Parenting

dimanche 28 février 2021

Do we have one? I had a search, surprised I couldn't see one.

Thought maybe we'd like a place for all things parenting related, the ups and downs, the celebrations and the woes, the rants and the boasts.

As for me we have one kiddo, a little boy, just turned 9 months last week. He's a pandemic kid that doesn't understand that it's normal to walk around outside without a mask.

He's just starting to get the hang of standing up with support and loves doing it. Today, I positioned him standing up at the coffee table, pulled my cup of tea a little closer and then sat down on the floor by him. In the half second it took me to get down, he reached across (further than I thought he could) and grabbed the rim of my tea mug dipping his fingers in. I heard him scream and instantly pulled his hand out. He was crying like I've not heard before. An hour later we're at the pediatrician, kiddo with blistered fingers, being told he has second degree burns and and we need to go to the burns unit at the hospital tomorrow to get him checked out by a specialist. I feel terrible.

I know he's going to be alright, but he relies on us (me) to guide him through life and I feel I failed him. He's now comfortably sleeping, hand dressed with a sports sock over the top. Definitely not feeling like I'm excelling at dadding today.

I am however excited to come back to this thread with happier news in the future, like taking him to Selhurst for the first time.

Anyone with a story to share?

Festivals 2021

So who is doing what this summer now it looks likely things are back on?

I shall be doing 2000 Trees, Clockstock, Reading (Sat only chaperoning / chauffeuring the kids), probably bearded theory and maybe some other dance stuff if poss early summer

Starting 11 1st game next season

Guita

Ferguson
Cahill
Tomkins
Mitchell

Eze
Luka
Kouyate
McArthur
Zaha

Mateta

Suggested Team and Formation For: Manchester United (home)

God knows.....

If no new players are fit I’d go:

Guaita
Ward - Kouyate - Cahill - Mitchell
McCarthy - Milivojevic - Riedewald
Ayew - Mateta - Townsend

If Clyne is fit I’d start him, he has the pace to potentially deal with their Lacey front three.

If Schlupp is fit, I’d start him in the midfield three, he would have the drive forward on the counter.

Reasoning behind this, we’ve got no attacking output with players we have fit. We might as well shut up shop.

Suggestion: Joachim Anderson

Looked a class act for Fulham today, and seeing as he is their captain despite being a loanee, is obviously well regarded.

If Fulham go down, we should be straight on the phone to Lyon. Perhaps we could send them Sakho.

Clinton on Radio 5

I know he’s been on there for a while but I do really enjoy his commentary. Listening to spudz at the moment and it’s like listening to the game with a mate - love his relaxed style.

One of my all time favourite palace players too - local lad, bit of an attitude and seemed to personify who we were at the time.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Palace 0-0 Fulham

We effectively played with a midfield 5 that made both Fulham and Brighton look like Real Madrid and Barcelona.

You have to ask questions about those players and the combinations because there was something pretty badly wrong.

You can't fault the defence because in both games it was like Rouke's drift at times. The defensive shield in front of them had holes in it so the opposition in both games were getting chance after chance. Great defending and a bit of luck kept them both at bay.

All of that midfield 5 are a bit powderpuff frankly, all pretty bad in the air so we are ridiculously weak at set pieces, most pretty weak in the tackle and none a remotely dominating presence.

I'll feel sorry for Eze, he's just not used to the relentless physicality of the premier league and it's sapping his confidence. Everyone's clamored for him to play in an advanced midfield role but he looked lost today, he did nothing defensively or offensively.
Jairo too was a passenger most of the time. He harries but he's not much of a ball winner, we were totally dominated in the centre of the pitch and he was chasing shadows half the time.
Andros and Jordan tried hard but again they are not natural defenders. They put in a shift for sure but tackling is not really their game and offensively though they tried the opposition were never going to have sleepless nights about how to stop those two.

Luka was the only one putting his foot in but he needs more support defensively, he can't be a one man shield.

Obviously we have a lot of players out, we miss Schluppy, and Jimmy Mac and we were instantly improved when McCarthy came on and of course Wilf changes everything. We can be a stronger side with the players we have but the weaknesses the team showed this week need to be taken on board big time.

A lot of people were clamoring for Jairo in midfield and Eze in a number 10 position, i think this week has shown that that is a long way from the answer and we need to look at different combinations going forward.

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after.

