I didn't think the vegetable botherers at Watford could be beat, but there are some utter sadsacks that follow Britney.

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after.

Fellow Palace fans please can you help, I tried to travel down for Brighton game from Newcastle area but had to turn back at Peterborough as no fuel anywhere- what is the situation re Petrol around M25 from Dartford Bridge to either Orpington or Godstone jct, my car only does about 450 miles on a full tank so to enable me to get back I need to fill up from Peterborough onwards- up here today the Petrol stations are all open close to me but I wonder what the situation is at the moment- any help appreciated

Smart Meters

Sorry for being thick but I had a smart meter fitted yesterday. The fitter gave us a unit to plug in so we can view the meter reads etc. Problem - the plug on this unit is smaller than the conventional plug socket. So what do I have to do; buy another display to plug this unit in so it will work? If so, where do I get the second unit?

Confused of Worthing.

I think Ayew can do well off the bench pressing for the final 30 mins. Hope we can get Hughes some minutes. It won't be an easy game, we will need to be patient as there will be ups and downs. Even if we lose, the journey has begun. Exciting times.

New Style of Football

Now that last night is behind us, waking up today reflecting on the performance and the previous 5, I thought it might be nice to have a positive thread.

I am genuinely amazed that we have adopted this new progressive approach so quickly. We still maybe need to work on that final ball at times, and Eze’s return will help, but in general our play is so, so much easier on the eye than in recent years. I really thought certain players such as Luka, Jimmy Mac & Ward may have struggled but they are all looking revitalised so I have done the a disservice. Luka last night looked like a different player to me.

The club and PV deserve an enormous amount of credit for the project over the Summer.

Let’s forget about that freak goal, it’s football and these things happen. Bigger picture is we’ve made quite incredible strides in a very short space of time. A lot of work to do but loads to be positive about. On to Leicester!

Up the Palace!

Player Ratings And Reviews: Man of the Match?

lundi 27 septembre 2021

Jordan Ayew leading the poll on the website.

Personally I go with Joel. As we know he isnt exactly Gods gift to mankind in terms of entertainment value and attacking prowess but he always turns up in games like this.

STFU!

Frickin' scum. It was a fairly crap game and your rubbish were pissed off to draw?
Don't get above yourselves because you managed a point against a much higher team in the league, you won't get many luckier points this season.

Immigration crises

A fair few of these going on around the world.

We have just seen the situation on the US Mexico border with Haitians, among others - many of whom have already made their way to places like Chile and Peru, and then turned north.

We are having real problems in the North in Chile. The weekend saw locals actually burning immigrant's tents and belongings. Vhilean karens. Immigrants are coming in from Venezuala, Haiti, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru and Bolivia.

I am not sure of the numbers, but it is as much as 500 a day travelling across th Atacama desert -many with young children, and some pretty old and barely able to move. Plus, they are being picked off by the usual scumbags. Some don't help themselves by ransacking houses looking for food and water, and I guess cash items to get them to Santiago.

Not sure I can be dealing with Maduro and Venezuala criticising Chile for what is going on. If there is one **** that needs a dose of covid...

Check Your COVID Pass

Hi All,

Don't forget to check the expiry date on your COVID Pass on your mobile.

Mine for example had expired in the last 2 days, so I had to download latest version from the NHS App, my expiry is now end of October.

Rumour: Tom Davies

Sources: Crystal Palace set sights on Everton star after Davies talks update

Crystal Palace are keeping tabs on Everton midfielder Tom Davies amid uncertainty over his future, Football Insider understands.

The Goodison academy product is a big fans favourite after graduating from the youth team but has not started a Premier League match under Rafael Benitez.

A Palace source has told Football Insider that Davies is on their radar going into next year and his situation at Everton will be monitored.

Intriguingly, Davies is out of contract in the summer of 2023 and there has been no progress in talks over an extension.

He started less than half of Everton’s Premier League matches last season and has slipped even further down the pecking order under Benitez.

Palace signed two central midfielders during a summer of extensive recruitment.

R.i.P Quo founder member Alan Lancaster .

Succumbed to MS , Formed quo along with Rossi at School in Beckenham , a bit of stroppy bugger by all accounts, still sad to hear of his passing though. Quo were huge back in the 70's so those us around then as teenagers will likely have some great memories of them .. RIP Alan Lancaster ..

