Home cinema experts?

dimanche 31 décembre 2017

Thought this would be the best section for this but we are looking at a variety of options for upgrading a smallish cinema room (6 seats) that we gave up our garage for a while back. Pretty sure some of you will know a lot more than me so....

We are interested in upgrading our projector to 4K HDR and I will come back to that later if that’s OK. We ‘may’ also upgrade to Atmos from the 7.2 we have today. It’s all sounding a lot more expensive than we expected but would rather look at doing it ‘properly once now’ if we can so we can just enjoy it rather than do it incrementally. Can’t take it with you etc once we have added it all up we can downgrade components to fit what feels good value. We have had an Oppo 95 and had planned to upgrade to their best new model but are being pushed to look seriously at a Kaleidescape system. Basically a proprietary system comprising hard drives/Blu-ray player, digital shop that sells legit Blu-ray downloads etc. At 4K hdr or anything below. The idea that this would be used for the blockbuster ‘showoff’ Movies but other sources for the run of the mill stuff.

So long intro but I thought I could add further questions later if there are gurus out there.

1 - My first question is that iTunes have 4K movies but does anyone know how they differ from say the 4K hdr Blu-ray. I.e. are they cut down versions? I noticed that the 4kHDR Blu-ray cost about £25-30 and on Kaleidescape can sometimes be over £33. But iTunes are nothing like that currently.

2 - does anyone on here have Kaleidescape and if so what do you think?

3 - considering 3 different Sony projectors. The new laser one and the 2 models below that. So quite a price variance. Anyone know anything useful about these? The laser is pricey (cheap comparatively in am assured) but doesn’t have the hassle of bulbs and dimming etc over time and sounds remarkable by all accounts. If we do that it may trade off against quality of sound upgrades though.

Any insights welcomed. As info also being suggested we swap out our Anthem DV2 for an Arcam something or other. :) sheesh. :)

Happy New Year

Off out soon, so.thought i would get in early.
To all the friends I have met on the BBS and to all the friends I am yet to meet, to all of you that have kindly helped me with tickets when I was in need, to all of you that play and help at the 6 a side and to everyone who posts in the Bbs that makes it what it is. I wish you all a very happy new year and every happiness for 2018.

Martin Kelly what a performance

Has played well when used all year , apart from the mistake against Swansea(I think I have the right game ).The time has come to play him as center back .He always looks solid when the ball is in front of him and not when he is being run at by a winger .Dann a great player has reached a level he can only go down from .Sako and Tompkins are goood but tend to get injured ,Kelly must be the 1st choice center back the other rotate .

If Hodgson can use Kelly the rest of season as center back ,then its like we have signed a £15m centerback,

Same applies to Fosu-Mensah and Riedewald both showed today they must be used more .

Suggested Team and Formation For: Southampton 2nd jan 2018

----------------------- Hennessey -------------------------

Tfm---------------tomkins------ Kelly -------- Pva---------------

--------------Riedewald----( Cabaye or Rlc )-----Milivojevic--------------

Townsend-----------------------------------------------------Zaha

----------------------------- Benteke ------------------------------------

Discussion: Who will leave the club in January?

It has crossed my mind that there could be a few departures rather than focusing on arrivals.

Suggestion: Pontus Jansson

A centre half has surely become a priority now, he's been getting rave reviews up at Leeds. Good on the ball and good defender.

With Leeds looking to get promotion they'll probably have a good hold of him. But the possibility of playing Premier League football regularly may entice him.

Left footed and at a good age to be here for a few years.

We can do this

Two tough games in space of few days and got one point. I bet many wasn’t expecting us to get any. Shame we didn’t get three today but the confidence must be immense that we stopped Man City who score for fun.

Now we just need one more massive performance against Southampton. Get a win there and the first team can have a nice 10 day break. Get some transfers on early doors and play reserves against Brighton in cup. Then onwards and upwards when the leaguer resumes

Player Ratings And Reviews: vs Manchester City

Hit the snooze button 3 times today so woke up at 11:45. Got to watch the game from the Maestro view today, can’t say I enjoyed it. First game missed at Selhurst this season

Hennessey did well today. Kicking helps
TFM motm dunno why he doesn’t start
PVA people hate him but a solid defensive performance
Tomkins Mr Reliable
Dann/Kelly solid
Riedewald should start more now. The Dutch boys were class
Cabaye class
Luka been poor all season. Not the player of last season.
Wilf did ok
Benteke closed down more today and got some reward from it
Townsend can’t fault him

Does Luka’s penalty miss mean it’ll relegate us like Benteke’s miss??? Townsend took a good penalty at Spurs. Got to say having been involved with the match thread there are so many Palace fans that hate our players. There’s a few I don’t rate like we all do but I don’t hate any. The hate Benteke gets is nasty. People were actually saying Dann’s injury is Benteke’s fault! People taking digs at Puncheon before he kicked a ball. Real shit show some of our “fans”

Absolutely gutted with the result. I’ll appreciate this point in a week or 2 but feels like a loss right now

Help box office saying its closed

Anyone got another number.

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

You have posted over 2000 times with just 19 posts in GCC all the rest in the Palace forums since 2010 without any problems you have never got involved in politics or threads about Islam

Yesterday you posted one very uncharacteristic post which you were instantly banned for by another Mod.

