Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

Player Ratings And Reviews: Middlesborough (a)

Managed to watch the game on a stream. We were f*cking terrible.

Can't even bring myself to do individual marks as we were so poor, but if I have to watch Jordan Ayew again any time soon I think I'll put my head through something.

Not sure if Roy's ever seen a Pulis side, but aimlessly crossing balls onto the heads of their 6'7 centre-backs isn't how you create chances. I think we had about seven corners in the game and took one short. We didn't win any of the others in the air. So moronic.

To top it off they've got Burton at home in the quarter finals. A massive opportunity shat right down the toilet after all the positives at Swansea and WBA :veryangry

Well done to all who travelled. You deserve a seat in Block E for sitting through that.

Suggestion: Joelinton

Everyone loves a cheeky Brazilian upfront, how about Joelinton? After a couple of years on loan to Rapid, scoring against Conte's Chelsea in Europe along the way, he's gone back to Hoffenheim and is putting in some very good performances.

As a CF, AMF or RW, he's strong, mobile & intelligent, scores with both feet and his head, makes assists, tracks back and has skills to boot, and would be a perfect compliment to Wilf and Andros. It's only a matter of time before he follows in Firmino's path from Hoffenheim to the Prem, so we SHOULD be looking at him as an option in the next Transfer Window.

He's only going to get better and more valuable.

CPFC2010 Years: The Book

Hello all,

I am currently in the process of writing a book that will cover the last decade at Crystal Palace Football Club.

Starting from when the CPFC2010 board took over the club, up until the end of next season (a nice Champions League victory will give my book the perfect ending), I will be scrutinising every moment throughout the last 10 years; the good, the bad, and the Mark Clattenburg.

I will also be interviewing members of staff/players from each respective season, giving their personal tales of the ins and outs of that specific campaign.

I have already spoken with Danny Butterfield about the 2009/10 season which he has spoken about in great depth and has revealed one or two very honest opinions!

Next, I shall be speaking with Neil Danns about the 2010/11 season, the first year after avoiding our extinction.

I naturally have a host of questions to put to Neil but would love to hear from you if you have any questions specific to that season that you would like me to put to Neil.

I shall be updating this forum as I progress with the book and would love your input.

Many thanks,

Will

what on earth is this strip Manchester City are wearing? There is no real clash of colours between Spurs and City so no need to change.

Am I alone in thinking there should be some consistency in change strip from one season to the next or preferably a link to the first team colours?

professional foul aka taking one for the team

Just hearing Gary Neville. Normally I think hes quite good but tonight his support and praise for the professional foul is making me spit. It has become a scourge on the professional game aided and abetted by referees who wont take action till several players have racked up 2 or 3 of these. The refs of course have been softened up by these pundits who of course are almost all ex players of recent vintage. It is a major reason Wilf is clobbered so much as he is so often involvd when we get on the break. Team planning is such that it itseems iIs a different man each time. I write in the full knowledge that we are not whiter than white. Naivety has become the abiding sin but I think the balance needs redressing and the next mos irritating thing after diving

I would like refs to be told by the 4th official if the number of such files appears to be a team tacic and for the ref crack down on the next one accordingly. Tough titties if its a certain players first

Palace Supporters' Heatmap

I while back I asked the To view the link you have to Register or Login. This was/is part of a much wider piece I'm writing on Palace progress and support. Unfortunately, that piece is now so big that I reckon it will take a while to see the light of day and find the right place for it.

Anyway, thought I might share the results of the Palace supporters' heatmap. This combines the BBS survey with club data to give a sense of where our key support base is. Many apologies to the ~46% of you who live outside of these areas. I know Palace have fans all over the place so the point of this is really to see where the highest density is. A heatmap of the world might not be great for analysis.

The blue area refers to "inner selhurst" with the highest density of Palace fans but the red area stretches across the "outer selhurst" catchment (I've included the total population in these areas for information). I hope it's of some interest:

Poll for Lower Holmesdale Re-Set

I have not got a clue how to do it but think it would make interesting reading. I have been keeping an eye on things being a season ticket holder in the Lower Holmesdale Block D. I don’t think that anyone could seriously argue that the match-day experience with regards to atmosphere has suffered since the HF disbanded. In my humble opinion the current proposal to turf out 400 or so residents currently in Block E is the answer. In fact I think it will cause more problems as many have suggested. However I do think that it would be a good idea to do a full phased re-set of the Lower Holmesdale. In fact very similar to that as originally proposed to the club by the HF. The club could still allocate the 400 Block E seats to the HF with the 400 being displaced given priority of new seats. Then phased out to the rest of us. The Club has plenty of time to plan and programme a full phased re-set. Sure you will never please everyone but a poll may through up a large majority vote that could then be presented to the Club requesting that the Poll result be implemented. If the Club wanted a full Poll / Vote result from the current lower Holmesdal Supporters not just the BBS then they could soon put something on the official Web Site so that we could all vote. My poll voting options would be –
1. Do nothing and request season ticket renewal in the normal way.
2. Implement the current proposal in displacing 400 supporters and re-allocating seats around the Stadium.
3. Implement the availability of 400 seats in Block E for the HF and also a full Lower Holmesdale seating re-set on a Phased basis with those being displaced initial Priority.
Just a thought and will be interested in views of all our supporters not just Lower Holmesdale.

Fan collapsed on LH concourse after the game

Coming out of the LH at the end of the game there was a few stewards holding sheets to block off people seeing a fan that was laying on the floor of the concourse in the corner to the entrance of block J. Anyone know what happened? Hope he or she is ok

Fair play to Granit Xhaka

Apologies if this has already been posted elsewhere, but I thought it was very refreshing to hear Granit Xhaka’s interview after the game yesterday.

He had no complaints about the Wilf penalty and admitted he fouled him.

