Live Com and Updates: Arsenal U21 (a), 31/10/22, KO: 19:00, PL2 Div 1, Live on PalaceTV+

Thought I'd make a thread seeing as the usual suspects haven't to remind people of the game tonight.

I wonder if we'll see Ferguson get a start tonight.

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after.

Play Youngsters Games at Selhurst

With yesterday being the last home game before Christmas wouldn't it be an ideal opportunity to play some of the U18 & U21 games at Selhurst. I am sure with the lack of Palace games pre-World Cup we would get some decent gates. Currently we get about 500 with just 2 sections open in the main stand for the odd U21 game, but I am sure we would get much better turnouts with nothing until boxing day planned.
It would also give the players a boost/help their development to turn out in front of larger crowds. Given the reduced admission costs and related sales this should cover any costs to the club.

50 Years Today - Following Palace

samedi 29 octobre 2022

So, 50 years ago today, as a 12 year old, I began the journey that has consumed an awful lot of my life ... following Crystal palace.

My fathers friends regularly took me to the Country Ground to watch Swindon and Don Rogers was my hero.

When he moved to SP, I switched my allegiance … and as I had the Crystal Palace Subbuteo team, it only seemed natural.

A roller-coaster is what its been …. I really could write a book I have so many memories…. Lately a lot of highs, but back in the early 80’s … it was desperate.

Best times were 1975 – 80 & 1988 – 92. Great fun following the club everywhere then. A real camaraderie on the terraces, esp away games. The whole day was an event … not just the 90 mins.

At times I was watching 30-odd games a season, but football in general holds no interest these days.

Will still watch Palace on TV, of course, but it’s a different game now. Sky have ruined it …. They have turned it into a circus .. a product .. we are now customers, just like going to the cinema … back in the day there was a bond between the club & the fans.. it was life or death. If Palace lost, it pi55ed me off for days.

I quote the Palace psyche from one of the excellent Palace books of the late 1980’s … “If its going well it wont last … if its going badly it will get worse”

Supporters of “bigger” clubs just don’t get it do they?

GOALSCORING MILESTONE

Well sort of anyway ...

So today's goal by Monsieur Odsonne Édouard was our 400th Premiership goal of this spell in the top flight (ie since and including August 2013).

If you're like me, you'll find these sort of inane statistics inexplicably compelling. If not, feel free to ignore it.

Anyway enjoy (if that's the right word).

own goal                        14

There's always a few quastions that these thinks raise. Did Max Meyer really score for us? 14 own goals scounds a hell of a lot. Connor Wickham scored 8 goals from 19 starts (only 3 were as a substitute). Shouldn't Jordan Ayew have a slightly better return than 14 goals from 132 appearances.

Etc etc etc.

Halloween crush in Seoul

Looks like 150 dead.

Suggested Team and Formation For: West Ham (a) 06/11/22

Guaita
Ward - Andersen - Guehi - Mitchell
Doucoure
Eze - Schlupp
Olise - Edouard - Zaha

Johnstone, Clyne, Tomkins, Riedewald, Milivojevic, Hughes, Ebiowei, Ayew, Mateta

How Good Are We?

12 games in. 4 wins. 4 draws. 4 defeats.

I can't decide if we're one lucky break away from being in the top 6. Or one unlucky break away from being in the relegation zone.

I suppose it's the same for all Premier league teams of our stature.

When we're firing though, I really like watching us.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Southampton (home)

Game of 2 halves:

Guaita 7 some very good saves

Mitchell 7 much improved. Pushed into midfield. Great assist
Guehi 7 one excellent tackle
Andersen 7 classy. Say it every week
Ward 6 you know what you are going to get

Milivojevic 7 thought he was actually ok.
Schlupp 6 better. Some work rather than none.
Eze 7 must have a knock otherwise why was he taken off early? Was doing ok

Zaha 7 MOM not outstanding but worked very hard and is so important to this team. Created goal
Edouard 7 decent finish. Has excellent touch. Still not sure though.
Olise 6 more involved. So much talent. Will improve with games.

Subs:

Ayew 6 normal performance.
Hughes n/a
Jairo n/a

Grinding it out. Good first half. Some half decent performances. One day we might click.

Changing Ticket from Senior to Chile

I was due to take my dad aged 77 to the Southampton game tomorrow, however, unfortunately he is ill. Does anyone know if I can change his ticket to a child ticket (and how I would go about it)

Thanks.

His nickname was the Killer and he was as wild and as willful as advertised. Great songs though and one of the creators of modern popular music over 70 years later.