(There's no place for Islam in our country)

Which I felt was a tad over the top, it looked cut and past.

As you have been banned I cannot contact you by PM

Bucket collection outside the ground: Man City

There will be a bucket collection outside the ground tomorrow for Contact - a wonderful charity who support families with disabled children. If you can't, please donate.

(In case you missed it, last season I cycled to and from every match - over 7,100 miles - to raise money for this wonderful cause.)

Interesting article about David Moss and his time at Celtic and Huddersfield.

Any pubs going to be open prior to the early sunday kick off vs Man City?

Does anyone know for sure if there will be any South Norwood pubs open 10/11am tomorrow?

Cherries? Holmesdale? Albert? Antic Goathouse?

Or is it a case of probably having to go to a Spoons elsewhere (Croydon, Penge, Streatham, Crystal Palace) for a pre ground pint and then heading to ground?

Jewelry etiquette

Is it a deadly sin to give an eternity ring as an engagement ring? The one I really like is apparently an eternity one ...

Young Celtic centre back. Looks he really good player. Highly rated. Could be a good replacement for Dann

Have we sacked this guy? I'm hoping we have!

Suggestion: Outstanding transfer window

Big Sam needs a left back PVA leaves
Pardew needs a big striker Benteke leaves

Roy finally fills the holes in our squad

Essentials

First team Goalkeeper
First team centre mid that can pass a football
At least one striker with the ability to work hard and move

Cream on the cake

Additional wide player

Awful Music at Palace

vendredi 29 décembre 2017

I know I know there are far more important things going on in the world-and at Palace for that matter, but the music has been steadily getting worse and worse.

I'm talking about the music before the game, at half time, and at full time.

In fact the full time music was the turd on the cake-it was some shit making reference to of all thing Arsenal FC!!!! Whoever choose that shit should be sacked. It's not the first time we've walked out of the stadium to that bollocks either.

If someone at the club reads this please sort it out. Put on some music most Palace fans actually like.

Suggestion: Ahmed Musa or Kelechi Iheanacho

Two players who cost £40m between them but have flopped at Leicester - perhaps due to lack of appearances? Leicester have too many strikers to keep them all happy (Slimani, Vardy, Okazaki, Ulloa plus these two all fighting for one striker spot) - To view the link you have to Register or Login

Both will want playing time before the World Cup. I'd take either and suspect they're available around the £15-£20m level even at today's inflated prices. Both can play wide and central and would be ideal foils for Benteke allowing Wilf out wide.

Leicester would not need to find a replacement so would be an option for an early January deal too.

Get Clyne too, Routledge maybe, what a dream team!!

Suggestion: Come home Cline

With Liverpool about to spend 22 million on a right back , Cline might be available at a reasonable price apparently . Not a priority position but IF his fitness/ injuries are ok and he still has fire in his belly ? then he is still a very good right back.

Frazier Campbell Article in Match Program.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Man City (home)

jeudi 28 décembre 2017

--------------------Speroni------------------------
TFM-------Tomkins---------Schlupp----------PVA
Townsend----Luka-------McArthur----------Zaha
---------------Sako-------Benteke---------------

As much pace at the back as possible. PVA and TFM to start definitely. Dann instead of Schlupp if wanting to keep it conventional, but I think he could do a job there with his pace. 2 wingers, and break from deep. Balls into box for Benteke who will murder their centre backs in the air.

"C-P-F-C", the dirge with the drum for the first 10 minutes - what a downer

Am I alone in finding the relentless, tuneless drum-bashing dirge of our opening 10 minutes' tonight (Arsenal game) of entrail-wringing boredom of a so-called "chant" based upon the fact that our club's initials are C-P-F-C, and of which the lyrics are "C-P-F-C" repeated endlessly until in a state of advanced zomboid coma, hardly brings the opening moments of a London Derby to an exciting opening?

It is rather like suggesting that a love-locked couple have Mendellsohn's Funeral March played at their wedding - for about 3 hours non-stop, with banging drum accompaniment.

How the so-called Fanatics get away with monopolising SP with their boring, dreary, tuneless, senseless droning is beyond me.

The only time anyone seems to express any joy at supporting the Palace at SP is when we score and we hardly need the Fanatics to remind us that we have scroed a goal, nor that it was not thanks to 23 minutes of non-stop, drum-accompanied "SE25" or "CPFC" Zombie atonement which inspired the team.

When you go away to support the Palace and are free of the tyranny of the Fanatics and their boring drum and mindless Zombie dirges, you realise how exciting the players must find it hearing the fans urge them on to do us proud - and recently that's exactly what they did.

Tragically, the Fanatics and their ghatsly drum made an appearance at Swansea but at half time it was removed to some far-flung toilet or other so most of us could get back to genuine singing and chanting and supporting the team.

Team of the 80s better than this first XI

Talking to my dad this evening and his view is that the team of the 80's was a better collective than this team. Discuss.

Christian Benteke hide and seek...will he ever find a cross!

Some good crosses at around 80 mins and everytime he's hiding behind a defender!

We won't be in bottom 3 even if beaten by city and Bournemouth win, as west ham don't play till the tue then the Thurs.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Arsenal (Home)

Struggled when Cabaye went off but another strong finish. Deserved a point I thought.