Rumour: John Lundstram

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Crystal Palace are keen on John Lundstram – with the Sheffield United midfielder due to be a free agent at the end of this season.

The 26-year-old has turned down a number of contract offers from the Blades, who look nailed on to be playing Championship football next season.

It has been reported that United were open to offers for Lundstram during the January transfer window so that they got some kind of fee for one of their prized assets.

The former Everton trainee could have been available last summer but Sheffield United activated a clause in his contract that extended his deal by a further 12 months.

“It’s the same situation, everything is still on the table,” said Lundstram earlier this month.

“We’ll see what happens. Of course, (speculation) is bound to happen but I’m here and while I am here I’m committed, as you’ve seen in my performances – 110 per cent. No-one can question that.

“Who knows what will happen but while I’m here, I’ll give everything.”

3-0 to 3-4?

Jonathan Van Tam is warning that if we are complacent in our fight against the virus, we run the risk of turning a 3-0 lead into a 3-4 defeat. In Palace terms, we obviously had the horror story of Swansea a few years ago, and I vaguely recall surrendering a 3-0 lead at home to Stockport to draw 3-3 some time in the 90s.

But when (if ever) have we lost after being 3-0 up?

A question for you maths geniuses

Long story short. I have a patio table with a glass top. Glass shattered and needed to replace. Established glass needed to be 47” diameter x 3/16 thick (sorry about the imperial measurements). Frame of table has a lower rim of 47 1/8 and upper rim of 46 7/8.
I got a piece of glass to replace of 47” (although it came in at 46 15/16.

Anyway, it fit through the lower rim like a sausage up a shirt sleeve and barely (not 100%) is retained by the upper rim.

My question is… it would seem a 47 ¼ diameter would have been better, but how the heck did/does that fit though a 46 7/8 rim?

Are the effing HMRC robbing people on inward goods?

5 faulty xbox 360 bought on ebay UK for £50 knowing they were coming from EU

Fair enough that ebay added on UK VAT to the tune of £15.20 (there wouldn't have been anything added if it was GB to GB) so that was paid during checkout thinking that would be it, parcel will come through directly as the UK VAT has been paid.

But no, Parcel Force are holding it and asking for VAT to be paid on it to the tune of £44.20 + handling fee £12, = 56.40 (they pass on the 44.20 to gov.uk)

I went thru various HMRC "help" lines and eventually explained to someone that a/ the VAT being asked for is wrong as the machines are faulty/parts and b/should there be any VAT paid at all, seeing as ebay have already collected the £15.20 and have submitted it to HMRC (or at the end of the month or whenever).

After consulting with manager, HMRC person says that two VAT charges are valid and the second one is called UK import VAT, are they taking the p1ss!?

Maybe not, but it sounds like it to me

Gas Pipework

In my hour of need, I turn to the BBS to see if anyone has any answers.

I am looking at having some work done to improve an existing conservatory on our house - new walls, windows, roof - basically replacing the structure that's already there. The initial plan with the company we were using was to use the existing foundations and footing to build on and they came out to do a test dig to see if what was there was suitable.

The location they did the dig happened to reveal a gas pipe buried in the ground, which is either extremely close to or actually built into the foundations in some way - the guess is that it is not built in to the foundations, but comes within a cm or two of being. The way the pipe has been "protected" with concrete means it's not easy to tell without ripping up paving slabs. What they did say though was that the entire base will need replacing as a result - at obvious additional expense. The existing conservatory wouldn't pass current building regulations from the way it's been built (which doesn't surprise us as the person we bought off seemed to cut every corner he could).

We have the gas board coming out tomorrow to tell us if the pipe is live or not. If they are the ones to move it (and I assume they have to be if it's live) then they cannot do that until May at the earliest (as they have furloughed most of the staff for that department, except for emergencies) but if the pipe does turn out to be not in use, who is able to move / remove this? Is it still the gas board, or would the builders be able to do it themselves?

Thanks in advance, oracle of all wisdom that is the BBS

Long Covid

Thread specifically about Long Covid.

Interested to hear your experiences. How long it lasted? Did anything help? Any point in going to the doctors?

