Times you've sat/stood in the non-Palace end at a match

dimanche 31 janvier 2016

Anyone done this before? It's been a while for me but it did happen in consecutive weeks for me (and others) back in 1994-95 when all-seater stadiums were being (re)built.

Also Ipswich away in 1992 when we drew 2-2 - made more interesting when a few Palace in front of me cheered a Nigel Martyn penalty save and the reaction and beating they took meant I kept my mouth shut for the whole game - politely clapping when Ipswich scored.

What's your preferred ettiquette? Let everyone know you're a Palace fan or keep your mouth shut and smile at the right times?

American's first London visit

Boston's most fervent Palace fan (no big feat unfortunately) is visiting London for the first time this late August for my friend's wedding. Turning it into a full 10 night's stay though. Flight booked, waiting on a possible hotel deal or possible airbnb. So I need to get into Selhurst obviously and I'll be around consecutive weekends so should get a chance. Is the international supporter package that allows me to buy tickets to one match the way to go?

Any other advice and support welcomed as well. I plan to try to avoid tourist activities as much as possible. Would rather like to spend a lot of the time as a jobless Londoner with an alcohol problem might... though the wife may have a say in that. She wants to take the Eurostar to Paris for a day or two but I'd rather take that time to get out of the city to the south coast or something but we'll see. Thanks for any advice, feeling trepidation as I don't want to be an awful tourist.

Does anyone buy a porn mag any more?

I can't see why unless there was some satisfaction of sticking the pages together so the mag would end up like a slab of wood.

The enigma that is HMRC

I'm at a bit of a loss.
I got my own tax assessment in on time, or was going to get a fine. I'm self-employed with about a £30,000 turnover per year.

BUT, with recent happenings in my mind, it has brought things into focus a bit for me.

Questions :

How much inheritance tax did Maggie Thatch's family pay ? Oh, wait , that was all in off-shore companies

How much inheritance tax did David Cameron pay from his parents ? Oh, hang on a minute, let me guess,....

How much tax do you think the Blair family pay ? Call me cynical, but I'm guessing it's less than me

Lewis Hamilton,...resident of Monaco ?

Harry Rednapp,..taken to court for tax evasion for hiding over £1M in Monaco.
His defence was "ohhh, I forgot",,..and bvgger me, he got away with it. How ?

Then Google.

This Sunday I had an informed discussion with an ex employee of HMRC. He was on the investigative team, gaining evidence for prosecution against (multi-) national companies.
He said it was very frustrating. On many occasions he had enough evidence to bring cases to court, when he was suddenly called into his boss's office and told to 'drop the case' (no reason given)

Does anyone else feel they are being sh1t upon by idiots with inherited power/wealth ?

Does anyone buy a newspaper anymore

Years ago on the way to work, pop in the newsagents packet of fags, box of matches and a paper.
With all the freeby papers around now, Metro in the morning and the Standard at night.
I haven't bought one in years to be honest, not even any of the Sundays.

Man Shoots Himself in Wallington

Police have sealed off Ross Parade in Wallington. Apparently a man armed with a gun was confronted by police last night and shot himself. Looks like The 'Spoons is still open.

Upper Norwood / Palace Triangle area gossip

We discuss Penge/Anerley and Croydon on here. And what about our ancestral homeland ?

In latest news, the redevelopment of the old Crystal Palace site by the Chinese developers seems well and truly dead.

Some of us are still shocked at the closure of our Barclays branch. :(

The Crystal Palace Overground festival 2016 has been cancelled.

Winter Tyres?

Just looking for a bit of advice from people who have driven in Europe at this
time of year please. I am driving to Italy (near Verona) in a weeks time. Route is taking me through France and straight into Italy, avoiding Switzerland.

Winter tyres are "recommended" by online advice sites but as l will be keeping to main roads all the way there l am hoping that they will be kept clear where possible. l am hoping to not have to shell out for 4 new tyres if l can help it. Or what about snow chains? Buy a set just in case?

Any advice appreciated (Flying is not an option)

Seattle

I'm off to Seattle next week for few days anyone got any tips regarding what to do and see whilst there ?
Planning to watch Superbowl in a bar so if anyone can recommend a good one that would be great

Palace - Fantastic Fans, Fantastic Club - a thank you

Just before Christmas my daughter Lucy was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Leukaemia. She is a Palace fan and I am a season ticket holder who has followed the club since 1971.

We want to thank all those who so generously donated to our bucket collection at the Stoke game. If you did not have the chance you can make a contribution at her just giving page. Go to the just giving website and she is then lucy-angierAML.

We are fund raising for Anthony Nolan. They match people with those who are in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant. Lucy is fortunate in that her brother is a match for her but others are not so lucky. We have met one girl whose father is Italian and mother Thai. It is proving much more difficult to get a genetic match for her.

