Reported by the BBC today that Shaun Derry will leave Oxford United to 'pursue new opportunities'. Is it likely that he will return to the club in a coaching capacity? As an ex Captain, and great motivator he could be a useful addition to the backroom staff.

Rules are as follows
1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.
2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)
3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).
4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.
5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.
6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.
7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.
8 Singles and upwards accepted.
9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.
10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2
11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.
12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.
13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..
14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You cant shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.
15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher
16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)
17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

Zionism communism the Rothschilds global power control???
So months back I posted ... Churchill how the **** did he start the War .... To a bunch of Adolf Hitler lovers who were talking shit on a Holocaust denial wankers video who were blaming Churchill not Hitler for the war.
Only to be linked to this month's later telling me this proves Churchill was the baddie.
This is the first video...
This is the crazy link sent to me ...... Is this all looney made up crap?
If the Maxists and zionists are as one ...... How come Jeremy Corbyn hates the Jews?

Has anyone tried water fasting?
First of all what is it? Water fasting is a period when a person eats no food and drinks only water.
I got chatting to someone a few months ago (very active 30 something) who adopted a water fasting plan into their lifestyle every 4-6 weeks 18 months ago, and it's had such a positive impact on their life in a whole host of ways. It is an area that really intrigues me, coupled with the self discipline it brings. It provides a self-healing capacity to an individuals body. Several studies have also shown it lowers the risk of cancers, heart disease and diabetes amongst other things. I'm on my second week of a 48-60 hour water fast. I'm fortunate where I work from home, and can avoid certain temptations other jobs can bring.
When I finished my first one last Friday, I felt amazing and actively wanted to go longer but my schedule didn't allow this. Some would assume that when you stop, you would demolish the first meal, but it was quite the opposite. I actually broke the fast with a small bowl of soup.
Some do it for the weight loss, but as someone who has struggled with anxiety in the past I felt so much better in myself after the first fast. Some imply that eating harmful ingredients like gluten affects our bodies ability to produce tryptophan and serotonin. Instead of producing these feel good chemicals, they are replaced with bad chemicals that could increase levels of depression and anxiety and other mental health issues.
It clearly isn't for everyone, and last week I really struggled on the second day but it is something that fascinates me coupled with the benefits of losing a little bit of timber.
Has anyone had any experience of it?
Adblock
I've used adblock on Chrome for years but more and more websites are now restricting access with adblock enabled, is there an adblock that can be used specifically for Youtube and not Chrome or is there a another newer form of adblock that is under the radar of the websites who refuse access to their site with adblock enabled?

Just throwing it out there as a good young player, currently playing in France, an international teammate of Wilf and at 21 a good Defensive midfielder. Think at some point he will find himself at some bigger clubs.
Recommend an architect
Hi all, can anyone recommend an architect for a single storey extension. Croydon area.
I've never had an extension built before so any tips or advice, do's or don'ts would be welcome.
I should add i'm going to employ a builder to do the works.
TIA.

This guy has had a great loan with Villa and looks to be fully fit.
From what I can see he signed a 4 year deal in 2015 and. Hasn't signed a new one so is out of contract in the summer but I could be wrong.

Merstham
Two years ago it was Reigate and last year it was Crawley. This year I'll be coming over with 50 French kids to Merstham towards the end of May. Just to clear things up, no I don't choose the destination. I work with a French organisation who then works with British organisations which take in foreign students for short stays somewhere south of London (generally Kent or Surrey).
So I'd be grateful for any tips concerning decent pubs and restaurants in and around Merstham since we do have a little free time in the evening.

Footballers Don't Know They're Born Today
No, this isn't a typo, Palace really did play away the day after a home game. The Leicester game was the one where George Wood resigned halfway through the second half when he raced out of the area and passed straight to a Leicester player leaving them to score an open goal from 30 yards.
We signed Perry Sucking a couple of weeks later...

Suggestions to help reverse the home results (and turgid displays)
Our home form has been hopeless for years, bar the odd good spell of a handful of games here and there. It's just that this season has really taken the piss: not just the awful record in terms of wins and goals scored, but also the limp, lifeless performances. We are so boring to watch it is testament to how good my fellow Palace supporters are that we even bother to turn up to Selhurst every other week. It needs changing, and I have some ideas, ranging from tweaks to something a little more drastic:
1) Make the pitch bigger
Not sure we could lengthen it, but could we make it wider at Selhurst next season? Teams come here to defend, perhaps more space would create more goalscoring opportunities for us?
2) The new Main Stand opportunity
Rather than doing what Liverpool did at Anfield and continuing to play at Selhurst whilst the building works go on, perhaps we should use the new development as an excuse to move out to a new stadium temporarily? Then it would be like 38 away games  Maybe then the new Main Stand could be finished more quickly, and that Selhurst Park would again feel like a 'new' stadium and more like an 'away' experience? Clutching at straws I know!
3) New playing style
Things are working away from home. But perhaps we need more creativity for the other 19 games? This would mean playing with a different style at Selhurst and would almost certainly require new playing personnel. Significant transfers are unlikely, so this is probably the most unrealistic option!
4) Change the manager
I broadly support Hodgson, but not sure how much longer I can endure the tedious Selhurst Park displays. Roy is also getting on anyway. I would like him to stay in the summer for at least one more season to see his contract out, but hopefully we are succession planning right now. Could a new manager that eventually comes in be suited to our current players, thus resulting in minimum upheaval, and yet also improve the home form? For me the best fit would be Sean Dyche. He plays 4-4-2 with a target man like we do, and yet their home form is fine. Not sure he would leave Burnley for us currently, but if they were relegated might we be able to attract him next summer?
Would welcome other people's thoughts :)