Online website builders and merchandise stores.

So like you do sitting at home on a Sunday morning with nothing to do just aimlessly reading anything on the internet, I have thought about starting a website that links to other websites with articles in which I have an interest.

I have thought of a domain name which is free and am looking at building the website using one of the online sites like Wix,Godaddy or anything similar. Has anyone experience of using these and what would be the best one to go with or recommendations for something similar.
In addition to that i have designed a logo and was wondering if anyone knew of good merchandise stores where you do not have to pay upfront for the merch, basically, you are a middleman.

Thanks in advance.

Next Labour leader?

So we know it’s probably not far off. Even Starmer wants the rules changed as it’s getting closer. So who will it be? Rayner, Streeting or someone else?

Interesting article.

Quote:

I bring this up because people say a lot of things about the economies of the Nordic countries and why they are so much more equal than ours. In this discussion, certainly the presence of unions and sector bargaining comes up, but rarely do you get a discussion of just how radically powerful and organized the Nordic unions are and have been. If you didn’t know better, you’d think the Nordic labor market is the way it is because all of the employers and workers came together and agreed that their system is better for everyone. And while it’s true of course that, on a day-to-day basis, labor relations in the countries are peaceful, lurking behind that peace is often a credible threat that the unions will crush an employer that steps out of line, not just by striking at one site or at one company, but by striking every single thing that the company touches.
Of course this would be illegal in the U.K.

Something both the main political parties are fine with.

Driving down to the 'Weed game on Monday and going to try and minimise public transport as much as possible so thinking I might park in Forest Hill.

I have seen two car parks: Perry Vale (the Industrial Estate) or Pearcefield Avenue

Does anyone know if they are contactless payments or do they use an App?

Things you really miss.

jeudi 23 septembre 2021

I had a bit of a hankering for OK Fruity Sauce today.

I used to love it in a cheese sarny amongst other things e.g with bacon and eggs.

My sister bought me a bottle for Xmas a while ago but it was a version sold in Chinese food outlets and I think they put Soy sauce in it as it wasn't the same.

Got to make do with HP Fruity nowadays.

What do you really miss that you can't get anymore?

Favourite Palace v Brighton videos

To get in the mood for Monday evening, what are some of your favourite Palace v Brighton videos?

This one's up there still, ten years on:

As for history, I'd take any that don't refer to it as the M23 derby!

Employment advice

If anyone is in HR or deals with employment law I could do with a little help.

I have been put on a Performace Improvement Plan at work. It's all very spurious and part of a bigger plan to clear out people. Its a 30 day PIP. My question is if we get to the end and, as expected, they say "you've failed", does termination kick in with my 30 days notice period? ie I get paid my month or sent home on gardening? OR do they say "Bye" and here is the holiday money and commissions we owe you?

thx

100 years ago, September 1921. Palace offered a new ground. Wembley.

mercredi 22 septembre 2021

Hard one to believe now, but going through newspaper archive, it seems, Palace, just one year into their Football League journey (they had won the inaugural FL Third Division in 1920/21 after moving, with most other professional clubs from the Southern League in 1920.

The new Wembley Stadium is being built, but won’t be opened until 1923 - replacing the old Crystal Palace venue as the permanent home of the FA Cup Final.

Here, in a report from September 21st 1921 in the London Daily News, suggesting that Palace (along with QPR) have been offered the new Wembley as a home venue. Palace, at this time are still playing at The Nest, near Selhurst Station and Selhurst Park has also not yet even been been begun to be built, although the land had been bought.

Green Energy gone bust...

Anybody else with Green energy? Just gone bust, they say you should take photos of your meter readings. Aside from the meters anybody know what will happen to supply? What we need to do to? Do we try and switch suppliers? Not sure what to do next :eek:

Attendance Percentage against capacity

I saw something that caught my eye the other day regarding attendances so far this season. As a percentage against stadium capacity, Palace are bottom of the table with the stadium only 88.1% full according to the article. Of course, their may be inaccuracies, they have the capacity listed as 26,047 which may or may not be correct these days. With that said, I have noticed blocks of available seating in areas of the main stand in both of our games so far and started wondering why.