Poor Mourinho not given enough funds to win the PL

A measly £300 million is not enough in Mourinho's eyes to win the league.

Of all the people to complain about budget!! No Mourinho its you who is the problem, 75 million on average Lukaku, 90 mil on Pogba, 35 mill on some bit rate defender from Norway or Sweden.

Never his fault though, the mans a ******* liability

Phil Alexander

Apologies I couldn’t see a thread on him specifically, so thought I’d create one for this.

What does he ACTUALLY do? He must be rated by people as he seems to have been around for countless regimes and kept on through administrations etc.

I know he’s meant to deal with negotiations but we seem quite flawed in this area, is this down to him? Also what Little I understand the Hy Money saga raises serious questions about his character.

Anyway I’m curious to be enlightened by any more knowledgable than I on what ‘Teflon’ Phil actually does?

Best central midfielder we’ve ever had ( Debateable..but not for me) Are we waiting to see if we are 100% safe before offering him something maybe?

European clubs can talk to him from Saturday. And I do feel Rudi at Marseille will be all over him, winning the league toghther few years back.
In that team our own Pap and also Eden Hazard who has also just set up at team in US with Demba Ba and Yohan. Will he go to US!?

So many questions I know, but I think this will be his last 6 months fo us. Shame..We should relish it because again for me 1 of the best I’ve watched on a Saturday at Selhurst.

European Super League

Probably AATOT somewhere back but thought it worth raising again with the ludicrous Van Dijk transfer.

With the obscene amounts of money sloshing around in the top ends of football at the moment and the increasing focus on marketing overseas against local community representation, I for one can not wait for the inevitable European Super League to come into play. Find it difficult to get on board with the Premier League train and the sooner the big 5 (can't see Spurs being a part of it!) break away and leave the better IMO. Football can go back to the fans and clubs can begin to represent their communities a lot more whilst the Football League might just become a competition again rather than a process of treading water and feeding off the scraps of the elite clubs.

Will be interesting to see when this does happen as I am sure it is an inevitability, and what it would mean for clubs such as ours who are left over. Can't imagine there would be a great deal of clamour to snap up the TV rights to the remaining clubs so would imagine the money would tail off somewhat. Would be interested as well as to what it would mean for the domestic cups and whether a renewed European Cup (knockout as per the old days) would begin. Bring it on I say!

Did we nearly sign Shearer?

I have a vague recollection that we nearly signed him when Southampton did. Is that right?

Question about AC adapters (interchangeability)

I have a new appliance which takes 6 AAA batteries, or it can use an overpriced AC adapter. I don't happen to have that many AAA batteries, but the house is crawling in AC adapters.

My question: how interchangeable are AC adapters? What is the critical constraint?

When I look at the official one it specifies an output of 9v, 1.6A, 14.4W.

I'm assuming the voltage is pretty critical and I've got a couple that output 9v, but they say only 300mA or 600mA on them (and nothing about Watts, but that's a function of current and voltage anyway).

Is it reasonable to assume that anything that specifies 9v and anything <=1.6A will be ok?

Van Aanholt

I rather appreciate him

What's the consensus?

New fire TV (4k)

mardi 26 décembre 2017

Just wondered if anyone had bought the new New fire TV (4k) yet? I bought what I think was perhaps the second version, the (square 1080 version or higher ?) but was thinking about adding another one and noticed it has changed now.

If I have understood it correctly you can use the microusb port to either add a power supply OR an Ethernet adapter that supports wired ethernet. I do need to add wired ethernet and as the device is unlikely to plug straight into a TV I think I probably need to add a power supply as well (Unless I misunderstand something). It isn't obvious how I can do both. Does anyone know if that is possible?

.....And relax.

Two Xbox’s

We already own and original Xbox One and for Christmas we bought our son and Xbox One S. At the moment we have one gamer tag and XBL account that we all use to play our games but now we have two Xbox’s I don’t think it is possible for my kids to play games with each other but on different consoles.
I created a new gamer tag for my son and linked it to the main account but I am assuming I will need to pay for another subscription to XBL before I can sign in with both accounts and play online. Also I am unsure about the library of games as they will have been purchased using the main account so my son won’t have access to them under his gamer tag.
I tried to set one Xbox has the home console and to log into the other but that didn’t seem to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have reached out to Xbox on twitter but they haven’t been too helpful yet.

Who else is bored?

Christmas without children is shite.

Discussion: Transfer window Jan 2018

I know every time we sit here and say it can't be as rubbish again but what do we think our Transfer Window will score out of 10 this time ?
eg last time, we got Sakho but were left massively exposed so I would give it a 3/10 which is about normal for Palace ? Last Jan was 6/10 ?

What do we think this time. Surely we can't do a 'Palace' this time ?!! ;)

Rumour: Matt Targett

Report in the Mirror that should Patrick van Aanholt leave for Everton, Palace are targetting Matt Targett from Southampton as his replacement. He's a decent young full back having played for the England Under 20 and 21 teams. Roy knows him well and I think he would be a great addition.

Concerts You’ve Walked Out Of?

Ones you went to with great anticipation of being entertained but turned out to be dreadful, forcing you to walk?

I went to see Jake Thackray at The Stables in Wavendon. It would’ve been late on in his career - around mid-90s. I loved his stuff. Lyrically so clever, that guttural, gritty delivery and his peculiarly brilliant guitar style.

