Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after.

We've got reports that Palace along with West Ham are coming down under in July. To Brisbane and Townsville specifically.

Car Insurance Question

My stepson has just passed his test and has use of his brother's car for a few months.

The insurance quote is £1000 higher if we say that he's not the owner / registered keeper compared to clicking that he is.

Is there anyway around this, other than transferring ownership of the car via the DVLA?

I assume lying isn't really an option here? :moo:

Cheltenham 2020!!!

Hi All,

I think we’ve done this type of thread for the last few years - so I thought we could do all tips/punts/comments etc on the Festival on a dedicated thread of its own?

So .... NAP of each day, Nap of festival and everyone’s thoughts on each race??

I love Envoi Allen but I’m not sure which of the entries he’ll show up in?!? If it’s not the Supreme then surely that’s Sishkin’s to win?!?

Best prices Bookmaker I highly recommend them!

I've recently opened up an account with these guys Telephone Betting, not only is there a bet £10 & get a free £30 bet sign up offer. They also match the best prices available prices on any race from the Odds checker website. So their prices cannot be beaten & they are "Best Price Guaranteed!

"They also do a daily race offer where they boost the price by 1 Point over the highest price on Oddschecker for £10 stakes! on one or 2 races. You can place bets by Whatsapp or by telephone.

Just thought I'd shout them on here to fellow Palace punters as a head up if anyone's looking for good value on Horse Prices with Cheltenham coming up!

Life Insurance For High Risk People

I am currently trying to get some life insurance however I am finding it slightly difficult due to my previous health issues.

Around three years ago I suffered a TIA due to a hole in the heart, I have since had a heart operation to rectify the hole 1 year ago, however I am still on blood thinning tablets and still currently under the hospital for check ups. I am not sure when I will be signed off.

I also have a back issue, Scheuermann's disease which I was diagnosed with when I was younger!

I was just wondering if any BBS'ers have high risk life insurance or know of companies which would insure high risk patients like myself? I am generally fit and healthy and live a normal life.

I have tried L&G and they have basically told me to wait until I am signed off from appointments before they will underwrite. This makes me uneasy as I have a mortgage and if I was to 'pop my clogs' for any reason, my wife wouldn't have the mortgage etc paid. We do not currently have children so that is one less burden.

I am awaiting a call from AIG insurance later in the hope that they may offer something, so fingers crossed.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Brighton (a)

lundi 24 février 2020

Huge game for both clubs, if we can manage a much due win there that would send us towards safety and them further into the shit. When you look at their upcoming fixtures this game is a must win for them, they'll probably take the game to us in the same way they did at Selhurst. Fortunately now though we don't have untold injuries, we've got good options especially to hit them on the counter.

Ward----Dann----Cahill-------PVA

-------------Kouyate---------------

Unfair to change things based on Saturday, and it's nice that we've got players like Meyer, Townsend and Tosun who can come on and turn a game.

On the head son ! Children banned from heading the ball

A heading ban in football training for children up to the end of primary school has been introduced with immediate effect in England, Northern Ireland and Scotland

The changes stated there would be no heading at all in the 'foundation phase' - primary school children - and a graduated approach to heading in training in Under-12s to Under-16s football.

Discussion: The summer 2021 cliff edge

Looking at the squad, we now have 15 players whose contracts expire before July 2021, 12 of which will be over 30 by the end of their current contract.

They're listed below, with their DOB, their age at the time of contract expiry and a suggestion of what kind of decision we might make on them.

This summer (2020):

Henderson (Jan 87) 33 - 1 year extension
Dann (Feb 87) 33 - let go

Next summer (2021):

Hennessey (Jan 87) 34 - 2 year extension
Guaita (Jan 87) 34 - 2 year extension
Ward (Oct 89) 31 - let go
Van Aanholt (Aug 90) 31 - sell summer 2020 c£8m
Sakho (Feb 90) 31 - sell summer 2020 c£10m
Cahill (Dec 85) 35 - let go
Kelly (Apr 90) 31 - 2 year extension
Meyer (Sep 95) 25 - sell summer 2020/3 year extension
McArthur (Oct 87) 33 - 1/2 year extension
Townsend (Jul 91) 30 - 2 year extension
Schlupp (Dec 92) 28 - 2/3 year extension
Benteke (Dec 90) 30 - sell summer 2020 c£10m
Wickham (Mar 93) 28 - make decision after loan spell

To me it's pretty alarming to think of the amount of work it'll take to overhaul this squad in the space of 2 years, let alone the amount of money. The most I could see us making from the players we might want to sell (excluding Meyer) is about £20m, and it'll take a lot more to replace all of them.

If everything happened as above, we'd have to buy the following players in the next 3 windows in addition to filling the gaps we already have and replacing any additional players we sell:

Right back
Left back
Cover for full-backs
Centre backs x2
Central Midfielder
Striker

We'd still have a lot of players over 30 even if we did all this, but if we don't have a pretty active window this summer, it'll either be a desperately frantic one next year or proper Dad's Army territory come the 2021/22 season.

