Happy New Year

Great last day of 2022 for us.

All the very best for us BBSers for 2023.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Tottenham (h) 04/01/23

First game of the new year. Easy one this time round I think. Same team.

Guaita
Clyne - Andersen - Guehi - Ward
Doucoure - Schlupp
Olise - Eze - Zaha
Ayew

I thought Hughes was good in his very limited cameo. I would probably still pick him ahead of Schlupp, but we know that won’t happen! :D Schlupp had a decent game.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Bournemouth (a) 31/12/22, 0-2 win

Poll to come.

Transferring tickets via friends and family function

I am trying to transfer a ticket to someone who I am connected to as a friend but the CPFC system is not letting me do it. Is this because I have added the ticket to my wallet? Any tips?

bournemouth game more meaning than people realise

If we cant beat teams like fulham after the attrocious last 2, several things will happen;

1 we will not attract the type or quality of players we require to move up the table

2 we will be facing tougher opposition in the coming games and therefore less chance of gaining points.

WE simply have to use these foundations we try to build. How many years did we go without a striker ? we had wilf and bolasie or wilf and andros up front. Imagine what could have been if we had invested in better in the past seasons.

Anyway im predicting a palace turn around performance and some points.

Council Tax Help

Hoping someone can advise me if at all possible.

I sold my flat and vacated in December 12th. I broke the chain so my buyer could move in before I completed on my new house.

My question is, do I cancel my council tax payment? The issue I have is I am yet to move into my new property. (Thought we’d be in before Christmas, hence the chain break!)

I don’t want to cancel the council tax and come off the electoral roll before I have moved into my new property (should have the keys for the new place next week) just in case this affects our mortgage in anyway.

Anyone have any advice? It’s not trivial but it’d be £200 saved!

Cheers.

Bournemouth team news ?

Obviously we have the two suspensions in Tomkins and Mitchell, injury wise Ferguson and McArthur are probably still out. Guehi will return and maybe Mateta.

Apparently Bournemouth have a virus which has ripped through their squad so could be a good time to play them.

I recently joined the Palace Superdraw. At half-time on Monday, I received an email stating I had won a prize. I followed the instructions and logged into my account. However in the prizes section it states, no prize to collect.
Can anyone advise whether they have had a similar issue please.
Could it be as it was Bank Holiday? There is no telephone number to contact, only an email address.
Many thanks

Suggestion: Scott McTominay

mardi 27 décembre 2022

We were linked with Donny Van de Beek but he would be a disaster for us. He is everything we don’t want - lightweight and ineffective. We need some proper steel and effort in centre mid. A trier, someone who will battle and fight. We have technical players already. I give you, ladies and gentleman, his teammate Scott McTominay. Way down the pecking order at Man Utd. 6’4”, works his arse off, calls out shit performances, and would leave everything out on the field.

That’s what we need if we are going to get out of this mess; a McArthur/Kouyate replacement rolled into one. Experienced at this level, can move, can put his body on the line. What’s not to like?

Clear out required in the summer AND new signings

The squad is rotten to the core. It’s not good enough to put low ball offers in and then keep faith with existing squad.

The following MUST go:
Ward - too old and slow
Clyne - de-Clyne is in reverse
Tomkins - better when he doesn’t play!
Milivojevic - too slow
Hughes - too slow
McArthur - old and injured

The jury is out on these:
Schlupp - not a footballer but an athlete
Eze - top player, supreme talent 1 in 10
Jairo - slow but can pass
Mateta - spider on rollerskates

We are going to need another window of summer 2021 proportions. The owners have been asleep at the wheel. We are going to need 2 right backs, a left back, 3 centre mids, 2 wingers and a striker. The last transfer window was negligent. Think we are in serious trouble. We need more Jordan Ayews, players who can move and will move. The side is static and lacks energy as well as pace. It’s worrying. We should stay up this season but the scale of the job required is vast. I hope that puts it into perspective for the owners because 1 new first teamer in every window won’t be enough. We can’t wait 4 years for the next decent window. We probably need to spend £100m+ if Zaha goes. Do they know the scale of what is required?

WTF didn't we go to a back 3 at 10 men?

lundi 26 décembre 2022

Take off Tomkins at 10 men for Ward or Jaïro .... We were at home FFS !

We won't get any better...

...playing Schlupp in central midfield.

It's absolutely baffling how someone (Vieira) has had 5 weeks (FIVE!) to look at this team and review our performances before the break.