Fair play to him.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Boro (away)

dimanche 28 octobre 2018

Think we should go for a strong team in this one:

——————————Guaita——————————
AWB————Dann—————Kelly————-Schlupp
Punch———-Meyer————Riedewald——-Ayew
——————-Sorloth————Wickham——————

Subs:

Speroni
PVA
Sakho
Kouyate
McArthur
Andros
Zaha

I’d name a very strong bench. It’s Pulis’ team and we have a great chance of a cup run.

Chelsea match in Kracow

I'm in Kracow for the Chelsea game, can anyone recommend a decent bar to watch the game in? Cheers

Overplaying at the back

The first goal came from Overplaying at the back and giving luka a dangerous pass on the edge of our own penalty area. We seem to have a culture now of trying clever tricks or passes to get us out of trouble at the back.
I should think it has started with sakho and pva joins in

What I like about Tomkins is that he puts it in the crowd if under pressure.
I know to progress we have to keep possession more but I still don't think we have the personnel to take risks like that. I can't imagine Roy or Ray would encourage it so it must be player led.

Chris Sutton the biggest cock in the media

Seriously is there a bigger cock in the media than Chris Sutton. His opening words on 606 about Wilf are ridiculous stating it’s a ridiculous penalty and Zaha has to be bright to book etc

Last week he criticised a Wilf got falling over despite it being a clear pen.

He clearly hates Wilf but why?

Dru Yearwood. Apparently we are interested ( The Sun )

Something I think should happen today.

With the sad footballing news in the last 24 hours it is a coincidence that Glenn Hoddle and Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha are both 61 years old. Therefore I think it would be good for the club to do something in the 61st minute maybe a minutes applause although that’s hard in the sad situation.

You'd really think the main site could get it right:-

The game, which kicks off at 13.30 BST on Sunday 28th, will feature as the Sky Sports Main Event with coverage starting at 12.30 BST. It is also available on NOW TV to stream.

At least everyone will get there early.

Rail Disruption For The Arsenal Game.

There is only a very limited rail service on the line serving Selhurst and Thornton Heath stations for the Palace v Arsenal match on Sunday which means that everyone will be using Norwood Junction after the game.

Wonderful planning Engineering works when so many people will be inconvenienced with Palace having a home game.

To make matters worse a Sunday service is operating out of Norwood Junction.

Worst transfer moves of all time

Murray just scored his sixth of the season ( one more than CPFC all season)
And now has scored 100 for the tarts aka BHA and now their second highest scorer of all time.

Just what an absolute useless clueless cock Pardew has turned out to be.

In my 50+ years this has to be the biggest transfer mistake ever, and what. Makes it worse was we could have all told the absolute wank stain he was making a big mistake.. I can only assume he was shagging Muzzas Mrs!!

Can somebody tell me anything worse?:wallbash::wallbash:

In Bruges....

In Bruges for the weekend so missing the Arsenal game.

Can anyone recommend the best pub to view this game if I can escape the ball n chain....??

Glenn Hoddle taken ill

Wish him the best.

Watching the Arsenal game in Bologna..

As always seems to be the case, I’m missing the Arsenal game. I’m in Bologna. Does anyone know of a bar that might be showing the game instead of Italian football. Long shot, I know...

Match Updates: Oct 27th - Nov 1st

Boro just equalised against Derby. Was hoping Lampard would win that as being schooled by a novice at home would’ve grated with Pulis

Directors Box - what’s it like?

Though Parish might wanna chip in to these threads. With his shit 50% off for one year offer.

Main Stand - What’s it like?

I’m hoping we can get seats in the LH. If not maybe go to the UH as the AW reports don’t sound good for leg room and accessibility.

But might as well ask what’s the main stand like?

Any tilers out there?

Hi all,

A bit of a random one - are there any tilers within the BBS community that would be interested in a small job in South Croydon (possibly a day’s work)? It involves laying a new floor in a small bathroom. Or if you’re able to recommend anyone, please do forward on their details.

Cheers

Wouldn't have expected it tbh. I thought she was in the music arm of the IRA. :D

Quote:

Formation all wrong

Tactics and formation all wrong in last two games. To go 442 with the playing personel available vs Wolves was naïve and to play 4411 against Everton was paramount to giving the three points away.
I understand that playing McArthur and Schlupp wide in a 4 was to nullify the wide threat that Everton posed but the problem was that all 4 of our midfield players are not confident in possession and as a consequence every time we managed to win the ball back from Everton we had not one player in the midfield areas that could then either hold up the play allowing the full backs to give options. or pass the ball through with accuracy to either Zaha or Townsend or for that matter run with the ball therefore committing Everton defenders which then created space in for our players in forward areas......the plan was nonsensical
Additionally both Zaha and Townsend were isolated when they get did possession as the normal runs of McArthur and to a lesser degree Kouyate were non existent due to the areas that they were asked to provide defensive cover.
Against Arsenal we will face a team with movement at pace in all areas so we need to impress our strengths on them as sitting back will result in a potential drubbing
Play a back 4 trust our full backs against Arsenals wide players, play two shielding players, allow Zaha freedom of movement, play a central striker and most importantly allow Meyer the freedom of the midfield areas to provide the pivotal link between our possession and the threat we can then pose.

Arthur Wait Stand - What's it like?

I started a thread a few weeks back on the Holmesdale upper - Now its the AW turn.

I have sat in there a few times over the years and had a season ticket from 90-95- But I am wondering whats it like for a premier league game these days? Are there loads of tourists? Whats the view like? Do the away fans annoy you? Is it cramped? Can you get in/out quickly?

Anything will be useful.

Thanks!!

Help With Asthma

Hi all,

I'm writing because I'm hoping someone out there might have some advice for me about a form of Asthma I have, unfortunately because they suffer from it themselves.

I got Asthma as a young man, which reduced to an irrelevancy soon after I moved to London after Uni. I'd get the odd attack, hit the inhaler and be better within 30 mins. After awhile, I stopped carrying the inhaler.