Unfortunately, things didn’t turn out as I’d expected. He was standing in the auditorium with Cleo Laine pre-concert - mingling. He was wearing a blazer, shirt and tie and cream slacks. I was a good ten feet away, so cannot be sure, but it looked like he had a significantly sized wet stain around the flies area, so this rang the first alarm bell, with the concern that he wasn’t shooting straight in the urinals.

The actual performance rang the second one. The guitar sounded out of tune, he was struggling to make it through the songs vocally, and I wondered if he’d make it through to the interval, so unsteady was his performance. I just wish I’d seen him in his heyday - mid to late ‘60s, when he was so brilliant.

The interval came, and then wife and me just had to leave. Being seated not far from the front, I felt guilty about the two empty seats he’d see before him on his return, but I just couldn’t face any more.

Christmas Greetings

I though this would be nice.

Lets get together here on Christmas Eve, and wish each other well, regardless of our politics and other affiliations. We are all fragile flawed individuals, but we are all human and we depend on each other.

So...

A very Merry Christmas to all, and a happy and prosperous new year.

Time to update how penalties are awarded.

We have the ridiculous situation where week after week the main talking point on MOTD seems to be penalties.

This season we have the crackdown on simulation where the player gets a penalty by diving. but really this doesnt imo go far enough. What we need is not more draconian punishment for simulation but a re-evaluation of what a penalty is.

Some of the pundits continually trot out the "there was contact so it was a penalty" line.

I think it's time the decision is made on "did the defender impede the attacker". This would mean where there is contact but the attacker has started falling before contact then it's not a penalty. It also would mean where the attacker deliberately makes contact with the defender ie by sticking his leg out to make contact, this would not be a penalty.

In my opinion neither RLC or Dele Ali should have been awarded pens this week.

Christmas Palace Thoughts

samedi 23 décembre 2017

Of course some of the draws we've had have been frustrating, not the least of which was the most recent result against Swansea. But, let's look at the bigger picture. We've recovered from an absolute nightmare start to this campaign. I ridiculed Roy Hodgson being named the manager and so did many of you. But, the results speak for themselves. We've turned it around under Roy. We look hard to beat, a real professional outfit now. So, frustrations aside, we've got every chance to stay up and who knows, maybe some joy coming up. Merry Christmas to everyone at the club and all the supporters. COYP!

Being an Executor

Over to the BBS for free legal advice :hi:

When my mum and dad died we sort of sorted their estate out between us siblings. Everything was split four ways Easy peasy.

I've been appointed as executor to one of my wife's uncles. His wife died ten years back and he has no kids. He's just been moved to a hospice and has been given a week or so to live.

Now he clearly can't take care of his own affairs at the moment but I have no power of attorney while he's still alive. Or do I? Can I go into his house and dig out all the relevant documents? I know for example that he has copies of his will along with his wishes for funeral arrangements. Or do I have to wait until he passes away?

Do I have to alert his solicitor now? He's made a proper will with seven or eight equal beneficiaries.

And when he does die, as for the other beneficiaries, do they just have to suck up what I decide to do? Most of them I've never even met. Say, for example, I accept £x for the house and they think I should have got £x+y. They can't sue me for their paper loss? I don't really want to set up some email group where everyone has a veto. It's going to be long winded enough as it is.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Swansea sack Clement

Hopefully no bounce for them on Saturday....:(

Rumour: Sam Johnstone

Thought there would already be a thread on this but can't see one. Sam is on loan at Villa from Man U and keeping an impressive number of clean sheets. Sun says we are interested at 5 million in Jan as his loan can be ended then as a recall or sale. Much younger than what we have and the last player we got from Man U turned out well. We need two keepers if we are to raise our level and he sounds like he could be excellent backup. Henn may be interested in going to Chris C at Sunderland and we might be interested in Kone.

If it wasn't for politics, would everyone on the bbs get on .

I personally think political threads on here turn people into raving lunatics . Some I wouldn't want to be in the same room as .. So if we took the politics off of here , would we all get along

Council tax going up again

So the austerity years continue to unravel with the Communities Secretary announcing yesterday that all councils would be able to raise council tax by up to 2.99% next year to fund local services, which is 1% more than this year.

In addition, 152 councils, which includes all London boroughs and county councils, will be able to increase it by an additional 3% precept to fund social care services.

On top of this police and crime commissioners will be able to raise an additional precept of £12.

I think that probably accounts for all the £500 increase in the nil % tax band.

On the singing front, I'm particularly proud as a Palace fan that we've not adopted the current Earth Wind & Fire "September" skit that all other 91 clubs seem to have done in lightening quick time.

The club who actually started it must feel hugely plundered. Anyone know who it was?
It's daylight robbery compared to the odd steals of GAO going on here and there.

I’d just love it for CPFC to enjoy a great day so players and fans alike can spoil their New Years Eve with a win and some proper fan support.

It is a form of fan flattery to copy another club’s anthemic song but it sorted of pissed me right off tonight.

Crystal Ball Mid-Season Crystal Ball: What will be our final position?

lundi 18 décembre 2017

This is the traditional thread at this time of year. You simply need to vote to say where you believe we will finish.

By all means post your thoughts on the thread if you want to, but to score points in the Crystal Ball competition you must vote in the attached poll, because that's what will be used to record who voted for the winning position - 5 points if you get it spot on, or 2 points if you are one position out.