We were toothless in midfield and most importantly for me, we lack any footballing intelligence and nouse in the middle. We need someone with an IQ above 10 and the ability to think creatively and one step ahead most other players on the pitch. We don't have that. Our players in the middle seem to be soft and dumb. Look at the VAR review today by the ref. Fulham immediately had 3 players within 2 meters of the ref, our bunch of wet blankets shuffle over, make no attempt to disrupt the Fulham players' influence and just politely watch - when will be become savvy and actually try to get the extra edge most teams have over us?

This guy in central midfield is now symbolic of where we are at.

You cannot tell me we will get any better as a side with Schlupp in central midfield, it's only going to get worse and worse. I want this guy out of our team, he's another hangover of the Hodgson Dross Era (along with Ayew) - please please please Palace get a proper central midfielder in and stop this dreadful experiment.

We all have other jobs, other things going on in our lives, yet all we need is 10 minutes at a game to see how painfully obvious it is that such a passive, ineffective midfield is sliding us down the league - I'm fed up with us not being able to control the middle of the pitch. Sorry to be crass, but does anyone else just think we're a bunch of pu**ies in the middle?

Suggested Team and Formation For: Bournemouth (a) 31/12/22

Guaita
Clyne - Andersen - Guehi - Riedewald
Milivojevic
Doucoure - Hughes
Olise - Edouard - Zaha

Butland, Richards, Ward, Schlupp, Ozoh, Eze, Ebiowei, Ayew, Gordon

Let’s play 3 actual central midfielders in central midfield. Doucoure and Hughes playing higher up with the willingness to press and win the ball high up the pitch.

Schlupp's annual wage could employ 85 nurses in the NHS

What has the world become?

Shower waste leak - question

The plumber finally finished installing the new shower this week, just in time for the kids to come home and Grandma to visit - hooray. It has been an unbelievably long haul. Unfortunately, Christmas evening we get a small swoosh of water dropping through the kitchen ceiling. So I think we can take it there is something he didn't actually test before moving on.

Fortunately (!!!) the overall job included a completely new ceiling/floor which has not yet been skimmed. I've whipped off the plasterboard underneath and can see that the waste is not fully sealed with the silicone they've used. It's just a drip, but of course that builds up and is no good at all.

Now my question is whether there is any advice about a reasonable short-term fix until the plumber comes back after Christmas (he has to do some other work on the heating in any case). I'm assuming the best permanent fix is to take the waste out and refit it afresh.

a) slather silicone on the underside
b) put a ring of silicone around the upper edge of the waste (which would have to be cleaned off the shower tray when the waste gets refitted).
c) gaffer tape
d) leave the plasterboard off and put a bowl underneath in the kitchen.

Need help getting to Boxing Day game from Kent

Hi everyone, hopefully this is the correct place for this thread - I am new to the forums.

I was supposed to be travelling up to the Fulham game tomorrow by car, but the driver is now sick and can't take us. If there is anyone driving up to the game from Kent (nearly anywhere will do, since I can at least get around within Kent fairly easily) and has some space in their car, I would really appreciate a lift to the game and back. Obviously, some remuneration would be forthcoming!

Thanks

Which thread will run longer - Wilf or Brexit

samedi 24 décembre 2022

I’m more of a reader, thinker and occasional contributor - see number of posts but I must say that the wide and varied threads, the tone, passion and at times even the virtual has for me made this forum a good source for views, entertainment and yes - at times inspiration.

Will the Brexit thread end? Will the Wilf thread outlive it it, no matter whether he leaves or stays? Posters picking up on grammar, some unbelievable views, intellectual insights and humour. A must read every day!

Well that’s my post for another few months.

Have a good one!

We're hosting this year (despite the fact I'm working tomorrow) and will be serving up Turkey crown, legs boned and rolled with sausage and apricot stuffing, roasties, carrots, parsnips, Brussels with chestnuts, yorkies (kill me), bread sauce and gravy- the base of which I made a few weeks ago.

Most importantly, I have vintage champagne to kick start proceedings with a seafood platter, numerous bottles of white and red burgundy, and some classic clarets. Perks of the job.

Any solicitors able to offer advice?

Hi

I have a friend who lives in s property she used to own with an ex-boyfriend over 10 years ago. By all accounts he was a bit of a nasty bit of work, saying he was divorced when he wasn't, making up stories about having cancer.

