Suggestion: Adam Lallana
Throwing this one out there in the hope that it gains some traction and gets Dougie on the case. Looks like hes going to be looking for a move this window and would do a great job for us in a creative role. Is 31 but has has time out so should be able to give us a good few seasons still yet.

Comfortable Mid-Table Calculator
I was dithering about doing this and then I saw Spike's thread which I felt was bound to lead to disappointment so thought I would do it -just to provide balance.
I have taken 47 points as a suitable relaxing total which is 20 more points from 18 games. Over the last ten years the highest total needed to finish 9th was 54 and the lowest 46. Conversely the highest total needed to finish 14th was 45 and the lowest 38. 47 puts out nicely in the middle and should be able to provide balance to - the gloom and euphoria each time we win/lose.
I have a feeling that we will not bring in anyone much in January- possibly a right back - and the injury situation is going to make the second half of the season rather more lean on the points front. That said even allowing for that the total seem manageable. As usual the results are not predictions but simply indications of the type of results we will need to end up somewhere between 9th and 14th.

Rumour: Muhammadu Faal
From BBC January preview...
MUHAMMADU FAAL (22, striker, Enfield Town)
Linked with: Norwich, Watford, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Sheffield United
The new Jamie Vardy? Here's one from non-league...
Striker Faal has struck 24 times for seventh-tier Enfield Town, attracting the attention of Premier League clubs.
If he does get a move, Faal might find himself playing against Liverpool defender Joe Gomez - his second cousin.

British teen in Cyprus guilty of false rape allegations
Anyone keeping up with this case? Seems very fishy, lots of suggestions of corruption. She was allegedly interrogated by the police for hours without a lawyer, before confessing guilt.

European Football Points Calculator 19/20
Given we are closer to 5th than we are to 18th I thought we should have a change this year and have a Let's push for Europe calculator.
Other than Liverpool, the table is a lot closer than in previous years, and the teams in 5th-7th have fewer points than normal at this stage (20 games played).
5th place hasn't had as few as 31 points since 2003/4, when 5th at end of season had 56 points, and 6th/7th as few as 30 since 2010/11. In most years the end of season points for these positions is very close to having the same ppg as after 20 games.
I'm therefore setting the points target at 58 (which is 1 more than 30 * 38 / 20). This should be good enough to get 6th place, and I will assume this will qualify for Europe due to one of the top 4 winning one of the 2 cups (Man City and Leicester are both in the semis of the League Cup). It may be that 7th is good enough, and I will take the chances of that happening as balancing the times that 6th is not good enough.
Given this assumption, we need 31 points from 18 games. We could do this with either 9 wins, 4 draws and 5 defeats, or 8W 7D 3L. I'm going to pick the former.
As ever the below are the sorts of results we need, not a prediction of what will happen.
I will take no responsibility if we have an immediate downturn in form, though just in case I've also done a similar set of results to get 38 points and avoid relegation. I'll swap those results in if we ever drop as far as 16th!
Anyway enough babbling:

Your best Palace memory of the last 10 years.
Over the last ten years as always there have been many ups and downs. What is or was your favourite Palace memory from the last 10 years?
I have 2, Wilfs second goal in the play off semi at Brighton, we were written off going down there at 0-0 and Murray out.
The second is the winning header by Wickham in the Fa semi, knowing we were going back for the final was just a great feeling, of course the 5 minutes after Punch had scored were amazing too but we all knew pretty soon that game was going one way.

Weve had a lot of contenders, who would you pick? I pick Jonathan Benteke, only made one first team appearance but was f*cking awful for the under 23s
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, can he will help AC Milan en 2020
:lux: Ibrahimovic, 38, has returned to Milan on a free transfer with a contract running initially until the end of the season.
To everyones shock, he decided to return back to Europe. Why? To prove he isnt like other humans. To prove that the Lion is still the king of the jungle! Zlatan Ibrahimovic has vowed to help Milan rescue their season after a dreadful campaign so far.
He scored 56 goals in 85 games in his first spell at San Siro, winning Milans most recent Serie A title in 2010-11. Now, Milan is struggling, 11th in the table and with half the points of league leaders and city rivals Inter.
With the imminent arrival of Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, AC Milan forward Susos place in the squad is at risk.
The 26-year-old Spaniard has made 15 appearances for the Milanese club so far this season but has struggled to truly shine, only scoring one goal and providing two assists in this time, despite playing over 1200 minutes.
Suso found more success last season under coach Gennaro Gattuso, scoring eight goals and providing nine assists in 41 appearances across all competitions. He is contracted to the Rossoneri until 2022.
After two years in MLS with LA Galaxy and with his career presumably coming towards its end, some have suggested that Ibrahimovic represents an act of desperation from Milan rather than a quality signing.
At an age when most players are on the decline, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is trying to stretch an already rich career. Thierry Henry and David Beckham returned to Europe at the end of their careers, after an exile across the Atlantic, but without regaining their luster. Succeeding where these stars have failed is a challenge the size of the Zlatan.
Obviously hes a lot older now, but his impressive form in the US would make one think that he still has the talent to contribute in Europe. At this point, AC Milan has no other options because Piatek is simply not doing the job upfront as their number nine. The club is also looking to bring in a left-back, central defender, and another striker in January if possible.
Ibrahimovic could come up against his old team-mate Ekdal in his first match, with Milan hosting Sampdoria on January 6.
Egolandia, Corriere Dello Sport titled, highlighting the challenge between Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The paper added: Milan announces Ibra. Serie A becomes the challenge of the two phenomena. Cristiano, who considers himself the number one in history and Zlatan, who loves to compare himself to a god. Where the first reigned unchallenged, another champion arrives who does not admit a superman outside himself.