Malcolm Pyke RIP

Yesterday I was advised that former player Malcolm Pyke passed away on February 13th aged 81.

Malcolm had joined from West Ham in the summer of 1959 and was with Palace for just one season.

Usually found at wing-half Malcolm made two first team appearances towards the end of the 1959-60 season but had been a regular with the Reserves with 32 appearances. In the summer of 1960 he was released and joined Dartford.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.

Car Share V Car Subscriptions.

Want to downsize to one vehicle, which is a camper van and get rid of the family sedan as its rarely used. Basically it's about tightening our belts in the early stages of retirement. We have a few Car Share companies operating in our area, and one for pick up about 150 meters from where we live. Plus many more within a kilometer of our gaff.

Just wondering if anyone else has tried car sharing companies, how they went and whether it really is a viable say twice weekly option for people. Does it really work out a lot cheaper for you and is it easy access in your situation?

On the other side of the coin I believe Car Subscriptions are about to come to the fore. Just wondering if anyone is familiar with this system and whether any company anywhere is offering a low use package.

Quote:

While Campana can call upon set piece duties to boost his tally, but nevertheless 38 of his 54 key passes in total this season have come from open play. That equates to over 70 per cent, which is a significant increase from 52.5% last season (31/59) and points towards a player who is playing with greater freedom and confidence.
Interview mentions us briefly too.

Quote:

The playmaker is maturing with each season, as shown by a vastly improved disciplinary record, and had to do so at an early age when a move to Crystal Palace materialised when he was just a teenager. It's a move that didn't pan out the way either the player or club would have liked but Campana insists he has no regrets.

"When you sign such a long contract (penning a 4-year-deal with Palace in 2013) you do so with the intention of fulfilling it and achieving great things. When things don't happen it's clear that it hurts and that you reflect, but there is no use looking back now."

Palace Squad Boost For The Remaining Games

It would appear that Palace may be able to field a much stronger team for our remaining games as players are back in contention to play again after recovering from injury.

In this respect the Winter Break could not have come at a better time for us and our injury crisis which has forced us to field a far weaker team for our last 10 games and results have suffered as a result of this

It would appear from the Physio Room website update that only 3 players are definitely missing the Newcastle game.

Onesizefitzhall

mercredi 19 février 2020

Been thinking for a while that we need a young coach alongside Roy.

My preference would be someone who gets our club. After recents defeats was thinking about how we needed to show bouncebackability and it led me to a man very much at the centre of that era....

Fitz Hall - would bring that spirit we need at minute and could be groomed into potential manager.

Imagine the scenes as he walked out on Saturday ,the Holmsdale would rise in unison chanting Onesiizefitzhall Onesizefitzhall....the believe would generate around the stadium to the boys.

Get this done!

Newcastle - Spare ticket anyone in Holmesdale?

Does anyone have a spare ticket for the newcastle game in the Holmesdale they want to sell?
We have some friends staying the weekend, and one of them wants to come with me instead of staying with the girls!

Thanks in advance :-)

Croydon Nightwatch Donation Drive

The following is a message from the Holmesdale Fanatics page:

As no one in London has failed to notice homelessness and people sleeping on the streets has risen exponentially in recent years. We talk about the idea of “one club, one community” and the important role a football club has to play in creating a better situation for those living within its areas, that is something that should include everyone in the manor, especially those most in need.

Croydon Nightwatch has been at the forefront of helping the community for over 40 years in this department and it’s now time for us to all play out part as well.

We therefore are asking for donations of warm clothing, jackets, or cash to be dropped to the Holmesdale pub on Saturday between 12-2 which will be distributed the following week to those in need on the streets of Croydon. Items can also be brought to the Holmesdale merch stand behind Block E between 2-3pm before kickoff.

Seeking Advice on Stepchildren

Hi all

I wondered if I could seek any sort of advice from the BBS in relation to a family matter I’m currently going though.

Basically, I have 2 stepchildren (boys aged 9 & 11) and I’ve been with their mother for over 4 years and we’re engaged. My relationship with the boys has been really good up until recently when their father passed away unexpectedly over Christmas. As you can imagine, they have gone through a whole host of emotions and the period since then has been traumatic and stressful for them.

Where I need advice is at this point. The relationship I have with the boys is becoming very different. They are becoming distant to me, they disagree with most things I say and things become quite horrible and nasty (physically and verbally) as they deal with their emotions. I’m not for one minute expecting anything any different from young children when they are dealing with grief and bereavement, especially when it’s one of their parents, but I’m stuck as to what things I should do or say to try and support them.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Fanzone Query

Sorry to ask guys but I have a friend coming to the game on Saturday who wants to watch the Spurs vs Chelsea game beforehand too. Do we show it in the fanzone outside the main stand and can you get in without a ticket?

"What we have here, is a lack of communication"

The communication from the club to it's fan's is getting worse and worse.