Anyhow they split up 10 years ago having been together about 3 years and my friend has lived on her own there since. He put 200K down, she 100k. They agreed that she would continue to live there for the foreseeable future, rather than force her to sell the property and to pay him back the 200k when her parents died (they are still alive but old). He probably agreed to that as he felt bad about the way he treated her. This was just a verbal contract, nothing in writing.

In the 10 years she has solely paid the mortgage (which I think is between 200-300k still) including some of the overall amount of loan, paid all the upkeep and maintenance, new bathrooms, new roof etc.

She has now had a letter from his solicitors asking for the 200k to be repaid now, otherwise they will ask for thr property to be forcefully sold and his monies taken out of the proceeds (the house is probably worth about 700k now). She has messaged him informing him of the original agreement but he hasn't responded.

Where does she stand?

Bowel Cancer

So for Christmas this year I start my first session of chemotherapy to treat bowel cancer this Friday 23rd Dec.

Not something I thought I’d ever be writing as a 39 year old, who is lean, fairly fit, a non smoker, not a big drinker and with a reasonable diet. I’m young, normal, married with a 4 year old and a 1 year old. It couldn’t happen to me right?!

There weren’t many warning signs for me at all. I started getting really noticeable abdominal / stomach pains this year Feb/March and slowly they got horrendous to the point I felt like I was being stabbed and couldn’t do anything or when the pain came on I had to stop what I was doing and felt like screaming until the pain passed. Initially I thought it was stress or something so tweaked my diet, gave myself outlets outside of work (reading / Xbox) to relax.

That didn’t work, so I went to the Dr and after trying a low fodmap diet plan for a month (IBS), doing various medical tests, more calls/emails to the dr, lots of tablets and medicine and a visit to the hospital it was getting worse, not better.

I was losing weight, losing energy, finding it hard to eat and not able to function normally and was being sick a lot and not really able to go to the toilet anymore.

I limped into A & E on the 17th Oct. I’ve never been so weak and ill in my life. An X-ray and Ct scan showed my large intestine was completely blocked by a growth and I needed an emergency operation immediately.

After the first major op, something failed inside and I was leaking poo internally and had to have a 2nd major life changing op 5 days later otherwise I would have got sepsis and would have been dead in 2 weeks.

I ended up having 2/3rds of my large intestine removed and some surrounding tissue (lymph nodes) romoved and am now 1 in 335 people who have a stoma.

Sadly the growth was a large horrible tumour that turned about to be bowel cancer. It was cut out along with 50+ lymph nodes as it had started to spread. The Drs have cut out everything they can see, so now I’m about to start chemotherapy for a while to see if we can clear up anything that may be left floating around in my body that the surgery(s) didn’t cut out and get it before it does anymore damage. Hopefully things go in my favour now and in the future.

My stomach muscles and all that area were majorly affected by the surgeries and I also got an abdominal infection followed by a chest infection. I lost 3 stone and couldn’t do anything at all and was pretty much an awake vegetable for a while. I ended up in hospital for 39 days and have been building up weight, strength and my immune system at home recently and have recently been able to walk independently as of 7 days ago.

I’m making very good progress overall, all things considered and look for the wins each day and I’m going to throw the kitchen sink at it. I’m a person, a man, a husband, a father and now a fighter and I have a lot to fight for.

It’s been the most difficult, painful and horrendous experience I’ve ever had. So with that in mind, I would like it if no one else ever has to go through it.

If anyone ever has something going on with their health and youre not sure, PLEASE get it checked out, don’t take a gamble, or if like me and you’re not sure it’s the right answer, keep pushing and knocking on the door until you get the right answer. It might be small and nothing to worry about, it might be something that can improve your quality of life, or it might end up being something that could buy you a few more years or save your life!

This is not a stupid picture, or a funny one liner, so a lot of people won’t bother to read all of it. This is also not a sympathy post. I don’t want sympathy, or people to feel sorry for me or give me a metaphorical pat on the head, I’m not a dog. I’m one of many, 1 in 2 who will be affected by cancer in their lifetime.

If you’ve read this far, thanks and just remember the bit above, *go and get yourself checked out if something doesn’t seem right.*

Have a good Christmas and New Year. Make it a good one!🎅🌲🎁🔴🔵🔴🔵

I think the Valladolid line up gave us a pretty good indication of what our line up will be on Boxing Day. A couple of positions up for debate however:

Clyne or Ward
Hughes or Schlupp
Ayew or Olise
Not sure if Mateta is fit.

