Fixture Information Brighton Match Arrangements

mardi 3 avril 2018

Although there is another thread about the Brighton home match it is mainly about ticketing. I thought it important that details of the match arrangements be easy to find on the first page of a separate thread as nothing appeared in the Liverpool programme. The most annoying aspect of the infamous 'wall' was not knowing in advance so that we could plan accordingly.

Please add any useful information and pass the word on.

Ticketing

Any misuse of season tickets, membership scheme or unauthorised resale of tickets is likely to be followed up and risks being considered as touting and illegal.

The away ticket allocation of 2000 is sold out. Tickets will have the purchaser’s name and ground entry will depend on the appropriate supporting photo ID or BHAFC season ticket.

Pre-Match/Travel

Selhurst Park will be open from 1.30pm as normal for home supporters and 1.00pm for away supporters to enable the ticket and security checks. All supporters are encouraged to arrive in good time for the match to ensure entry in time for kick off. The usual bottles, banners, large bags and pyrotechnic restrictions will apply. All fans are advised to bring as little as possible to avoid delays on entry.

Brighton anticipate bringing 9 coaches to the match, which are expected to be parked in Whitehorse Lane, up from Park Road. This may affect traffic along Whitehorse Lane causing some delays.

Due to the the larger security cordon around the away area, home supporters may wish to avoid using the lower section of Park Road.

Relevant travel news/updates will be notified 48 hours before the match to coach companies and communicated over social media channels including the Palace and Brighton club websites.

Supporters should be aware there may be touts and unauthorised scarf sellers operating near the ground. (Unauthorised sellers are not permitted on Crystal Palace and Sainsbury’s land including the Petrol Station.)

Pubs

Most pubs near Selhurst Park are viewed as home supporters only. Some will be applying special restrictions or like 'The Victory' may even close on the day.

Checks will be made with pub licensees about accepting away supporters. These are more likely to be in and around Croydon than in the immediate vicinity of Selhurst Park and the areas around East Croydon Station including the Box Park could be crowded. The police will decide on the match day whether away supporters should be escorted to the ground from any areas or pubs.

Stewarding and Policing

Inside the stadium the match will be stewarded by Palace and Brighton stewards who will accompany the Brighton supporters. Police from the London area will be on duty around the ground and are only expected to intervene within the ground if required. Police support will include the use of horses and drug/ pyrotechnic search dogs outside the ground. Other dogs will be kept in vans and only deployed if the situation requires.

Within the ground half of block V and half of block U in the Arthur Wait stand will be kept empty to form a stewarded sterile zone between away and home areas. Netting will be placed on the front rows of seats and near the Family Stand.

Supporters conduct will have a direct effect on the restrictions applied at any further meetings of the clubs including the future ticket allocations at both grounds. Offensive or homophobic chants will not be tolerated and may result in ejection or arrest.

Post Match/Travel

The Selhurst Park stadium area is anticipated to clear within a short time as usual.

Palace supporters however will have some restrictions on leaving the stadium:-

Whitehorse Lane end supporters will be required to exit via the Private Road Gates X and Y only. There will be no exit available through Gate A into Park Road.

There will be no access back into Park Road from Whitehorse Lane after the game until the area is cleared.

Palace supporters exiting from the Arthur Wait and Holmesdale stands by Park Road will be required to turn right only from the exits. There will be no wall, other than a police cordon which will stop access to Whitehorse Lane via Park Road. Access to Sangley Road may also be restricted on the day.

These restrictions are likely to make the Private Road behind the Main Stand very crowded for a short while after the game so fans walking back to Thornton Heath are advised to use Clifton Road.

Supporters wanting to go towards South Norwood Hill are advised to use Holmesdale Road and Whitworth Road.

Brighton supporters will be held back within the stadium and the cordoned area immediately outside in Park Road for around 15 minutes post match with catering facilities available to them. After this Brighton supporters, other than those travelling by train, will be able to exit, turning left, to board their coaches or to take other road transport. Supporters will be kept advised and loud-hailers deployed to convey information/directions.

Brighton supporters will be escorted to Norwood Junction station where Southern Rail will provide a train post-match for 1000 Brighton supporters – calling at Three Bridges, Haywards Heath and Brighton. Entry to the station may be restricted for a short while after 5.45pm as they are escorted to the designated platform.

It is not anticipated that this special train will affect supporters of both clubs wishing to travel from Norwood Junction to other destinations. However there are no direct trains between the Brighton area and Norwood Junction so East Croydon platforms may also become congested.

Supporters may also wish to avoid parking in Sangley Road and in Holmesdale Road and Oliver Grove on the route back to the station unless they leave promptly after the game.

Supporters with disabilities that may have difficulties due to the proposed post-match plans should contact the Disability Liaison Officer Pam Groves on 0208 768 6080
