Tom Barnett R.I.P.

jeudi 17 mars 2022

The club was informed yesterday that sadly former player Tom Barnett passed away on Tuesday 15th March aged 85.

Tom joined Palace from Chatham towards the end of 1958 and made his debut in March 1959.

Tom mainly played as a second bow to our forwards over three seasons,
totalling 15 appearances and two goals but featuring regularly with the Reserves. Tom played in the final seven games of our promotion season 1960-61 and scored the winning goal at home to Aldershot in April 1961 that secured our place to move up to Division Three.

At the end of that campaign he left Palace for Margate and then to Romford where he became a legend. Later he managed non-league clubs before becoming landlord at a pub in Sawbridgeworth.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.