Julian Speroni for last game?
As it looks like it will be Speroni's final season would you go down the nostalgia route and put him in goal for the final game?
Personally, I would but losing the game could cost us a couple of million quid if we don't win.

Help me buy a TV
Can't believe my luck. Mentioned to my girlfriend how I might buy a Chromecast for our very dated Sony Bravia TV (it's very old) and she suggested buying a new TV.
Our screen is 40", but the total size with the huge bezel is 46" diagonal.
So we're looking at a max of 46" as we don't want it to take up any more room than it currently does, and ideally no more than £400.
Doesnt seem to be a huge amount out there under 50" these days. There's a Toshiba (43U6863) which seems like a very good spec for just £300. But I'm well aware that Toshiba aren't well thought of in the TV game, although it seems like their newer ones are getting good write ups.
Anyway, for those in the know, help me choose. Please. This is a rare occasion where I've been given a free pass to spend money on something fun.

Match Updates: April 26th - 28th
Starts tonight with Liverpool v Huddersfield.
The Scousers should do themselves a favour and throw the game and put themselves out of their misery. Its over.
Of course this is just the starter salad to the main banquet tomorrow:
Fulham v Cardiff followed by Brighton v Newcastle.
Those results go the way we want and the following 7 days might be the most amusing in Palace history.

Elections in Spain on Sunday
Spain votes on Sunday in general elections. We will have an extreme right wing party (Vox) represented in Congress for the first time since Franco's death - it is essentially a splinter group from the longstanding democratic right party, PP, beset by corruption scandals and recently led for many years by right centrist Mariano Rajoy. The other right wing parties have reacted to the growth of Vox by falling over each other to move further and further right. Some people suggest Vox may end up with as many as 80 representatives - certainly it is very hard to gauge quite how many they will have, and whether the three national right wing parties will together get a majority to govern, as they have in Andalucía. Suspicion is that it will depend on abstention on the left - again, as it did in Andalucía. Weather looks good for Sunday, luckily.
Champions League qualifying question
Just a quick one really, done a quick Google search but couldn't find anything but this was mentioned in a Bayer Leverkusen whatsapp group I am in.
If Eintracht Frankfurt finish in the top 4 (and qualify for the Champions League), and also win the Europa League (which qualifies for the Champions League), does that mean that the Fifth placed Bundesliga gets a spot in the Champions League, albeit the qualifiers?

80 feet tall trees under water
I saw on NatGeo Wild (TV). It was about Amazon forests in South America. The forests were flooded with water and only 15 feet of 90 to 100 feet tall trees were seen standing above the water. :hi:
The forests that you see worldwide with 80 to 100 feet tall trees, the whole forest in certain part of amazon were submerged under the flood waters.

Deloitte Football Money League report 2019
Decided to stick this here rather than under General Palace Discussion as we only get a small mention.
For what it's worth we have the 24th highest revenue of Euro169m in world football.
Now don't get too excited as Brighton are 29th with Euro157.4m.
Also to put it all in perspective Ajax only have revenues of Euro91.9m, which is definitely less than our wage bill!

Scottish Independence II
Probably of no surprise whatsoever but the process of trying to secure an Indyref2 begins in earnest;
Sturgeon in Holyrood today;
"The immediate opportunity we now have is to help stop Brexit for the whole UK - and we should seize that opportunity. But if that cannot be achieved, dealing with the consequences of Brexit and facing up to its challenges will be unavoidable.
"I believe that the case for independence is stronger than ever. I will make that case, but I know others take a different view.
"So, as we take the necessary legislative steps over the next few months, I will also seek to open up space for us to come together and find areas of agreement as mature politicians should."
But she warned that if the only alternative presented by opposition politicians was a "failed and damaging status quo", then "the process of change will pass them by and support for independence will grow".

Shefki Kuqi on Talksport
Long session with Shefki - he managed in Finland for a couple of years, and now looking for a job in England. Very well-spoken bloke, he must be a bit of a linguist - perfect English, Finnish (a difficult language, and he was a dodgy 'finisher' ;)), then maybe Albanian and Serbo-Croat too.