Mine is only mild but it still really pisses me off. I had covid early Jan. A few days where I spent the mornings in bed knackered and dizzy but no biggie. I was mid cycling challenge when I got it, so jumped on my bike the day isolation finished feeling pretty good and had a few beers that evening thinking all is well. Felt awful the next day and that carried on for a couple of weeks. Foggy headed, often dizzy, occasional aches and headaches. Just over a week ago I thought I was ok again. Went for a less challenging bike ride, no booze after. Felt like crap again ever since and if anything it's getting worse. Some evenings I'm absolutely fine but it comes back. Don't think the Dr's can do much other than prescribe patience but I do have a blood test booked next week.

So keen to hear other experiences...

It's good fun - been playing around for a month or so and it makes non-Palace football far more interesting. It's a fantasy football platform where you buy player cards (backed by the blockchain so they can't be duplicated) and enter them into free tournaments for prizes.

Anyone not shy of crypto and with an interest in scouting and making money on global football leagues, this will be up your street.

Happy to answer any questions if anyone is interested! Let me know before you sign up as I have a referral code that gets you a free card once you've made your first splash.

Biggest Shithouse win ever?

I am wracking my brains this morning trying to think of any other Palace win that I can remember that was so dramatically against the run of play. In my mind nothing tops last night but I may be forgetting a similar smash and grab? So my question to the BBS - have we ever stolen 3 points quite so hilariously on the back foot?

Most goals conceded in the first and last ten minutes

samedi 20 février 2021

To view the link you have to Register or Login

It’s seems like the first ten minutes are the problem, nine goals conceded (five of them in the first five minutes). But it’s nice to know we have also conceded nine goals in the last ten minutes. Both are the most of any team.

Although the conceding in the first five minutes has nearly all been in the last couple of months.

Crystal Ball: Scum (a)

Dunk
Mac Allister 2

Eye-dee

Anyone have any contact details for Ivan ?

Suggestion: Ben Davies

(The centre back, not the left back)

How about this guy in the summer?

Obviously there’s a lot of football to be played between now and the end of the season. However it seems that Davies is not getting a look in, currently Kozak, Henderson, Phillips are all ahead of him. When Van Dijk, Gomez, Matip and Fabinho are back, he’ll be well down the list.

Before he joined Liverpool he would’ve been on many clubs radar as ‘cream of the championship’ player.

25, left sided centre back, could be a good shout. Liverpool are known (by no one more than us) to be tough negotiators when selling their players, so it has to be for the right price.

PC monitor that doubles up as a TV?

Is there such a thing?

Have put a desk in our spare bedroom, and would love to get a wall mounted monitor (one on a swing arm).

Currently we have a TV on a swing arm in that room.

Should I give up on the TV and just get a monitor (27 inch would be the maximum size I reckon)? Or can I get something that is both a monitor and a TV? Just need it to connect to a TV aerial socket, not Sky or anything.

And budget won’t be loads either.

This is probably a dumb question, any advice very welcome. Thanks in advance.

Burnley lack of diversity

Did they field only white players against us last week?

I think they only have two black players in their squad (someone can verify that please)

Is it Dyche or a Burnley thing?

Customs Invoice help

Hello hello,

Just after some advice really. Ordered some stuff from Spain in December (15th and 16th) which was then shipped on the 16th / 17th. Well before Brexit. Anyway after almost 2 months of chasing the package finally turns up, allegedly held at customs.

Anyway I received an invoice from FedEx/ TNT today asking me for £111.29 in customs fees to be paid before 19th March. They also sent a leaflet basically stating I have been sent this as the shipper has stated I am the payer of these fees.

Has anyone had a similar situation before? As far as I am concerned I placed the order in December and it was shipped in December well before the UK left the EU and thus shouldn't have even been subject to any post brexit fees / being held at customs as it should have arrived before the 31st December.

I've written as much to FedEx/ TNT but to be honest I can imagine them either writing back tough shit, or speak to the people who you ordered with. So if anyone has had a similar situation, and has any advice, or if anyone knows where I stand legally on this, it would be really helpful for some pointers please. :) Thanks.

Anyone else excited about this? This is possibly the single most important space exploration mission since the moon landings. A sophisticated robot where the primary mission will be to hunt out signs of life. It will touch down in a mind boggling difficult maneuver that could all go very expensively wrong. I will be watching live later through my fingers. I actually feel a little stressed about it! Anyone else going to watch the show later?

Let’s go for it V Brighton

I just watched the press conference for the match against Brighton. Roy says how he reiterates keep it tight and compact for the first 15 minutes. I say boll**ks go like we did against Man Utd away. Push hard for the first 20 then reassess.

