These are the games remaining for the teams chasing Palace in the Premier League table :

Bournemouth 29 points

Southampton h Newcastle a Swansea h Spurs a Man City h A Villa a
Liverpool h Chelsea h Everton a West Brom h Man United a

Swansea 27 points

Arsenal a Norwich h Bournemouth a A Villa h Stoke a Chelsea h Newcastle a
Leicester a Liverpool h West Ham a Man City h

Norwich 24 points

Chelsea h Swansea a Man City h West Brom a Newcastle h Palace a
Sunderland h Watford h Arsenal a Man United h Everton a

Newcastle 24 points

Stoke a Bournemouth h Leicester a Sunderland h Norwich a Swansea h
Liverpool a Palace h A Villa a Spurs h

Sunderland 23 points

Palace h Southampton a Everton h Newcastle a West Brom h Leicester h
Norwich a Arsenal h Stoke a Chelsea h Watford a

Aston Villa 15 points

To reach 38 points Norwich, Newcastle and Sunderland probably need to win 40% of their remaining games and so far they have won just 22% of their first 27 games.

This brings the chances of catching Palace who already have 32 points into perspective as Palace have a goal difference advantage over them which is worth an extra point.

Do we need a Director of Football?

rather than a new manager, some Pardew trusts, who has experience of the game, who'll act as a sounding board for ideas but try not to get too involved or want to take the job himself? someone a bit removed from the situation who can try to work on a few things.

What if we stay up?

Just a thread to combat all the negative doom and gloom posters.
If/when we stay up, what can we expect next season. Feel free to say all positive things

My palace west brom review

Baggies'd up and gift tagged for 3 points.

Trip to west brom. A team we have beaten on a regular basis it feels. A team toothless going forward and missing a lot of its defence to injury, although some are coming back now, renown for its defensive tactics and grinding out results under pulis. I was expecting a boring game. How wrong could I be!

The game started in dire fashion. Neither team could pass the ball, I think about the first 6 minutes were played as if the players were all blindfolded. Every pass was a yard out or just plain going straight out. These two teams looked like it was the first match back pre season. This all changed on 10 minutes. Suddenly west brom strung together a few passes and palaces defence obliged by looking clueless with their marking, the ball is at sessegnons feet in the box and his effort is well saved by henessey (maybe he is sucked into the near post too much making the save harder, that is debatable and I would leave to an expert) but the ball falls to Gardner in the middle of two defenders and he easily puts away the rebound. Watching it again it looks like the 5% of confidence and decisiveness which seems gone at present has cost us. The players just looked off the pace a fraction and at the top level that costs you games.

With that goal the game continued in the same vein. Nit picky, misplaced passes, no adventure. Then palace gave away a free kick at the edge of the box near to the byline. But I was sat here thinking, "it's ok, they have a big team but we are great at defending set pieces, isn't it just 2 goals this season so far? Bread and butter". Then they simply ping the ball in, 10 yards out, centre of the box and there is a west brom man on his own with the easiest of headers to bang straight into the corner. Craig Dawson the man, the palace defence looking confused. The best description I feel would be like they were all still half cut from the night out Friday and the man who was marking Dawson was also the guy who was supposed to buy the bacon for the fry ups. Except that no one had been told to get the bacon. That they had been on the piss would also explain why pardew looked like he did, but more on that later.

So, it's ok. Palace can come back from this. I believe, in spite of all the recent results. I am riding the buoyancy of the Spurs game, I saw the potential, we can do this!

Then 30minutes came and their third attempt on goal came. To be fair to them, this is one of those goals you simply have to applaud for its quality. A clearance smacked to the centre circle, they move the ball out wide to sessegnon and he delivered a through pass to berahino between the two defenders, flighted through the air in perfection leaving him little to do other than slot the ball home. No chance for keeps this time. And bam. 3-0, 30 minutes in, palace haven't been in their area yet with the ball, hadn't done anything meaningful at all really.

The rest of the half went without mention, well other than another shot from west brom deflecting off Dann to hit the post and palace shooting wide in their first foray up the pitch. Nothing really worth going on about.

I bet pards was happy at half time.

The second half started with the messiah yannick bolasie replacing adebayour and the team reverting to 4-5-1. We'll sort of. It seemed like bolasie and zaha were given the licence to roam and get on the ball as much as possible. The dynamic to the team suddenly shifted and we looked like a new lease of life had been injected into the team. And it only took 4 minutes for the breakthrough, although I would say it was a gift than a breakthrough. A back pass was inexplicably left to bounce by olsson and he tried to block wickham, who just pushed past, beat the keeper to the ball knocking it high into the air and then tapping it in for his first true goal of the season.

Suddenly west brom looked rattled and a shadow of their former selves. The game became one way traffic save for a almost game ending breakaway which ended with berahino curling a shot against the top right apex of the goal.

Palace were being pulled forward by the guile and movement of bolasie, he gave us the dimension we were missing before. Havoc and indecision amongst their entire team. There were then 2 key referee decisions that I think decided the outcome of the game. Firstly from a corner that was beautifully drifted in, Scott Dann rose gleefully, realising that the ball was landing slap bang on the centre of his forehead, he had a cheeky look in his eyes but just as the moment was arriving he was barged in the back. Goal number 7 for the season ripped from his grasp. The referee? He was apparently watching Ledley, or Pokemon, but for sure not the game in front of him.

Maybe Ledleys beard is just too much? Are referees losing focus gazing into its splendour? Does he need to shave for referees to actually give a decision palaces way? It makes sense in my eyes. All these games with dodgy decisions or missed fouls he was just gazing into Ledleys beard.....

