Of the now 30 players (including Sorloth) on First Team Page on club website

Dann, Puncheon, Schlupp and Wickham out for season
Ladapo, Kaikai and Williams out on loan
RLC back to Chelsea injured
Sako out for a few weeks

Ward, Sakho and Cabaye short term injuries

At least we got 3 of 5 targets including an international striker in form.

Imagine signing no one.

So let’s get behind the manager and team and pray no more major injuries.

CPFC, WHU and Burnley have major injury issues this season. We just have to keep fighting and our fans do our bit to help home and away.

Goodbye Martin Kelly.

We'll get relegated now and he'll be off to a big club.

Rumour: Yannis Salibur

From The Sun's transfer live page:

Crystal Palace and Brighton don’t like each other. We all know that.

And it looks like behind the scenes there might be a tussle or two today…

The Premier League duo have shown an interest in winger Yannis Salibur, writes Phil Cadden.

But they face a race against time to snap up the winger, who plays for Guingamp in France, before the transfer window closes.

Frenchman Salibur was the subject of an £8million bid from Hull last year.

London Stadium - what a waste of money

Not sure if there is a thread about this already but this was my first visit and I can easily say it is the worst stadium I have been to -

1) walk up to the stadium surrounded by their fans (took the Pudding exit on the DLR) and getting the usual abuse.

2) Had to queue up through security with the t***s, one pretending to set fire to my scarf, another thinking she had priority in the queue being a spam.

3) Toilets, half of the space inside which could have been used for urinals is just left empty. Massive queues, despite it being a new stadium. Made the Arthur Wait toilets looks bearable!

4) The 500 steps to get to your seats.

5) Watching the game in a different post code from the players!

6) Trying to use the big screens to help work out what was going on but then realizing it is ten seconds behind play!

7) Away fans split up by a massive gap between lower and upper

8) Half time no alcohol was served to away fans, this despite home fans having it sold to them

9) Having to walk back to the shopping centre the long way

10) The atmosphere or lack of it.

Only nice thing was when the steward told one boy to put his cigarette out and then told him that the only place he does not go to check is the toilets. Boy was not really getting the nudge, nudge, wink, wink though.

Would only go back if in the lower end. Would be happy enough that they went down to welcome in a better away day!

Rumour: Andy King

From the Mail's transfer live page:

Leicester are in talks with Swansea about a potential deal for Andy King.

Claude Puel has left the 29-year-old out of recent squads amid interest from a number of clubs including Brighton, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace.

King has become a cult figure at Leicester having won titles in League One, Championship, and Premier League, but his time at the club could be coming to a close.

Danny Welbeck

Aubemayang on his way to Arsenal. They also have Giroud and Lacazette. Time to move for Welbeck? Could play wide left, could play up front with Benteke, so our 2 problem positions. Works hard, scores some goals, Can cross. Roy Hodgson is a big fan.

Get it done.

Winter sun training camp

Are the club doing one this year? Looks like they could do with some re-energising if last night’s performance was anything to go by.

The 'London' Stadium

In the spirit of not bumping old threads...

Felt obliged to post this after probably the worst match experience I can recall. I just felt so detached... 50 thousand people in near proximity and they looked and felt like it was like it was empty. Never had such a soulless vibe at a football match.

It was so bad I almost feel sorry for the Hammers/Irons (whatever they call themselves) I honestly don't think I could watch Palace there week I week out.
Made me appreciate how special our stadium is.

Discussion: The Transfer Window. Is it a bonkers concept.

I'm old enough to remember the days before the transfer window. In those days, if you wanted a player, you just went out and bought one (Ollie's pint of milk analogy). This could happen at any time and was not limited to a three month period in the summer and one month in the winter.

The argument for the transfer window is that it allows a settled squad during the season, with an option for a tweak half way through. Generally players will not have their heads turned in the same way that they could if there was no window. Additionally it prevents distorted activity outside the window as the richer clubs can flex their muscles at will and it is the same rule for everyone.

Plus the powers that be get their entertainment and we get to be happy/disappointed/frustrated.

The argument against is that it does not legislate for issues within between the windows, particularly injuries, meaning squads can be left bare. This can mean bigger squads to cover this eventuality and the loan market as a consequence. In addition concentrating activity in time brackets can have an inflationary effect on prices and can make deals stupidly concentrated (as a has to happen before b and c within the time frame) so panic can set in. Comments such as performance in the transfer window could decide who gets relegated, moves us away from it being a pure football competition.

So. Is the transfer window fit for purpose or is it bonkers

Suggestion: Mitrovic

Why don't we tempt Newcastle with an offer for him !!!
Scores 1 in 3 for national team and before the move to Newcastle was scoring at a rate of more 1 every 2 games for Anderlecht , only 23 years old and he may just need a change of scenery to revitalise hes potential !!
Rather have him than all these mickey mouse strikers we've been linked with in the press.

