There was so much to like about Palace's display today. Unlike Leeds and WBA where the gods were smiling, we played a big, physical, in form, organised team and went toe to toe with them.
A lot of people have mentioned balance on this thread because unusually for us we seemed to have plenty of options going forward and different attacking threats whilst being able to defend diligently and in numbers.
The attack firstly looked good because in Benteke, Wilf, Eze and Schlupp, we have a mixture of pace, trickery and an aerial threat and even a bit of poaching ability for our goal.
Schlupp might not be a right winger but he's an all rounder and as well as putting in a shift in midfield, he offers pace and he scores goals. he could have had another today as well.
We looked like we had options and were capable of asking different questions.
Luka had a great game and with McArthur we were solid enough in the middle. Again having Schluppy instead of Andros makes our midfield that bit better at defending and that's crucial. Schluppy can also defend like a full back if we need him too. Having Eze and Andros on the flanks would leave the midfield defensively light imho, there is a crucial difference.
The defence is probably the one area where questions are asked seeing Tomkins is surely a better centre back than Cheik and frankly i prefer Joel Ward to Clyne. I like JW because he can head the ball and supports his centre backs in lots of unseen ways. We are short of clean sheets at the moment and but for a heroic display by Vicente, we could have leaked a few more today. Having said that its the balance of the side we are talking about here and the defensive parts are largely interchangeable, we've lots of options and lot's of cover.
I think we all saw today that we had a very good team and we had a very good bench as well.
The display was probably as good as we have played in quite a while and we looked like we could be a match for anyone.
It was great to have a few fans there as well, can't wait for a full Selhurst again.