2019 Annual Premier League Table
dimanche 29 décembre 2019
This has probably been posted elsewhere, in which case, many apologies and please merge/delete as appropriate!
In case not, this is the 2019 League table (taking into account all games played in the PL this calendar year). I was surprised to see Palace above our two North London rivals:
However, it has to be pointed out that as this table straddles two League seasons, it's not comparing like with like - as it's possible that Palace didn't have quite such a tough schedule as the other teams.

How is VAR?
Ok, let's cut out the rivalry for this one. Cross-club opinions on VAR please.
Should it be left as is, adapted or just scrapped? If the latter, isn't it about time we made a concerted effort to get this done?. Ninety minutes of "**** VAR" at every ground would help, surely?.
In particular, how is this affecting your match day experience for those that attend games. Falmer supporters can switch back to another thread now.

Roy and Palace Down's Syndrome support
Nice story on BBC football website about the Palace Down's Syndrome Eagles team getting a special visitor, namely our own Roy Hodgson. Team is part of the Palace Foundation. You can see the look of pride on the faces of parents and shows the club in the kind of light that is right.

Young 'Boro centre-back, currently their captain. Wouldn't be cheap but wouldnt inject some much needed youth into an aging squad.
With Dann surely reaching the end of his top flight career and Sakho possible departure in the summer, would be a good addition.
Not an urgent need for a CB but I believe its about getting the right players at the right time.

Erling Braut Håland
Just signed for Dortmund. Clever lad, picked a good club he’ll develop well at, instead of a ‘glamour’ move to the wankers.
Definitely a player to keep an eye on, crazy potential.

Jairo or PVA ?
After watching Jairo over at the Halmstad game when he looked like a bald/fat 50 year in midfield .... who is this quick footed hairy left back who can pass and move alongside Wilf?
From the little we've seen so far I'm preferring him over Patrick as he's better in defence and transition to attack... thoughts?
Have we found by injury again a star fullback Cos I'm liking this new him! :lux:

There are signs if you are a pessimistic Palace fan. Norwich havent won at home since that game V Man City, they dont keep clean sheets.
But still, Im saying Canaries 1 (Pukki) Eagles 3 ( Ayew, McCarthy, Wickham).

Best goal ever by a Palace player?
vendredi 27 décembre 2019
I've been watching Palace for 60 years and I've seen many fine players over those years (from Johnny Byrne onwards). I've been racking my brains to remember a greater individual goal than Jordan's yesterday. To be the last minute winner was the icing on the cake!
There's been some absolutely vital and memorable goals over the years - including plenty from the magnificent Wilfried - but unless someone can come up with a better and more skilful one that I've forgotten, I think we might just have seen the best ever yesterday. It had everything. Palace players just don't that!!
Any suggestions for a better one?

Crystal Ball: What will be our final position?
Very slightly late, this is the poll we always run in mid-season to predict our final position. By all means make comments on the thread if you wish to, but please remember that when assessing the predictions at the end of the season it is the Poll that will be used, not the thread comments. So if you want your prediction to count towards your Crystal Ball score, you must vote in the actual poll.
If your prediction turns out to be exactly correct, you will earn 5 points. If you are just one place out in either direction, you will earn 2 points
As per normal, there is a deadline for your vote to count. That deadline is kick-off against Norwich on January 1st

In this vote, you can vote however you feel like. The best performance, the most emotional, biggest cheer etc etc.
Here are the awards so far:

No prizes for guessing who ours is, but what interested me about this was that at least two of of the players they name as the best players at their respective clubs since 2010 are a disgrace and deserving only of the Bruce Grobelaar Prize for Bringing Football into Disrepute. Luis Suarez and Troy D****y.
The other amusing thing is the number of comments by people who don't know what a "decade" is.