Don't worry it's not Kevin Friend or Andre Marriner.
Am I right in thinking Lee Mason was the ref who refused to send Francis Coquelin off despite him committing about five yellow card offences a few seasons back?
Not that it really matters now.
PS - Mike Dean is reffing the Brighton vs. Newcastle game at 17.30. He seems to like us so fingers crossed he does his best :p

How do you mash your potatoes?
This is not a euphemism...I'm a mashed potato enthusiast, so this is the thread for news and views, hints and tips on potato mashing techniques.
I'll set the ball rolling with my method.
Desirees are my potato of choice. Peel, cut and boil in the usual fashion. Drain thoroughly, whilst draining throw a large (and I mean large) knob of butter into the saucepan along with a generous sprinkling of salt. Add black pepper if you wish (I don't think it adds a great deal to mashed potato). Throw the drained potatoes on top of the butter to obtain a quick melt, then add some milk, erring on the side of caution (nothing worse than runny and soggy mash).
Now comes the key moment. You need a wooden spoon and one of those metal zig-zag mashers. The ones with the holes in don't work as well and I can't get on with ricers. Start by gently mashing the potatoes into the milk and butter mix. Once you've got the makings of a reasonable mash, switch to the wooden spoon and beat furiously, whipping some air into the mash. You will now probably need to add a little more milk to achieve the right consistency. Then repeat the masher-wooden spoon alternation at least twice more. You are aiming for a totally smooth mash which is light and fluffy but which will hold its shape when served on the plate. Taste for seasoning, add a little more salt if needed. When serving, a knob of butter melting atop the pile of mash is a nice flourish.
That's my method anyway. I have honed it to this over the years and it's unlikely to be bettered but I am open to alternative suggestions.
I appreciate that this will be a niche thread.

25 April, Garuda Select vs Crystal Palace U-18
Anybody know anything about this game.
U18 team from Indonesia in England at a training camp. They are playing 7 games including CPFC U18.
Apparently Dennis Wise is their Technical Director and Des Walker their head coach.
Games are being streamed over here. That's about all I know. Not sure where the game is being played. Internet searches don't give much detail.

Rumour: Jack Grealish
lundi 22 avril 2019
Crystal Palace have identified Jack Grealish as one player capable of helping fill the attacking void if they lose Wilfried Zaha.
Palace are open to letting Zaha leave this summer and value the influential forward at £80m.
Any money received from a sale would be reinvested in their squad with Aston Villa skipper Grealish, who also remains on Tottenham's long list of targets, in Palace's sights.

Bob Dylan
dimanche 21 avril 2019
I got into Bob properly about 8 years ago having been encouraged to do so by a songwriting mentor. I had some exposure to his stuff just through general life before as we all should but Id not sat down to really listen and appreciate what a great lyricist/artist he truly is.
Ive so far managed to get though the 60s albums up to and including Nashville Skyline. What I like is the variety of styles he uses, his reinvention in terms of genre that goes along that, and his brilliant use of words. He also comes across as a very humble guy, dedicated, almost monastic in his approach to making music.
Critical hat on - his voice isnt great but he has some versatility with it and ultimately those who say they cant get past the voice are clearly missing the point of him imho. Dylan for me is about content, what hes trying to tell us almost independent of aesthetic. He paints with words. Oh and he really is crap live (Albert Hall 2015 I think it was I saw him for the only time, it was quite dull).
So are there any fellow Bob fans on here? Would love to hear general thoughts too, how you think he fits in to the wider music picture - yes hes influential but why, is it justified? Cant wait to get my teeth into post-60s era Bob, suggestions for what to look out for? The answer my friend...

4-4-2 (Zaha and Benteke up front)
Can we all now agree that with a midfield lacking the quality of RLC and Cabaye that this is the only way to go? Its so bizarre that we played 4-4-2 all pre season and at the start of the season, played well and then jettisoned it for the failed 4-3-3. It doesnt work with our current personnel. Benteke has been fit since January. Its truly bizarre that it has taken Roy until April to see that Benteke and Zaha in a 2 (not a 3) is our most threatening frontline. Benteke needs a runner close by, and thats why he works so well with Zaha, especially away from home. Sign some proper attacking goal scoring wingers for the home games but keep the 4-4-2 and keep the narrow defensive mids for the away games. The team is working away from home. We just need to be more attacking at home. But 4-4-2 is here to stay, surely?

Robo Mowers
Anyone invested in one of these?
Just having the garden done and will have new turf laid that i want to keep looking good for as long as i can with minimal amount of work so have been looking at Robo Mowers on Yoootoob.
So far i've boiled it down to the Flymo 1200R and the Mcculloch ROB 1000 which seem the popular choice on a mid-range budget.
Any advice or things to avoid?