Suggestion: Can we prioritise a winger please?

mardi 30 janvier 2018

We have a striker who scores goals if we cross the ball properly. We have only one winger in the squad who is a) fit and b) who can cross a ball. Squad is thin when it comes to strikers and goalkeepers, but can we prioritise someone who can whip a good ball in?

Discussion: Deadline Day Sweepstake Bingo Thing

Pick 5 names of players you think we might sign tomorrow. Any position. One point for any correct. Winner gets ITK of the year trophy and a tin of varnish left behind the bar at Selhurst Railway Club. 2nd prize: 2 tins.

2 Guaita
3 Amadou
4 Labord
5 Alcacer

Probably 0 points there but let's see.

Tax Return

Just endured that lovely experience that is the self-employed tax return.

Except this year there is a twist. As a self-employed writer you have your ups and downs. 2016-2017 was an 'up' year with good earnings followed by, you guessed it, a very 'down' period from summer 2017-present, in which certain normal writing gigs have dried up and I have also yet to be paid many thousands for completed projects. Naturally the money accrued in 2016-2017 has evaporated and I am basically now on my red-and-blue arse.

What's more, I can't even use my credit cards to pay my bill due to conflicts between HMRC and the government regarding credit card charge policies resulting in the option being withdrawn. So I basically have to find the money from nowhere while effectively unemployed.

Anyone got any advice?

(Please win today, Palace. I f*cking need it.)

Discussion: Missed Transfer Flops

With all of the transfer speculation going on at every transfer window and all of the players we have been linked with over the years, the fair majority of us have been excited at being linked with certain players and then disappointed when we don't sign that player.

It just made me wonder, how many of those players have turned out to be flops, and we should be grateful at having not signed those players.

One that sticks in my mind was Islam Slimani.

Trialist: Today

The teamsheet for the U23 match against Watford shows a trailist is playing.

Wonder if this is a young player with a view to joinging the other younger players or a first team option to bring in this week.

Neither of the new players are playing in the 23s today despite both being eligible i think so maybe in and around the 1st team picture.

BM Winter Olympics 2018 - Pyeongchang Special

dimanche 28 janvier 2018

It is that time of (every other) year when the Olympics come around and we gamble on them.

Previous Winners

2008 Beijing - pauldrulez
2012 London - Stigma
2014 Sochi - srs9jps
2016 Rio - Funk Butter :lux:

The rules are as follows:
  • Bets only allowed on Olympic events.
  • If you are interested, declare your In-ness by the Opening Ceremonies.
  • Each entrant will have 35 bets.
  • Of your 35 bets you will have 20 Bronze bets which will be the normal 10pts - 10 Silver bets which will be 15pts and 5 Gold bets which will be worth 20pts per bet. Please indicate when placing a bet what value it is by putting a B, S or G next to it.
  • The Ostapchuk Rule: If one of your bets is positively affected by a competitor getting a positive drug test, it must happen before the penultimate day of competition. This is to make sure everyone has a chance to counterbet.

In previous iterations of the competition, we've had each bettor name an event that everybody has to bet on and in Sochi we had a random event picked every day that everybody had to bet on. I'm happy to take suggestion on ways to spice up this comp.

Here's a good look at a calendar showing when events run and when medals are awarded: To view the link you have to Register or Login

NOTE:I have just moved around the world and my computer is in pieces in my suitcase. I'm not sure if I will have it up and running by the time the competition starts. I have a spreadsheet that handles all the calculations and standings that I can walk you thru, if need be.

Web Site Zoom In and Out - Windows vs Android (and iOS?)

Possibly a silly question...

When I view a web site, such as this one, on IE or Chrome on a Windows device I can zoom the text size by pressing CTRL and + (or - to zoom out). Doing that, the text sizes all increase but the frames around the page stay in place - so the page still fits the width of the screen but the text gets bigger. All good.

When I am on a pad or phone there does not appear to be an equivalent and if you use the reverse-pinch gesture to make the text bigger, it increases the width of the page and you lose a whole load of text off the sides of the screen in the process, so you end up scrolling the page left and right and up and down and all over the place.

Is there a way of increasing text size but maintaining the page proportions?

I should add that I am aware of the 'Accessibility' option in setup with the 'Text Scaling' slider on Android Chrome, however that just makes the post content larger but does not increase any of the other text on the page around it, making it very difficult to navigate around due to the widely differing font sizes displayed side by side.

Why can't they have an equivalent to the CTRL + and - zoom given that so many of us rely on pads and phones for our web browsing these days? Or perhaps they have and I've missed something obvious?

