injury)

I, like many others have been working from home the past year. I am lucky to have a summer house in the garden to work from. I have been getting by with an old second hand desk and chair but recently been experiencing some shoulder pain. Some research into why this might be the case revealed I probably need a chair with better support.

I have therefore decided to invest in some new kit. I am willing to invest a fair few quid seeing as it is something I use for hours per day. However preliminary research has revealed that the best executive chairs cost almost 2 grand.

Does anyone know of any office equipment outlets South East London / kent area? I don't mind if its second hand but would like the ability to test out the kit.

Thanks (bracing myself for a bunch of chair jokes :D)

Financial fall out from COVID.

Cleary Bournemouth had relegation to factor in as well, but the loss is still startling. £60m, hence the sell off of players.

Margate

lundi 29 mars 2021

As the possibility of foreign travel recedes, a group of us need to find somewhere for an over 50s stag weekend. Decent boozers, lots of real ale fans, possibly a bit of live music and decent restaurants - anyone out there got opinions on Margate? Mid-July.

Or other Kent/Sussex/Hampshire suggestions?

Inflation..... Where's it gone? Or is it coming?

Supposedly when the government print money and world governments are doing it at an unprecedented rate around the world. That is supposedly a dead set historical precursor for inflation.

So where is it?

Has it manifested itself solely in the share, crypto and property markets? Are we in for a shock stop of unknown and possibly gargantuan proportions?

Or is this current phase of paradoxical financial markets something to do with crypto beginning to threaten the existence of central banks?

I know labour costs are down, is that something to do with the rise of pending automation?

Makes no sense to my limited understanding of the financial world.

What's your shortest time in a job?

Following on from the career changes thread, it seems many of us have had a multitude of jobs in their lives. So it stands to reason some of these were for a very short time.

Mine was 1 hour doing Tele canvassing for a double glazing company in Maidstone. This includes 30 minutes of training. Horrible job, run by a horrible woman who preceded Brent by many years.

After several calls and people hanging up or telling me to **** off, I got up said I was going to the loo and walked out.

Jim Crow 2.0

Blatant voter suppression by the anti-democratic minority Republican party.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Quote:

What does the new law do?

It adds new ID requirements for requesting mail-in ballots, replacing the current system which simply requires a signature.

Republicans say this will instil greater confidence in election integrity, but Democrats say it will now be harder for working class people - who may not have an ID - to cast a ballot.
It expands early voting access in most counties.

A previous version of the bill that curbed weekend voting prompted an outcry, with Democrats arguing it targeted the Sunday voting drives held by black churches.
It gives the state legislature greater power over the state election board.

Democrats say the move would allow votes in certain counties to be thrown out, which Mr Trump advocated for after his loss.

It bans the practice of giving food or water to voters in line.

The Republican bill labels it a method of soliciting votes, but several media reports suggest that voters, particularly in majority black parts of the state, have often had to wait in line for hours.
It shortens the period for runoff elections.

It will go from nine weeks to four weeks - shortening the time for early and mail in voting.

Democrats say that is in an attempt to suppress votes after an energised voter base in Georgia sent two Democrats to the US Senate this year. Republicans say it will more fairly reflect voters' beliefs at the time of the initial vote.

I guess I don't get the US system, in that I thought that Biden had won the Senate and Congress. So how can Republicans put a bill into law? How did they get it voted through?

Changing your career-what have you done?

I'm sure we all remember pressure at school at 13 to choose your exam subjects based on a career choice, where a lot of us didn't have a clue what we wanted to do!

I was just curious as to know what career changes we made as we progressed through life (after retiring a couple of years back I've recently returned to my original career choice, albeit on an ad hoc basis). I've done a few career talks in schools and have told kids its ok to change course!

Songs that give you speeding tickets

vendredi 26 mars 2021

Private Schools - Everyone’s Invited

The claims of an endemic culture of sexual abuse at private schools is not losing any steam. I can’t quite work out why is is so directed at private schools (other than by dint of the claimants). The schools themselves are clambering over each other to speak out, internal reviews are being taken, Dulwich College has brought in the police etc. It is very “of its time” (but in saying that I am in no way condoning/doubting/denigrating etc).

My kids were at two of the schools named, both schools were at the forefront of pushing equality and were very vocal about that. At my boy’s school, any sign of the behaviour mentioned was stamped upon and hard, examples were made. The school simply could not afford to be seen to be doing anything other than enforcing a hard line. Clearly there have been failures but I am as stunned as regards the seriousness of the allegations as I am sure the schools will be.

I can’t quite work out all the strands and nuances.

