Makes for concerning reading, and suggests to me that more needs to be done to prevent and manage mental health issues.

Key findings are

38% of 607 current players and 35% of 219 former players sampled reported suffering from symptoms of depression and/or anxiety.

Sleeping disturbance (23% and 28% respectively),

Distress (15% and 18%)

Adverse alcohol use (9% and 25%)

That's more than the general population.

Given the vast sums of money involved in football, you'd hope that they were able to employ people to support players who have mental health issues, or at least help them to access information/treatment. After all, it's possible that these issues are going to affect the performance of players on the pitch as well, if you wanted to look at it from that perspective.