The Argentina international is a hugely influential figure at the Nou Camp
According to Spanish media outlet Sport, Neymar Jr. is in Uruguay with his former teammates Lionel Messi to celebrate the 10-year-anniversary of Luis Suárez and his wife Sofía Balbi in Punta de Este.
The trio linked up at FC Barcelona to form one of the most feared attacks in all of Europe.
You may remember that nightmare of a game they gave Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 when the Catalan club turned around a 4-0 deficit in the UEFA Champions League and won 6-1 at the Camp Nou in the return leg.
It's been another brilliant year for Lionel Messi at Barcelona. He helped the Catalan giants win the La Liga title earlier in the season and his exploits saw him win a sixth Ballon d'Or this season.
Messi:love: is widely regarded as the best footballer of all time, with the Barcelona star's sensational exploits seeing him win 34 trophies throughout his career. And things could get even better for him in 2020.
Barcelona are not expecting fireworks in the January transfer window but Lionel Messi has been made a priority with 18 months left on his contract
A return to Barcelona for Neymar is one of a number of requests Lionel Messi is set to make as he extends his stay.
The Argentine yields huge amounts of power at the Nou Camp and has a clause in his contract that allows him to opt out should he choose.
Lionel Messi is one player who says would like to have seen Neymar back in Barca colors.
I understand some people were against it and thats normal considering everything that happened and how he left us, but thinking about it on a sporting level, for me Neymar is one of the best players in the world, he said.
Nou Camp legend Rivaldo claimed earlier this month that the PSG man is the only player who can replace Lionel Messi.
"Messi wont last forever. One day his final match will arrive and he will leave football, he told Betfair.
Now he is making the difference, scoring goals but you have to have another player to play his actual role.
"Just one player can be the substitute of Messi in Barcelona and that player is Neymar.
He was wrong leaving Barcelona, but, if he returns, he will be able to make the difference as Messi is doing now."
Ernesto Valverde upped the ante with an interesting cash-plus player deal worth £182m.
But a transfer failed to get over the line as both parties wrangled over cash.
"I know other clubs were also negotiating with PSG. At one point during the negotiations, Neymar asked PSG to only negotiate with Barca. He decided only to join Barca.
"Neymar did what he had to do, he told his club about his decision, he did everything possible, but this year he will play at PSG."
:confused:Will Barcelona be able to successfully land Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain next summer?

Roy's contract?
jeudi 26 décembre 2019
From his interview on Amazon earlier it appears to me he's not going to sign a contract until he sees what happens in the January transfer window. He kept making the point very clearly about our injuries and the need for more players.
I know about financial restraints etc but this is getting worrying.

Forgive me Jordan
You are only one of a few players in our team who is actually good at kicking the ball.
You are only one of a few players in our team who can kick the ball towards the goal with accuracy and intent.
You are the only one of our players who has scored such a sublime and creative, solo goal.
You run around a lot.
You score different types of goals.
You are not Benteke.
I thought you were a signing that symbolised our shoddy recruitment ambition, but you are turning into one of the best things about coming out to watch Palace. Close ball control is incredible, no problem receiving it under pressure. I even don't mind your sour faced expressions any more, I love them.

What happened at FT?
Lots of Ambulances and Police and my nephew said he saw someone KO'ed near Sainsbury's, anyone know what happened?
Roy's finally saved our home form
Currently 9th in the home games table for the premier league with the record:
4 3 3
Those 3 losses? The top 3 teams in the premier league.
Think he deserves massive credit for not only continuing our fantastic away form, but for finally putting an end for a problem that caused us massive problems ever since we got promoted. We used to never beat the teams around us at home.
I think this is the first year we've been outside the bottom 3 home teams in the division!
And he's done it with practically 0 budget and good players sold during his tenure.
Whatever you think of his play-style, he seems to have fixed a problem Pardew, Pulis, BFS couldn't fix.

Discussion: Roy wants 4-5 players
Just been interviewed on Amazon Prime after the game and hes said hes hoping the Chairman gives him the 4-5 players the team desperately need....... heres hoping Roy!!

Rules are as follows
1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.
2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)
3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).
4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.
5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.
6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.
7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.
8 Singles and upwards accepted.
9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.
10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2
11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.
12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.
13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..
14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You cant shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.
15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher
16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)
17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after
Order of Merit update after October.

Forward for Barnsley, only 22 years old, great finisher
Already got a hattrick this year in the championship. Looks like a possible hidden gem who's gone right under the radar. Has a penchant for the spectacular goal as well. Believe this is the sort of signing we should be making this January, Barnsley where they are struggling, will be doing everything they can to keep him but if a premiership club comes calling they may be powerless to keep him

Newcastle (H) - 22nd February 2019
I haven't booked online in a while as usually I go using a mates ticket who can't go to games. Just looked at this game in February, says tickets went on sale on 20th December, doesn't say it is sold out, but the Pick seats button is greyed out, any reason for this? I can pick seats for Southampton on 21st January. Is the game just too far in advance yet? I'm also a member I should add.