Suggestion: Aurélien Tchouaméni - Suggestion

This kid is starting to attract some big admirers. Chelsea being one club that are monitoring him as a potential signing. At only 20 and with a bright future in the game, is this the sort of player that we could attract with the lure of first team football?

Andy Gilbert RIP

Have to pass on the sad news that Andy has passed away.

Andy was a founder member of the Palace Independent Supporters Association (PISA), and was its Chair during the Goldberg era & the administration that followed.

He had followed Palace from an early age and was a season ticket holder for many years, and was an away-day partner for much of the 1990s, where his dry sense of humour leavened the sting of a defeat. Occasionally - usually against Arsenal - he would storm out declaring he'd never come back, but the lure of Selhurst Park found ways to entice him back

As a civil servant starting in the Thatcher years, in the cabinet office & Dept. of National Heritage among other posts, he heatedly insisted to us that government was not like "Yes, Minister" when we teased him on long away trips. He may well have, at our request, added the odd phrase into his ministers' speeches, but as that included David Mellor who cares!

His friends & colleagues send our condolences to Jenny, and will treasure our memories of being with him at Selhurst, Stockport, Villa Park, and many other places Palace took us.

2021/22 Season

To view the link you have to Register or Login

The Premier League has announced that the 2021/22 season will kick-off on the 14th August, 2021, and culminate on the 22nd May, 2022.

With the next season returning to a more conventional timetable after the disruption of the past year, Palace are likely to find out their exact fixture list in June. The Eagles will be keen to discover where their campaign will kick-off, and where their run-in will end.

Palace started the current season at home, beating Southampton via a Wilfried Zaha winner. Their season will conclude at Anfield, taking on Liverpool on Sunday, 23rd May.

As usual, the final round of matches on 22nd May, 2022 will kick-off simultaneously.

Football’s Darkest secret.

Anybody been watching this over the last three days?

Apologies if there’s already a thread on this but I haven’t seen one. Absolutely harrowing viewing. Very brave men to have come forward. It’s made me understand the damage that these poor men have suffered.

It would appear that our National game is or was rife with abuse.

If you haven’t seen it yet it’s a must watch.

Brain Fog

There has been quite a bit written about long covid causing brain fog, but I'm convinced that social media and also the lock down has caused it too.

Loads of people I know can't concentrate anymore on longer articles, documentaries etc their attention span just switches off, with many picking up their phone or just doing something else.

Have others noticed this?

(awaits predictable TL;DR response to this post :D)

Lions tour to SA 2021

So looks like the tour is on. I fear very few Lions fans will make it so even with reduced crowds they will be mostly South African which is harsh but just the way it is.

Anyone want to have a crack at picking the squad or even the starting 15? I just had a go on the BBC page To view the link you have to Register or Login and must apologise for still picking 6 english players despite the generally awful 6N. We did still beat the best team though and those players haven't all become crap overnight. Also 2 or my 6 are currently injured so didn't make the 6N and may not make the Lions:

1. Wyn Jones
2. LCD
3. Furlong
4. Jones (C)
5. Itoje
6. Underhill
7. Curry
8. Faletau
9. Sexton
10. Murray
11. VDM
12. Tuilagi
13. Henshaw
14. May
15. Hogg (VC)

Goes without saying that they all need to prove themselves in the provincial games but I think that is particularly true of Itoje who I've picked based on how good he can be and VDM who is a beast but needs to show what he can do against some really aggressive opposition. Tipuric very unlucky and bound to make the bench. Jonathan Davies and George North too. Marler and Simmonds both have a chance based on current form in the premiership too. I actually think the 9 and 10 is an easy choice. These guys have been there and done it and are back to playing very well. The choice of back up will be harder. I'm not sure if any of Youngs, Farrell or Ford even make the squad. There are arguments for the experience they bring but they just aren't playing well enough.

BBS maintenance and downtime

We'll be carrying out essential maintenance on the BBS over the next few days. You may notice intermittent service interruptions or find that you have been logged out and need to log back in.

There will be some downtime, probably late on Friday evening (26th March) for a couple of hours. Timings will be confirmed when we know them.

Apologies for the inconvenience. This will be another step towards an upgraded BBS with improved performance at busy times.

Colchester away the 70s

mardi 23 mars 2021

I remember going to an away game in the 70s and am trying to find the date. My memory is hazy ,but seem to remember it was a Friday night and think it was a draw. The only player I remember definitly playing was Tony Burns in goal.