There is, of course, a deadline, which is before we start the second half of the season. As we have already played 18 league games, just one more, namely the away match at Swansea, gets us to half way. Hence, your vote has to be recorded on the poll before the second half of the season gets under way - so, before we kick off against Arsenal.

And if you want to recall how you voted in the same poll pre-season, you can find out here: To view the link you have to Register or Login

If you then click on any of the vote numbers, it will then display the names of everyone's votes for all the positions.

It is hardly black and white minstrels. I think they have gone overboard a bit on this one.

We're the best team in the league in 2nd half stoppage time

Today (it's still Saturday for me :p) marks the 4th time this season that we've scored in 2nd half stoppage time.

If you only counted goals scored after the 90th minute, we'd be on 26 points, with 4 wins, 14 draws, and 0 defeats. This would be 5 points clear of 2nd!

Even when actually considering the rest of the match, of the four goals we've scored at the death, two have turned draws into wins, and one has turned a loss into a draw for a net gain of 5 points in stoppage time for the season (7 if Benteke hadn't missed that penalty). If Benteke hadn't missed, we'd have stoppage time goals in three consecutive matches.

Goes to show the character of the squad to still be going forward even at the end of the match. Come to think of it - it also shows how dodgy we are right before halftime!

As I'm feeling bored, I've decided to compile a league table based solely on 2nd half stoppage time goals.
Watford by far had the most "stuff" happening after 90 minutes - result-changing goals, cards, penalties, you name it. Never leave a Watford match early!
By contrast, Leicester City and Brighton have the most boring match conclusions (even the one goal Leicester conceded against us didn't affect the match result). Feel free to go home when the 4th official's board goes up. (Dis)Honourable mentions go to Stoke and Swansea - they at least get late bookings.
Only Everton v Arsenal produced a scoring draw, as both teams scored in 2nd half stoppage time on 22 Oct. Everton v. Watford (5 Nov) had a chance, but Cleverley missed a penalty in the 101st minute!
Palace and Watford have both missed penalties in 2nd half stoppage time, which would have put them on 28 and 22 points if they had scored.
I didn't calculate 1st half stoppage time results, but from a cursory look I can speculate that Man Utd and Leicester are the kings of that category, and we might be bottom of that table!

I'll consider keeping this updated if it's still relevant to us (in other words, if we're still at/near the top of the table).

Suggested Team and Formation For: Swansea 23rd december

Same starting 11 that beat Leicester for me

Crazy/silly/weird stuff you did as a kid

Any stories about nonsensical acts you did as a child or a story from someone else’s childhood. It’s a strange time of life when your brain has no social filter and little common sense and do stuff that as an adult, would have you locked up.

When I was about 8 we had relatives over for Sunday lunch. My mum had fried some chips and there was quite a few left over by the end of the evening in a Pyrex dish. They were a bit cold so I placed the dish on the hob to heat them up. Luckily I stepped outside with my mum to wave my relatives goodbye at the front door while they were heating up. Next second...BOOM!! A massive explosion making all my family jump and shout out expletives and rush back in to see what had happened. Looking back, my mum’s face was one of relief as she looked at the broken and very sharp shards of Pyrex strewn across the kitchen, probably thinking what could’ve happened had I been stood next to the thing. The rest of the family just queued up to call me an ‘idiot’ in turn.

When I was about 4 or 5 in P1, me and another friend for some reason thought it would be fun whilst out of class on an errand to get all our class friends coats hanging up on pegs outside the class and bury them in the red buckets of sand that used to sit outside each classroom door. Returned back to class all chuffed like nothing had happened. Then that horrible sweaty impending doom as the crime is discovered; the teachers start to freak and slowly but surely they work out who it was. I was never one to own up early doors in the hope that somehow I’d get away with it. You never do.

Not proud of this one. Again, can’t have been older than 6. Sat cross legged on the floor in class with the whole class listening to our teacher read a story at the end of the day. There was a kid in my class with a massive Afro and he wasn’t the brightest shall we say. Well I was sat behind him and suddenly noticed a tray of coloured pencils within reaching distance. Of course, the obvious thing to do was to start threading these pencils one by one through this poor kids hair. My mates were in hysterics which of course made me carry on with my bit of live art even more. By the end of the story it just looked ridiculous. He must’ve had at least 10 coloured pencils hanging from his head. The kid - still totally unaware - proceeded to get up and make his way to the other side of the class to get his bag and coat for home. The sight of him walking across the room oblivious of the multicoloured pencil nest in his hair was, I’m ashamed to say, pant wettingly hilarious at the time. Of course it wasn’t long until one of the more mature girls noticed and grassed me up. Bloody do gooders!

I’m sure you guys have got some better entertaining stories than those...

Bin the black kit

Yay or nay?

Hardest actor

Who would you vote the hardest actor?
I never thought anyone would rival Clint, but after watching Tom Hardy in Taboo and Peaky he must be up there.

Martin atkinson

We always hear it when the ref does a crap job, so why not give it large when he does a great job. Sure, he missed the def pk on benteke, but he saw the push on tomkins and the dive from that ndidi guy. If he'd missed one of those two, it would've changed the game.
Hears to more good refereeing.

CPFC Christmas Presents.