For example, the Sorloth situation. Many media reports saying that the club has a two year loan with a fixed price option for the Turkish club to buy at the end of it. Further reports of interest from Brighton , Newcastle and Monaco has led to talk about him being flipped at the end of the deal for a very tidy profit for the Turkish club.At the same time Roy has been saying he looks forward to his return at the end of the loan. Why doesn't the club explain to its fans the actual situation?

Injuries. When Townsend was injured pre-Xmas it was described by Roy as a long -term injury. No communication from the club as to what it was and the only notice we get of his return is when he suddenly appears in the training ground pictures. It's the same with Sakho. When is he supposed to return?

Very little communication during and after the transfer windows.

Away ticket allocation . This has been going on for years. Most other clubs explain the allocation taken for each away game . Why don't we ever publish this, but just keep the fans guessing whether more tickets will become available , particularly for away matches that sell out 3/4 weeks in advance?

Lack of communication leads to a feeling that the fans aren't important. Well if that the case, the club and it's owners shouldn't be surprised if rumblings of discontent, particularly if the bad run continues, get worse and worse.

New immigration system

Previously British people were restricted to having full rights and being able to live, work, study and have access to medical care in only 28 countries without let or hindrance.

Next week, my sources have briefed me that that number of 28 countries is going to increase to one. Now you might say one is actually smaller than 28 but one is not just one it's Britain and Britain is greater than Europe so rejoice. We have won with one.

Oh and no messing around with EU negotiators on this, we are going to insist and if they don't agree we will impose it unilaterally. The gas oven is ready as Boris said, we don't even have to light it, just turn on and stick our heads right in until we get the result we want.

6 points off a potential European place, is this our best chance yet?

Yeah I know we are playing crap at the moment, but with a Europa League place potentially waiting for us in 8th place, if we could get a half decent finish, could this be our one opportunity to fulfil a dream?

Oh the 8th place spot?

Top 4 finish usually get Champions League, League Cup winners, FA Cup and 5th placed club usually gets Europa League.

So, Man City finish in top 4 but remain banned, so 5th place gets champions league spot. Man city win League cup take 6th spot, FA Cup winners come from 1st 5 finishers so that frees up another Europa league spot , 7th, and Europa league (normal 5th place) becomes 8th!

6 points from Newcastle and Brighton could give us momentum, with plenty of points available. Wouldn't it be ironic that in a season of inconsistent/consistently poor home performance we could still achieve this utopia!

Crystal Palace Park Restoration

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Plans to restore the amazing subway underneath part of the Crystal Palace has been given a boost by the local council.

The subway was built to link the Crystal Palace exhibition centre with the since demolished High Level railway station, but only for 1st class passengers. Everyone else traipsed around the hill to get to the Palace.

Although the Palace burned down, and lacking customers, the railway closed down, the subway clung on, being too marvelous to fill in, and of some use, for WW2 shelters, and later for filming.

Today the subway remains marvelous, but the staircase leading to it and the formerly grand foyer with it’s glass roof is a ruin. Occasionally opened to the public, there’s been a long term ambition to restore it to the point that it can be opened as a permanent visitor attraction.

Likely to be a community building in the foyer area, with the subway to the rear to visit.

The full restoration is expected to cost around £3.1 million, and the Mayor of London’s Strategic Investment Pot has already committed £2.3 million towards the works.

At the moment, Bromley Council, which owns the site, expects to receive £500,000 from Historic England and is applying for £296,000 from TfL, as the subway runs under a main road, with £5,000 coming from the Friends of Crystal Palace Subway.

The exact details of the restoration are still being worked out, and issues such as restoration of the glass roof over the main staircases is still being discussed.

The council said that once the restoration is complete the Subway is planned to become a new cultural destination for South London.

The restoration will also allow the council to start looking for a commercial partner for the site, who would fund the cost of visitor facilities at ground level linked through to the Subway.

The subway restoration is part of a wider £40 million investment in revamping the whole of the Crystal Palace, which is partly funded by the sale of new housing on council owned land along the edges of the park.

Liverpool (a) Saturday 21st March 5:30pm Live on Sky Sports (subject to FA Cup)

dimanche 16 février 2020

For those who might not be aware of the situation regarding this match...

It's scheduled for 5:30pm on Saturday 21st March but if Liverpool beat Chelsea in the FA Cup then they'll play their QF that weekend and our game will be moved (probably to 21st/22nd April but that's not confirmed).

The Chelsea v Liverpool FA Cup game is on Tuesday 3rd March so we won't know for certain whether our game will go ahead on 21st March until that night, which is just two-and-a-half weeks before our game.

Another thing we don't yet know is whether the box office will wait for confirmation of the date before they start selling tickets. If they do, then they won't have long to get everything done, but if they don't and the game gets moved then they'll have to deal with return requests etc. Not ideal for them, or indeed for fans wanting to make plans.

Season ticket holders ... managed to watch all the game or not bothered with a few?

With our rather stale team and lack of buys or ground news I didn't bother with the Arse game or the Sheffield match ..... You?
How many games did you say Meh to? :(

Battered by the Arse especially in the second half but I have no doubt they will batter us at Selhurst St Maxim very quick.

