Player Ratings And Reviews: Spurs (a)

lundi 8 mars 2021

Our best performance, well... most watchable, for a good month or so.

I felt 1-1 at HT was fair, Benteke's finish was great even with the slack Spurs defending. We gifted them a goal.

It was going to go one of two ways from there; Spurs go into bottle mode and implode at each other and Jose or they come out in 5th gear and make us look daft. Much like the 0-7 vs. Liverpool, Spurs was just on it and we couldn't really compete. That said Jairo hit the sidenetting and Wilf the post.

No qualms about the subs. Eze played a lot of minutes in Feb mostly defending and chasing shadows and needed a breather, he is more effective against the teams in the lower half of the table and scored a beauty for QPR vs. WBA last season - I hope he does the same on Saturday. Wilf coming on took the structure away that we have built to cope without him and we will need to readjust.

Schlupp is a threat to the opposition and needed some match sharpness, as did Wilf. Benteke got a breather and it was good to see JP. Not sure we are gonna see Batshuyai again. At that point the result was almost a certainty - a relatively early sub from Roy means we have actually rotated the team a bit.

Really hoping McArthur is back to contain Gallagher on Saturday.

Guaita 6

Ward 5
Cahill 5
Kouyate 6
PVA 6

Ayew 4
Jairo 7
Luka 5
Eze 5
Townsend 6

Benteke 6

Subs:

Zaha 5
Schlupp 5
JP 6

Roy: 7. A sign or two that when parking the bus doesn't work we can revert to our usual springtime more carefree attacking style, once the point are on the board.

Coleman's commentary 8 - agreed with every word until Schlupp was bodychecked. Perhaps Jeff needed to scream to make it a legit foul?! No I don't want Cookie as the next manager thanks.