What's on your ideal cheeseboard over Christmas?
What's on your ideal cheeseboard over Christmas? In the same way that guests on Desert Island discs get given the complete works of Shakespeare and a copy of the Bible (or similar), I am going to give you a really good cheddar and the perfect Stilton to start off with.
Which three cheeses would you add to this to make up your ideal Christmas cheeseboard? For variety I would suggest a soft cheese, a hard cheese and one other, but it's your cheeseboard.
What accompaniments do you go for? Crackers/savoury biscuits or bread? What kind of pickles and relishes? And what are you going to drink with it?

Serie A is the "hardest defensive league in the world" really???
lundi 23 décembre 2019
Romelu Lukaku:jerkit:: "He told me Serie A is the hardest defensive league in the world. He said he'd scored goals everywhere, but this was the toughest place to do it. And if Cristiano Ronaldo thinks it's difficult, then it must be really difficult. It's harder than England.
Football is more intense there, but here everything is the pattern of play."
The former Red Devils forward Lukaku and Ronaldo are embroiled in a neck-and-neck title race between Inter and Juventus, level on points after 17 games. But the two individuals have had different fortunes when it comes to goalscoring.
Ronaldo has scored a respectable 10 goals from 14 Serie A appearances so far, but it represents his worst goalscoring tally at this stage of the season in a decade.
Romelu Lukaku has now scored as many league goals for Inter this season as he managed for Man Utd last campaign.
2018/19: 32 games, 12 goals
2019/20: 17 games, 12 goals and is developing a good relationship Argentinian striker Lautaro Martinez.
Lukaku left the Red Devils in the summer transfer window after two seasons to join Inter Milan on a five-year deal.
In 2017 Lukaku moved from Everton to Northern England for 84.7 million euros.
In two years, the attacker scored 42 goals in 96 games for the Red Devils but only 15 of those came in his final season as he fell out of favor under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Lukaku credits his quick start to life in Italy to hard work off the field, and a facility for languages, with Italian being the seventh the 26-year-old can speak.
Inter are currently top of Serie A, although they are level on points with Ronaldo's Juventus. Lukaku scored a brace as Inter secured a 4-0 victory at home to Genoa last weekend.

"I used to go and see Crystal Palace, and be a member of the National Front when I was younger and then I grew up."
Went on to describe visits to a local NF shop, then up the palace to "....watch Wright, bright and gray..."
Maybe I'm naive but I lived on Whitehorse road for 20years by the time wright and bright had scored 230 goals for palace, I never knew or even heard of an NF shop near Selhurst.
In fact the only time I'd witnessed any crap was at away matches, Chelsea and QPR standout in my memory, with some knucklehead thrusting some racist pamphlet in my hand outside the tube station at chelsea. I was lucky that there was a crowd as I'd screwed it up and threw it at him, I was a skinny 16 year-old.

Palace Team of the Decade - Manager
Inspired by Baffled Bobs thread in Memory Lane and by Woosies Athletic article. This is the BBS Team of the Decade, as voted by you.
Theres question marks over how people should vote: It could be your favourite player, the player you think was best, the biggest impact, longevity etc. I think it should be down to you.
The time frame includes the second half of the 2009-2010 season (Hillsborough) all the way through to the first half of this season. Votes should only be cast based on this decade. For example if players played in both this and the last decade, base your decision on what they did in this one.
Formation is 4-2-3-1. There shall be players who will feature in multiple polls due to their versatility or just the fact they changed position during their career.
Here is our team!
SUBS: Vicente Guaita, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, James Tomkins, James McArthur, Jason Puncheon, Andros Townsend, Christian Benteke
Now its time to find out who manages them!

Amazon: a beast of a corporation
The Amazon monopoly and the problem with Jeff Bezo’s business model:
To view the link you have to Register or Login
I have woken up over the last few weeks that Amazon is a growing beast that is taking a grip over everyone, killing all it’s competition, not of a monopoly of product but of the market place itself. At now time is it more visible all the amazon packages in my street as everyone purchases their Christmas presents. Amazon will continue to grow as people want convenience, but this comes at a price as we are funding a corporation that has more money than countries, that doesn't pay tax anywhere and causes a greater carbon footprint due to all the packages travelling around the world.
I’m going to give my money to local shops rather than a growing multinational with zero societal or environmental conscience. Sure my few hundreds of pounds a year won’t make a difference and I’m sure I’m going to get some flax from people.