Rumour: Ashley Barnes

A report tonight that 29 year old striker Ashley Barnes could be a target. What with Ulloa and Barnes surely we can't go for two Weeds rejects. Whilst he has scored some important goals for Burnley, particularly against us, he has been merely a squad player this season and we need better.

Pubs for: West Ham

Where were the most popular places to drink last season?

Trying to work out our best option: St Paul's for the Central line to Stratford, or King's Cross St Pancras for the Victoria/Overground to Hackney Wick. The latter gives us the option to drink in King's Cross, Highbury & Islington and/or Hackney Wick.

What was Hackney Wick like last year? Full of West Ham?

What's the most embarrassing thing that's happened to you at work?

About 5 years ago I was teaching a class, dropped something , and much to the amusement of the kids, my trousers ripped at the arse as I bent over to pick the item up. It sounded like I was farting as my strides ripped. You can imagine the hilarity as 30 eight year olds creased up for the next half an hour.

Fortunately it was winter and I had my Echo and the Bunnymen style trench coat so I could cover up.

I got a couple of sewing kits and patches as presents from the kids at Xmas.

Suggestion: Davie Selke

Not one for suggestions but I’ve thought for a couple of years that he was the type of player we should be after.

He’s still only 23, he’s good in the air as well as being tall (6ft4), performing well in the Bundesliga.

Moved from RBL to Hertha in the summer for £7m or so, but Stoke and Newcastle are scouting him and sniffing around.

Ideal backup for now and long term could carry the load as a lone targetman or in a 442.

Doubt we’re interested though, as he’ll cost money :moo:

Clantenburg

From the BBC: "Former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg stopped a Saudi Arabia cup match apparently out of respect for the Muslim call to prayer - and has earned widespread praise from football fans in the country."
Can we look forward to matches being disrupted every five minutes to 'show respect' to some religious or ideological observance?

Humour: Fraizer Campbell

vendredi 26 janvier 2018

Given our current well-documented striker issues, the mind recalls Mr Parish's comments at the end of the last window, where Fraizer Campbell was praised to the rooftops and held up as the model striker who would have sorted us out, if only he stayed. Fraizer scored, ran around, had a great attitude and was also kind to small animals and children, according to SP.

Alas he had to move on. But what's stopping us now swooping for him?

Come back Fraizer and bang them in. You know it makes sense.

8 Years Ago Today - Palace Entered Administration

I was going to bump the original thread but then I didn't want to give anyone a heart attack who saw the thread title on the home page!

8 years ago today it was also announced on the BBS by “BobDay” that we would be entering administration. It’s mental how far we have come in those 8 years. He's working with the Imperial War Museum. They are great people and have helped me a lot with my research on how and when my grandfather was wounded and then died in a Berlin Hospital. If you ever go the the IWM, take time to ask the people there for help. They found a diary of the medic who was with my grandfather's Regiment. His recount of what went on was very revealing.

Tractor Beams - soon to be a reality?

If this was April 1st, I would not be believing or posting this...

The predictions of science fiction writers moved closer to reality after scientists unveiled a tractor beam that could pave the way for levitating humans. Engineers at the University of Bristol said they had tested the world’s most powerful acoustic tractor beam, which can invisibly ensnare and levitate objects.

Itunes transfer to new PC

I'm not that tekkie so maybe some of this won't add up but here goes ....

I have on my PC what I believe is a non Apple itunes library. It looks the same as theirs but was a D/L from another site. It's offline and is accessible on my desktop only so there is no back up (!!) except from the master list of D/L's within the computer.

It works fine, no issues but I now want to transfer it to another PC?

Help and suggestions welcome please as I do not want to risk losing the music.

Thanks.

RIP Simon Tweedie

Good evening,

Last Saturday during the Burnley game I tragically lost my brother-in-law/best friend/fellow season ticket holder to a sudden heart attack.

As a family we are numb with shock and really struggling. I normally mourn in private but we agreed as Simon was such a huge Palace fan we would put something in the program for the Newcastle match.

However, as tributes have been flooding in, we have been overwhelmed by the sheer quantity and out-pouring of sincere support. Friends have posted on Facebook and Twitter to the point where it has been suggested the crowd applaud on the 36th minute (Simon's age). This has gained traction to the point it is appearing on all the Palace sites:

Even Steve Parish has retweeted on Twitter:

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Even the Newcastle fans pages have picked up on the idea and have agreed to show their support. I thought it would be remiss of me now not to raise awareness on here.

Simon was a fantastic guy. This is taken from the crowd funding page his work set up for him:

It is often said that some people touch our lives briefly while others leave a lasting impression and are never forgotten. Simon Tweedie was one of those people.

It’s hard to forget someone who gave us all so much to remember. The special memories that we have of Simon will always bring a smile to our faces.