That night four of us were meant to go but my best mate dropped out to go out on a blind date. Anyway they were married for over 40 years. But sadly she passed away on Sunday after a long illness. So if anyone can help great .

Dash Cam Advice

Anyone on here have good advice on dash cams?

I am looking at getting one installed in the wifes Kia Sportage as she does a lot of driving for work. We are also expecting our first child so it's mainly to give me some extra piece of mind also.

I like the look of the following on Halfords and have done some reading up, it looks pretty sensible;

Just wondered if anyone knew any other places I could get one installed, or whether there are better out there on the market etc. I don't really want to spend much more than what's in the link, after all it's only a camera!

Cheers.

99-0 !!!!

I haven't seen this posted elsewhere (apologies if I am duplicating it) and it comes from the Times:

Manchester City's pursuit of four trophies continues to throw up stats to delight their followers, and one figure sums up how they are operating on a completely different level to many of their Premier League rivals. As the Game in Numbers reveals, City's 2-0 win over Everton in the FA Cup quarter-finals means they have now scored 99 goals in cup competitions since Crystal Palace last scored one. Not only do Pep Guardiola's team routinely fight their way to the final of domestic cup tournaments, they also play ten games or so per season in the Champions League, so their campaign bears little resemblance to those of the likes of Palace. Combine City's free-scoring with the fact that Roy Hodgson's side have just become the first in the top flight ever to fail to score in the FA Cup or League Cup over two consecutive seasons, and the result is this remarkable 99-0 scoreline.

Ranieri in 2016 at Selhurst.

samedi 20 mars 2021

If 1 person finds this remotely interesting then its been worth taking the time to post it up.........Bit of sportsmanship pre match by Palace fans in the mainstand in 2016 after our then manager Ranieri emerged from the tunnel walking down the touchline towards the away bench...........As we now know Leicester won the match 1-0 and to most of us away fans that were present this game was the clincher towards winning the Premiership and poking all the so called English elite right in their eyes,.............:p

I can't recall him, but it seems that he left after a serious injury. He's now a Pastor of a Church in Wellington near Hereford. Does anyone else remember him?

Premier League Profit After Tax

Interesting animation. You see us start to flourish around 2014 - 2016, before dropping off the chart very quickly never to appear again. Comparing us to Burnley, West Brom, Norwich etc doesn't make us look too good overall.

Those gambles on big name players on big salaries... maybe it kept us up so can be considered worth it, but we are suffering now.

County Cricket 2021

Morning all.

As in previous years, I thought I'd create a separate thread specifically for County Cricket this season. The 'Cricket Thread' thread is normally used for international or general stuff.

After renewing my membership at the Oval (despite feeling somewhat hypocritical for doing so, based on me slagging off Richard Gould so much last year), I've just booked some tickets for the 1st 2 County Championship games this season vs Middx & Glocs in May. Looking forward to enjoying that new Lock/Laker stand.

Let's have the thoughts of the regular Surrey & Kent followers - there's always a few Essex, Sussex & Hants fans on here too - all welcome :p

Anyone looking forward to The Hundred? :wallbash:

Toxic Selhurst Games

jeudi 18 mars 2021

Gradi thread brought up the occasion of our humiliating 5-0 reverse at home to a resurgent Wimbledon, early on during the Coppell era. (Did he offer to resign after the game?)

One of the most toxic atmospheres I've ever witnessed at Palace. What others also stick in the mind? Off the top of my head I can think of the following

Cantona game
Birmingham fancy dress day
Alan Smith empty season tickets on the pitch bonanza
Probably plenty during the Goldberg era but I can't think of one in particular

Away game memories are permitted (Brighton Boxing Day debacle, Swindon playoff away game, trying to get out of Maine Road after Mark Bright assaulted half their team on the way to a jammy away win, QPR Allen v sign, Villa Park semi replay) and even games where the toxicity had nothing to do with us (anti Fergie demo at Old Trafford).

Fire away

Tidner and Silimar

I thought it would be interesting to discuss the merits of Eric Tidner the publisher of the Swedish book "Latinsk Grammatik" and Silimar, of the video game "Destiny 2".

It may appear that there is little relevance given that one is a dead Swedish author and the other is a lord comprised entirely of pixels, However, given this site's history on reasoned and thoughtful discussion and debate, I thought this may provoke some interesting responses.

Main residence/second home question.

mardi 16 mars 2021

I work away, I havent worked since the beginning of the Christmas break, but am now going back to work in the next week or so. My question is, I will be renting digs, but now my home in Scotland will be empty. I will return home (to Scotland) for a maximum of 3 nights a month. Can I, and is it beneficial to me, to class this as a second home? Tax mainly, council tax etc.