Why not we aren’t immediately faced with regelation, and quite honestly his job might depend on it. Go hard or .... come on its Brighton. What do others think?

Spinning Bike Recommendations

Has anyone invested in a spinning bike during lockdown (or relatively recently?)

I'm looking for something that closely resembles one you'd get in a gym spin studio, not an old school upright exercise bike, nor something that's looking to emulate a road bike ride.

We don't need anything fancy dan that links to a Zwift subscription or anything like that, just a decent quality and sturdy studio bike with variable resistance.

Any recommendations?

Omegle

I wouldn't call myself at the forefront of social media but I thought I was aware of the major players, then saw this article today on BBC news

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Quote:

Omegle: Children expose themselves on video chat site

A BBC investigation into the increasingly popular live video chat website Omegle has found what appear to be prepubescent boys explicitly touching themselves in front of strangers.

Omegle links up random people for virtual video and text chats, and claims to be moderated - but has a reputation for unpredictable and shocking content.

Global child protection groups are increasingly concerned about predators using the site to gather self-generated child sexual abuse material.

The founder of the website, Leif K Brooks, told the BBC his site had increased moderation efforts in recent months.
Never heard of Omegle, simply shocking though. Anyone actually used it here?

Listening to podcasts on a computer

mercredi 17 février 2021

I have started to listen to more podcasts. There's an ever-growing number and lots of features about them.

On my old Mac, I downloaded a lot of BBC radio ones, normally direct from the BBC website. I catalogued them with iTunes, then I listened to them offline, either on my Mac, or on the move on my iPod.

But I am struggling with newer and non-BBC podcasts. Many seem to be geared to listening via streaming, not to be downloaded.

An example is 'We didn't start the fire' ...

To view the link you have to Register or Login

which was reviewed in last Wednesday's Metro. At the foot of the page, it offers you the choice:

Listen on Spotify
Listen on Apple Podcasts

I guess these will just open up the application if you have it, and then stream the podcast via the application. Like many other software things now, it's probably geared to smartphone users - I don't have a smartphone. I have, though, just bought an HP all-in-one desktop PC with Windows 10 home. This is going to replace my 12 year old desktop Mac.

So … can I download podcasts like 'We didn't start the fire' and listen later on my new Windows 10 PC, or do I have to stream them on Spotify or similar?

Rumour: Radu Dragusin

In light of the somewhat downbeat atmosphere, I decided that a rumour, albeit a touch tenuous, might be a brief but welcome distraction.

Young centre back, cool name, only Juve, Leipzig and Newcastle to fend off. One out of three ain't bad :D Though if he's decent I wouldn't rule him out as he'd not necessarily be back of the queue with the state of our walking wounded/geriatrics.

Usual banter or grain of truth?

To view the link you have to Register or Login

The link above is an article in the Brighton and Hove Independent, asking the question; 'Do Crystal Palace fans secretly want their club to be more like Brighton?'

Yes, it can be dismissed as the usual, provocative, build-up banter. Or can it? Pretty sure none of us want to have reached the PL how Weed did it but can we honestly say we don't envy how their club is run, even if we dismiss, in turn, how they got their opportunity to be a PL club?

Is there anything we can learn from Bright*n, aside from being lucky enough to have an unbelievably generous Sugar Daddy, get away with some dodgy financial practices, seem to avoid injuries every season and play top teams just when they are playing their worst? Hand on heart and partizan considerations aside, can we take any lessons from how Weed handle themselves or is it simply down to incredibly fortuitous financial benevolence and luck on their part? I think it's a real question, given this crossroads we are at right now.

Old Formations - 1950s - 1960s

Does anyone know what the formation Palace used in the 1950's and 1960's and when teams started switched from the old WM formation to 424, looking around on the web it looks like maybe around the 1950's.
I'm producing some palace records (something to do during this lockdown!) about line-ups so any information what be helpful

For Wilbrahim, best to watch from about 1hr 20 because then he talks about Holloway etc who gets a lot of positivity, but also Parish whom he is negative about.

Ships' whole one is pretty good. Jordan and Dowie are negatively regarded. Warnock (at Sheff Utd) and briefly Kember and Lombardo are positive mentions.

Rotten from top to bottom

Ok I’ve had time to digest that ‘performance’ this afternoon and it’s blatantly obvious that it’s not just Roy & The Players that are hugely under performing and that there is something absolutely rotten at this club from the very top to the very bottom.