Premiership novelty worn off?
Viera not enticing enough?
Fans priced out?
Covid?

I hadn't renewed my season ticket this year, but recently e-mailed the box office to request availability as I was suffering withdrawal symptoms. The box office initially responded confirming availability, but despite me twice following up requesting that they hold the seat, I have not had a response from them. I am literally a sitting duck, ready to part with my cash and am quite shocked at the lack of interest from them. I know that their have been a number of teething problems with the new ticketing system, but do the club do enough to entice floating fans (I would not consider myself a floating fan having been a season ticket holder for nigh on 22 years)

Who else?

Who else is so excited about Palace at the moment that waiting between matches is almost unbearable? Don’t even get me started on the International breaks, they are a living hell. Any good ideas as to how to pass the time? At the moment I am just wishing my life away, which at my age is not good.

Wilf 400 appearances!!

Noticed (after looking at how many appearances Terry Long had) that Wilf is 2 off 400. What an amazing achievement :p

Referee for Brighton

On Premier League site it says Andre Mariner. Why do we get these awful referees?

EZE Interview palace website

Wonderful interview with Eze. Thoughtful, articulate and so positive. Just cannot wait to see him express his skills on the pitch. 18 months ago Freedman sold him the vision of how things would turn out and the kind of signings they hoped to make. And he can't wait to play with this new team. Hopefully the injury will not have a lasting or serious impact, but it is a difficult one to recover fully and quickly from. But his enthusiasm is infectious. As he says - he is so looking forward to returning to play again. In front of the fans he says it will feel like his debut.

Terry Long RIP

For us older fans one of the players in the 50s and 60s. Who held the club appearence record until Jim Cannon beat it. Appeared in every division for us but the First.

RIP Condolences to his family and friends. Thanks for so many memories.

Google Pay

Anyone else use it and have trouble with their transaction activity?

For some reason it has stopped recording all transactions for the last 4 weeks or so

I've followed all the troubleshooting online guides to no avail

Tottenham (H) attendance

One of the things I like to find out after a game is the attendance. Having been to Selhurst Park more times than I care to remember, I tend to look around at the match and have a guesstimate in my head, and then when I see the attendance figure later, I'm usually pretty close, within about a thousand.

Oddly, for the first time I can ever remember (for a senior football match), there was no attendance figure published anywhere for the Spurs home game - not in the Sunday papers, not on the BBC site, not anywhere that I could find!

My initial thought was oh well, it'll no doubt be on the statistics page in the next home programme, but then I looked in the programme and there isn't even a column for the attendance!

I suspect that the complications with people having tickets issued on phones, resent via emailed pdf;s and maybe reprinted again at the ground made counting the number of attendees a lot more complicated than usual, and getting a number is low on the priorities for the club/ticket office

I just thought it most odd, and that I always assumed providing an attendance figure was always some sort of league requirement? The attendance figures are historically interesting to track trends of support levels

For what it's worth, my guesstimate was 23,000!

Dads talking paternity

I fairly recently became a father for the third time and through a combination of luck and planning was able to take 6 months paternity leave, compared with the four weeks I had with my first two. I was able to think about things a bit more and wrote some thoughts down at first for just for myself but ultimately decided to share them - I did it on LinkedIn which I appreciate is a bit weird but I don’t really do social media and it’s the only place I have people who follow me.

It provoked a lot of reaction from both men and women who had strong feelings about their own experiences as parents and as children, and I learned a lot from them. But to me the biggest thing was how much some people valued having a space to discuss this stuff. I looked and there aren’t a lot of spaces where men talk about paternity, or people talk about paternity in general. Mumsnet has over a million subscribers but there’s no equivalent for dads. Many discussions about the role of fathers are pulled into debates about the fairness or not of custody or child support decisions after divorce.

I know there are a lot of fathers on here, and probably also a lot of people who while maybe not having kids themselves are thoughtful about what it means to be a father.

So I wanted to ask what people think. Do we need to find ways for dads to share experience more with other dads so that we can all be better dads? For those of you who are fathers what do you wish someone else had shared with you? And a question to everyone - is the way we think about fathers and their role in children’s lives right, wrong, somewhere in the middle and why? And if we don’t have it right, what should we do differently?