Palace are just 'To Nice'!

You can blame Parish, the board, Roy or individual players but as I see it we are just too nice on the pitch week in week out.

We let Wilf be bullied without providing any sort of team protection, we rarely square up to opposition or officials on unjust decisions, instead just take everything on the chin like a school playground bullies victim.

Geoff Thomas was a man's man, in a 90's Palace team full of fighters and characters willing to battle to the death. The only player with this fight now in our entire squad is McArthur.

The last couple of seasons Newcastle were a bunch softies, until Steve Bruce's appointment!
If you want to see players battle to the death, watch Newcastle next week to see how it should be done. They will fight tooth and nail for every decision whereas we will be just plain toothless!

Barnsley v Wednesday-copper beats kid

dimanche 9 février 2020

I just saw the footage of the South Yorkshire copper who took a long run up and cracked a 16 year old kid on the head with his truncheon. Truly could have killed the young man and the force was way, way over the top. Photos of the size of the gash in the kids head are sickening.

Surely he has to get done for that?

Storm Ciara

I am a keen weather watcher and noticed that yesterday the Met Office upgraded warnings for Devon today with the approach of storm Ciara.

They have given two warnings, initially a yellow for wind and then a second amber, also for wind:

"ACTIVE Yellow warning of wind
Updated 6 February at 10:13 GMT
From
00:00 GMT on Sun 9 February
To
23:59 GMT on Sun 9 February

Storm Ciara will bring very strong winds and potentially some disruption to travel throughout Sunday.

- Injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible

- Injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties

- Some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, could happen

- Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible

- Some roads and bridges may close

- Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage

ACTIVE Amber warning of wind
Updated 8 February at 09:43 GMT
From
08:00 GMT on Sun 9 February
To
21:00 GMT on Sun 9 February

Storm Ciara will bring a spell of very strong winds. Disruption to travel is likely during Sunday.

- Flying debris could lead to Injuries or danger to life

- Some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs expected

- Longer journey times and cancellations, as road, rail, air and ferry services affected

- Some roads and bridges closed

- Power cuts with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage

- Injuries and danger to life from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties"

Apart from juggling and moving around the order of text, and a change of one single word from "could" to "expected", there doesn't seem to be any difference in the severity of the potential effects in each case, so why don't they just issue a single warning. There is nothing additional in the amber warning that can influence an individual's or a group's actions over the yellow, apart from being a bit more worried about the shade of colour. In both cases you are probably going to make the same precautionary plans anyway if deemed necessary.

Should Roy go in the summer?

Ive been a fan of him since he took over from the FDB mess, as he brought stability and togetherness to the club on a very limited budget. Weve had some great results as well in that time and on occasion have played some very good football, usually when safe.

However, something doesnt feel right. I accept we are a defensive team through the neccessities of the PL and i also dont think he has been backed properly, but hearing he has been turning players down has made me wonder if it is at least partly his fault.

I know theres another thread about his potential replacement and lets be honest its a big risk, but currently it feels like the whole club is going backwards and needs a change.

Squad threadbare so why dont we change formation

samedi 8 février 2020

Transfer deadline gone , so we have to accept we have a very limited squad . The only option we have to try and get goals out of squad is to change formation ?

4 2 3 1

Guaita
Ward Tomkins Cahill PVA
Milivojevic McArthur ( Kouyate / Riedawald )
Townsend Ayew Zaha
Tosun

Ayew works his socks off and would do a role in midfield while running direct at opposition.

Doubt RH will play this way but I feel it would give us more chance of scoring while not being too open.

Harris and Blitzer get out of our club

Will it get chanted? Should it get chanted?

Premier league or The Football League ?

Which is better ?

Lots of moaning on the forums and lots of moaning from many football fans saying the game is dead or dying because of VAR

Its great to be in the top league but is it the best league ?

I personally think the championship and football leagues are better

No Var tech

Bigger league

Any team from 24 has a realistic chance

No crazy wages

Lower ticket prices

Your opinions ?

The easiest way to avoid relegation

12 games

3 wins 1 draw 8 defeats or 10 draws 2 defeats?

Simple equation yet we still persist with our safety first pack the midfield team selection

Roy the stats do not lie our team formation is not getting the best out of our players it hasn’t ALL SEASON

26 games and we have failed to score in the 45 mins of 21 of them
No goals in the first 15 mins of ANY game
No clean sheets in 10
BOTTOM of current form table
LOWEST number of shots on target if any PL team

We need only 10 points the competition gives you 3 times the point value for scoring more goals than the opposition

SO PLEASE CAN WE PLAY TO OUR ATTACKING STRENGTHS FOR GOODNESS SAKE

‘All star’ premier league squad

Generic but fun idea that came into my head while bored on the coach, and trying to take my mind away from palace. An 18 man premier league squad made up of one player from each club (with two reject clubs who don’t have a player make it, I went for the obvious Brighton and Watford). I picked a relatively young squad which would be good for years to come, but oldies is fine too.