Don't Worry Bout A Thing Palace Stay Up With Ease
Just back from the Emirates after witnessing one of the the great Palace away performances and the Palace fans were in fine voice in appreciation of a Palace side written off by many but who all gave everything for the cause.
So nice to hear the Palace fans celebrating another Benteke goal and his fine flick on was seized upon by Wilf who neatly tucked away our second goal.
Palace looked dangerous every time that we attacked and Arsenal were never able to get their usual rhythmic passing going.
Nice to hear after the game Arsenal fans saying that Palace are a decent side.
There are only positives to take out of this game and Roy deserves huge credit for ensuring another season of avoiding the drop when many have had nothing good to say about him.
Starting Benteke over loanee Batshuayi was good management as were the timing of his substitutions.
The team spirit is there to see and this is not a struggling side.
Today's result is up there with the fine away wins at Chelsea and Man City.
Palace now have 42 points with 3 games left to play to add to that total.
WE ARE STAYING UP

When would be the right time for the owners to get the cheque book out?
Probably never, because we must live within our means etc etc, but when are we going to make some proper signings? Weve now beaten Man City and Arsenal away from home. We have players like Zaha and AWB who are top class. Our fans are brilliant. What needs to happen before they back us all up with some exciting young attacking players that could (and would imho) make a difference to our home form?
Hope we can keep this squad together and give Roy some money to spend this summer. With a couple of good signings we could compete for 7th place at an absolute minimum next season. COYP.

Champions Lague and Europa League
Currently only Man City or Liverpool can now win the Premier League and also the top six cannot be overtaken so are guaranteed European qualification.
The winners of the Champions and Europa League tournaments will qualify for direct entry to the group stages of next season's Champions League but only a maximum of 5 clubs can be entered from one country.
There is a possibility that Spurs could win the Champions League but fail to finish in a top four position whilst Chelsea or Arsenal could win the Europa League and also finish outside of the top four. In this scenario the fourth paced side would drop into the group stages of the Europa League and both winners qualify for the group stage of the Champions League. Only two teams would then qualify for the Europa League and The last place would go to Watford only if they win the FA Cup, as the runners-up no longer qualify if the winners are already qualified, but they would be guaranteed entry at the group level of the Europa League. If the EFL Cup had also been won by a side outside of the top six there could have been a scenario where the fourth placed side would not even qualify for Europe a maximum of seven teams are allowed in European competitions for one country.
The Champions League final will be played in Athletico Madrid's new stadium, Estadio Metropolitano, on June 1st which means that the new interpretation on handball leading directly to a goal will be in force so that LLorente's accidental handball goal would then be disallowed.
The Europa League will be played at The Olympic Stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan on Wednesday May 29th with kick off at 23:00 local time.(20:00 BST) The Heydar Aliyev International Airport is the only major airport in Baku although charter flights might also use the smaller Zabrat Airport. It would be interesting to see how they cope if both Arsenal and Chelsea qualify.

Suggestion: Lookman - Summer 19

Speculation Zaha summer 2019
Wilfried Zaha has revealed he is ready to leave Crystal Palace this summer.
In an exclusive interview with Sportsmail, Zaha put the big clubs on alert by outlining his ambitions to play for an elite side in the Champions League and challenge for trophies.
The 26-year-old former Manchester United winger said: 'I'm too ambitious. And not ambitious just to play for a top club, but to win things at club level and with the Ivory Coast.
'For me to be better, to achieve what I know I am capable of, I have to aim to play at the very highest level, to win trophies. I'm blessed to have come this far in my playing career. But I feel like there is so much more I have to offer.
'I have to experience the Champions League. I just need the opportunity, that's it. And I'll do the rest.'
Palace fended off interest in talisman Zaha last summer, persuading him to sign a £130,000-a-week, five-year deal that made him their highest earner.
As a result, it is going to take a hefty offer, well above £50million, before Palace do business.
But there is a growing feeling behind the scenes at Selhurst Park that this summer is the right time to let their best player leave if the price is right. Palace previously sold Zaha to United for £10m in 2013 before bringing him back two years later.
Arsenal are big fans of Zaha, while the prospect of a return to Old Trafford has increased following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's appointment as manager.
Zaha impressed Solskjaer when they worked together at Cardiff in 2014 the player was on loan and United have made signing a right winger their top priority.
Jadon Sancho tops United's list but Borussia Dortmund's 'not for sale' stance, plus rival interest from Paris Saint-Germain, represent considerable obstacles.
Zaha is also expected to have options abroad, including Inter Milan and Dortmund.
Chelsea whose transfer plans are dependent on their appeal against a two-window FIFA ban and Tottenham have been keen on Zaha in the past.

Things to look out for when buying a second hand car.
Looking to buy a second hand car this weekend. What should I be looking out for as never gone down the second hand route before.
50 Years Ago Today.
50 years ago today we beat Fulham 3-2 to gain promotion to the old First Division for the first time ever in the clubs history.
It was also my first ever live Palace game watching as an 8 year old. Half a century of joy and despair.

