"On Monday the Daily Telegraph claimed that the new BBC director general, Tim Davie, was preparing to axe left-leaning comedy shows, such as Radio 4’s The Now Show and Have I Got News For You because they are “unfairly biased against the Tories, Donald Trump and Brexit”, as part of a push to make the corporation’s output appeal to a broader audience."
Surely axing these kinds of programmes and replacing them with right wing nationalistic comedy (is there such a thing?) will disenfranchise the original fans, and the audiences will shorten as much as they broaden.
A lame excuse for an authoritarian government to further restrict our national broadcaster, and to interfere with a long history of British political culture (i.e.taking the piss out of the incumbent governments, home and abroad) in the name of so-called balance.