The Top:-

American Owners who we all know want out - and haven’t put a penny in since arriving...... even the White Elephant of the new stand they have ‘ring fenced’ money for hasn’t arrived.

Steve Parish:- I loathe him. Not just for the E400 sh!t he did to so many fans, the sycophantic love of the HF, the way he can’t even sort out a refund policy that makes sense for Season Ticket Holders, his fair weather tweets when things are going ok but complete oblivion when they don’t, the list is almost endless ..... bar the fact that ‘he saved the club’ - which ultimately is why so many still love him - and I get that - I’m just over it as being his one virtue. We need more. He needs to be better. He has let the club stagnate with one ridiculous decision after another and needs to take a grip of this and do something about what is so obvious to see. Why has he let 12 players contracts expire (how are they going to be motivated to put the extra in for a club who they won’t play for next season?), why are we still so poor on the pitch? Why are we not making any progress with the White Elephant stand? Why has he invited ‘Investors’ into the club who don’t invest?

I just hope it’s not a case of too little too late this Summer (as I fully expect it to be) ..... otherwise what’s been the point of the last x amount of years in the Premier League & what do we have to show for it? Finger out Steve!

Roy:-

Amazing job for the first couple of years. To steady the ship the way he did earns him the right to leave the club in high regard and with his head held high....... but Roy, please leave the club before you tarnish this. As pitiful performance after pitiful performance is thrust upon us each week it’s obvious you’ve now run your race and are bereft of any fresh ideas. There is no Plan B and Plan A is tiresome to watch and has been easily tactically conquered by pretty much every opposing manager. You can see it in the performances and the players demeanour that they’ve given up too. By all means stay as an adviser to Steve or if the new manager needs any assistance but if not go and enjoy your retirement as you’ve certainly earned it over the many years of great service to Football and these last few years to Palace.

The Players:-

Gutless, heartless, bottle jobs. A lot of them are an utter disgrace to the shirt with their recent ‘efforts’. Everyone knows we have a couple of exceptional exceptions but they can’t carry the team (and especially from the physio room). Where is your passion? Where is your fight? Are you saying that technically the Leeds & Burnley (twice) players are superior to you - or do they show more willing to run that extra yard, put the extra ounce of effort in, want it more and will fight for it more?!? You should be ashamed of yourselves - we’ve had so many technically useless players on tiny wages compared to most of you over the years .... but at least they cared, fought and tried - a few of you are playing like mercenaries. But it’s perhaps not all your fault. Steve Parish has to take some of the blame for running down your contracts and leaving your futures insecure. Why risk injury when in a few months you won’t have an income? Where is your motivation if you’ve got one eye elsewhere? I get it.

So, in summary there is so much wrong at this club that it’s hard to see how so much can be improved by the start of next season as without vast improvement from top to bottom there will only be one result ...... relegation. Then what has actually been achieved?

The solutions can only come from the top and filter down. Has Steve got it in him to regenerate this club? Have the Americans got any desire to and if not will they take a loss on their stake if someone that has wants to buy in and invest (if there even is any one)? Will the right new manager be appointed by Steve and given the funds needed to regenerate the playing squad?

I certainly hope Steve plays a blinder.... I hope the Americans leave or back Steve.

I hope Roy’s replacement is bought in ASAP to give him time to assess the playing squad in real premier league games rather than mere friendlies against Bromley, Crawley and a tour of some non-descript footballing nation..... while picking up 6-10 points to ensure survival this year. I hope he is backed to sign hungry, young, talented players who give us some form of identity back & have pride in playing for Palace and show it by giving 110% every game and allowing their technical ability to shine under the new manager.

I want to feel excited about watching Palace again. I hate the complete lethargy around the club that has been festering over the last couple of years. Make it fun and entertaining again.... don’t leave it too little and too late!

Health reforns

So, the government has announced plans to reform the NHS. I'm surprised this hasn't had a thread of its own.

Two observations from me

a) it's a pretty damning indictment of the Tories own reforms under Cameron (and Lansley as Health Secretary) - and getting rid of them is, imo, a good thing

b) but is this really the right time for another major structural change?

Photo Album/Viewer Program

I wondered if anyone here could help me please?

I have a few thousand digital photos of family, friends, holidays, days out etc. I currently have my photos sorted into folders in "My Documents" on my PC. I have a few main folders with multiple folders inside them which are titled/sorted by date.