I’d go:

Guaita
Clyne - Andersen - Tomkins - Mitchell
Doucoure
Schlupp - Eze
Olise - Edouard - Zaha

Butland, Ward, Richards, Riedewald, Milivojevic, Hughes, Ayew, Ebiowei, Mateta

A league in peril

Incredibly sad state of affairs here at present. One would have thought that the people that run the football here would have been satisfied with the Australian teams run in the World Cup creating hopefully burgeoning interest in the local game.

What happened is unfathomable. I think the A league is the only Football league in the world where the league leader at the end of the season is not crowned champions. They then move on to an Australianism "The finals series' which is a knockout competition for the top 6 teams who are then crowned Premiers as opposed to the Minor Champion in winning the league. This is in lieu of not having enough local interest in the cup competitions here or the 2nd division for relegation and promotion. The finals series is a well-established end-of-season finale for all football of all codes in Australia.

The A leagues grand final always takes place in the top finishing team's home city... Resulting in well-attended finals in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Perth over the past 18 years. What happened is the Football Authorities (APL) have decided that the Grand final should now take place in just one City Sydney for the next 3 years. This decision has been met with uproar and that's putting it mildly. The vast majority of all club's supporters are 100 pct against it, even the Sydney-based fans. Home ground advantage and the resulting game is seen as the ultimate reward for the fans at the culmination of a season.

We are now in a state of turmoil, and it looks like the local fans' protests will kill the A league, with mass membership cancellations, Walkouts at the 20-minute mark, and other major protests. Today I'm going to the Melbourne Victory v Melbourne City sell-out derby at the 30K capacity AAMI stadium. Both sets of supporters will walk out a 20th-minute mark, including myself.... so that will almost certainly mean 20K people plus will abandon the game This kind of protest is set to continue for the rest of the season. There is a fairly high chance of real anger at todays game here in Melbourne, so I'm not sure what to expect. You may get to read about it tomorrow for all I know.

Looks like it's over here folks as the APL has said it won't reverse its decision, and the Fans won't back down.

Define Supporter/Follower/Fan/Customer.

jeudi 15 décembre 2022

Just wondered if people feel there is a difference in the above ways to describe people that follow football in general.

To me to be a 'Supporter' one needs to go and attend each week and probably even travel to away games. A Follower possibly follows more than one club.

A fan, which is where I sit now in relation to Palace as I can't go to live Palace games, hence I'm now a Follower / Fan as I will attend live showings with other fans of Palace games here in Aus, and watch regularly on TV at home.

These days I am a Supporter of Melbourne Victory as I pay a yearly membership to attend nearly all of their home games and some of their away games here.

Customer applies to just about all of the people that wear the merchandise of the big 6 and the usual Euro teams.. Save for the few that actually do attend week in week out and travel away.

Expecting a lot of different opinions on this, but it would be interesting to see if some kind of consensus forms with the above terms.

Others may not give a crap of course.

Over to you.

Moroccan fan killed/dies in France

What a waste of life at a young age. Apparently he was part of a group/mob of fans/thugs who tried ripping a french flag off a car after surrounding it and climbing in it, in panic the owner drove off the 14 year old girl caught in wheels.

I remember when England "fans" went on a rampage years ago after Germany knocked us out, attacking German cars etc even killing a scot who had a german top on.

Whats wrong with people?

I get emotions run high but it is just a game.

Suggestion: Josip Juranovic

Yes, I know, I know the standard "lets recommend a decent player from the world cup" thread!

However, Croatian RB, 27 years old. Currently at Celtic. Had a very strong tournament in my opinion. He is being linked with a move away in January and I think would be a good alternative to Ward/Clyne as Ferguson will never be fit it seems! He is a bit younger too. I wouldn't foresee a huge fee either.

Out of contract in the summer.

Couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo.

Worries the hell out of defenders with strength, pace and baby oil.

Worth a cheeky shout?*

*P.S. I have no idea what to make of this guy, sometimes looks like superman, sometimes looks like a complete liability.

Can people answer these?

1) I've found the shortest route. It's SW, E, N, W, E, E, S (seven moves). But no idea what the seven letter word is?

2) Pies (Polish for dog, my colleague got that one).

3) Carpentry.

4) Director (only word with an even number of letters).

But run out of will power for 5, 6 and 7. And possibly can't do some or all of them anyway. Number 5 would seem very tedious to work out.

What's the answers?