Henderson
James——Van Dijk——Coady——Digne
De Bruyne——Ndidi——Grealish
Rashford——Aubameyang——Son

Fabianski

Big Sam Allardyce

Time for a phone call? Just asking a question as its been on my mind (and a few others) last few weeks

Roy has been a great servant for us last couple of seasons but I think we all agree he’s run out of ideas and it’s now showing in overall player performances.

It’s not personal but there can be no sentiment in football, sometimes a change will freshen things up more than a rest

If we can get Sam we must get him

IF we can get Sam back we have to.

Not sure Roy should go for anyone. Removing Roy without an good and safe option is risky but this is awful. We are playing totally wrong for the players we have. We are perfectly suited to counter attack but he has them playing slowly from the back. It’s like the shit fdb played and Roy came in to fix!

We need direct and crosses. We do neither. We’ve never looked less like scoring. Trying to keep a clean sheet and maybe nick a win isn’t working. We aren’t scoring and clean sheets have stopped. Its basic problems.

As I say, Roy is better than most we can get but if we can get Sam? Has to happen. 5 year deal, huge release clause and funds in the summer. I think he’d come back.

It’s basically his squad!

Everton...poll second half turnaround ?

Do we turn it around ?

Match Updates: Feb 8/9

Winter break :S:

Just four Premier League games this weekend including ours. Today’s other game is...

17:30
Brighton v Watford

A win for Watford puts them level with Brighton.

Sunday

14:00
Sheff U v Bournemouth

16:30
Man C v West Ham

Home win Sunday double would do nicely, seeing that we appear to be doing our level best to join the relegation scrap at the moment.

Crystal Ball: Everton

jeudi 6 février 2020

I've got to get my punt in so here's a thread.

Tough call this one: generally, I go for a positive Palace result (I am the anti-Hihi) and normally that would be nailed on for at least a draw against Everton. However, they're in red hot form at the moment, at least as good as Sodhim and Sheff, so we will probably lose. But good teams who attack are often Roy's bread and butter - we're almost as likely to beat Man City as Norwich City.

Premier League clubs vote for return to longer summer transfer window

Quote:

Premier League clubs have voted to change the summer transfer window to bring it in line with the rest of Europe.

For the past two seasons, the window in England has closed the day before the top-flight campaign began.

In a statement, the Premier League said the deadline has been changed to the "traditional point at the end of August/early September".

The 2020 closing date will be 1 September at 17:00 BST.

The vote was taken at a Premier League shareholders' meeting in London on Thursday.

The transfer window was moved to the start of August in England following complaints from clubs and managers that keeping it open after the start of the season was disruptive.

It was hoped major leagues across Europe would also bring their own windows forward.

However, that did not happen and a number of clubs found themselves in the uncomfortable position of knowing their players were in demand across the continent but unable to bring in replacements for anyone they wanted to sell.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has previously voiced support for bringing the closure of the summer transfer window back in line with the rest of Europe.

"I don't care when it closes, but it must close at the same time," he said in September. "They spoke about finishing it before the season starts. Good idea, but only England did it. That makes no sense. It was a good idea but it didn't work out."

Palace future?

Article in todays' Football 365 on internet about Palace well worth a read and comment.

Why don't people ask for money on the DLR?

I regularly get asked for money when I travel on the orange London Overground trains. It seems to happen more and more on these trains, particularly in the evening.

In contrast, thinking about it last night, I realised I don't think I've ever seen anyone asking for money on the DLR. Why would that be? I think all DLR trains have a supervisor on board who manages safety issues. It could be that knowledge of this deters would-be money seekers. But on most DLR journeys I take, I don't actually see the train supervisors, I think they stay in one carriage. So it wouldn't be hard for anyone to see where the supervisor is and just avoid that carriage.

Discussion: Young prsopects to go after in the summer

We know we need to address the age of the squad and we know where we need to strengthen.
Can we use this thread to suggest and discuss options we'd like to see us look at.

Based on the need for right-back cover, attacking midfield, striker and winger.
Right-back
Kingsley Ehizibue - 24 year old dutch right-back or right-winger. Quick and a good tackler. Reminds me of AWB. Probably not a huge fee from FC Koln. Maybe £6-8m

Attacking midfield
Brahim Diaz - the ex Man City attacking midfielder at Real. Not getting any games. 20 years old, might cost up to £20m but has proven quality not so much of a risk.
Hamed Junior Traorè - getting some good numbers in Serie A this season for Sassuolo may be available for under £20m

Striker
Fedor Chalov - not very left field, have been linked but he's young and prolific but probably pricey at £25-30m
Youssef En-Nesyri - 22 year old at Sevilla. Would cost £15m, big strong Moroccan - think Arsenal were looking at him last year.
Alfredo Morelos - still think we should look seriously at him, yes a livewire on and off the pitch but I think we lack that sort of arrogance.

