iphone sale - Help sought

jeudi 3 décembre 2020

Hello guys and gals,

I know the BBS probably isn't the obvious place for a thread like this but often there are quite a few helpful and knowledgeable posters and really I'm just after a bit of advice.

Basically the wife and I have had new phones on contract for about 6 weeks now. The wife's previous phone was an iPhone XS, which again we received from EE around October 2018ish time, and she decided to sell it on Facebook Marketplace (against my better judgment I might add!), anyway the chap turned up, looked the phone over, called his wife using his sim (we assume his wife), all happy, pays the wife the money. Now this phone is pristine, never been dropped, never been in water, never been repaired or altered in any way. Arrived sealed in its box from EE and so on.

So now the guy has been calling etc since Tuesday evening claiming the screen is a replacement screen, and he wants his money back. We have tried to tell him it is as it was brand new, but he keeps on. He sent me a video Wednesday of him and his wife visiting the Apple store at Westfield, he showed a staff member who said the screen is a replacement and he should be careful buying online because of scammers (I will be contacting Apple about this separately as that is a piss take and I expect them to take action). Anyway I said to this guy, come to an Apple shop with me then and we will get it verified (on advice from our own visit to the shop in Kingston yesterday), otherwise feel free to call the police if you really want.

Now I have an appointment booked Saturday to meet him at the Apple store, which is fine I know the phone as sold to him was real. But what has been going over in my head the last day or so is basically that he has had the phone 3 days already. He could easily have swapped the phone, or the screen himself in that time, plus the wife never took down the serial numbers of her phone.

I'm a little unsure of what to do, or what to expect if I am totally honest. Mates from work were telling me to just block him and not turn up, but he knows our house. To be honest whatever is said by Apple I know the phone my wife had and sold was real and as was on Day 1, so this dickhead won't be getting any money back regardless, but just after some advice, plus is there any legal standing with regards to this? I've never used FB marketplace so I don't know how it all works. The other thing I should add is that the payment was made on PayPal.

Cheers everyone,

LE.