I can post this because my boy doesn't read these forums. He doesn't read much at all really apart from The Advertiser, the programme, FYP and Whizzer and Chips...oh hang on..that was me...well anyhoo, one of his presents I've got him was a book dating back to 1905 up until about 2013 filled with back pages of tabloids.
You get to put an inscription on the front page. I had...'when I was a young boy my father said to me...listen here my son, you're CPFC'
I really like it and I wouldn't mind it myself.

What Palace pressies have you bought?

What A Manager We've Got!

A local lad like all of us and a brilliant manager.
Can't quite believe our luck in snagging him.
Hope his contract has an extention option.
Allardyce who???

Player Ratings And Reviews: Leicester (away)

We absolutely dominated from start to finish, even ignoring the red card for them we deserved to win by at least 3 and probably more.

Speroni 7 One smart save

Schlupp 7 Kept Mahrez quiet
Dann 7 solid
Tomkins 6 nothing to do
Kelly 6 professional

RLC Superb, and almost mom. Such strength running with the ball
McArthur 7 his energy is superb for the balance of the team
Cabaye 7 Very very good
Townsend 8 Best crosser at the club by a mile. Superb assist

Zaha 8 silky, great finish for his goal
Benteke 9 Saving the best till last. Worked hard, great pass to Wilf and scored. Should have had pen.

Riedewald N/A
Sako 7 Well taken goal

Forget about relegation. It’s time to dust down your passports. I honestly don't think people know how good this side is.

New Palace club record set today!

Well, well, well. Another club record set today, although I didn’t hear if it’s a CPFC club Premier league record or a all time top flight record - most games (7) undefeated.

Whichever it is, well done Roy, the management and all the squad. Unbelievable after the negative record we set when the season started.

Discussion: Players out this January window

We will need to free up space & wages this January. Who do you think should go?

I'll assume Mutch & CYL are top of everyones list. After that for me:

One of the left backs. Best case scenario Sam comes in for PVA but if it were Schlupp or Souare I wouldn't mind too much

Puncheon. I would like to see him come good again at Palace but it's looking pretty unlikely. I'm sure he could fins his feet again in The Championship, and if he found his way back to Palace in some role in years to come I'd be glad to see him back

Your Most Played Song?

Throughout your musical life. Do you have one song/piece of music you know you have played more than any other and why?

Mine is Souvenir by OMD. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve played it. The melody, beauty and the ambience of it haunts me and I’ve never tired of it. Got me through bad times and enhanced the good ones.

Fixture Information FA Youth Cup Fourth Round: Newcastle United (H) Friday 19th January 7pm

I'm reliably informed that the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup is on Friday 19/1 at 7pm at Selhurst.

Told that Adult ticket prices are to be £10 with a slight discount for STH/Members. I find that pricing appalling and urge the club to reconsider.

Your Local non-league teams

Rumour: Guido Carilla

Rumours tonight that the 26year old Argentinian Monaco forward is a serious target. His recent form reveals 5 goals in 9 appearances.

Your Game Of The Year.

I won't do a poll because I can't be arsed. And I'm not very good at it.

For me it is a toss up between BOTW and Super Mario Odyssey.
BOTW for me but only just. SMO was almost equally fantastic.
Rocket League is up there too.

The Transfer window

Just over 2 weeks until the transfer window opens, we all know we NEED A STRIKER but when will we get our man , day 1 to give us the best possible fighting chance , week 2 , a couple of games have passed us by or the last day of the window in typical Palace style, if we're serious about giving Roy the best chance of staying in the premier league then we will have things already lined up but this is Palace and nothing ever comes easy or runs smoothly , personally I think Roys got someone lined up under the radar , we'll hopefully anyway

High Cholesterol - have/did you?

As I hit the big 40 earlier in the year, I was encouraged to go for the NHS MoT which i did. This showed up that my cholesterol was high and I should book an app with the doc. Anyhow, appointment done etc and she said that my level was 7.7 which is high but not massively high (they give tablets for 10 - 20) with my risk of heart attack at 3.4% in the next 10 years.

I’m sure it’s a common theme as we all get older and have to look at our lifestyle, what we eat and drink etc.

Do/did you have high cholesterol and how do you control it?

TIA

Famous Palace Fans

jeudi 14 décembre 2017

Was randomly thinking about celebs and what not supporting Palace.
I found out that Timothy Spall and Rafe Spall are Palace fans.

Humble Bundle

Been done before.

But I have bought from them before and now they keep giving me free games.

Anybody else experiencing these pleasing occurances.

Just got given Company of Heroes 2. I think that is freebie 4 or 5 in the last six months.

I havent bought anything from them for over a year.

2018 World Darts Championship

It starts tonight and goes until New Years Day with the usual break over Christmas and on New Years Eve.

In case you have somehow managed to avoid it, this will be Phil Taylor's last before retiring. I think he will get to quarter finals but is then likely to play Gary Anderson and it will be hard for him to win that. He did win the Matchplay in July so can't ruled out.

I think that Michael van Gerwen will win again. He was off form in the middle of the year but since October has won the European Championship, World Series Finals, Grand Slam and Players Championship Finals. He starts tonight against Chrsitian Kist.

I think the others to look out for who have had a good year are UK Open champion Peter Wright, Grand Prix winner Daryl Gurney and European Championship runner up Rob Cross.