If as many people as possible can volunteer to be tested it increases the chance of a match. The test is a spit test. Donating in most cases is just a matter of giving blood.

The Club's support for us has been tremendous. Steve Browlet pulled the right strings. Terry Byfield did an excellent piece at half-time.

It is quite expensive to do the testing required and register people appropriatly. Anthony Nolan support people from 16-30 to be tested. If you are over 30 go to 'Delete Blood Cancer UK'. Both have website you can google.

We are still in the process of counting the money but it looks like we will have sufficient to potentially save over 15 lives.

All in all a fantastic afternoon and even the team did its bit by winning!

Terry Wogan RIP

Sad news this morning. Lost his battle with cancer.

Suggestion: Oliver Burke

Very young but lots and lots of potential.

===============================
146:

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

Player Ratings And Reviews: Stoke (Cup - home)

Hennessey 6 Faultless handling. Not much to do actually

Souare 6 Solid enough. Mixed bag going forward
Delaney 5 Not as solid as usual?
Dann 6 Did ok
Ward 7 Looked bright going forward

Ledley 6 Much better than the last game
Cabaye 6 Average for him. Carrying an injury?

Chungy 7 Bright, and some good touches. Decent squad player
Puncheon 5 Again disappoints. One good header in first half and pass in second half aside.
Zaha 9 MOM Head and shoulders above the rest. Skill, picking out people, finishing, workrate. Won us the game. Faultless.

Campbell 6 The scores for him will vary wildly. Whilst he missed 3 decent chances his all-round game was decent. Worked hard, has pace and could have had their defender sent off on another day.

Subs

Jedinak 5 And that's generous. So slow and ponderous. I think he might be done, and I love him.
Mutch 4 He just completely disappeared and we lost the midfield on his watch. He's finished here now surely, one decent tackle aside.
Chamakh N/A Some good touches apart from messing up what should have been a goal. Looked better than he has done for a while, but still heavy.

Pardew was brave with his team selection bringing in Chungy for Mcarthur and putting Puncheon in the hole and it paid off thanks to Zaha, our best player yet again. But we are badly short of quality in reserve. Whilst we played ok in parts, we lost the midfield in the 2nd half and were lucky to hold out I felt. But we are through and that's the main thing. Disappointed with the size of the crowd despite good prices and lack of streams. We need some new signings I feel, especially a genuine top class No10 who can run in behind and score to take us to the next level. Tuesday will be interesting.

Palace U18s 2 Charlton U18s 1

After a couple of recent heavy heavy defeats, the visit of free scoring league leaders Charlton was the last thing Palace needed today. But Palace produced their best performance of the season in front of a decent sized crowd which included Shaw and Bright.

As expected Charlton started strongly and were in control in the early stages but the Palace back 4 stood up to the test well and the only real scare when when CB Sam Woods had to head off of his own line.
Palace grew into the game and took the lead in the 17th minute when good work down the right (as there was all game from RB Hossanh and wide right midfielder Lumeka) led to a cross which wide left man Hungbo met at back post with shot across keeper into the net.

The goal gave Palace confidence and had a period of ascendency during which CM Hogan moved the ball well and Palace almost doubled the lead when LB Sturgess crossed to back post and ball was just too high for head of Lumeka. Hungbo also side footed over from a Hogan cross.

The visitors came back strongly as the half progressed. A brave Akiotu header cleared a dangerous FK. But Palace were dangerous on the break and a two on one ended when Hungo crossed for CF trialist from Chelsea Malaki (unsure of surname) to turn and shoot, but keeper tipped it over bar.

Charlton pressure told in 40th minute when they equalised via a lovely sweeping move which ended with their LB curling home a sweet shot from 15 yards.

LB Sturgess went off injured at HT and he was replaced by Jalen Jones who himself was only sub as was not 100% fit.

Charlton were well on top for early period of 2nd half which saw Palace keeper save bravely at feet of CF, a last ditch tackle from RB Hossanh prevent a goal and a close range effort clip the top of Palace crossbar.

To their credit Palace grew into the half and came on strongly from the hour mark onwards. LB Akiotu floated over a lovely crosss that Phillps met with strong header which produced a top save from the Charlton keeper. Then Lumeka missed an open goaql, side footing wide from 7 yards out from a low Hossanh cross and a surging run took Phillips through but his shot hit keepers feet.

The goal eventually came for Palace. Hossanh played a decent ball out of defence to Lumeka. He played a clever ball into run of CF Malakai. He showed strength to hold off the much bigger CB and then produced a nice finish whith a strong shot across keeper into the net.

Palace almost scored soon after when a looping Woods header from a corner was headed off of line.

Palace were fairly confortable holding onto lead and only scare was a shot from 25 yards that flew narrowly wide.