A Spice Girls Video Retrospective
I have decided it’s time to revisit the glorious back catalogue of Spice Girls videos, ranking the songs and variable degrees of attractiveness of each Spice Girl. I will apply some shambolic system of points scoring, but I pretty much already know which will finish first and last in each category. Nevertheless, I welcome criticism, abuse, and/or reverent praise for my numerous contentious decisions. That said, my decisions are final.
First up - Wannabe
Song Rating - 2.5/5
Despite being the song that catapulted them to fame, it’s a bit of an amateurish effort. Their voices sound a little immature, with even Mel B yet to develop that deep bass that makes one’s balls feel like they are vibrating on a glass coffee table being shared with a 1990’s mobile phone on silent mode. Extra half point for ‘zig a zig aah’.
Video Rating - 3/5
Not one of my favourites, it has to be said. The costumes are borderline schizophrenic in some cases, with Geri Halliwell in particular looking like she’s had to break off early from her part time job serving drinks and stripping in a Soho bar because she’s shit her pants. Usually one of my favourites, Mel C looks and acts like a council estate ASBO delinquent. However, she and Mel B earn extra points for ice cube nipples. Emma does her usual impression of a young Judy Finnegan. Posh spice black mini dress.
Attractiveness rating at this point:
1 - Mel B
2 - Mel C
3 - Geri
4 - Emma
5 - Posh

I have differences with him on NATO, Trident etc but think he is charismatic, and also working class, ex military and wants left wing politics. Hes also very pro democracy.

NHS funding
This was from the speech today
Ministers are making big play of the extra funding, but experts within the health service have warned even with the above-inflation sums going in, it will take years to turn the NHS around and get it back to where it was a decade ago in terms of waiting times and performance - perhaps even a decade.
What I dont understand is if more and more money has been given to the NHS each year why its having these problems. If the money equals inflation it can only mean a demand for services. Diabetes and overweight? Elderly longer living? Higher population or all three? At what point do you have to stop and simply say thats it? As a point if I was asked to pay some more tax for it to into the NHS I absolutely would. After seeing the JOE video to guess prices in the USA I realised I had been taking the NHS for granted.

There are now several threads on Away Fans End devoted to Brighton. Whilst there is a small amount of genuine and witty banter, the majority of it is wallowing in the basement. It does nothing for our well being. Can we not just ditch the whole Bally lot of them except for when we play each other.

Did I over-react?
Apologies if this is in the wrong forum section but it does relate to a palace game and seemed a bit too serious for "chit chat".
At last night's game the guy a few rows back varied his usual "tactical" bollox that he shouts (and which we all around him accept as his right to express) by throwing in a few "does your boyfriend know your'e here" chants aimed at the Brighton players.
I spoke to him at half time and told him that I thought his language was homophobic and unacceptable in this day and age. He took exception to this, told me it was much worse in the 70's and said I was welcome to report him. I said I would if it continued.
He didn't shout it again in the second half so that was the end of it, but genuine question, does anyone think I over-reacted?

I spoke to him at half time and told him that I thought his language was homophobic and unacceptable in this day and age. He took exception to this, told me it was much worse in the 70's and said I was welcome to report him. I said I would if it continued.
He didn't shout it again in the second half so that was the end of it, but genuine question, does anyone think I over-reacted?
Injuries, suspensions and stupid xmas bastard fixtures
Latest then as lots of confusion and false information about. Huge games coming up still.. newcastle, West Ham, southampton and Norwich! Very much likely to shape the rest of the season and we have one of the worst injury crisis we’ve seen.
Ward - was 2/3 months with a knee injury that puts him back late jan/early feb- OUT
Sakho - suspended. Back vs West Ham 26/12 - avail for 3 of 4
Cahill - minor op Roy: “will be a relatively long-term injury” - OUT
Pva - Roy: “PVA is working and we hope that might not be so long” - MAYBE
Jairo - injured in training and only made it until H/T. Unknown but missing next game according to Roy “we’ve now lost our 3 left back options” - MAYBE
Schlupp - 2/3 months Roy:”it’s a long term injury - OUT
Townsend - unknown Roy: “it’s a long term injury - OUT
So all likely missing for Newcastle. Reading between the lines sakho back after that from suspension with PVA and Jairo a maybe for West Ham at best? Those three it seems are the only real possible returns we might see in this run. Savage
Also wilf, McCarthy and ayew are only 2 yellows from suspension and need to get through the next three games before it resets. All three like to pick them up so woosah lads...wilf, I’m looking at you!

Utter delusion on North Stand Chat
If you want a laugh, head over to NSC. Despite failing to beat us they are claiming a moral victory after last night despite it ending 1-1. Apparently we were 'Potterballed' and they are now miles ahead of us in footballing terms. Yet when I look at the league table this morning I see Palace in 9th and Brighton in 13th
I'll be the first to admit it, they played well last night but we gave them far to much respect and it was such an under par performance from us for 70 minutes. When we actually got in their faces in the last 20 minutes they buckled and after the goal there was only going to be one winner.
Do the Weed fans also not realise that we had a centre back playing at right back, 2 midfielders playing at left back and our 5th choice centre back starting? Yes I know they also had a few players missing but nothing like ours with our best back 4 out in Ward, Cahill, Sakho and PVA and also key players in Townsend and Schlupp missing.
Lastly, apparently we are a one man team despite having the 2nd best defence in the league. According to them, once Zaha goes we are screwed and certainties for relegation. Don't they realise that we will have A LOT of money to spend and could easily buy 3-4 decent players?
Brighton and Hove Albion FC, the gift that keeps on giving!