I'm looking for a program/album to display them all. I don't want my photos uploaded & shared online. I wanted to be able to add a description to each of the photos (names of people in the photo, where it was taken etc)

I'd prefer a free to use program or a program with a one-off payment. I don't want any monthly or yearly bills.

I tried XnView earlier but it wasn't what i was looking for.
Not very clued up with this sort of thing, so thought i'd ask for some help.

Many thanks

Injuries

Our injury list is comparatively shocking compared to the rest of the Premier.

Some clubs have the same number out..but no other club is close to our stat of having so many out for a predicted 30+ days...and Zaha and Tomkins are listed as such.

How come Spurs get double tapped Kane back so quickly following him missing half of last season...but we lose possibly our two most important players until Easter.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Burnley

We simply have to shuffle the pack after that. Was PVA injured? Bizarre Roy took him off ahead of Mitchell otherwise. Let's assume he isn't and one of the Macca's are back:

Guaita

Clyne Kelly Kouyate PVA

Ayew Macca 1 or 2 Jairo Eze

Benteke Bats

subs

Butland
Mitchell
Cahill
Dann
Mateta
Townsend
Luka
Wickham
U23 winger

If Jimmy and James are both out then Kouyate in the middle and a reprieve for Cahill

Premier Sports question

Alright Chaps and Chapesses, just a quick one but as most of you probably know I watch a lot of European football (Spanish / Italian etc). On my Virgin Media I pay £10 a month to have Premier Sports which also includes La Liga TV which I can watch at home.

But supposedly I can also watch these channels on an app on my phone, for when I am out and about, but I cannot work out for the life of me how to do so, does anyone know? When I have looked at the app before it asks me to sign in to my account, but I don't have an account as it comes as part of my Virgin package.

Finishing above Arsenal

dimanche 7 février 2021

In our entire history, there are only two clubs we’ve never finished above in the league: Liverpool and Arsenal.

With 16 games remaining, we are 2pts behind Arsenal with a game in hand. Still don’t think we’ll manage to finish above them, but thought it would give a bit of interest as the season draws to what looks like a boring mid table close (I’m fully aware I’m tempting fate) to see if we can break a long standing hoodoo.

The closest we’ve ever finished behind The Gunners was believe it or not, our relegation season in 94/95, just 6pts behind. In fact, in 1993 - the Oldham relegation season - we were only 7pts behind them.

Despite finishing third in 1991, we were still 14pts in their wake as they claimed the title with only one defeat all season.

Here’s the history of how many points we’ve finished behind our North London rivals each season:

69/70: 15 pts
70/71: 30
71/72: 23
72/73: 27

79/80: 12
80/81: 34

89/90: 14
90/91: 14
91/92: 15
92/93: 7

94/95: 6
96/97: 45
04/05: 50

13/14: 34
14/15: 27
15/16: 29
16/17: 34
17/18: 19
18/19: 21
19/20: 13
20/21: ?

No I’m not a troll just miffed

So I watch West Ham , Leicester , and Aston Villa all really entertaining eye catching upper table. It hurts because none of the above is particularly, a huge Leeds like club :jerkit: is Steve Parish a thinner Mike Ashley in disguise or are we a progressive club err No we are not. We avoid relegation by employing negative managers. No Wilf no win. So if the hamstring is bad trust me with our last two months of fixtures we could go down. If Wilf goes in the summer let’s all get ready for the championship play offs sorry perhaps it’s just me.

CPFC Sent Me Signed Card & Flag For My Father's Funeral

What a fantastic club Crystal Palace is as after being informed by the CPFC DSA of my 91 year old fathers sad death through Covid 19 they contacted me as they want to provide a CPFC tribute for his many years of support at his funeral, I am truly moved at this wonderful gesture.

Today I received a fully signed CPFC sympathy card and a flag from the club for my 91 year old Palace supporting father to be used at his funeral.
This is a wonderful gesture from our amazing club.

Aja

Having got my Dad's 1979 Pioneer PL L1000 repaired recently, my mint condition of Aja by the one and only Steely Dan has arrived and as I type this post I'm listening to Mr Fagen sing the Deacon Blues.

I am a mere ameteur, but I have always felt this album is something special. Since listening to it on CD in the old Ford Galaxy back when I was very small on the drive down the M4 to West Wales from London with my Dad, it has regularly been a part of good times and memories in my life.