A great win. Strong team performance. MOM Hossanh at rB whose defending is fast improving to match the prowess he already had on the ball going forwards. Defensive unti very strong and sure. Competed for every ball and won majority so hats off to Akiotu, Woods and Jones (who is impressive ball playing CB).
Central Midfield unit of Phillips, Hogan and trialist from Spurs solid and got on top eventually of away midfield. Wide men Hungbo and Lumeka were threat all afternoon and did their defensive work which is clearly not something they enjoy! CF trialis from Chelsea Malaki was half the size of the CBs but battled for every ball and eventually got his reward. A big leap froward from recent performances. Clearly inspired by playing local rivals. Hope they can match performance next time out!

Suggestion: Everyone

We should sign everyone. If we miss out on anyone, they might do well elsewhere.

Also, we should give all our existing players new contracts, in case they go somewhere else, and do well.

British Transport Police

Had my iPad and wallet stolen on the train between Newcastle and Darlington yesterday. These guys don't get much credit - some people think they are a bit plastic - but they have been brilliant with me so far.

If there are any Palace fans who work for BPT...keep up the good work.

For a club our size...

Do we have the most amount of blogs, podcasts and fanzines? Every week another pops up, not necessarily a bad thing but some are simply aggregators that post the same story from various other news sites and one even asked people to click on ad's to generate cash a while ago.

For me the best and ones worth reading: FYP/FYP pod, a The eagles beak and Holland radio.

Proudest Day - Junior Beagle Born

Proudest day - Junior Eagle born.

I don't overly regulatory post on these boards, nor is it likely many/any of you will know me. A few of you will have come across me between 2003-2012 whilst I held a season ticket and made the regular 500 mile round trip to watch the palace at home, amongst many other away games and mad trips that I made. However I have felt compelled to post my news of the birth of my little boy, a new junior eagle today. He will have no choice but to follow in his dad's footsteps, despite my other half being a spurs fan (absolutely no chance). Couldn't be prouder.

Man Utd (A) - 12th March 2016

Just an early heads up for people, home fans are being told when booking tickets that there is a very high chance the fixture date for this game will be changed. I'd assume if Utd are still in the Europa League then it'll get moved to the Sunday, if FA Cup fixtures get in the way as well then this could be moved to mid week.

Kenny Sansom on Jeremy Kyle Show

Wasn't sure in which category I should post this.

I just came across this:

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Might be worth a watch.

A few things to take from it:
  • Jeremy should have stayed on Virgin (Now Absolute) Radio.
As suggested in the article, Kenny obviously agreed to go on the show, but was it right that he was treated as such by the show?
Does Kenny actually want to be helped?
Does Kenny actually want to get better?

Surprise surprise, UEFA in big club bias shocker...

With the threat of little old Leicester getting into the Champions League and Manc United/Chelscum missing out, they are talking about proposals so that 'big clubs' don't miss out in future.

For example: "Past winners would be guaranteed a place in the competition"

Match Ticket Information Leicester City Home March 19th

I'm sorry for sounding thick, but I don't buy tickets that often !

When can I buy guest tickets for this match?
Are they on sale now?
How many per season ticket will I be able to buy?
Will I need to buy tickets for another game with these?
Have Palace said whether this is a 'A' or 'B' game yet?

Thanks

Rumour: Kieran Gibbs

To view the link you have to Register or Login

"Gibbs has started just two Premier League games all season and is now in danger of missing out on selection for England’s European Championship squad.

Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Swansea are among the clubs monitoring Gibbs’ situation, but the player will wait until the summer to make any decisions about his long-term future."

Were transfers more exciting in the old days?

Today's transfer windows in my opinion are nowhere near as exciting as the old system, They cause media frenzy and levels of expectation through rumour, generally rarely realised and often disappointing the fans. Clubs at the top or bottom particularly are pressured to buy and then regret their decisions. Prices are hugely inflated. Oh for the days when someone was signed out of the blue without the slightest indication, at any time, and the close season featured the odd whisper, as teams dabbled in the market.

Record with and without Bolasie

Just seen this on social media.

Games this season where Bolasie has played:

Won: 8
Drawn: 2
Lost: 6

Points per game: 1.63

Hasnt played:

Won: 1
Drawn: 2
Lost : 4

Points per game: 0.71

Obviously small sample size and other factors play a part. Only 35 mins vs Chelsea for example (although he did turn the game around). But even so its a pretty alarming stat. In fact the only game we won without Yannick was at home to bottom of the league.

Is he now our most important player?

Overcrowding South East

Over the last few years my town (comfortable, leafy, Surrey) has had a large amount of new houses built (more to come), the journey into London by train has gone off the scale regarding overcrowding and doctors surgery and schools bursting at the seams (compared to t'old days) and flats have gone through the roof re price (interestingly only really in the last 12m).