Then we had a second clear cut penalty rejected, bolasie let the ball run across him and was taken out as he skipped away to go get it right in the centre of the penalty area, ball running to the right. Referee looked like he was already rejecting the shout before he hit the ground. The pundits said 2 blatent penalties, MOTD said so too, every watching the game did. Except one man dressed in black.

The game continued with us pounding at their box, eventually the moment of a second goal came and what a cracker it was. The ball fell to wickham from a free kick on the left hand side of the box and he fired a bullet like shot into the top right corner of the goal. Unstoppable and the kind of goal to settle a game not be lost within the result.

Sadly whilst palace continued to plug away the game kind of got away from us towards the end and the time wasting came in earnest. The game peetering out with a 3-2 loss.

A big thing to also note was the continuing lack of protection from the referee. Again and again the fouls went unpunished, it was close to battery by the time he had to be subbed and he looked like a broken man. Physically beaten off the pitch. And no it's not wilf its poor cabaye. Targeted game after game with kicks, hard challenges, off the ball pushes, shoves, all sorts. In turns by their entire team and it gets ignored. The ref after one such incident ignored him, looking down on him like a piece of shit off his shoe. You cannot make this stuff up.

Overall the game was horrible to watch as the second half was as good as the first was bad but we walked away empty handed again. Against a poor team too. The team looked so bad first half and yet so good second half. I really want the two up front to work, in the way that Watford have made a success, with our wingers putting in crosses for them to attack but we just don't see it. We do need a better midfield with someone who can provide some penetration down the middle which the hope was cabaye would but he just isn't that kind of player. He isn't slipping through balls for players to run on to at all sadly, he is spending his time defensively. We need a foil in there to be more attack minded, in that classic Gerard/lampard way, who pushes forward, creates and draws players into the middle. Too often we saw wilf with 3 men on him 1st half which then became 2 second half with bolasie on the pitch, but imagine if they simply couldn't do that because of the talent down the middle too. I don't see anyone in the squad who provides that (punch last season to an extent but that has never returned this season) which was why I was surprised shelvey wasn't even mentioned as an option during January. But maybe that's all being left till the summer. As long as we stay up....

The players - it's not worth talking about who was bad first half as they all were. Second half the opposite. The shining light was of course bolasie but also wickham needs credit for his two goals, finally we may see some confidence from him and the floodgates open? We can only hope!

Next up will be a Liverpool returning from the cup final, the into reading. It would be great to go into the cup not worrying about the league form too....

Assuming we stay up this Season. Who to manage us next August ?

On the assumption that we stay up. And it is a big assumption on recent form.

The opening game at Selhurst for the 2016/17 season. Who would you like to see standing in the technical area , wearing a Palace tie and shouting instructions to the boys ?

1. Pardew - Give him a chance to prove the naysayers wrong.
2. Another manager you can name
3. Take pot luck on whatever newcomer the bosses can hire.

Suggestion: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

It's obvious that the wingers we have are the best pair in the Premier League, and it should be obvious to people that Wickham will score goals and do a good job for years to come in the lone role up front.

But we are seriously lacking in options for the No10 position. Puncheon has been woeful all season, it isn't really Jimmy Mac's position, Cabaye plays in a deeper role, Chamakh is unfit and probably finished, CYL is deemed too lightweight and Mutch is mediocre despite recent improvement. We are scoring very few goals from central positions just outside the box. What we need to find is someone who can break at pace, who works hard, and can score from long range.

Step forward Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. He's still young, can shoot and dribble, wants to play in centre mid, London based, we are not a rival to Arsenal and apparently he is surplus to requirements if the correct transfer fee can be paid. Not saying we don't need bodies in other positions, but for me the No10 position is the chronic weakness the club needs to solve. The Ox would transform us.

Alarmed

This winless stretch has been painful to endure. There is no doubt that 10 games without a win requires serious self-examination, but what is so concerning to me is how many people have turned the BBS into an emotional, negative, irrational place. Pardew has certainly made mistakes (he made a ton even when we were winning), but he has done enough to earn our trust. 10 winless games (if you choose to ignore the FA Cup) may seem like an eternity in football, but it is still an extremely small sample size. Pardew has not forgot how to manage. The players are still giving it their all. We could still yet have a historic season. I know the silent majority have kept some perspective, but here's a friendly reminder for those that haven't:

  • Our 5th place position for the first half the season was a false position and one that was unsustainable. It has created unrealistic expectations. Although we played better during the first half the season than we are now, we took advantage of a serious amount of luck. Conversely, our luck on the field during this stretch has been poor.
  • Even in this 10 game winless streak we have beaten 3 Premier League teams in the FA Cup, all who put out strong sides. This includes two great away wins at Southampton and Tottenham. We now are a win away against Reading from going to Wembley for the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
  • In addition to our bad luck on the field during this stretch, our luck off the field has been even worse. Bolasie, McArthur, Sako, Gayle, Wickham, Ledley, and Puncheon have all missed significant time during this stretch. Replacing these players in January would have been near impossible. Most of these players are now back which gives us great reason for optimism for the rest of the season.
  • Despite all of this, we are almost certainly not going to get relegated. I have seen so many posts on here saying "relegation is inevitable" or "Pardew has to go if we have any chance of staying up." Yet, we are still 28/1 to get relegated. Is it impossible? Of course not. But it's highly improbable. We are 4 times more likely to win the FA Cup than get relegated.