His funny moments, his quirky mannerisms and his laughter!
There will not be a Crystal Palace match that you will watch and not remember Simon. There won’t be a time when you have a Diet Coke (with vodka) and not remember Simon. There won’t be a time when you watch a Star Wars, James Bond or Harry Potter movie and not remember Simon.
He meant so much to us all.

Simon – your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.

In honour of Simon we would like to start a collection for his family. Anyone can donate to this JustGiving page. Please pass the link along.

Thank you for your continued support.

If you could honour him in the 36th minute next Sunday it would mean the world to us at this difficult time.

Thank you.

Rob

Brighton to complain about cruelty of Premier League?

Sources connected to Brighton have said they expect the club to make a formal complaint about the "cruelty" of the Premier League.

"It is disgraceful how some clubs seem to beat us and have better players than us. We don't get as many opportunities to score as in the Championship either, defenders, midfielders and strikers are all so much better too. After having to suffer the injustices of the Play Off system and our efforts to get the rules changed, we finally make it up to join the elite and they treat us like this".

The same source also revealed their anger at discovering that some Brighton fans are not really Brighton fans at all. "The young supporter who asked for Eden Hazard's shirt has just heaped more shame on us after another humiliating defeat. It was bad enough a few years back when that kid wearing Brighton kit had a Liverpool bag but this is on another level entirely. We will also now consider discontinuing sales of half and half scarves to stamp out this kind of thing".

The unknown source added that the club will be monitoring eBay for sales of Eden Hazard shirts.

Suggested Team and Formation For: West Ham (away)

----------------------------Hennessey----------------------------
TFM------------Tomkins---------------Sakho----------------PVA
Townsend-----Milivojevic(c)---------Riedewald------------Sako
-----------------Benteke----------------Zaha--------------------

Zaha has been off-key on the right. So play him in the position he was excelling in over the past 15 games or so: left side forward. Sako used to be a left winger and can swing in a good ball. Zaha and Sako can switch throughout the game.

Cabaye has suspected twisted ankle ligaments, McArthur at fault for two goals. So let's give next season's midfield replacement a decent chance to cement his place. Riedewald has done very well, can tackle and pass. And at least the set-pieces won't be looped over towards the first man/keeper/penalty spot where there's no danger. Milivojevic can whip a good ball in.

British Gas Homecare

Just had the renewal come through on my British Gas homecare. Now on the web site the most expensive cover (homecare 4) is advertised at £20.50 per month. My renewal has just come through at £511.30 which works out at £42.58 per month and I am being told that this is because the prices on the website are for new customers only. Am I alone in thinking this is outrageous, over twice the price of what's on the website? Just been in touch with BG and they are going to look at the prices and give me a call back in 48 hours. Sorry bit of a rant, but anybody thinking of taking out a BG homecare policy please note that your subsequent years will take a flying leap in price.

I must admit that something in the back of my mind says that this is not allowed but I may be wrong there.

"Liverpool footballer Jon Flanagan has been sentenced to 40 hours of unpaid work and a community order for assaulting his girlfriend.

The 25-year-old defender pleaded guilty to common assault by beating of Rachael Wall at an earlier hearing.

Liverpool Magistrates' Court heard he "slammed" his partner against the wall and kicked her "while she was on the floor" in Liverpool on 22 December."

Kicking anyone when they are on the floor is the act of a coward. To do it to your girlfriend... boils my blood. Liverpool should sack him. They obviously won't. He deserves to get dog's abuse everytime and everywhere he plays from now on

If VAR existed in the past...

...what Palace moments may have turned out differently?

Now bare in mind it can only be used for goals, penalties, straight red cards and mistaken identity.

I’ll start with this:

1990 FA Cup Final Replay.

1st half 0-0. Thomas is scythed down by Brian McClair a yard inside the penalty box. The referee deems the contact outside the box and gives us a free kick. VAR would’ve awarded us a penalty and that cup may well have been ours and history very different for Man U and Fergie.

Out of interest; I wonder who would’ve taken the penalty? Andy Gray? Thomas had missed one in the Liverpool 9-0 in September that season so doubt he would’ve. Can’t remember another penalty we got that season.

Any plasterers available to advise

Builder/Handymen Recommendations

Dear fountain of knowledge that is the BBS,

I'm looking at doing a few home improvements to my mothers house:

- converting our garage into an en-suite downstairs bedroom
- knocking a wall through
- repainting all internal walls
- adding a handrail on the stairs

Was wondering if anyone on here had recommendations of reputable (preferably South London based) people or companies that could do the work?

Thanks in advance!

Restaurant recommendation

This is for a friend of a friend. Can i get a recommendation for a post Palace match restaurant. They were going to go to Speroni's in Croydon but it is apparently closed. They are looking for something similar to Speroni's in terms of location, food and price.