FYP fanzine: give it a try or fancy contributing?
Hello All
I took over as editor of FYP fanzine in February & our second issue was on sale at the Man City game.
I have about 100 copies left which I will take to Arsenal on Sunday & would love it if youd buy a copy. Its only £2 & is packed full of articles, great photos by Sebastian Frej & Jesse Boyces really thoughtful design.
I took over the editorial after chatting with Jim Daly & meeting with Andy Mitten who set up the Man United fanzine, United We Stand, from his bedroom in the late 80s.
The current issue has articles considering the football weve seen this season, a perspective of the Palace v Brighton game from both clubs points of view, a debate on VAR, interviews with Gary Issott, Alan Smith & Kenny Sansom & an excellent article on the Lower Holmesdale situation.
Id love the fanzine to be reflective of our fans & for supporters to feel that youve got a voice through it. Id welcome contributions - nostalgic ones, great away days, critiques, opinion pieces, views & reminiscences on Palace/Croydon/anything related to the club.
Im proud of it but I want it to be something fans look to buy. Give it a try if you can. The next issue will be out in September. If you have any feedback or would like to write something then please let me know: tommaslona@icloud.com

Car insurance advice
I've got a car and a van both with separate no claims bonuses. I take it that claims in either vehicle are separate but it seems the insurance companies don't. Two and a half years ago I backed my van into a GPO pole and because it was a new van I got it repaired under my comprehensive insurance. When I went to renew my car insurance they said I had failed to disclose an accident I'd had, at first I had no idea what they were talking about but then it clicked.
I'm just about to insure a new car and it asks have I had any accidents in the last 5 years? Well in my car, no, I have 15 odd years NCB so should I answer Yes or No.
I know technically I'm a higher risk because of the accident but it not on the insurance with the NCB.

Parking ticket advice.
jeudi 18 avril 2019
Not sure if anyone can help but just looking for some advice.
I will firstly give some background.
For the past 6 years or so I have been collecting my daughter from her dance class and parking in an open car park in Langley, Slough that has a 30 min free allowance and there was no need to display a ticket.
Moving on I did the exact same thing on another typical Saturday and this time I get a ticket sent from Parking eye telling me that my vehicle reg number xxxx xxx had been captured leaving and entering the car park without displaying a valid paid parking ticket. The total time I was parked was 18 minutes. They still operate a free thirty minute slot but you must enter your reg at the machine and display a ticket. In my opinion the new signage made it in no way clear to a regular user that the changes had been made.
Having looked online I decided to ignore the ticket thinking that the evidence that they presented to me made it clear that despite my oversight in not entering my reg, I had not stayed over the free 30 minute period and that common sense would prevail.
I have since got a county court aplication and they want 175 quid.
Should I pay or defend my case?
Smart arse answers welcome as well as it wouldn't be the BBS without them.

Bye Bye Weeds
Sad as it is, Ive had my own little prediction table going since 8 games left. At that point it looked like Cardiff were odds-on to join Hudders and Fulham, but since then the fact that everyone else down the bottom has won games (except Bri*hton) and Cardiff turning them over at their place and their dire loss of form My prediction table now has
Cardiff ending on 35 points W/D vs Fullham/us
Weeds ending on 34 points (possible point up at Newcastle) lose their remaining games all of which are against teams fighting for top 4/ championship - exception being Wolves away who might be on the beach.

Safe pub for away fans?
Before the match next Saturday I'm hoping to have a pint with an old friend who follows Everton around the country, and his dad. Can someone please suggest a "safe" pub for away fans, preferably one not far from a station
I was going to suggest Weatherspoons in Thornton Heath, which I used for that purpose before, but someone told me it closed some time ago
Many thanks

Being reported that he may be joining the WBA coaching team. He certainly seemed to fit in well with us and was clearly the go between during matches between Roy and the team. Steve P if you are reading this get him back.
Bands you should like, but dont
Inspired by the Joy Division thread, which are the bands that you feel that you really should like, but dont?
These would be bands that everyone that you know who has similar music tastes to you loves. Bands that are referred to as being influential by artists you love. Bands where you find you love all the other artists associated with them but you just dont see the attraction.
There are no enemies to be made here, if you dont get the appeal then they are just not for you.
Along with the aforementioned Joy Division I will confess that although I should like them, I have never understood why Roxy Music are so critically acclaimed.

One of the most underrated and criminally ignored bands this country has ever produced. I saw them many, many times, got to support them on a Dutch tour in 1981, and had the pleasure of getting to know the man a little in the late 80's.
Still one of the best live bands I've ever seen. Enjoy.

Never really listened to them decided to give it a try and am I alone in thinking they were shite. Ian Curtis was a tragic story but I honestly feel like if what happened didn't nobody would go on about them. I'm just curious to see if it's just me especially when I've heard people going on about them being better then The smiths and The Cure which after giving there album's a listen I find laughable. Also what the ****s that dance about.
Suggestion: Harry Wilson loan
It may be wishful thinking (I guess suggestions always are) but with Wilson doing so well for Derby this season I wonder if Liverpool may look to loan him to a Premier League club next season?
Been so impressed whenever ever I've seen him. Worth a phone call or two?

Once we're mathematically safe, should we start mixing the team up? Maybe try out some youngsters (are we allowed to play 10 year olds?) or swapping the positions in the team about, eg Kelly on the wing and Zaha at centre back? And of course, give Hennessey a run in the team.
Maybe start with the game against Cardiff...