But after over twenty years, the Asthma seems to be back with a vengeance. It started in December last year but with far worse symptoms; the attacks last all day or even for two days straight sometimes. None of the inhalers prescribed to me did anything. Then I got various oral steroids, which did nothing, followed by Montelukast, which might help a little but not enough to make life livable. I am constantly a little out of breath, at best, with talking in complete sentences difficult. At worse, I feel like I'm trying to get air through a straw and can only get by heaving in air and sitting up with my chin tilted back to straighten my airway. Sleeping horizontally is hard because it restricts the movement of my lungs. I can't say how many times I've considered going to A&E or made my peace with God at four in the morning. The attacks are far worse at night due to hormone level changes that happen to us when we are winding down to sleep, apparently.

I'm giving all this detail because I wonder if anyone else out there has gone through a similar ordeal and found a solution? Or is there a BBS doctor out there who can advise?

I should point out that the one bit of info I have received from doctors after having all sorts of tests is that I have high levels of Eosinophils in my blood, a particular white blood cell that causes inflammation of the breathing passages and sinus through overreaction to allergens.

After doing my own research, I found out I likely have Eosinophillic Asthma, a subset of the disease that has different triggers and, surprise surprise, does not react to traditional therapies. It is fairly rare, tends to hit asthma sufferers between 35-50 years old ( I'm late forties ) and is often not diagnosed as a distinct variation of Asthma, requiring other therapies, due to ignorance on the part of doctors.

Apparently, there are drugs for this variant of the disease that lower blood-based eosinophils and can represent a complete cure ( Benralizumab / Mepolizumab / Omalizumab / Dupilumab ) but some seem not to be passed in the UK yet or very expensive. I'm planning to visit my GP to ask for one of these drugs and I want to be as well-armed as possible when I do.

So I was wondering if any BBSer here has been diagnosed with Eosinophillic Asthma and whether they either got any of the drugs above or any other therapy that worked for them? I'll try anything right now as I can't imagine going through life like this. Any advice would be appreciated.

( BTW, I've brought special mattress and pillow covers to cut down on dust mites, hoover religiously, take antihistamines and drink wheatgrass, based on a friend's recommendation. I've also ordered a humidifier. )

Basically, if anyone could offer me any advice, especially someone who beat this condition, I'd be forever grateful. For various reasons, I'm having a very hard year financially over the last twelve months and I need this like a hole in the head. Sorry for the long mail but felt I should get all the info out there for anyone who might be qualified, either medically or through experience, to help.

( Please help. So scared I will die before seeing Palace score a home goal. Yep, still able to make jokes at least. )

Top 5 TV

I turn again to the collective and individual intelligence of the BBS, a close friend of mine moved to the US five years ago. (Thereby increasing the average IQ of both countries)

On a recent trip together he quizzed me about great British made TV he had missed and could catch up upon. It took me a while to answer and my answers were highly biases to recent shows.

So, I was wondering if people could help by listing their favourite 5 comedy shows and dramas or documentaries of the last 5 years.

Alcohol laws at football - Time for change ?

So the law regarding drinking at football matches ( inside the stadium -within site of the pitch - sitting /standing in your seat ) has been around since 1985 and was probably needed when it was introduced but is it no
w time for change ?
I've been to games in the states where you get served beer whilst sitting in your seat ( more than 25 year's ago )
Rugby fans can enjoy a beer whilst watching the game and many other sporting events allow you to have a couple of beers whilst watching live ,
I see a group of lower league clubs are saying this law is now outdated and needs looking at
Yes there will be the 5% of fans that go over the top with alcohol but should that stop the law abiding 95% ?
It's time this matter was at the very least debated at a higher level .

Centre Forward

We have clearly needed a centre forward for some time now.

Who would you suggest we try and sign in January. Must be affordable and realistic that he'd want to join.

Palace The 10th Best Run Club

mercredi 24 octobre 2018

Palace are currently the 10th best run club but are expected to soon be breaking into the top 6.

Credit for this is down to Steve Parish, CPFC 2010 and our American owners not just splashing the cash but living within Palace's means.

Palace v Arsenal in Gloucestershire (Tetbury)

I'm going to find myself in Tetbury, Gloucestershire on Sunday.

Any locals to those parts on recommend a good pub to catch the match at either in Tetbury or other local towns (Malmesbury, Stroud, Cirencester)?

Ta :p

Inside Number 9.

Fantastically consistent series that starts up again on sunday with a live Halloween episode.

Shearsmith and Pemberton really can do no wrong in my opinion.

Any one have any details about the car? What was the infrastructure that made this the choice as land is very very expensive here. Please no Brexit no Corbyn no you said two years ago no yah boo sucks.

Meyer must start in central midfield vs Arsenal

mardi 23 octobre 2018

Yes he was ill last week. But after playing against Bournemouth and then Dulwich he must be fit enough to start surely? It'll be almost 4 weeks since he last started a competitive EPL game on Sunday. He should be fresh! Please recover from illness. There's a real problem in centre mid. There's no creativity. We have Luka trying his best but he's a defensive mid. And we have Cheikou 65% Kouyate who can't pass to save his life. If we can't keep hold of the ball on the odd occasion that we get it Arsenal will take us to the cleaners.

Roy, I don't care what else you do, but please start Max Meyer in central midfield. Please.

Suggestion: Victor Moses

Reading the BBC gossip page and one of the snippets was Moses saying he is ready to leave Chelsea. He had a real role as a RWB under Conte, but Sarri's 433 has seen him drop out of the first team picture completely.

I know some will say obsession with ex players, but this one feels different. Moses would not only add some real technical ability and flair to our team, he would also provide competition and depth in attacking areas.

I have no idea if he'd be available on loan, although I do imagine we are keeping close tabs on RLC, but one could argue that signing Moses would present a smaller risk than a player from a foreign league.

*Edit. Sorry, forgot to search. Feel free to merge with existing summer thread.

Anyone else want to play Mutch puns? :D

BBS Rules ...

Where are they? I just had a thread removed, presumably for breaking rules.

To be clear, I'm not objecting to that but would like to know where I can check to ensure I don't break any in future.

Mutch was not good enough

Yeah right total ****witts !

Times states the obvious RE Wilf Ignores lack of other fit strikers........