Suggestion: Kenedy

mardi 16 janvier 2018

With Newcastle looking at getting Souare on loan (and now apparently looking at Joel Ward too), also with Schlupp injured for a few months yet, maybe we should consider a bid / loan for Brazilian Chelsea Left Back Kenedy (Robert Kenedy Nunes do Nascimento).

He can also play Left Wing, scoring once in 3 EFL Cup matches this season.

Needs match time, but obviously we already have RLC on loan from them, so if one of them could be made permanent he would be a good long term option at LB.

Doing well for QPR by all accounts - bit like the job Jules was doing for us circa 2009/10.

Said he doesn't want to move because he's appreciated and getting game time, but I'd have thought it's worth a punt.

Suggestion: Martin Terrier

With our interest in Celtic's Moussa Dembélé going (dubiously) public, and with Everton & BFS predictably sniffing around him, maybe we should at least go for his France U21s strike partner Martin Terrier. He can play upfront as a Striker and as a Left Winger.

On loan to Strasbourg from Lille and scored as many goals (7) in 5 less U21 international games than Dembele, he'd be a fair whack cheaper. If nothing else we can make sure Everton pay full whack for him after pinching Tosun from under our nose or warn them off pursuing any more of our targets.

Palace Defence 2017-18

Having had a bit of a laugh on here after Saturday re Martin Kelly usually being involved in our best defence, I thought i'd look into it a little bit further. Proper virgin behaviour I know, but I work in accounts & like a spreadsheet - so have input every defensive partnership since the start of 2017, result, points per game & goals conceded. The results are quite interesting - I've attached for you to all see for yourself (if you actually give a f*ck) - some of the partnerships over the past 12 months almost gave me a panic attack.

The results are skewed as in it doesn't take into account the strength of the opposition but not much can be done about that. Also, I've used the partnership who played the duration of the game - for example, Dann went off after 25 mins vs Man City - so I've listed the partnership in that game as Tomkins & Dann.

Our best partnership, being Sakho & Tomkins is pretty incredible - 2 goals conceded in 6 games & 16 points gathered. Kelly is part of the 2nd best defence however...:hi:

Suggestion: Mignolet

Mignolet might be available from Liverpool as he is said to be considering his future as its a world cup year.

Who do we want to be?

With all the talk of the new stadium and Steve Parish rightly stating we are perhaps only a third of the club we should be, I got to thinking that it wouldn't take much in the mega bucks Premier League for us to snowball into a huge club. Less than what some might think.

Firstly, it would only take a nudge of improvement in the squad ( and a decent start to a season ) for us to be a top eight side. That certainly isn't impossible.

If we attained that, given our massive and untapped potential, I believe we would become a prime target for investment or takeover. We would be relatively cheap and with the southern half of the world's premier city our domain.

If we improve even ten percent in terms of performance and stature in the next few years, I believe someone will try to make us a Chelsea or Man City. And before anyone scoffs, were those clubs tearing up the top division in the last thirty years before truckloads of foreign cash arrived?

Within five years we really might find ourselves brought out, hyper-invested and buying up world class players.

That means the wonderment of chasing titles, playing in Europe, forgetting any prospect of relegation, a superb stadium and wearing the shirt / badge with pride as the O.G. fans we are...

...and newly minted, glory hunters. Tourists. Talented but utterly mercenary and greedy footballers and, worst of all, probably a newly acquired sense of arrogance and entitlement within us.

Assuming the hypothetical above, could we avoid becoming what we currently hate? Are we spirited or special enough to avoid the pitfalls of joining the arrogant, football superclubs? Is it a price we are willing to pay to taste a moment of glory in our history? Or do we want to stay as we are?

How to Find Someone

Hi guys, this is a long shot but I've tried everything else I can think of and have had to resort to asking here for suggestions.

Bit of background knowledge:

I have a friend who goes by the name of Kenneth Pritchard, he is an old work colleague of mine aged 53, born in Paddington but grew up in Llanddaniel in Anglesey, divorced with two kids.

After I left the place we were working I let him stay around mine for a week before he left the UK to move to Belfast to be a coach driver. A month and a half later he left this coach company to move to another coach company (whose name I didn't enquire) in the Republic, he told me he was to be located "very close to Kilkenny".

Everything seemed fine, he even sent me what he said was his new Irish phone number and said he was looking forward to me paying him a visit once he was settled there. Long story short, within a couple of days neither his old nor his new number worked, old number says "the phone is switched off", second number says it's an incorrect number.

After no communication for several weeks, I contacted his old manager from the company he was working for previously. He knew even less than I did, saying he left abruptly and he hasn't heard from him since.

Does anyone here have any idea how to trace someone in a situation like this? All I've got to go on is that he's probably working for a coach company that most likely services Kilkenny.

Much thanks guys.

