5 faulty xbox 360 bought on ebay UK for £50 knowing they were coming from EU
Fair enough that ebay added on UK VAT to the tune of £15.20 (there wouldn't have been anything added if it was GB to GB) so that was paid during checkout thinking that would be it, parcel will come through directly as the UK VAT has been paid.
But no, Parcel Force are holding it and asking for VAT to be paid on it to the tune of £44.20 + handling fee £12, = 56.40 (they pass on the 44.20 to gov.uk)
I went thru various HMRC "help" lines and eventually explained to someone that a/ the VAT being asked for is wrong as the machines are faulty/parts and b/should there be any VAT paid at all, seeing as ebay have already collected the £15.20 and have submitted it to HMRC (or at the end of the month or whenever).
After consulting with manager, HMRC person says that two VAT charges are valid and the second one is called UK import VAT, are they taking the p1ss!?
Maybe not, but it sounds like it to me