We are rightly considered the best fans in the country. Now let's prove it.

Lack of discipline- bad coaching?

The lack of discipline showed by some of our more experienced players was a little worrying. What has happened to the defence? Both Kelly and Ward gave away needless free kicks as did Mutch and let's not talk about Jedinak, in theory one of most experienced players committing a foul outside our area when we are chasing the game with three minutes to go. What has happened to the coaching of these players? What is the sports psychologist doing?

Have we become Newcastle fans?

We have 11 games left with some big players coming back ending a horrific injury crisis, we've started to score finally and we have to play teams with truly awful defensive records. Plus we have the chance of an fa cup semi final. Yet are we turning on the team just like the "best fans in the world"

Discuss. Ps you should all read the Mag to see what a pathetic bunch of fans looks like.

Worst Night's Sleep Since 31 May 2010

I was unable to go last night to the game. I did see it though on Sky. The first half was the worst I've seen since Hillsborough. I am a ST holder and see as many away games as possible. We really missed Macarthur and Puncheon in midfield protecting the back 4. The whole team were half paced. 4-4-2 with no creative midfield against the worst team in the division - bar their front 3 who exploited this, was at best, suicidal.

What really troubled me though was the lack of passion and urgency by the whole team in the first half. No exceptions. It really shocked me. Even on our return to the PL, the team that lost 9 of the first 10 games had some passion every game - with an inferior squad.

It was a different team entirely to the one that turned Spurs over the previous week.

We are in relegation form right now. We are free falling into a relegation fight. We need 3 wins from somewhere. Tuesday night is out BIGGEST game this season - no doubt. This game and Norwich at home represent our best chance of 3 points per game this season.

I am going to ignore the usual complaints about a ref that did miss two stick on pens in the second half for a push on Dann by McAuley and a foul on Bolasie by Gardner. Wickham was our best player yesterday and had a decent second half.

Pardew really needs to counteract teams that "nobble" Wilf and Cabaye. It happened again yesterday. Even Sky said that Wilf has had the most fouls committed against him this season in the PL. Most importantly, and tactically, we need to perhaps stiffen our defensive resolve now, and get midfield to protect the back 4 better. Also, perhaps, Pardew should revert to 4-5-1 or 4-4-1-1 as this works better for our counter attacking style. To survive in the PL this season may mean compromising on our maverick style a bit. The FA Cup is different and we can play without fear and with freedom. PL survival is critical.

I'm sure many fans watching the game last night were really as troubled as me and really upset at the performance.

Palace is family and it felt like a member passed away last night. Sorry if this sounds melodramatic but that is how I feel and I love this club.

The whole squad needs to turn up and perform and get a result on Tuesday and then against the bindippers next Sunday to improve morale and confidence of the squad, management and all fans. This has been a tough few months to endure in the PL.

On a final note, we have not won in the PL since the American investment. Superstitious Coincidence?

Cup v league

Does one distract from the other?

Tuesday

We need a big reaction on Tuesday !!!

If we manage to get the 3 points IMO Sunderland and Villa will definitely finish below us and if Norwich were to lose as well the gap to them would be 11 points with a better goal difference with 10 to play that should just be enough.

Got to treat Tuesday like a cup final and hopefully get what we need !!!

9 points...

Thats what we need to salvage this season and stay safe.

Thats do-able isn't it???

17th .. a huge sigh of relief and then Parish puts his hands in his pockets, and this time not to check for his keys.

West Ham last year

I'm trying to remain positive despite the fact that the team are totally depressing me at the moment. Didn't West Ham go on a terrible run last year after starting the season well? So if we manage to stay up we can still do well next year, can't we?
Please agree with me! Desperately wondering where our next win is coming from.
Also why is it that we put up with our team performing so poorly?
In any other occupation if a worker were to perform as badly as our players have they would at the very least face disciplinary action.

Pulis

A lot has been posted on what happened today, I can't see anything about Pulis.
Did we get beat because he knew too much about us. It appeared WBA targeted Joel Ward at left back and also targeted the space in behind Delaney. A lot was made of Bolasie coming on which did make a huge difference however at the same time Ward switched with Kelly which seemed to give us some control and enable us to move forward.

Cheating Northeners: Guiseley

Pulis is a cubt

Joe Leadley's beard slowing him down and pissing the team off...taking us down!

Time for his Beard to go! Looks crap and is probably the reason we didn't win today!

Is there an attitude problem within the squad?

Certain players body language never looks like its where it should be and is it dragging down the squad?

Suggested Team and Formation For: Sunderland (away)

----------------------Hennessey----------------------------------
Ward---------Dann---------------Delaney--------------Kelly
--------------Cabaye------------Jedinak-------------------------
---------------------------Mutch----------------------------------
Zaha---------------------------------------------Bolasie
-----------------------Wickham------------------------------------

Keep it tight. Jedinak in for his leadership. 4-5-1. And bring on attacking subs later. Would love it if Sako was fit for 20 mins.

Sunderland is a must win

No doubt about it.
10 winless games the rot must end.
Play team we played second half and we have a chance.

Second half today was better but still doesnt excuse the ******* shambles of a first half.
We need points on the board.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Palace v West Brom (away)

Was The First Half Formation the Exact Same as vs Tottenham?

If it wasn't what was different?

If it is the same, why should it have been different? (except for the result).