To view the link you have to Register or Login

This both a good article and a shit one at the same time. It's stating the bleeding obvious then ignoring the fact that out of the four other forwards that complement Wilf all three are injured or haven't played in TWO years.

Going 433 with Wilf on the right Ayew and the middle and Andros out on the right might be an option. But we know Roy will always start a match 442.

Initiative Q

This is a new currency and payment network built by ex-PayPal guys, called Initiative Q. The Q currency is currently being allocated for free if you are invited by an existing member. To me its a risk-free possibility of some cash for those who get in quick.

The idea is that if millions of people join, Q could become a leading payment network, and, according to well-known economic models, that means the value of the reward would be around $130,000.

The amount you reserve decreases every day, and each member has a limited number of invites. You can use my invite link here:

Dyson to build a new electric car....in Singapore.

True to form.

I understand that he has appointed Clive Sinclair as a design consultant and is going to call it the C6.

It is going to be made in purple and pink plastic, with a digital motor, and wheeless axles. It is going to be priced at bit more above its competitor's prices at around £36000 for the smaller version and £56000 for the larger version. I mean all that design and development don't come cheap. Dyson added that he has abandoned plans for the extended reel in/reel out corded option in view of the advanced cordless Gtech "Brummy" car, that is about to hit the market.

Roy - Back or sack? (Poll)

lundi 22 octobre 2018

Come on then, let’s do this seeing as we now have a “sack RH” thread at 1000 posts and “next manager” thread.

Let’s assume we’ll lose the next four games (‘boro aside) as most are probably expecting.

That will then be:

Played - 13
Won - 2
Drawn - 1
Lost - 10

If you were SP, would you pull the trigger or back Roy. If so, until when?

Personally I think Roy deserves at least until January although I’ve started to doubt him in the last couple of games. I certainly don’t think he’s “lost the dressing room”

Next Palace Manager

Looking around there is not many out of work, experienced British manager's left apart from Curbishley, Hoddle or Moyes and we've gone down the foreign route to no success so who do we want to replace Roy when he gets sacked?

I would love Benitez, think he would be perfect for us but not sure he would come as his family are settled in the north. I also like Chris Wilder who has worked wonders everywhere he has been and was actually recommended by Allardyce as a good replacement or do we go all out for one of the following big names?

Antonio Conte
Laurent Blanc

Thoughts?

Eleven Sports must be the most pointless thing ever

dimanche 21 octobre 2018

I know 'the future is streaming', but people can watch all the La Liga and Serie A (along with German and French) games on Betfair Video (or any major bookie website) by just keeping a few pounds on their account without ever needing to place a bet!

I just don't see how the business model is sustainable without having a TV platform. La Liga will be back on Sky in a year IMO.

Our support

Well basically it was embarrassing today, 400 maybe 500, what a joke. A London premier team & that all we can take away.
Too many people going on about where they sit in black E. Well why not try and support the club fully, instead of moaning about moving. Not picking out block E, but the whole of our so called loyal supporters, that moan about anything, but won’t travel outside se25.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Arsenal (home)

----------------------Hennessey--------------------------
AWB-------Tomkins-------------Sakho----------PVA
Andros-----Meyer-------------Milivojevic-------JM/JS
--------------Zaha-------------Wickham--------------

1) This is a completely different test to Everton. This will be tiki-taka and they will be less physical so Kouyate benched
2) Meyer has to come in - we need his technical passing ability. He needs to show us that he can put his foot in too though
3) Wickham has to start. We are at home. If he comes off after 45 mins at least we've started his journey back into the XI.
4) Kouyate will be good sub to come on if we are defending a lead.

Jeff Schlupp - What's the point?

Usually I hate these kind of threads but seriously what does he bring to the team? Defensively he is awkward at best, he doesn't even track back or track his man half the time.

And going forward he offers little threat taking on players or putting in crosses, not to mention for someone who was supposedly a striker he literally cannot shoot.

Sorry Jeff but you're not for me I'm afraid.

Out-tacticted

Hodgson has now been outsmarted by Silva, Nunes, Howe, Benitez, And Hughes.

Rep colour question

I see most users have a green bar, all except Maz, who has a single black one.

What does a single black bar signify?

Is that like a black belt in rep?

Oh dear what can the matter be......

....palace are shite, and we won on Saturday

(and Zaha forgot to fall over 🤪 this week 😂👍)

Club is regressing back to where it used to be

No passion or identity on the pitch

No passion or identity off the pitch

Reminds me of the Palace from over 10 years ago, when I admittedly lost interest. The following 10 years were magic. Palace became exciting and progressive. We've been exciting underdogs in the Premier League for sometime.

It's been so flat this season. No bite. No atmosphere at home.

Still without a striker who is up to playing at this level.

Really gotta try to pull together now and unite to dig ourselves out of this. The problem is, I really think there is apathy about this season. With no home atmosphere, I feel were are just gonna slide away, without a fight. There seems to be no spark available to us to get our old spirit back. Hard to turn this kind of thing around, it's a huge cumulative effect that gives a club a feeling, and our club is currently feeling totally rotten.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Everton (away)

Poll to follow.

The merits of substitutions

Discuss.

Roy

Make some f**king subs before the 88th minute for once.

Jesus [emoji22]

which will happen first ?

The team will win WITHOUT Zaha
( Last happened September 2016 )

Or

Benteke will score a premier league goal with his feet from open play
( Last happened about a year and a half ago )

Both stats are pretty shocking , personally think option A will happen first and as for Benteke I think the new stand will probably be built before he scores for us again .

Anyone been on a songwriting course?

There seem to be quite a lot of these around. I've seen a few short courses for around £300 which seem decent value especially if you get a good group who can inspire each other and an experienced teacher. But would be interesting to get feedback from someone who's been on one.

Akinfenwa

Seems to be playing regularly and playing well at 36 so fair play to him. I'm just wondering how this has happened because when he was at Wimbledon I thought that was the end of his career as he wasn't playing so how has he done it?