Discussion: Will Sakho injury affect what we spend

With the injury to Sakho and with Tomkins/Dann regularly picking up knocks, strains , do you think this will affect the amount we could spend on targets in January .
Personally I thought we needed a keeper , striker ( not a target man ) and decent cover for Zaha / Townsend . Now I feel we need a decent centre back as we could be relying on Kelly and Delaney . Not sure we will have sufficient budget to cover 4 players - even if we were lucky enough to get clubs to release decent players .

Crystal Ball Leicester away

Rumour: PVA to Everton

PVA to Everton for £8m. More than just an Allardyce links and Everton only have 1 recognised left back in Baines who has been struggling with a hamstring injury.

Sea of Thieves

Thought there was a thread on this but couldn't find one.

Has anyone else been selected for the Technical Alpha?

I've access from tomorrow til Wednesday, so will be taking to the high seas as much as possible if anyone wants to hook up on there.

Me hearties, pieces of eight hahargh...etc. etc.

Car Insurance

My wife has just been run in to by another car, the guy refused to give any details, said it wasn;t his fault (defnitely was as he came out of a side road and hit the side of her car at the rear). Is there a way I can check if he is insured or not?

What a way to spend a night in London...

mercredi 13 décembre 2017

Staying at the Hilton in Wembley ahead of a work conference tomorrow, complete with a few Brighton fans and the players! Could be an interesting breakfast! Eating out as we speak and earlier had to endure anti palace songs from Sussex wannabes!

Hy Money

Have people picked up on Hy Money's Facebook page (Hyacinth Daniels) yet and her apparent long standing bullying by certain authorities within the Club (its detailed on her page) which has been going on for ten years and apparently at last night's game she was banned (according to her Facebook) from the Malcolm Allison Lounge, publicly humiliated and security were called to have her removed after she asked them for a reason as to why she was banned?

It doesn't sound good at all and for a woman who has very much been a part of the Palace fabric for many decades.

Match Updates: Tonight’s games and updates

After the drama of last night in our game and we’ve now climbed our way to 4th from bottom, another load of games tonight which could massively affect us. Just the three points away from Brighton now too. There’s normally at least one game, if not more that don’t go our way but should be an interesting evening.

It’s strange that all our rivals tonight are placed against one of the ‘big’ teams. Horrible to say, but come on Spurs, Man City, Man Utd (spit!), Liverpool & Arsenal.

Palace U18's and Palace U23's Top Their Leagues

Both Palace U23's and Palace U18's are now top of their respective Leagues which shows what a good job Richard Shaw and Paddy McCarthy are doing as their managers.

Palace have some very good players in waiting if they need cover for the first team.

COYP

So who admits they left early last night

Okay, so who admits that they left early last night when we were losing one nil?

And when did you find out that we had won?

Discussion: Players who need matches to get in World Cup squads

When reading the Giroud thread I was thinking this should be the type of player we go after in jan. Trying to come up with a good list

Olivier Giroud
Michi batshuayi
Gerard Defoulu
Hatem Ben-Arfa
Thomas Vermaelen
Maoroane Fellani

Advice needed- work related (wages)

I thought I would turn to the bbs for wisdom.

I started a job two and a half weeks ago and all currently training and in probabtion, I am due to be paid next week however I have a slight issue. I took the job on quite low pay as needed to provide and it was something however I've now been offered a job to start tomorrow at a lot more money and really cannot turn it down can the company I've been at refuse to pay me?

Official Palace Subbuteo Set

Does anyone know if an official Palace Subbuteo set exists?

I've had a good look on Google and can only seem to find retro ones from back in the 1970's on Ebay.

My son is getting Subbuteo for Christmas from my father in law who is a Man U fan and as you would expect there is an official Man U set which he will inevitably get him as part of his attempts to turn him into a United supporter which of course I will do my utmost to destroy over the festive period!!!

The closest I can find for this season is:

This guy has almost single handed led AZ Alkmaar into second place in the Eredivisie. An attacking midfielder who can create and has an eye for goal, exactly what we lack when at home and Wilf double marked out of the game.

Take a look, could be a real steal ...

'Taking One For The Team. '

mardi 12 décembre 2017

I am beginning to hate this phrase.

It used to be called the'professional foul' and it didnt seem so insidious then . Why? Because it seems to me they were the exception then. Now,and I realise we may be guilty at times ourselves if we leave our club allegiances out of it a I am sure we are guilty at times that it has become a team tactic to be extolled by press and the ex players infesting commentary boxes

It now seems to me that if all players participate with a couple, ie rotate, in each game and especially if you keep targetting the oppos best ball players thus stay out of a referees notebook you can effectively neuter a teams attacking threat. What has changed is the level of sophistication involved. The types include blocking off third party runners, chops from behind like Cleverlys tonight and grabbing shirts from behind not to mention sly trips when you've been beaten especially when a break is threatened.

I now think that refs should get tougher just as they did for two footed challenges. Not just because he was ex manuscum and we benefitted, but I think Lee Mason showed true guts tonight. It was 87 minutes and deep in our half. Some people would have rationalised it as routine, and not in a dangerous area. Also some might argued and I dont know the stats that Cleverly had only committed his customary couple of fouls. Mason though cautioned him for the intent and deliberation behind the foul knowing Cleverley would have to walk and I applaud for football and as I say I like to think, for the good of the game and not just Palace.