Does Pardew post-match interviews identify and criticize individual players ?

i have noticed Pardew do this often after we have had a bad game. What is the effect on our players, getting the blame in public and on telly where you cannot hide or respond.

writing this while the boys are losing at West Brom, i bet Pardew will do it again today. Very many managers do not criticize their own players publicly. Pardew does. Managers can have a go at referees or have a go at opposition players, bemoan bad luck, the weather, fixture congestion, injuries ...whinge whinge.....fine. But your own players ? What does this do to team morale ?

Surely good management is to praise people publicly and to give them a rollicking behind closed doors ? Even many of the nasty 'hard men' of football management do not blame their own players publicly.

The end of What The Papers Say.

Sad to read that What The Papers Say is disappearing after 60 years. I think we are losing an institution which very often illustrates how the world turns. The argument is that the programme's content, namely the papers, are literally disappearing. I'll miss this little piece of life.

Will a Leave EU vote be honoured or a 2nd referendum called ?

Despite what the EU and Cameron have said , I am no longer sure given the Chancellors comments today that there won't be a new deal offered by the EU if a Leave vote wins , Followed by a second referendum .

The chancellor told the BBC: "The financial leaders of the world's biggest countries have given their unanimous verdict and they say that a British exit from the EU would be a shock to the world economy - and if it's a shock to the world economy imagine what it would do to Britain."

Lord Howard also upping the Anti on the second referendum question .
To view the link you have to Register or Login

Mr Cameron has dismissed talk of a second referendum as being “for the birds”, insisting he would respond to a Leave vote by immediately triggering Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, which sets out a two-year process for negotiating terms for withdrawal.

But Lord Howard suggested he could pause the process by up to a month for EU leaders to come back with a better deal for Britain. “I think it is quite likely that during that month they would say ‘let’s talk some more, let’s see if we can reach a different agreement and perhaps you could have a second referendum’. If, after a month or so they don’t, then Article 50 would have to be triggered and negotiations to leave would begin,” he told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.

This is the law that will lead to even more schools being forced to become academies regardless of the views of local people, parents, teachers and pupils.

Meanwhile, academy bosses remain unelected, unaccountable and rather prone to financial mismanagement in their favour; the DfE presses on with a mindless, test-driven regime, and academies are getting rid of any pupils who'll drag their results down.

Reunification Express - Vietnam

In early July we are going to Vietnam from Hanoi to Saigon by train. We'll be calling at Ninh Binh, Hue, Hoi An, and Nah Trang along the way. I've noticed that a few of you have travelled South East Asia and wondered if you had any hints or tips in relation to any of these places, especially the train and other public transport. Things like, should we book tickets in advance or pick them up on the day. I've read conflicting information on this subject when researching.

We've booked a hotel in Nha Trang, but after reading that it's mainly owned by Russians and is just a tourist beach type place, I don't know whether to bother. If anybody can recommend another place along the line between Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh that's worth checking out instead, I would be grateful.

I'm Offski

Some of you will be absolutely delighted to hear this, most won't give a shit, but this is a cheerio from me to the BBS.

I will still read from afar as this place can be absolutely brilliant at times & has given me many laughs. Not only that, but also great advice like when I ran a marathon & the running thread was invaluable, etc.

However, over the last 6 or so months, I've literally just found myself arguing with people on here constantly (quite often my own fault) & I can't be done with the aggro any more. Supporting Palace should be fun & arguing with people about it just isn't.

Selhurst Celtic, WCB, Chocky, etc - thank you for genuinely entertaining me when I'm at my desk & bored off my tits at work.

Cheers & Eagles. :p

Rumour: Scandanavian attacking midfielder Markus Henriksen

Crystal Palace are tracking Markus Henriksen who currently captains Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar. Aged 23, Henriksen started his career with Rosenborg in his homeland, moving to Alkmaar in 2012. Since heading to the Netherlands, Henriksen has played 131 games, scoring 29 goals and registering 16 assists as an attacking midfielder. He has also won 24 caps for his country. This season he has scored 11 goals in 21 games. Sounds damn good!!

The collapse of journalism and the rise of the Internet in one headline

From the Daily Star online:

'Which colour keeper kit has seen least goals conceded in the capital?'

Won't dignify it with a link as that is 'Their' (the digital marketers, the media owners, the writers of facile crap) intention ie to garner click throughs.

RIP decent writing, reporting and professional journalism 1780s to 2000s.

Long live a mixture of democratic, egalitarian marketing and and fan pap, PR and propaganda >?

Rumour: Liam Gibson

Supposedly tracking him. A left back up at Newcastle, sounds like he will be out of contract in the summer if he doesn't sign a new deal.

Ball in tube game from 1990s

Does anybody remember the name of a game that was out in the 1990s it consisted of a tube that was flat on the bottom and had some sort of flipper or firing mechanism at either end and the object was I think to fire the ball down the tube at your opponent who had to defend himself by firinng it straight back at you?

Match Updates: Midweek games 23rd & 24th

CPFC Ticket Account - Help or Advice needed

I really do hate online accounts.

My wife has a client reference number and therefore an account with CPFC.

At first we couldn't log on to the account because we had no password. We tried resetting the password but it did not recognise the wife's e-mail address.

Finally managed to log on using client reference, surname and post code.

Now the fun really starts. The reason the account didn't recognise my wife's e-mail address was because there wasn't one listed in her personal details. So we added her e-mail address.

Now because she hadn't been onto the account, there was no password. Because there was no password, we couldn't create a password.

So I thought okay, log out of the account and do the password reset thing.

Did this, got the message that an e-mail had been sent, guess what? No bloody e-mail. I guess this is because there was no password so therefore it couldn't be reset.

