Hi all
I wondered if I could seek any sort of advice from the BBS in relation to a family matter Im currently going though.
Basically, I have 2 stepchildren (boys aged 9 & 11) and Ive been with their mother for over 4 years and were engaged. My relationship with the boys has been really good up until recently when their father passed away unexpectedly over Christmas. As you can imagine, they have gone through a whole host of emotions and the period since then has been traumatic and stressful for them.
Where I need advice is at this point. The relationship I have with the boys is becoming very different. They are becoming distant to me, they disagree with most things I say and things become quite horrible and nasty (physically and verbally) as they deal with their emotions. Im not for one minute expecting anything any different from young children when they are dealing with grief and bereavement, especially when its one of their parents, but Im stuck as to what things I should do or say to try and support them.
Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