Maybe this isn’t the right place to ask these questions and this will die a quiet death down the recesses of the General Chit Chat forum. But this is a big online community mainly - but not only - comprised of men. So it seemed like a reasonable place to ask these things.

Lastly if you are interested in what I wrote on this - and warning, I’m verbose and it’s long - it’s here: To view the link you have to Register or Login

Rumour: Daryl Dike (Jan 22)

samedi 18 septembre 2021

Crystal Palace want USA striker Daryl Dike — but are put off by his £18million price.

Boss Patrick Vieira is keen to bring in an extra forward and his scouts have suggested the Orlando City hitman after his loan at Barnsley last season.

With the Eagles backed by American cash, it would be a major plus to land Dike, 21 — a powerful prospect who could be one of his country’s top players for years to come.

The striker has netted three goals and one assist in eight MLS appearances this term.

But MLS outfit Orlando have put a big valuation on Dike — and that does not fit with Palace’s plans as they want a striker to bring through rather than start immediately.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Brighton

Edouard has to start.

Olise should be considered to start.

Hope Hughes is fit enough to be an option off the bench over riedeweld.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Liverpool (away)

Guaita 6 One or two good saves, but also some moments that could have worked out better

Mitchell 7 I thought he defended very well against Salah
Guehi 7 solid
Andersen 7 solid
Ward 8 MOM. I felt he was the pick of our defenders. Well played the 2nd skipper.

Kouyate 7 Did quite well. Certainly won a bit of ball and passing was ok.
Gallagher 8 Buzzed about and was everywhere. He's a real player
McArthur 4 game completely passed him by. Legs are going. Rightly hooked.

Zaha 6 A threat, but touch just not there in the crucial moments. Too often is too wide with not enough support, and down on confidence as well as pace due to too many sideways passes? No doubt he has enough pace to rip Milner apart, and he didn't. Penalty wasn't a penalty under new guidelines - he has to be more aggressive and stronger.

Benteke 7 Worked hard, and contributed in both boxes. He will be an asset for us off the bench for a long time to come hopefully

Ayew 6 love his workrate, his ability to carry the ball, his ability to win free kicks. But he's brain dead. If he sees Zaha is free why not at least attempt the pass rather than being greedy from a tight angle? He might not have the technical ability to pull it off but he should be giving it a go. Having said that, we should be offering him a new contract because I think he is suited to Vieira's style of play. I think he has a big part to play this season. I think he should play in the midfield 3. We saw it vs Chelsea when we went to a back 3. Why not in the 4-3-3? He won't let us down defensively.

Subs:

Edouard 6 - poor touch and would have scored if it was better when cross came over, but the movement was excellent and we know he can finish. Also went in behind Konate and was unlucky. He will be starting soon.

Olise 6 - not on long but the best skill of the game when he sat Milner down with a wonderful body swerve and cut back. He's going to be a player for us.

Riedewald 4 - right to take McArthur off but wrong player to put on instead. Lost his man on the corner that led to Salah goal, and failed to pass accurately. Why not bring on Hughes instead?

Vieira 7 Other than that I thought he made the right subs at the right time and he has us playing an attractive brand of football. Let alone 3-0 flattering them, on another day we win that game. Very encouraging performance. COYP

Eagle Eye Fanzine

Inspired by that Nick Knowles programme on Channel 5, my wife is clearing out our loft. I have a load of Palace memorabilia stashed up there which has not seen the light of day for 20-30 years. Among the stuff I feel that I have let go are the first 16 Eagle Eye fanzines dating from Oct 1987 (Alan Birchenall on the cover) to March 1991 (make your own Brighton shirt).

All in a decent condition. I would prefer the whole lot to go as one, but individual issues will be considered. Can post or bring to a home game to exchange.

Send me a private message.

I am looking to get in early before the chattering classes.

Isn't it time we had some empathy for racists, sexists, and homophobes. Not those that abuse, but at least the casual en enablers like white flight and bimbo.

In other aspects they are probably warm, generous humans, too.

If we can’t show some empathy and acceptance, what have we learnt?

