It is highly possible that signing either Bendtner or Adebayor will have very little impact on our ability to score goals.
The problem is not the personnel but imho our preferred playing style.
Two players shielding the back four along with two players employed almost exclusively as wide players is not a recipe to provide our strikers with an endless stream of chances.
We have for several seasons been in desperate need for a creative midfield playmaker.......we break the bank to sign one and then choose to play him in a role that affords him a top 5 place in the interception stats but no where on the assists stats!!!!!!!
I can only guess that the reason for playing two defensive midfield players shielding the back four is the fact that we have not yet addressed the issue that we have a real lack of pace and mobility at the core of our defence.......for me this is the issue that needs addressing in the market with far greater urgency than than our need for a striker.
We are extremely lucky to have two wide players that excite and exhilarate with their trickery and unpredictability but perhaps not so delighted if you are the sole striker starved of early crosses to feed on in the box.
We break the bank again to sign a striker and then ask him to play with his back to the oppositions goal for the majority of the 90 minutes...he is not built to then turn, beat a few defenders with pace or trickery and then we are surprised by his poor goal return.
IMHO the answer does not lie in the signing of a new striker but a quality centre half.....resulting in trusting the shielding of the back four to one player and not two, in turn allowing Cabaye to play further forward to dictate play additionallly allowing Gayle to join Wickham in a two prong attack with all the numerous attacking benefits this would bring and asking especially when playing at home both Bolasie and Zaha to vary their distribution from almost exclusively running with the ball to an occasional early ball into the box...where two strikers will be occupying the opposing defence.....No place for Puncheon unfortunately but a 442 that would excite, take the game to the opposition and create numerous chances.....
