Material for Volume 6 of the Origin of Crystal Palace FC

lundi 7 décembre 2020

I’m making my annual appeal for material for next year’s volume of the club history.

Volume 6 will cover the period from 1915, with the club based at Herne Hill, through WW1, to Palace’s move to the Nest in 1918.

If you have anything relating to the club which is of interest in this period, please reply to this thread or PM me and I should be delighted to hear from you.

For context, the previous five volumes, available on Ebay, are:

Volume 1. 1861 to 1895. The formation of the amateur Crystal Palace FC by the Crystal Palace Company in 1861. The enormous contribution of the amateur Crystal Palace FC in the creation of Association Football. The Crystal Palace Company’s decision to shut down football as one of the attractions in the Park in 1875.

Volume 2. 1895 to 1909. The re-start of Crystal Palace FC in 1895 to accompany the building of the FA Cup Final Arena. The Crystal Palace Company’s ten-year battle with the FA to allow a professional club in the Cup-final stadium, and the FA’s agreement in 1905. The creation of the professional Crystal Palace FC.

Volume 3. 1909 to 1912. The court-ordered liquidation of the Crystal Palace Company, its rescue by the Earl of Plymouth, and the effect of this change of ownership of Crystal Palace FC. The attempted boardroom-coup in the football club. The growth of Croydon Common as Palace’s local professional rivals.

Volume 4. 1912 to 1914. The initiative for a public buy-out of Crystal Palace Park falters, and Palace’s home ground is in peril. Palace mature to become a leading club in the Southern League and Champions of London.

Volume 5. 1914 to 1915. Palace are evicted from Crystal Palace Park by the Admiralty. The club’s move to the Herne Hill ground. Details of the fate of every Palace player in the First World War.

The Royal Mail is moving VERY slowly at the moment so I recommend acting immediately for any Christmas orders.