HELP!! Guardianship dispute

In desperation it has to be said, I am turning to the BBS to see if anyone on here is a specialist in matters relating to Guardianship.

After months of a legal battle with my ex wife over guardianship of my adult son, we finally have a proof hearing date of November 30th (pre proof hearing on Nov 2nd). This is under Scottish law.

I am looking for expert legal opinion only along with sensible advice on how to represent myself, how much my doing so will prejudice the case, tips on how to cross examine witnesses and generally conducting myself in a way that does not piss off the Sheriff (The judge).

I am expecting this to be a very short thread!!

Songs that make you think of Palace

There’s the obvious ‘Glad all over’, ‘Town called Malice’, ‘The long good Friday’...but I find there are certain random songs that due to personal circumstance, have me wistfully thinking of our beloved Eagles.

Yazz - The only way is up.
Promotion in 89. Released at the start of that season and the chorus obviously chimed with the hope that season. Believe it or not, ended up on a dance floor at Crystals the night we went up, dancing to it alongside the likes of Pemberton, Salako, Thomas and Barber.

Wet Wet Wet - Angel Eyes.
Man City away 3-1 win in ‘87. Driving up to Euston train station early doors for the special up to Piccadilly Manchester, and this song played on the radio. Always reminds me of one of my favourite Palace away days.

Lindisfarne - Run for home and Snowy White - Bird of paradise
There was a couple of special reports on Football Focus and Thames Sport I think, on Vince Hilaire in the early 80’s. They played a montage of him backed by these songs. This was back in the day when the only mention on TV we got most weekends was when our result was read out at 5pm.

Depeche Mode - Enjoy the silence
One song I had on my tape on headphones when walking up to Selhurst at the crack of dawn to join a queue to buy one of just 2,000 tickets available for the 1990 FA Cup quarter final at Cambridge. Always takes me back to that Cup run.

Russ Abbot - Atmosphere.
Takes me back to Coppell’s early days as this song was played a lot at the end of games for some reason. Always found it amusing, ‘Oh what an atmosphere’, in days when we were averaging 6k crowds.

Florence and the Machine - Spectrum
Played this song as the lads lifted the cup at Wembley after beating Watford in the Play Off final. Or at least I think it was this song?

Anyone else with random songs connected to memories of Palace?

Danny Foley

Just thought I would pass on to all those that used to drink in the White Horse, Selhurst Arms or Alma (or any others for the matter) when Danny was there

he has now secured a Pub in Penge - The Pawleyne Arms, 184 High Street, Penge. He will have the Palace match on telly on Sunday afternoon if you want a great atmosphere to watch the game and can make it.

More importantly he plans to introduce the coaches to and from Selhurst Park (like he did at the Alma) for home matches starting from the Burnley home match.

Investigations are under way to identify the origin of the disease - the first in Scotland in 10 years - which was found after an animal died.

I ask because I'm getting very confused. I see school kids everywhere from anywhere after 12... Used to get peace and quiet guarenteed until 3 but they seem to get out whenever the schools can't be bothered to keep them which is earlier and earlier.

U23's v Bristol City. Today OCT 15th

After much 'phoning around despite the mention in the Wolves Home Prog the above game is being played at Bristol City's ground ASHTON GATE TONIGHT.

I have posted this because I know there was interest of our Fans of a trip to Bath City.

Bristol City have a mention of this on their website.:hmph:

Is this a re-run of the 1930s? But with global warming.

I honestly think the world is a scary place right now.

The far right and nationalism are gaining ground everywhere. Brazil is very likely to elect a fascist in the upcoming presidential elections. The far right are in power in Poland, Hungary the Philippines, the US, Israel, India and many other countries and rising in power almost everywhere. They provide no answers to the growing crisis in capitalism and only provide hatred and division.

On top of that global warming seems to be accelerating at a rate where it won't be able to be stopped leading to horrific circumstances.

Social democracy meanwhile is limping along unable to provide any real answers.

There are some signs of hope, with the left gaining in some countries, but nothing like the rate the far right are.

The I Spy book of The dreaded Next 5

The fun that is the Premier League throws up a one and a half month period where even the most rose tinted glasses of us can't look forward to :(

Everton(a), Arse (h), Chel(a), Spuds(h), Man U (a).

I suppose a good thing about the Premier League is how total predictable these things are so I'm going for;

Everton - they get all their players back, we get thumped, Sorloth first League but we don't really notice.

Arse - we had our moment a couple of seasons ago. Very painful day at Selhurst with 20% of possession. Lacazette show and even Iwobi and some non descript centre back with the goals

Chelsea - Hazard show. Media love fest in which Palace aren't even mentioned apart from the predictable 'relegation fight', ' worst position than last season Jeff'

Spurs - decent performance given the circumstances but at least 1 worldy from Spurs.

Man Ure - Palace take the lead but resurgent Man U easily win with Pogba and Jose reunited at a bouncing happy old Trafford

:(:(

Positives - none

R.I.P Peter Brackley

dimanche 14 octobre 2018

For me THE voice of Italian Football, always remember his dulcet tones on a Sunday afternoon on Channel 4. Also of course commentators on the Pro Evolution Soccer series and Champions League games down the years. 67 years old I have to admit I thought he was younger than that.

Sad day, Requiescat in pace Peter!

Era Defining Songs.

Or songs/records that changed everything really.

For people 30 odd years older than me then it'd be the likes of a Buddy Holly/Presley song.
My era though had this.

I remember where I was when I first heard this and it shook me to the core.
And popular music for my era changed for ever.

Your examples...

The Banksy auction stunt

I presume everyone has followed the story to some degree, but I can't help feeling that Banksy didn't pull off what he hoped to.

I may be wrong, but I reckon he was after a 'full shred' so the picture fell, confetti-like to the floor. The buyer would have the choice of either pulling out of the sale, sticking the shreds back onto a backing or putting the shreds into a jar and labelling it 'Going, going, gone' (my preferred option). However the 'half-way house' shred that happened of half a picture, half-shredded, half out of the frame has give rise to a rather iconic image/art-piece. I'm sure the intention was to cock a snoop at the monied artworld and diminish the picture's value but, conversely, he has more than likely increased its value immensely.

