Sorry for making another thread, but lets get hypothetical and imagine that this is a game of Football Manager or FIFA:
If we wanted to change things up in a big way, how would we go about it? Its all well and good saying sell the club sack Hodgson get a new DoF in but we all know there is a lot more to it than that.
I guess for me the ideal scenario would be the Yanks selling up, replaced by someone or a group willing to fund the stadium and academy development whilst investing in the team at the same time (already seems like a lot to ask).
From there wed need to find a long term replacement for Roy. Whilst in hindsight it was a terrible decision, the only long term managerial appointment weve genuinely put research and planning into was FdB. Ideally youd want someone under Roy for a season or too, and it looked like Steven Reid was that someone, however that turned out differently.
Wed then have to look at Freedmans position, whatever that is. Someone with not only a vision for the types of players were after, but someone with a long term plan for the style of football well be wanting to play, in cohesion with the Manager.
Then wed need a huge squad overhaul, and that would need to be done over several transfer windows. Wed have to take a hit on not being able to sell a lot of the current, ageing squad but use them as mentors for younger, long term replacements.
Somewhere in that plan, Id also like to see Teflon Phil get the boot and probably replace Scott Guyett (a man who is employed to keep players fit but cant seem to do that one job).
So, is any part of this fairytale even possible, whilst at the same time trying to compete in the best league in the world?