Autographs after the game

Quick question. What sort of time do the players come out of the ground after the game and where do they come out from? My boys want to hang around after the game tomorrow to get some autographs and photos.

Much appreciated.

Winter Transfer Window 2023

jeudi 27 octobre 2022

Gonna be a wacky window, I'm sure, with the World Cup right before it but it's good to know that some things don't change:

Quote:

Nottingham Forest are planning to spend up to £100million in the January window to escape relegation, sources have told Football Insider.

The club’s owner Evangelos Marinakis has given the green light to another sensational spending spree.

Air conditioning installation

Having some major building work done and in about six weeks will be ready for an air conditioning unit to be fitted to complete the new kitchen/dining and living area. Plenty of places to buy the AC units but having them fitted seems to be more difficult to identify decent engineers and fair prices. Anyone know of anyone on here who is an AC engineer or can recommend someone from their own experience?

Fixture Information: Turkey (A) ?

From Italian journalist Carlo Alvino:

Napoli's program in Antalya in Turkey during the stop of the championship is almost defined. Three friendlies will likely be played, two with Premier teams, Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton, the other with Antalyaspor.

Discussion: Trial for young Mexican keeper prospect

Mexican goalkeeper Fernando Delgado is set to join Crystal Palace on trial next month as he looks to earn a contract in England.

That’s according to Jovenes Futbolistas MX, who have an exclusive on the 16-year-old goalkeeper’s impending switch to England.

They say the goalkeeper, who currently plays for Real Monarchs, the reserve team for MLS side Real Salt Lake playing in the third division of American soccer, will be ‘testing himself’ with Crystal Palace from November 3rd to the 19th.

The Eagles are seemingly keen to take a look at the youngster, who has been earning attention after making his debut for Real Monarchs aged just 15 years old in the USL Championship last year.

Dealing with Estate Agents.

I would like some help/advice from fellow BBS posters.
I have a lock up garage for sale in South Croydon.
Dealing with Estate Agents is a new experience for me.
I spoke to Foxtons in Croydon the other morning, and explained my situation.
The salesman told me, he would put it on the market for £36000 - £40000, which surprised me for a lock up garage.
He said they have a minimum fee of £4500+V.A.T., making a total of £5400 for the sale.
Does this seem reasonable, or is it a bit excessive?
Do I need a solicitor involved, or is this included in their fees.
Like I said before, this is all new to me, so any help or advice will be gratefully appreciated.
Regards.
Lofty.

Albums That Made You Give Up

mardi 25 octobre 2022

Simple format: name some albums that made you lose faith in a particular band/artist and end a previously committed and fruitful fan's relationship.

1. U2 - Achtung Baby. I rather enjoyed the aural landscapes and political posturing of their early stuff - I didn't wanna go 'pop' even if they did.

2. Coldplay - Viva La Vida. Over-hyped and utterly dull. Has about half a single on it rather than their usual four or five.

3. Paul Weller - 22 Dreams. Finally had enough of his Gardeners World compost-sniffing phase (which he's still in) Please don't write another song about the moon.

Academy Tours

Apologies this falls slightly between a few forums.

I've booked on to an academy tour on 11th November at 4pm. I have the allotted two tickets for myself and my daughter (aged 7). However, my 5 year old son desperately wants to come too. I asked a friend if I could use one of his but he accidentally booked on the 2pm tour. I messaged the box office to see if we could swap it but they are saying this is not possible. It's a long shot but I don't suppose anyone has an unused ticket for the 4pm or would like to swap to 2pm?

Alternatively, if anyone goes on the tour if there is any sense that they could be lenient with one extra 5 year old? The kids are at a fragile age Chelsea/Arsenal etc wise so I'm keen to cement the Palace indoctrination.

New Main stand - will you move to it? (Poll)

Let's make some major assumptions for a minute and say the stand is build (first and foremost) and that prices will somewhat comparable to what they are now....although I suspect they will be increased because of the facilities.

Let's gauge a rough opinion on how popular it will be.

Would you consider moving into it from your existing season ticket placing/preferred choice when buying an individual ticket?

If the answer is yes, what stand will you be moving from and why?

RIP CPFC LEGEND Clive waters( aka SIDE’O)

It’s with great sadness that I post this , Clive passed away peacefully last night(sat) in the Pru after a long illness. Would be amazing if you could show your respect/ appreciation on the 70th min( his age) Saturday v the saints. Your tributes & memories here please as I’ll be sending this thread on to Pam Clive’s sister who gave me permission to pass on this awful news.