What do we do to get this account up and running? Any bright ideas?

Does someone have a direct line number that they can send me other than the 0800 ticket line. I don't want to sit for hours on the phone listening to a load of advertising when all I want is help with this password problem.

Thanks in advance for any useful help or advice.

Didcot Power Station appears to have exploded a bit

Major incident. Several casualties.

Rumour: Palace interested in young Newcastle LB Liam Gibson

Crystal Palace are eyeing a move for Newcastle United starlet Liam Gibson in the summer. Highly-rated at Newcastle, the 18 year old was named on the bench for the win over West Brom earlier this month. A third year scholar who has not been offered a pro contract yet, meaning he could leave for nothing in the summer. Pardew knows him from his time in charge of Newcastle.

All appearances and goals are from the Palace programme, and are regularly checked to make sure that they are not wrong. If there is no record in the programme, then Wikipedia is used, and after Wikipedia it comes down to my memory! So please correct me if any of it is wrong.

Stuff for POTD Saturday

Don't forget to bring your scarves, balloons, banners and flags along to West Brom on Saturday - it being POTD and all that.

I'll be giving out the balloons on the coaches, trains, pre-match in the pubs, and at the turnstiles before KO.

Volunteers for this task appreciated - 4000 is a lot to shift.

The future of English football - Delli Alli

Surprised there isn't a post about this grade A prick in the forum

Was so pleased to whipe that smug grin off his face on Sunday. Has got away with dirty fouls in both games and yet he is the golden boy of English football. What a w@nker

Villa lose 3-0 to their U21 Team

In a game at training!

Remi Garde watched a side of Aston Villa first team players lose 3-0 to a side largely comprised of U21s in a behind closed doors match at their Bodymoor Heath training ground last Friday.

First-team players Brad Guzan, Alan Hutton, Ciaran Clark, Kieran Richardson, Ashley Westwood, Jordan Veretout, Idrissa Gueye, and Scott Sinclair all featured for the 'senior' side.

First team regulars Leandro Bacuna and Jordan Ayew also featured, but turned out for the U21 team.

Laptop

Sorry for another what laptop thread.
I'm looking for a new one just to run office from and a bit of web browsing.
Nothing more.
Looking for under £500 maybe ever less than £400.
I had a HP before and quite frankly hate it. But it might have just been the old Windows system.

Will try and pick up a trial copy next week and see if it is any good, it sounds promising. Anything that moves away from the tripe the tabloids serve up daily can only be a good thing. It is impossible to have a neutral paper, but could be a lifeline to the EU debate.

Our FA Cup Story - From Oxford City to Tottenham

dimanche 21 février 2016

Hi all,

My friends and I are doing a Road to Wembley in this years' FA Cup. We started with our local team Oxford City back in the Autumn and have been following the winner of each tie throughout the competition.

The story has taken us to Bognor Regis, Wealdstone, Colchester and Tottenham. After today's win for Palace we will hopefully be there in Reading to cheer on Palace to Wembley.

We are trying to rekindle the magic of the FA Cup and have been writing a blog about our experiences along the way - thefacupstory.blogspot.com. The run of matches has been amazing with a massive 32 goals in 8 games.

Check out our blog or follow us on Twitter: @FACupStory

Come on Palace!

Spurs v Palace (FA Cup 5th Round) – Photos & Videos

A few of my photos from today, and what a day it was…….

The famous Alan Mullery

Not a very bright idea to introduce him at half time today, but he appeared totally bemused by the abuse he got.

Does he not understand that his legacy to CPFC is the bitter rivalry with BHA and his meeting with the Pope.

The Stick Alan Mullery got Today

Priceless!

Suggested Team and Formation For: West Brom (away)

---------------------Hennessey--------------------------------

Bolasie and Wickham to swap positions throughout the game.

Fixture Information Stoke (H) May 7th

I am traveling to this match and I was just curious with the fa cup fixtures and all that good stuff if the date or time of the match is likely to move. I've seen that the fa cup semi final date (if palace make it is the 23rd or 24th) so would the fixtures be made up by the Newcastle match on April 30th as to not have to play mid week before May 7th and possibly move the game to the 8th?

I guess better said if palace make the semi final would the Everton match then be played on the 26th or 27th? Or after the Newcastle match?

Thanks for the help.

Reading away F A Cup Quarter final

For those in the know how many points do you reckon for the Cup match as we look like getting 3,500-3,600

Capt. Eric 'Winkle' Brown dies

This fella was incredibly brave & talented. He held the world record for flying the greatest number of different types of aircraft, 487. A true, true hero.

If you feel inclined to listen to it, his Desert Island Discs interview is both entertaining & humbling.

West Brom fans throw coin at Chris Brunt

Then fought each other in the stand after their loss to Reading. Pretty shitty way to treat a person who had come over to applaud you, let alone a long serving player of your club. Good to see he went back to confront the thrower

Understand the frustration and even anger but will never understand actions like this

Fulham versus Charlton

clowns to the left of us, jokers to the right

here we are, stuck in the middle of the Prem

both teams with dire form recently. If the clowns lose this one they are almost certainly relegated....cos even Havant and Waterlooville could beat Fulham at present.

Ok... Here's a quick question for the BBS...
Sister in law is in a&e currently after being hit by bike after she got off a London bus which had stopped in traffic to let someone else off. She wasn't planning to get off the bus herself but was forced to do so in order to let the other person off (the bus was packed)...
What do you think re liability /damages in this case?
Thanks!

Popular Music Used In T.V Advertising.