Referencing us as I have to, Everton committed 26 files of which probably about 20 were of this type and a good proportion were on Wilf. Doing the maths I reckon more than the 3 players should have been cautioned on the totting up rules and some should have been walking on eggshells by halftime. MY view

If A PLAYER IS PREPARED TO TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM THE REF SHOULDNT DISAPPOINT if he knows it wasnt just an accident.

I like a move tthat Rugby refs take if they think fouling to stop th op has become a tactic. He tells the captain that the next offence of that nature will see that man sin-binned irrespective of how many fouls by THAT player. Now we don have sin bins in football , surely if you havwe a yellow lready or are on 4 for the season and big games coming up , would you do it. And if not would that no open up the game

I repeat

If A PLAYER IS PREPARED TO TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM THE REF SHOULDNT DISAPPOINT if he knows it wasnt just an accident.

Your thoughts

Dear Mr.Hodgson..

..Wilfred Zaha is one of the best wingers in the Premier League. As you can see from this evening, when he plays wide he is magic. Please leave him there.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek got huge praise playing for England against Germany in the 'no.10' role. Please play him there.

Many thanks,

Palace fans.

Any Watford here?

Do we have any Watford visitors to these boards?

Zaha is a genius

What he did for the second goal was sublime. From the position he starts.

Hero.

State of Affairs

Wanted to say hello as a new registrant to the forum.
Here in Vancouver, we are fortunate enough to see every EPL game on TV, live and free...those TV rights pay dividends for some! As a supporter since 1957, and an ex pat since 1977, I have my share of Palace memories, good and bad, but now am grateful for the chance to relax in front of the big screen in the comfort of the living room to watch 38 Palace fixtures each season...it has been years since I have been able to be at Selhurst to see a game, but I did see the game v the MLS Whitecaps here last year.
Your forum is a great place to be, offering people the chance to comment when they couldn't otherwise hope to do so, living too far from the terraces! I hope to learn from you all in the months ahead.
Here are my thoughts on the current state of affairs:
Sad that the EPL has been allowed, through lack of spending controls, to become so unbalanced. The elite spenders hope to compete with one another for an english title in a 'mini European division', whilst the remaining 13 -14 clubs struggle to avoid the drop and financial disaster! Contrary to what the TV personalities tell us every week, that is not a formula for a world class league or for great entertainment value!? In 1962 tickets were £0.4.0d...(that's 4 'shillings') Better value than the current £40+
The strategy of executing 500-600 passes in a game, whilst surely intended to put the opposition to sleep, seems doomed to fail, when the opposition smears their shirts with smelling salts in order to stay awake... its usually a real snooze fest for everyone in the stands, and for me at home!
That said....I can't miss a Palace game! My uncle's ashes were scattered at the Holmesdale Rd end in the middle '60s, it's in my blood. I want them to succeed. But, for the most part, in this current stint in the EPL, the product on the pitch just hasn't been and remains, not quite class enough. Someone here said that we have no leaders and they're right. Too few players seem to want the ball, know what to do with it when they get it, or in which direction it would be best to kick it! We loose 80% of 50:50 balls, don't display many of the basic soccer skills (like trapping the ball) and most 'give' but don't 'go'....and often get the ball passed right back to them anyway! Very creative!!??
Anyway, I'm keeping the faith, will be there in spirit tomorrow for the Watford game, (if the pitch isn't frozen out) and hoping they get the win!

The Experience Machine (philosophical poser)

Would you plug-in to The Experience Machine?

You can pick any and all aspects of your life. Eat great food, never work, sleep with a different supermodel every day, watch your favourite sports team win it all, live in your dream home. All perfectly simulated... but not real.

You can even simulate your existing life, with minor improvements, and once you're in the machine, you won't even know you've manipulated those improvements... but again... it's not real.

Or you can stick with your real life.

What would you do?

To view the link you have to Register or Login

The Experience Machine or Pleasure Machine is a thought experiment put forward by philosopher Robert Nozick in his 1974 book Anarchy, State, and Utopia. It is one of the best known attempts to refute ethical hedonism, and does so by imagining a choice between everyday reality and an apparently preferable simulated reality.

If the primary thesis of hedonism is that "pleasure is the good", then any component of life that is not pleasurable does nothing directly to increase one's well-being. This is a view held by many value theorists, but most famously by some classical utilitarians. Nozick attacks the thesis by means of a thought experiment. If he can show that there is something other than pleasure that has value and thereby increases our well-being, then hedonism is defeated.

The thought experiment
Nozick asks us to imagine a machine that could give us whatever desirable or pleasurable experiences we could want. Psychologists have figured out a way to stimulate a person's brain to induce pleasurable experiences that the subject could not distinguish from those he would have apart from the machine. He then asks, if given the choice, would we prefer the machine to real life?

Nozick also believes that if pleasure were the only intrinsic value, people would have an overriding reason to be hooked up to an "experience machine," which would produce favorable sensations.

Rumour: Daniel Lopez

The Mirror tonight suggest that Espanyol goalkeeper Daniel Lopez will be targetted in January. Whilst he has won the European Cup twice, at 36 such a signing could only be a short term measure and the rumour must be Agent talk surely.