"International rules based order"

Anyone else noticed how quick the government is to emphasise the importance of the 'international rules based order' when criticising other countries such as Russia (including well before the invasion of Ukraine) and China - but also seems to have few qualms about breaking international law itself or (considering) withdrawing from international agreements/conventions?

So my works Christmas do is tonight. I couldn't make it because all the trains are cancelled in Kent. A work mate messaged me saying the restaurant are insisting I have to pay. He's going to pay it and I'll transfer it so he's not out of pocket. But is this normal? Could I phone the restaurant and tell them to **** off? Be nice to have some advice before I do.

Everton & Palace Fined

mardi 6 décembre 2022

Everton FC and Crystal Palace FC have been fined £20,000 and £40,000 respectively for failing to ensure that their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 69th minute of their Premier League game on Saturday 22 October 2022.*

I for the life of me can't recall anything unsavory happening at that game other than Palace getting spanked.

Discussion: Perfect Transfer Window?

Let's assume we have c.£45m to spend, who's your perfect group of new players.

I'm going for a couple of first team regulars and some young talent for back-up and the future.

RB - I really like the look of both the players we've been linked with. Cody Drameh £7m, or Sacha Boey £12m
CM - Sander Berge £16m and Alex Scott £12m
LW - Ayoub Assal £3m
CDM - Dion Lopy £6m

Gives us more cover everywhere, all likely to go up in value and not high wages. Would allow us to trim £15m+ off the wage bill in the summer.

Berge can play CDM or CM, Scott can play CM or CAM or RWB, Assal can play CAM, LW, RW, and Lopy can play CDM to cover Doucoure or can allow Doucoure to play as an 8.

Sorry, I'm dreaming, I should know better.

Southampton (h) FA Cup Saturday 7th January 12:30pm

lundi 5 décembre 2022

Confirmed as 12.30.

Suggestion: Ayoub Assal (prospect)

I've seen this guy a couple of times down at AFC Wimbledon as I live about 10 minutes away.

Every time I've seen him he's been the best player on the pitch by a country mile. he plays as a winger or a 10, is very tidy, knows where the goal is and draws fouls like Grealish.

I reckon he'd be worth a punt for a couple of million in January, only 20. Loan him back to AFCW for the rest of the season.

Rats

Well they`re back.In the Spring we were being overrun with them.I have a bird feeding station but it`s high up and they were never spotted taking bird food. The bird food in the shed is stored in sealed metal tins.Turns out two of my neighbours were composting waste food :confused:even though we had kitchen and outside food caddys for the Council to collect. They stopped this practise and with me killing at least 19 it all stopped.I don`t like killing them and actually caught some in live traps which I let go in a local forest.I`ve had small furry pets all my life including two dumbo white rats that gave us hours of laughter with their antics. Now they`ve come back. They get in the shed even though I`ve nailed wood over every conceivable hole.I`ve tried live traps on the slightest of settings which they set off eating the bait without getting caught. Now I`m back to snap traps again :(.They really are very clever little sods.

Sex Pistols (original) this day 1976

Were on tv 'interviewed' by Bill Grundy, the group included original bassist and main music writer Glen Matlock before and also Bromley Boy Simon Barker, doubt the swastika adornment would be shown or worn now! Siouxsie, Simone and Steve Spunker soon to be Severin.

Would the Pistols have had the impact and success if Grundy hadn't goaded them?

As foe influence? Any band had as much?

Water companies - the scandal of privatisation

To view the link you have to Register or Login

“Customers pay on average 20% of their bill towards servicing debt and rewarding shareholders, says CMA”

“When the Conservative prime minister Margaret Thatcher sold off the water industry in 1989, the government wrote off all debts amounting to £5bn and granted the water companies a further £1.5bn of public money, known as a “green dowry”. As of this year net debt of the main water and sewerage companies was £53.9bn.”

SH: No, but where do you really come from, where do your people come from?

Me: 'My people', lady, what is this?

Me: Lady! I am a British national, my parents came here in the 50s when...

SH: Oh, I knew we'd get there in the end, you're Caribbean!

Me: No lady, I am of African heritage, Caribbean descent and British nationality.

SH: Oh so you're from...

Irene Cara RIP

To view the link you have to Register or Login She won a Grammy and an Oscar for co-writing and singing "Flashdance - What a Feeling" but I will always remember her for starring in (and singing the theme song for) Fame, the excellent original movie not the increasingly bland tv show/reboot etc. As a 15 year old when it came out, I found it impossible to not have a crush on her.