Many thanks

How many points before the World Cup ?

From the 3 league games we have before the World Cup
Those being Southampton , West Ham and forest I’m thinking no more than 3 points unfortunately I hope I’m wrong of course but I think it’s realistic

Europa League .... the only way we might have kept Wilf?

Is it strategy to just maintain the status quo, or is there a flaw in our dealings? Where does the fault lay? Harris, Blitzer, Textor, Parish, Freedman?

Vieira must be wondering what next…

Ian Wright tells us if we had got the European place given wrongly to Liverpool he would have stayed at the Palace, well who knows for how long or if even true.

But it now feels like the club has blown any chance of European football that might have maybe given Wilf reason to stay with us due to our poor midfield... typical Palace and the waste of our best ever player!

Junior Training Day

Not sure this is really Travel or Tickets but the other Membership threads are in here so....

My lad is on a Junior Training Day at Palace this coming Tuesday - the opportunity to do so is a Membership benefit.

I have an e-mail from the club confirming the 'purchase' but no other details apart from the fact that it's 'at the Crystal Palace Academy from 1:30pm to 5:30pm'

Has anyone else done this? Do we simply rock up to the Academy in Copers Cope Road just before 1:30?

Cheers in advance

Suggested Team and Formation For: Southampton (H) 29/10/22

samedi 22 octobre 2022

Guaita
Ward - Andersen - Guehi - Mitchell
Doucoure
Schlupp - Eze
Olise - Edouard - Zaha

Johnstone, Tomkins, Balmer, Riedewald, Milivojevic, Hughes, Ayew, Ebiowei, Mateta

Having either Richards or Clyne back would be nice, need more options at the back, especially at full back.

Every midfield permutation that I think of, I’m just thinking ‘meh’, so I’ve gone with what I think is the best of a bad bunch, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Eze dropped but he can produce magic at any moment, just needs to not be so lacklustre and do his thing with a bit of purpose!

Think we can go for the 4-3-3 with Doucoure back, but if we ever have to play without him again, we need to shore up with 2 midfield pivots in there.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Everton (away)

I'm not going to bother with ratings. It's one of those games. We didn't do enough with our possession, we only won the ball high up a couple of times, and our away form is very worrying. Thought a lot of players were poor and we missed Doucoure. It is a bump back down to earth. Only player who I felt showed a little bit of extra sharpness compared to recent games was Mitchell, I liked the way he pressed up into midfield. Subs were perhaps a bit early as I thought we looked ok without creating, but we were done on the counter for 2-0 and then it's very hard to come back against a physical, athletic Everton side who were at home. Onana is a proper player, and they now have decent centre halves and solidity in centre mid. Everton are very underrated if DCL stays fit. We move on.

Pot 2: Canada, Netherlands, Brazil, Japan, Norway, Italy, China, South Korea.
Pot 3: Denmark, Switzerland, Republic of Ireland, Colombia, Argentina, Vietnam, Costa Rica, Jamaica.

17-year-old Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Gavin Beavers will be traveling to England next month to train with Crystal Palace as part of an offseason program to get youngsters experience with European clubs in the Blitzer network.

Beavers was in the RSL senior squad for all of last season (MLS Season just ended in the U.S.) but got 0 senior team minutes. Not sure how this can be more than a distraction for CPFC. It's very likely he'll shift back to third in the GK rotation for next RSL season.

Midfield dilemma: Schlupp or Ayew?

After that Wolves performance I think after the majority of the team pretty much picks itself. I think the first 10 players are nailed on:

————————-—Guaita—————————-
Ward———Andersen——-Guehi———Mitchell
—————————-Doucoure————————
——————-X————————-—-Eze————
Olise———Edouard———-Zaha—————-

There’s just one spot available, that will probably go to McArthur once he is fit, or if we decide to sign a midfielder, possibly in Jan ;). Until then (for the rest of the season at least) who do you think should take that final slot?

Interested to know what the collective wisdom of the BBS thinks.

Should Zaha play as the central striker?

Having slept on it, we were poor against Leicester, but at least Vieira understands the problems - lack of aggression and lack of pace in behind. So I hope he changes it. I thought it was telling that Edouard was hooked yet again despite being ok, and Mateta was the last sub. It shows he is not happy with his strikers. They simply don't offer enough threat behind the back 4, especially as we are playing with some of the slowest wide forwards in the league. I also thought the MOTD analysis was spot on. The second MOTD analysis clip showed Zaha not tracking Castagne but he does normally and quite frankly I'd rather he wasn't wide and deep. I'd much prefer our talisman pressed from the front and was a goal threat rather than defending in his own half.