Wondering where I put my CV in for a job in the scouting department?:hmph:

Player Ratings And Reviews: Palace 1-1 Brighton
What a dreadful performance and awful tactics from Hodgson but I’m just glad we didn’t lose.
Zaha superb finish. Guiata such a good keeper. Meyer made a big difference when he came on.ayew tireless.
On the downside, Riedewald was woeful; McCarthy is such a bang average player; and benteke is a ghost. He gave us nothing up front and we badly missed Ayew harassing the back line. Please never play benteke again.
Dreadful approach to a home game against an average team. Without wilf we are nothing. At least we can remember that wonderful strike and a point is ok.

Set Plays
When we first came up, set plays were a lifeline, but this season the return has been zero from 68 corners and numerous free-kicks. The corner kicks are nearly always to close to the keeper, don't get past the first man, or sail over everyone's head. Luka has a bad habit of sometimes looking at his feet when taking corners, so the ball hardly gets off the ground. Also the players are almost always clustered around the penalty spot - we never have anyone attacking the ball from the edge of the area. I don't know what the answer is, but I think it is one of the main reasons we have scored so few goals this season.
Break up of the UK. Do we really care?
With Nationalism on the rise everywhere, the UK is certainly feeling the pressure. You have the Nationalists in Scotland that are even more rabid than Englands. The rise of Sinn Fein and a population tipping point in favour of the Catholics. Wales is a bit quiet but still have a vocal Nationalist group. So if they do go should we be bothered. We, as in England, pay more to support these regions, I believe but happy to be proved wrong. They want to go, its costs us money why wouldn't we say cheerio and let them go with our blessing?
Josh Maja
Chelsea supposedly weighing up a bid for ex Sunderland (now at Bordeaux) striker Josh Maja.
We were supposedly interested at 3.5m last January, suspect his value is now north of 15m.

Wonder what the financial ramifications will be from this? Arsenal have distanced themselves from Ozils comments but will Man C seek compensation?
Sure what Ozil has spoken out about is commendable, but the cynic in me cant help but think this is the same man whos best mates with Turkeys PM Erdogan.

Sin Bins. Yes? No? How?
samedi 14 décembre 2019
Given how sin bins are being rolled out for grassroots football, is it time for implementation in the League / Prem? Perhaps automatic five-minute 'binning' for a yellow? ( imagine how many 10 man periods Zaha would win us against clubs like Bournemouth and So-Watford )
Would we want this? Too much change in the aftermath of VAR? If so, how best to implement it?

Northern Ireland Border Poll 2020?
Quote:
As part of the Good Friday Agreement, an explicit provision for holding a Northern Ireland border poll was made in UK law. The Northern Ireland Act 1998 states that if at any time it appears likely to him that a majority of those voting would express a wish that Northern Ireland should cease to be part of the United Kingdom and form part of a united Ireland, the Secretary of State shall make an Order in Council enabling a border poll. |
Could a Border Poll be on the cards next year?
Social media and politics
The influence of social media on politics needs to be addressed. I fear that we won't have the open and honest discussion needed as the disinformation and manipulation which has been allowed has massively benefitted the tories.
Fake messages, fake people, twitter "farms" all contribute to the steady drip of misinformaiton.
The 'victors' need to start by acknowledging and owning the issue. Some people on here were taken in by the lies and spread them further. They would not even admit that they had been sickered.
Why wasn't the report into Russian interference released prior to the election? Will it even be released now Johnson has such a huge majority? Will tory voters ignorance?

Enjoyed last nights opening games. Klaasen had MVG on the ropes for a while before coming back to win. This year will will see Barneys final appearance before retiring so hope he has a good tournament, but despite the initial wobble last night hard to see past MVG winning again this year imho.

2019 Percentage Swing Labour to Liberal Democrats
4.2% swing went to the LDs, while the CONs have only increased their % share by 1.2%, only 0.1% more than the GREENs have.
Plus whole 3% less than the LDs.
Again, the media are not stressing this reality. Most of Labour's loss went to the Liberal Democrats.

El Clasico
Real Madrid and Barça were supposed to play at Camp Nou on 26 October, but protests relating to Catalan independence led to the game being rescheduled for 18 December.

Barcelona skipper Lionel Messi hopes to face a very strong Real Madrid team in the December 18 encounter at the Camp Nou.
Messi :love:has played 40 times for Barcelona against Real Madrid over the years, winning 18 of those games.
The showdowns have ended in a draw 10 times, while the Catalan giants have lost on 12 occasions to their fierce rivals.
Messi has scored a remarkable 26 goals in El Clasico - which is eight more than previous record-holder Alfredo Di Stefano.
And the Argentina international has also chipped in with 14 assists.