New Laptop advice

Sorry...asking for advice. Bit of wally when it comes to the technical side of these things. I tend to buy one and cling to it for dear life. Anyway, the ASUS laptop i've had for many a year has finally died on me so needing advice on a cost effective replacement that will meet my needs.

The main thing I'll be using it for will be my Video editing software...Corel Videostudio x8. The software's 6 years old, so guessing I won't need anything too advanced. Looked online at a product review and a guy said the best laptops for Corel X8 are 17 inch laptops with 8GB RAM and with a dual core processor part of the 5th or the 6th generation of Intel chips. Haven't a scooby what most of that means.

Wondering if a second hand/refurbished one might be the way to go, seeing as I don't have too much to spend, or would that be risky. Am I better off just going with a new one. Could probably stretch to £400 or so, which i'm guessing would be difficult brand new.

Any advice as always, gratefully received.

Cheers

The official Christmas 2021 countdown thread

mercredi 15 septembre 2021

What a crap few years hey ? so let the count down to brighter times begin

What are you looking forward to on the box ?

What's on ya Wishlist ?

Discuss anything leading into Christmas that's good or bad

Why is the Box Office so bad?

A number of issues this season such as E-Tickets but the below really irritates me.

Just gone to purchase a Liverpool away ticket and only about 20 restricted view remain. Rang the box office to ask why block 122 (the best block in the away end) was greyed out and they said sales slowed down so decided not to take this block.

I find this an astonishing approach to take after only putting tickets on sale last Wednesday. Surely you look to give fans maximum opportunity to attend after dropping the ball like that? In addition to this you are required to pickup the tickets from Selhurst. This makes things difficult and they could easily be sent to Anfield for collection?

I’d love to see it become Palace policy that for Saturday away games that they take the full allocation as this has happened to me and friends numerous times before. If they provided free coach travel for each away game I think this would create a feeling of goodwill among supporters and also ensure away ends are packed up ultimately increasing the chances of a good performance.

Xbox X or PS5 for Football

I?ve just managed to order both an XBOX X and PS5 so need to decide on which console to go for.

I?d like to be able to use it to watch all Premier League games in the highest quality 4K ideally. I have BT Sport app access and also Sky Go plus Now Tv but I don?t think Sky/Now provide HD content and certainly not 4K like BT.

What would be the best way to ensure I can watch all Palace games in the highest quality? Is there now a way to watch all games reliably in HD as a minimum and ideally 4K?

Thanks

Covid19

lundi 13 septembre 2021

I did put this on the season ticket thread but it's probably more valid here.

At present you are not supposed to attend matches if you have symptoms or are recovering from Covid. At present the regulations allow the stewards to check compliance. If asked you are 'expected' to show the NHS Covid19 app screen or a recent lateral flow test result. If you can't comply you cannot be refused entry.

The club advise that this could change on 1st October, and they are awaiting clarification. I know Covid passports are unlikely to be introduced, but if the above becomes mandatory, without a smart phone how will you get into the ground?

TEAM FOR LIVERPOOL ?

Wouldn't be surprised if starting line up is same as for Spurs. Possibly Edouard for Benteke, but doubt it.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Liverpool at Anfield

Kouyate. Luka
Zaha. Gallagher. McArthur
Edouard

Red and Blue Bar on Saturday

That was a wonderful result, well done boys.

Now for a whinge about red and blue bar,

Having taking some time getting into the ground, we arrived just in time for a quick pint in Red and blue.
They were happy to sell us said pint at 12.22, at 12.30 we started being pressured by staff to leave the bar when I still had half the beer left. Security then came up (12.32 ish) to us and basically told us to get out.

My reply was very simply I was sold the pint at 12.22, I need time to finish it.

I was told, quite aggresively, I must go now. Naturally I refused and finished my pint, (took all of another 3 minutes) then left, during this time this security guy was right in front of me glaring.

I have not had that before in red and blue and did not appreciate it. Wont be back for a while, plenty of places I feel more comfortable drinking in than that.

Garth crooks

Reading garth crooks comments on team of the week bbc sport .
He has Zaha in his team, which was warranted , goes on to say what a good job referee done with not sending off Zaha and the defender , but then says we wouldn't have won the game if spurs had kept 11 men on the pitch what f..... game was he watching ?