PS5/XBox Two (Last Console Generation?)
To view the link you have to Register or Login
Not seen any details leaked out on the XBox Two (or whatever they call it) yet. I'm sure both will come out before the end of next year.
If history is any guide the next console generation would last until around 2027. With streaming options like Google Stadia rolling out, the need for a box that costs hundreds of dollars/pounds/euros seems like it will soon be obsolete. I'm sure Sony and Microsoft will cook up streaming competitors but not sure they will be able to convince people to plonk down console-type money in the future.

In an interview with Wired, system architect Mark Cerny confirmed that the new console will be powered by a third-generation AMD Ryzen CPU with eight cores built on the company's 7nm Zen 2 microarchitecture. It will be paired with a custom GPU, built on AMD's Radeon Navi family, that supports ray-tracing, an advanced lighting technique currently limited to high-end gaming PCs, and some form of immersive 3D audio. The PS4 successor will also support 8K graphics and, he said, ship with an SSD to accelerate rendering and reduce load times. According to Wired, Cerny illustrated this point by booting up Insomniac's Spider-Man game and showing how fast-travel times could be reduced from 15 to 0.8 seconds. The new system will have similar architecture to the PS4. It will, therefore, be backwards-compatible with PS4 games and support the current PlayStation VR headset. Cerny stopped short of confirming a new headset or any of the services that would be available on the console. He did state, though, that it will accept physical media just like the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro. |
Extinction Rebellion Protests
Any others on here been affected by the ongoing protests across the West End?
Despite all the arrests they still seem to have "control" of certain areas such as Oxford Circus and are even setting up temporary toilets.
Rumoured to go on for 2 weeks.

Learning a new language
Thinking of 'brushing up' on my very basic French from school, any advice on the best way going forward without a tutor?
I was thinking of buying a load of school text books and going back through them from primary school level and work my way through them, has anyone used a better method?
I tried the Duolingo app a few years ago but wonder with the advancement of technology whether textbooks might be redundant in this brave new world.
Many thanks :p

Rumour: Marko Malencia - a keeper
Crystal Palace are amongst the clubs interested in bringing Osijek FC goalkeeper Marko Malencia to the Premier League. 25 year old Croatian keeper valued at around a million - possible third keeper next year who could develop into a number one. Source the Daily Star. Spurs interested as well? Could be complete bollocks but sounds more of a Dougie deal and the young Brazilian does not seem to get a mention.

Had consigned this to the " bad stuff we did as an empire". But really researching different sources you realise how truly awful this was. If this was perpertated today by any country we would be outraged and yet this was the a massacre by the British only 100 years ago. only 1 year after WW1 where we commemorate people as having died fighting tyranny!

Rumour: Ezri Konsa £15million
Crystal Palace are lining up a move for Brentford centre-half Ezri Konsa in case he is put up for sale.
Eagles scout Dougie Freedman watched the star, 21, last week and is keen on a player who has been chased by Palace for some time.
Konsa was fancied by Arsenal in the last window but a drop in form gave them second thoughts.
But Palace are keeping an eye out as they want one extra defender, and could join in the bidding if the Bees are sensible.
Ex-Charlton defender Konsa is valued at about £15million. His club may sell one of their assets this summer and he is waiting to see if it is his turn.
And Bournemouth are nudging ahead of Palace in the chase for Stoke keeper Jack Butland, who will be a top Premier League target this summer.
Cherries scout Mark Burchill watched Butland, 26, last week and is also tracking Manchester Uniteds Dean Henderson, 22, and Burnleys Joe Hart, 31.
Palace are keen on Butland but need one of their keepers to leave.
Bournemouth are in the same position but may have the cash to risk bidding for him and then trading Asmir Begovic, 31, later.

Team For Cardiff
Hopefully Cardiff do the right thing on Tuesday, making their penultimate match against us one of vital importance. We need to go all out to win and I think this should be the team;
------------------Meyer (GK)------------------
Wickham----Zaha---------Ayew ---Townsend
Hennessey----------Perri---------------Gauita
----------Speroni----------Benteke------------
I'm so confident this team would get the right result, especially with a dynamic duo of Speroni and goal-machine Benteke up front, that we don't need more than ten men. Benteke on penalty duty.
Anyone with a better line up?

African Cup of Nations
African Cup of Nations draw is tonight at 7:00pm.
We could have a possible 6 current squad players involved , although this is very unlikely given contracts, form and loans.
Tournament takes place in Egypt from June 21st until July 19th so could be a late start for pre-season for Zaha ( Ivory Coast), Schlupp (Ghana) and Kouyate (Senegal).