Interesting stunt though.

Suggestion: Ivan Sunjic

We as a club are too slow on the uptake bit this guy is being branded as the new Luka Modric and exactly the sort of young player we should be looking at. 22 years old, already played for the Croatia National Team, plays for Dynamo Zagreb but on loan at the moment, probably wouldn't cost an arm and a leg.

Drinking in under 25’s Dropping

Keep reading stories about how more and more under 25’s are no longer drinking alcohol or have switched to the many low alcohol 0.5 and below beers. Now this is something I commend them for if it’s a lifestyle choice or they fear the dangers of alcohol etc.

But one question that never seems to get asked of this group of people is are they replacing alcohol with an alternative recreational drug of choice i.e smoke some weed or using cocaine etc as their preferred party packet so to speak.

That makes me wonder if it is a switch to an alternative drug are they causing the economy a bigger issue in the long term by replacing s taxable drug (alcohol) with a non taxable drug, I will add I’m an advocate for making drugs legal and taxing them.

So any under 25’s on here who don’t drink care to shed some light on this matter or what are other people thoughts on the reduction of younger drinkers as stated above I commend their decision so it’s not a rant so to speak demanding young people drink

Videos that scarred you for life

vendredi 12 octobre 2018

Reading about Faces of Death recently got me making a mental list of all the videos and films seen as a kid that have stayed with me or really headfxkd me at the time.

Here’s my list. What’s yours?

Faces of Death - stumbled out of the house after seeing this and just felt numb. Could not look at a hamburger and it really hit home about the fragility of life. Yes a lot were faked but those diners smashing the live monkey and eating it’s brains. I mean wtf..

Creepshow - for an 11yo kid all the stories scared the fck out of me and the surreal comic book quality added to its strangeness.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre - even now this is just a different level of horror for me, as a kid watching it leatherface was a nightmare. I recall the big playground debate on whether it was a he or a she.

Swedish Erotica - it took many more years before I realized that not everyone had a dick the size of John Holmes :D

German football thread

I know we have a Bundesliga thread lurking around somewhere on here but it often gets lost and I think the fact it is titled as such puts people off a bit from discussing teams from lower divisions, so anything German related please come, come.

Nice to see Bayern struggling early doors, in fact Gladbach took them apart last weekend. Looking through the divisions these days there are a lot of teams I hadn't heard of 5-10 years ago. Kaiserslautern are really struggling in the Third Division and Braunschweig are routed to the bottom of the Division. Been keeping a little eye on KFC Uerdingen now back in the professional ranks seeing as one time they were Bayer Leverkusen's sister club, and they play in red and blue stripes.

Neil razor ruddock

jeudi 11 octobre 2018

Feel like we need someone to complement Roy’s style and razor fits the bill. Granted his short playing time with us was a bit messy but he is exactly the sort of character we need to lift the place. People forget this is a guy with an England career and played at top level. Could have a lot to offer as a coach and maybe even Roy could train him up to be long term successor . Seems a waste him being out the game .

We need a bit of personality amongst the ranks . Cometh the hour cometh the razor!!!!

Old Chants you would like to hear again.

Ill leave the HF chants to the HF if they ever comeback, although I think ‘We Follow’ will stay regardless.

However what were some of the old chants that some of us who are not HF could getting going? One’s we miss from the past.

Racking my brain I can only remember:

• Walking down the Holmesdale Road to see the Palace Aces
• You are My Palace
• Glad all over
• Eagles (repeat)
• Ron Noades mother etc
• Oh South London is wonderful
• ‘Managers’ Red and Blue Army
• We are the Leftside / Holmesdale / Arthur
• Come on Palace.

There must be more? I think Noades and South London is wonderful are abit outdated.

Dont get me wrong, I love the HF chants but I think they should be started by them, and then there could be an identity for those who are general Palace supporters for this season as they wont be back it seems this year.

Draft Statement from the Club

“Following our recent statement about the seating I’m Block E, we have been in close discussion with the Holmesdale Fanatics. Both the Club and the HF are deeply concerned about the divisions this proposal has caused in our loyal fan base. This was never our intention.

As a result, the Holmesdale Fanatics have decided to withdraw their request for a singing section in Block E and will be moving back to Blocks A and B for the immediate future, from where they will help to generate the best atmosphere in the Premier League.

We will revisit this proposal when the new stand is progressing and intend then to offer favourable terms to existing season ticket holders in Block E so that we can make Selhurst Park an even better stadium with the best, most committed and united fan base.”

STD riddled ladybirds invade Moan Utd wan*ers homes

STD riddled ladybirds invade Northern Ireland player Jonny Evans' home (and current wan*ker Phil Jones)

Swarms of the Harlequin ladybirds are flying across from Asia and North America and seeking hibernation in people's homes.

Two Premier League footballers have called in pest control to exterminate a swarm of STD-riddled ladybirds invading their homes.

Northern Ireland international Jonny Evans and Manchester United defender Phil Jones have both encountered the bugs, which are known as Harlequin ladybirds.

They have spread rapidly up to the north of England after flying across from Asia and North America to find cosy hibernation in people's homes.

Experts say the foreign invaders actually pose a threat to the domestic species because they carry a sexually-transmitted disease called Laboulbeniales fungal disease.

Residents have reported large clusters of the bugs in their living rooms, kitchens and bedrooms this week.

And the wives of both players have been forced to call in help to rid the bugs.

Jonny Evans' wife Helen first tweeted to her followers: "Anyone else got ladybirds all over their house?"

It prompted a response from Phil Jones' wife Kaya, who replied: "Omg had pest control here this afternoon. Will whatsapp you! Also had a fly invasion!"

The creepy-crawlies have been seen clustering around boilers, window frames and smoke detectors as they bed down for witner.

Scientists say a fungus the creatures carry, which is passed on through mating, will infect our native species which are already under threat from habitat loss.