The South East is obviously going to get more crowded over the next few years so do we think this is an issue and if so can or should anything be done ? Or is it a case of Surrey NIMBYs being NIMBYs and lets face it there's masses more capacity ?

Murder Games...

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Watched this tonight with my wife and little boy. Bloody harrowing stuff. If anybody is not aware of the murder that it is about, then a 14 year boy from Caterham was effectively groomed and then conned into travelling over to Essex to meet some 18 year old who then murdered him.

Some chilling bits in it and kudos to the kids parents and his mates for agreeing to be interviewed about it.

Always been a bit wary about the internet and how you let your kids interact online because there has been nothing to really guide us given that my kids were probably the first generation for whom broadband was a fact of life.

Certainly a lot of food for thought.

Of course, the odds of having your own child being involved with a nut-job like this murderer are astronomical but it was scary to hear the police officers involved talk about how many grooming cases they are having to deal with now.

Match Updates: Liverpool - Stoke (League Cup SF)

Currently 0-1 but 1-1 on agg, which is what we want. Extra time.

I don't think away goals rule counts but can anyone confirm?

Late Tackles

Watching the Liverpool v Stoke game and the bit where Walters got through and shot across the face of goal, it got me thinking about late tackles. Most places on the pitch, if a player has already played the ball and then gets hit late by an opponent it's a free kick and very likely a yellow card. Yet somehow, if someone shoots and then gets hit late it is ignored. It's a licence for defenders to have a free shot at a forward with no punishment. Logically there's no real reason why the Sakho challenge on Walters shouldn't have resulted in a penalty.

I must be bored!

Reporting Away Fans In Home Stands

At the Tottenham game we (AW Block W) were pretty much surrounded by Tottenham fans - esp row 31 from what I could see.

As much as I don't like it, I can appreciate someone sitting there and watching their team in silence, standing up to celebrate and you take what you get. It did kick off a few times, and stewards did attend.

Anyway - is there a mechanism for reporting seats containing Away fans??

I'm not even sure how an away fan would get a ticket for the game given all the A/B stipulations.

Alternatively its season ticket holders passing their tickets on - and if that's the case, then I think maybe a stern word from the club is needed.

Murray Bendtner or Adebayor

If you were Parish and could find the lost cheque book who would you sign out of

Glenn Murray

Emmanuel Adebayor

Nicklas Bendtner

Or Moo that great non league prodigy

Suggestion: Bradley Dack

Young attacking midfielder that scores goals. Got to be worth a punt. Regarded as the best player in the league

Goalscorers rushing into the goal to fetch the ball

This seems to be more and more the norm, week in week out. Not so long ago it seemed this sort of behaviour was confined to cup ties where the favourite was losing and time was precious.
Now we see it when a premier league team equalizes against another in balanced, run of the mill, matches.
Personally I find it really irritating (and not just against Palace). It usually sparks a petty shoving match 'flare up' at a time when the scorer should just enjoy a celebration with the crowd. If the ref is doing his job and stops the watch when the goal is scores, its also completely unnecessary. Isn't it time the football authorities clamped down on it? Only the GK should be allowed to retrieve the ball, but if he takes too long the ref deals with it by a yellow card, end of.

Rumour: Sébastien Haller

Apparently linked with French U-21 striker Sébastien Haller who currently plays for Utrecht.

The goals from: Strikers are not the problem

It is highly possible that signing either Bendtner or Adebayor will have very little impact on our ability to score goals.
The problem is not the personnel but imho our preferred playing style.
Two players shielding the back four along with two players employed almost exclusively as wide players is not a recipe to provide our strikers with an endless stream of chances.
We have for several seasons been in desperate need for a creative midfield playmaker.......we break the bank to sign one and then choose to play him in a role that affords him a top 5 place in the interception stats but no where on the assists stats!!!!!!!
I can only guess that the reason for playing two defensive midfield players shielding the back four is the fact that we have not yet addressed the issue that we have a real lack of pace and mobility at the core of our defence.......for me this is the issue that needs addressing in the market with far greater urgency than than our need for a striker.
We are extremely lucky to have two wide players that excite and exhilarate with their trickery and unpredictability but perhaps not so delighted if you are the sole striker starved of early crosses to feed on in the box.
We break the bank again to sign a striker and then ask him to play with his back to the oppositions goal for the majority of the 90 minutes...he is not built to then turn, beat a few defenders with pace or trickery and then we are surprised by his poor goal return.
IMHO the answer does not lie in the signing of a new striker but a quality centre half.....resulting in trusting the shielding of the back four to one player and not two, in turn allowing Cabaye to play further forward to dictate play additionallly allowing Gayle to join Wickham in a two prong attack with all the numerous attacking benefits this would bring and asking especially when playing at home both Bolasie and Zaha to vary their distribution from almost exclusively running with the ball to an occasional early ball into the box...where two strikers will be occupying the opposing defence.....No place for Puncheon unfortunately but a 442 that would excite, take the game to the opposition and create numerous chances.....