Rumour: Che Adams £15million
Che Adams is at the centre of a three-club battle to take the striker to the Premier League next season.
Crystal Palace, Southampton and Burnley are interested in Birmingham Citys top scorer, who is expected to leave St Andrews in the summer.
Asked about Adams, Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl said: I dont want to discuss any personality. We were linked with him in the winter transfer period. We have eyes on a few young players who fit our shape and philosophy and we are mainly looking for younger players. First we have to be safe.
Adams has scored 22 goals in the Championship for Birmingham this season and is regarded as one of the hottest properties outside the top flight.
Palace want a new striker and cannot afford to make Michy Batshuayis loan deal from Chelsea permanent. The Eagles are unlikely to be able to afford the Belgians wage demands, so are already looking elsewhere.
Birmingham City's Che Adams celebrates scoring his side's first goal of the game during the Sky Bet Championship match at Carrow Road, Norwich
Adams fits into the Palace brief of trying to bring the average age and wage bill down, with the 22-year-old expected to cost around £15million.

There are also a few planned closures, further North of London on the Overground Line affecting Highbury & Islington and the District and Hammersmith and City Lines in and around Whitechapel. But, the Jubilee Line interchange with Canada Water will be unaffected.

Refusing to sign a new contract at Gladbach and will leave the club this summer
I was interested in him alot a few years back, few player of the year awards, looked promising. Wasnt sure if he kept it up but checking him out now this season has 9 goals and 9 assists over 27 apps, 14 goals in 37 apps in all competitions
26 years old, can play anywhere across the attacking midfield

Ward - think he will want first team football
Sakho - does he want to leave - latest injury may scupper this
AWB - I hope not
Meyer - doesn't seem happy to me
Zaha - If he is going to leave it has to be this summer
Benteke - We will try to sell
Just do not see how we can have a squad to compete unless we sell first and the only realistic big money sales will be AWB / Zaha - both of which would be huge losses .

Crystal Ball Last Five Matches Kiwicumulator
The Crystal Ball Team come in deep humility. As part of the Crystal Ball competition, we normally run a Kiwicumulator competition in which we predict the results of our last six matches. Someone very kindly pointed out today that we now only have five matches left. Hence, we cannot run such a competition this season.
Instead, after more consultation than Theresa May has done on Brexit, we have decided to run wait for it a five matches Kiwicumulator competition.
Our run-in from here comprises the following matches.
Man Citeh home.
Arsenal away.
Everton home.
Cardiff away.
AFC Bournemouth home.
We invite to make your predictions by 2.04 pm (BST) on the 14th of April for a chance to win:
0 correct - bonus point
3 correct - 1 point
4 correct - 3 points

The Club's Future Direction
We're coming up to a bit of a crossroads within our premier league journey. We've managed to stay up for a number of years within a league that very much seems to have a boom bust cycle for teams outside of the elite circle, which is a huge achievement when looked at in isolation.
There has been a rather heavy cost and price to pay in achieving this however. We've rarely had the same manager for longer than a 12 to 18 month period, whether due to managers under performing or walking away. This has the added cost of new signings not necessarily fitting within the new managers plans and then requiring further expensive signings to rectify problems within the squad from their perspective, so a few years on for the most part we have a squad that has been built from varying different visions and some would argue it has left the squad unbalanced or lacking sufficiently in quality.
In Roy, whether you like him or dislike him has managed to keep us up for two years running providing the longest period of stability that we've had in modern history, whilst having to deal with the loss of players such as Cabaye and RLC who from a creative standpoint were key to us finding form last season. Our ever increasing wage bill to turnover and transfer fees have left us in a situation where we have had to tighten our belt and try to be more innovative with our signings and more considerate of the fact we need value for money from most of our transfer dealings. I believe that the signings of Meyer and Guaita show this can be done and it is a positive start.
But where do we go from here? We have a squad that is aging, rather expensive to assemble, arguably unbalanced and in a situation where our only real assets financially would severely damage us on the pitch if we were to sell them right now given our reliance on individual brilliance from players such as Wilf.
Do we stick with Roy for the next year and keep treading water whilst cutting down on costs? Is this the right way to go about things? Or does short term survival potentially leave us in a difficult situation long term with some difficult questions to ask about the clubs direction?
My personal view is that the club has a very difficult question to try and answer this summer, because I feel the way things are currently is an unsustainable model for long term survival. Roy won't be here forever, what's the best way to handle his departure from the club whether this summer or next?
Do we just carry on with no real philosophy in playing style or identity and keep surviving or do we need to be brave and rip the plaster off and really try and develop a long term plan? Not an easy question either way you look at it. I'd be interested to get peoples thoughts.

This is a link to an interview with Ian Holloway. Go to 1 hour and 13 minutes in and he talks about his experience at palace and how he fell out with Parish. Also, how Pulis joined Palace. Watch it from that point to the end. Its completely changed my idea of what happened at Palace behind the scenes during the start of that season.
I'm not quite sure what to think having seen that bit.

Parish Needs to Take a Page Out of the Daniel Levy Playbook
dimanche 7 avril 2019
Whenever there is speculation surrounding a Tottenham player, the papers nearly always report Levy is asking for sky-high valuation. Here are a few examples:
I don't think any of that is by accident. Levy leaks to the newspapers his price-tags to send a message to anyone interested in a Spurs player they won't be going cheaply. SP did a good job of squeezing Everton for Bolasie but how he deals with the potential sales of Wilf and AWB this summer will be defining for him and the club for the next few years. He should do the same as Levy and leak to the press it will take bids of £80m+ to tempt Palace to sell either of AWB or Wilf. That sends a firm signal that either of them won't be leaving cheaply and undoes the damage that Roy said in his press conference that we would "listen to offers" which is almost suggests we want to sell and is bound to unsettle both players.