Apologies for not posting in Moan Utd thread but I liked the headline

open letter to the HF

Open Letter to the HF
I applaud your efforts over the last 10 years. The displays were awesome and made me proud. Indeed I, and other fans, contributed financially to these displays, but the time and effort must have been immense.
Your collaboration with CPFC has also reaped rewards for your displays and singing section in Block B.
Likewise, this has been appreciated by CPFC with use of your images on publicity brochures, and preferential treatment for Wembley tickets (play-off and FA cup)
It now seems to me, and other fans, you are seeking to exploit this relationship to your own benefit, and to the detriment of other fans, with your demand for Block E.
My own experience of the HF (from a distance) has been very favourable. I applaud your displays.
My face-to-face experiences have been very unpleasant. These include (but not restricted to):
• My 45 year old wife being shouted at, with others, to “Sing you ****s”
• Fireworks being detonated behind out ST seats in LH when I told members of the HF to vacate our seats
• Attempting to force me out of my allocated seat at away games. And I know your members have forced elderly and women from their seats. I’ve seen it.

The HF need to put their house in order.

I was at Selhurst in the 1980’s, when it was terracing.
I have put my own time and money giving input to the club from 2 Administrations with the new owners.

And others have done much more than me.
I won’t be dictated to by 200 wannabees.

And you know what ? Have it. It’s yours.

Together Our Spirit Is Unbreakble

As the tile says - if you believe this, fellow fans believe this and the HF truly believe this.... what is happening with the 'Singing Section' is simply wrong. No-one is winning from this solution the club have cobbled together. A proper discussion needs to be had with ALL parties involved.

As such, this petition has been started to promote a discussion with the club on behalf of ALL parties, so this is properly planned and implemented - rather than the knee-jerk decisions the club currently seems to be making.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

We all want a unified Selhurst - with the best atmosphere possible - which certainly would include a signing section and the HF at the forefront of this..... what we have been handed to us is a half-arsed plan that hasn't been thought out and simply isn't fit for purpose. It will not create the Singing Section many wanted, will seriously disadvantage many loyal fans and therefore divide the support rather than unify them.

I would love to think the HF recognise this plan is not the right one and spread the word to have this planned properly - as after all as they stated 'Together Our Spirit Is Unbreakable'

Norway Cup 1982

Crystal Palace won the Norway Cup for the youngest age group (12 years old or younger) in 1982. Norway Cup was the worlds largest tournament for junior footballers at the time, and perhaps still is. They progressed to the final where they beat KFUM Oslo (with a certain Henning Berg (later of Blackburn and Man. Utd) in their ranks)) 7-0. They also went through the entire tournament without letting in a single goal, and I believe they still are the only team to have ever done so in this tournament. I remember watching them in their first game in the preliminary rounds where they won 10-0 or something (forgot who they played against), and was mighty impressed. After the demise of the team of the eighties this brought fresh hope for the future.
If there is anyone who know more about this team, who where the players, did anyone of them progress to have a league career at Palace or at other clubs, etc, it would be interesting to know.

Has anyone actually seen The Bromley Boys movie?

mardi 9 octobre 2018

Not heard any reviews or comments on here, so I'm guessing no one has seen it, or an interest in seeing it.

Which is probably the problem with a movie like this... it would appear to have a very specific audience, and not many fit that category.

I probably fit the target audience as it's set about when I started to watch Bromley pretty regularly and I've read the book. Hopefully I will get to see it somehow one day.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Dulwich friendly

So a bit of light-hearted fun.

The club have announced the squad:
Speroni, Tupper, Ward, Mitchell, Dann, Kelly, O’Dwyer, Tavares, Riedewald, Williams, Puncheon, Meyer, Flanagan, Kaikai, Ayew, Wickham, Daly.

Who can pick the actual starting XI correctly?

I will go with
Speroni
Ward - Kelly - Dann - Mitchell
Flanagan - Meyer - Puncheon - Ayew
Wickham - KaiKai

DofE claims private school fees part of education spend when defending State funding

Whilst defending State educations funding, Gibb claimed that not only were schools getting more money than ever, the UK was the "third highest spender on education in the world".

Turns out this is only true if you include both University fees and private education fees.

Typical Tory lies if you ask me, but I'm sure someone can defend it. Thoughts?

Man mugged in Japan

A man was mugged near a major Japanese railway station in Osaka and had the paper bag he was carying stolen. Turns out he had just over £350,000 in cash in it....

"When asked about the matter, the victim told police that he received the money from an acquaintance in Osaka. He was then going to pass it on to another acquaintance from Nagoya."

Yeah right

We are no better than last year, possibly worse

On a lot of the threads the default answer seems to come down to - remember where we were last season 7 games no points no goals etc etc. Even Roy has used this in the media.

No we should remember that over the whole of last season we got 44 points for an 11th placed finish. However......

When you take the like for like games from last season to this (substituting the promoted team in order in for the relegated ones) we have exactly the same number of points from the games this season.

Last year after 8 games we had played 4 of the top 6, so far this we have played 4 of the bottom 5! We had scored 8 goals conceding 10 a GD of -2. This season we have scored just 5 and conceded 9 for a GD of -4.

Last year was skewed by the prevalence of top 6 teams in our early games. A more qualitative comparison of last season to this shows that we are no better than last season and arguably worse.

This could of course all change very easily over the next 5 games, afterall we lost every one of them last season with an 11 goal hit to our GD. To better our position after 13 games we need to do better than P5 W0 D1 L4 GD-13.

The way we are playing at the moment how many are confident we will do that?

BEWARE CORAL ON-LINE!

Hi all,

Just a quick line about an experience I had at the end of last month with my Coral on-line account.

I placed a straight tricast bet for £4 on a dog race at Doncaster at the back end of September and as I hit "bet", I got a message up stating that there had been a server error. You'll probably all know that if a price changes, the bet is not struck until you "review and bet" which is the message I then got. Being a tricast, I knew there was no price change and wanting to get the bet on quickly, I hit the "review and bet". I got a 2nd server error message and repeated this again until I finally got the bet placed. Shortly after, I checked my balance and found that all 3 bets had been placed, a total of £12.