Paris

Mrs. BHIG and myself are returning to Blighty for a family party in May and it will give me the opportunity to take her to the Colosseum for the first time for our game against West Brom. As part of the deal for putting up with my dysfunctional family, I have agreed to take her to Paris for a couple of days.

While I got to spend various times in rural France, I only had one occasion to visit Paris when I was not just passing through. Thanks to my lifestyle at the time and the intervening 25+ years, I have little memory of this.

In short, I am looking for tips of where to stay for a couple of nights for maximum tourist value, meaning easily accessible to the sights that one would want to see on what may be a one and only trip to the city, together with any ideas of must see stuff that I should put on the itinerary.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions, both facetious and otherwise.

Suggestion: Jack Rodwell

Just saw the Sky headline Sunderland have ripped up Rodwell's contract. I know he's another sicknote but surely worth a punt on a free? Talented and versatile, if he could stay fit he's be a steal.

Sunderland's explosion

Good chance of going down twice

And if you think Mutch was a waste of money read this on Jack Rodwell

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Last summer the club’s entire transfer budget amounted to just £1.25m - Rodwell has earned more than that in wages for his 159 minutes of first-team football this season.

And

A £10m fee, wages of £70,000 per week, a five-year contract - and for what? A injury-plagued player who has managed less than 45 league starts in three-and-a-half seasons, 76 appearances in all, and who, for me, has impressed in none of them.

Taking fee and salary into account, that is £299,000 per appearance. Or, if you prefer, more than £4,700 per minute he has spent on the pitch in first-team action.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Arsenal (home)

---------------------Hennessey----------------------------
TFM---------Kelly----------------Tomkins------------PVA
-------McArthur-----Milivojevic-----Riedewald-----------
---------Sako---------------------------Zaha-------------
-----------------------Benteke----------------------------

Slight change of formation for this one (4-3-2-1), with Sako wide right and Zaha wide left, as there should be space for them to exploit on the counter. Keep it tight in the middle of the park and we can nick it.

Cabaye on the bench (if only to stop him taking the corners).

Edit: I meant Arsenal (away). Hopefully mods can sort :p

Non plastic Britain

For many of us on here when we were growing up we didn't really have many things that came in plastic, milk was in glass bottles as was most soft drinks, veg was loose and your mum either had a shopping trolley or a bag. Nowadays everything seems to be in plastic and now the government wants it all phased out. The bottom line is we as consumers are going to pay of it , glass is massively more expensive that plastic and of course its great that we are trying to save the oceans but what about the rest of the world are they on board with this?

French Speakers

Just had a thought that at the moment Sakho, Benteke, Cabaye, Souaré, Sako and Zaha all speak French. Although Zaha has admitted he is not as fluent as he used to be, but I remeber reading him saying that he has to be careful now when talking to Benteke around RH as RH also knows some French. The point I am making is that I rarely find myself thinking about the everyday life of the players - in training, outside of work as friends, banter etc. and think that it must be so much more comfortable to join a club where there are many team meates that also speak your native language. I know all the non-native English speakers have a great level of Engish, and this is obviously the main language everyone speaks when at work, but how much does something like this help the decision making when thinking of moving to Palace? Think of Babacar for example, a Senegalese international having played in Italy looking to possibly sign for an English club for the first time. If he was split between joining two equal PL teams for the same money, surely the small detail such as there will be many team mates speaking your native language could seal the deal.

Just a thought but a worthy discussion and interesting if nothing else.

How much can language influence the players we sign?

French ref, Tony Chapron, is accidently tripped up by a Nantes player, falls over and then kicks out at the player who tripped him up! He then gets up and gives the Nantes player a red card! Absolutely crazy!

What have the current government done for us?

Wrong place! What a dimlow.

Last red card?

Pretty sure we haven't had a red card this season, and we definitely didn't have any last season. When WAS our last red card???

What is the song called before palace games involving palace and arsenal

I think it may be Doc Brown or Tinie Tempah

Season Tickets 2018-19

Bought mine in March last year to get the best price and to ensure same seat. Have always done the debit card to avoid credit card fees. So two questions. Will the pricing structure remain the same or will we add something on to reflect the increased fees as most will plump for CC rather than DC if no difference in price. When will they be announced as felt slightly delayed last year because of the stewardship of Pardew towards the championship. That will not happen with Roy

Doucoure's 'hand of God'.

The whole punditry made a tremendous row about simulation to deceive the ref.
The Doucoure con was the worst yet.
Where are the demands for a six-game ban ?
If the FA ignores this one, they are bringing the game into disrepute !

Non league paper reckons we are in for the 23 year old whitehawk striker, they signed him from the Swiss leagues and he has 4 in 4 so far

Anyone else watch these videos?
I find them fascinating. But not in a good way.
And that's all I have to say about that.