So, what's the solution? I think it is to play Zaha as the centre forward. In fact, I am absolutely certain that it is the right thing to do from the start in every game. We can always bring on the likes of Edouard and Mateta, who are useful squad players. But Zaha is the talisman and can lead from the front, and can start the press. It would get us on the front foot 20 yards higher up the pitch, and would also give us a threat on the counter which we don't otherwise have. That then leaves a vacancy on the left wing. The first MOTD example showed Schlupp wandering and leaving the midfield exposed. I wouldn't mind Eze wandering because he has the ability to hurt teams and score goals. Jeff simply shouldn't be in the midfield, he doesn't have the footballing intelligence or the quality. Could he do a job as the left winger? He has some useful pace that I feel we need in the front 3, and it's an easier job knowing you need to track your man and help the full back when defending. Also, I'm not against Edouard being given a go there, as he'd be an out ball for Andersen's diagonals and he does work hard, and he can score from out wide. Not against Ebiowei being given a chance wide left either, or even Olise or Ayew but they might be needed elsewhere. But whoever plays there I feel we must give Zaha a chance as the central striker. Would be interested to know where other people are at with this idea now.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Wolves (H) 18/10/22

We’re playing again on Tuesday so a quick turnaround. Need to pick it up, because what we just saw was awful, against the worst side we’ll play against this season.

Mitchell is clearly struggling with his fitness, I’d bring Olise in for him and push Schlupp to left back who I thought was poor at centre mid throughout the whole game.

I’d go:

Guiata
Ward - Andersen - Guehi - Schlupp
Doucoure
Ayew - Eze
Olise - Edouard - Zaha

Johnstone, Tomkins, Mitchell, Riedewald, Milivojevic, Hughes, Ebiowei, Gordon, Mateta

Player Ratings And Reviews: Leicester (away)

Guaita 6 MOM - solid handling and punches

Mitchell 5 - picked up a knock? Gives the ball away too much
Guehi 6 - rock solid
Andersen 6 - classy
Ward 6 - fine

Doucoure 6 - can play, looks to drive forward
Eze 5 - quiet unfortunately
Schlupp 5 - couple of good runs, ok for 60 mins

Zaha 4 - rightly subbed, all he does is pass back. He's supposed to be the winger!
Edouard 6 - had one good shot, won a few headers, bits and pieces
Ayew 5 - played three different positions, puts a shift in but not a winger

Subs:
Milivojevic 3 - way off the pace, it's scary
Riedewald 6 - can pass
Olise - tried to run but shackled
Mateta - can't hold it up

We defended ok, that's as far as the positives go. Starting XI was poor, subs were awful. What's our away record like under Vieira? It shows how much work there is to do. There's very little pace in the side, we don't make any runs in behind, movement is poor, and have wingers who look to pass backwards. For all our attacking players we don't look like scoring unless we are at home. The tempo is far too slow, there's not enough aggression. It's a point, but is that enough? Leicester were there for the taking imho.

House Purchase query

Can someone who is more clued up assist, if able

We are due to Complete on our house sale, next Friday (we exchanged on both properties a month ago).

However as we are moving to a new build, which will not be ready until mid January, at the earliest, so will be staying with our son until then

In this case we have no mortgage and our purchase is being bought entirely with cash from our house sale

Normally any monies would be held by the conveyancer/solicitor until both transactions are complete, I believe, but surely they don't hold onto nearly 600k until our sale is ready to complete?

What did Henderson say to Gabriel?

Lots of speculation at the moment.

My personal view is I think he said something to Thomas Partey, not anything racist but another word starting with R. When Gabriel tells Xhaka what was said Xhakas demeanour changed 100% from chill to tense, his head spun around and directly looked at Henderson.

Henderson is usually a bigmouth who wants to go on with it but he backed down and hid because whatever he said he knew was ott. He definitely said something out of line but people shouldn’t instantly assume it’s based on race.

3 Weeks in Northern Thailand/Cambodia/Vietnam

lundi 10 octobre 2022

Hopefully heading to the above countries over Xmas/New Year for 3 weeks with my girlfriend.

Our initial plan is to fly in to Bangkok on 23rd/24th December and out of Hanoi on 14th January.

Looking for some tips, recommendations, things to swerve in these places please. Whether thats ways to travel, things to see, activities to do, hotels/restaurants that would be appreciated.