The glaziers What's going on?

samedi 23 janvier 2016

As each match goes by the Glaziers gets worse what the hell is the club doing about it?

1. The majority of the bar staff are useless with no idea how to operate the tills and it's comical to watch them pour pints. Would sir like a pint of froth???

2. Where the hell have all the tables and chairs gone? The main area gets more sparse by the game.

Surely it's not too much to ask for the bar staff to know how to pour a pint and for the tables and chairs that were there at the start of the season to still be there.

The simple lack of urgency

This is probably the first rant thread I have ever posted, ever! I am usually one to keep my opinions to myself but this one cannot wait, it is truly unacceptable. It is the 24th of January and we still have not ******* signed a striker yet!

Why are we yet again leaving it til the deadline?! It has cost us once again! Our strikers have managed zero goals from open play all season and the solitary goal we ******* scored was a penalty! Why wasn't the alarm bells ringing?! :veryangry

All the teams that were struggling up front have gone and brought in strikers! If we are not signing a hot shot like Batshuayi, even somebody like Ulloa, Naismith, even resigning Cameron Jerome would be underwhelming but he is a hell of alot better than what we have now! I have never understood we never push the boat out for strikers! It's always been a problem for us in the Premier League, we should be trying to sign the likes of Batshuayi or Remy! We are an attractive club! Every other position we have has been filled with way better quality than the first year except for the strikeforce which has progressively gotten worse! We were 6th riding on goals coming from elsewhere! We aren't an unattractive proposition, it should be easy to bring in a decent striker! Yet we are lumbered with looking at ******* Bendtner and Adebayor!

I thought this small club mentality had ended when we signed Cabaye, appears it hasn't!!

Sort it out Palace!!

Afobe, Naismith, Austin

All of them scored for their new clubs today.
Any of them could have been players we should have signed.

After the Stoke game we were poised to do something amazing this season. A once in a generation opportunity because of the failings of Scousers Man.Ure etc. Everyone knows we have needed a striker for ages. So why weren't we ready to do deals like any of these clubs?

A golden opportunity missed and now we are scrapping to salvage something for the season.

Parish get your wallet out. You have spoken many times about previous generations not building on opportunities. Yet every transfer window feels like a panic.
Why?

Suggestion: Abel Hernandez

Would surely be a better punt than Bendtner? Not mentioned yet, Hull striker, scored 16 this season I believe (including today vs Fulham).

Thoughts?

Semi serious discussion...

...before posting this, I'll just say - I'm fully behind Pardew and I felt we were unlucky today - despite the poor run, 3 of our last 4 losses have been against Chelsea, City and Spurs and I'd say that the Swansea and Villa games are the only ones that have really been a big surprise and disappointment since Xmas.

I hate knee jerk reactions of any form and football fans are the worst for them - the doom and gloom did get me thinking though: without a win in 6 in the league, off the back of 4 straight defeats, with only 1 goal scored - an OG (excepting the cup of course), what would it take for Pardew's position to be considered by the board at this stage?

I think 8th/9th in the league is about par for us, but I imagine the only scenario which would leave to Pardew leaving is relegation - which I cannot see happening. That said, our next 4 in the league are Bournemouth, Swansea, Watford and West Brom - what if we go winless in Feb?

I'll say again - I'm absolutely not saying that Pardew's position should be questioned at all - I just wondered what other people's view on this would be.

Discussion: Realistically What Money Is Available For January Transfers

Without selling before buying I suspect that Palace have very limited funds for transfers in the January transfer window due to FFP limitations and certainly a lot less than the total cost of the majority of the players linked with the club.

Palace were doing fine before being hit with a spate of injuries to their forwards which in turn has halted their progress and the goals have dried up.

This however is a problem that will be resolved once the injured players return to the side especially Yannick Bolasie whom so much of their counter attacking style is channeled through as he is so difficult to contain due his skill, pace and body strength.

Palace will have to bite the bullet until he returns as a like for like replacement would cost millions.

Palace's forwards may not have contributed many goals but their efforts have resulted in many set-pieces including penalties, free-kicks and corners being won that have resulted in goals for their midfield players and defenders.

Currently it is very unrealistic for fans to expect Palace to sign big money players but this will not always be the case as the club grows and increases its own generated income which will then allow a bigger budget for transfers and player's wages under the terms of FFP which some clubs do not seem to worry about breaching or the consequences of doing so.

Time will tell.

Rumour: Lewis Dunk

Yes folks, Lewis 'own goal' Dunk has been linked with a move to Palace.

Today's South London Press (print edition) reports that Dunk has been watched by Palace as Hangeland and Delaney are out of contract this summer. Only last summer Brighton turned down a £5 million bid from Fulham.