My main residence, is likely to be a caravan, or a room share, so will be "all in" bills, IE no council tax paid directly by me.

Any ideas please?

Renting property

Wasn't sure whether to post this off the back of the buying property thread but thought not in case it gets missed and it's a renting question.

I've recently rented a two bedroom flat in London through a letting agent I won't mention just yet.

We had on our tenancy agreement:
- New fridge freezer as the current one is too small for two people - landlord agreed and we have the new fridge
- New mattress as the last one was disgusting - landlord agreed and I have a new mattress
- Removal of all sound system / TV equipment / art stuff (I didn't want it) - landlord agreed and his friends have since removed it.

- Removal of rubbish in the garden - loads of planks of wood, giant broken pots, bins etc. The letting agent is arguing that they only agreed to remove the ''planks of wood'' and the cleaner is coming on Thursday to remove it (2 weeks after I've moved in).

There is also a load of rubbish in the two storage cupboards at the front of the property. I think that everything should be removed PRIOR to moving in - it's not our stuff or rubbish, so why should we have to live with it as a new tenant? Do I have a leg to stand on here? I was going to offer the cleaner removing the planks of wood some extra £ to do the job properly, but I feel that none of it should have been here when I move in?

I also think the cleaner should be cleaning the area that had all the sound equipment / art stuff as they couldn't clean this when they professionally cleaned the property when before we moved in, as it was too full to even move!

I'd be interested to gt everyones thoughts. One part of me thinks it should all be sorted by the letting agent and another part tells me I'm expecting too much from a rental.

Suggestion: Kazuyoshi Miura - Summer 2021

Prolific Japanese forward with a wealth of experience both domestically for Yokohama fc amongst others and with the Japanese National team where he made his International debut at the age of just 22.
A serial winner of cups and leagues over there I think he would be a great signing for us as he has gone under the radar for a few years and would be really cheap.
Also I think at his age he would also be in the sort of age range which we would normally recruit.
SP would love this guy cheap and experienced get in done you know it makes sense :)

Damn fixture changes...

lundi 15 mars 2021

So they’ve moved our game v Everton to one of the worst time slots 18:00pm on Monday April 5 the other change is Chelsea on April 10 at 17:30 that one isn’t bad , but I wish we could keep it to Saturdays at 15:00pm probably suits ppl more anyway , rant over

Suggested Team and Formation For: Everton (a) and the rest of the season

--------------------------------Guaita--------------------------------------
Ferguson---------Kouyate----------------Cahill-------------------Mitchell
----------McArthur----------Riedewald-----------------Schlupp
---------------------------------Eze--------------------------------------
--------------------Mateta-----------------Zaha------------------------------

4-3-1-2 formation.

Eze in a free role, but can drop in to make it a conventional 4-4-2 with Schlupp and McArthur going wider, or JS and JM can tuck in and Jairo can hold leaving us with a diamond midfield. Riedewald can collect the ball off the back 4, and there are runners further forward.

Must give the Mateta and Zaha partnership a chance to see if it can work.

Evelina fundraising/matchday programmes

Hi all,

I am looking at selling my collection of CPFC programmes in order to raise money for a charity event I have organised for the Evelina London Children’s Hospital. I have a collection of over 300 programmes dated between 1987 and 2019. Includes some big games (eg. Both FA cup finals). Just wondered whether anybody has sold programme collections before or knows of any collectors? I have looked online and emailed a few websites but the general feel is that the programmes aren’t old enough to appeal to anyone, particular outside the club who won’t have the same emotional attachment I do. Somebody has suggested putting them on eBay, maybe grouped into seasons. Never used eBay so not sure how well this might work. Just looking for ideas really or if anybody knows of anybody/anywhere that might be interested in buying them, or a selection of them?

The charity I am raising money for is the Evelina London Children’s Hospital who provided lifesaving care for my boy Alfie in 2017 after he suffered severe brain damage following a grade 3 HIE event, and they continue to oversee his development. If you want to know a bit more about what we’re doing and why or if you wish to make a donation it would be greatly appreciated, link below. Thanks all. Stay safe

Watching RVERY game in TV Vs Being there!

I have been wondering lately about how my perspective on the games differs this season watching them ALL on TV compared with every other game live at Selhurst. I must say that the last few games have been bloody awful to watch on tv, to the extent that I have contemplated whether I want to watch them at all. It seems to be one horrible performance after the other. But then we’ve scraped some draws and some wins and we’re sitting in 11th place 6 points behind Liverpool! It makes me think whether we really haven’t been that bad and if we had been at Selhurst these performances wouldn’t have looked quite so bad. When watching at home we are spoilt with replays, pundits , numerous camera angles and the like, maybe that makes us look worse than we actually are. This has, so far, been the best premier league season we’ve had. Has not being at the games made us feel like we’ve played worse this season than usual?