Discussion: Has wide player become more important than striker?

So Burnley couldn't handle Benteke and Sako up top. We created a hatful of chances against the leagues 4th best defence. Zaha by his standards was quiet and McArthur on the other side was never going to be the most creative.

With all that would we be better with an additional attacking force out wide, especially with Townsend out, than an extra striker if Wickham is due back in a few weeks?

Wren Kitchens - Any good?

I have put a deposit down for a new kitchen with Wren but have since seen a lot of very negative reviews.

Has anyone on here bought a Wren Kitchen? What do you think of them?

SSN reporting this via Sunday Mirror. N’Diaye went to Galatasaray last summer.

Crystal Palace and Watford are both contemplating a move for Senegal international Papa Badou Ndiaye, with the 27-year-old Galatasaray midfielder believed to have an £8m release clause. That's according to the Sunday Mirror.

Advertising Boards

I only really noticed in the 2nd half looking towards the Whitehorse from the Holmesdale that the new advertising boards are far too bright.

They shouldn’t be flashing bright and different colours repeatedly throughout the game, it made it incredibly difficult to see the ball in the opposite penalty area when it was on the floor.

Hopefully the Club can try and do something to rectify this, because you shouldn’t be losing sight of the ball because of a flashing red and white sign followed by a bright green advert and then another multitude of colours etc.

Rumour: Crouch

samedi 13 janvier 2018

Been working as a promoter for my mate in clubs up town. Get a few celebs from time time. Anyway was chatting to some Irish twins who reckoned they used to be on X factor. Can't remember their names, as not into that rubbish and had a few grey goose vodkas in the vip area. Anyway they were big on the football chat and said they heard crouchy was looking to move back to London and Palace was most likely destination.

Makes sense with our need for striker. Reckon this ones a goer.

Can someone help me with the name of the track the latest Palace chant. I know some of the fanbase don't like it but it does have a Palace connection as I'm sure the team used to come out to it (either before or after Glad all over) a few years ago.

Message to Londoner

The gutless pr*ck won't post tonight, but as he was virtually the only Brighton fan giving the 'biggun' after their reserves beat ours on Monday, i thought I would remind him of the following

YOUR LOT HAVE JUST LOST TO A TEAM WHO LAST WON IN AUGUST !!!!

England have just been thrashed in the Ashes - When West Brom last won (before today), we were still playing the Windies in this Country.
And as added bonus, you are now below us in the table:lux::lux:
And in the words, you once used about us
I HOPE IT HURTS, BLOODY WELL HURTS.

Good news and bad news!

The good news is......that for once I will SO enjoy going into work on Monday morning, given that I work in Accrington and the majority of my colleagues are Burnley fans who have been giving me grief all week about how many goals they will thrash us by :lux:

The bad news is.....my Burnley supporting wife has told me I DEFINITELY 'ain't getting any tonight, or possibly for the rest of the season' :(

Still, its been worth it.....COYP :lux:

Suggestion: Federico Fernandez

Federico Fernández

Not picked by Swansea today - bit of pace - which we lack in central defence and only 28 . Swansea fans thinking maybe he will be sold ?

Wilf injured?

Not trying to panic anyone but just worried he was carrying an injury today. Particularly in the 2nd half he seemed uncharacteristically reluctant to run, as if he were protecting an injury, and after he was clobbered half way up the touchline he was noticeably limping though that doesn't necessarily mean much.

Anyone else have a view or any info on this?

The south-coast clubs

All three heading south.

Of course, Brighton going down is our most preferable.

Bored of playing Southampton, to be honest.

Bad news for away fans if they all go down, or even two of them as they could be replaced by more trips up north or further away.

Where would away fans like to go next season? Looking likely that the choice will be Wolves, Derby, Cardiff or Fulham?

Player Ratings And Reviews: Burnley (H)

No FF today? I’ll add a poll.

Amazing run

Well done boys great run we are on.

Forgetting the start we had, I think where we are in the table at this point of the season is a position most of us would have hoped at the start of the season.

And most of us Wouldn't have expected a run like we are on, so in theory, we have cancelled that start out which is a testament to the player's mental strength.

Enjoy the weekend EAGLES

Suggestion: Troy Deeney

Can’t believe this isn’t an option I have seen anywhere. I saw that Silva was open to offers for him. He is a solid option with a proven track record in the PL. far more certain than these other relative unknowns. And when you think about it he’s a London lad, come good playing football, issues in his past but made good. Time to bring him in!

Schlupp to have operation...

Attacking Style Clusters

I have to admit that I don't fully understand this, but Simon Gleave (head of Analysis at Infrostrada Sports) has submitted what he describes as an 'attacking style cluster' chart, which analyses the type of attacking style adopted by PL teams. I reproduce it here in case it means anything more to any of you - who may find it interesting!