Despite contacting Coral and explaining the server error message, they failed to refund the duplicate stakes (OK, the bet lost and it would be interesting to know what would have happened had it won!). It was only after much stubborn procrastination on their part and after I closed my account that they apologised profusely and offered 3 x £4 free bets if I re-opened. I have not taken this option as the whole thing was a matter of principle and I have suggested they donate the £12 to the retired greyhounds trust.

I also advised, at time of closing the account, that I would relate this incident in as many places as I could as a warning to those using or thinking of opening a Coral account.

I have therefore carried out my promise and I thank you for indulging me. If anyone has had a similar experience, it would make interesting reading.

Laptop battery question

My poor student daughter is reporting her 6 month old HP Pavilion is losing charge very rapidly. She did a battery health check and got the following diagnostics.

She says she has managed the battery responsibly (not leaving it constantly plugged in). She phoned Curry's for support and they said it wasn't registered so they couldn't help.

I can see that it's lost about 15% of its maximum capacity, which seems a bit poor for 6 months with a perfectly reasonable number of cycles (137 vs design life of 1000), but doesn't explain very reduced battery life in practice.

Also what is "PrimaryCellVoltage4: 0mV"

Is that capacity or charge? Do the cells discharge together or one after another?

Could this be a fault?

Bad Dreams in the Night

dimanche 7 octobre 2018

Serious question anyone else from what is now called Night Disturbances. Over the last year or so have been suffering with these more than just restless sleep. Culminating in throwing myself out of bed cracking my head open on the bedside cabinet and ending up in And E having head wound stitched up. Now no bedside cabinet but have still thrown myself out of bed a few times since, also involves throwing a few punches kicking screaming talking in my sleep.
Tried to identify triggers dairy products alcohol etc but to no avail. Looking for any advice products etc that has helped others.

We dont need the HF, it's on all of us.

Who ever the bloke was at the back of block N during the 2nd half who shouted at people for being quiet, We need more people like you. I shouted back 'start a chant then' which he did instantly which lasted 15 seconds and got afew people involved before dying out.

We need people to stand up and become the chant starters from the gap that has been left by the HF. I saw this incident as a waking of a consciousness that individual chant starters need to step up, it's naturally going to take time.

No way of knowing if this bloke is on the BBS, but Im going to do my bit in the area to get it going.

We all need to find like minded people in each of our blocks to get it going, great if the HF come back, but we dont need them, it's on all of us. Lets stop waiting for them.

Test

Poll test

Suggestion: Krzysztof Piatek

The center forward for Genoa can't do nothing but score. His goal ratio this season is ridiculous and he looks a real handful. Superb in the air and a good finisher, only 23 years of age too. He's being linked with bigger clubs already but then other players have been and joined similar size clubs to ourselves.

Things You Miss About Selhurst/Fort Neef..

If you ever did indeed.

For me it will always be Melfort Road Fish Bar.
Best fish and chips you could ever have.

How many creative or attacking players do we have in the squad who are first-teamers?

Not enough. I think we can rule out Sorloth after today's shambles where a defensive mid is preferred to him as an attacking change. So that leaves us with:

Townsend
Zaha
Benteke
Ayew

Which means with just one injury to Benteke we don't have enough attacking midfielders/strikers to even play 4-4-2 properly. Added to that, Ayew is not good enough, so we are reliant on Andros, Zaha and Benteke. So with one injury we don't even have enough players to play 4-3-3 properly either! What happens if Townsend or Zaha get injured as well? The squad is full of centre mids. There are no attacking mids. How did we let this happen?

Suggested Team and Formation For: Everton 21st october

Think its time we started to play the players we signed in the transfer window

We really are so week in attack its time to move wilf out wide but use ayew as he can play left and right wing so move them around throughout the match and confuse the hell out of em

And give the armband to tomkins

Stupid or immature things you’ve done when Palace lose...

I’m sure I’m not alone that I hate it when we lose, but tonight I noticed it more.

Of course, we’ve all used losing as an excuse to drink more to compound our misery but what stories have you got to tell?

Stupidly, I had a shower tonight and as I got changed I got some socks out of the drawer and picked out some Palace ones (first I grabbed), looked at them, chucked them back in the draw muttering under my breath “f—king twats”.

I recall in the past years ago, leaving after an abysmal display with my Dad and he chucked his Palace scarf in the bin en route to the car.

What have you done in disgust or anger?

The 70 million dollar question-well 2 actually!

If we are struggling come January do we cash in and strengthen (assuming we have no magic pots of gold) on Wilf.

With hindsight, was 70m too good to refuse in the summer and would we be in this position if we had?

Gloves

Is it just me that gets annoyed by 4 of our players deciding they need to wear gloves today?!

I thought so

But anyways, gloves?! Are they really feeling that cold and need gloves in order to ‘perform’ at the start of October

Appears they weren’t even up for the fight before leaving the dressing room

We all need to kick ourselves up the arse.

I don't post in here much nowadays. And I probably should not post when I am this angry. But given the 2 weeks I have had I am feeling like, **** it, I want to get something off my chest after today.

The only people who had an ounce of passion inside that stadium today were likely to have orange shirts on. It was a ******* embarrasment on the pitch. It was a ******* embarrasment off the pitch. Who showed passion today?who showed leadership? Who was pro active in the crowed and showed they were more than just a follower, that they were ******* crystal palace, LOUD AND PROUD???

We do this every ******* year. We get into our internal squabbles that quite frankly I AND MANY OTHERS DO NOT GIVE A FLYING **** ABOUT. We point fingers at eachother instead of taking responsibility ourselves. This includes me. I can always do more.

Blame the chairman. Blame the manager. Blame the players. Truth is every ******* year we get complacent. Lets find our ******* tounges for arsenal and tottenham, and hope that players respond in kind, or this might be a harder bloody season than we thought.

Rant over.