Pubs for: Liverpool

dimanche 12 septembre 2021

Where are people drinking before and after this one? Cheers

Edouard & Benteke OR Edouard & Ayew

Which 2 of these 3 should we play v Liverpool (& in future) IMHO Ayer is better at making & creating chances and Benteke is better slightly better at taking a chance (Slightly) so for me I would play Edouard & Benteke with Ayew replacing
Benteke after 60 - 65 Mins if needed.

With the creativity that we have available to us at the moment I think we could afford to not have Ayew?s ball carrying ability , but could possibly reap the rewards from having Edouard & Benteke on the pitch a# a duel threat.

:lux: C O Y P :lux:

New Contract for Wilf

To counteract all the negative horse shit around Wilf lets talk about the most important player in Palace history and the one who our team needs to be built around. He clearly likes being coached by one of the Premier League all time greats and despite his importance to us, other teams have not come knocking for him. With two years left if he does enter a final year we may economically be forced to lose him, better to tie him down to a better five-year contract now that will see him in his prime for us. He is the one player worth the investment, although the likes of Eze will be in the future.

Rumour: Jed Wallace

The old thread is closed but looks like this may not be dead for January or next summer?.

Millwall attacking midfielder Jed Wallace is out of contract next summer and the 27-year-old English player is attracting interest from Brentford, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Newcastle United, West Ham as well as Celtic, Rangers and West Brom. (Football League World)

Our start to the season

European Champions Chelsea

Joint top Brentford

Joint top West Ham

Top of the table Spurs

A win today and next game is joint top of the table Liverpool!

That is one hell of a start and our opening 5 games will have all been against teams in the top half after 4 games. We all thought we had a tough start but just how tough surprised me. The fact we have been getting better every game so far, the fact we have players coming back, only just signed etc and they strengthen the team/match day squad. Could we be in for a very good season? Top half at least?

Best Premier League Win in this Spell?

Is it regency bias to suggest today might be? The Anfield wins were great, the Etihad one also, and beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge twice, but all of those required a lot of backs to the wall defending.

I just can’t quite believe how good we looked today. In total control throughout.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Palace 3-0 Tottenham

Fabulous performance.

Gallagher is special. One small point is I think he just needs a little more composure when in final third and some of those earlier efforts wouldn’t have ended up in row Z.

Zaha best player on the pitch.

McArthur was quality start to finish. Great energy.

One final mention for Anderson. Quality player.

A long season to come with ups and downs but certainly lots of positive energy. Hughes is going to fit into this side wonderfully too

Strangely, I miss Ron Noades

This is no doubt going to be controversial, but it is at times like these that I really miss Ron Noades.

He could be a curmudgeonly old b****r and I had no end of runs in with him over the years. He may not have been a ?Palace man? by birth but in situations like we have now, I miss him greatly.

You only have to read the threads here or on Holmesdale Online to learn of the tragic horror stories that supporters, many of them long-standing, are experiencing in attempting to attend today?s game.

Many are faced with long journeys, unsure whether they will actually be able to gain access to the ground or whether they will face long queues at the box office to redeem a ?product? which they paid for many months ago. We hear of Palace families who are unsure whether all or just some of them will gain access.

The supporters never asked for this. The club decided that NFC and smart phones was the way to go, and, I will be the first to admit, it makes sense. At the same time, you also have to make allowances and provision for those who cannot access this technology.

The ticketing arrangements for Brentford were not ideal, but that was nothing compared to the problems that appear to be inevitable today due to a ticketing system which has been badly conceived and poorly implemented to the point of being negligent.

And the fans affected are the same people who were lauded in the recently produced When Eagles Dare video for their support in enabling the takeover in 2010.

Well, now those fans deserve something back. They deserve something better than this. It?s all very well the club asking for us all to pull together when things aren?t going well on the pitch, but, sadly, it?s very easy for the club to forget when things are not going so well for the fans.

The staff in the box office are quite obviously completely overwhelmed by this. It is not their fault. It is those above who are responsible for this ludicrous, amateurish situation.

Only in the world of football would a company treat its customers like this.

I have supported this club since 1968. I was club photographer for 45 years, until this season when I stepped down and returned from whence I came.