Why so many this year? alot of players seem to have been effected

Directors Box Season Tickets 2016/17

Gerald Williams RIP

I have just heard this evening (Thur 21st) that former BBC tennis commentator and pundit Gerald Williams (remember his TV partnership at Wimbledon with Des Lynam) has passed away aged 86.

Gerry's connection with Palace is that for a number of years in the 1950s he was a sports reporter with the Croydon Advertiser and covered many many Palace matches. Certainly he reported on the first ever floodlit friendly at Selhurst Park against Chelsea in September 1953.

In my opinion he set the standard that John Matthews and David McClelland followed for reporting on Palace for the Advertiser. I was also fortunate to briefly meet him when Palace played at Swansea in 2009 - I assume he had retired to his native Wales.

I had also heard (and would therefore like confirmed) that he was also once a matchday announcer over the tannoy at Selhurst Park.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.

Jerome Binnom-Williams has returned to Palace after playing 19 games for Burton Albion, but wasnt selected by new manager Nigel Clough.

He is under 21 so could be used outside of the 25 man squad, but with Souare as our only recognised Left Back, one would hope he would be kept around if we dont sign anyone this window. At worst loaned to a Championship club. JBW and Kai Kai seem to be the most likely to break through, but we are weak at left back so maybe he is more likely.

Anyone have any intel on how he is viewed at the club?

Rumour: Palace ace Williams lined up for MK Dons loan

Quote:

HITC Sport understands Crystal Palace midfielder could be set for another loan move to the Championship, this time with MK Dons instead of Nottingham Forest.

MK Dons have lined up a loan move for Crystal Palace midfielder Jonny Williams, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Williams was recalled from his loan spell at Nottingham Forest at the beginning of January two weeks ealier than expected due to the injury problems at Selhurst Park.

The 22-year-old mde an appearance as a late substitute in the 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea, but he has not featured since that game.

The classy midfielder, who has made 55 appearances for Palace since breaking into the first-team in 2011, is well down the pecking order in Alan Pardew's plans and the Palace boss is thought to be willing to loan him out again.

Williams made 10 appearances during his loan spell at Forest and he was loaned to Ipswich Town three times in space of a year from February 2014 to April 2015.

A number of Champinship clubs are understod to have expressed an interest in signing Williams on loan during this month's transfer window, but MK Dons are in pole position to land him.

Ethernet sockets.

Can anyone give me some advice on (roughly) how much it would cost to get these installed?

I'm currently using the internet in my study via wireless, which means my downloads are a lot slower than they would be if I had a wired connection (the router is downstairs). I've tried homeplugs before but they weren't ideal because the wiring in our house isn't apparently great.

Rather than run a massively long cable around the skirting, up the stairs and so forth, I was thinking it might be easier to install a socket downstairs, take it outside the house and then back in to my study via another installed cable and socket (it's a 3 bedroom terrace and the two rooms are on top of each other).

Anyone done this before? Is it fairly straightforward? I'm not great with electrics so am contemplating getting someone in to do it but don't want to have to break the bank ideally.

I've tried doing a VLOOKUP but it doesn't seem to work.

TIA.

Palace - one of the 30 richest clubs in the world

Deloittes report for 2014 / 2015 season just out - doesn't show precise position but Palace are in the top 30, and as West Ham are shown at 20 with £122.4 mill revenue we wont be too far off that.

Discussion: What Attacking mid shall we sign??

We have one for a striker so why not one for a number 10. I personally think it's the biggest issue at moment. Punch hasn't hit the form he did last year and we need someone that can link up with Cabaye, chip in with some goals and create some! Someone in the mould of Eriksen would be ideal IMO

Running thread

I couldn't see a suitable thread and the search brought up very little of any relevance.

I've not run since I played football regularly maybe some 12 years ago and even then that was not through choice.

I've decided to start with a view to improving fitness first and foremost and to lose some weight.

I've started off just going out for a 20 minute session each time and doing a walk-run 1:30 walk 1min run. I'm getting through about 3km in that time so pretty slow going but I just wondered if there are any war stories from people starting running or any advice to keep me going/running kit etc?

Seems as though the security personnel prevented this from being much worse.

Why is it that terrorists go for such targets ? How can such an assault garner anything other that complete condemnation ? Attack a military base or even some sort of crucial part of a nations infrastructure and whilst still a terrible act, at least it can be seen as part of a wider, military, campaign.

But killing students ? How on earth do they think that will move any cause forward ?

Suggested Team and Formation For: Spurs - Wickham and Gayle up front

Given our poor run of results recently and with our injuries, if Gayle is fit for Saturday, why not try 4-4-2 or even 4-1-3-2 What have we got to lose? I think Gayle works best off a big mobile target man. When we had AJ and Shipps, Shipps was not the most mobile of men, but he created shed loads of space for the pacey AJ.