Other the main bits such as stop offs in Seim Reap, Phnom Penh, Ho Chi Minh, Hoi An, Hanoi overnighter in Halong Bay we're kinda open to suggestions.

Im 37 and my GF is 36 so the occasional night out is welcome, but certainly not our main priority over the 3 weeks.

Thinking to split it as follows:-
Thailand - 4/5 nights
Cambodia 6 nights
Vietnam - the remainder

Rail Strikes - what is your view?

dimanche 9 octobre 2022

I wonder what people view is on the rail strikes?

I feel that the union has misjudged public opinion, even though the public are getting on with it they dont support the cause. Have they overplayed their hand ina time of austerity? Have they over overvalued their importance as the need to travel demises with people working from home rather than travelling to work? What is the end result, does the government (or who ever they are fighting) cave, or do we put up with it till they just get on with it?

My thoughts are the public are not supportive of this, in times past we would have just to get on with our lives, but now feels abit rich to be causing a problem. Happy to hear either way. I feel it is just a symptom of our economic problems with inflation, interest rates and everything else, the 2020 like the 1970’s.

Hopefully the Leeds victory gives us momentum to push on. There’s not many points between all the teams mid table so a win could see us shoot up the table. There is also a pile of fanzines, year books, friendly programmes and away programmes to go with this.

I have provided a table below of the years from 1991/92 to 2014/15.

All good condition.

If in a local area to me, I live in Worcester Park, I will deliver. Otherwise, we might have to work out a meeting point.

I won't deliver individual years but will bring to Selhurst depending on how many years.

Women's World Cup 2023 - Aus & NZ

vendredi 7 octobre 2022

Couldn't see a thread on this, apologies of there is one.

There's a pre-sale on at the moment through Visa, managed to get a Stadium Super Pass ticket for Sydney (Australia Stadium), which is basically a ticket to 4 games: Round of 16, QF, SF and the World Cup Final itself.

Now just have to hope that it's England that we get to see in some or all of those games, but either way, not bad for A$240 for the 4 games I think!

California - advice needed please

Turning to our BBS friends based in California for some travel advice please. I'm heading over there in March for a couple of concerts, first in Sacramento, then in San Jose two days later.

I fly into San Francisco, so what's the best way to get from there to Sacramento? I arrive in SF at 9am. I realise I could fly from SF to Sacramento, but that involves at least a 4 hour changeover. Should I alternatively get the bus or a train (I don't want to hire a car)?

On the day after the concert in Sacramento, I need to get to San Jose. What's the best way to do that - bus, train or fly? Looks like Amtrak train takes just over 3 hours - is it reliable (as far as trains are ever reliable)?

On the day after the concert in San Jose, I need to get back to SF for the flight back to Sydney. So same question, what's the best way to do that, bus or train (realise it would be too short to make a flight worthwhile)?

I don't need to spend time in SF - been there before etc. I would rather have a bit of time in Sacramento where I haven't been before. I'll have no time really in San Jose, as need to leave t

I've obviously googled all this, but would be interested to hear tips from local knowledge. Thanks in advance!

Crystal Ball: Leeds at home

A team that to a certain generation will always be "Dirty Leeds." Historically, we've had some famous wins and painful defeats; where will this game fall on the spectrum? Score, scorers and (possibly pointless) attendance please.

Podcast Recommendation Thread

There are movie and TV show recommendation threads but I spend far more time listening to podcasts and there’s some crackers out there.

Some of my favourites:
NFL- Around the NFL
History - The Rest is History
Football - Guardian Football Weekly
Politics - For the Many
Aviation - Av Talk
Misc - Smith and Sniff

Anybody have any good recommendations to add the the pot?

Junior Training Day

Just got an email through from the club offering a free training day for children (gold members or season ticket+) at the academy on Tuesday October 25th. I've signed my 6 year old son up as he football mad. Seems a great freebie. 5 hours of football fun at the new facilities at the academy. I'm not sure if parents are allowed to hang around and watch, hopefully that will be the case as I would love to see the facilities first hand.

The Inevitable Curse of the Ex-Player

So we could all see it coming a mile off. Gallagher's late winner was the most predictable outcome ever.

But thinking about it. How many other times have ex-players done us over like that? Ian Wright is the obvious answer but I'm struggling to come up with many others off the top of my head.

I vaguely recall a late Geoff Thomas winner for Wolves and Ruben-Cheek in the Semi-Final, but who else. There must be loads given that the fear of it happening is so strong.