Now I am in the same situation as so many others ? unsure as to whether I will actually be able to gain access to the ground today with a season ticket for which I have paid in advance for.

It promises to be carnage, but I know that 30 years ago, in similar circumstances, Ron Noades would have been out there, front and centre, taking all the abuse from supporters, but sorting the problem.

I fear that, today, it is the box office staff and stewards who will be on the receiving end of the flack. They don?t deserve it.

No apology from the club, nothing. I have never, ever, been as ashamed of this club as I am right now.

Match Ticket Information: Season Ticket Cards

Anyone who would rather have a physical season ticket card can request one from the box office by calling 020 8768 6000 or emailing boxoffice@cpfc.co.uk and including their client reference and seat details.

The box office staff are currently working their way through printing the new cards and most will be sent out by first class post tomorrow. Apparently this doesn't guarantee delivery before Saturday, but it will work for the rest of the season thereafter.

If the season ticket cards don't arrive in time there will be 'an alternative such as e-tickets'.

Digital tickets will also be sent out in the next 24 hours.

Edit: Could a mod perhaps make this a sticky for a couple of days so it doesn't get lost with all the other ticket guff? Thank you!

Tenuous links to Palace Players

Back in the day I knew a couple of brothers (Les & Terry Holsgrove) who lived on the Kingswood Estate in West Dulwich. Good players (especially Terry). Anyway, the reason for posting is that their cousin was John Holsgrove (a left half, I think) who played for Palace in the sixties. He was later sold to Wolves.

Anyone else got any tenuous links like this? If so, how & to whom?

Odsonne ?douard - Football talk.

Seeing as the other thread has been completely derailed with anything but football talk, maybe we could use this thread to discuss Odsonne, as the footballer we have and the talents and contributions to the team he might bring.

Hopefully we'll get to see what he's all about on Saturday. How do we think we incorporate him into the team, with or as a replament for Benteke with the two battling it out for the striker role?

We had one of our artists playing here in Madrid, last night. He asked me to bring along some apples and honey to the show. I had to enquire if this was some new take on the ?candles? and ?towels? that musicians will often request of record companies - can sometimes be tough to find at short notice, on a Monday.
Anyway, it turned out to be a Jewish new year tradition, and I was mildly surprised I?d never heard of it. I wonder if it?s more of a thing in the US than the UK - Mike is from NYC, already.

Badge history pre Eagle

Been looking through our late 50?s to early 70?s period, and a bit unsure about our official badge during certain seasons. I wonder if any of you older BBSers could clear it up?

The fact we didn?t wear our crest on our shirts in certain years or just used crests/embroidered name, adds to the confusion. Seems also to be differing views from sources I?ve found online, and the various Palace history books I have don?t exactly clear it up.

Now this is my understanding having seen pictures of our shirts from certain periods:

1955 - 1964

1964 - 1972

Now I know we had this crest on our 1964 - 66 shirts?

But the official club crest was still the one above it, the elongated version of the Crystal Palace building, right?

Zaha on the right?

Wilf played mainly on the right vs West Ham. Is it his best position now? He wants to play on the left because he can cut in and shoot on his favoured right therefore scoring more goals to help him with a transfer move. But is it the best for the team? Now his pace has diminished he is unlikely to go in behind, so I can’t see the case for him playing up front anymore. So is he better for us on the right, carrying the ball forward and taking us up the pitch? It makes sense because there is no attacking threat or ball carrying ability from the right full back, and there is unlikely to be any in the foreseeable future. Ayew is much better cutting in from the left anyway imho, and there’s Eze (who apparently is lined up for a front 3 role) and Edouard who can play wide left too. Just wondered what other people’s thoughts were? (Mods, feel free to edit this Zaha thread title, it might be a little bit too controversial. PM me, perhaps something more suitable can be found.)

Lorry Driver Shortage

We are quick to blame Brexit, which is a huge part of the shortage, but I hadn't really thought about the job working conditions. I always presumed it was fairly appealing, but reading this.

gave some insight.

This statement was a load of bollox though
"He also blames gender imbalance in the workplace, as well as racism and xenophobia on the road for his decision to leave."
He is a White English bloke called Tom.

