With AWB sadly gone, I was wondering who is available in La Liga right now.
Mario Gaspar is a reliable right-back, and has spent his entire career at Villarreal, starting there as a child in Villarreal C and working his way up. Obviously, in that time Villarreal have enjoyed quite a bit of success, including European football.
His contract expires in 2023 but Villarreal have put him on the "TRANSFERIBLE" list (ie players they would be happy to sell at the right price). Because they're likely to cash in on him now.
Mario Gaspar went on record a couple of weeks ago to say he would love a challenge outside of Spain. (To view the link you have to Register or Login)
He's not a goalscorer, scoring just 10 goals in 266 matches with the first team, but that is because he stays in his position and is pretty reliable.
That said, he scored one of Spain's most beautiful goals in recent years against England in a friendly, which was nominated for a Ferenc Puskas award. You may remember it!
Villarreal fans adore him (they call him Supermario). You can see more of his goals here (including a cracker against Real Madrid), but don't forget he's not really about the goals...

That's a really low price for him I think. Barcelona were sniffing around him two years ago and were going to offer 15m for him in 2017 as they were going to sell Aleix Vidal to Sevilla but Mario Gaspar was committed to the Villarreal project, and in the end Barcelona realised decided to keep Aleix Vidal after Sergi Roberto became unavailable and so by the time he eventually did go to Sevilla, Mario Gaspar was no longer under their radar.
I would have thought that Palace could offer Villarreal a cheeky 12m (£10.75m) and see what happens. Right now I Villarreal are keen to sell and make some money, and as I said for once Gaspar is happy to move and has shown an interest in moving overseas.
He's not as good as AWB or as versatile, but he is total value for money and will be a loyal servant to Palace I am sure, as he's shown by being a one-club man all his life.
Hopefully someone at the club reads this BBS and might give him a butcher's.