He says:

Palace now attack like Manchester United according to this piece of analysis (Near Shots means Close range or high quality opportunities). Palace have also moved from the group containing Watford/Leicester/Stoke since Hodgson took over:

He explains:

It is an attempt to classify the Premier League clubs into different groups in terms of the style of their attacking play. Apparently Palace attack in a similar way to Southampton and Manchester United. Looking at those groups you could probably call them something like:

- Short passing teams playing centrally without set piece strength (Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool)
- Short passing teams playing centrally with strength at set pieces (Man City, Arsenal)
- Balanced attack creating primarily close range shots and utilising crossing (Palace, Man Utd, Southampton)
- Long passing teams who also play out wide (Huddersfield, Brighton, Swansea, West Brom, West Ham)
- Medium long passing teams who also play out wide (Newcastle, Bournemouth, Watford, Leicester, Stoke)
- Long ball merchants (Burnley, Everton
)

Is Zaha the best player outside the top 6?

I have written a (fairly long) blog post looking at whether the numbers support mine and many others beliefs that Wilf is the best player outside the top six Premier League clubs.

Pretty number heavy but hopefully you will enjoy. He has certainly taken a big step forward this season, even though he hasn't quite scored the goals/ got the assists he has deserved yet.

Enjoy!

Carillon Private Rail ,NHS contracts under threat of being handed back to taxpayer

What a mess and another example of how the government ends out bailing out loss making contracts awarded to private companies to the tune of millions .

To view the link you have to Register or Login

The shadow business secretary, Rebecca Long-Bailey, said: “The collapse of Carillion could provoke a serious crisis. It would have major implications for the outsourced government contracts the company holds, as well as the firm’s thousands of workers, those in the supply chain and those who rely on Carillion’s pension fund.

“The government, who, despite warnings carried on with its programme of outsourcing public services to this company, must stand ready to bring these contracts back into public control, stabilise the situation and safeguard our public services.”

Cool electric gadgets and devices.

Now Christmas has passed. Has anyone bought or received any new electrical gadgets they can recommend?

Love a gadget or something that makes life easier (or lazy). Over the last 6 months or so I’ve invested (or been given as gifts) in a few things that I can recommend.

- Fire Tv - magnificent piece of kit to stream live football (coupled with Sports donkey subs.

- ‘Ring’ video door bell and chime. Excellent way of keeping an eye on who’s at and approaching your door along with 2 way talk facility using an app.

- Aero garden harvest elite (cool new way of growing herbs/salads indoor 12 months of the year....and I’m not even green fingered.

- Amazon Echo and Dot (with WiFi plugs).

Always on the look out for more if anyone can recommend something?

Suggestion: Javier Hernandez

From The Mirror - "West Ham ready to offload £17million flop Javier Hernandez - less than six months after London Stadium switch"

No history of injuries and a proven goal scorer. Strikes me as the sort of striker who would do well alongside Benteke.

Perhaps at something less that £17m with add ons.

Suggestion: Fyodor Smolov

Looks as if West Ham have to sell Sakho and Chicharito to fund this signing.

If we are looking to sign Sakho for around £10 million and he has personal and injury problems galore, why not look at this guy.

Top scorer in Russian league for two out of last three seasons (18 goals last season), fluent in English and available for £15 million (seems a snip compared to Niasse and Sakho)

A shocked jury at Maidstone Crown Court heard the sadist rang the mother of one victim, aged 25, just minutes after an attack.

The beast gloated: “You know your daughter? The blonde one? I’ve just s****ed her. You’ll hear about it later.”

When the horrified mother begged to speak to her daughter, who had been bound by her hands and ankles, Imiela replied: “She’s a bit tied up at the moment.” Other victims were taunted by Imiela during their ordeals as he ordered them: “Tell me you love me.” One was told: “You don’t have to worry — I’m wearing a condom.

“XXXXX (name of player) discussion” threads

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it annoying that General Palace discussion is now regularly headed by blandly titled threads such as “Wilfried Zaha discussion”

I am sure, in the past there would have been separately titled threads on whatever the specific discussion was focussed on, eg “Did Wilf dive in the game against Stoke?” and all the discussion specifically related to that debate would be on that thread.

By just having these endless threads about whatever they have done each game (with the threads rolling on for weeks and months), it could be argued that it is not much different to ‘bumping old threads’

I know that when something massive happens, (eg Roy became our new manager) you could get numerous multiple ‘Roy’ threads about lots of slightly different things he might do.

However, all these threads with just the player name and ‘discussion’ don’t tempt you in to read and debate the latest topic.

Obviously I can’t stop people tagging on their latest thoughts on Wayne Hennessey’s form onto the long running thread about him, but I just think people might like to start a new thread once in a while if there is enough of a fresh topic being raised?