Rumour: Zaha Summer 2021

Might as well get this rolling for another year. Tweet from Palace Extra quoting an Inter Milan site saying they had scouts at Selhurst on Saturday, seemingly looking at Wilf after “his entourage” may have offered him to the club.

Suggestion: Okay Yokuşlu - Summer 2021

Okay Yokuşlu looked excellent for WBA today.

He nullified Zaha (and fairly) every time he came in central, he started many of their attacks & even had probably WBA's best effort on goal, close to scorin at the near post.

They have him on loan from Celta. I can imagine Spanish football is not for him, but he'd be an immense DCM for Palace, and won't cost much. Celta paid €6m for him 2 years ago.

Strong player, decent passing, good footwork and great temprament. Rarely see Zaha contained so well by a single player like that. Exceptional.

Sick as a dog

My dog isn't well at all at the moment. She stayed overnight at the vets and is vomiting any food, despite an antisickness injection. They think it might be giardia or a blockage but will hopefully find out today.

Oriental cooking tips and recipes.

vendredi 12 mars 2021

I am asking in relation to Chinese, Thai, Korean, Malaysian, Vietnamese food rather than extending it to Indian.

The latter I simply take out of a jar and it works well enough for us. I also think it is nigh on impossible to create that authentic, hankered after UK curry house taste in your own kitchen.

While the missus is usually in charge of the kitchen, mainly becasue she is great at cooking, it really fall to me to come up with the more exotic dishes.

Or at least those involving a wok.

While I am in Santiago I would like to stock up on an essential armoury of must have base ingredients, but without getting too picky about it. I am not interested in trying to source some rare leaf that has been shit out by a panda,

It's more about recipes with essential flavoured oils and how to use them and combine them with other flavours. Sesame with Soya etc..

I can get pad thai sauces and we have had some nice food. But if I have rice noodles, some veggies and chicken, how do I put something to gether that can match that if I don't have the ready made sauce to hand.

Thanks..

Meeting with club

The Trust had one of its regular meetings with the club yesterday. See the notes on that meeting below

Season tickets 21/22

The Trust welcomed the recent announcement by the Club that prices for 21/22 season tickets would be kept at 19/20 prices and, in particular, that direct debit payments are again being taken in house with no interest charges.
It was confirmed by the Club that those who paid £200 this season to save their seat could carry this amount over towards the purchase of next seasons ticket, where they would be included in phase 1 sales, or claim a refund, if their circumstances have changed.
Although the sale of 21/22 tickets would commence on 6 April the Box Office would not be open to personal callers until 12 April when Government restrictions should allow non-essential shops, including the 3 Club shops to open. Details of the opening of the Box Office and shops will be publicised along with more accessible information about 21/22 season ticket prices.
The Arsenal home game could potentially be moved along with all ‘phase 37’ games to allow up to around 6500 people to attend. If this happens tickets will be available to current season ticket holders (except those who attended the Tottenham game). As season tickets and refunds will have been made by the time this is confirmed, an individual payment will have to be made for this game for those lucky enough to be offered a ticket.
It was confirmed that on the web site as well as having an ordinary ‘Friends and Family’ designation also has a ‘strong relationship’ link which allows groups to purchase tickets for one another.

Preparations for Next Season.

The Club have to operate under Government and Premier League restrictions, but their aim is (and preparations are being made) for there to be a normal maximum capacity operating at the beginning of next season.

Financial Position after Covid

While no specific details could be given, the Club indicated the pandemic has affected the Clubs financial position with reduced income from ticketing, match sales, events etc. and this will limit immediate future expenditure.
Brexit may alter or restrict some potential purchases of European players in the future with the Club having to ensure that sufficient ‘points’ exist for them to be eligible.

New Stand and Academy

The Club indicated that discussions over the new stand development were continuing with Sainsbury’s and Croydon Council but indications were given that no real progress had been made. No confirmation was given that the Club had approached the Council with a view to a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) being served.
Progress was, however, moving forward rapidly on the Academy works and completion was anticipated for the start of next season. The Club would not confirm whether any new outside investment had been made into the academy.

Streaming of Under 18 Games

The Trust welcomed the recent streaming of the Under 18 game against Norwich on YouTube and asked if this would continue. The Club indicated that showing U18 games on YouTube was likely to be a regular feature for the rest of the season.