I look forward to £350m a week going to our NHS now and the 40 new hospitals. We can get rid of lazy Poles and Latvians at last. No more sponging care workers and no more pesky pay rises for those at the bottom of the ladder.

Press Conference Live: Pre-Brighton Thursday 1pm
Missed this again - no announcement on the official site and no live stream. :( Summary from club Twitter feed...
Roy has arrived for the Pre-Brighton press conference! There will be no live stream but it will be available in full on Palace TV before Mondays game.
Roy: Jeff Schlupp will definitely be ruled out through injury, alongside Joel Ward. There might be more names added to that list unfortunately but I'm not willing to divulge that currently.
Roy: Over the course of 40 games these injuries do pop up. We certainly still have eleven good players who will be available for Monday.
Roy: I have no worry that the players will know exactly what they're up against. You also can't say often enough how well the crowd get behind the team on these occasions. Bournemouth was evidence of just how important they can be.
Roy: I would like to see us score more goals. Our forwards are aware of that pressure but I believe those goals will come. If they don't, our defensive form still gives us a good base for a good season.
Roy: I'm not able to give any update or a return date on Pat. He's very keen to get back as soon as possible. He's working hard to that end but again, I'll have to wait and see how his rehab progresses.
And that's it from Roy! The full press conference will be available to watch on Palace TV before Monday's game. To view the link you have to Register or Login Official club app

UEFA Champions League
mercredi 11 décembre 2019
The 2019 UEFA Champions League group stage is done and dusted. The final spots in the round of 16 have now been confirmed, with the likes of Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG, Juventus, Bayern Munich, and several other European giants securing progression.
Ajax and Inter Milan:sob: are two sides that missed out on a ticket to the knockout stage and will have to be content with dropping down for the Europa League. For everyone else, the focus shifts to who they will face in the next round.
The rules are simple: every team that won their group will be put in one pot while the second-placed sides will go into the other. Two teams from the same pots or two teams from the same group cannot face each other. Furthermore, two teams from the same country can't be drawn against each other this means Liverpool, who came in first, can't face Group B runners-up Tottenham.
Pot 1 (Group winners)

Bayern Munich
Man City
Juventus
Liverpool

Pot 2

Chelsea
Real Madrid will be in for a tricky time. After finishing behind PSG, Los Blancos could face anyone from Bayern Munich, Man City, Liverpool, and Juventus. As for the reigning champions, they will not have to worry about Chelsea and Tottenham. The same applies to Man City.
Barcelona could face a familiar foe in the form of the Blues, having locked horns in Europe several times before. For Lampard's side, it appears nearly impossible to dodge a huge team. Here are the possible round of 16 opponents for the remaining European giants in the Champions League.
Liverpool: Real Madrid, Shakhtar/Dinamo Zagreb/Atalanta, Atletico Madrid/Bayer Leverkusen, Dortmund, Lyon
Man City: Real Madrid, Napoli, Atletico Madrid/Bayer Leverkusen, Dortmund, Lyon
Chelsea: PSG, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Barcelona, RB Leipzig
Tottenham: PSG, Valencia, Juventus, Barcelona, RB Leipzig

Pubs for: Southampton
Hi all,
Couldnt find answers to any of these questions in here. My first time going St Marys so just a couple if anyone could help!
1. Which pubs do us away fans drink in?
2. What is the closest station to that pub or the ground? Southampton Central?
Also, will the HF be at this one?
Thanks!

Jim Smith Dead
BBC South reporting the death of Jim Smith.
I remember him for his time at Oxford, taking them from the Third to First Divisions.
Great character.
Cannot see this on the BBC Website as yet.

Match Updates: European football 10/11/12 December
A fascinating week's football in store. Some big teams might not make it through the group stages!
I'm off to see Lyon v RB Leipzig a little later.
This is how tight it is: if Lyon beat Leipzig, Lyon finish 1st (whatever happens in the other match, I think)! But if Lyon were to lose 0:1 and Benfica beat Zenit St.Petersberg 1:0, Lyon finish bottom of their group and out of everything!
Lyon's form is so dodgy this season, anything could happen!

Premier league 2 U23s
Just been looking at scores tonight and noticed this league. Why are we not in either division?
Just became a grampa for the second time
My son and daughter in law just had their second child. Townes Stewart(mums maiden name) Ginsbury. Wish they lived closer but they're 2300 miles away in Wyoming.
Have you changed who you are planning to vote for?
I read over the weekend that apparently a high percentage of people are not intending to vote for their usual choice or have changed their mind since the election was announced.
So my question is whether you are a staunch supporter of one particular party or a floater voter, since the election was announced have you changed your mind with who you intend to vote for?
Whether it be because you plan to vote tactically or you have just been put off voting for your original choice for whatever reason.
Dont worry I am not expecting people to reveal their choices if they dont want to.
When the election was first announced, I was going to vote for the same party I voted for in 2015 and 2017. However, since the campaining has gone on I am not so sure now and will probably vote differently on Thursday.