Suggestion: Serge Aurier released by Spurs

Just been released by Spurs. Would be a pretty amazing final signing on the right money and would solve our rb issue?.

Palace v Peterborough early 60's cine film

Was just browsing through Palace stuff on You Tube and was shocked to stumble upon this cine film footage posted up 3 weeks ago. Anyone else aware of it? It's an amazing snapshot of our early 60's history.

Now the video states it's 'Crystal Palace v Peterboro' and Palace won 2-0. The thing is I've looked at the record books and we didn't play them at all in 1962 at home. We played them in Oct 61 and won 5-2, and then April 63 and lost 0-2 on that occasion.

The other clue is halfway through it shows a title stating 'Vic Rouse takes goal'. Now Rouse did play in the the 1961 match but not the 1963 one, when Glazier was no.1.

I really couldn't identify any of the players but having checked out Peterbourgh's kit from that time, it does correspond with the film.

Sure someone on here will be able to solve it.

Everyone is fit . What's the team ?

If everyone is fit, what would be our strongest team?
Think mine would be:
Guaita
Ferguson Anderson, Guehi, Mitchell
Gallagher, Hughes, McArthur
Zaha, Edouard, Eze

Bench
Butland
Ward, Tomkins, Kouyate
Luka, Schlupp
Olise, Benteke, Ayew

No room at present: Clyne, Kelly, Jairo, Rak Sakyi

Not bad dilemmas to have.
All fit, the likely match day squad looks strong on paper. Let's see what it's like on grass.

Question for all you Private Investor Gurus

I have a SIPP, part of which is invested in property Investment Trust, I have just received a notice of a property Investment Interest Dividend, have absolutely no idea what this is or whether there is any financial impact. Help please? Ta.

US Foreign Policy after 2021

A bit of a general one. When we hear Biden speak now, it seems clear we've reached the end of liberal interventions. Those of us who sort of understood the interventions in Afghanistan and Iraq were proved to be catastrophically wrong. It seems we do have to accept that some people just have to live under wicked dictatorships. We can send sternly worded letters but that's about all we can do.

Anyone else a little bit anxious about it? I'd be really interested to hear what Jeremy Corbyn or the "Stop the War" coalition have got to say. They have effectively won it seems. Have they had anything to say at all?

Internet killed the T.V star

I noticed that soaps have recently taken a battering in viewership losses and wondered if that seemed to be the consensus across all terrestrial T.V, and how long do you think it can currently sustain itself as more people are choosing streaming alternatives.

Before the pandemic I would watch television avidly and had a couple of youtubers whose content I'd watch, then when msm news got depressing coupled with the crap that was on I'd find myself only watching eastenders until that became unbearable.
So I went about finding new youtubers whose content would fill my time instead and also watching some episodes of classic eastenders on uktv play coupled with the myriad of other things I or the wife are subscribed to.

The day I finally quit terrestrial T.V and cancelled my licence was after the euros and can say I don't regret doing it at all.

So with the rise of streaming alternatives do you think that internet has killed T.V?

I apologise if there was already a thread related to this.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Spurs (home)

-------------------------Guaita-----------------------------
Ward------Andersen-------------Guehi------------Mitchell
-------------------------Hughes----------------------------
-------------Gallagher----------McArthur------------------
-------Olise------------Benteke----------Zaha-------------

Subs:

Butland
Schlupp
Kouyate
Tomkins
Clyne
Milivojevic
Ayew
Mateta
Edouard

Harsh on Ayew and Kouyate who both played well vs West Ham. Milivojevic might beat Will Hughes to DM. Benteke will be under serious pressure from Edouard.

Great Debuts

Potentially we will see Hughes, Olise and Odouard makes their debuts against Spurs.

I think one of the biggest thrills of being a football fan is seeing a player make his debut for your club. There is so much hope baked into it.

It got me thinking about great debuts. Or the first time I saw a player and instantly had that Neo from matrix moment ?he is the one?.

From my vague memory I recall being instantly in awe of Matt Jansen and also Ashley Cole when he came on loan. Craig Moore was class as well. More recently it was clear AWB was going to be a great player from the moment he made his first tackle.

What other players have we signed (or produced) that instantly looked brilliant?