Controversial opinion: I prefer the winter world cup

I hated the idea, pausing the season for some international matches I didnt give a shit about, meaning I would be with out Palace for a month or so but now it has started Im wondering if I prefer it. Knowing I will get both barrels from alot of people on here I wanted to put my case forward.

Watching football TV is far better in the winter, when you have nothing better to do outside, which you would do on a summers day.

Football BBQs are overrated, you cant see the screen anyway.

If the world cup was in the winter it would mean all the very hot in summer nations in the world could host it.

Hi folks,

Best way to watch World Cup outside UK

Hi all, anyone watching BBC or other UK broadcaster from abroad? Please consider me to be a tech infant and offer any advice! I am sufficiently capable of using a VPN if anyone knows and uses one that is working. IPTV or whatever it is seems rather confusing but is that a good option?

Thank you in advance!

Gary Cahill retires

As I can't find a thread I will start.

A player I didn't realise was so good till he played for us and formed part of a tremendous defensive barrier. Will be remembered as a defender who helped Palace bridge the gap in the Premier League. I wish him well in his future endeavours.

Good luck Gary and thanks

Tehran cup

vendredi 18 novembre 2022

I searched used Tehran and Iran and nowt came up, so this may be a first time it's been mentioned..

Good article on the club website today (before the England game on Monday) about a cup we won 50 years ago, against Persepholis (the top team of the time who Alan Whittle played for) the cup is in our "trophy cabinet"

The likes of Don Rogers and John Jackson played and we apparently one 5-1 with a couple from Alan Pinkney and Bobby Kellard getting one.

Obviously this was during the time of the Shah, before the revolution, I doubt whether the club would undertake a tour now.

I doubt if many (any) South Londoners ventured on the trip?

Best ex-Palace players, who became managers, but never managed us

Hi, I'll start with Chris Coleman.

Loved him as a player, once met the guy and his family in person.

Often linked to Palace but never appointed. Mixed views on him on here for sure, but how many ex-palace managers took a nation to the semifinals of an international tournament?

Pob Lwc Cymru

With quite a bit of Welsh ancestry in me, I'll be looking for the Welsh results after the English ones

Love the fact that another home counties country has got there, some good Palace connections in the team as well. Great team spirit as well, hope they get out of the group

As we're playing Botafogo in the friendly maybe we're going to be taking a look at Jeffinho.

He's a pacy winger and if Wilf is off then maybe a replacement?

Newcastle and West Ham supposed to be sniffing around but surely with the Textor connection we're ahead of the pack.

The friendly would give him a chance to look around too but hopefully that won't put him off.

Windows Update Messing with Ethernet

Much to the delight of Maidstone Eagle, I am seeking advice with a PC computer issue.

Over the last few days when shutting down my PC it has "suggested" I do an update. Being somewhat gullible, I accepted this "Update and shutdown" request.

Next morning, I can get on my browser (Firefox) but no websites will open. After half a day of frustration I uninstall and reinstall Firefox and it seems to work as normal again.

Today, I get the same "Update and shutdown" request and like the fool I am I accept that. Once again browser opens but website will not open (neither Firefox, Chrome or even Edge).

After much Googling on my phone (WiFi working fine) I see something about disconnecting my Ethernet, which is how I have my PC set up. I disconnect the Ethernet, and sure as heck browsers work fine (hence me being able to post this). I plug the Ethernet cable back in, and sure as shit websites are not accessible again.

More Google searching is not helping beyond telling me to check the cable, which I really don't think is the issue. I'm convinced it is something associated with the Windows update.

Any ideas other than getting an Apple?

What goal hit you most in the feels?

So, I'm watching To view the link you have to Register or Login on a quiet Friday evening at home and I've been trying to work out which Palace goal hit me the hardest in terms of physical emotion.

I remember screaming with a Street brother at Wembley when HLTCO. I remember literally running out of the room at home when Freedman netted at Stockport.

In terms of emotional goals, I'm not sure that anything in recent years has touched Puncheon's finish against Norwich. I'm not sure if his reaction caused me to be a bit soft or not, but hell, it meant something.

So as we approach a break in moral football, in your years of Palace, which goal has brought the biggest swell of emotion?

Share your world cup predictions

Because I am a sad sack I Googled one of those predictor thingies while on the train down to London yesterday and mapped out my tournament. As a family we have also put a few modest wagers on.