Banned from the World cup but not the Euros :jerkit:

Despite the ban, Russia will be able to compete at Euro 2020 - in which St Petersburg will be a host city - as European football's governing body Uefa is not defined as a 'major event organisation' with regards to rulings on anti-doping breaches.

TV Fixtures
The Trust have received the following in from the Football Supporters Federation
I've been speaking to the Daily Star about doing a piece around Xmas fixture disruption to be published in coming weeks (the issue of TV/football problems is an acknowledged problem in the broadsheets but it's a little more unusual to get it in a tabloid with its own audience, so I think it's worth doing).
They're onside with the key issues: the PL need to hit their own deadlines for releasing dates, more broadcasters means more hassle and cost for fans, and clubs need to make better use of the broadcast revenue they receive to help match-going fans.
What I need from you
For the piece I'm keen to get quotes from fans who are directly experiencing such problems related to kick-off times and particularly those relating to Amazon's Boxing Day Schedule. If you could send me your thoughts directly to michael.brunskill@thefsa.org.uk I'll collate them and pass them on. Keep it interesting & punchy!
If anyone wants to contribute do contact Michael direct

Clean sheets 19/20
Yesterday we equalled our top flight league record of three consecutive clean sheets in a row. Quite an achievement when you consider the amount of disruption through injuries and suspensions weve had to the defence in those three matches.
For those who are interested; in the Premier League we have not conceded for three games only twice before; no surprise that it was under Allardyce and Pulis.
Coppells Div 1 sides in the early 90s managed two runs of three games not conceding.
The only other time the club have managed it was under Bert Head in 1970.
No Palace team have ever gone four games in the league at the top table without conceding. I aint going to say it...

Suggestion: Right back ciover
Suggesting Daniel Amartey from Leicester , 24 , as worth a loan with a view to buying as right back . Can also play midfield .knows Jordan.
Had a bad injury so would need to be checked out before purchasing .

This shows what a good side we have become under Roy Hodgson especially when comparing our spend on players compared to other clubs in 2019.
Out of interest rivals Brighton are the 17th best team in the Premier League in 2019 having picked up just 29 points from 33 games.

Christmas Lunch
We will only have six around the Christmas day table this year, so after years of trying, I've been able to get roast goose on the menu. I've nothing against turkey but never having cooked goose before, I was keen to give it a go.
I'd be interested to hear whether there are any do's and don'ts and tips on roasting the fowl. For instance roasting for an hour on its breast, pricking the skin, pouring boiling water over the skin before roasting, basting with Lemon juice etc, etc.
Also, the first course. We tend to alternate between smoked salmon, antipasto and occasionally broth with ravioli. What's everyone else having for starters?

Rumour: Dwight McNeil
Palace linked with McNeil in the Sun. Identified as a possible Zaha replacement. Good player.
Watford's Great Disabled Experience
I take my hat off to the brilliant service that Watford now have for visiting Disabled fans.
Upon arrival we were met by a personal assistant who escorted us into the ground and then we were able to use a lift to get down to our seat, being met by the same personal assistant who had taken the stairs. After we were seated we were then asked if we wanted any refreshments brought to us at half-time.
Other clubs could do well by following the example of service offered at Watford for Disabled fans.
With my CPFC DSA hat on I will be contacting Watford to commend the way that they deal with Disabled fans.

The midfield is pathetic
Sure, they work hard but that should be a given. It's great that they can put their foot in to win some tackles and interceptions. But what's the point when none of them can actually pass the ball when we've got it? We have 3 defensive midfielders playing. We need a minimum of one playmaker. If it's not Meyer or Camarasa then we need to buy someone who Roy will trust, as a priority. I don't care who is playing up front - it's almost completely irrelevant if that's the way we are going to set up the midfield, so no point signing anyone like Batshuayi. No wonder we struggle to score goals. And Roy said recently that he thinks we pass well through central midfield. Worrying. He's got to be joking surely? We are so boring to watch. Such a shame because the spine is there for us to be a good team.

Palace Team of the Decade - Centre Mids
The team so far is:
SUBS: Vicente Guaita, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, James Tomkins, ???, ???, ???, ???
The centre back vote was close, there was only 17 votes in it between Scott Dann and James Tomkins. I think Sakho wouldve come closer had he been available for even only 20 more games or so.
Next up is central midfielders. Obviously there are players that have played across the midfield. If your player wins this vote, they cant be including in any other polls. But if they dont, theres a chance to vote for them in them polls. Eg. Jeffrey Schlupp is in the central mid and the winger poll.
As with the central defender vote, please only choose TWO OPTIONS.
Ive had messages asking me to do other decade awards such as Player of the decade, goal of the decade etc. Im keen to do it but just putting the feelers out there, would people be keen, or is it milking it a bit? :D