This annoys me probably more than it should but I hate it when companies use great songs inappropriately.
The latest example being Wonderful Life by Black.
A truly great sad song used in such a terribly wrong way by advertisers.
There She Goes by The Las was another one. It was used to promote a feminine hygiene product. There was this tart running through a meadow with this playing in the background. A song about heroin addiction.
Do these people not research?
Any more examples?

dele alli

Dele alli great player but has a darker side to his game maybe.?
Definate kick not seen by ref last night in fiorentina lucky not to have been sent off .
And a deliberate knee on yohan cabaye at selhurst .
if indeed he continues to play for England this needs to be addressed before the euros ?, we can't have him doing that sort of thing in France .

Consumer law

Just found out an interesting thing i wanted to pass on. All electronic goods such as laptops sold in England and Wales have to work for 6 years under consumer law and if they fail because of a hardware defect within that time the seller is responsible for repair. Is that correct? If so, i thought it was useful to know

Holiday of a lifetime

3 weeks, 10k, where would you go?

What would you do?

Suggestion: Michael Carrick

Contract expires in the summer.

Absolutely class and has spent lots of time in London before.

Would we be able to get him to end his career here?

Discussion: Positions to strengthen in the summer

mercredi 17 février 2016

Under the assumption we do not get relegated (and most of us are at least slightly worried about that now) where should we strengthen and why?

For me as follows:

Need a goalkeeper (probably)
Need a centre back as backup or to partner Dann. Happy with full backs in general. Think Soare is better than he's been playing recently. Ward is defo good enough
Need a ball playing DM
Need a box to box creative midfielder
Need a proper winger as backup unless Sako starts pulling up trees. This would be my #1 priority
Need another striker

To be honest I can't see us buying that many players though. Quite a few going out obviously.

Anfield 77 minutes. Customer Power. And Southern Railway ?

So the Scousers were sick and tired of poor service, expensive prices and a senior management that has lost touch and lost confidence.

Seeing the other thread on here with everybody complaining about Southern. Why not walk away from their service ? Or travel on the service wearing a stupid outfit or carrying a bike or a smelly fish & chips takeaway ?

if the Scousers managed to make a point and draw attention to rotten service ( and achieve the goal of a management U turn ) then is there any polite and legal way we can voice our opprobrium ?

Maybe lug a few pints of milk onto the train at the morning rush hour. If Southern treat us like cattle , we can behave accordingly ?

what say you ? Are we mice or men ? If we are being financially treated like Fools then the 1st of April is a good time for all the fools to come out to play.

I Believe In Miracles

Just watched this film about Nottingham Forest winning the 1979 European Cup.

I'd highly recommend it to any football fan of a certain age.

I remember loving watching that Forest side. I was (still am) a big fan of Brian Clough.
What a team they were. John Robertson is in the top half a dozen players I've ever seen. Martin O'Neill great midfielder.
Trevor Francis, another player of real quality and to think I met him at a Palace open day and didn't even mention that game.

Despite what Ferguson achieved, Cloughy was the greatest ever manager.

WATCH THIS FILM NOW !!!!

New Security

I am curious about the new security procedures and if anyone else thinks they are now going a little over the top. I am season ticket holder in Upper Holmesdale and for the Watford game they would not allow me to enter with a thermos flask with tea. As most of you will agree queues at HT are ridiculous and so I have been resorting to bringing my own tea during winter months...but last sat I had to empty it all out and I could only enter with an empty flask.

Not the end of the world...but I think it is a little over the top esp as there are few signs of improvement in quality of service when one tries to buy tea at HT. Last summer on a hot day they had no bottles of water for sale.

Legal Eagles.... Steve Avery... Guilty or NOT

Watched the Making A Murderer film/series on netflix.....

Wrongly imprisoned for one crime then released when the real culprit was traced by DNA.... only to be charged and jailed again for a new crime at the time of claiming millions in compensation for his wrongful conviction/jaling.

Bit of a coincidence.

That apart the factors that would have made me chuck it out of court were the DNA/Stored evidence that were found by the defence to have been opened.

And the fact the investigating police despite admitting a conflict of interest still managed to find all the incriminating stuff.

However. found out Avery doused a cat and burned it in petrol when young so bit inclined to say let him rot in jail innocent or not

Match Ticket Information Small children/ infants in arms

I've had a look at the CPFC terms of entry, which uncatergorically state;

Quote:

2.10 For the safety of infants and all supporters, Home Match Tickets are not available for infants under the age of 2 or babes in arms at any time during the Season and no infant under the age of 2 or babes in arms is allowed entry to the Ground to attend a Match.
Yet there is evidence to suggest this is not applied uniformly. I've seen many a toddler in arms over the years - and of course DE's nipper had been to more grounds than the majority of Palace fans by the time he was three....

Does anyone have any practical info on taking <2 year olds along to SP?

FA Cup Final ticket allocation

Negative Interest Rates

How do negative interest rates work in reality? Can anyone explain? I can't get my head round it.

In theory the bank would pay you to have a mortgage, wouldn't they? But surely that doesn't happen. Similarly your savings account balance would reduce every year - but again surely everyone will just withdraw all of their savings until rates are positive again. So in my simple mind they are actually not a sustainable "real thing".

What experience has the world already had of negative rates? Didn't they have them in Japan for several years? Is there a limit of how low they can go?

Fire Emblem Fates

So here I am, sitting quietly and thus far patiently awaiting a release date for the Fire Emblem Fate games Birthright and Conquest. Is anyone else getting one or both (or all three with the third DLC game Revelations too) of these games?

