This was mainly a therapeutic exercise for me this morning to distract me from the talent in Arsenal's forward line. There have been oodles of posts re why we lost form and injuries to key players. I thought having done it - the info might be of interest at least.
No shocking insights to share - more that it is what most have commented and Pardew has referenced a big hit on our midfield/attack.
This is the data
I should explain what it is I guess:
I was trying to find a way to visualise the impact on the first choice team. Obviously its impossible to agree on what that is but I have stuck to what is our most common shape 4 at the back, 5 across the middle and 1 up front but supported from the middle. Then I plumped for what I thought was probably AP's first choice team on average.
So the 'first choice' are those players inside the black lined box. You can obviously look at the data in any way you want - so pick your own. it's just an exercise.
The numbers in each cell should be obvious enough - it's their shirt number.
It shows what we know. Regular keeper and defence but a lot of players missing in midfield and attack. Overall the 'first choice players have missed 22% of the matches but if you look at the front 6 that is 35.7% (Care this is a chat with numbers not a theorem proof and this is true but matching against a single striker could be misleading - so just look at the data).
The worst period coincided with the Bournemouth, Swansea, Watford, WBA, Sunderland and Liverpool games from which we got just 2 points and we would have hoped for far more than that in that key spell.
Other than the simplistic 'first choice' approach it makes no attempt to gauge quality. So there you go
Main thing is I am suitably distracted and ready for the Leicester match. Bad news is that some very good family friends rang to say they are dropping in en route for a cuppa .......around about 4:30....... Good job they really are good friends as they will probably get ignored until the fina l whistle but should understand.
