Having a nitemare and thought I'd come here to see if any of the BBS legends can help me!
I have an 08 Citroen C3 and have had it about a year. Not too many problems apart from the obvious, brake pads etc. Had the clutch go about a month ago and all seemed fine.
A week and a half ago I was driving around a roundabout when the car just cut out. AA came who weren't that helpful and said the diagnostic were not working on it so dropped it off at Halfords auto. They called us the next morning to say they would look at it in a few days and finally called up to say they don't know what the issue is but definately need a timing belt so that was changed. Throughout the next week we were getting calls and texts up until 9pm some night saying they were still trying to sort and said they were trying other things. They mentioned the timing belt would cost £300 but other bits would only cost if needed (bear in mind the car is only worth about £1200). After going back and forth he called and asked if we had a spare key which we did and brought up, by some miracle it was working a couple of hours later yet were billed £800 for work including the fuel pump, diagnostics, coolant change and coolant pump, ignition coil, spark plugs and battery! Massive shock but what can we do! Going to sell the car and make nothing of it however there was nothing in the invoice about the fact the spare key got the car going again which confused me how that would have been the main trigger. He tried to say we needed the timing belts and if we didn't want the rest he could take it all back out again and see what happens. Didn't sit right and now I've seen other people have bad experiences with them.
I got the car back yesterday and the smell of petrol was so strong but I thought it would ease yet after driving around today it has become even worse, unbearably strong. I called and the man said to drop it again in the morning but didn't say what the issue could be.
Question is, why would it smell like that and secondly, am I being harsh and should trust the work needed to be done or doe sit sound a bit odd. My wife asked about a courtesy car whilst waiting and he agreed however started telling us when the car still wasn't working that he was having a disciplinary because of lending it to us although he said he has it all okayed. All very unprofessionalism with the late texts to me or my wife and after my at night etc. in my opinion but maybe he was just thinking he was helpful? Confused...