I thought it might be fun for some of us to expose our predictions on here, and then look back on how they pan out as the tournament progresses. So in summary I have:

Winners Argentina
Runners up Denmark
Losing semi-finalists Brazil and Serbia
England to reach the quarter finals
Top scorer Mitrovic
Player of the tournament Vinicius Junior
Golden gloves Schmeichel

England win their group and once again find themselves in the easier half of the draw. They dispatch Ghana in the second round despite Ayew's heroics, but then succumb to Denmark in the quarters, who in turn overturn surprise package Serbia to get to the final.

Argentina by contrast navigate an epic path to the trophy, overcoming France, Holland and Brazil in successive knockout games before vanquishing Denmark in the final. The semi against Brazil is a battle for the ages.

My logic for Mitrovic as top scorer is that it often turns out to be a fairly left field choice rather than one of the established top names, and it can be someone who bags a load of goals in the easier group stage (see Kane last time out). Mitrovic goes into the tournament high on confidence, he's been prolific for his nation and I'm backing him to get a hatful against Cameroon to set him on his way.

I must admit to a degree of confirmation bias when predicting the scores of all the matches, I had in mind the teams who I favoured anyway and this would have influenced my thinking.

The Reform Party and the Next Election

Of course they're a strange cultish bunch but the latest polls have these guys at around 8%. I am guessing they are hoovering up disenchanted Boris fans but that's not far off what the Lib Dems are polling. If they score anything like that they're going to cost the Tories dozens of seats.

Remembrance Day 2022

jeudi 10 novembre 2022

Arthur Maurice Cooper, my grandfather served in the Lincolnshire Regiment, from 1904 until he “died of his wounds” as a POW in Berlin in Jan 1915. Buried in Potsdam, Germany.

He is remembered on the Bawtry War Memorial, South Yorkshire, which was originally positioned on the very busy A638. In 2018, the council decided to move it to Bawtry library to make it more accessible and safer for public access.

On the old memorial he was listed as A. N. Cooper, and thanks to my cousins still living in the area, when the new memorial was erected his name was corrected to A. M. Cooper.

Are we unfashionable/unpopular/underrated?

First of all, if we are any of these things, I actually don’t mind really - I quite like flying under the radar.

But is it just me, or does it sometimes seem like our face as a club doesn’t quite fit with what people perceive the Premier League is, or should be? Of course we get praised from certain sections, mostly for our forward players (though the talk about them is usually pretty generic and cliched), but compared to more or less every other team in the league, I don’t feel like we get as many column inches or discussions focussed on us etc?

Maybe it’s because we’re one of a number of London teams? But considering the calibre of a number of our players, and the diversity of our squad, coaching staff and fan base, I’m surprised people don’t talk about us more. Whether it’s MNF, or 5 Live’s Monday Night Club, or The Overlap or whatever else, it just feels to me like we don’t often feature - and our players are never really bigged up compared to others. How many centre halves have objectively been better than Andersen this season? The media have their favourites, but there has been almost constant chatter/campaigning for Coady/Maddison to make the England squad, for instance, but basically nothing about Guehi and Eze for example. I think both should be in the England squad, and the former’s omission is particularly baffling to me.

Fans of a lot of fans may feel a bit like this, but sometimes I feel we’re disrespected, despite our current lengthy tenure in the league. Because we don’t splash hundreds of millions, and/or didn’t have a historical successful spell where we won trophies at some point, it almost feels like we’re almost an inconvenience to many/don’t really deserve our place here. Plus our fans seem to come in for more stick than most, mostly it seems for being different in the way we support our team?

Player Ratings And Reviews: Newcastle

mercredi 9 novembre 2022

We were better first half, they were better 2nd half. Not many clear chances. Mateta had a good shot saved, we nearly gifted them a goal after 20 seconds in the second half. Johnstone made one other decent save.

The back 5 did well. Hughes was better 1st half than 2nd. Olise and Luka were below par. Mateta was good and Ayew was superb.

We deserved a draw. The penalties were shocking. They were poor, we were worse.

Freehold/ Leasehold advice

Question aimed at those that would be somewhat of an expert in this field.

I've a relative who owns a 1st Floor Maisonette on a reducing Leashold basis (down to 70 years ish I believe)

The Freehold for the whole property (comprising Ground Floor Maisonette and the 1st Floor Maisonette above) is owned by the guy that lives in the Ground Floor Maisonette.

I take it the relatives on the 1st Floor could in theory offer to sell that property to the guy in the Ground Floor, particularly as he's always been keen to own the whole property, and thus the issue of their needing to increase the lease on their part of the property would dissapear?