Announcement of Renewal / Extension of Player Contracts

The Trust questioned why there is often a delay in the Club announcing new contracts signed by players. Such delays means there is confusion amongst fans and also news organisations as to who is out of contract and who has signed an extension. This has been highlighted over recent months where certain players have been indicated as out of contract at the end of this season when they have in fact renewed. The Trust considered there is no reason why basic details of such agreements should not be released as soon as they are made.
The Club indicated that there are various commercial and confidential reasons for this, and, although recognising the point made, consider they should continue make such announcements via the DOF when they consider it most appropriate.

AOB

The Player of the Year and other awards are likely to be virtual event again this year as will the new kit announcement. Dates will be publicised as soon as available.
The Club are considering putting forward an Under 21 team for the EFL Trophy.

Loft insulation and boarding

Recently bought a house in East Grinstead and would like the loft properly insulated and boarded. It's pretty shoddy up there with random bits of insulation and random pieces of board. Want to be more energy efficient and have some proper storage space.

Well aware this is a job I could attempt myself but would rather get an expert to do it rather than me potentially do a second rate job. Anyone got any recommendations for people/companies who have done this for them?

Premier League games archive site?

Is there a reliable archive site where you can view full Palace games from this and the last few seasons?

Found a site called EPLfootballmatch.com. That worked great until I got to the games at the beginning of this season and prior, but found all the links were broken.

This is going to sound weird but all I’m needing is the bit just before kick off when Roy Hodgson shakes the opposing manager’s hand and exchanges pleasantries. Got an idea for a half amusing video.

Season Tickets 2021/22

Who's renewing then? :lux:

I might move from the Lower Holmesdale for the first time in nearly 10 years. Getting old now and want a seat with a decent view.

Will you be renewing/buying season tickets for next season?? (poll & discussion))

Here we are again then. When I started last/this year's season ticket discussion, who would have known where it was about to go with covid coming up - interesting that Alanlee11 said about playing behind closed door though on the second post - maybe a premonition. To view the link you have to Register or Login

Obviously, there are many factors to take into account this year.

- Will we get to go to all games?
- How 'safe' will it be?
- Will only vaccinated people be allowed?
- I'm sure many other questions too.
- Maybe your questions whether to renew or not may even be because of football reasons (especially if we continue with bore football)?

Anyhow, will you be renewing or buying a ST for next year's campaign?

Following the government’s positive update on the easing of lockdown, we are delighted to be in a position to confirm details for 21/22 Season Tickets, as follows:

20/21 Season Ticket holders are now able to select what they would like to do with the remaining funds on their account relating to the final ten home games of this season, with the choice of: credit, directing the funds towards the club’s Academy or Foundation in the form of a donation, or a straight refund. Please make your selection before 22nd March.
The price of all 21/22 Season Tickets have been frozen at 19/20 rates, with adults from £420, children from £95 and seniors from £280.
Phase 1: 20/21 Season Ticket holders have an exclusive renewal period of six weeks at the lowest rates, between 6th April – 14th May.
Phase 2: Between 15th May – 18th June, 20/21 Season Ticket holders and all 19/20 Season Ticket holders can purchase a 21/22 Season Ticket and save their seat. These prices are also frozen from the Phase 2 window in 19/20, and supporters can pay by direct debit during this window. The direct debit programme will be managed in-house, with 0% interest and no fees charged.
Phase 3: Remaining Season Tickets go on general sale from 24th June, and will also be priced as per Phase 3 pricing in 19/20. A range of Membership products which enable ticket access will also be on sale from June.

There is a possibility that some supporters may be able to attend our final home fixture at Selhurst Park, subject to Premier League decision and government guidelines. Rest assured, your choice of credit/refund/donation on your 20/21 Season Ticket will not impact your eligibility for tickets in this scenario, and 20/21 Season Ticket holders will be prioritised. More information will follow in due course.

Renewals for Seasonal Hospitality clients are also available from 6th April with prices frozen from the 19/20 season. If you’re interested in premium packages for next season, register your interest here.

Everyone at Crystal Palace F.C. would like to thank all Season Ticket holders for their continued patience, loyalty and magnificent support during these unprecedented times, and we eagerly await your return to Selhurst Park.

The Battersea Poltergeist

Has anyone else listened to this?

It's an interesting podcast from the BBC, presented by Danny Robins (who has a decent CV of writing and appearing in comedy stuff on radio and telly, including recently the 'Haunted' podcast, about ghosts, of course).