Not sure if this is the exact forum for this, but just arrived at my girlfriend's and she plays me last nights Hollyoaks (Tues 4th Feb). On it there's a discussion where a black father and son are having a discussion and one of the characters states "and I've got tickets for the Palace game, Eagles!"

Which famous persons passing affected you the most?

Just been watching David Bowie on stage with David Gilmour on YouTube, a performance that I never knew existed. Definitely miss Bowie.

It got me thinking, Seen a lot of famous people die during my 64 years. I think the first one that made an impact was JFK or was it Winston first. Either way that's when I realised famous people were part of the fabric or makeup of our lives.

John Lennon and Elvis were two big ones as well, as was Marc Bolan and Jimi.

However the one that got me personally, was one left of center and I'm still not fully sure why. I still get emotional thinking about it. Something to do with me realising Peter Cooks presence proved I could actually intellectualize, especially if there was a comedic aspect.

So The person that got me going was Peter Cook. Far more so than any of the others mentioned above.

Which famous persons passing affected you the most and any ideas why?

Suggested Team and Formation For: Everton (away)

---------------------Guaita---------------------------
Ward---------Tomkins---------Cahill------------PVA
Townsend----Milivojevic----McCarthy/CK------Ayew
----------------Benteke-------Zaha-----------------

If Andros can play right midfield under Roy, why can't Ayew play left midfield? Both work hard and can carry the ball. Wilf's pace 40m further up the pitch might cause them problems. He should be given a free role.

Life after Roy - Who's next?

With a few months to go until Roy's contract comes to an end, it's becoming increasingly likely that Roy will either not sign a new contract or won't be offered one.

I very much doubt he will be sacked before that, and rightly so given that lack of support he's had during his tenure, and especially this window.

Should either of those two occur, then once again we'll be in the market for a new manager.

The two questions are;

- Who do you think we should go for and why?

- Who do you think we will go for and why?

Same day cash withdrawals?

lundi 3 février 2020

I've just noticed withdrawals from online betting companies seem to be getting a lot quicker. Yesterday I withdrew cash from Bet365 which was credited to my bank account the same day. This morning, I just withdrew some cash from Betfair. The acknowledgement screen said:

Anyone else noticed withdrawals happening the same day? In the past, I had to wait between 1-3 days.

Rotational fouling

Rotational fouling must be stopped now – it’s institutionalised bullying

I am not sure which of the various epithets most adequately captures the phenomenon. Rotational fouling, perhaps? Take-it-in-turns fouling? Gyratory fouling? Whatever we call it, one thing is clear: football has to get on top of this scourge.

Wilfried Zaha has particular reason to have a gripe about this depressing problem. In Crystal Palace’s game against Sheffield United on Saturday, it was like that scene out of Airplane where the stewards line up one by one to give the panicking passenger a good, hard slap.

Sander Berge was the first to step on to the carousel, fouling Zaha in the third minute. A little later, George Baldock stepped up to the plate, fouling Zaha once more. He did so again in the 18th minute (pulling Zaha back, for which he received a yellow card) and in the 34th minute, with studs planted on his foot. By now you would have hoped that Andrew Madley, the referee, was cottoning on to Baldock’s serial offending, so United rotated.

A little before half-time, Chris Basham fouled Zaha, then in the 68th minute it was John Fleck, then in the 77th minute John Egan and in the 90th John Lundstram. The only surprise is that Zaha didn’t get a boot to the ankle from Chris Wilder, the United manager, as well as his kit man and assistant physio as he walked off at full time. Wasn’t that in the game plan too?

Some will say that it has always been thus. I remember a wizened Manchester United fan telling me that he had watched a game where George Best was fouled by all ten opposition outfield players over the course of 90 minutes, a doubtless apocryphal tale but one that captures something about the heritage of rotational fouling. It certainly isn’t a modern contrivance.

The difference today, though, is the level of premeditation, the way it is orchestrated with such Machiavellian precision. Troy Deeney, the Watford striker, let the cat out of the bag, perhaps unintentionally, when he said: “You take it in turns kicking Zaha. I know no one wants to hear that, but you go, ‘You hit this time, you hit him the next time.’ You don’t have the same player tackle him because you know you’re going to get booked.”

This interview, incidentally, was given in 2018 and barely raised a whimper, perhaps the most eloquent indication of how deeply rotational fouling has become entrenched within modern football. The pundits call it “professional”. They call it “clever”. It is, to my mind, none of these things. A more adequate term is cheating.

Zaha, for his part, is seething. It is clear that these tactics are not merely influencing the outcome of games, but endangering his physical longevity as a player. “I know that for a fact [opponents are out there to hurt me] but I just don’t know what to do any more,” Zaha said after a game last season. “I end up arguing with referees because today the guy studded me in my shin — do they need to break my leg before anyone gets a red card?”

I know that Zaha isn’t perfect, and his tendency to whine at referees has been widely condemned, but can you really blame him? It is like the victim of a weekly burglary complaining to an apathetic police force. On the past five occasions that a player has been fouled at least eight times in a single Premier League game, Zaha has been on the receiving end three times. These included matches against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United; on the latter occasion, he was fouled an extraordinary ten times.