I still can't remember who suggested Awakening to me but it's one of the best recommendations I have ever had, and I can't wait for Fates now. What with this being a quiet year for me as I don't intend to get FIFA or PES this year (both shit!), Assassin's Creed is on hiatus for a year (much needed I think), and unless Nintendo spring a surprise with a new Pokemon (unlikely) or Zelda Wii U (again, probably delayed) the Fire Emblem games could be my only game purchases of 2016.

They are due out in the US on Friday. I don't really get why a release date still hasn't been announced for Europe and Australia, there can't be much to do from the US game? Surely they could have developed them side by side.

Hurry up and come out damn you!!! :moo::veryangry

Are we near the end of paper money?

How many people still use cash? With contactless payments accepted almost everywhere using credit/debit cards and even smart phones the need for carrying cash around is becoming less and less.

In the past week or two I have noticed several reports calling to scrap 500 euro notes and 100 USD notes. The official line being used is to fight crime, money laundering and the financing of terrorism. In terms of the total physical EUR currency, the 500 notes make up around 30% and for USD the 100 notes account for 78%.

The thought of being forced to use electronic payments probably wont concern many people. What should be concerning however is the real reason behind the removal of physical money from the system.

Japan, Europe and Sweden have all already moved into negative interest rates. There are plenty of reasons to believe this will become even more widespread with Janet Yellen of the US Fed having already admitted they also see it as a possible tool to be used in future. The Bank of England already have a 0.5% base rate, with little room left to cut before going into negative territory.

The current restriction to interest rates going deeply negative is that people would quickly withdraw their funds from the bank as cash and store it at home to avoid paying their bank for the luxury of them holding on to your deposits.

Call me cynical by all means but is it not blindingly obvious what is going on here? It is no coincidence these news stories have all started coming out, and they have not all of a sudden realised that cash can be used to fund illegal activity. This is a coordinated effort from central bankers around the world to scrap cash to enable them to deploy their next policy of taking wealth from everybody to keep the wheels of the failing financial system greased - Negative Interest Rates.

Blocked guttering

As always in times of being unsure, turn to the all powerful BBS

I have noticed that my guttering is sprouting an abundance of flora and fauna. I have asked my local handy man if he wants to earn himself a few bob and gerrup a ladder and clear it out. He is hoping to do so later this week.

In the meantime I have noticed some mould on the bathroom ceiling and today droplets of water on the ceiling, which is directly adjacent to the said blocked guttering.

I'm a bit shit at DIY etc so if anyone could enlighten me as to a) is there a fair chance the 2 things are linked (I am assuming so) and b) what the likely damage is and where etc.

TIA and no sarccy shit from the usual suspects :)

Another bit of our freedom being chipped away

The right to boycott unless it is line with with government policy.

If certain people on here can rise above the specific reasons for some of the current boycotts and look at what is happening to our rights.

Under this legislation an elected local council or student body cannot boycott services or products unless it is in line with the Westminster government policy. A simple example, if this was 30 years ago boycotts of South African products and apartheid would not be legal by Student Unions and elected public bodies.

Black Wheels

No racial undertones...

I've been looking at getting a new vehicle, and see a lot of new cars, SUV's and trucks have black wheels these days, and I actually quite like the look.

My concern is how long would this look good before getting scratched down to the aluminium underneath the black anodize or paint?

Anybody drive a vehicle with black wheels? Most black trim on cars seems to fade pretty quick, so I'm concerned these would look crap after a while.

Thoughts?

Life is Strange - PC/Xbox/Playstation

Anybody played this? I got it on Steam in December and hadn't gotten around to playing it until now. What a great game. The rewind feature reminds me of the Portal 2 mod, Thinking with Time Machine.

Short synopsis, you're an 18 old girl studying photography at an elite school when you discover you have the power to rewind time. It's also a little like Until Dawn in that every decision you make affects future events. It's an episodic game like The Walking Dead but all 5 episodes are available right now. I'm not sure if my ending to Episode 3 is the only possible outcome but damn that was a mind ****.

Palace fans in Lima ?

Hi.

I go on vacation to Lima, Peru this week. Anyone know if it is possible to see the match against Tottenham on Sunday somewhere ?

vaporizer

While attending the game Saturday I witnessed an unsavory moment when someone had a vaporizer and the guy 2 seats along asked if he could stop.
The guy with the vaporizer didn’t take to kindly and started the usual who do think you are and offered the other guy out there and then.

He calmed down after a bit once his mate intervened, but was not happy and still kept moaning about it.
What is the policy on these vapor things at Selhurst.

Connor Wickham: how does he fit into our side?

There are lots of threads moaning about Pardew etc. I'm not going to join in. Although I think things will get worse before they get better because it'll take a while for Bolasie (and Sako) to get up to speed, and we have a hard run of games from March onwards, I think we will be ok in the end.

But I would like to talk about Connor Wickham. Another assist on Saturday despite being played on the wing. He has barely had a run of games, but despite this IMHO has been one of our best attackers. In fact, other than Bolasie and Zaha he has been miles ahead of the others who've been here all season - Mutch, CYL, Gayle, Chamakh and Campbell for instance pale into comparison with the contribution CW has made. He held it up and allowed us to play. He is strong on the ball, decent in the air, can pass the ball and works hard. Plus he has 3 assists, can cross the ball and has hardly been missing sitters every week. Indeed he could have had 4 or 5 but for world class saves and the post. 'Influential' is a word I would use for him.