It's done in an entertaining way, a seemingly serious investigation into what was purportedly a real 'haunting' from the 50s and 60s (which was well-documented and captured the media's attention back then), interlaced with dramatic flashbacks played by a strong cast, including Toby Jones. I started as a sceptic and didn't change my position, and felt that they had fallen into the trap of using spooky music etc, which detracted from the neutrality of the investigation. Good listening though.

Piers Morgan, is his time up ?

I missed the actual event this morning, but I have just seen a clip of him storming off the set of GMTV after a mere weatherman outed him, as being ignored by MM & Harry, and suggesting that Morgan's raging ire towards them is down them cutting him off . His interviews with numerous politicians over the last year are nothing more than a platform for him to rant , rave, and talk over them , they are awful, truly pointless, uninformative , and serve no other purpose than to stroke his massive ego , because rarely does anyone get a chance to speak . In short he has got way too big for his chins, I'm hoping he gets the chop for this or walks away from GMTV . It's unwatchable anyway with him as anchor ..

Player Ratings And Reviews: Spurs (a)

Our best performance, well... most watchable, for a good month or so.

I felt 1-1 at HT was fair, Benteke's finish was great even with the slack Spurs defending. We gifted them a goal.

It was going to go one of two ways from there; Spurs go into bottle mode and implode at each other and Jose or they come out in 5th gear and make us look daft. Much like the 0-7 vs. Liverpool, Spurs was just on it and we couldn't really compete. That said Jairo hit the sidenetting and Wilf the post.

No qualms about the subs. Eze played a lot of minutes in Feb mostly defending and chasing shadows and needed a breather, he is more effective against the teams in the lower half of the table and scored a beauty for QPR vs. WBA last season - I hope he does the same on Saturday. Wilf coming on took the structure away that we have built to cope without him and we will need to readjust.

Schlupp is a threat to the opposition and needed some match sharpness, as did Wilf. Benteke got a breather and it was good to see JP. Not sure we are gonna see Batshuyai again. At that point the result was almost a certainty - a relatively early sub from Roy means we have actually rotated the team a bit.

Really hoping McArthur is back to contain Gallagher on Saturday.

Guaita 6

Ward 5
Cahill 5
Kouyate 6
PVA 6

Ayew 4
Jairo 7
Luka 5
Eze 5
Townsend 6

Benteke 6

Subs:

Zaha 5
Schlupp 5
JP 6

Roy: 7. A sign or two that when parking the bus doesn't work we can revert to our usual springtime more carefree attacking style, once the point are on the board.

Coleman's commentary 8 - agreed with every word until Schlupp was bodychecked. Perhaps Jeff needed to scream to make it a legit foul?! No I don't want Cookie as the next manager thanks.

Suggested Team and Formation For: West Brom (h) 13/03

Guaita
Ward - Kouyate - Cahill - van Aanholt
Milivojevic - Riedewald
Zaha - Eze - Schlupp
Mateta

Butland, Kelly, Dann, Hannam, Townsend, Ayew, Benteke, Batshuayi, Wickham

I think I’ve just listed a line up that will probably never be played by Hodgson but I like the idea of it. It brings pace and movement back into our side and could really trouble their defence. I know Eze wasn’t great when he played in the middle recently but with Zaha and Schlupp either side of him, it could really bring the best out of him.

Harsh to drop Benteke after a goal but I feel Mateta offers more movement up front and runs the channels really well. The ball seemed to stick to him better than in the first 2 games and I think that’s just him showing more confidence after his move.

Manufacturing in China

samedi 6 mars 2021

A UK helmet manufacture is just about to release its latest version the Ruroc Atlas 3.0 they are excited going on about what a great design it is and they have full quality control in opening their own new factory. In China :( The main component is Kevlar that comes from Italy. They ship it all the way to China butl the helmets and ship back to the UK. Is is simply that we can’t make anything anymore?

Speculation: Dion Sanderson

The mail say we are one of several clubs interested in the young Wolves centre back who is doing well on loan at Sunderland.

Young and will have 1 year left on his deal in the summer.

The Anti-virus billionaire is charged with cryptofraud

John McAfee ; certainly a colourful chap, has been charged with crytpocurrency fraud.

Mr McAfee and his bodyguard Jimmy Gale Watson Jr are accused of promoting cryptocurrencies to Mr McAfee's large Twitter following to inflate prices.

The currencies were then allegedly sold, making the pair $2m (£1.45m), prosecutors said.

I put it here, rather than in the computers forum, because he's a hell of a lot more interesting than just a pc man.