This is why it is surely time for a new directive, providing referees with the retributive tools to get on top of this menace. Take Crystal Palace’s game against Watford in December, where players kicked Zaha for 90 minutes, a clear and obvious attempt to neutralise a talented player, but where the challenges were deployed outside the box (to avoid conceding a penalty) and where the rotational logic ensured that no single player risked a sending-off.

The solution isn’t difficult to glimpse. At present, an offender can be given a yellow card for cumulative fouling. That’s to say, there is a well-established norm that if a player commits three fouls, each one of which is below the threshold for a yellow, the aggregate effect can be sufficient for a caution to be given anyway. You often see referees pointing to the different places on the pitch that these cumulative offences were enacted as they brandish the card.

Isn’t it time to extend this logic to victims, too? The moment a single player is fouled twice in a game, the referee should significantly lower the threshold for subsequent fouls on that specific player. That would ensure that the next time an opposition player tried to bring him down, they would receive a yellow card, with the next offender receiving a red. This would end, or at least mitigate, individuals being repeatedly fouled throughout a game.

This isn’t just about Zaha, of course, but the many others who have been victimised, such as Adama Traoré, of Wolverhampton Wanderers, who was hacked down by three different Tottenham players over 15 second-half minutes in a Premier League match in December. Three yellow cards were shown for these offences (no red card, of course) and Spurs went on to win 2-1. The previous week, Brighton & Hove Albion offered the same “tactic”, with three different players booked for fouls on Traoré.

I could go on. For the point is that this form of institutionalised bullying has become endemic in the game, rarely commented upon, let alone condemned. This is not just an indictment of football, but its docile administrators. It is time for rotational fouling to end, once and for all.

Ayew should be the playmaker in midfiled

Anyone think that Ayew could do a really good job as the advanced midfielder behind Cenk Tosun, now that Andros Townsend is back.

It strikes me that given the lack of a creative midfielder, Ayew has all the attributes to cover this, since he seems to be one of the few players who can bring a ball down, hold off the attentions of various opposition defenders and midfielders and still find one of our players with a pass or drive forward into dangerous areas. To top that he has a bigger engine than Andros, being capable of virtually running all game, and is a tenacious harrier and tackler.

With Andros and Wilf on the wings going forward and supporting (and receiving support from) the full backs we have better balance, and hopefully Tosun will do the job he has been brought into do and that is score goals.

Luka and Macca should be more than capable of screening the defence whilst providing some forward momentum (especially Macca). And that leaves options of Kouyate, Riedewald Meyer and McCarthy to come on and do specific jobs as the game dictates.

In past seasons Roy has found a formation to get us scoring goals and I'm thinking using Ayew in this way could be the key...as long as Townsend is properly firing on the right wing

Any Advice Appreciated

dimanche 2 février 2020

Hi All,

I’m seeking a bit of advice.

I’m married to a lady aged 47. We have two daughter. The eldest is 17 and has a Severe Learning Disability and Complex Needs. Our younger daughter is 12.

My wife had a diagnosis of having Schizoaffective Disorder 8 years ago. Hospitalised for 2.5 weeks followed by 6 sessions of Family Work with the CMHT (to help me spot the signs and symptoms of a relapse).

My wife has relapsed 3 time since 2012. The most recent since December 2018. Expressing delusional and paranoid thoughts to myself. In recent weeks, she has become more and more reclusive, spending many hours in front of the television (believing she is receiving ‘messages’ from it). The worst thing you can do is to deny/confirm these beliefs but instead question them.

However, our marriage has grown increasingly bad, especially since early December 2019.

I’m not at the stage whereby I (and as I always have, I might add) place our children first. Our eldest attends a local Residential SEN school, term-time only, from Monday to Friday. She is home every weekend and every school holiday.

I also have to consider how this is affecting our younger daughter.

Our eldest has challenges with transition between home/school and I feel it best that she goes in 52 weeks. This weekend and last have been pretty challenging caring for her; as she has been physically attacking myself. Yet she is, in essence, 2:1 support and my wife (due to her condition) is keeping herself to the front room only. Watching the television.

I feel I have had to demonstrate a considerable amount of forbearance. The issues in our marriage are largely due to my wife’s mental health challenges.

It is all pretty tough to deal with (we only got the support with our eldest daughter due to my pursuing funding from the LA). My wife has mood swings, wild outbursts (twice with our daughters present in the last 12 months), disorganised thoughts, delusional/paranoid thoughts that she is unaware of and does not treat with medication. The tough part is that she refuses to admit to the reality of her own symptoms and diagnosis (when it seems very clear to myself).

She has verbally abused me many times. Told me that she no longer loves me. Told me that she hopes I die. Told me that she dislikes me. She over exaggerates, over things, and over interprets many things. It is like walking on egg shells.

She believes she is here to save humanity from dark beings. And believes this is achieved through messages from the television and radio.