Suggestion: Tyronne Efe Ebuehi (Nigerian right-back)

No one's mentioned him. I think he would be perfect for Palace.

He's 25, he plays for the Nigerian national team (so perhaps Wilf could put in a good word), and we could probably get him for 2 million or something silly.

Basically, he has been playing for Empoli in the Serie A since the start of the season. I say "playing", he came as a free transfer from Benfica B this summer, and has only played once, as a substitute, for the last 25 minutes against Lecce. All I can say is that during those 25 minutes, Empoli didn't let any more goals in (the final score was 1-1). So he clearly did his job and prevented Lecce from winning in those final 25 mins.

Every other game he's been on the bench or not even in the squad. He's clearly surplus to requirements. But he's good. Clearly new coach Paolo Zenetti hasn't seen enough of him.

Clyne's injury and age, and Ward's age, means that we are vulnerable at right-back plus we need to build for the future. He'd probably have a great connection with Eze, as they both come from Nigerian parents, were not born in Nigeria and in fact have never lived there (Ebuehi was born in the Netherlands) and are of similar age. So Ebuehi would feel right at home.

The main reason for getting him I think is that since Empoli paid nothing for him and he isn't in their current plans, they would probably be okay with a loan deal this winter with an option to buy clause. It's win-win for them.

Transfermarkt values him at €1,400,000 (To view the link you have to Register or Login) which is nothing in this day and age. Empoli would probably sell him now for 2 mill! But I can see them being especially okay with a loan deal. We should get in there while he's under the radar!

He even sounds like a Palace player, doesn't he! Tyronne Efe Ebuehi. :-) Plus, the Nigerians are the Super Eagles, so he might just make our defence Super. :D

He has big match experience, playing at the World Cup

He seems a lovely chap, really bright and fluent English:

But what about his skills? Well, here's a 4-year old compilation of some of his great defences (and numerous attacks) from his time in the Dutch Eredivisie when he was just 20.

I think we can certainly say he could be a great asset, and we need a decent RB to take over from Clyne and Ward and who can fill that AWB void.

Crystal Palace Relegation Avoidance Thread

dimanche 2 octobre 2022

It seems you could well be amongst those fighting it out down the bottom of the table this season. Currently in 17th position and flirting with the bottom 3. I'm not saying you will go down but it will be interesting how your next 7-8 games go.

Do you think Palace have what it takes to keep their head above water and remain in the league this season? Despite lack of investment, a very shallow squad and a below par stadium that isn't really up to Premier League standard.

Your favourite ‘Typical Palace’ examples

After Connor Gallagher’s first goal for Chelsea inevitably coming in a last minute winner against us; just thought it would be good to document our favourite ‘typical Palace’ moments.

I’ll start…

1983/84 season. Division 2. Sheffield Wednesday get to the end of November unbeaten in the league in a 15 game run. Was creating big national interest in the football world as everyone wondered who would be the first team to topple Howard Wilkinson’s Wednesday.

Game 16 for the runaway leaders was at Selhurst against Palace, and have to say, despite being relegation candidates, most of us had an inkling we could pull it off, and so it proved. A David Giles diving header securing a famous win and one of the few good memories under Mullery’s stewardship.

The following Saturday, we played rock bottom Swansea who had only managed one win in their first 16 games. Final score: Swansea 1 Palace 0.

TYPICAL PALACE!!!

Wolves sack Bruno Lage

Lage has been finished as wolves manager , they’ll just get that new manager bounce in time to play us in a few weeks….To view the link you have to Register or Login

Suggested Team and Formation For: Leeds (h) 09/10/22

Guaita
Ward - Andersen - Guehi - Mitchell
Doucoure
Olise - Eze
Ayew - Edouard - Zaha

Johnstone, Tomkins, Richards, Riedewald, Milivojevic, Hughes, Schlupp, Ebiowei, Mateta

Assuming Richards and Andersen are back. If not then I’d have Tomkins to go into the starting team, and then Gordon and Adaramola on the bench.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Chelsea (home)

Thought the midfield of Doucoure, Eze and Olise was fine, as predicted. Issues elsewhere. People’s thoughts?

Guaita 6 little to do

Mitchell 6 good to see him play so many mins.
Guehi 7 well done playing without Andersen.
Ward 7 solid
Clyne 5 too short for goal

Doucoure 6 fine
Eze 7 class on the ball
Olise 7 bright

Zaha 4 doesn’t show out there anymore unless outrageous.
Edouard 6 super finish. What else?
Ayew 6 worked hard.