1% pay rise for Nurses. Another nail in the coffin for the NHS??

As an ex-nurse of the early 80's (soon to return), I have long known that the NHS was never safe in Conservative hands, however a 1% payrise at a time when they have fought gallantly on wards, for long hours and at personal risk to themselves defies belief.

The NHS remains chronically understaffed, 1/3 of nurses want to leave, long fed up at being undervalued so why does the government feel that it would sit pretty with both the nurses, unions and the general public at large.

This will not end pretty!

Given this is the 2020s, science can no longer be trusted, and we need to put our faith in unfounded conspiracy theories off the internet, I'm inclined to believe this is actually another version of the Philadelphia Experiment that has gone wrong once again.

Suggestion: Albert Tjaaland

jeudi 4 mars 2021

Suggestion / Humour , Molde fk striker Albert Tjaaland 17 years old and younger cousin of Erling Haaland 64 goals in just 37 games in levels he’s played in up to this point, 1:85 m tall (about 6.1 feet ) obviously much bigger clubs will be keeping tabs on him but Haaland went RB SALZBURG before his big move to Dortmund so maybe there’s a chance Tjaaland could move to a club of our size ,
Anyhow one to watch .

Europa League concerns

I’m probably the only one (maybe) but based on last nights performance and a number of others not to mention squad age I do worry that eventually the big EL will catch up with us , I think it’s built in with supporting palace but I always find myself wishing defeat on any team above us even from earlier on in the season .....worried ? You bet I am constantly.

Suggestion: Yacine Adli

Just going to throw a name out there.

We all know we have not had the ability to transition through the 1/3s as well since Cabaye left, a player who would get on the half turn and start progressing us forwards but also able to do the defensive work.

So I think Palace should be looking at Yacine Adli at Bordeaux. they got him from PSG for £5m in Jan '19 but with the state of football finances in France, could they reject a reasonable offer? Only 20 so lots of improvement to come too.

Robert Franco/Kloof Capital

Kloof capital by the looks of it.

ZAHA IS BACK!

This is a difficult one, with loads of questions? Will Zaha be fit enough to start? If he is, who do we drop to accommodate that? Same questions with Schlupp?

Guaita
Ward - Kouyate - Cahill - van Aanholt
Schlupp - Milivojevic - Riedewald - Eze
Ayew - Zaha

Butland, Kelly, Dann, Hannam, McCarthy, Townsend, Benteke, Mateta, Batshuayi

Perhaps harsh on Townsend.

What is all this Round 27 business about then

Why do we seem to be adopting this Round so and so in the UK for each week's matches now. I assume its trying to copy the US style labelling of the matches which seems ludicrous to me. Sky definitely seem to be adopting it which is no surprise as they seem to love meaningless changes.

Has it come from the football authorities, the broadcast media companies or the news reporting? I did see the US TV doing it a while back and have to assume its being copied over here.

Just seems dumb to me.

Air Scrubber

No, not a pejorative term for a woman joining the mile high club. I'm talking about those industrial units you can get to filter air.

We've had a whole house rebuild - that has been f~cked but that's another story - and now we want to short cut clearing up. I've seen these air scrubbers and they look ideal but I'm not sure if they are meant to be used during renovation as opposed to after renovation.

Be grateful for anyone with any experience in this field who could tell me whether it's still worth hiring one now.

How bored would you have to be...

...to watch the iPlayer full match v Fulham again...
It’s up there for the next month... Anyone tempted? You’ve done the hoovering, the DIY, fed the kids, watched The Voice... and then you realise... it’s still ‘available’ . 90 minutes of Palace... It’s waiting for you to weaken, perhaps in the middle of the night, you can’t sleep, you’ve tried everything...and then you remember... Fulham!
I am going to try and resist...

Barcelona Arrests

Police have rocked up to the Nou Camp and arrested the ex president amongst others

I long for the days of enjoying the game

After watching Palace over the last few years with a few exceptions bore us all to mind numbing acceptance that this is what we need to do to for premier league survival .

I thought Id cheer myself up with a bit of the old big match from 1979 (ITV PLAYER )
Palace v Man City , Vegatables v Allison going toe to toe at Selhurst .Every pass went forward seeking a striker ,combatant midfield players picking each other up after crunching tackles , nobody falling over in attempt to con the ref normally with success .

Centre halves running the length of the pitch one twos with the midfield before getting a nose bleed ,wingers going past full backs , real football , enjoyable to watch and regardless of the result you went home knowing you had had your money's worth (about a £1 in those days)

What happened ?

Happy birthday Neil.