I understand a fair bit about her condition. And I understand that many people with such a diagnosis lack self-insight/awareness and this is the reason why so many do not self-treat through medication/talking therapy.

However, I am simply at the stage whereby I need to consider our two daughters and myself.

I have asked for our eldest to go in 52 weeks, however, I have no legal status over her; other than being one of two primary carers to her for 13 years. I had to let the LA know this, but they are yet to seek my wife’s consent for her to go in 52 weeks.

I feel my youngest needs to leave with myself. Go and live local so that she has the stability of school and her friends. I would not stop her from seeing her Mum though.

I met with the LA on the 21/1/20 and the SS were concerned about possible emotional abuse. Due to my wife’s outbursts. They seemed to disbelieve me over her condition (despite it being historic) but now seem to be taking it more seriously together with her GP. They have referred her for a Social Care Assessment and a Blood Test to verify whether she is taking her medication.

I have to say, I am pretty disgusted by the SS as I approached them and the GP for help and support. It was all done in good faith and I have been honest and frank. Their response felt like a kick in the bollocks yet despite their concern over emotional abuse, they have still allowed our eldest to return home two weekends in a row and I have been left to care for her alone. All in all, a huge contradiction on their part.

What a mess!...a bloody stressful mess!....I have had many a sleepless night these last 7 weeks or so. I also have been unable to work these last 3 weeks while I safeguard the whole family. As a result, our finances have spiralled out of control.

I’m at the stage whereby I feel my youngest and I need to move out together.

Any thoughts?!?

Andy Gill, RIP

Very sad to hear that Andy Gill, guitarist with the Gang of Four, has died.

I have to say I always found the GoF's music a little too earnest compared with their jokey chums the Mekons, but I certainly appreciated Andy Gill as a guitarist.

Also knew him vaguely in my student days. He was one of the good guys.

Add a New Coach and some new ideas

All that is wrong with Roy’s approach evident today , stale turgid football , midfield players who pass back or sideways and can’t run .
Clueless set pieces , there must be more to us than shape and repetition .

We haven’t brought in enough players to fresh it up , but at least a new coach alongside Roy to add some new thinking might help.

Goal drought at home , 3 wins in 18 we could be dropping like a stone .

And given how quiet the crowd were today we know it . A relegation slump could be around the corner if we don’t buck up. Look at the aggression and passion shown by Sheffield Utd .

Ayew has looked a decent centre forward so let’s move him to accommodate Benteke . Shocking .

What's that tune?

"We are the boys from south east London, and well all follow you" - what tune is that sung too? It has been driving us mad trying to recall. Something from the 90s we reckon.

Where do we go from here?

Sorry for making another thread, but let’s get hypothetical and imagine that this is a game of Football Manager or FIFA:

If we wanted to change things up in a big way, how would we go about it? It’s all well and good saying “sell the club” “sack Hodgson” “get a new DoF in” but we all know there is a lot more to it than that.

I guess for me the ideal scenario would be the Yanks selling up, replaced by someone or a group willing to fund the stadium and academy development whilst investing in the team at the same time (already seems like a lot to ask).

From there we’d need to find a long term replacement for Roy. Whilst in hindsight it was a terrible decision, the only long term managerial appointment we’ve genuinely put research and planning into was FdB. Ideally you’d want someone under Roy for a season or too, and it looked like Steven Reid was that someone, however that turned out differently.

We’d then have to look at Freedman’s position, whatever that is. Someone with not only a vision for the types of player’s we’re after, but someone with a long term plan for the style of football we’ll be wanting to play, in cohesion with the Manager.

Then we’d need a huge squad overhaul, and that would need to be done over several transfer windows. We’d have to take a hit on not being able to sell a lot of the current, ageing squad but use them as mentors for younger, long term replacements.

Somewhere in that plan, I’d also like to see Teflon Phil get the boot and probably replace Scott Guyett (a man who is employed to keep players fit but can’t seem to do that one job).

So, is any part of this fairytale even possible, whilst at the same time trying to compete in the best league in the world?

A message to Steve parish and the yanks

I've been watching for nigh on 30 years, from all the great days of the early 90's, the administration years to today. I've never felt more distant from the club and the fans. This club is going one way. Down.

Player Ratings And Reviews: for the first time

For the first in a very long time (and I don't say this lightly) I am actually getting very frustrated watching Palace at home.

Why the fudge doesn't Roy set us up more aggressively at Selhurst Park?. I know the man has forgotten more about football strategy than I'll ever know but having just watched us against Sheffield Utd

I have to say we are as usual WAY too passive. What's the point in bringing Meyer on with ten mins to go?

It's no surprise that young up and coming, exciting players like Jarred Bowen don't want to come to a club with such static, stale methodology.

Just to be clear I'm not criticising Roy - He's done a miracle this season! > And I realise we have an overarching vision of stadium and club status upgrade - but I have to say that I'm beginning to become underwhelmed by the ethos we seem to be operating under at the moment.... IT'S UNINSPIRING FOOTBALL!

I just want my exciting to watch, counter attacking, skillful Palace back!