Not a dissimilar situation today with these two. We have had 5 league games with one up top. No goals, 8 conceded. AP knows this has to change, and we need an alternative formation at home, in fact an alternative formation altogether to cope with our injuries to wide players.

So how about it? Usual back 5 of past few games, despite WH errors, he is due another break for me.

Then place McArthur or Ledley as DM (Macca for me) and have Lee and Zaha wide of Cabaye with CW and Gayley upfront. Gayley has defensive capabilities and can slot back if needs be, but I think Spurs CB's are vulnerable to direct pace.

Just my thoughts. Hope AP is reading this board.

COYP.

Wickham & Gayle

Right. Bear with me. After the frustration of the transfer window so far & the realisation that Adebayor is probably going to be the striker coming in...I've been doing a bit of thinking.

Most will probably have noticed that Pardew has favoured 442 at home over the past couple of months - best exhibited vs Newcastle with Wickham setting up goals galore & Yannick playing off him & causing havoc.

Now, should Gayle not go this window - I personally would love to see Gayle play off of Wickham with Yannick back out wide with Wilf. I think we've seen glimpse of what Gayle can do when playing off of a big man - the famous Crystanbul & Burnley last season with Murray.

What do others think? I think Gayle has goals & we've never seen the very best of him due to not playing to his strengths. This could be his opportunity.

Crystal Pepsi relaunch in the summer?

Why can't we cross very well ?

Serious question.

9 times out of 10 when we get into a decent crossing position we either bang it towards the opposite corner flag or pea roller it to the first defender and I think this is a major contributing factor to our lack of goals these last 5 games.

That, along with the fact we don't shoot much, don't shoot on target, have hardly had a striker fit and don't have anyone who can slip a ball through behind a defence !!!

I looked at Leighton Baines yesterday, yes Baines, and he gets in a great position on the overlap and crosses it at knee height. Terry doesn't know whether to piss or shit and bundles it into his own net.

I just feel we're letting ourselves down and making things appear worse than they may be.

Is Zaha down on pace?

As everyone on the BBS knows, I am his biggest fan. He is working hard tracking back. The effort is there. The skill is still there. We even saw a couple of good crosses. But what on earth is going on with his running? Tackled by Di Michellis with a 3 yard headstart. Always slowing it down. Never running into space or wanting to sprint past slow defenders. Has he lost his pace or can he just not be bothered to use the speed he still has? Or is he carrying an injury? Would be interested to hear the views, because I am concerned.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Spurs (home)

Gotta move on from yesterday now. Need a point or 3 to kickstart a run. A point at home to Spurs really isn't a bad result and one I'd definitely take right now. Team I'd like to see. Bit of a weird one. McCarthy deserves his chance again now, so does Speroni but he hasn't played since May. That back 4 was such a good defence for us for a long time in 2013/2014. Two centre mids picks itself to be honest, even if they haven't performed lately. Zaha & Puncheon also under performing. Souares crossing is hit and miss but he'd give Ward more protection and it could work out with no Bolasie & Sako. A lot of the team are underperforming so not a lot of them really deserve game time but can't make too many chances to a crop of players that started our season so well. A point at home would be good IMO, I'll just be happy to see us score right now

McCarthy
Mariappa Dann Delaney Ward
Cabaye McArthur
Zaha Puncheon Souare
Wickham

Nick Chatterton

After reading the Phil Holder thread, it reminded me of Nicky Chatterton. Though he went on to play a long time for Millwall, as a small kid, he was one of the first players I remember, and living in Upper Norwood his dad Len, lived a couple of roads away from us and remember being starstruck seeing Nick in the neighbourhood once or twice. He had a bit of a short fuse at times but I liked him and was disappointed when he left in the 78-79 season, but we did bring back Kember.

Memories anyone?

Source of Optimism: If we don't score the rest of the season I think we'll stay up

I've been accused of American naivete and being too optimistic on here saying we should aim for top 4.

In a time like this we need some American optimism tempered with the gloom I'm supposed to have being a palace fan.

I think if we don't score the rest of the season we will tie 3 games 0-0 and get 34 points and that will keep us up.

Anyone else agree?

(Actually if Gayle is on the squad next week I predict the team scores)

Typical Palace

Just when you thought it was safe to dream of mid-table safety and even Europe they bite you on the Arse and start flirting with relegation .