Any advice/comments?

Suggestion: Philip Billing

Here's my best suggestion yet! There have been a lot of bad ones I'll admit, so hardly much competition. :D Anyway, I'll make the case for him. The complete midfielder. Left footed, good technically. Could play as a 6 alongside Doucoure. Could also play as an 8 if Vieira wants to go back to a single pivot, or possibly even further forward. Lots of Premier League experience, physically strong, and excellent in the air which our team probably needs. Only has 18 months left on his contract. We were interested before. Might we be interested again if Bournemouth go down?

Crystal Ball: League Cup: Saudi Bar Codes Away

Having won at the Kassam Stadium in the previous round, we now move on to another away tie, this time at the Saudi Bar Codes.

As usual the score, scorers and attendance.

A reminder of the cup rules from the ongoing thread: "Cup matches are based on the result of the match before any penalties. Therefore if the match goes to penalties then the match is judged to be a draw, regardless of who wins the shootout."

Unsung Heroes

I'd like to kick off this thread with a special mention for Nathaniel Clyne (and for the Palace management team, too)

Due to our dreadful situation we had to watch this guy move on and other clubs reap the benefit. But after playing for Liverpool and England he didn't see himself as too big to come back and relaunch his career at Palace.

In his second tenure he has been nothing short of a modal professional sharing the spot with Ward. And putting in some very steady performances.

Well done Sir.

Life After Zaha

Although there might be some hope he will stay so we can keep kicking the can down the road, the chances are that Wilfred Zaha will be off by season's end. Then, that question we've all dreaded facing will have to be answered; 'how do we survive, let alone prosper, without him?' The larger question is, where do we invest to try to make up for his loss?

For the sake of argument, let's assume Zaha is definitely going and the club knows it must spend big. The same level of outlay as the summer when PV arrived. Where should the money go, given our existing strengths / weaknesses?

Should it be forking out massively on a 'new Ian Wright,' which would fix the loss of Zaha's goals and give us the pace and potency our attack would lose?

Or do we stick with our current strikers and spend on a pacy winger who can cross and also get in an attacking midfielder, in the Gallagher mode, who will give us back some threat ( and goals ) through the middle?

Or perhaps we should concentrate on making the midfield and defence ultra-robust and mean, allowing us to get by on what would be a less potent creative unit of just Eze, Olise, Ewobei ( hopefully ) and Schlupp, perhaps playing behind either Edouard or JPM? Revisit the loss of Zaha after a season of survival?

Thoughts?

Suggested Team and Formation For: Nottingham Forest (away)

dimanche 6 novembre 2022

———————————Guaita—————————————-
Clyne———Andersen————-Guehi—————-Mitchell
—————-Doucoure————Schlupp—————————
Ayew———————————————————-Eze
———————————-Olise————————————-
———————————-Zaha—————————————

Becomes 3-4-3/3-4-2-1 when in possession with Mitchell pushing into midfield and Eze released into the pockets, the same as against West Ham.

Edouard first sub if he is fit. Love the solidity of that side with the double pivot away from home. (Do think that Schlupp and Luka as the 2nd pivot options can be upgraded in the transfer window, as we can’t rely on 35 year old McArthur.) Also, seeing Clyne against West Ham reminds us what a weakness club legend Wardy is when we are in possession. That’s another area we must upgrade soon. But in terms of what we currently have, that’s our strongest XI away from home. Well done to Vieira for finding it.

Mark Guehi Interview Premier League

Very impressive. I know these are soft interviews and of course he ticks all the boxes/ 'fans best in League'/ in awe of manager. But what comes across is a very mature nice guy. Feet definitely on the ground - if that isn't an oxymoron for a centre back.
Think we're very lucky to have him - you can see why he is captain material. Long may he stay here. With Anderson they complement each other and one of best centre back pairings for some time.

Rumour: AWB - Jan 23

samedi 5 novembre 2022

Nixon:

Manchester United will let Aaron Wan-Bissaka go ‘home’ to Crystal Palace if the clubs can agree a loan deal.

Wan-Bissaka is well out of favour under Erik ten Hag — playing just four minutes for the first team as a substitute back in August and only getting a brief look at the bench in recent weeks.

Palace boss Patrick Vieira would take their former defender back but a loan move is the only way he can afford him — and that will take some negotiating.

Palace may have to pick up all of Wan-Bissaka’s £80,000-a-week wages making it an expensive deal even without having to pay a transfer fee.