Now EA is here, however, his place looks in jeopardy. It's self-evident he is no winger, and luckily for us Bolasie and Sako are back so it is a moot point. But where does Wickham fit in? Will he displace EA? Very unlikely considering the respective goalscoring records, and EA looked good in open play in the 2nd half vs Watford as well. So do we play 2 up front? Or Can EA or CW play in the No10 position? They may both be big lads but I would have thought, with pace on both wings, that there should be a place for EA and CW. Interested to hear people's thoughts. With JM and JP injured, MC out of favour and JM and CYL displaying patchy form, surely it's time to try CW in a withdrawn striker/No10 role? He's a better footballer with more attributes than those who have been tried there. Couldn't believe CW was withdrawn before JM at half time despite the latter's better 2nd half showing.

Training in Spain

Does anyone know where the squad is staying and training in Spain this week, I can't find a venue anywhere. Last time they stayed about 5 or 6 miles away from me.

Girls football

Not sure if this is the right forum, but does any other Palace fan have a daughter playing in a girls football team, or who help run a girls team? My twin girls who are 10 have just started playing the back end of last year. They are enjoying it and we have a couple of decent players.

Kayla

Does anyone know why Kayla has not been at the last 3 games?

a bit of useful/useless thoughts on weaknesses in our current game

dimanche 14 février 2016

just replaying the Watford game and the last few games in my head and trying to pick out some points. Rather than attack players lets look at the team unit.

weaknesses

Off the ball movement: was absolutely dire against Watford, especially in the first half when we were hoofing it long, there was no movement which meant players getting isolated with the ball and Watford breaking at pace with the ball, no point playing 2 big strikers to hold up the ball, if they're holding it up for no one. You have to keep on your toes, far far far too often, players end up flat footed and get beaten on the hop, both attacking and defending.

Defensive abilities : The biggest biggest problem with our defenders apart from maybe Dann is how positionally unaware they are, THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM AT SET PIECES/Crosses. They'll take up the right starting position but they won't transition with play, they been told where to stand and how to stand but they either don't know how to defend fluidly or they switch off and have mental lapses, This is why we get cut through so easily with single balls, our defenders are fine standing still but when they're actually asked to do something quickly they'll lose their man or lose the flight of the ball or show the attacker the wrong side or just be in completely the wrong position and drag the rest of the defenders across leaving gaps as they try to cover each other. This is why Pulis played with two holding players because the defence needed the protection from players who could read the game better.

Reading of The Game : Not everyone is bad at this, but enough are bad at it, that it kills our momentum when going forward. There one time against Watford where the right and obvious ball to play for Souare was a little dink out to Wilf to keep the pace and momentum flowing but he turned in on himself and played it cross field to Mutch, yes there was more space on that side, but the only real penetration was coming from Zaha at this point. Another time Zaha played a fantastic through ball passed two defenders and Souare just wasn't alive to it, perfectly weighted, in exactly the right lane.

Slow build up play: for a side that likes to play on the counter, we aren't very fast at build up play. this is the big reason why the crosses look worse than they are because there's usually 6 players back and one man to aim at in the mix. The biggest problem it seems is when we start playing the neat stuff in the middle and trying to break at pace, some of those who have been playing lately, namely Jedinak, just can't keep up with play and complete the passes or you've got midfielders like Mutch and McArthur and even Cabaye who are fantastic at passing sideways but no one apart from Punch can play those NFL style hollywood balls and he's been off form all season so atm the ball goes sideways for too long then into a crowded out Wilf for the same cross routine every time, there needs to be some variation. maybe cut inside and shoot once or twice, make the keeper think, at the moment, because of the slow build up and lack of movement and laborious repetition, defenders know exactly what they'll be facing and set accordingly. They don't even need to stop Wilf getting the cross in because they just crowd the forward out in the middle because of our poor off the ball movement.

These are the main aspects to what is costing us. it's like the championship season, give the ball to Wilf and hope he does something and all stand off and watch. The rest of the team should be learning from the better players, to play with your head up, have a look at what's around you, make yourself available for the ball, have an idea of what you're going to do with it before you get it, It's these simple in theory but very difficult in practice things that is the difference between us and the sides around us right now, keep moving even if it's just jogging on the spot or rocking on your toes, don't stop and start and stop and start because (im probably wrong) but that seems to me when you are more likely to get injuries? keep your movement fluid, and constant, don't overexert like Liverpool and hare around chasing after everything, but know where your sector of the pitch is and cover that sector, be organised and clear in what every player is expected to do, keep it simple, but mix it up, don't just try the same thing all the time, look for different angles, be aware of where your team mates are, help them out, back them up, make yourself an option, don't stop static because the ball is on the other side of the pitch, anticipate the flight, think of where to position yourself to be available if needed, follow in on loose balls, you don't need to be technically as good as other players if you can tactically out think them and you know how to use what you can do to make a yard for yourself, (this is how Kevin Phillips could play till he was 40, very sharp mentally, great football brain).

This will be the biggest way apart from confidence to improve the players we have. Get the basics right, retain the ball and create useful movement. Shoot as soon as you get a decent sight of goal and have someone following in on the rebounds, sometimes Wilf go outside and whip a ball across, sometimes cut inside and look for a shot, then maybe sometimes cut inside and put a low hard ball across the face and see what happens. Be cute, know when to play for fouls and how to go down so you win them. It's these basic premiership level mental things you need to do that we are particularly bad at right now, and there the behaviours you need to show to win points at this level. It's frustrating.