Too comfortable/not enough competition

Looks to me now some players look too comfortable with the role they have in the tam. We all know the run were on and how bad the performances are but who in the team has guruanteed start? Not enough good competition in the team. The goalkeeping issue is ridiculous. Pardew doesn't know his best goalkeeper IMO. We still don't have a goalscoring striker. Cabaye is having a poor start to year IMO as is McArthur. Honestly if we had picked up Cabaye for a couple of million I'd want him out the team currently. He is not doing enough. The hype and fee/wages associated with him isn't living up to its worth right now. McArthur looks burned out. Puncheons having a poor season and Zaha don't seem to turn it on unless Bolasie is on the pitch. In competition with each other. Souares defending at times is questionable to say the least. Ward will go from a 9 to a 4

We need a striker and a winger with end product before Spurs game and Pardew has to earn his money and motivate the team

GK ??
Ward? Dann CB ?? LB ??
Cabaye McArthur
RW ?? CAM ?? Bolasie

Parking ticket

As a boiler breakdown engineer parking is always a battle and i get a few tickets now and again, some i fight some i'll pay if i'm wrong.

Last november i was changing a boiler in brixton .i did a pay by phone payment for a few hours which was nearly £15. I had to give the girl on the phone a new vehicle registration details. There was a cop helicopter overhead and she took down 1 digit wrong . 20 mins before the time ran out they sent me a text and i saw the mistake. went to the van, PCN on the window. I rang the paybyphone they amended the details and said download receipt and amendment and appeal. I have now done this twice, once straight away and once when i got the notice to owner and both have been rejected saying i paid for another vehicle.

(A) why the **** would i pay for another vehicle? The mistake is just common sense to understand, but they have me on a technicality. I can pay £65 now or go to the next level of appeal 3rd time.

What do people reckon? I shoudn't pay as a matter of principal because i paid for my parking, but technically they have me, it's hoping that at some point one of the appeal bods sees sense.

Spurs v Sunderland - who do you want to win?

For people who are pessimists a Spurs win as there is a less of a chance that we go down - for the optimists, a Sunderland win so we can try and finish above Spurs and get into Europe. Or a draw for the undecided.

Palace - the match stats 2015/16

Looking at To view the link you have to Register or Login I thought I would try to see where things haven't gone too well this season or well our strengths have been.

Summary
Possession: 46.9% (15th in the league)
Certainly an improvement on last year where we finished 20th with only 42.7%, but how much does it really mean to results when Leicester are currently 18th?

Pass Success: 75.3% (16th in the league)
Arsenal, Man City and Man Utd are top, with Leicester bottom with only 69.5% success

Aerials Won: 16 (9th in the league)
Villa are top here with 20, and Everton are last with 12.1

Defence
Tackles per game: 17.7 (17th in the league)
Surprised to see us so low here. Leicester top the table with 23. This stat probably is lowered the more a team keeps the ball, so Leicester being top but with very low possession isn't surprising. Man City are just above us in 16th but generally have a higher possession % in a game. However seeing we don't keep the ball that well, this is too low I would say.

Interceptions per game: 16.8 (10th in the league)
Again Leicester top the table with 22, Villa in 3rd, Arsenal 4th, but Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Everton are all in the bottom 5.

Fouls per game: 12.5 (2nd in the league)
Only Spurs give away more fouls than us. Bournemouth, Arsenal and Everton give away the least.

Offsides per game: 2.4 (5th in the league)
Stoke have the most in the league, Leicester have the least.

Attack
Shots per game: 12.1 (11th in the league)
Man City are top with more than 17 per game, Newcastle the least with 9.5

Shots on target per game: 4.2 (9th in the league)
Man City top, West Brom bottom.

Other
We're 4th in the league for hitting inaccurate long balls, 16th for accurate short passes and BOTTOM by quite some way for inaccurate short passes.

No surprise that we top the table with West Ham for the most blocked shots (5.1 per game) thanks to Dann and Delaney.

Situational Statistics
We have only scored 12 goals from open play - the third lowest in the league (Swansea and Villa below us)

We haven't scored an official counter attack goal for nearly 2 seasons now!

We are the 8th best team when it comes to scoring from set pieces.

Positional Statistics
I find this stat the most interesting, and what I personally blame for our current bad form and the lack of goals from strikers and in open play...

38% of our attacks come down the left.
39% down the right
23% down the middle - the lowest in the league by 2% (which is quite significant in the table)

Zaha and Bolasie - we're too reliant on something coming from them and don't play through the middle enough in my opinion.

Crystal Ball: Man City (a)

I really have no hope for this.

City 3 - 0 Palace

My season Ticket went walkabout

Yesterday before the Villa game I was looking for my Season Ticket Holder because I knew my Rail card and Debt Card was in there from when I used it at the Chelsea Home game but I couldn't find it.

I thought my son might have it so I didn't report it lost.

This afternoon I got Phone call from someone in Sutton saying he'd found it on top of a bin!!! He tracked me down on the net using my name and Palace connection and found my mobile number from somewhere.

All very good and I'm really grateful to him but where has it been for a week and a half as we drove in and out of Sainsburys and had it to get into the game.

If I dropped it after the game why did someone keep it for a week and a half then dump it.

Any thoughts
