Crystal Palace are lining up a move for Brentford centre-half Ezri Konsa — in case he is put up for sale.
Eagles scout Dougie Freedman watched the star, 21, last week and is keen on a player who has been chased by Palace for some time.
Konsa was fancied by Arsenal in the last window but a drop in form gave them second thoughts.
But Palace are keeping an eye out as they want one extra defender, and could join in the bidding if the Bees are sensible.
Ex-Charlton defender Konsa is valued at about £15million. His club may sell one of their assets this summer and he is waiting to see if it is his turn.
And Bournemouth are nudging ahead of Palace in the chase for Stoke keeper Jack Butland, who will be a top Premier League target this summer.
Cherries scout Mark Burchill watched Butland, 26, last week and is also tracking Manchester United’s Dean Henderson, 22, and Burnley’s Joe Hart, 31.
Palace are keen on Butland but need one of their keepers to leave.
Bournemouth are in the same position but may have the cash to risk bidding for him and then trading Asmir Begovic, 31, later.