Sadly the old man has past along with Mr Becker, but the music lives on, seemingly timeless and unmistakeable.

Is there anyone out there for whom this record brings back special memories? Who thinks the album is more than just a collection of songs? I'd love to know!

Common market option .... is it time to partly rejoin ?

With the NI problems and rising problems within the EU of late, is now the time to try for a B membership of the EU based on trade only?
A Norway lite option?
Friendship..
Trade..
Free movement of taxpayers (jobs)
Education .. you take the UK funding and go on the UK or EU scheme..
Join Schengen ...
Single market but with an independent court process on disputes...
Plus a bit more maybe..

I always thought Dave trying for a better non Fed deal should have been after the Leave vote.
I would happily have voted to stay in such a deal.

Next Manager OUT

mercredi 3 février 2021

What a shit appointment Parish.

He's never even found the dressing room in the first place to be able to lose it.

The players look confused, even Guita doesn't know whether to come or stay and why he plays that donkey Mateta I will never know.

We should have kept Hodgson and Benteke. Next manager out, time for next next manager in

Suggested Team and Formation For: Leeds (a)

Obviously a difficult one without knowing wether Zaha will be fit or not, but assuming he is not I would go:

Guaita
Clyne - Dann - Cahill - van Aanholt
Kouyate - Milivojevic - Riedewald
Ayew - Mateta - Eze

Butland, Kelly, Mitchell, Townsend, Benteke, Batshuayi

Pack out the midfield, Eze and Ayew to draw fouls and Hopefully Mateta as a focal point. With 3 defensive minded midfielders we’d have more than enough confidence to push those full backs up high.

Our current injury list:
Ward, Ferguson, Tomkins, Sakho, McCarthy, McArthur, Schlupp, Zaha

Hopefully Zaha is fit for this (so we don’t play anything like the team above!) and at least one of the midfielders so that we have options.

Leeds Utd Away - Referee Appointment

Dream team vs Leeds Utd ...... Andre Marriner is ref and Kevin Friend is VAR!!

Oh well.... at least Wilf won’t get sent off for clapping if he’s not playing!!

Universe facts.

I have been listening to a Brian cox podcast, it hurts my head what he explains!

Anyone interested in this and have some decent facts?

Life After Smug Eddie

Bournemouth sack Tindall mid season after 4 losses.....still in the play off spots, 6 points off third, 8 points off automatic....life not so rosy on the coast anymore obviously.

#CPFC Twitter

I know I'm gonna have some queue up to accuse me of trying to pour negativity on an excellent night (our 500th PL point, no less), but I feel this needs to be brought into the open.

Search "Andros" on twitter and the comments are disgusting. Death threats, racist comments, being called a terrorist... Beyond sick.

Not that it should matter at all, but this is after a win FFS - and some pondlife feel it acceptable to openly chat this kind of shit.

Surely there has to be something that can be done about this? If I were andros (or Troy, his father, who's the head of Kick it Out IIRC), I'd be demanding something done, and possibly handing in a transfer request.

Such a sad note to end the night on.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Newcastle (away) 02/02/21

Phew made hard work of that. Awful second half. If only we could have attacked with the same purpose as we did in the first but the passing was abysmal - again !
Newcastle weren't up to much despite missing a few chances. Only Wilson showed for them. He was a pain all evening.

Guaita 7 Some good saves

Clyne 7 Another good game, got forward when he could. Certainly deserves his place

Dann 7 In my mind he was too slow for their first goal. A quicker and sharper defender would have won the tackle out on the touchline. However he recovered and put in a solid performance

Cahill 7 Great goal and back to his best.

PVA 6 Good first half but so many passes of his went astray second half.

Wilf 5 Not really in it. Caused them no problems.

Luka 5 Second half passing was dreadful.

Riedwald 7 Hope he keeps his place. Tired second half but did well.

Eze 7 Would have been a 6 but for his perfect cross for the second. Still needs works on his tackling and heading, which were non existent tonight.

Ayew 7 Worked hard all night. Held the ball up and gained fouls.

Bats 5 Mr Offside. Dear oh dear…I don’t think he can have much between his ears. Intelligent footballer he is not. He offered nothing tonight.

Subs.
Townsend 5 Passing awful and he couldn’t even pass into the goal. What a miss.
Benteke 5 - No better than Bats.

Kouyate N/a

Roy 7 Got the right result and as he said afterwards he was frustrated with the way our passing deteriorated.