Mic'd up ref
Jarred Gillett is an Australian referee who next season will join the Championship, making him the first foreign referee in English football. He's joining the "select group 2" or some such, which apparently means he'll also likely referee Premier League matches as part of his development.
He was mic'd up for his last match in the A-League, which I thought some of you may find interesting:

Do you think Premier League referees should have mics?

Boat Race 2019
Races are on today, aired on BBC1. Amazing to see James Cracknell competing at age 46 years !!
Sam Woods
Assuming James Tomkins is out for the rest of the season (no idea if he is or not), then we could do worse than give Sam Woods a chance at CB.
This isn't about throwing in a young player for the sake of it, there are genuine reasons why it might be worth doing.
He has travelled with the squad for pretty much every game this season, and has been on the bench several times. Also he came on against Boro in the League Cup.
As much as Scott Dann has been incredible for us, he has lost any pace he had due to his injury, and so far doesn't look like a Premier League CB anymore unfortunately.
We are to all intents and purposes safe from relegation, so there is little to lose. People will argue that he is young and inexperienced and it's a big risk to play a youngster. But it's a big risk to play a 32-year-old who has spent six months out through injury as well, it's a risk to play Martin Kelly who has made many errors recently (I like Kelly btw). There is always risk in football.
The upsides are greater, as I said, it's not as though Woods has only been involved with the U23s. There were clubs interested in loaning him in January.
If he does well, then there is a good chance he would have a higher profile and therefore a better chance of a decent loan move next season. It's very unlikely he's going to get a chance in the first-team regardless. If he doesn't do well, then you see that he has more development needed and it gives you a better idea of where that development is required.
I fully appreciate that it is difficult to put him in against Manchester City and Arsenal, but City's attack is rapid, Dann is not. I probably would go for Dann-Kelly, but it's worth considering. After that though, I don't see why not.
Obviously this could be redundant if Tomkins is actually fine.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Man City (h)
532 will do.
Free role for Wilf.
City will destroy Dann if he plays, his legs have gone. Put Kouyate back there to help Woods.
Itll be the same team as normal, but were safe. Would be nice to try something that might actually benefit some of our players.
Guaita
AWB - Kelly - Kouyate - Woods - PVA
Luka
Meyer - Jimmy
Zaha
Batshuayi

18/19 Clean Sheets
samedi 6 avril 2019
1. Liverpool - 17
2. Manchester City - 16
3. Chelsea - 13
4. Crystal Palace - 11
5. Tottenham Hotspurs - 11
6. Everton - 10
So who's responsible? Roys Training? Introduction of Guaita? AWB last ditch tackles? Tomkins/Sakho partnership? a combination of them all, or maybe our Defensive Midfielder is more than a pen merchant?

Mrs. Minchella - The monkey nut lady
I know this lady has cropped up in other threads but a recent copy of the Croydon Advertiser had a whole page about her.
She was Mrs. Minchella and was known around Croydon as Lou-Lou or just Lou and probably Italian.
As well as attending Palace games wandering along the terraces selling monkey nuts from a wicker basket she was regularly seen in the streets of Croydon, Waddon and the Purley Way Lido selling sweets from a pram she pushed around. There is also a grainy picture of Lou-Lou that is exactly as I remember seeing her at SP.

Can We Still Have Our Best Premier League Finish?

Now that we are all but safe
Now that we are all but safe I hope that Roy will release the shackles and we can play a more attacking game. Especially against the big boys. We have Citeh and the Arse up next (chuckle) and we should give it a go.
We will be expected to lose so we have nothing to lose.

Palace Are Staying Up
Palace after winning against all odds at Newcastle have moved up to 12th place and are now safe from relegation and can look forward to a 7th successive season in the Premier League.
A great achievement
Well done to all at CPFC

We are currently where we should be in the league
Over the last few weeks i've seen a lot of critiques of Roy along the lines of 'we should be doing far better with the squad we have'.
I'm not sure this is actually true and i reckon we are pretty much exactly where we should be. Looking at the table we definitely have a better squad than all those below us (including newcastle), but looking above us i'd say the only squad we are more balanced and talented than is Bournemouth and at a push Watford (and those are both debatable).
Watford and Wolves are over performing and probably will regress to their actual ability next year. 11th-14th is probably about where are squad ability lies in the league. If anyone disagrees, which squad are we comfortably better than?
I agree that Roy's selection is frustrating and some tactics have been baffling BUT.... should we really be much higher than we are?
Even if another manager proppelled us to 5th/6th there is no guarentee that lasts for more than a year (Billic, Pardew, Dyche last year comes to mind). Something to take in mind when calling for Roy to be sacked.