Southend Palace??

Long story but I've recently relocated to Southend/Rayleigh and was just wondering if there are any Palace in the vicinity

Palace and Brighton - the early days of the rivalry

I am being asked about the early days of the rivalry with Brighton and would like to hear about the following games:-

11th August 1973 a pre-season friendly at Brighton that we lost 1-2. Pat Saward was Brighton manager, Brian Clough did not arrive until November 1973 so any talk of a Clough/Allison meeting is wide of the mark. Was there any inkling of rivalry then.

17th August 1974 Division Three at the Goldstone. Clough had already gone leaving Peter Taylor in charge for this opening game of the season. Despite playing Brighton off the park, lost 0-1. Brighton then still known as the Dolphins.
Was there any disturbance after the game.

18th March 1975 Return League game at Selhurst Park. Palace won 3-0.
Was there any 'Seagulls' noise from the Brighton fans.

I am well aware after Alan Mullery arrived at Brighton so please try and avoid this part of the rivalry.

Captain Tom RIP

RIP Captain Tom, proper national treasure

Andre Villas Boas

All kicking off with him at Marseille over the signing of Nitcham from Celtic.

Offered his resignation in an extremely bizarre turn of events!

Discussion: Who Would You Push Off The Cliff Edge?

Now the window dust has settled it seems worth having the discussion on the players out of contract in 5 months time. Lots of stuff scattered in various threads about who goes who stays but what are the wider views? Here goes...assumes Mitchell already renewed. And renew means offer new contract, obviously no guarantee they would accept

Hennessey - release. Surprised he didn’t get a loan if he is close to fitness to get ready for the Euros but now very surplus for us.

Henderson - happy to stay as a No 3 so renew until/unless a good youngster becomes available

Clyne & Ward - renew one assuming Ferguson is ready for 21/22 (or sooner). My preference would, sadly, be Clyne to stay

Van Aarnholt - renew, provides a good option along with Mitchell at LB

Sakho - release
Cahill & Dann - possibly keep one, are either interested in coaching?

McCarthy - may have already triggered a renewal clause but would renew and then let Macca go next year.

Townsend - offer to renew on squad deal rather than starter deal. Worth a place in the match day 18 but not a regular starter.

Benteke - release
Wickham - very sadly release, could have been so good but for injuries.

(Bats - nothing to show we should buy him so far)

Dreher - is his contract up? What is his fitness position? Hopefully he can come back so renew.

ROY - move on, we need a change to at least a bit more of an attacking style and the squad probably needs a fresh pair of eyes as we get younger players in as well.

Trialist: Danny Imray

As mentioned in here: To view the link you have to Register or Login

Danny Imray was the RB who played for the U23's today. Plays for Chelmsford City.

Dustin Diamond RIP

Saved by the Bell” actor Dustin Diamond, 44, has died after a three-week fight with cancer, according to his representative. Diamond was best known for playing Screech on the hit sitcom, which aired from 1989 to 1993.

Rumour: Jake O'Brien

Sounds like one for the 23s:

However, one player who won’t be involved with as City begin life in the second tier is centre-back Jake O’Brien.

The 19-year-old was a rare bright spot in what was a difficult season for the Rebel Army and he attracted interest from abroad, with Crystal Palace set to sign him.

City are entitled to compensation for developing O’Brien, who came up through the ranks, but it is believed that they have made a deal with Palace whereby a smaller up-front fee is paid and the club will be entitled to a percentage of any future sale of the defender.

According to The Sun.

Good move for the lad.

No Sleeve Sponsor?

Anyone know why the IQONIQ sleeve sponsor was missing from all the shirts for the Wolves game?

Team/Squad Photos - 2003-2005

Anyone got a copy of a 2003/04 or 2004/05 team group photo with names that they could upload please?

I thought I'd easily be able to find these on google or ebay, but the best I've found have no names attached.

The reason I'm looking, is to identify an autograph from a member of those squads. It could well be a member of the backroom staff, but thats just a guess. The autograph in question is on this thread:

Discussion: Still a 27 man squad by my count

Hennessey & Wickham weren't registered in the last window, Meyer left & Mateta came in.

Will there be a dash to offload 2 players when the window closes?

Hennessey & Wickham would be the ideal candidates to loan out from our point of view. Neither are fit now but I'm guessing both are 'expected' to be fit for a few games before the end of the season.

Is anyone else in the running?
